We found that canagliflozin reduced the risk of both cardiovascular and renal events in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease without a significant interaction across the spectrum of baseline HbA1c values, which included patients with baseline HbA1c between 6.5% and 7%, suggesting that treatment of patients with chronic kidney disease or atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is warranted, even if their diabetes mellitus is "well controlled.".
