A generalization of the problem of writing on dirty paper is considered in which one transmitter sends a common message to multiple receivers. Each receiver experiences on its link an additive interference (in addition to the additive noise), which is known noncausally to the transmitter but not to any of the receivers. Applications range from wireless multiple-antenna multicasting to robust dirty paper coding. We develop results for memoryless channels in Gaussian and binary special cases. In most cases, we observe that the availability of side information at the transmitter increases capacity relative to systems without such side information, and that the lack of side information at the receivers decreases capacity relative to systems with such side information. For the noiseless binary case, we establish the capacity when there are two receivers. When there are many receivers, we show that the transmitter side information provides a vanishingly small benefit. When the interference is large and independent across the users, we show that time sharing is optimal. For the Gaussian case, we present a coding scheme and establish its optimality in the high signal-to-interference-plus-noise limit when there are two receivers. When the interference power is large and independent across all the receivers, we show that time-sharing is again optimal. Connections to the problem of robust dirty paper coding are also discussed. Costa's celebrated "writing on dirty paper" (WDP) shows that the power-constrained channel Y = X + S + Z, with Gaussian Z, has the same capacity as the standard AWGN channel Y = X + Z, provided that the "interference" S (no matter how strong it is) is known at the transmitter. While this ability for perfect interference cancelation is very appealing, it relies heavily on the Gaussianity of the (unknown) noise Z. We construct an example of "bad" noise for writing on dirty paper, namely, "difference set noise". If the interference S is strong, then difference-set noise limits the WDP capacity to at most 2 bits. At the same time, like in the AWGN case, the zero-interference capacity grows without bound with the input constraint. Thus almost 100% of the available capacity is lost in WDP in the presence of difference-set noise. This high capacity loss is due to the "entropy amplification property" (EAP) of noise with an aperiodic probability distribution. We derive the capacity region of the two-user dirty-paper Gaussian multiaccess channel (MAC) with conferencing encoders. In this MAC, prior to each transmission block, the transmitters can hold a conference in which they can communicate with each other over error-free bit pipes of given capacities. The received signal suffers not only from additive Gaussian noise but also from additive interference, which is known noncausally to the transmitters but not to the receiver. The additive interference is modeled as Gaussian or uniform over a sphere. We show that the interference can be perfectly mitigated, i.e., that the capacity region without interference can also be achieved in its presence. This holds irrespective of whether the transmitters learn the interference before or after the conference. It follows as a corollary that also for the MAC with degraded message sets, the interference can be perfectly mitigated if it is known noncausally to the transmitters. To derive our results, we generalize Costa's single-user writing-on-dirty-paper achievability result to channels with dependent interference and not-necessarily Gaussian noise. We compare the capacity of dirty-paper coding (DPC) to that of time-division multiple access (TDMA) for a multiple-antenna (multiple- input multiple-output (MIMO)) Gaussian broadcast channel (BC). We find that the sum-rate capacity (achievable using DPC) of the multiple-antenna BC Is at most min(M, K) times the largest single-user capacity (i.e., the TDMA sum-rate) in the system, where M is the number of transmit antennas and K is the number of receivers. This result is Independent of the number of receive antennas and the channel gain matrix, and is valid at all signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). We investigate the tightness of this bound In a time-varying channel (assuming perfect channel knowledge at receivers and transmitters) where the channel experiences uncorrelated Rayleigh fading and In some situations we find that the dirty paper gain is upper-bounded by the ratio of transmit-to-receive antennas. Consider several source nodes communicating across a wireless network to a destination node with the help of several layers of relay nodes. Recent work by Avestimehr has approximated the capacity of this network up to an additive gap. The communication scheme achieving this capacity approximation is based on compress-and-forward, resulting in noise accumulation as the messages traverse the network. As a consequence, the approximation gap increases linearly with the network depth. This paper develops a computation alignment strategy that can approach the capacity of a class of layered, time-varying wireless relay networks up to an approximation gap that is independent of the network depth. This strategy is based on the compute-and-forward framework, which enables relays to decode deterministic functions of the transmitted messages. Alone, compute-and-forward is insufficient to approach the capacity as it incurs a penalty for approximating the wireless channel with complex-valued coefficients by a channel with integer coefficients. Here, this penalty is circumvented by carefully matching channel realizations across time slots to create integer-valued effective channels that are well suited to compute-and-forward. Recovery of the sparsity pattern (or support) of an unknown sparse vector from a small number of noisy linear measurements is an important problem in compressed sensing. In this paper, the high-dimensional setting is considered. It is shown that if the measurement rate and per-sample signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are finite constants independent of the length of the vector, then the optimal sparsity pattern estimate will have a constant fraction of errors. Lower bounds on the measurement rate needed to attain a desired fraction of errors are given in terms of the SNR and various key parameters of the unknown vector. The tightness of the bounds in a scaling sense, as a function of the SNR and the fraction of errors, is established by comparison with existing achievable bounds. In this article, an algorithm is introduced which not only focuses on enhancing low light images but also denoises images to produce more visually pleasing outputs. It is observed that various methods ignore noise during enhancement processes. This causes, enhancement of noise which leads to significant information lost. The paper projected a novel framework for low light images that performs enhancement and denoising jointly. The proposed paper uses $L_{2}$ - $L_{P}$ image decomposition to obtain reflectance and illumination concurrently. The illumination layer is corrected using the proposed weighting distribution and generates enhanced output. Further to this, noise suppressed bilateral filter is employed here for denoising process and gamma function is applied in subsequent step for additional contrast improvement. In this paper, our goal is first to investigate the behavior of reassignment operators used in synchrosqueezing transforms applied to multicomponent signals made of the superposition of amplitude and frequency modulated modes. Indeed, while these operators are associated with instantaneous frequency estimators very accurate on specific types of modes, the quality of the former worsens drastically when the modes depart from the ideal case they are designed for. We show in this paper that this particularly true when the modes interfere in the time-frequency plane or when some noise is present. Based on that analysis, we propose a novel instantaneous frequency estimator that only makes use of some specific points located on the ridges of synchrosqueezing transforms, and compare its performance with state-of-the-art techniques based on the same type of time-frequency representations. Data in real world are usually characterized in multiple views, including different types of features or different modalities. Multi-view learning has been popular in the past decades and achieved significant improvements. In this paper, we investigate three challenging problems in the field of incomplete multi-view representation learning, namely, i) how to reduce the influences produced by missing views in multi-view dataset, ii) how to learn a consistent and informative representation among different views and iii) how to alleviate the impacts of the inherent noise in multi-view data caused by high-dimensional features or varied quality for different data points. To address these challenges, we integrate these three tasks into a problem and propose a novel framework termed Noise-aware Incomplete Multi-view Learning Networks (NIM-Nets). NIM-Nets fully utilize incomplete data from different views to produce a multi-view shared representation which is consistent, informative and robust to noise. We model the inherent noise in data by defining the distribution $\Gamma $ and assuming that each observation in the incomplete dataset is sampled from the distribution $\Gamma $. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to unify learning the consistent and informative representation, alleviating the impacts of noise in data and handling the view-missing patterns in multi-view learning into a framework. We also first give a definition of robustness and completeness for incomplete multi-view representation learning. Based on NIM-Nets, we present joint optimization models for classification and clustering, respectively. Extensive experiments on different datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method over the existing work based on classification and clustering tasks in terms of different metrics. Depth maps acquired with ToF cameras have a limited accuracy due to the high noise level and to the multi-path interference. Deep networks can be used for refining ToF depth, but their training requires real world acquisitions with ground truth, which is complex and expensive to collect. A possible workaround is to train networks on synthetic data, but the domain shift between the real and synthetic data reduces the performances. In this paper, we propose three approaches to perform unsupervised domain adaptation of a depth denoising network from synthetic to real data. These approaches are respectively acting at the input, at the feature and at the output level of the network. The first approach uses domain translation networks to transform labeled synthetic ToF data into a representation closer to real data, that is then used to train the denoiser. The second approach tries to align the network internal features related to synthetic and real data. The third approach uses an adversarial loss, implemented with a discriminator trained to recognize the ground truth statistic, to train the denoiser on unlabeled real data. It is well known that for high voltage transmission lines in the range of 245 kV–525 kV, particularly in regions of high ground resistivity, lightning back flashover problems could be a major concern. Line arresters have been used successfully to address the problem. Underbuilt ground wires have been proposed as a viable alternative. The present paper shows that the full potential of additional ground wires could be achieved by optimizing their position on the tower. Such optimization often results in a preferred position at the level, or higher than the attachment height of the lower phase conductors; therefore the designation Embedded Ground Conductor. An essential requirement is that such positioning does not infringe in any way on the dielectric integrity of the electrical clearances and, under the influence of induced charge, does not become a source of positive streamers that may lead to additional radio or audible noise. It is found that a streamer- inhibited conductor, when properly placed, fully satisfies the above requirements. Metal coating of Fused Silica (FS) Micro-machined Hemispherical Resonator Gyroscopes (micro-HRGs) is necessary to allow for capacitive actuation and detection of motion. Metallization provides electrical conductivity, but reduces the quality factor of resonators. Both effects contribute to sensitivity and noise characteristics of the sensor. In this paper, we considered the metal coating material and thickness, linking the design and fabrication parameters to the gyroscope’s noise performance. We designed and fabricated FS Dual-Shell Gyroscopes (DSGs), a version of micro-HRG, and used it as a test vehicle to study the trade-offs between metallization, quality factor, conductivity, and noise characteristics. Acoustic noise modeling, analysis, and reduction are critical in the design of switched reluctance machines for noise-sensitive applications. Although the analytical method can provide a fast simulation of the acoustic noise, it is generally less accurate compared to the numerical method. In order to improve the simulation accuracy, a novel analytical method is presented in this paper. The proposed method considers the excitation of the high-axial-order vibration modes to simulate the vibration behavior and the acoustic noise in the three-dimensional (3D) domain. Methods of obtaining the input data for the 3D analytical simulations are presented. The acoustic noise results obtained from the numerical simulations and experiments from an 8/6 switched reluctance motor drive are used to validate the analytical method presented in this paper. Enhancing the visibility in extreme low-light environments is a challenging task. Under nearly lightless condition, existing image denoising methods could easily break down due to significantly low SNR. In this paper, we systematically study the noise statistics in the imaging pipeline of CMOS photosensors, and formulate a comprehensive noise model that can accurately characterize the real noise structures. Our novel model considers the noise sources caused by digital camera electronics which are largely overlooked by existing methods yet have significant influence on raw measurement in the dark. It provides a way to decouple the intricate noise structure into different statistical distributions with physical interpretations. Moreover, our noise model can be used to synthesize realistic training data for learning-based low-light denoising algorithms. In this regard, although promising results have been shown recently with deep convolutional neural networks, the success heavily depends on abundant noisy-clean image pairs for training, which are tremendously difficult to obtain in practice. Generalizing their trained models to images from new devices is also problematic. Extensive experiments on multiple low-light denoising datasets – including a newly collected one in this work covering various devices – show that a deep neural network trained with our proposed noise formation model can reach surprisingly-high accuracy. This article studies the zero-error feedback capacity of causal discrete channels with memory. First, by extending the classical zero-error feedback capacity concept, a new notion of uniform zero-error feedback capacity $C_{0f} $ for such channels is introduced. Using this notion a tight condition for bounded stabilization of unstable noisy linear systems via causal channels is obtained, assuming no channel state information at either end of the channel. Furthermore, the zero-error feedback capacity of a class of additive noise channels is investigated. It is known that for a discrete channel with correlated additive noise, the ordinary capacity with or without feedback is equal $\log q-\mathcal {H}_{ch} $ , where $\mathcal {H}_{ch} $ is the entropy rate of the noise process and $q $ is the input alphabet size. In this paper, for a class of finite-state additive noise channels (FSANCs), it is shown that the zero-error feedback capacity is either zero or $C_{0f} =\log q -h_{ch} $ , where $h_{ch} $ is the topological entropy of the noise process. A condition is given to determine when the zero-error capacity with or without feedback is zero. This, in conjunction with the stabilization result, leads to a “Small-Entropy Theorem”, stating that stabilization over FSANCs can be achieved if the sum of the topological entropies of the linear system and the channel is smaller than $\log q$. In this paper, we propose a reference-free artificial noise (AN) waveform design and cancellation scheme for single-input-single-output (SISO) wireless secure transmission. First, a system structure with the aid of AN is presented, where we provide a specific method extracting the sign information of each symbol from the desired signal (DS) to form AN at the transmitter. Then, we notice that the legitimate receiver enable to reconstruct the AN from the received signal by almost the same method as the transmitter without AN reference, which reduces the system complexity in practice. Subsequently, the AN cancellation performance and the secrecy capacity at the receiver are analyzed, and their upper bounds are also derived. Finally, simulation results confirm that the proposed reference-free AN design and cancellation scheme can effectively suppress the AN at legitimate receiver, while degrades the signal to noise ratio (SNR) at eavesdropper seriously, which provides impressive secure performance in terms of secrecy capacity. This paper studies the influence of cogging torque and unbalanced radial magnetic forces on vibrations and acoustic noise properties in concentric magnetic gears. The study involves three physical demonstrators, each with unique properties that make them interesting study cases. The first magnetic gear have pronounced cogging torque due to the pole and segment combination. In the second magnetic gear very low cogging torque is obtained by choosing an odd number of segments, but at the expense of unbalanced radial magnetic forces. The fact that these two magnetic gears are designed to identical specifications and into the same system makes this study unique, as this yields a direct and very clear comparison of the influence of cogging torque and unbalance radial forces. The third gear is designed with a pole and segment combination that has a good balance between minimizing cogging torque and avoiding unbalanced radial forces. Acoustic and vibrational signatures are presented and the characteristics are discussed in each case. It is shown that both cogging torque and unbalanced radial forces in concentric magnetic gears dominate both acoustic and vibrational properties and it is shown how it makes the magnetic gears very sensitive to the eigenfrequencies of the system. Even though cogging torque and unbalanced radial forces are dominant, it is also shown how other excitation mechanisms such as eccentricity, segment passing frequency and pole passing frequency are clearly visible in the acoustic and vibrational signatures. To further mitigate the BER error floor of $M$ -ary differential chaos shift keying (MDCSK) modulation for impulsive noise, a low-cost high-reliability coded modulation scheme without equalizations is desirable for impulsive noise. In this paper, a protograph-based low-density parity-check coded MDCSK-based bit-interleaved coded modulation (MDCSK-BICM) scheme is proposed for the scenario with impulsive noise obeying Bernoulli-Laplace distribution. Considering the Gaussian distribution of protograph extrinsic information transfer (PEXIT) and the benchmark of coding design, the U-shaped non-coherent capacity is derived with optimal code rate for square MDCSK, showing that the code rates are stable with $E_b/N_0$ increasing but still much lower than that of DS-16DQAM at code rate $>\!0.145$. The derived joint probability density function can be considered as approximately a Gaussian distribution, which is used to improve the impulsive noise fitted PEXIT. Finally, a new code under a novel principle is designed for better bit error rate performance based on the improved PEXIT analysis. Both PEXIT analysis and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme achieves a better BER than that with a traditional scheme, and suggesting a research approach based on simple methods. The paper proposes a multiple-input multiple-output-based power line communication (PLC) system subject to Rayleigh fading and corrupted by additive cyclostationary Gaussian noise. The proposed coherent receiver structure employs a block reception rule at the reception unit for detecting the space-time block-coded transmitted data symbols. A closed-form expression for the pairwise error probability (PEP) is derived using a characteristic function approach. Exact and asymptotic expressions for the average PEP are obtained for the special case of Alamouti code transmission which show that the PLC system under consideration offers full diversity. Numerical results depict the improvement in the system performance with increase in the number of receive diversity branches and the average signal-to-noise ratio per branch and decrease in the correlation value between the noise samples. Image noise removal is a common problem with many proposed solutions. The current standard is set by learning-based approaches, however these are not appropriate in all scenarios, perhaps due to lack of training data or the need for predictability in novel circumstances. The bitonic filter is a non-learning-based filter for removing noise from signals, with a mathematical morphology (ranking) framework in which the signal is postulated to be locally bitonic (having only one minimum or maximum) over some domain of finite extent. A novel version of this filter is developed in this paper, with a domain that is locally-adaptive to the signal, and other adjustments to allow application to real image sensor noise. These lead to significant improvements in noise reduction performance at no cost to processing times. The new bitonic filter performs better than the block-matching 3D filter for high levels of additive white Gaussian noise. It also surpasses this and other more recent non-learning-based filters for two public data sets containing real image noise at various levels. This is despite an additional adjustment to the block-matching filter, which leads to significantly better performance than has previously been cited on these data sets. The new bitonic filter has a signal-to-noise ratio 2.4dB lower than the best learning-based techniques when they are optimally trained. However, the performance gap is closed completely when these techniques are trained on data sets not directly related to the benchmark data. This demonstrates what can be achieved with a predictable, explainable, entirely local technique, which makes no assumptions of repeating patterns either within an image or across images, and hence creates residual images which are well behaved even in very high noise. Low-light imaging on mobile devices is typically challenging due to insufficient incident light coming through the relatively small aperture, resulting in low image quality. Most of the previous works on low-light imaging focus either only on a single task such as illumination adjustment, color enhancement, or noise removal; or on a joint illumination adjustment and denoising task that heavily relies on short-long exposure image pairs from specific camera models. These approaches are less practical and generalizable in real-world settings where camera-specific joint enhancement and restoration is required. In this paper, we propose a low-light imaging framework that performs joint illumination adjustment, color enhancement, and denoising to tackle this problem. Considering the difficulty in model-specific data collection and the ultra-high definition of the captured images, we design two branches: a coefficient estimation branch and a joint operation branch. The coefficient estimation branch works in a low-resolution space and predicts the coefficients for enhancement via bilateral learning, whereas the joint operation branch works in a full-resolution space and progressively performs joint enhancement and denoising. In contrast to existing methods, our framework does not need to recollect massive data when adapted to another camera model, which significantly reduces the efforts required to fine-tune our approach for practical usage. A lightweight blind image denoiser, called blind compact denoising network (BCDNet), is proposed in this paper to achieve excellent trade-offs between performance and network complexity. With only 330K parameters, the proposed BCDNet is composed of the compact denoising network (CDNet) and the guidance network (GNet). From a noisy image, GNet extracts a guidance feature, which encodes the severity of the noise. Then, using the guidance feature, CDNet filters the image adaptively according to the severity to remove the noise effectively. Moreover, by reducing the number of parameters without compromising the performance, CDNet achieves denoising not only effectively but also efficiently. Experimental results show that the proposed BCDNet yields state-of-the-art or competitive denoising performances on various datasets while requiring significantly fewer parameters. This paper addresses semi-supervised semantic segmentation by exploiting a small set of images with pixel-level annotations (strong supervisions) and a large set of images with only image-level annotations (weak supervisions). Most existing approaches aim to generate accurate pixel-level labels from weak supervisions. However, we observe that those generated labels still inevitably contain noisy labels. Motivated by this observation, we present a novel perspective and formulate this task as a problem of learning with pixel-level label noise. Existing noisy label methods, nevertheless, mainly aim at image-level tasks, which can not capture the relationship between neighboring labels in one image. Therefore, we propose a graph-based label noise detection and correction framework to deal with pixel-level noisy labels. In particular, for the generated pixel-level noisy labels from weak supervisions by Class Activation Map (CAM), we train a clean segmentation model with strong supervisions to detect the clean labels from these noisy labels according to the cross-entropy loss. Then, we adopt a superpixel-based graph to represent the relations of spatial adjacency and semantic similarity between pixels in one image. Finally we correct the noisy labels using a Graph Attention Network (GAT) supervised by detected clean labels. We comprehensively conduct experiments on PASCAL VOC 2012, PASCAL-Context, MS-COCO and Cityscapes datasets. The experimental results show that our proposed semi-supervised method achieves the state-of-the-art performances and even outperforms the fully-supervised models on PASCAL VOC 2012 and MS-COCO datasets in some cases. Volume Projection Imaging from ultrasound data is a promising technique to visualize spine features and diagnose Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis. In this paper, we present a novel multi-task framework to reduce the scan noise in volume projection images and to segment different spine features simultaneously, which provides an appealing alternative for intelligent scoliosis assessment in clinical applications. Our proposed framework consists of two streams: i) A noise removal stream based on generative adversarial networks, which aims to achieve effective scan noise removal in a weakly-supervised manner, i.e., without paired noisy-clean samples for learning; ii) A spine segmentation stream, which aims to predict accurate bone masks. To establish the interaction between these two tasks, we propose a selective feature-sharing strategy to transfer only the beneficial features, while filtering out the useless or harmful information. We evaluate our proposed framework on both scan noise removal and spine segmentation tasks. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method achieves promising performance on both tasks, which provides an appealing approach to facilitating clinical diagnosis. Deep neural networks are known to be data-driven and label noise can have a marked impact on model performance. Recent studies have shown great robustness to classic image recognition even under a high noisy rate. In medical applications, learning from datasets with label noise is more challenging since medical imaging datasets tend to have instance-dependent noise (IDN) and suffer from high observer variability. In this paper, we systematically discuss the two common types of label noise in medical images - disagreement label noise from inconsistency expert opinions and single-target label noise from biased aggregation of individual annotations. We then propose an uncertainty estimation-based framework to handle these two label noise amid the medical image classification task. We design a dual-uncertainty estimation approach to measure the disagreement label noise and single-target label noise via improved Direct Uncertainty Prediction and Monte-Carlo-Dropout. A boosting-based curriculum training procedure is later introduced for robust learning. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method by conducting extensive experiments on three different diseases with synthesized and real-world label noise: skin lesions, prostate cancer, and retinal diseases. We also release a large re-engineered database that consists of annotations from more than ten ophthalmologists with an unbiased golden standard dataset for evaluation and benchmarking. In this paper, we consider a scenario where a source node wishes to broadcast two confidential messages for two respective receivers via a Gaussian multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channel. An eavesdropper also receives the transmitted signal via another MIMO channel. We first consider the discrete memoryless channel and obtain the capacity region of the degraded channel. The secret dirty paper coding (SDPC) region as an achievable rate region for the general discrete channel is introduced. Relying on the results for the discrete channel, we fully characterize the secrecy capacity region of MIMO broadcast channel. It is shown that the SDPC scheme is optimal. The converse part of the proof relies on the generalized Costa's entropy power inequality and a new channel enhancement strategy in which we only need to enhance the channels of the legitimate receivers, and the channel of the eavesdropper remains unchanged. In this paper, we show how the absorption and re-radiation energy from molecules in the air can influence the Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) performance in high-frequency bands, e.g., millimeter wave (mmWave) and terahertz. In more detail, some common atmosphere molecules, such as oxygen and water, can absorb and re-radiate energy in their natural resonance frequencies, such as 60 GHz, 180 GHz and 320 GHz. Hence, when hit by electromagnetic waves, molecules will get excited and absorb energy, which leads to an extra path loss and is known as molecular attenuation. Meanwhile, the absorbed energy will be re-radiated towards a random direction with a random phase. These re-radiated waves also interfere with the signal transmission. Although, the molecular re-radiation was mostly considered as noise in literature, recent works show that it is correlated to the main signal and can be viewed as a composition of multiple delayed or scattered signals. Such a phenomenon can provide non-line-of-sight (NLoS) paths in an environment that lacks scatterers, which increases spatial multiplexing and thus greatly enhances the performance of MIMO systems. Therefore in this paper, we explore the scattering model and noise models of molecular re-radiation to characterize the channel transfer function of the NLoS channels created by atmosphere molecules. Our simulation results show that the re-radiation can increase MIMO capacity up to 3 folds in mmWave and 6 folds in terahertz for a set of realistic transmit power, distance, and antenna numbers. We also show that in the high SNR, the re-radiation makes the open-loop precoding viable, which is an alternative to beamforming to avoid beam alignment sensitivity in high mobility applications. Filter capacitors are among the most serious noise sources in HVDC converter stations, and there are still no satisfactory noise reduction measures. This paper proposes the use of the mass tuning (MT) method to adjust the vibration frequency response characteristics and to realize vibration control and noise reduction. First, the theoretical model of the MT structure is developed based on continuum mechanics. Based on the theoretical model, it is revealed that inserting an MT component into the capacitor element package will cause a decrease in the resonant frequencies and antiresonant frequencies. Furthermore, the movement degree of the resonant frequencies increases as the position of the MT component becomes closer to the package end, while the movement degree of the antiresonant frequency is the largest when the MT component is located in the middle of the package model. The vibrations and the noise levels of an example MT capacitor are then compared with the results of an original capacitor. The comparison results show that the MT scheme designed in this paper can achieve a noise reduction effect of 12–15 dB(A). The proposed reduction method is proven to be both effective and efficient. Recent information-theoretic results show the optimality of dirty-paper coding (DPC) in achieving the full capacity region of the Gaussian multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channel (BC). This paper presents a DPC based code design for BCs. We consider the case in which there is an individual rate/signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) constraint for each user. For a fixed transmitter power, we choose the linear transmit precoding matrix such that the SINRs at users are uniformly maximized, thus ensuring the best bit-error rate performance. We start with Cover's simplest two-user Gaussian BC and present a coding scheme that operates 1.44 dB from the boundary of the capacity region at the rate of one bit per real sample (b/s) for each user. We then extend the coding strategy to a two-user MIMO Gaussian BC with two transmit antennas at the base-station and develop the first limit-approaching code design using nested turbo codes for DPC. At the rate of 1 b/s for each user, our design operates 1.48 dB from the capacity region boundary. We also consider the performance of our scheme over a slow fading BC. For two transmit antennas, simulation results indicate a performance loss of only 1.4 dB, 1.64 dB and 1.99 dB from the theoretical limit in terms of the total transmission power for the two, three and four user case, respectively. Robust spectral analysis of the sinusoidal signals corrupted by impulsive noise poses a big challenge in the signal processing community. In this paper, we address the issue of robust spectral analysis for multi-channel sinusoidal signals, including order detection and parameter estimation. The successive robust low-rank decomposition is firstly designed to extract the common signal subspace from the multi-channel data matrix. Subsequently, the number of sinusoidal poles is determined with a model order selection criterion, based on the so-obtained subspace. With the signal order information, the sinusoidal parameters and outliers are jointly estimated according to the maximum a posteriori criterion. To find a robust initial guess of the sinusoidal parameters, an estimator based on robust weighted linear prediction is developed. Additionally, the performance analysis is provided, which includes computational complexity, convergence verification of the sinusoidal parameter estimation, and asymptotic consistency of the signal order detection. Stego-images are often contaminated by interchannel noise or active noise attack when communicating on the Web. And it is challenging to restore embedded image from corrupted stego-image. This paper studies a kNN-bit approximation algorithm to remove noises in embedded image. The proposed algorithm distinguishes reliable bits from extracted bits, and estimates pixel values by keeping reliable bits unchanged and correcting unreliable bits. Specifically, the 8th (highest) unreliable bit of a pixel can be approximated with its nearest neighbor pixels. And then, if an unreliable bit locates at any one of the $5^{th}\sim 7^{th}$ 5 t h ∼ 7 t h bits of a pixel, it is adjusted with two nearest neighbors of the pixel, where the pixel is in-between these two nearest neighbors. Finally, for other unreliable bits, each one is approximated by the maximum and minimum possible values of nearest neighbors of its pixel. We conduct experiments for illustrating the efficiency, and demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can recover the embedded images with good visual quality from corrupted stego-images. The problem of sensor fault estimation has been studied for Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) systems in networked environment. Assuming that the process noise is related to the measurement noise and packet loss will occur during the measurement transmission. We use an event-trigger mechanism (ETM) to save communication resources. Accordingly, an observer is proposed to estimate the state and sensor fault, and the trigger threshold is associated with the correlation coefficient. By adjusting the threshold, the observer performance and energy consumption can be balanced in an ideal situation. The observer designed in this paper reduces the effects of correlation noises effectively and good handling network packet losses, and it has been proved that the expected covariance of the estimation error is bounded. Identification of communication parameters, a major task of intelligent receivers, has important applications in intelligent systems, especially cognitive radio systems. Multiple antennas make the identification problem more challenging. In this paper, we focus on the problem of detecting the number of transmit antennas in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) cognitive radio systems. A novel identification algorithm is proposed to determine the number of transmit antennas for MIMO systems in the presence of alpha-stable noise. We first introduce the correlation matrix based on the fractional lower order statistics (FLOS) and provide a particular structure of FLOS-based correlation matrix. Then, the eigenvalues of the FLOS-based correlation matrix are employed to construct a test statistic and the central limit theorem is exploited to obtain the decision threshold. Finally, the transmit-antenna number is detected using a serial binary hypothesis test. Simulation results are demonstrated to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed transmit-antenna number detection algorithm for MIMO systems in the presence of alpha-stable noise. To protect military broadcasting against both hostile interference and eavesdropping, an artificial noise (AN) sheltered frequency hopping (FH) broadcasting (ANS-FHB) architecture is proposed in this paper, and the secrecy capacity is employed to measure its secrecy performance. Besides, considering the inevitable frequency mismatch after synchronization will degrade system secrecy in practical applications, the optimal transmitting power allocation (PA) for the confidential information (CI) and AN is provided to maximize secrecy capacity in presence of frequency mismatch. Moreover, to be adapted to various application scenarios, the proposed optimal PA scheme is further simplified according to the frequency synchronization ability and relative channel quality. The analysis and simulations show that the proposed ANS-FHB system can achieve a non-negative secrecy rate even when existing multiple eavesdroppers. This paper makes the case that Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) is an exceptionally attractive technology to respond to the increasing demand in propulsion applications for high-efficiency, high-performance, and low-cost motors with a more secure supply chain. The paper also presents methods to effectively reduce torque ripple and acoustic noise, which have been the major issues impeding the widespread use of SRMs. Finally, SRM designs for two propulsion motors, one for an e-bike and the other for a hybrid electric vehicle application, are presented which have been proposed to replace permanent magnet machines. In this paper, the traditional model based variational methods and deep learning based algorithms are naturally integrated to address mixed noise removal, specially for Gaussian mixture noise and Gaussian-impulse noise removal problem. To be different from single type noise (e.g. Gaussian) removal, it is a challenge problem to accurately discriminate noise types and levels for each pixel. We propose a variational method to iteratively estimate the noise parameters, and then the algorithm can automatically classify the noise according to the different statistical parameters. The proposed variational problem can be separated into regularization, synthesis, parameters estimation and noise classification four steps with the operator splitting scheme. Each step is related to an optimization subproblem. To enforce the regularization, the deep learning method is employed to learn the natural images prior. Compared with some model based regularizations, the CNN regularizer can significantly improve the quality of the restored images. Compared with some learning based methods, the synthesis step can produce better reconstructions by analyzing the types and levels of the recognized noise. In our method, the convolution neutral network (CNN) can be regarded as an operator which associated to a variational functional. From this viewpoint, the proposed method can be extended to many image reconstruction and inverse problems. This paper considers estimation of a random variable in Poisson noise with signal scaling coefficient and dark current as explicit parameters of the noise model. Specifically, the paper focuses on properties of the conditional mean estimator as a function of the scaling coefficient, the dark current parameter, the distribution of the input random variable and channel realizations. With respect to the scaling coefficient and the dark current, several identities in terms of derivatives are established. For example, it is shown that the gradient of the conditional mean estimator with respect to the scaling coefficient and dark current parameter is proportional to the conditional variance. Moreover, a score function is proposed and a Tweedie-like formula for the conditional expectation is recovered. With respect to the distribution, several regularity conditions are shown. For instance, it is shown that the conditional mean estimator uniquely determines the input distribution. Moreover, it is shown that if the conditional expectation is close to a linear function in terms of mean squared error, then the input distribution is approximately gamma in the Lévy distance. Furthermore, sufficient and necessary conditions for linearity are found. Partial discharge (PD) detection is a fundamental tool for the design and diagnosis of insulation systems, particularly organic materials that must operate throughout their life without PD. While the methods for PD measurements under sinusoidal supply voltage are well-established, the same does not hold under repetitive-pulse voltage waveforms, such as those provided by inverters. Electromagnetic noise generated by electronic switch commutation in inverters can overlap with PD pulses, making it difficult to measure, separate from noise, and identify PD. This is particularly more cumbersome when fast rise-time switches are employed. To address these issues, this paper investigates methods to detect PD pulses on enameled wires under repetitive impulsive voltages with different rise times of 60, 500, and 1000 ns, proposing techniques which allow separation of PD from noise even when they overlap in time and frequency domains. This paper employs a time-domain approach using standard deviation curve acquired from a set of measurements to discriminate PD from repetitive commutation disturbance. These techniques can be implemented to achieve unsupervised noise rejection, which would be an important goal for both offline and online PD testing. Machine learning has been widely used in medical image analysis under an assumption that the training and test data are under the same feature distributions. However, medical images from difference devices or the same device with different parameter settings are often contaminated with different amount and types of noises, which violate the above assumption. Therefore, the models trained using data from one device or setting often fail to work for that from another. Moreover, it is very expensive and tedious to label data and re-train models for all different devices or settings. To overcome this noise adaptation issue, it is necessary to leverage on the models trained with data from one device or setting for new data. In this paper, we reformulate this noise adaptation task as an image-to-image translation task such that the noise patterns from the test data are modified to be similar to those from the training data while the contents of the data are unchanged. In this paper, we propose a novel Noise Adaptation Generative Adversarial Network (NAGAN), which contains a generator and two discriminators. The generator aims to map the data from source domain to target domain. Among the two discriminators, one discriminator enforces the generated images to have the same noise patterns as those from the target domain, and the second discriminator enforces the content to be preserved in the generated images. We apply the proposed NAGAN on both optical coherence tomography (OCT) images and ultrasound images. Results show that the method is able to translate the noise style. In addition, we also evaluate our proposed method with segmentation task in OCT and classification task in ultrasound. In the field of ultrasonic array imaging for non-destructive testing (NDT), material structural noise caused by grain scattering is one of the main sources of error when characterizing defects that are found in the polycrystalline materials. The existence of grains can also severely affect the detection performance of ultrasonic testing, making small defects indistinguishable from the grain indications due to ultrasonic attenuation and backscatter. This paper proposes a model in which the statistical distribution of the defect data is obtained from different realizations of the grain structure. This statistical distribution, termed the defect+grains model in this paper, is shown to contain information that is needed for detection and characterization of defects. Hence, given a specific measurement configuration, the characterization result can be obtained by constructing a defect+grains model based on the multiple realizations of each possible defect and calculating their probability. The detection, classification, and sizing accuracy are shown to be predictable by quantifying the probabilities that an experimentally measured defect matches the different defect+grains models. This defect+grains modeling approach gives insight into the detection/characterization problem, leading to an evaluation of the fundamental limits of the achievable inspection performance. In this corresponence paper, we address the spectrum sensing problem under the non-Gaussian noise scenario characterized by the symmetric alpha stable ($\text{S}\alpha \text{S}$) model. In this paper, a novel spectrum sensing method is proposed using the maximum generalized correntropy, aimed at improving the spectrum sensing performance in low generalized signal-to-noise ratio conditions. To further enhance the robustness of the proposed method, multiple receive antennas are applied to carry out cooperative spectrum sensing. Besides, a modified conjugate gradient algorithm is used to optimize the sparse vector for cooperative spectrum sensing. This correspondence paper studies how correlation of the wiretap channel affects the secrecy rate of the artificial noise (AN) scheme. To this end, we first develop a simple but tight lower bound on the ergodic secrecy rate of the AN scheme on correlated multiple-input single-output wiretap channels. Then, utilizing the derived bound, we investigate the influence of correlation on the secrecy rate, which explicitly manifests how the channel correlation affects the optimal power allocation. Ultimately, this paper answers two fundamental questions: when is the AN signal beneficial? and how much power should be allocated for the AN signal to achieve a higher ergodic secrecy rate? in terms of channel correlation.
