The oxidation behavior of body-centered cubic (bcc) structure Cr20Mn17Fe18Ta23W22 refractory high-entropy alloy (RHEA) and the microdefects induced by hydrogen ions before and after oxidation were investigated. The results revealed that compared with oxidizing Cr20Mn17Fe18Ta23W22 at 800 °C (6.7 °C/min) for 4 h (ST3, Ar:O2 = 3:1), the heating procedure of oxidizing Cr20Mn17Fe18Ta23W22 at 300 °C (6 °C/min) for 2 h and then increased to 800 °C (5 °C/min) for 4 h is more conducive to the production of oxides without spalling on the surface, i.e., HT1 (Ar:O2 = 1:1), HT2 (Ar:O2 = 2:1) and HT3 (Ar:O2 = 3:1) samples. The oxidation of Cr20Mn17Fe18Ta23W22 RHEA is mainly controlled by the diffusion of cations instead of affinities with O. Additionally, HT1 and HT3 samples irradiated with a fluence of 3.9 × 1022 cm−2 hydrogen ions (60 eV) were found to have a better hydrogen irradiation resistance than Cr20Mn17Fe18Ta23W22 RHEA. The microdefects in irradiated Cr20Mn17Fe18Ta23W22 mainly existed as hydrogen bubbles, hydrogen-vacancy (H-V) complexes and vacancy/vacancy clusters. The microdefects in irradiated HT3 were mainly vacancies and H-V complexes, while the microdefects in irradiated HT1 mainly existed as vacancies and vacancy clusters, as large amounts of hydrogen were consumed to react with oxides on the HT1 surface. Background: Ras homolog gene family member A (RhoA) is involved in Wnt-5a-induced migration of gastric and breast cancer cells. We investigated the roles of RhoA and Wnt-5a in ovarian carcinoma. Methods: RhoA and Wnt-5a mRNA and protein expression in normal fallopian tube epithelium, benign tumors, primary ovarian carcinomas, and metastatic omentum were quantified. RhoA or Wnt-5a was knocked down in OVCAR3 ovarian carcinoma cells using siRNAs and cell phenotype and expression of relevant molecules were assayed. Results: RhoA and Wnt-5a mRNA and protein expression were found to be significantly higher in metastatic omentum than in ovarian carcinomas, benign tumors, and normal fallopian tube epithelium (p < 0.05), and positively associated with differentiation and FIGO staging (stage I/II vs. stage III/IV) in ovarian carcinoma (p < 0.05). RhoA and Wnt-5a expression were positively correlated in ovarian carcinoma (p = 0.001, R² = 0.1669). RhoA or Wnt-5a knockdown downregulated RhoA and Wnt-5a expression; reduced cell proliferation; promoted G1 arrest and apoptosis; suppressed lamellipodia formation, cell migration, and invasion; and reduced PI3K, Akt, p70S6k, Bcl-xL, survivin, and VEGF mRNA or protein expression. Conclusions: This is the first demonstration that RhoA and Wnt-5a are associated with ovarian carcinogenesis and apoptosis inhibition; there might be positive correlation between RhoA and Wnt-5a expression. In this paper, the problem of Palmprint Recognition Across Different Devices (PRADD) is investigated, which has not been well studied so far. Since there is no publicly available PRADD image database, we created a non-contact PRADD image database containing 12,000 grayscale captured from 100 subjects using three devices, i.e., one digital camera and two smart-phones. Due to the non-contact image acquisition used, rotation and scale changes between different images captured from a same palm are inevitable. We propose a robust method to calculate the palm width, which can be effectively used for scale normalization of palmprints. On this PRADD image database, we evaluate the recognition performance of three different methods, i.e., subspace learning method, correlation method, and orientation coding based method, respectively. FeCl3-mediated oxidative cyclization was successfully used to construct an extended thiophene-pendant pyrene skeleton and synthesize a novel thiophene-fused polycyclic aromatic (THTP-C) with a tetracene core. The identity of the compound was confirmed by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, MS, and elemental analysis. Meanwhile, a single crystal of THTP-C was obtained and analyzed by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. THTP-C has a "saddle" shaped π-conjugated 1-D supramolecular structure, and favors highly ordered self-assembly by π-π interactions as evidenced by its concentration-dependent 1H-NMR spectra in solution. The optical properties of THTP-C were investigated by ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy and its electrochemical properties were investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV). The relatively large band gap (2.86 eV), low EHOMO level (-5.64 eV) and intermolecular π-π interactions imply that THTP-C has a high stability against photo-degradation and oxidation, and may be a promising candidate for stable hole-transporting materials. High-performance amorphous oxide semiconductor thin film transistors (AOS-TFT) with copper (Cu) electrodes are of great significance for next-generation large-size, high-refresh rate and high-resolution panel display technology. In this work, using rare earth dopant, neodymium-doped indium-zinc-oxide (NdIZO) film was optimized as the active layer of TFT with Cu source and drain (S/D) electrodes. Under the guidance of the Taguchi orthogonal design method from Minitab software, the semiconductor characteristics were evaluated by microwave photoconductivity decay (μ-PCD) measurement. The results show that moderate oxygen concentration (~5%), low sputtering pressure (≤5 mTorr) and annealing temperature (≤300 °C) are conducive to reducing the shallow localized states of NdIZO film. The optimized annealing temperature of this device configuration is as low as 250 °C, and the contact resistance (RC) is modulated by gate voltage (VG) instead of a constant value when annealed at 300 °C. It is believed that the adjustable RC with VG is the key to keeping both high mobility and compensation of the threshold voltage (Vth). The optimal device performance was obtained at 250 °C with an Ion/Ioff ratio of 2.89 × 107, a saturation mobility (μsat) of 24.48 cm2/(V·s) and Vth of 2.32 V. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cancer is a preeminent threat to the human race, causing millions of deaths each year on the Earth. Traditionally, natural compounds are deemed promising agents for cancer treatment. Cantharidin (CTD)—a terpenoid isolated from blister beetles—has been used extensively in traditional Chinese medicines for healing various maladies and cancer. CTD has been proven to be protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) and heat shock transcription factor 1 (HSF-1) inhibitor, which can be potential targets for its anticancer activity. Albeit, it harbors some toxicities, its immense anticancer potential cannot be overlooked, as the cancer-specific delivery of CTD could help to rescue its lethal effects. Furthermore, several derivatives have been designed to weaken its toxicity. In light of extensive research, the antitumor activity of CTD is evident in both in vitro as well as in vivo cancer models. CTD has also proven efficacious in combination with chemotherapy and radiotherapy and it can also target some drug-resistant cancer cells. This mini-review endeavors to interpret and summarize recent information about CTD anticancer potential and underlying molecular mechanisms. Video magnification reveals important and informative subtle variations in the world. These signals are often combined with large motions which result in significant blurring artifacts and haloes when conventional video magnification approaches are used. To counter these issues, this paper presents an amplitude-based filtering algorithm that can magnify small changes in video in presence of large motions. We seek to understand the amplitude characteristic of small changes and large motions with the goal of extracting accurate signals for visualization. Based on spectrum amplitude filtering, the large motions can be removed while small changes can still be magnified by Eulerian approach. An advantage of this algorithm is that it can handle large motions, whether they are linear or nonlinear. Our experimental results show that the proposed method can amplify subtle variations in the presence of large motion, as well as significantly reduce artifacts. We demonstrate the presented algorithm by comparing to the state-of-the-art and provide subjective and objective evidence for the proposed method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
