Avoiding financial losses requires preventing catastrophic oil‐filled power transformer breakdowns. Continuous online transformer monitoring is needed. The authors use paper insulation to evaluate transformer health for continuous online transformer monitoring. The study suggests a new artificial intelligence method for estimating paper insulation residual life in oil‐immersed power transformers. The four artificial intelligence models use backpropagation‐based neural networks to predict paper insulation lifespan. Four primary transformer insulating paper failure indices—degree of polymerisation, 2‐furfuraldehyde, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide—form the basis of these models. Each model, including the backpropagation‐based neural networks, estimates paper insulation life using one failure index, along with moisture and temperature data. Optimisation techniques enhance hidden layer neurons and epoch count for improved performance. Results are validated against literature‐based life models, establishing a precise input–output correlation. This method accurately predicts the remaining useable life of power transformer paper insulation, enabling utilities to take proactive measures for safe and efficient transformer operation. In this paper, a Hopfield‐type neural network system with Caputo–Hadamard fractional derivative is discussed. The importance of the existence of the equilibrium point in the analysis of artificial neural networks is well known. Another important investigation is the stability properties. So, the stability of a neural network system is dealt with in the present paper. First, a theorem that asserts the existence and uniqueness of the equilibrium point of the system is proven. Later, the conditions that ensure the Mittag‐Leffler stability of the equilibrium point is obtained by using the Lyapunov's direct method. The present review paper addresses the increasing interest in the application of machine learning (ML) algorithms in the assessment of the fatigue response of additively manufactured (AM) metal alloys. This review aims to systematically collect, categorize, and analyze relevant research papers in this domain. The most commonly used ML algorithms are presented, discussing their specific relevance to the fatigue modeling of AM metal alloys. A detailed analysis of the most relevant input features used in the literature to predict the main parameters related to the fatigue response is provided. Each work has been analyzed to highlight its strengths and peculiarities, thereby offering insights into novel methodologies and approaches for addressing critical challenges within this field. Particular attention is dedicated to the role of defects and the related size‐effect, as they strongly influence the fatigue response. The significant risk associated with fault reactivation often necessitates slip tendency analyses for effective risk assessment. However, such analyses are challenging, particularly in large areas with limited or absent reliable stress measurements and where the cost of extensive geomechanical analyses or simulations is prohibitive. In this paper, we propose a novel approach using a physics‐informed neural network that integrates stress orientation and satellite displacement observations in a top‐down multi‐scale framework to estimate two‐dimensional slip tendency analyses even in regions lacking comprehensive stress data. Our study demonstrates that velocities derived from a continental scale analysis, combined with reliable stress orientation averages, can effectively guide models at smaller scales to generate qualitative slip tendency maps. By offering customizable data selection and stress resolution options, this method presents a robust solution to address data scarcity issues, as exemplified through a case study of the South Australian Eyre Peninsula. Visual information is important in final approach and landing phases for an approaching aircraft, it presents supplementary source for navigation system, and provides backup guidance when radio navigation fails, or even supports a complete vision‐based landing. Relative position and attitude can be solved from the runway features in the image. Traditional runway detection methods have high latency and low accuracy, which is unable to satisfy the requirements for a safe landing. This paper proposes a real‐time runway detection model, efficient runway feature extractor (ERFE), based on deep convolutional neural network, generating semantic segmentation and feature lines output. In order to evaluate the model's effectiveness, a benchmark is proposed to calculate the actual error between predicted feature line and ground truth one. A novel runway dataset which is based on pictures from Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (FS2020), is also proposed in this paper to train and test the model. Background: Humans often use co‐speech gestures to promote effective communication. Attention has been paid to the cortical areas engaged in the processing of co‐speech gestures. Aims: To investigate the neural network underpinned in the processing of co‐speech gestures and to observe whether there is a relationship between areas involved in language and gesture processing. Methods & Procedures: We planned to include studies with neurotypical and/or stroke participants who underwent a bimodal task (i.e., processing of co‐speech gestures with relative speech) and a unimodal task (i.e., speech or gesture alone) during a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) session. After a database search, abstract and full‐text screening were conducted. Qualitative and quantitative data were extracted, and a meta‐analysis was performed with the software GingerALE 3.0.2, performing contrast analyses of uni‐ and bimodal tasks. Main Contribution: The database search produced 1024 records. After the screening process, 27 studies were included in the review. Data from 15 studies were quantitatively analysed through meta‐analysis. Meta‐analysis found three clusters with a significant activation of the left middle frontal gyrus and inferior frontal gyrus, and bilateral middle occipital gyrus and inferior temporal gyrus. Conclusions: There is a close link at the neural level for the semantic processing of auditory and visual information during communication. These findings encourage the integration of the use of co‐speech gestures during aphasia treatment as a strategy to foster the possibility to communicate effectively for people with aphasia. Power line inspection is an important means to eliminate hidden dangers of power lines. It is a difficult research problem how to solve the low accuracy of power line inspection based on deep neural network (DNN) due to the problems of multi‐view‐shape, small‐size object. In this paper, an automatic detection model based on Feature visual clustering network (FVCNet) for power line inspection is established. First, an unsupervised clustering method for power line inspection is proposed, and applied to construct a detection model which can recognize multi‐view‐shape objects and enhanced object features. Then, the bilinear interpolation method is used to Feature enhancement method, and the enhanced high‐level semantics and low‐level semantics are fused to solve the problems of small object size and single sample. In this paper, FVCNet is applied to the MS‐COCO 2017 data set and self‐made power line inspection data set, and the test accuracy is increased to 61.2% and 82.0%, respectively. Background: Accurate segmentation of lung nodules is crucial for the early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer in clinical practice. However, the similarity between lung nodules and surrounding tissues has made their segmentation a longstanding challenge. Purpose: Existing deep learning and active contour models each have their limitations. This paper aims to integrate the strengths of both approaches while mitigating their respective shortcomings. Methods: In this paper, we propose a few‐shot segmentation framework that combines a deep neural network with an active contour model. We introduce heat kernel convolutions and high‐order total variation into the active contour model and solve the challenging nonsmooth optimization problem using the alternating direction method of multipliers. Additionally, we use the presegmentation results obtained from training a deep neural network on a small sample set as the initial contours for our optimized active contour model, addressing the difficulty of manually setting the initial contours. Results: We compared our proposed method with state‐of‐the‐art methods for segmentation effectiveness using clinical computed tomography (CT) images acquired from two different hospitals and the publicly available LIDC dataset. The results demonstrate that our proposed method achieved outstanding segmentation performance according to both visual and quantitative indicators. Conclusion: Our approach utilizes the output of few‐shot network training as prior information, avoiding the need to select the initial contour in the active contour model. Machine learning as a data‐driven solution has been widely applied in the field of fatigue lifetime prediction. In this paper, three models for wideband fatigue life prediction are built based on three machine learning models, that is, support vector regression (SVR), Gaussian process regression (GPR), and artificial neural network (ANN). All the three prediction models use the parameter b of the well‐known Tovo–Benasciutti (TB) model as their outputs to realize fatigue life prediction and their generalization abilities are enhanced by employing numerous power spectrum samples with different bandwidth parameters and a variety of material properties related to fatigue life. Sufficient Monte Carlo numerical simulations demonstrate that the newly developed machine learning models are superior to the traditional frequency‐domain models in terms of life prediction accuracy and the ANN model has the best overall performance among the three developed machine learning models. Conversational assistants (CAs) and Task‐oriented ones, in particular, are designed to interact with users in a natural language manner, assisting them in completing specific tasks or providing relevant information. These systems employ advanced natural language understanding (NLU) and dialogue management techniques to comprehend user inputs, infer their intentions, and generate appropriate responses or actions. Over time, the CAs have gradually diversified to today touch various fields such as e‐commerce, healthcare, tourism, fashion, travel, and many other sectors. NLU is fundamental in the natural language processing (NLP) field. Identifying user intents from natural language utterances is a sub‐task of NLU that is crucial for conversational systems. The diversity in user utterances makes intent detection (ID) even a challenging problem. Recently, with the emergence of Deep Neural Networks. New State of the Art (SOA) results have been achieved for different NLP tasks. Recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and Transformer architectures are two major players in those improvements. RNNs have significantly contributed to sequence modelling across various application areas. Conversely, Transformer models represent a newer architecture leveraging attention mechanisms, extensive training data sets, and computational power. Medical image colouring techniques enable to colourize grey‐scale medical images for assisting doctors in diagnosis. Benefiting from the non‐linear fitting ability of deep neural network, deep medical image colouring techniques have achieved remarkable results. However, existing methods are still facing content and structure feature leakage, unrealistic colouring and poor scale invariability. Thus, this paper, proposes a Transformer‐based medical image colouring algorithm with long‐term dependency to avoid feature leakage of coloured images. To be specific, this method employs two different Transformer encoders to generate and encode feature sequences for grey‐scale medical images and real human colour slice images, respectively. Then, a novel multi‐layer Transformer decoder is used to stylize grey‐scale map image features based on the real physical colour feature sequences. For colouring images at different scales, we implement content‐ aware positional encoding with scale invariance and propose style‐aware positional encoding strategy to take realistic and physical colour prior into account. Owing to the necessity of high computation amounts has emerged, interest in a neuromorphic computing system has significantly increased as a compelling alternative to conventional CMOS technology. This paper presents a neuromorphic hardware algorithm to finely reconfigure multi‐input signal processing, which can be implemented as an advanced processor for diverse external information, and the hydrogen explosion risk assessment system is demonstrated as a proof of concept. Hydrogen concentration and temperature are used as sensory inputs for the signal integration and the precise values of them are determined by offsetting the effect of temperature on the electrical signal from the hydrogen sensor through a sensor circuit. Each signal is then updated by the weight control circuit and converted into a postsynaptic current to represent the hydrogen explosion risk using a multi‐input artificial synapse. This simplicity of the circuitry renders the fabrication of all components and circuits compatible with simple inkjet printing methods, enabling cost‐effective and high‐throughput manufacturing. Deep learning‐based models have become ubiquitous across a wide range of applications, including computer vision, natural language processing, and robotics. Despite their efficacy, one of the significant challenges associated with deep neural network (DNN) models is the potential risk of copyright leakage due to the inherent vulnerability of the entire model architecture and the communication burden of the large models during publishing. So far, it is still challenging for us to safeguard the intellectual property rights of these DNN models while reducing the communication time during model publishing. To this end, this paper introduces a novel approach using knowledge distillation techniques aimed at training a surrogate model to stand in for the original DNN model. To be specific, a knowledge distillation generative adversarial network (KDGAN) model is proposed to train a student model capable of achieving remarkable performance levels while simultaneously safeguarding the copyright integrity of the original large teacher model and improving communication efficiency during model publishing. Herein, comprehensive experiments are conducted to showcase the efficacy of model copyright protection, communication‐efficient model publishing, and the superiority of the proposed KDGAN model over other copyright protection mechanisms. Various mainstream target tracking algorithms based on Siamese networks are gradually becoming a trend in the field of deep learning tracking due to their concurrent advantages of accuracy and speed. Most Siamese network‐based trackers describe the tracking of a target object as a similar matching problem, and these trackers have achieved more advanced performance in several public tests. Most trackers often suffer from tracking drift or performance degradation owing to the non‐updating of the template in the first frame and the target appearance encounters disturbing environments such as occlusion and drastic deformation. Therefore, to address this problem, this paper introduces a template updating mechanism and proposes a refine structure network based on the template updating of Siamese networks as well as the greater similarity of target features in two adjacent frames, which improves the tracking accuracy while limiting the amount of computation using an anchor‐free method in order not to lose the tracking speed, and only needs to be trained by selecting the most suitable pre‐training network, thus greatly reducing the amount of network computation. Meanwhile, in the application of the refine structure, with the aim of making the weight design of the target localisation module more reasonable, we propose a new Refine Head section and analyze and design the update threshold to optimize the overall network. This method is practiced in SiamFC++ algorithm, which firstly designs the template refine module, inputs the image that needs to be improved, and then outputs it to the Refine Head to complete the template update and applies it to the tracking of the subsequent frames, thereby constituting the SiamTRN (Template‐Refine Network). Summary Deep learning (DL)‐based channel estimation for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with index modulation (OFDM‐IM) under Rayleigh fading channel conditions is presented in this paper. A deep neural network (DNN) is utilized to estimate the channel response in simulations. The proposed DNN is trained using the channel coefficient derived through the least squares (LS) method. Then channel estimation is conducted using the trained DNN. Within the DNN, the long short‐term memory (LSTM) layer is included as the hidden layer. Different scenarios are handled in simulations and the proposed DNN is compared with traditional channel estimation methods. The solution of inverse problems is of fundamental interest in medical and astronomical imaging, geophysics as well as engineering and life sciences. Recent advances were made by using methods from machine learning, in particular deep neural networks. Most of these methods require a huge amount of data and computer capacity to train the networks, which often may not be available. Our paper addresses the issue of learning from small data sets by taking patches of very few images into account. We focus on the combination of model‐based and data‐driven methods by approximating just the image prior, also known as regularizer in the variational model. We review two methodically different approaches, namely optimizing the maximum log‐likelihood of the patch distribution, and penalizing Wasserstein‐like discrepancies of whole empirical patch distributions. From the point of view of Bayesian inverse problems, we show how we can achieve uncertainty quantification by approximating the posterior using Langevin Monte Carlo methods. We demonstrate the power of the methods in computed tomography, image super‐resolution, and inpainting. Indeed, the approach provides also high‐quality results in zero‐shot super‐resolution, where only a low‐resolution image is available. Due to the insufficient feature learning ability and the bloated network structure, the gear fault diagnosis methods based on traditional deep neural networks always suffer from poor diagnosis accuracy and low diagnosis efficiency. Therefore, a small channel convolutional neural network under the multiscale fusion attention mechanism (MSFAM‐SCCNN) is proposed in this paper. First, a small channel convolutional neural network (SCCNN) model is constructed based on the framework of the traditional AlexNet model in order to lightweight the network structure and improve the learning efficiency. Then, a novel multiscale fusion attention mechanism (MSFAM) is embedded into the SCCNN model, which utilizes multiscale striped convolutional windows to extract key features from three dimensions, including temporal, spatial, and channel‐wise, resulting in more precise feature mining. Finally, the performance of the MSFAM‐ SCCNN model is verified using the vibration data of tooth‐broken gears obtained by a self‐designed experimental bench of an ammunition supply and delivery system. Extracting the desired information from sensor data with various internal and external effects is a significant challenge in sensor applications. Difficult‐to‐control factors such as temperature, humidity, and sample position can significantly affect the stability and reliability of sensor data. In this paper, a deep learning‐based glucose sensing method that is robust to variations in sample position is proposed. It is shown that the variations in sample position affect the sensor data measured by the designed split ring resonator‐based microwave sensor. Then, artificial neural network and 1D convolutional neural network (CNN) models are evaluated for extracting glucose concentration information from the sensor data measured at random sample positions. The concentration of the glucose solution ranged from 1% to 23% (2% increments). The 1D CNN with all frequencies (0.5–18 GHz) of the and datasets outperformed the other model, with a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.695% and a mean squared error (MSE) of 0.876 evaluated via cross‐validation. The study demonstrated that the sensor system can be applied in real life by performing fruit Brix estimation based on transfer learning of the previous 1D CNN network, and the MAE and MSE are 0.450% and 0.305, respectively. Microgrids play a pivotal role in modern power distribution systems, necessitating precise control methodologies to tackle challenges such as performance instability, especially during islanding operations. This paper introduces an advanced control strategy that employs artificial intelligence, specifically deep neural network (DNN) predictions, to enhance microgrid performance, particularly in an islanding mode where voltage and frequency (VaF) deviations are critical concerns. By utilizing real‐time data and historical trends, the proposed controller accurately forecasts power demand and generation patterns, enabling proactive planning and optimization of efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in microgrid management. One significant aspect of this approach is to establish an intelligent distributed control system that minimizes reliance on communication devices while ensuring that VaF remains within acceptable limits. Moreover, it consolidates the roles of primary and secondary controllers within the microgrid and facilitates the prediction of load changes and load injection processes. This capability significantly reduces microgrid VaF deviations, enhancing system performance through precise power distribution and balanced coordination among distributed generators. Background: Peer assessment has played an important role in large‐scale online learning, as it helps promote the effectiveness of learners' online learning. However, with the emergence of numerical grades and textual feedback generated by peers, it is necessary to detect the reliability of the large amount of peer assessment data, and then develop an effective automated grading model to analyse the data and predict learners' learning results. Objectives: The present study aimed to propose an automated grading model with reliability detection. Methods: A total of 109,327 instances of peer assessment from a large‐scale teacher online learning program were tested in the experiments. The reliability detection approach included three steps: recurrent convolutional neural networks (RCNN) was used to detect grade consistency, bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT) was used to detect text originality, and long short‐term memory (LSTM) was used to detect grade‐text consistency. Furthermore, the automated grading was designed with the BERT‐RCNN model. Results and Conclusions: The effectiveness of the automated grading model with reliability detection was shown. For reliability detection, RCNN performed best in detecting grade consistency with an accuracy rate of 0.889, BERT performed best in detecting text originality with an improvement of 4.47% compared to the benchmark model, and LSTM performed best with an accuracy rate of 0.883. Moreover, the automated grading model with reliability detection achieved good performance, with an accuracy rate of 0.89. Compared to the absence of reliability detection, it increased by 12.1%. Implications: The results strongly suggest that the automated grading model with reliability detection for large‐scale peer assessment is effective, with the following implications: (1) The introduction of reliability detection is necessary to help filter out low reliability data in peer assessment, thus promoting effective automated grading results. (2) This solution could assist assessors in adjusting the exclusion threshold of peer assessment reliability, providing a controllable automated grading tool to reducing manual workload with high quality. (3) This solution could shift educational institutions from labour‐intensive grading procedures to a more efficient educational assessment pattern, allowing for more investment in supporting instructors and learners to improve the quality of peer feedback. Many approaches have been developed to efficiently allocate resources; however, these methods are currently limited by things like user collision, strange traffic networks, and high data transmission error rates. To address these constraints, this paper proposes a policy‐configured reinforcement learning‐based ad hoc network (AHN) model. To obtain the ideal policy configuration for the network, the system first models the cognitive radio (CR) network, in which nodes are initialised and grouped employing the Link Reliability K‐Means clustering Algorithm (LR‐KMA). The available spectrum was then detected and separated into multiple bands utilizing coherent‐based detection (CBD) and signal source identification employing the Parzen–Rosenblatt Window‐based Restricted Boltzmann Machine (PRW‐RBM). Next, the learning model for the resource allocation process employs the Weibull Distribution‐based Blue Monkey Optimization (WD‐BMO) approach to pick the relevant bands. Finally, the experimental results were analyzed in order to evaluate the proposed resource allocation model's performance in CRAHNs. When compared with previous findings, the proposed method improves resource utilization by 5%, the proposed model achieves a 7% higher throughput, and the PRW‐RBM's accuracy improves classification accuracy by 1.07%. Summary: Non‐orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is an efficient technology for future wireless communication systems. The resource management on NOMA networks is flattering for improving energy efficiency (EE) of systems. Therefore, self‐attention convolutional neural network (SACNN) optimized with Remora Optimization Algorithm (ROA) for energy aware resource management in NOMA network (SACNN‐ROA‐EE) is proposed in this paper for solving user allocation, channel allocation, and power allocation problems. The Matching‐Coalition approach is considered to face the user allocation issue, and the SACNN is considered to face the channel allocation and power allocation problems. SACNN does not adopt any optimization methods to determine the optimal parameters in channel allocation and power allocation. Therefore, the ROA is applied to optimize the SACNN weight parameters. The proposed technique is activated in MATLAB, and its efficacy is analyzed with under performances metrics, such as minimum user rate, sum rate, energy, and spectral performance. The proposed SACNN‐ROA‐EE attains 24.35%, 27.84%, and 38.58% better sum rate and 27.45%, 43.28%, 30.56% better EE compared with existing methods, such as EE utilizing communication deep neural network optimized with power allocation optimization (PAO‐CDNN‐EE), EE under deep transfer deterministic policy gradient along deep deterministic policy gradient approach (DPPGA‐DTDPPG‐EE), and EE utilizing deep reinforcement learning with baseline algorithms (BA‐DRL‐EE), respectively. Deep learning and metaheuristic algorithms have recently increased in various sciences, including financial accounting information systems (FAISs). However, the existence of large datasets has dramatically increased the complexity of these hybrid networks, so to address this shortcoming, this paper aims to develop a quantum‐behaved chimp optimization algorithm (QCHOA) and deep neural network (DNN) for the prediction of the profit based on FAISs. Considering that there is no suitable dataset for the challenge, a novel dataset is developed utilizing the 15 features from the Chinese market dataset to compare more. This work designs QCHOA and five DNN‐based predictors to forecast profit. These algorithms include the universal learning CHOA (ULCHOA), the niching CHOA (NCHOA) as the two best‐modified versions of CHOA, the quantum‐behaved whale optimization algorithm (QWOA), and the quantum‐behaved grey wolf optimizer (QGWO) as the two best quantum‐behaved optimizers as well as classic CHOA. The most effective deep learning‐based predictors for forecasting the profit, ranked from highest to lowest, are DNN‐QCHOA, DNN‐NCHOA, DNN‐QWOA, DNN‐QGWO, DNN‐ULCHOA, DNN‐CHOA, and classic DNN, with corresponding ranking scores of 42, 36, 30, 24, 18, 12, and 6. This paper trains a multilayered neural network (MLNN) for solving fractional delay differential equations (FDDEs), including nonlinear and singular types. The proposed methodology involves replacing the unknown functions in the equations with a truncated power series expansion. Subsequently, a collection of algebraic equations is solved utilizing an iterative minimization technique that leverages the capabilities of the MLNN architecture. The cost for covering active power losses makes a significant item in transmission system operators (TSO) annual budgets, and still it received limited attention in the existing literature. The focus of accurate power loss forecasting and procurement is of high increase during the past 2 years due to spikes in electricity prices, making the cost of covering the active power losses a dominant factor of TSO operational costs. This paper presents practical aspects of the highly accurate models for transmission loss forecast in the day ahead time frame for the Croatian transmission system. The contributions are two‐fold: 1) Practical insights into usable TSO data are provided, filling a critical research gap and a foundational literature review is established on transmission loss forecasting. 2) A novel method utilizing only electricity transit data as input which outperforms existing practices is presented. For this, several algorithms such as gradient boosted decision tree model (XGB), support vector regressors, multiple linear regression and fully connected feedforward artificial neural networks are developed, and implemented and validated on data obtained from the Croatian TSO. The results show that the XGB model outperforms current TSO model by 32% for 4 months of comparison and TSCNET's commercial solution by 25% during a year‐long testing period. Motivated by the strengths of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the UAV–human collaboration route planning (UHCRP) for intelligent infrastructure inspection is a problem worthy of discussion to help reduce human costs and minimize the risk of noninspected infrastructures under limited resources. To facilitate UHCRP, this paper proposes a novel deep reinforcement learning (DRL)‐based approach to well handle multi‐source uncertain features and constraints at a fast speed. To begin with, UHCRP is mathematically described and reformulated as a dual interdependent deep reinforcement learning (diDRL) framework to reflect real‐world scenarios. Afterward, a novel policy network named the attention‐based deep neural network (A‐DNN) is introduced to learn the route planning decisions for the combinatorial optimization problem. In particular, A‐DNN is made up of an encoder and a dual decoder for UAV and human inspection, where the multi‐head attention mechanism is incorporated to generate richer representations for model performance improvement. Performance of the proposed dual multi‐head attention model (DAM) has been tested in simulations and a real‐world case study regarding wind farm inspection. Results indicate that DAM under the sampling decoding strategy can deliver a high‐quality path plan and show better generalizability for larger scale problem sizes compared to single‐head attention model (SAM), multi‐head attention model (AM), and two baseline models, namely OR‐Tools and genetic algorithm. Moreover, DAM trained by randomly generated data can be directly employed to solve the practical problem with standardization of inputs. Overall, DRL integrates decision‐making for inspection method selection and inspected infrastructure selection, providing adaptive and intelligent inspection path planning for UAV and human in complex and dynamic engineering environments. High‐precision observation of significant wave height (SWH) is crucial for marine research. The Surface Waves Investigation and Monitoring (SWIM) aboard the China France Oceanography Satellite (CFOSAT) provides the ocean wave spectrum that allows for the calculation of the off‐nadir SWH parameters, but there exists a certain bias with the in‐situ SWH values. To improve the accuracy of the SWH calculation bias from the off‐nadir 6°, 8°, 10° wave spectra and the whole combined spectrum, this paper establishes a spatio‐temporal hybrid model that combines convolutional neural network (CNN) and long short‐term memory network (LSTM). Additionally, to further correct bias exhibited under high sea state, we introduce a bias correction module based on deep neural network (DNN) to adjust the SWIM off‐nadir SWH greater than 4 m. The experimental results demonstrate a significant enhancement in the accuracy of corrected SWIM off‐nadir SWH, and the best calibration result is 10° with 0.267 m root mean square error (RMSE), and 0.979 correlation coefficient (R) compared with the ERA5 value. We conducted a comprehensive study and analysis on the performance of the proposed model under different wave heights, extreme sea states, and wind and swell regions. Meanwhile, the buoy and altimeters are leveraged to render further evaluation the RMSE of the corrected SWH is less than 0.5 m. Plain Language Summary: The Surface Waves Investigation and Monitoring (SWIM) on the China France Oceanography Satellite (CFOSAT) provides wave data support for ocean research. However, the significant wave height (SWH) parameter calculated from the SWIM off‐nadir spectra has a certain bias from the real value due to the influence of speckle noise. In order to improve the accuracy of the SWIM off‐nadir SWH parameter, we developed a CNN‐LSTM model and introduced a high sea state bias correction network to improve the accuracy of SWH and achieve the purpose of correction. The analysis evaluated the correction performance across various sea conditions, comparing the corrected SWH data with measurements from altimeters and buoys. The findings demonstrated that the root mean square error of the corrected SWH was consistently below 0.5 m, with a correlation coefficient exceeding 0.940. This underscores the effectiveness of our model in enhancing the precision of nadir SWH data bias from SWIM instruments. This paper presents the deep neural network‐based infinitesimal dipole model using either near‐ or far‐field radiation patterns. Based on the radiating characteristic of an infinitesimal dipole, we generated a data set including near and far field radiation patterns corresponding to the phases of infinitesimal dipoles. We used the data set to train and validate the deep neural network (DNN) model. After checking the statistic of the fit function and the average error in expecting the phases of the infinite dipoles, we conclude that the proposed infinitesimal dipole modeling using DNN is sufficient to predict the characteristics of electromagnetic radiation. Background: Perceptual measures such as speech intelligibility are known to be biased, variant and subjective, to which an automatic approach has been seen as a more reliable alternative. On the other hand, automatic approaches tend to lack explainability, an aspect that can prevent the widespread usage of these technologies clinically. Aims: In the present work, we aim to study the relationship between four perceptual parameters and speech intelligibility by automatically modelling the behaviour of six perceptual judges, in the context of head and neck cancer. From this evaluation we want to assess the different levels of relevance of each parameter as well as the different judge profiles that arise, both perceptually and automatically. Methods and Procedures: Based on a passage reading task from the Carcinologic Speech Severity Index (C2SI) corpus, six expert listeners assessed the voice quality, resonance, prosody and phonemic distortions, as well as the speech intelligibility of patients treated for oral or oropharyngeal cancer. A statistical analysis and an ensemble of automatic systems, one per judge, were devised, where speech intelligibility is predicted as a function of the four aforementioned perceptual parameters of voice quality, resonance, prosody and phonemic distortions. Outcomes and Results: The results suggest that we can automatically predict speech intelligibility as a function of the four aforementioned perceptual parameters, achieving a high correlation of 0.775 (Spearman's ρ). Furthermore, different judge profiles were found perceptually that were successfully modelled automatically. Conclusions and Implications: The four investigated perceptual parameters influence the global rating of speech intelligibility, showing that different judge profiles emerge. The proposed automatic approach displayed a more uniform profile across all judges, displaying a more reliable, unbiased and objective prediction. The system also adds an extra layer of interpretability, since speech intelligibility is regressed as a direct function of the individual prediction of the four perceptual parameters, an improvement over more black box approaches. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: What is already known on this subject: Speech intelligibility is a clinical measure typically used in the post‐treatment assessment of speech affecting disorders, such as head and neck cancer. Their perceptual assessment is currently the main method of evaluation; however, it is known to be quite subjective since intelligibility can be seen as a combination of other perceptual parameters (voice quality, resonance, etc.). Given this, automatic approaches have been seen as a more viable alternative to the traditionally used perceptual assessments. What this study adds to existing knowledge: The present work introduces a study based on the relationship between four perceptual parameters (voice quality, resonance, prosody and phonemic distortions) and speech intelligibility, by automatically modelling the behaviour of six perceptual judges. The results suggest that different judge profiles arise, both in the perceptual case as well as in the automatic models. These different profiles found showcase the different schools of thought that perceptual judges have, in comparison to the automatic judges, that display more uniform levels of relevance across all the four perceptual parameters. This aspect shows that an automatic approach promotes unbiased, reliable and more objective predictions. What are the clinical implications of this work?: The automatic prediction of speech intelligibility, using a combination of four perceptual parameters, show that these approaches can achieve high correlations with the reference scores while maintaining a certain degree of explainability. The more uniform judge profiles found on the automatic case also display less biased results towards the four perceptual parameters. One important goal of cognitive science is to understand the mind in terms of its representational and computational capacities, where computational modeling plays an essential role in providing theoretical explanations and predictions of human behavior and mental phenomena. In my research, I have been using computational modeling, together with behavioral experiments and cognitive neuroscience methods, to investigate the information processing mechanisms underlying learning and visual cognition in terms of perceptual representation and attention strategy. In perceptual representation, I have used neural network models to understand how the split architecture in the human visual system influences visual cognition, and to examine perceptual representation development as the results of expertise. In attention strategy, I have developed the Eye Movement analysis with Hidden Markov Models method for quantifying eye movement pattern and consistency using both spatial and temporal information, which has led to novel findings across disciplines not discoverable using traditional methods. By integrating it with deep neural networks (DNN), I have developed DNN+HMM to account for eye movement strategy learning in human visual cognition. The understanding of the human mind through computational modeling also facilitates research on artificial intelligence's (AI) comparability with human cognition, which can in turn help explainable AI systems infer humans' belief on AI's operations and provide human‐centered explanations to enhance human−AI interaction and mutual understanding. Together, these demonstrate the essential role of computational modeling methods in providing theoretical accounts of the human mind as well as its interaction with its environment and AI systems. Web service composition (WSC), a distributed architecture, creates new services atop existing ones. Ensuring trust and assessing performance and dependability in online services coordination is essential. In this paper, "Web Service Reliability and Scalability Determination Using Depth Wise Separable Convolutional Neural Network" (WSRS‐DWSCNN) is proposed to assess the trustworthiness of online service compositions, particularly focusing on performance and dependability. This work addresses the need to predict the reliability and scalability of Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) composite web services. The proposed approach transforms the BPEL specification into a Depth Wise Separable Convolutional Neural Network (DWSCNN) and annotates it with probabilistic properties for prediction. The DWSCNN model classifies the outcomes as correct or incorrect, and to enhances the prediction of web service composition scalability and reliability, we optimize the DWSCNN's weight parameters using the Adolescent Identity Search Algorithm (AISA). The proposed technique is activated in Python and its efficacy is analyzed under some metrics, such as reliability, scalability, accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, precision, F‐measure. The proposed method provides 12.36%, 45.39%, and 25.97% better reliability, 41.39%, 11.39%, 34.16% better accuracy compared with existing methods like, Web service reliability prediction depending on machine learning (WSRS‐K‐means), reliability prediction method for multiple state cloud/edge‐basis network utilizing deep neural network (WSRS‐DNN‐BO), and improving reliability of mobile social cloud computing utilizing machine learning in content addressable network (WSRS‐CAN), respectively. This paper compares a classic digital image processing approach to trace particles in laboratory x‐ray micro‐computed tomography (µCT), which is based on a combination of random sample consensus (RANSAC) algorithm and least squares ellipse fitting (LSF), with an approach based on artificial neural networks (ANNs). In order to be able to perform the comparison, dynamic experiments were carried out in a laboratory microtomography facility. During active scans with a duration of 30–75 s several sedimentation experiments have been carried out with an exposure time of 0.13 s/projection. Through the movement of the particles during the scan curved motion artefacts in the reconstructed data occur, where the vertex marks the coordinate of the particle. It could be shown that both approaches enable the tracing of particles in laboratory x‐ray µCT with deviations from a manually evaluated result of exemplarily 1.25% for the conventional digital image processing (CDIP) and 0.48% for the ANN. It was found that ANNs are able to identify particle positions in non‐symmetrical motion artefacts, appearing around the first and last position of the particles in the scan, allowing an extension of the motion range of the particles that can be evaluated. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages. Due to the high complexity and size as well as partly black box structures of neural networks, they are not 100% comprehensible whereas conventional image processing is 100% transparent and understandable. But because of the complexity of the tracing of particles, the CDIP code offers many parameters that can be set, which is why the application is therefore slightly more complex. The surface texture of asphalt pavement has a significant effect on skid resistance performance. However, its contribution to the performance of skid resistance is non‐homogeneous and subjects to local validity. There are also a few deep learning models that take into account the effective contact texture region. This paper proposes a convolutional neural network model based on the effective contact texture region, containing macro‐ and micro‐scale awareness sub‐modules. In this study, the asphalt mixture with varying gradations was designed to accurately obtain the effective contact texture region. Then, the textures were disentangled into macro‐ and micro‐texture scales by applying the fast Fourier transform and fed into the model for training. Finally, the area of effective contact texture region was calculated, and the effective contact ratio parameter was then proposed using the triangulation algorithm. The results showed that the effective contact texture area of pavement varies by the asphalt mixture type. The effective contact ratio parameter exhibited a significant positive correlation (Pearson correlation coefficient is 0.901, R2= 0.8129) with skid resistance performance and was also influenced by key sieve aggregate content from 2.36 to 4.75 mm. The data of effective contact texture region following disentanglement significantly released the model performance (the relative error dropped to 1.81%). The model exhibited improved precision and performance, which can be utilized as an efficient, non‐contact alternative method for skid resistance analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the utilization of artificial neural networks (ANNs) in learning models that address the nonlinear anisotropic flow and hysteresis retention behavior of deformable porous materials. Herein, the micro‐geometries of various networks of porous Bentheimer Sandstones subjected to several degrees of strain from the literature are considered. For the generation of the database required for the training, validation, and testing of the machine learning (ML) models, single‐phase and biphasic lattice Boltzmann (LB) simulations are performed. The anisotropic nature of the intrinsic permeability is investigated for the single‐phase LB simulations. Thereafter, the database contains the computed average fluid velocities versus the pressure gradients. In this database, the range of applied fluid pressure gradients includes Darcy as well as non‐Darcy flows. The generated output from the single‐phase flow simulations is implemented in a feed‐forward neural network, representing a path‐independent informed graph‐based model. Concerning the two‐phase LB simulations, the Shan‐Chen multiphase LB model is used to generate the retention curves of the cyclic drying/wetting processes in the deformed porous networks. Consequently, two different ML path‐dependent approaches, that is, 1D convolutional neural network and the recurrent neural network, are used to model the biphasic flow through the deformable porous materials. A comparison in terms of accuracy and speed of training between the two approaches is presented. Conclusively, the outcomes of the papers show the capability of the ML models in representing constitutive relations for permeability and hysteretic retention curves accurately and efficiently. Deep learning has achieved unprecedented success in recent years. This approach essentially uses the composition of nonlinear functions to model the complex relationship between input features and output labels. However, a comprehensive theoretical understanding of why the hierarchical layered structure can exhibit superior expressive power is still lacking. In this paper, we provide an explanation for this phenomenon by measuring the approximation efficiency of neural networks with respect to discontinuous target functions. We focus on deep neural networks with rectified linear unit (ReLU) activation functions. We find that to achieve the same degree of approximation accuracy, the number of neurons required by a single‐hidden‐layer (SHL) network is exponentially greater than that required by a multi‐hidden‐layer (MHL) network. In practice, discontinuous points tend to contain highly valuable information (i.e., edges in image classification). We argue that this may be a very important reason accounting for the impressive performance of deep neural networks. We validate our theory in extensive experiments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The development of fragility curves is an important step in seismic risk assessment within the scope of performance‐based earthquake engineering. The goal of this work is to use machine learning methods (regression‐based tools) to forecast the large‐span precast parking structural responses and fragility curves. This study proposes five predicting models based on machine learning to evaluate the seismic performance of the large‐span precast parking structures, including: neural networks, genetic algorithm‐based neural networks, support vector machine, decision tree and random forest. A database that includes 453 numerical synthetic results was used to train and test the machine learning models. The seismic performance of large‐span precast parking structures were predicted using the constructed machine learning models. Finally, the sensitivity analysis of input parameters was conducted. From this paper we can conclude that: (1) the genetic optimization‐based neural networks' predicting model has the most accurate predictive ability for seismic fragility estimation and (2) the structural responses and the fragility curves of parking structures are related to the differences of the stiffness of the connectors and the number of floors, of which the stiffness of the connectors should be given special attention. In recent years, research on infrared and visible image fusion has mainly focused on deep learning‐based approaches, particularly deep neural networks with auto‐encoder architectures. However, these approaches suffer from problems such as insufficient feature extraction capability and inefficient fusion strategies. Therefore, this paper introduces a novel image fusion network to address the limitations of infrared and visible image fusion networks with auto‐encoder architectures. In the designed network, the encoder employs a multi‐branch cascade structure, and these convolution branches with different kernel sizes provide the encoder with an adaptive receptive field to extract multi‐scale features. In addition, the fusion layer incorporates a non‐local attention module that is inspired by the self‐attention mechanism. With its global receptive field, this module is used to build a non‐local attention fusion network, which works together with the l1${l}_1$‐norm spatial fusion strategy to extract, split, filter, and fuse global and local features. Machine learned fault detection approaches are being increasingly used for fault detection in distribution grid. However, the performance of the models can be improved by customizing the models. In this regard, a customised artificial neural network (CANN) for fault detection in a distribution grid is proposed in this paper. The proposed work develops a CANN that combines the "up‐pyramid" and "down‐pyramid" model of ANN into a "custom‐pyramid" model. As a result, the same model can be used both for determining the types of fault as well as its location. The data needed to train the model has been taken from a reconfigured IEEE‐33 bus distribution system developed in Typhoon HIL real‐time simulator. Spectral‐kurtosis is utilized for extraction of features of the faulted transient signals which are used as input data to develop the CANN. The result showcases that the reduction of input features reduces computational complexity without compromising its accuracy. The proposed model classifies fault location with an accuracy of 95.43%. The proposed method also identifies fault type with an accuracy of 96.08%. Several test cases have been developed to test the method. The method proved to be able to perform in most of the cases. The driver authority decision for driver‐initiated takeover is closely related to vehicle driving safety. In this paper, a lateral driver‐automation driver authority decision method considering the safety of the intended functionality is proposed to improve vehicle driving safety. Based on systems‐theoretic processes analysis, functional safety analysis of driver initiative takeover is carried out to clarify the safety of the intended functionality issues caused by the unreasonable decision. Then, a method for defining the safe driving area is developed to assess the safety level of the driving area around the ego vehicle. Taking the driver‐vehicle state parameters and vehicle–vehicle state parameters as input, a deep neural network model is constructed to determine the intention of the driver to take over the vehicle. The lateral driver‐automation driver authority decision method is designed to make the driver‐machine take‐over decisions, which considers the safety of the intended functionality. The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated via numerical simulation and hardware‐in‐the‐loop experiments. The results show that the designed method not only improves the control ability of the driver to the maximum extent but also integrates the perception ability of the driver into the vehicle control system to improve further vehicle driving safety. High‐angle cameras are commonly used for trajectory data collection in transportation research. However, without refinement and validation, trajectory data obtained through video processing software may be unreliable, inaccurate, or incomplete. This paper focuses on a critical issue in the field of trajectory data acquisition and analysis—there is still no reliable and fully vetted trajectory dataset in the research community. The current practice for validating video‐based trajectory can be classified as indirect methods and direct methods. Indirect methods of trajectory validation use algorithms to efficiently correct data anomalies without human intervention but may overlook detailed driving behaviors, whereas direct methods involve meticulous manual verification to preserve data fidelity but are labor‐intensive and less scalable. The spatial‐temporal maps (STMaps) method offers an additional layer of verification to affirm the accuracy and reliability of trajectory data. To enhance the performance, the deep spatial‐temporal embedding model is proposed for trajectory instance segmentation on STMaps using the contrastive learning framework. The parity constraints at both pixel and instance levels guide the deep neural network to learn the embedding spaces that can be built on different backbone networks. The reconstructed Next Generation Simulation (NGSIM) highway dataset trajectory dataset is thoroughly validated against manually processed ground truth, and the error‐free NGSIM data are refined to be a reliable resource for transportation research based on car‐following behaviors, lane‐change frequency, consistency, and jerk value measurements. The reliable design of multiphase micro‐structured apparatus requires a precise knowledge of the internal flow regime. Previous research indicated that classifiers based on artificial neural networks (ANN) are relatively simple to develop and provide a reasonable accuracy when trained with data for specific inlet designs. This paper introduces advanced ANN classifiers capable of predicting all relevant flow regimes regardless of the inlet design with a recall of 94 % and above for Taylor, churn, dispersed, rivulet, and parallel flows, between 89 % and 94 % for annular and bubbly flows, and 83 % for Taylor‐annular flow. In order to balance accuracy and real‐time performance in semantic segmentation, this paper proposes a real‐time semantic segmentation algorithm model based on attention mechanism and multi‐branch feature fusion using Fast convolutional neural network model (Fast‐SCNN). In this method, the spatial detail feature enhancement branch is introduced to enhance spatial detail features firstly. Then, through rational design of fusion module, the feature information of each branch is optimized to achieve better fusion of deep and shallow features. At the end of the feature fusion module, an adaptive feature enhancement focus module is introduced to capture the interdependence between remote pixels. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves 71.55% segmentation accuracy on Cityscapes dataset, the reasoning speed FPS is 97.6 frames/s, and the number of parameters is 1.39 M, which verifies the effectiveness of the network model constructed by the algorithm. This paper aims to explore machine learning techniques for post‐processing high‐resolution Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) products for the early detection of convection. Data from the Arome Ensemble Prediction System and satellite observations from the Rapidly Developing Thunderstorm (RDT) product by Météo‐France are used to train a recurrent neural network model to predict areas of total convection and moderate convection. The learning task is formulated as a binary classification problem using a long short‐term memory (LSTM) network architecture. Results from the LSTM model are compared with an object‐based probabilistic approach to forecast convection using metrics such as a receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve, the Brier score and reliability. Results indicate that the LSTM model performs similarly to the object‐based probabilistic benchmark when classifying moderate convection areas and shows improved skill when classifying areas of total convective. Finally, the LSTM model results are presented within an air traffic management context to showcase the potential use of machine learning models within an operational application. Interpreting a seemingly simple function word like "or," "behind," or "more" can require logical, numerical, and relational reasoning. How are such words learned by children? Prior acquisition theories have often relied on positing a foundation of innate knowledge. Yet recent neural‐network‐based visual question answering models apparently can learn to use function words as part of answering questions about complex visual scenes. In this paper, we study what these models learn about function words, in the hope of better understanding how the meanings of these words can be learned by both models and children. We show that recurrent models trained on visually grounded language learn gradient semantics for function words requiring spatial and numerical reasoning. Furthermore, we find that these models can learn the meanings of logical connectives and and or without any prior knowledge of logical reasoning as well as early evidence that they are sensitive to alternative expressions when interpreting language. Finally, we show that word learning difficulty is dependent on the frequency of models' input. Our findings offer proof‐of‐concept evidence that it is possible to learn the nuanced interpretations of function words in a visually grounded context by using non‐symbolic general statistical learning algorithms, without any prior knowledge of linguistic meaning. Purpose: The macular ganglion cell layer (mGCL) is a strong potential biomarker of axonal degeneration in multiple sclerosis (MS). For this reason, this study aims to develop a computer‐aided method to facilitate diagnosis and prognosis in MS. Methods: This paper combines a cross‐sectional study of 72 MS patients and 30 healthy control subjects for diagnosis and a 10‐year longitudinal study of the same MS patients for the prediction of disability progression, during which the mGCL was measured using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Deep neural networks were used as an automatic classifier. Results: For MS diagnosis, greatest accuracy (90.3%) was achieved using 17 features as inputs. The neural network architecture comprised the input layer, two hidden layers and the output layer with softmax activation. For the prediction of disability progression 8 years later, accuracy of 81.9% was achieved with a neural network comprising two hidden layers and 400 epochs. Conclusion: We present evidence that by applying deep learning techniques to clinical and mGCL thickness data it is possible to identify MS and predict the course of the disease. Intelligent rice disease recognition methods based on deep neural networks can predict the degree of disease on the basis of, for example, the number of disease spots on an image, so that preventive measures can be taken. Currently, intelligent recognition methods for rice diseases suffer from the disadvantages of poor versatility and low accuracy. This paper uses eight common image classification networks to classify and identify four rice diseases. ResNet50 was selected as the feature extraction network and an enhanced feature fusion and target adaptive network (EFFTAN), referred to as EFFTAN, is proposed. The EFFTAN was used to detect four rice spot diseases in the rice leaf disease image samples dataset; the mean average precision of the final detection was 95.3%, and effective detection was also achieved for the dense spot features. Many test coverage metrics have been proposed to measure the deep neural network (DNN) testing effectiveness, including structural coverage and nonstructural coverage. These test coverage metrics are proposed based on the fundamental assumption: They are correlated with test effectiveness. However, the fundamental assumption is still not validated sufficiently and reasonably, which brings question on the usefulness of DNN test coverage. This paper conducted a revisiting study on the existing DNN test coverage from the test effectiveness perspective, to effectively validate the fundamental assumption. Here, we carefully considered the diversity of subjects, three test effectiveness criteria, and both typical and state‐of‐the‐art test coverage metrics. Different from all the existing studies that deliver negative conclusions on the usefulness of existing DNN test coverage, we identified some positive conclusions on their usefulness from the test effectiveness perspective. In particular, we found the complementary relationship between structural and nonstructural coverage and identified the practical usage scenarios and promising research directions for these existing test coverage metrics.
