Abstract:Objective: This paper explores the relationship between alcohol consumption and psychological health outcome in an economically underdeveloped area of China. Methods: We conducted convenience sampling and recruited 439 participants at alcohol-related risk as identified by Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test. Well-being and mental health were the primary outcomes. We employed multiple regression analysis to determine the correlation between alcohol consumption and health outcome. Results: Participants with higher scores for alcohol dependence were more likely to obtain higher scores for stress (0.11 [95% CI: 0.03, 0.19]), anxiety (0.15 [95% CI: 0.07, 0.23]) and depression (0.11 [95% CI: 0.03, 0.19]). Similarly, increasing scores for harmful alcohol use items were associated with higher scores for anxiety (0.08 [95% CI: 0.01,0.16]) and stress (0.08 [95% CI: 0.01,0.15]) and lower scores for positiveness (0.07 [95% CI: –0.14, –0.01]). Participants with stable incomes and the ethnic minority reported more favorable psychological outcomes or fewer negative emotions. Conversely, individuals who drank passively were more prone to experiencing lower positive and higher negative psychological effects. Conclusions: Higher scores on measures of alcohol dependence and harmful alcohol use indicate elevated psychological risks. Abstract:Introduction: The EFPA Questionnaire on Test Attitudes of Psychologists (EQTAP) is periodically employed to gather the opinions of European psychologists. A decade after the prior study, Poland and other EFPA member states participated in a follow-up investigation. This paper presents the results of the 2020 Polish edition of the survey involving 650 psychologists. It also provides a comparison with the findings from the 2009 EQTAP survey. Methods: Using exploratory factor analysis, we delved into the EQTAP questionnaire's psychometric properties to evaluate the suitability of its thematic scales. Additionally, we undertook a detailed analysis, both at the single-item and scale level. Results: The results suggest a five-scale solution, which is consistent with other international studies (Evers et al., 2012, 2017). Reliability coefficients for the questionnaire scales range between 0.40 and 0.87, strongly correlating with scale length. Conclusion: The article concludes with a discussion of the Polish psychological testing culture, which has remained relatively unchanged from 2009 to 2020, signaling a stabilization (despite changes in the behavioral patterns in the testing context related to technology). Abstract: This paper examines the predictive power of risk propensity as a personality tendency over emigration attitudes among young Bulgarians regarding their generational belonging and differences. Although the correlation between risk propensity and migration attitudes has been studied in some countries, to date, it has neither been examined in Bulgaria – an Eastern European economy in transition – nor scrutinized in the light of generational differences. As part of a national survey (N = 1,200) carried out in September-October 2021, young Bulgarians aged 18–35 years – Zoomers (N = 444) and Millennials (N = 756), we measured risk propensity both as a general tendency and as individual responses to different risk domains, using a revision of Jackson's Risk-Taking Scale (1994). We studied the emigration attitudes using an original 5-item Attitudes Toward Emigration Scale. The findings suggest that risk propensity, mostly in the social risk domain, is a powerful predictor of emigration attitudes among young Bulgarians, even more powerful for Millennials than Zoomers. The higher risk propensity is associated with more positive attitudes toward emigration. The findings have important interdisciplinary implications for psychological theory and demographic policy.
