A novel biofuel cell (BFC)-based self-powered electrochemical immunosensing platform was developed by integrating the target-induced biofuel release and biogate immunoassay for ultrasensitive 17β-estradiol (E2) detection. The carbon nanocages/gold nanoparticle composite was employed in the BFCs device as the electrode material, through which bilirubin oxidase and glucose oxidase were wired to form the biocathode and bioanode, respectively. Positively charged mesoporous silica nanoparticles (PMSN) were encapsulated with glucose molecules as biofuel and subsequently coated by the negatively charged AuNPs-labelled anti-E2 antibody (AuNPs-Ab) serving as a biogate. The biogate could be opened efficiently and the trapped glucose released once the target E2 was recognized and captured by AuNPs-Ab due to the decreased adhesion between the antigen–antibody complex and PMSN. Then, glucose oxidase oxidized the glucose to produce a large number of electrons, resulting in significantly increased open-circuit voltage (EOCV). Promisingly, the proposed BFC-based self-powered immunosensor demonstrated exceptional sensitivity for the detection of E2 in the concentration range from 1.0 pg mL−1 to 10.0 ng mL −1, with a detection limit of 0.32 pg mL−1 (S/N = 3). Furthermore, the prepared BFC-based self-powered homogeneous immunosensor showed significant potential for implementation as a viable prototype for a mobile and an on-site bioassay system in food and environmental safety applications. Glioblastoma (GBM) is a highly aggressive, infiltrative malignancy that cannot be completely cured by current treatment modalities, and therefore requires more precise molecular subtype signatures to predict treatment response for personalized precision therapy. Expression subtypes of GBM samples from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) were identified using BayesNM and compared with existing molecular subtypes of GBM. Biological features of the subtypes were determined by single-sample gene set enrichment analysis. Genomic and proteomic data from GBM samples were combined and Genomic Identification of Significant Targets in Cancer analysis was used to screen genes with recurrent somatic copy-number alterations phenomenon. The immune environment among subtypes was compared by assessing the expression of immune molecules and the infiltration of immune cells. Molecular subtypes adapted to immunotherapy were identified based on Tumor Immune Dysfunction and Exclusion (TIDE) score. Finally, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) logistic regression was performed on the expression profiles of S2, S3 and S4 in TCGA-GBM and RPPA to determine the respective corresponding best predictive model. Four novel molecular subtypes were classified. Specifically, S1 exhibited a low proliferative profile; S2 exhibited the profile of high proliferation, IDH1 mutation, TP53 mutation and deletion; S3 was characterized by high immune scores, innate immunity and adaptive immune infiltration scores, with the lowest TIDE score and was most likely to benefit from immunotherapy; S4 was characterized by high proliferation, EGFR amplification, and high protein abundance, and was the most suitable subtype for bevacizumab. LASSO analysis constructed the best prediction model composed of 13 genes in S2 with an accuracy of 96.7%, and the prediction model consisting of 17 genes in S3 with an accuracy of 86.7%, and screened 14 genes as components of the best prediction model in S4 with an accuracy of 93%. To conclude, our study classified reproducible and robust molecular subtypes of GBM, and these findings might contribute to the identification of patients responding to immunotherapy, thereby improving GBM prognosis. Phosphorus (P) is an essential element for plant growth, and its deficiency can cause decreased crop yield. This study systematically evaluated the low-phosphate (Pi) response traits in a large population at maturity and seedling stages, and explored candidate genes and their interrelationships with specific traits. The results revealed a greater sensitivity of seedling maize to low-Pi stress compared to that at maturity stage. The phenotypic response patterns to low-Pi stress at different stages were independent. Chlorophyll content was found to be a potential indicator for screening low-Pi-tolerant materials in the field. A total of 2900 and 1446 significantly associated genes at the maturity and seedling stages were identified, respectively. Among these genes, 972 were uniquely associated with maturity traits, while 330 were specifically detected at the seedling stage under low-Pi stress. Moreover, 768 and 733 genes were specifically associated with index values (low-Pi trait/normal-Pi trait) at maturity and seedling stage, respectively. Genetic network diagrams showed that the low-Pi response gene Zm00001d022226 was specifically associated with multiple primary P-related traits under low-Pi conditions. A total of 963 out of 2966 genes specifically associated with traits under low-Pi conditions or index values were found to be induced by low-Pi stress. Notably, ZmSPX4.1 and ZmSPX2 were sharply up-regulated in response to low-Pi stress across different lines or tissues. These findings advance our understanding of maize’s response to low-Pi stress at different developmental stages, shedding light on the genes and pathways implicated in this response. Examining the connection between P and starch-related signals can help elucidate the balance between nutrients and yield. This study utilized 307 diverse maize inbred lines to conduct multi-year and multi-plot trials, aiming to explore the relationship among P content, starch content, and 100-kernel weight (HKW) of mature grains. A significant negative correlation was found between P content and both starch content and HKW, while starch content showed a positive correlation with HKW. The starch granules in grains with high-P and low-starch content (HPLS) were significantly smaller compared to grains with low-P high-starch content (LPHS). Additionally, mian04185-4 (HPLS) exhibited irregular and loosely packed starch granules. A significant decrease in ZmPHOs genes expression was detected in the HPLS line ZNC442 as compared to the LPHS line SCML0849, while no expression difference was observed in AGPase encoding genes between these two lines. The down-regulated genes in ZNC442 grains were enriched in nucleotide sugar and fatty acid anabolic pathways, while up-regulated genes were enriched in the ABC transporters pathway. An accelerated breakdown of fat as the P content increased was also observed. This implied that HPLS was resulted from elevated lipid decomposition and inadequate carbon sources. The GWAS analysis identified 514 significantly associated genes, out of which 248 were differentially expressed. Zm00001d052392 was found to be significantly associated with P content/HKW, exhibiting high expression in SCML0849 but almost no expression in ZNC442. Immunogenic cell death (ICD) is a newly discovered form of cellular demise that triggers adaptive immune responses mediated by T cells. However, the immunogenic cell death-related lncRNAs (ICDRLs) involved in bladder cancer (BC) development and progression remain to be further elucidated. Molecular profiling data and clinicopathological information for BC patients were obtained from TCGA, and the ICDRGs list was obtained from published literature. For the identification of ICDRLs, Pearson co-expression analysis was performed, and a prognostic signature based on 13 ICDRLs was constructed by univariate assays and LASSO assays. Herein, an ICDRLSig consisting of 13 ICDRLs was constructed. KM curves and ROC curves demonstrated that the constructed signature in the TCGA training, testing, entire and external sets have good predictive performance. Multivariate assays illuminated that the signature is an independent predictor for BC patients' OS, exhibiting greater predictive power for the survival than traditional clinicopathological features. Additionally, patients in the high-ICDRLSig risk subgroup had more abundant immune infiltration, higher immune checkpoint gene expression, lower TMB and poorer response to immunotherapy. Pickering emulsion stabilized by lignin particles has many advantages such as high flexibility, natural non-toxicity, anti-oxidation, and anti-ultraviolet. In order to promote the application of industrial lignin in the field of Pickering emulsions, this study has done comparatively systematic and basic research on Pickering emulsions stabilized by lignin particles. The emulsification effects of lignin particles on cyclohexane and n-decanol which have opposite polarity were compared firstly under different oil-water ratios. It was found that stable emulsions formed when the three-phase contact angle of oil/water/lignin was closer to 90°. The weakly polar cyclohexane could be well-emulsified by lignin particles, while the strong polar n-decanol could not. Cyclohexane was used as the oil phase to discuss the emulsification ability of lignin particles under different concentrations or with different particle sizes. Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a prevalent complication of type 2 diabetes (T2D). 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-biphosphatase 3 (PFKFB3) is a glycolysis regulator. However, the potential effects of PFKFB3 in the DCM remain unclear. In comparison to db/m mice, PFKFB3 levels decreased in the hearts of db/db mice. Cardiac-specific PFKFB3 overexpression inhibited myocardial oxidative stress and cardiomyocyte apoptosis, suppressed mitochondrial fragmentation, and partly restored mitochondrial function in db/db mice. Moreover, PFKFB3 overexpression stimulated glycolysis. Interestingly, based on the inhibition of glycolysis, PFKFB3 overexpression still suppressed oxidative stress and apoptosis of cardiomyocytes in vitro, which indicated that PFKFB3 overexpression could alleviate DCM independent of glycolysis. Using mass spectrometry combined with co-immunoprecipitation, we identified optic atrophy 1 (OPA1) interacting with PFKFB3. In db/db mice, the knockdown of OPA1 receded the effects of PFKFB3 overexpression in alleviating cardiac remodeling and dysfunction. Mechanistically, PFKFB3 stabilized OPA1 expression by promoting E3 ligase NEDD4L-mediated atypical K6-linked polyubiquitination and thus prevented the degradation of OPA1 by the proteasomal pathway. Background: NLRP3 inflammasome activation is significantly associated with sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (S-AKI). Cytosolic DNA derived from damaged mitochondria has been reported to activate NLRP3 inflammasome via upregulating the cyclic GMP–AMP synthase (cGAS)—the stimulator of interferon genes (STING) axis in nucleus pulposus cell and cardiomyocytes. However, the regulatory effect of mitochondria DNA (mtDNA)–cGAS–STING axis on the NLRP3 inflammasome in S-AKI remains unclear. Methods: In the current study, we established an in vivo model of S-AKI by intraperitoneally injecting male C57BL/6 J mice with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Next, selective cGAS inhibitor RU.521, and STING agonist DMXAA were intraperitoneally injected in the mice; then, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine (CRE), urinary kidney injury molecular-1 (KIM-1), pathological changes, and infiltrated neutrophils were detected to assess kidney injury. We also performed western blot and immunofluorescence assays to evaluate STING, cGAS, TBK-1, p-TBK-1, IRF3, p-IRF3, NF-kB, p-NF-kB, NLRP3, cleaved caspase-1, caspase-1, GSDMD-N, and GSDMD expression levels in kidney tissues. IL-18 and IL-1β in renal tissue were identified by ELISA. In vitro, we treated HK-2 cells with LPS to establish a cell model of S-AKI. Furthermore, ethidium bromide (EtBr) was administered to deplete mitochondria DNA (mtDNA). LPS-induced cytotoxicity was evaluated by LDH release assay. Protein expression of cGAS, STING, and NLRP3 in was quantified by western blot. Cytosolic mtDNA was detected by immunofluorescence and q-PCR. Released IL-1β and IL-18 in HK-2 supernatants were detected by ELISA. Results: LPS injection induced S-AKI in mice, as evidenced by neutrophil infiltration, tubular vacuolation, and increased levels of serum creatinine (CRE), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and urinary KIM-1. In addition, LPS activated the cGAS–STING axis and NLRP3 inflammasome in vivo, illustrated by increased phosphorylation levels of TBK-1, IRF3, and NF-kB protein, increased ratio of cleaved caspase-1 to caspase-1 and GSDMD-N to GSDMD, and increased IL-1β and IL-18 levels. Moreover, the cGAS inhibitor RU.521 effectively attenuated NLRP3 inflammasome and S-AKI; however, these effects were abolished by treatment with the STING agonist DMXAA. Furthermore, cytosolic release of mtDNA and activation of the cGAS–STING–NLRP3 axis were observed in LPS-treated HK-2 cells. Inhibiting mtDNA replication by Ethidium Bromide (EtBr) treatment reduced cytosolic mtDNA accumulation and downregulated the cGAS–STING–NLRP3 axis, ameliorating the cytotoxicity induced by LPS. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that the cGAS–STING axis was triggered by cytosolic mtDNA and participated in the development of S-AKI by activating NLRP3 inflammasome. Hard limestone substrates, which are extensively distributed, are believed to exacerbate drought and increase the difficulty of restoration in vulnerable karst regions. Fissures in such substrates may alleviate the negative effect of drought on plants, but the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. In a two-way factorial block design, the growth and photosynthesis of 2-year-old Phoebe zhennan seedlings were investigated in two water availabilities (high versus low) and three stimulated fissure habitat groups (soil, soil-filled fissure and non-soil-filled fissure). Moreover, the fissure treatments included both small and big fissures. Compared to the soil group, the non-soil-filled fissure group had decreased the total biomass, root biomass, total root length, and the root length of fine roots in the soil layer at both water availabilities, but increased net photosynthetic rate (Pn) and retained stable water use efficiency (WUE) at low water availability. However, there were no significant differences between the soil-filled fissure group and soil group in the biomass accumulation and allocation as well as Pn. Nevertheless, the SF group decreased the root distribution in total and in the soil layer, and also increased WUE at low water availability. Across all treatments, fissure size had no effect on plant growth or photosynthesis. Karst fissures filled with soil can alleviate drought impacts on plant root growth, which involves adjusting root distribution strategies and increasing water use efficiency. These results suggest that rock fissures can be involved in long-term plant responses to drought stress and vegetation restoration in rocky mountain environments under global climate change. Depressive symptoms and aggression often co-occur, and previous studies have found different bidirectional links between depressive symptoms and aggression, suggesting inconsistent developmental cascades. Moreover, it is unclear whether different functions of aggression are differentially associated with depressive symptoms over time. The present study examined the longitudinal associations of reactive and proactive aggression with depressive symptoms in early adolescence. Adolescents (n = 942, 50.7% girls; mean age = 12.54 years, SD = 0.42) were surveyed annually over three years (2019–2021). Random-intercept cross-lagged panel models were used to disentangle between- and within-person effects. The results showed moderate between-person associations of depressive symptoms with the two aggressive functions. And depressive symptoms were more highly associated with reactive aggression than with proactive aggression. However, the state-level bidirectional cross-lagged associations between reactive and proactive aggression and depressive symptoms were not significant. This study highlights the stable trait-like association between depressive symptoms and reactive aggression, and the absence of state-level bidirectional cross-lagged associations challenges previous developmental cascades in adolescents. Pulchinenoside B4, a natural saponin monomer from the Pulsatilla plant, plays an important role as an immunomodulator in the treatment of acute inflammation. Oral ulcer (OU) is a common ulcerative injury disease that occurs in the oral mucosa, including mucosal ulceration and abnormalities of lips and tongue. A close correlation exists between gut microbiota and circulating metabolites in patients with OU. However, the correlation between gut microbiota and serum metabolomics is not clear. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the changes in gut microbiota and metabolites in OU. The 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) gene sequencing was used to detect the changes in the composition of gut microbiota in OU rat model. Moreover, the endogenous small metabolites were explored by collecting the non-targeted serum metabolomics data. A total of 34 OU-related biomarkers were identified, mainly related to fatty acid metabolism and inflammatory pathways. The administration of B4 effectively reduced the occurrence of OU and restored the levels of multiple endogenous biomarkers and key gut microbial species to the normal level. This study demonstrated that the gut microbiota and metabolites were altered in the OU rat model, which were significantly restored to the normal level by B4, thereby showing good application prospects in the treatment of OU. Grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) is an economically important fruit crop cultivated worldwide. In China, grapevine cultivation is very extensive, and a few Vitis grapes have excellent pathogen and stress resistance, but the molecular mechanisms underlying the grapevine response to stress remain unclear. In this study, a microRNA (miRNA; miR827a), which negatively regulates its target gene VqMYB14, a key regulatory role in the synthesis of stilbenes, was identified in Vitis quinquangularis (V. quinquangularis) using transcriptome sequencing. Using overexpression and silencing approaches, we found that miR827a regulates the synthesis of stilbenes by targeting VqMYB14. We used flagellin N-terminal 22-amino-acid peptide (flg22), the representative elicitor in plant basal immunity, as the elicitor to verify whether miR827a is involved in the basal immunity of V. quinquangularis. Furthermore, the promoter activity of miR827a was alleviated in transgenic grape protoplasts and Arabidopsis thaliana following treatment with flg22 and Pseudomonas syringae pv. Tomato DC3000 (Pst DC3000), respectively. In addition, yeast one-hybrid and dual luciferase reporter assay revealed that the ethylene transcription factor VqERF057 acted as a key regulator in the inhibition of miR827a transcription. These results will contribute to the understanding of the biological functions of miR827a in grapevine and clarify the molecular mechanism of the interaction between miR827a and VqMYB14. Key message: A major and stable QTL, QFn.sau-1B.2, which can explain 13.6% of the PVE in FN and has a positive effect on resistance in SGR, was mapped and validated. The falling number (FN) is considered one of the most important quality traits of wheat grain and is the most important quality evaluation index for wheat trade worldwide. The quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for FN were mapped in three years of experiments. 23, 30, and 58 QTLs were identified using the ICIM-BIP, ICIM-MET, and ICIM-EPI methods, respectively. Among them, seven QTLs were considered stable. QFn.sau-1B.2, which was mapped to the 1BL chromosome, can explain 13.6% of the phenotypic variation on average and is considered a major and stable QTL for FN. This QTL was mapped in a 1 cM interval and is flanked by the markers AX-110409346 and AX-108743901. Epistatic analysis indicated that QFN.sau-1B.2 has a strong influence on FN through both additive and epistatic effects. The Kompetitive Allele-Specific PCR marker KASP-AX-108743901, which is closely linked to QFn.sau-1B.2, was designed. The genetic effect of QFn.sau-1B.2 on FN was successfully confirmed in Chuannong18 × T1208 and CN17 × CN11 populations. Moreover, the results of the additive effects of favorable alleles for FN showed that the QTLs for FN had significant effects not only on FN but also on the resistance to spike germination. Within the interval of QFn.sau-1B.2, 147 high-confidence genes were found. According to the gene annotation and the transcriptome data, four genes might be associated with FN. Background: Postoperative anastomotic leakage (PAL) is a serious complication of gastric cancer surgery. Although perioperative management has made considerable progress, anastomotic leakage (AL) cannot always be avoided. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether intraoperative leak testing (IOLT) can reduce the incidence of PAL and other postoperative outcomes in gastric cancer surgery. Materials and methods: In this meta-analysis, we searched the PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases for clinical trials to assess the application of IOLT in gastric cancer surgery. All patients underwent laparoscopic radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer surgery. Studies comparing the postoperative outcomes of IOLT and no intraoperative leak testing (NIOLT) were included. Quality assessment, heterogeneity, risk of bias, and the level of evidence of the included studies were evaluated. PAL, anastomotic-related complications, 30-day mortality, and reoperation rates were compared between the IOLT and NIOLT group. Results: Our literature search returned 721 results, from which six trials (a total of 1,666 patients) were included in our meta-analysis. Statistical heterogeneity was low. The primary outcome was PAL. IOLT reduced the incidence of PAL [2.09% vs 6.68%; (RR = 0.31, 95% Cl 0.19–0.53, P < 0.0001]. Anastomotic-related complications, which included bleeding, leakage, and stricture, were significantly higher in the NIOLT group than in the IOLT group [3.24% VS 10.85%; RR = 0.30, 95% Cl 0.18–0.53, P < 0.0001]. Moreover, IOLT was associated with lower reoperation rates [0.94% vs 6.83%; RR = 0.18, 95% CI 0.07–0.43, P = 0.0002]. Conclusion: Considering the observed lower incidence of postoperative anastomotic leakage (PAL), anastomotic-related complications, and reoperation rates, IOLT appears to be a promising option for gastric cancer surgery. Tool wear is one of the factors restraining the improvement of product efficiency and machining quality, especially for the aerospace industries with high-added-value parts and hard-to-cut material. During the finish milling of the free-form surface, tool orientations and engagement regions constantly change, which renders the traditional average flank wear hard to describe the tool wear condition accurately. In the present work, tool wear in multiple dimensions is studied comprehensively by using solid carbide ball-end mills with different lend angles, and it is designed by a fixed GH4169 workpiece in various angles. The results show that flank wear, wear depth, wear area, and wear volume increase with the cutting length. The relationship between cutting parameters and those wear features was analyzed with the variance and cluster analysis. The rates of wear area and wear volume were more sensitive to cutting parameters compared to flank wear. What's more, wear volume was affected significantly by all the main effects and some intersections of those factors, that is, spindle speeds, feeds, lead angles, and initial flank wear, which gave the maximum information in distinguishing the effects of cutting parameters. Objectives: To evaluate the diffusion kurtosis and susceptibility change in the U-fiber region of patients with relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (pwRRMS) and their correlations with cognitive status and degeneration. Materials and methods: Mean kurtosis (MK), axial kurtosis (AK), radial kurtosis (RK), kurtosis fractional anisotropy (KFA), and the mean relative quantitative susceptibility mapping (mrQSM) values in the U-fiber region were compared between 49 pwRRMS and 48 healthy controls (HCs). The U-fiber were divided into upper and deeper groups based on the location. The whole brain volume, gray and white matter volume, and cortical thickness were obtained. The correlations between the mrQSM values, DKI-derived metrics in the U-fiber region and clinical scale scores, brain morphologic parameters were further investigated. Results: The decreased MK, AK, RK, KFA, and increased mrQSM values in U-fiber lesions (p < 0.001, FDR corrected), decreased RK, KFA, and increased mrQSM values in U-fiber non-lesions (p = 0.034, p < 0.001, p < 0.001, FDR corrected) were found in pwRRMS. There were differences in DKI-derived metrics and susceptibility values between the upper U-fiber region and the deeper one for U-fiber non-lesion areas of pwRRMS and HCs (p < 0.05), but not for U-fiber lesions in DKI-derived metrics. The DKI-derived metrics and susceptibility values were widely related with cognitive tests and brain atrophy. Conclusion: RRMS patients show abnormal diffusion kurtosis and susceptibility characteristics in the U-fiber region, and these underlying tissue abnormalities are correlated with cognitive deficits and degeneration. Clinical relevance statement: The macroscopic and microscopic tissue damages of U-fiber help to identify cognitive impairment and brain atrophy in multiple sclerosis and provide underlying pathophysiological mechanism. In this paper, linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) fibers were stabilized by ultraviolet ray (UV) irradiation, which provided a new treatment method for fabricating carbon fiber precursors. LLDPE chips were blended with a photo-initiator 4-chlorobenzophenone (4-CBP) and a crosslinker 1,2-polybutadiene (1,2-PB) to obtain spun particles, and then they were melt spun into the fibers. Then, UV irradiation of the as-spun fibers was performed to obtain precursors. An orthogonal experimental design investigated the effects of the ingredient ratio LLDPE:1,2-PB and UV irradiation time on the fiber gelation. The results show that the factor's order of influence was: ingredient ratio > UV irradiation time. The fiber gelation reaches a maximum of 67.51% at a dosage ratio of LLDPE:1, 2-PB of 97:2, and a UV irradiation time of 30 min. The UV irradiation introduced the crosslinking structure of LLDPE fibers, and the melting temperature of UV-XLPE fibers shifts toward lower temperatures, and the crystal size of the fibers decreased with increasing UV irradiation time. However, longer irradiation time does not beneficially affect the gelation degree. Digital light processing (DLP) 3D printing technology has shown promising applications due to its capability of rapidly fabricating intricate structures with high resolution. However, achieving DLP printed parts with high print quality and robust mechanical properties remains a challenge. This study investigated the effects of crucial printing parameters (exposure time and layer thickness) on the geometric accuracy and mechanical properties of DLP printed parts. The results indicated that the number of exposures for each layer increased with decreasing layer thickness and with increasing exposure time. Excessive exposure for each layer could lead to printed components exceeding their intended dimensions, whereas inadequate exposure could result in undersized components. In terms of mechanical properties, it was found that increasing exposure time and decreasing layer thicknesses can enhance the level of curing, thereby improving mechanical properties of printed specimens. To achieve a balance between mechanical properties and dimensional accuracy while enhancing printing efficiency, a combination of higher exposure time and larger layer thickness was selected based on comprehensive analysis. Furthermore, this work also studied the influence of build direction on mechanical properties of printed parts. The results found that mechanical properties of printed specimens decreased with the increase of build direction, with a significant reduction from 45° to 90°. Numerous observational studies have suggested a potential causal relationship between skipping breakfast and cardiovascular diseases, including heart failure (HF). However, these studies are susceptible to inherent confounders and the challenge of reverse causation, and the underlying metabolic factors are not yet clear. Therefore, our aim is to assess the causal impact of breakfast skipping on HF and the role of potential mediating metabolic products from a genetic perspective, by conducting Mendelian Randomization (MR) studies and mediation analysis. We leveraged summary data from the most extensive genome-wide association studies to date on breakfast skipping (with 193,860 participants), blood metabolites (with 118,461 participants), and HF (involving 47,309 cases and 930,014 controls). To explore the causal relationship between breakfast skipping and HF, as well as the role of 249 potential blood metabolite mediators, we conducted bidirectional MR and mediation MR analyses. We primarily employed the Inverse Variance Weighted (IVW) method, complemented by various other techniques to ensure the comprehensiveness and reliability of our analysis. Our research confirms a causal association between breakfast skipping and an increased risk of HF (odds ratio [OR]: 1.378, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.047–1.813; p = 0.022). Furthermore, our research findings demonstrate that breakfast skipping is positively correlated with 6 blood metabolites and negatively correlated with 2 others. Notably, our mediation MR analysis further reveals that three blood metabolites act as mediators in the relationship between breakfast skipping and the risk of HF. Specifically, the mediating effects are attributed to the ratio of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) to total fatty acids (proportion mediated = 9.41%, 95% CI: 2.10–28.61%), glucose (proportion mediated = 6.17%, 95% CI: 0.97–28.53%), and glycoprotein acetyls (GlycA) (proportion mediated = 5.68%, 95% CI: 0.94–21.62%). The combined mediating effects of these three factors total 20.53% (95%CI: 8.59–91.06%). Our research confirms the causal relationship between genetically instrumented breakfast skipping and HF, underscoring the potential mediating roles played by three key blood metabolites: ratio of DHA to total fatty acids, glucose and GlycA. To investigate whether peritumoral edema (PE) could enhance deep learning radiomic (DLR) model in predicting axillary lymph node metastasis (ALNM) burden in breast cancer. Invasive breast cancer patients with preoperative MRI were retrospectively enrolled and categorized into low (< 2 lymph nodes involved (LNs+)) and high (≥ 2 LNs+) burden groups based on surgical pathology. PE was evaluated on T2WI, and intra- and peri-tumoral radiomic features were extracted from MRI-visible tumors in DCE-MRI. Deep learning models were developed for LN burden prediction in the training cohort and validated in an independent cohort. The incremental value of PE was evaluated through receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis, confirming the improvement in the area under the curve (AUC) using the Delong test. This was complemented by net reclassification improvement (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) metrics. The deep learning combined model, incorporating PE with selected radiomic features, demonstrated significantly higher AUC values compared to the MRI model and the DLR model in the training cohort (n = 177) (AUC: 0.953 vs. 0.849 and 0.867, p < 0.05) and the validation cohort (n = 111) (AUC: 0.963 vs. 0.883 and 0.882, p < 0.05). The complementary analysis demonstrated that PE significantly enhances the prediction performance of the DLR model (Categorical NRI: 0.551, p < 0.001; IDI = 0.343, p < 0.001). These findings were confirmed in the validation cohort (Categorical NRI: 0.539, p < 0.001; IDI = 0.387, p < 0.001). Acute pancreatitis, a common exocrine inflammatory disease affecting the pancreas, is characterized by intense abdominal pain and multiple organ dysfunction. However, the alterations in retinal blood vessels among individuals with acute pancreatitis remain poorly understood. This study employed optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) to examine the superficial and deep retinal blood vessels in patients with pancreatitis. Sixteen patients diagnosed with pancreatitis (32 eyes) and 16 healthy controls (32 eyes) were recruited from the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University for participation in the study. Various ophthalmic parameters, such as visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and OCTA image for retina consisting of the superficial retinal layer (SRL) and the deep retinal layer (DRL), were recorded for each eye. The study observed the superficial and deep retinal microvascular ring (MIR), macrovascular ring (MAR), and total microvessels (TMI) were observed. Changes in retinal vascular density in the macula through annular partitioning (C1–C6), hemispheric quadrant partitioning (SR, SL, IL, and IR), and early diabetic retinopathy treatment studies (ETDRS) partitioning methods (R, S, L, and I). Correlation analysis was employed to investigate the relationship between retinal capillary density and clinical indicators. Our study revealed that in the superficial retinal layer, the vascular density of TMI, MIR, MAR, SR, IR, S, C2, C3 regions were significantly decreased in patients group compared with the normal group. For the deep retinal layer, the vascular density of MIR, SR, S, C1, C2 regions also reduced in patient group. The ROC analysis demonstrated that OCTA possesses significant diagnostic performance for pancreatitis. In conclusion, patients with pancreatitis may have retinal microvascular dysfunction, and OCTA can be a valuable tool for detecting alterations in ocular microcirculation in pancreatitis patients in clinical practice. The rheological properties of polymers before and after mixing are of primary concern because of the damage to the original molecular weight of polymers during processing. In order to reveal the correlation between mixing speed, rheological properties of polymer melts, and their molecular weight parameters, different grades of polybutadiene rubber (BR) at different mixing speeds were prepared in this study. Furthermore, the selected samples were subjected to the dynamic melt viscoelasticity test using a rubber process analyzer (RPA). The molecular weight changes of BR after mixing were observed on a rheological basis to analyze the effects of mechanical shear and thermo-oxidative aging on the molecular weight and distribution of the rubber. The measured values were directly compared with those obtained from gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The results showed that lower mixing speeds did not significantly affect the number-mean molecular weight (Mn), while the Z-mean molecular weight (Mz) and the weight-mean molecular weight (Mw) were increased, and the molecular weight distribution (MWD) was expanded. In addition, a transition state between thermo-oxidative aging and mechanical shear was further demonstrated. The behavior of the rubber was further elucidated and validated through large-amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) tests and thermal stability tests, demonstrating that the gel is a manifestation of the molecular weight coalescence of rubber and associating it with the mixing process of BR. According to the results of the RPA tests, melt rheology characterization is an environmentally friendly and fast way to provide information about the molecular structure of the BR. In this paper, the N,N′-dicyclohexylterephthalamide (DCHT) with various morphologies and sizes was prepared by antisolvent precipitation at room temperature, and DCHT single crystals were also grown. Among them, DCHT crystals precipitated from deionized water (H2O), alcohol (C2H5OH) and N′N-dimethylformamide (DMF) are particle-like crystallites (DCHT-H2O), cuboid (DCHT-C2H5OH) and large rectangular crystals (DCHT-DMF), respectively. The powder XRD results show that the (002) plane is the dominant growth plane of the DCHT crystals, and the diffraction peak intensity of (100) plane is negatively correlated with the size of the DCHT crystals. The single-crystal XRD results show that the minimum distance between the two nearest DCHT molecules is the hydrogen bond distance (2.21 Å), and the (100) crystal plane is the plane of hydrogen bonding between DCHT molecules. Thus, it is speculated that the hydrogen bonding interaction is the main driving force for the growth of DCHT crystals. Further, the effect of different morphologies and sizes of DCHT on isotactic polypropylene (iPP) crystallization was investigated. Non-isothermal crystallization studies revealed that the DCHT size plays a decisive role in increasing the crystallization temperature of iPP. Through isothermal crystallization, it was found that the upper critical temperature of β-α growth "transition" of iPP could be related to the morphology of DCHT. Finally, the iPP film was attached to the surface of DCHT single crystal, and its crystallization behavior was studied. The rail profile milling process allows considerable thickness to be removed in a single pass. However, the residual waviness formation law after milling and its subsequent effect on rail performance remains uncertain. In this paper, the wavelength and wave height of the residual waviness are identified as the key characteristics. The relationship between milling speed and residual waviness is determined, and a numerical model of the residual waviness formed on the surface after milling is established based on the commonly used three milling speeds of 300, 600, and 1000 m/h, and its accuracy is verified using the parameters of the residual waviness detected by the milling experiments. A three-dimensional finite element analysis model of wheel-rail contact was employed to analyze the contact stresses and low fatigue cycles at a wheel load of 11.5 tons with no residual waviness on the rail profile surface and with three types of residual waviness, respectively. The results show that the residual waviness changes the wheel-rail contact position and the morphology of the contact area, reduces the maximum contact stress and increases the strain fatigue cycles. The application of elevated milling speeds reduces the wheel-rail contact stresses after milling, thereby increasing the low fatigue cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cisplatin is the most commonly used platinum-based treatment for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). However, its clinical application is limited owing to its nephrotoxicity and gastrointestinal reactions. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) have been reported to increase nephrotoxicity risk in previous studies. We aimed to evaluate whether PPIs increase cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity in patients with NPC. In total, 295 patients were included in this prospective cohort study: 145 in the PPIs group and 150 in the non-PPIs group. All patients underwent cisplatin-based induction chemotherapy, followed by cisplatin-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy. The PPIs group received 40 mg of intravenous esomeprazole sodium for 7 days in each chemotherapy cycle. Chi-squared test and logistic regression analyses with odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were applied to assess the association between PPIs and the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI). AKI incidence in the PPIs group was significantly higher than that in the non-PPIs group (P = 0.005). After adjusting for various confounders including demographic features, clinical features, and renal function indices, PPIs use was significantly associated with a higher AKI risk (odds ratio: 2.775; 95% confidence interval 1.280–6.020; P = 0.010). The incidences of acute and chronic kidney diseases were similar between both groups (P > 0.05), whereas the incidence of nausea was lower in the PPIs group than in the non-PPIs group (P = 0.029). Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease in the world. Although most cases are sporadic and occur later in life, 10–15% of cases are genetic. Loss-of-function mutations in the ring-between-ring E3 ubiquitin ligase parkin, encoded by the PRKN gene, cause autosomal recessive forms of early onset PD. Together with the kinase PINK1, parkin forms a mitochondrial quality control pathway that tags damaged mitochondria for clearance. Under basal conditions, parkin is inhibited and compounds that increase its activity have been proposed as a therapy for PD. Recently, several naturally occurring hyperactive parkin variants were identified, which increased mitophagy in cultured cells. Here, we validate the hyperactivities of these variants in vitro and compare the levels of activity of the variants to those of the wild-type and the well-characterized hyperactive variant, W403A. We also study the effects of mutating the parkin ACT (activating element) on parkin activity in vitro. This work advances our understanding of the pathogenicity of parkin variants and is an important first step in the design of molecules to increase parkin activity. Accurate diagnosis of white blood cells from cytopathological images is a crucial step in evaluating leukaemia. In recent years, image classification methods based on fully convolutional networks have drawn extensive attention and achieved competitive performance in medical image classification. In this paper, we propose a white blood cell classification network called ResNeXt-CC for cytopathological images. First, we transform cytopathological images from the RGB color space to the HSV color space so as to precisely extract the texture features, color changes and other details of white blood cells. Second, since cell classification primarily relies on distinguishing local characteristics, we design a cross-layer deep-feature fusion module to enhance our ability to extract discriminative information. Third, the efficient attention mechanism based on the ECANet module is used to promote the feature extraction capability of cell details. Finally, we combine the modified softmax loss function and the central loss function to train the network, thereby effectively addressing the problem of class imbalance and improving the network performance. The experimental results on the C-NMC 2019 dataset show that our proposed method manifests obvious advantages over the existing classification methods, including ResNet-50, Inception-V3, Densenet121, VGG16, Cross ViT, Token-to-Token ViT, Deep ViT, and simple ViT about 5.5–20.43% accuracy, 3.6–23.56% F1-score, 3.5–25.71% AUROC and 8.1–36.98% specificity, respectively. 3D point cloud data, as an immersive detailed data source, has been increasingly used in numerous applications. To deal with the computational and storage challenges of this data, it needs to be compressed before transmission, storage, and processing, especially in real-time systems. Instead of decoding the compressed data stream and subsequently conducting downstream tasks on the decompressed data, analyzing point clouds directly in their compressed domain has attracted great interest. In this paper, we dive into the realm of compressed point cloud classification (CPCC), aiming to achieve high point cloud classification accuracy in a bitrate-saving way by ensuring the bit stream contains a high degree of representative information of the point cloud. Edge information is one of the most important and representative attributes of the point cloud because it can display the outlines or main shapes. However, extracting edge points or information from point cloud models is challenging due to their irregularity and sparsity. To address this challenge, we adopt an advanced edge-sampling method that enhances existing state-of-the-art (SOTA) point cloud edge-sampling techniques based on attention mechanisms and consequently develop a novel CPCC method "CPCC-PES" that focuses on point cloud's edge information. The result obtained on the benchmark ModelNet40 dataset shows that our model has superior rate-accuracy trade-off performance than SOTA works. Specifically, our method achieves over 90% Top-1 Accuracy with a mere 0.08 bits-per-point (bpp), marking a remarkable over 96% reduction in BD-bitrate compared with specialized codecs. This means that our method only consumes 20% of the bitrate of other SOTA works while maintaining comparable accuracy. Lung cancer is intricately associated with genetic susceptibility, leading to familial clustering among affected individuals. This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) toward lung cancer risk among the offspring of lung cancer patients. This study was conducted at Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital between April 2023 and August 2023. Participants' demographic characteristics and KAP toward lung cancer risk were collected through questionnaires. A total of 481 valid questionnaires were enrolled, with 243 (50.52%) males, and 242 (50.31%) aged > 40 years old. The mean scores for knowledge, attitude, and practice were 8.54 ± 2.60 (range: 0–13), 25.93 ± 3.16 (range: 7–35), and 17.47 ± 4.30 (range: 5–25), respectively. Structural equation modeling indicated that knowledge exerted a negative direct effect on attitude (β = − 0.417, P = 0.006) but a positive direct effect on practice (β = 0.733, P = 0.025). Additionally, attitudes displayed a negative direct effect on practice (β = − 1.707, P = 0.002). In conclusion, offspring of lung cancer patients exhibited insufficient knowledge, positive attitude, and suboptimal practice toward lung cancer risk. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Co-hydrothermal carbonization (co-HTC) of phosphorus rock (PR) and corn straw (CS) was investigated to prepare hydrochar-based materials as soil conditioners, focusing on the morphological transformation and solid–liquid migration of carbon and phosphorus. Various analytical methods, including elemental analysis, chemical quantification, FT-IR, XRD, 3D-EEM, TG, and XANES, were used to understand the synergistic interactions of PR and CS during co-HTC and determine the properties of the resultant products. The results indicated the acidic solution and humic acid-like substances produced by HTC of CS reduced the crystallinity of the PR and served as the activating agent for PR, allowing the PR to be easily dissolved and reconstituted, producing calcium carbonate and apatite-like materials, and the formation of C–O–PO3, C–PO3, C=O, and O=C–O chemical bonds. At 220 °C, adding 5% PR significantly promoted a 10.3% rise in the yield of CS hydrochar, a 4.3% rise in carbon recovery of CS, and a 4.8% rise in carbon sequestration potential of CS. The formation of Ca–P was notably promoted and the content of AP in co-HTC hydrochar was up to 89.9%, with 39% Hydro-P and 33% CaHPO4. In the case of artificial humic acid (HAa), its content was also remarkably increased by 5.9% in the hydrochar by co-HTC. In addition, the hydrochar produced by co-HTC of CS and PR was composed of carbon with an increased aromatic degree, rich organic matter, and biologically effective mineral nutrient elements and exhibited high stability. The present study provided a promising approach for value-added utilization of waste biomass and low-grade PR towards soil application. The presence of numerous open joints and complex three-dimensional (3D) geometrical characteristics in natural rock masses creates structural discontinuities that significantly impact stress-wave propagation and the rock's damage and failure behaviors. In this study, specimens featuring open joints were prepared using 3D printing techniques, and an indoor 3D blasting experiment was conducted at dig angles of 50°, 70°, and 90°. Computed tomography (CT) scans and subsequent 3D reconstructions were employed to analyze the 3D distribution of cracks in the blasted specimens. The blasting process on a rock mass with open joints was inversely deduced using the numerical simulation software AUTODYN, considering the evolution of stress-wave propagation and blasting-induced damage as a function of the open joint dip angle. The results revealed the formation of blast-induced cracks primarily at the ends of the open joints, accompanied by circumferential cracks on the outer surface surrounding the projected joint profile. The incident angle of the stress wave compromised the stressed state at the joint ends, resulting in variations in crack distribution patterns on the back-blast side. As the joint dip angle increased, both the fractal dimension and specimen damage escalated, while the inhibitory effect of the 3D open joint face on crack propagation weakened. The dip angle of the joint face significantly influences the form and intensity of the stress wave. When the stress wave is vertically incident, bypassing waves at the lower and upper ends, along with the wave transmitted in the middle, cause the open joint face to close under stress. Consequently, the stress and damage fields exhibit a weakening effect on the side closer to the blast and an intensification effect on the opposite side. Highlights: Specimens featuring opening joints were prepared using 3D printing, and the fracture modes of joints with varying opening angles under blasting loads were examined. The spatial configuration of 3D cracks was reconstructed, and an analysis was conducted to determine how the opening joint angle influenced the spatial distribution of these cracks during rock blasting. Janus films with asymmetric physical/chemical properties have attracted considerable attention due to their promising applications in personal thermal management, electronic skins, sensors, actuators, etc. However, traditional methods for fabricating Janus films conventionally need the assistance of an interface or auxiliary equipment, which are usually complex and time-consuming. Herein, flexible poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/graphene oxide (GO)/h-BN (recorded as PVA/GO/h-BN) Janus films with thermally, optically, and electrically anisotropic properties are fabricated by a simple density deposition self-assembly method, which just utilizes the density difference between GO and h-BN during water evaporation. Experimental results show that the two sides of the acquired Janus films have obvious asymmetric characteristics. In the original state of the PVA/GO/h-BN Janus films, the thermal conductivity of the GO side (10.06 W·m−1·K−1) is generally lower than that of the h-BN side (10.48 W·m−1·K−1). But after GO is reduced, the thermal conductivity of the rGO side reaches 12.17 W·m−1·K−1, surpassing that of the h-BN side. In addition, the relative reflectance of the h-BN side of Janus film is also significantly higher than that of the rGO side, and the surface resistance difference between the two sides is about 4 orders of magnitude. The prepared PVA/GO/h-BN Janus films show great application potential in human thermal management, light conversion switches, and electronic skins. Educational research has emphasized the importance of help-seeking in learning and engagement. However, little is known about the impact that help-giving may potentially have on student engagement and academic achievement. There is also a lack of knowledge about the environmental factors that might facilitate help-giving. This study investigated how help-giving is associated with student engagement and academic achievement by drawing on the Chinese College Student Survey (CCSS), which involved data from 67,182 Chinese college students. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data. Results showed that students who experienced a positive social climate, particularly those who had positive social interactions with their peers, teachers, and university staff members were more likely to help their peers with schoolwork. In turn, these students who helped their peers were more cognitively, emotionally, and behaviorally engaged. They also had higher levels of academic achievement themselves. Purpose: Growth differentiating Factor 15 (GDF15) is linked to several cancers, but its effect on chemoresistance in colorectal cancer (CRC) remains unclear. Here, we investigated the role of GDF15 in the chemotherapeutic response of CRC patients to oxaliplatin (L-OHP). Methods: GDF15 levels in serum and tumour tissues were detected in CRC patients have received L-OHP-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The effects of GDF15 neutralization or GDF15 knockdown on cell proliferation, apoptosis and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were analysed in vitro and in vivo. Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP), Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP) and luciferase reporter assays were used to explore the interaction between GDF15 and Nrf2. Results: In this study, we found that GDF15 alleviates oxidative stress to induce chemoresistance of L-OHP in CRC. Mechanically, GDF15 posttranscriptionally regulates protein stability of Nrf2 through the canonical PI3K/AKT/GSK3β signaling pathway, and in turn, Nrf2 acts as a transcription factor to regulate GDF15 expression to form a positive feedback loop, resulting in the maintenance of redox homeostasis balance in CRC. Furthermore, a positive correlation between GDF15 and Nrf2 was observed in clinical CRC samples, and simultaneous overexpression of both GDF15 and Nrf2 was associated with poor prognosis in CRC patients treated with L-OHP. Simultaneous inhibition of both GDF15 and Nrf2 significantly increases the response to L-OHP in an L-OHP-resistant colorectal cancer cells-derived mouse xenograft model. Conclusion: This study identified a novel GDF15-Nrf2 positive feedback loop that drives L-OHP resistance and suggested that the GDF15-Nrf2 axis is a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of L-OHP-resistant CRC. Chicken coccidiosis causes retarded growth and low production performance in poultry, resulting in huge economic losses to the poultry industry. In order to prevent and control chicken coccidiosis, great efforts have been made to develop new drugs and vaccines, which require pure isolates of Eimeria spp. In this study, we obtained the Eimeira tenella Xiantao isolate by single oocyst isolation technology and compared its genome with the reference genome GCF_000499545.2_ETH001 of the Houghton strain. The results of the comparative genomic analysis indicated that the genome of this isolate contained 46,888 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). There were 15,107 small insertion and deletion variations (indels), 1693 structural variations (SV), and 3578 copy number variations (CNV). In addition, 64 broilers were used to determine the resistance profile of Xiantao strain. Drug susceptibility testing revealed that this isolate was completely resistant to monensin, diclazuril, halofuginone, sulfachlorpyrazine sodium, and toltrazuril, but sensitive to decoquinate. The blockchain-based Electronic Medical Record (EMR) data storage system encounters challenges which are data leakage, insufficient access control, and low retrieval efficiency. In response to these issues, this paper proposes a lightweight searchable encryption and access control system for sharing EMR data securely. The lightweight searchable encryption scheme which is achieved by integrating the trapdoor verification phase with the keyword retrieval phase is constructed using BGG13 + and MP12. User access control is implemented through a Boolean circuit to replace arithmetic operations and thus improve arithmetic efficiency. Since logic operations can reduce the computation time, this paper uses Boolean circuits for user rights verification implementation. In addition, this paper adopts the Bloom filter as the system index to enhance the efficiency of block-chain data retrieval. This study evaluated this thermal reaction behavior of oxidized and pyrolyzed oils containing diverse clay minerals by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) technology. The catalytic role of various clay minerals for thermal reaction processes involving oxidized oil and pyrolyzed oil during in situ combustion (ISC) was investigated in conjunction with kinetic calculation methods as well. The results demonstrated that all four clay minerals could shorten its temperature region of oxidized oil low-temperature oxidation (LTO) stage, with the peak temperature during the LTO stage of oxidized oil containing montmorillonite being dramatically reduced. The catalytic role of montmorillonite and illite on oxidized oil is more powerful in the high-temperature oxidation (HTO) stage with higher peak heat flow. The Lewis acid sites within clay minerals affect free radical reactions within the crude oil pyrolysis process, and in situ reforming performance of 400°C pyrolyzed oils containing clay minerals is less effective, along with low heat release in the LTO stage. Clay minerals can considerably minimize the activation energy during thermal reaction of oxidized oil, contributing to the coke generation and conversion in the fuel deposition (FD) stage and boosting the success rate of the ISC procedure. The catalytic role of clay minerals in the oxidation and pyrolysis reactions of crude oil contributes to the prediction of fuel deposition and the expansion of the combustion front during ISC under diverse types of rock conditions. Background and aim: Deep roots are important for crops to access water when the topsoil is dry. Root anatomy and activity play an important role in water uptake. However, little is known about the effects of root distribution and anatomical structure on water uptake and grain yield under different water conditions. This study aimed to reveal the contribution of deeper roots, root anatomy and root activity on grain yield and water use efficiency. Methods: A field experiment and Rhizobox experiment were performed to evaluate the effects of changes in root distribution, root anatomy and root activity on grain yield and water use efficiency under three water conditions. Three dryland wheat cultivars (BM1, CH58 and CH1) were compared. Results: BM1 formed a root system, which limited the acquisition of water in the subsoil, resulting in lower grain yield and water use efficiency in field and rhizobox experiments. In contrast, cultivars CH58 and CH1 exhibited greater root biomass and root length density in the subsoil, optimizing subsoil water uptake, thereby increasing grain yield and water use efficiency. CH58 had a smaller root diameter and vessel diameter, thicker cortex thickness, higher root cortex thickness-to-diameter ratio and higher root activity. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that, deeper roots, root anatomy and root activity are important traits in selecting wheat cultivars that maintain yield under low water conditions. Therefore, wheat crop development and breeding to improve grain yield should also consider optimizing root anatomy and improving root activity while promoting deep root development. Cable-driven manipulators find applications in medical care, housekeeping services, and various other scenarios. However, the flexible joints of cable-driven manipulators exhibit rigid-flexible coupling characteristics, posing challenges for their modeling and accurate control. In this paper, a cable-driven serial-parallel manipulator is analyzed, and the rigidflexible coupling characteristics and dynamic modeling of its flexible joints are studied. Based on the coupling problem between joint flexibility deformation and end motion of the manipulator, a rigid-flexible coupling dynamics model was established. Through derivation of the coupling matrix, the coupling factor was defined to characterize the influence of flexible joint deformation on end motion of the manipulator. Finally, the dynamics coupling factor was simulated, and the influence of the joint cable-wheel reduction ratio and the end load on rigid-flexible characteristics of the manipulator was revealed, which lays a theoretical basis for the accurate control of cable-driven manipulators. Cloud products from geostationary satellites are the main alternative to surface synoptic cloud observations (SYNOP), and have become the baseline products for the development and construction of the Quality Management System (QMS) of integrated meteorological observation in China. This study addresses the needs of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) for such an operational reform, and it is carried out using real-time observations obtained from the Fengyun-2E (FY-2E) geostationary satellite in 2012 to derive cloud total amount and classification using two different methods. Compared to surface SYNOP observations, the cloud total amount estimated by FY-2E is generally significantly lower (about 30% lower on average). The cloud classification resulting from the two methods used in this study is also significantly different from the classification obtained from surface observations (difference between 22 and 32%). Recommender systems have been widely used for implementing personalised content on many mobile online services to reduce computational overload and preserve wireless data for users. The underlying mechanisms used for building recommender systems analyse data collected from users to make recommendations. This poses concerns over the privacy of data from users as both service providers and the cloud will have access. Privacy-preserving recommender systems protect user information by incorporating various cryptographic mechanisms to prevent accessing the data. However, existing works are not practical due to the use of heavy cryptography. In this paper, we propose an efficient privacy-preserving recommender system that takes advantage of clustering to improve efficiency. Using a secure clustering mechanism, user data are assigned to multiple clusters before being fed into the recommendation. Our proposed protocols are privacy-preserving and do not leak information that could be used to identify a data subject. The experiments show that our system is efficient and accurate. Business operations have entered the digital era in which artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and blockchain (BKC) have emerged as major disruptive forces. In AI and ML, deep learning is a critical area. In this paper, we aim to investigate how deep learning and BKC together can help improve business operations. We first examine the operations research (OR) literature related to the applications of deep learning for business operations. Then, we discuss the prior studies on using BKC for operations. After that, we explore deep learning's applications for BKC, BKC's applications for deep learning as well as how deep learning and BKC have been used together for business operations. The study aims to search and identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in cervical cancer tissues as novel biomarkers to predict cervical cancer prognosis. The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data on gene expression profiles in cervical cancer were downloaded and analyzed using R software to identify DEGs in cervical cancer tissues. miRNAs targeted by differentially expressed long non-coding RNAs (DElncRNAs) and mRNAs targeted by microRNAs (miRNAs) were identified using the online miRcode, miRTarBase, TargetScan, and miRDB tools. The ceRNA network and lncRNA expression modules in cervical cancer tissues were constructed using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and analyzed bioinformatically. The Kaplan–Meier analysis was performed to confirm these DEGs as prognostic markers. Immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis was used to verify expression of the hub genes in 10 paired cervical cancer and normal tissues. A total of 1914 DEmRNAs, 210 DElncRNAs, and 67 DEmiRNAs were identified in cervical cancer samples. There were 39 lncRNAs, 19 miRNAs, and 87 mRNAs involved in the ceRNA network and 25 DElncRNAs, three DEmiRNAs, and four mRNAs involved in the ceRNA sub-network. CACNA1C-AS1 was associated with the yellow and blue modules in the ceRNA sub-network, and LIFR-AS1 was associated with the blue module. The DEmRNAs were involved in cancer-related pathways, and three hub genes (i.e., E2F1, CCNB1, and CCNE1) were highly expressed in cervical squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma tissues and associated with the prognosis of patients. Forest musk deer (Moschus berezovskii) is one of the most endangered medicinally important wild animals in the world. Forest musk deer farming is the main way of production of musk. However, the single provenance and lack of genetic information lead to reduced genetic diversity of forest musk deer. Therefore, more SSR markers need to be developed to identify forest musk deer germplasm. In this study, bone marrow derived mesenchymal cells were used to construct cDNA library for transcriptome sequencing. The datasets were de novo assembled and annotated. 9 polymorphic simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers were finally identified and used to detect population genetic diversity. 6.07 Gb clean data were generated using Illumina sequencing technology, and de novo assembled into 138,591 transcripts and 81,553 unigenes. 5,777 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were identified, in which there were 578 repeating motif types, with mono-nucleotide and tri-nucleotides comprising 55.88% and 25.60%, respectively. 100 primer pairs were designed to validate amplification and polymorphism using DNA from fecal samples. 9 polymorphic SSRs were developed and used to detect population genetic diversity of 122 forest musk deer in 2 farms. The average number of alleles per locus varied from 4 to 15 (average = 8.3). The observed heterozygosity (HO) per locus ranged from 0.102 to 0.941, while the expected heterozygosity (HE) per locus was from 0.111 to 0.651. All loci deviated significantly from the Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium (p < 0.001). The polymorphism information content (PIC) of these loci varied from 0.108 to 0.619. 9 polymorphic SSR markers were developed in this research. Background: With the improvements in laparoscopic or robotic surgical techniques and instruments, a growing number of surgeons have attempted to complete all digestive tract reconstruction intracorporeally; these procedures include totally robotic gastrectomy (TRG) and totally laparoscopic gastrectomy (TLG). This study aimed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of the TRG and compare the short-term outcomes of the TRG and TLG in patients with gastric cancer. Methods: Between January 2018 and June 2023, 346 consecutive patients who underwent TRG or TLG at a high-volume academic gastric cancer specialty center were included. 1:1 propensity score matching (PSM) was performed to reduce confounding bias. The surgical outcomes, postoperative morbidity, and surgical burden were compared in PSM cohort. Results: After PSM, a well-balanced cohort of 194 patients (97 in each group) was included in the analysis. The total operation time of the TRG group was significantly longer than that of the TLG group (244.9 vs. 213.0 min, P < 0.001). There was no significant difference in the effective operation time between the 2 groups (217.8 vs. 207.2 min, P = 0.059). The digestive tract reconstruction time of the TRG group was significantly shorter than that of the TLG group (39.4 vs. 46.7 min, P < 0.001). The mean blood loss in the TRG group was less than that in the TLG group (101.1 vs. 126.8 mL, P = 0.014). The TRG group had more retrieved lymph nodes in the suprapancreatic area than that in the TLG group (16.6 vs 14.2, P = 0.002). The TRG group had a lower surgery task load index (38.9 vs. 43.1, P < 0.001) than the TLG group. No significant difference was found in terms of postoperative morbidity between the 2 groups (14.4% vs. 16.5%, P = 0.691). Conclusion: This study demonstrated that TRG is a safe and feasible procedure, and is preferable to TLG in terms of invasion and ergonomics. Craniosynostosis refers to the premature fusion of one or more of the fibrous cranial sutures connecting the bones of the skull. Machine learning (ML) is an emerging technology and its application to craniosynostosis detection and management is underexplored. This systematic review aims to evaluate the application of ML techniques in the diagnosis, severity assessment, and predictive modeling of craniosynostosis. A comprehensive search was conducted on the PubMed and Google Scholar databases using predefined keywords related to craniosynostosis and ML. Inclusion criteria encompassed peer-reviewed studies in English that investigated ML algorithms in craniosynostosis diagnosis, severity assessment, or treatment outcome prediction. Three independent reviewers screened the search results, performed full-text assessments, and extracted data from selected studies using a standardized form. Thirteen studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the review. Of the thirteen papers examined on the application of ML to the identification and treatment of craniosynostosis, two papers were dedicated to sagittal craniosynostosis, five papers utilized several different types of craniosynostosis in the training and testing of their ML models, and six papers were dedicated to metopic craniosynostosis. ML models demonstrated high accuracy in identifying different types of craniosynostosis and objectively quantifying severity using innovative metrics such as metopic severity score and cranial morphology deviation. The findings highlight the significant strides made in utilizing ML techniques for craniosynostosis diagnosis, severity assessment, and predictive modeling. Predictive modeling of treatment outcomes following surgical interventions showed promising results, aiding in personalized treatment strategies. This study investigates the collision mechanisms within particle-block systems, which are crucial for enhancing barrier designs intended to safeguard infrastructure from the impacts of debris flows. The study used Leighton Buzzard sand (LBS) grains and smooth glass beads (SGB) as simulants for debris flow particles to carry out impact tests, incorporating a novel laboratory technique that applies clay mineral coatings to simulate weathering effects on these particles. Additionally, comparative tests involving chrome steel balls (CSB) and rough glass beads (RGB) were conducted to evaluate the influence of particle properties on the collision behavior. The experiments focused on concrete barriers of varied strengths (the concrete grades include C25, C50, and C75), examining energy loss and the coefficient of restitution (COR). Findings indicated that energy dissipation occurred through the brittle to elastoplastic deformation of micro-asperities on SGB and LBS surfaces, with microparticle layers contributing to increased plastic energy loss in weathered grains. Notably, the redirection and rotation of irregularly shaped natural particles post-impact underscored significant mechanisms of energy redistribution. The concrete blocks with a lower compressive strength (C25) displayed greater surface plastic deformation, resulting in heightened energy dissipation and reduced COR. The study not only validated but also refined the impact force model in particle-block systems, proving its efficacy in predicting impact behaviors. Key message: Extensive and comprehensive phenotypic data from a maize RIL population under both low- and normal-Pi treatments were used to conduct QTL mapping. Additionally, we integrated parental resequencing data from the RIL population, GWAS results, and transcriptome data to identify candidate genes associated with low-Pi stress in maize. Phosphorus (Pi) is one of the essential nutrients that greatly affect the maize yield. However, the genes underlying the QTL controlling maize low-Pi response remain largely unknown. In this study, a total of 38 traits at both seedling and maturity stages were evaluated under low- and normal-Pi conditions using a RIL population constructed from X178 (tolerant) and 9782 (sensitive), and most traits varied significantly between low- and normal-Pi treatments. Twenty-nine QTLs specific to low-Pi conditions were identified after excluding those with common intervals under both low- and normal-Pi conditions. Furthermore, 45 additional QTLs were identified based on the index value ((Trait_under_LowPi–Trait_under_NormalPi)/Trait_under_NormalPi) of each trait. These 74 QTLs collectively were classified as Pi-dependent QTLs. Additionally, 39 Pi-dependent QTLs were clustered in nine HotspotQTLs. The Pi-dependent QTL interval contained 19,613 unique genes, 6,999 of which exhibited sequence differences with non-synonymous mutation sites between X178 and 9782. Combined with in silico GWAS results, 277 consistent candidate genes were identified, with 124 genes located within the HotspotQTL intervals. The transcriptome analysis revealed that 21 genes, including the Pi transporter ZmPT7 and the strigolactones pathway-related gene ZmPDR1, exhibited consistent low-Pi stress response patterns across various maize inbred lines or tissues. It is noteworthy that ZmPDR1 in maize roots can be sharply up-regulated by low-Pi stress, suggesting its potential importance as a candidate gene for responding to low-Pi stress through the strigolactones pathway. Objective: To comprehensively summarize the existing evidence on the effectiveness of vaginal microbiota transplantation (VMT) in treating vaginal dysbiosis (VD) and bacterial vaginosis (BV). Methods: Following the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, a scoping review was conducted through October 10, 2023, using the databases PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang, SinoMed, Weipu (VIP), ClinicalTrials.gov and the Chinese clinical trial registry. Results: A total of 12 studies were included, of which 7 were published (comprising 3 human and 4 animal studies), and 5 were ongoing registered trials (human). Of the published human studies involving 36 women, one focused on VD, and two investigated BV. These studies reported that VMT restored the Lactobacillus-dominated vaginal microbiota, alleviating symptoms. In animal studies with 145 female rats or mice, VMT was explored for one case of VD and three cases of BV, demonstrating a reduction in the expression of IL-1β and TNF-α. Additionally, two of the animal studies also indicated an increase in the number of Lactobacilli following VMT. The ongoing registered trials involved 556 women, with two focusing on VD and three targeting BV. Conclusions: VMT shows promise in restoring the Lactobacillus-dominated vaginal microbiota among women with VD or BV. Moreover, animal studies have indicated an increase in the number of Lactobacilli and a decrease in the expression of IL-1β and TNF-α following VMT.
