Radio stations are seriously affected by transmission line reradiation interference, but most of the existing methods for analyzing and solving reradiation interference on transmission lines focus on approximating the physical problem through mathematical models and algorithms, and it is difficult to study the correlation between transmission lines and reradiation interference in depth. This paper introduces the characteristic mode theory to study the influence factors of reradiation interference on transmission lines, which can decompose the surface induced current of transmission lines into a series of mutually orthogonal mode currents. This paper verifies the correctness of applying the MS (mode significance) value of the characteristic mode theory to analyze the reradiation interference through a simple transmission line example. Taking a line with 5 towers as an example, by analyzing the characteristic mode currents of transmission lines with different forwarding angles and linear arrangements, we not only verified that the characteristic mode currents can well characterize the reradiation interference, but also verified that the characteristic currents of different modes have a direct connection with the structure of the line, which can be applied in the process of designing or reconstructing the towers of the transmission lines, to predict the influence of different structural parameters on electromagnetic scattering, so as to optimize the tower design to reduce the reradiation interference effects and thus optimize the tower design to reduce reradiation interference. © 2024 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan and Wiley Periodicals LLC. Abstract: A wide band flexible substrate based metamaterial is presented. The metamaterial is fabricated on photo paper using conductive nanoparticle ink targeting flexibility applications. The metamaterial structure shows a wide double negative region of 1.848 GHz (8.298–10.146 GHz). The transmission coefficient of the proposed metamaterial has been measured and verified with simulated one. The coupling capacitance between the line and the transducer cannot be ignored when making non‐contact voltage measurements on low‐voltage three‐phase power lines. This leads to an increase in the number of unknown capacitances, and the number of correlatable response voltage equations is less than the number of unknown coupling capacitances. In this paper, a simplified decoupling method is proposed based on the characteristics of triangular three‐phase lines erected in distribution areas. Firstly, the equivalent circuit measured by the voltage sensing mechanism during three‐phase operation is established, and the three‐phase line response voltage equation is derived. Secondly, this paper proposes a three‐phase line response voltage decoupling algorithm after designing the decoupling matrix. Then, this paper uses the least squares method to solve the coefficients in the equations. Finally, the three‐phase voltage fluctuations of the actual low‐voltage stations are simulated by simulation. The measured sensor voltage values are substituted into the algorithm to invert and calculate the three‐phase line voltage. The three‐phase phase error is less than 2°. Power line inspection is an important means to eliminate hidden dangers of power lines. It is a difficult research problem how to solve the low accuracy of power line inspection based on deep neural network (DNN) due to the problems of multi‐view‐shape, small‐size object. In this paper, an automatic detection model based on Feature visual clustering network (FVCNet) for power line inspection is established. First, an unsupervised clustering method for power line inspection is proposed, and applied to construct a detection model which can recognize multi‐view‐shape objects and enhanced object features. Then, the bilinear interpolation method is used to Feature enhancement method, and the enhanced high‐level semantics and low‐level semantics are fused to solve the problems of small object size and single sample. In this paper, FVCNet is applied to the MS‐COCO 2017 data set and self‐made power line inspection data set, and the test accuracy is increased to 61.2% and 82.0%, respectively. ABSTRACT Two key components, among several, in the design of a conformal antenna are the planar conductors and the flexible substrates. In this paper, a new approach of using graphene-based conductors instead of copper conductors in the design of a conformal antenna is presented. To determine the conductivity properties of the graphene-based conductor, the copper conductors in a well-known micro-strip transmission line (TL) and micro-strip antenna were replaced with the graphene-based conductors and were analytically evaluated, simulated in a full-wave simulation software and experimentally tested. Overall, it was shown that these graphene-based conductors have a conductivity that is high enough to design a useful micro-strip TL and micro-strip antenna. This paper presents various control strategies to improve operations in two interconnected areas connected by a VSC‐HVDC transmission line. The main focus is on designing a central control system (CCS) that coordinates control units in both areas. In area 1, an AC voltage control unit is connected to the CCS. In area 2, three control units including a load power control unit, a fault detection unit, and an AC voltage control unit are also connected to the CCS. The CCS receives inputs from these units and generates commands for the DC voltage and active/reactive power control units on both sides of the DC line. The first proposed strategy addresses permanent voltage drops caused by load fluctuations in area 2. It adjusts the transmitted power from area 1 based on voltage variations in area 2. The second strategy focuses on mitigating faults in area 2 by injecting active and reactive power from area 1 during such events. The third strategy resolves transient voltage oscillations in both areas by controlling the reactive power of stations on either side of the DC line. In monitoring transmission line external damage prevention, due to the limited memory computing power of the equipment, the image needs to be transmitted to the data center at regular intervals, resulting in a high false negative rate. Therefore, this paper proposes a target detection method based on lightweight YOLOv5s. First, DSConv and improved E‐ELAN are used in Backbone to reduce the model's parameters. Then, GSConv and VoV‐GSCSP are introduced in Neck to reduce the complexity of the model. Finally, the Mish activation function achieves more effective feature transfer. According to the experimental findings, the proposed model's parameters are about 37% smaller than the original model's, and the calculation amount is about 53% smaller. The detection accuracy on the self‐built data set is the same, which proves that the proposed algorithm can reduce the model while maintaining high detection performance. This paper proposes a new methodology for sensitivity analysis evaluation, fast and with high precision of the electric potential distribution near the transmission lines (TL's). The TL is modeled by the finite element method and the sensitivity of the cable positions is obtained using the adjoint method. The sensitivity of the objective function during the optimization process by using methods based on gradient information is obtained by using the adjoint method. The exact sensitivity obtained by the adjoint method concerning the numeric model of the TL's results in new geometries of the bundles conductors with high surge impedance loading. These geometries are not possible to get using analytic models. The sensitivities of a large number of conductors by phase are obtained with high precision and very low computational cost using adjoint sensitivities, which are independent of the number of design variables. The central finite difference method is used to calculate the sensitivities and to validate the adjoint method. Summary: Maintaining proper current sharing among distributed generation (DG) units while regulating the output voltage is a challenging control issue in DC microgrids. The conventional droop control is widely used at the primary level of control to tackle this issue, but this method faces some limitations in voltage control and current sharing. To address this problem, this paper presents a new distributed secondary control method that determines the resistance of transmission lines by injecting an external pulse to the reference voltage of each converter and measuring output voltage and current changes. The proposed secondary control signal, denoted as Ui, enables simultaneous proportional current sharing and voltage restoration in the DC microgrid by correcting the droop coefficients based on the determined resistances. In order to ensure the stability of the proposed method, the small signal stability analysis of the closed‐loop system is conducted, considering various parameter changes. In contrast to similar methods, the proposed method introduces a new hybrid technique of voltage setpoint shifting and droop parameter adjustment that achieves precise proportional current sharing and voltage restoration, even when faced with varying resistive loads and constant power loads (CPLs). Additionally, the proposed method demonstrates outstanding characteristics, such as high convergence speed, the ability to determine transmission line resistances instead of assuming them to be known, and robustness in plug‐and‐play scenarios and communication system failures. The application of distributed sensors in smart transmission lines to replace traditional inspection methods is an inevitable trend. Currently, the challenge of energy supply for sensors serves as a bottleneck that hinders the intelligent development of transmission lines. This paper focuses on the application of self‐powered inspection technology based on triboelectric and electromagnetic mechanisms in transmission lines. It proposes a self‐powered temperature and vibration monitoring and warning system (STV‐MWS) for multi‐parameter monitoring of transmission line status. This work utilizes the quasi‐zero stiffness structure and center misalignment design to improve the output performance of STV‐MWS at low vibration amplitude, thereby extending its vibration amplitude response range. The STV‐MWS is capable of harvesting and monitoring vibration of 50 µm and above vibration amplitude and 2–700 Hz vibration frequencies, which fully covers the breeze vibration range of transmission lines. Through the split package design, the flexible deployment of STV‐MWS is achieved, further enhancing its engineering application value. This work can effectively ensure that the transmission line inspection can carry out accurate status monitoring and intelligent analysis in the environment characterized by steep terrain, challenging power extraction, and difficult fault judgment, thereby realizing the visualization and intelligence of the transmission line status. A miniaturized microstrip grid array antenna (MGAA) in X‐band is proposed in the paper. The antenna consists of a radiation grid array, a feed network and a metal back cavity. The 2 × 2 planar grid array is constructed by using four MGAAs as subarrays. MGAA does not require complex feeders in contrast to microstrip patch arrays. Furthermore, a curved slow‐wave transmission line (SWTL) is adopted as the long side of grid. The SWTL not only reduces the physical size of the grid while keeping its electrical size unchanged, but also improves the impedance matching and greatly broaden the bandwidth of the antenna. A fabricated prototype was measured in the microwave chamber. The results indicate that the impedance matching band of |S11| < −10 dB is from 9 to 10.5 GHz (15.4%), and the maximum gain is 19.2 dBi. This paper simulates and measures a compact broadband rectifier for voltage doubler Schottky diode. Among them, a two‐stage microstrip line impedance matching network for voltage doubling circuits is used. The imaginary part of the diode impedance is limited by the short‐circuit branch. The impedance conversion transmission line matches the impedance to 50 Ω. The impedance matching in the circuit is only realized by two‐stage microstrip lines, which reduces the physical size of the rectifier and makes the rectifier more compact. Judging the measurement results from 0.8 to 2.5 GHz, the conversion efficiency is greater than 30% at 0 dBm, the bandwidth is 103%, and the maximum conversion efficiency reaches 66.3% at 8 dBm. The leakage current characteristic monitoring of transmission line insulators is considered a worthy technique for insulator state prediction. In this paper, the harmonic analysis of leakage current signals has been performed to analyze the composite insulator condition. Experimental studies of asymmetrically aged, fully aged, and virgin insulators have been conducted. The effects of different aging types, pollution, and humidity on leakage current components, such as harmonics and the phase differences with the applied voltage, have been investigated. The analysis of the results shows that the effect of asymmetric aging on leakage current components is non‐linear, and this non‐linearity increases with the degree of pollution. Also, the type of insulator aging can be determined by the ratio of the third‐ and fifth‐order leakage current harmonics. For instance, the classification of insulators into virgin, asymmetrically aged, and fully aged can be determined by examining the corresponding value ranges of 0–0.5, 0.5–0.9, and > 0.9, respectively. This paper proposes a new multistage AC model for transmission expansion planning that finds an optimal combination of transmission lines, fault current‐limiting high‐temperature superconducting cables, and multiple distributed generations (DGs). On this basis, the proposed model, from a new perspective, allows for simultaneous improvement of the short‐circuit level and grid‐scale flexibility (GFLX) under both normal and fault conditions. The objective function to be minimized includes not only the net present worth of the total investment and operation costs but also the congestion‐induced GFLX degradation measure. This model also takes the AC power balance and flow relationships, equipment capacity limits, nodal voltage bounds, DG penetration level limit, as well as discrete logical and financial restrictions together into account with the short‐circuit level constraint. To overcome the complexity of solving the resultant non‐convex mixed‐integer non‐linear optimization problem, a multi‐objective integer‐coded melody search algorithm is employed, followed by a fuzzy satisfying decision‐making mechanism to obtain the final optimal solution. The exhaustive case studies conducted on the IEEE 24‐ and 118‐bus test systems verify the efficacy of the newly developed model in terms of cost‐effectiveness, flexibility, and short‐circuit level suppression when facing different normal and fault conditions. A machine learning‐based optimized droop method is suggested here to simultaneously reduce the production cost (PC) and power line losses (PLL) for a class of direct current (DC) microgrids (MGs). Traditionally, a communication‐less technique known as the hybrid droop method has been employed to decrease PC and PLL in DC MGs. However, achieving the desired reduction in either PC or PLL requires arbitrary adjustments of weighting coefficients for each distributed generator in the conventional hybrid droop method. To address this challenge, this paper introduces a systematic approach that capitalizes on the benefits of artificial intelligence to accurately predict both the PC and PLL in a DC MG. Furthermore, an optimization technique relying on the gradient descendent method is employed to independently optimize both PC and PLL for each scenario. The effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed through a comparative study with classical and hybrid droop coordination schemes under various scenarios such as rapid load changes. This paper proposes contributions to the efficient wave digital (WD) modeling of large oscillator networks which are emerging as energy‐efficient alternatives to traditional computers. The WD concept enables in‐operando parameter tuning, real‐time testing, and the associated algorithms are highly parallelizable. We present a general electrical model of N‐shaped nonlinearities that are commonly found in nonlinear oscillators. Our model offers the flexibility to design the current–voltage characteristic based on specific requirements. We show how this model can be used to derive efficient and explicit WD algorithms for nonlinear oscillators. Furthermore, we propose the use of lossless transmission lines between the oscillators and the coupling network to obtain an ideal circuit for an oscillator network that can function as an Ising machine and be efficiently and exactly evaluated in the WD domain. The proposed algorithms are compared against the classical method involving iterative techniques, and their capabilities are evaluated through the emulation of a single FitzHugh‐Nagumo oscillator as well as an Ising machine involving transmission lines. The paper presents a ground fault location algorithm (GFLA) in double‐circuit transmission lines (DCTL) with a T‐off connection to an industrial microgrid (IMG) containing electric arc furnaces (EAF), renewable distributed generations (RDG), and static VAR compensator (SVC). The design presented utilizes the information on the current and voltage phasors of one side of the transmission lines (TL) during the fault period, and there is no need for the availability of information on the type of faulty phase(s) and even the faulty section. To find the exact location of the fault in this design, the voltage phasor equations governing the fault point in positive, negative, and zero‐sequence (PNZS) domains, the zero‐sequence current (ZSC) equation of the fault point, and the boundary condition equation of the fault point have been used. The simulation system is implemented in Simulink/MATLAB using accurate modelling of all network components. The algorithm has been tested and evaluated in different fault conditions, including various locations, phase types, phase‐to‐ground connection resistance, occurrence time, and microgrid (MG) operation modes. Combining edge devices with intelligent inspection for transmission lines can fulfill the demand for real‐time defect detection in the field. However, there has been limited research on algorithms suitable for edge devices with low computational power and memory, and the existing research primarily focuses on CPU optimization. To address these issues, this paper proposes a real‐time defect detection method for transmission line endpoints based on YOLO‐GSS (YOLOv8 with Mosaic‐9, G‐GhostNet, S‐FPN, and Spatial Intersection over Union (SIoU) modifications). First, the authors improve the input of the YOLOv8 network using Mosaic‐9 to increase the number of input features in the training phase and enhance algorithm robustness. Next, the authors introduce G‐GhostNet and S‐FPN to enhance the backbone and neck sections while improving inference speed and accuracy. Finally, the authors modify the Complete Intersection over Union loss function of YOLOv8 using SIoU to further improve the detection accuracy. Experimental results demonstrate that compared to the original YOLOv8, the proposed method achieves a 5x increase in inference speed on Nvidia Jetson NX edge devices and a 7.7% improvement in accuracy, meeting the real‐time defect detection requirements for transmission line field inspections. Affected by inverter station commutation failure and fast control, line fault characteristics are obviously different from traditional AC transmission line fault characteristics. The existing protection methods for AC line connected to line commutated converter based high voltage DC (LCC‐HVDC) inverter station (ACLs) have the problems of complex setting, weak anti‐noise and high demand for data synchronization. This paper proposes a pilot protection scheme based on high‐frequency transient current waveform similarity. Firstly, with analyzing the fault traveling wave propagation process, the obvious differences are found in the transient current waveforms at both ends of the line when internal and external faults occur. Then the similarity of transient current waveforms is measured with the improved longest common similar subsequence (LCSS) method. And the weak high‐frequency current is extracted with the improved synchronous squeezed S‐transform (SST) method. Finally, a large number of power systems computer aided design (PSCAD) simulation results show that the proposed protection method does not require strict data synchronization, has strong anti‐noise performance, and is tolerant to the influence of abnormal point fluctuations. In this paper, a genetic‐based synthesis approach for an impedance matching section based on a composite right‐/left‐handed (CRLH) transmission line model called CRLH transmission line impedance matching section (CRLHTLIMS) in viewpoint of transmission phase shift and noise figure is newly presented. To find the unknown values of right‐/left‐handed inductances and capacitances of a CRLHTLIMS, a type of global optimization algorithm called continuous parameter genetic algorithm is used. The length, transmission phase shift, and noise figure of the CRLHTLIMS are computed by using simple equations. Different examples for a uniform CRLHTLIMS are given. According to the results, this approach is an easy and effective way for the synthesis of transmission line impedance matching sections in viewpoint of transmission phase shift and noise figure. Power line insulator defect identification usually suffers from complex backgrounds, small defect target sizes, and inconspicuous defect features. Traditional identification methods based on image processing, image analysis, and pattern classification have many limitations in solving the aforementioned problems. In recent decades, deep learning classification methods have gradually replaced traditional identification methods in the task of power line insulator defect identification. To accurately identify the locations of insulator defects, this paper proposes an insulator defect detection algorithm using an improved lightweight YOLOv4‐tiny network (ILYTN). First, the CBL (Conv‐BN‐LeakyReLU) modules of the backbone network are replaced with MobileViT blocks to enhance the feature extraction capability of the backbone network. Second, coordinate attention (CA) is introduced in the feature fusion part to improve the network's ability to focus on the location of defects. Finally, an EIOU (efficient intersection over union) loss function, instead of the original CIOU loss function, is used so that the convergence speed of the network can be improved. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in this paper, the mViT‐yolo algorithm is compared with the mainstream Faster‐RCNN algorithm, SSD algorithm, YOLOv3 algorithm, and YOLOv4‐tiny algorithm. The experimental results show that the algorithm proposed in this paper outperforms all the above algorithms in terms of detection accuracy. Compared with the traditional YOLOv4‐tiny algorithm, the proposed algorithm increases the mean average precision (mAP) by 1.64%, the average precision (AP) of missing insulator defects by 0.32%, and the average precision (AP) of broken insulator defects by 4.96%. © 2023 The Authors. The YOLO series of algorithms have made substantial contributions to the detection of insulator defects in power transmission line operations. However, existing target detection algorithms for the small target detection and low‐quality insulator images encounter difficulties in effectively capturing relevant features, resulting in a higher probability of target loss. To identify and classify defects in the operational state of insulators, an improved YOLOv8 target identification algorithm called DGW‐YOLOv8 is proposed in this paper. The deformable attention backbone of the DGW‐YOLOv8 target identification algorithm is designed by adding the deformable ConvNets v2 module and the global attention mechanism. This addition reduces the feature loss caused by the network feature processing, enhances the sensitivity of the algorithm to small‐scale targets, and reduces the impact caused by the different global positions of the targets. Additionally, to address the problem of low quality of captured images, WIoU v3 is used to replace CIoU in the original YOLOv8 target identification algorithm to optimize the loss function, reduce the degrees of freedom, and improve the network robustness. Experimental results demonstrate that the enhanced YOLOv8 algorithm can achieve an improvement of 2.4% and 5.5% in mAP and mAP50‐95, respectively, compared with the original algorithm. Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) are very popular in the industrial market. Recently, robots are installed to compensate for the shortage of labor. Due to the increase in motors, the number of power lines and position sensor cable wiring are increased; this increase in complicated wiring is a problem. As a method to solve these problems, power superimposition technology in the power line of a PMSM is expected to reduce the distribution cables. In this paper, the power superposition technology method, and circuit equations of mounting transformers in power lines are presented and are then verified by experiment, simulation, and linear analysis. The circuit equation is proposed as a three‐phase circuit equation, which is transformed into a dq‐circuit equation by a transformation matrix. The characteristics of the electric angular frequency versus the dq‐axis voltage demonstrated satisfactory results, with errors within 1% in linear analysis and simulation. The linear analysis and experiment are shown to be similar, although there are some errors. The validity of the circuit equations could be demonstrated by the verification results. This paper studies the equivalent transmission line model of the pulsed electro‐acoustic (PEA) method with its applications. Based on the consistency of acoustic wave behaviour inside lossy acoustic materials and voltage wave propagation in transmission line, an equivalent simulation model of the PEA system is developed, whose reliability is verified by the output from the transducer and amplifier models and the comparison with measured waveforms. For the problem of acoustic impedance mismatch between different modules, simulation indicates that the unequal impedances of semiconducting electrode and sample can affect the amplitude of the measured signal at the upper electrode side, and the reflected acoustic waves caused by the transducer can affect the charge waveform. Further simulation for multi‐layer materials finds that the reflected acoustic waves of different samples and sound absorbing module can superimpose on the charge signal. Accordingly, a selection criterion is proposed to avoid the effect of the reflected waves at the interface. As for the acoustic reflection caused by internal charge, it needs to be dealt with sequentially in calibration process, starting from the result inside the sample near ground electrode. The increasing interactivity between energy carrier networks such as electrical, natural gas (NG), and heating can be appropriately used for improving the operation optimality along with overcoming some challenges of those systems. With such a view, this paper studies the practical issue of power transmission lines congestion management in integrated multicarrier energy systems (MCESs) and makes a comparison with the only electrical operation mode. The MCES consisting of electrical and NG network infrastructures with exchanged energy between them is modelled by considering the several local energy hubs and their electrical and heat loads. Rescheduling of energy sources (power plants and gas wells) and demand side management in both electrical and NG networks have been utilized as the two important tools in the developed congestion alleviation framework. The proposed method confirms that the provided flexibility in the integrated operation of the MCESs can lead to a remarkable reduction in the congestion management cost index. Implementing the proposed congestion management framework on an assumed test MCES with a combined 39‐bus New England power system and 20‐node Belgium NG system demonstrates its effectiveness and applicability for the system operators. The issue of power transmission lines congestion management in integrated multi‐carrier energy systems (MCESs) has been studied. This paper presents a new formulation for solving the expansion planning of transmission lines and energy storage systems while considering the integration of electricity and gas networks. The proposed model is a bi‐level stochastic planning model. It involves transmission and battery expansion planning at one level, and gas network modeling at the other. The study addresses the impact of high penetration of renewable resources and security constraints on both the electricity and gas networks within the context of network expansion planning. The proposed model is a stochastic mixed‐integer linear programming model at both levels, and its challenging solution is achieved through reformulation and decomposition methods. Two experimental networks are analyzed: a 6‐node network and the IEEE RTS 24‐bus network for the electricity network, coupled with 5‐node and 10‐node gas network systems. The results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed model. Simulation results indicate that the proposed model is highly effective in scenarios where power and gas network lines are disconnected, preventing load shedding even when the integrated network lines are disconnected. The distribution of transmission lines is complex, influenced by terrain and topography, making their maintenance and management challenging. With the advancement of global mechanization, various types of construction machinery and large‐scale mechanical equipment are continually increasing. Accidental contact of construction machinery near transmission lines poses a serious threat to the stability of the power system. Traditional drones and inspection robots face difficulties in achieving real‐time monitoring of construction machinery and equipment around transmission lines, quickly identifying potential risks. Conventional image processing techniques and convolutional neural networks struggle with effective handling of small targets and densely packed detection tasks involving multiple targets. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an intelligent detection algorithm Swin Transformer attention efficient algorithm‐you only look once (YOLO) (STAE‐YOLO). It is based on the Swin Transformer global self‐attention mechanism, cross‐channel fusion attention mechanism, enhanced small object detection framework, and a focused and efficient regression loss function. The experimental results show that the STAE‐YOLO algorithm model improved by 6.3% in mean average precision, 3.7% in precision, and 3.1% in recall compared to the baseline model. This paper presents a novel scheme to online measure the birefringence of the sensing fiber in all‐fiber optic current transformer (AFOCT) system, which monitors the current on direct current (DC) transmission lines using the Faraday magneto‐optic effect in sensing fibers. In this scheme, by purposefully varying the difference of square‐wave modulated phases via the phase modulator in the AFOCT system, different system transmittances can be obtained. On the basis of the relationship between the system transmittance and linear and circular birefringences, an online measurement scheme of both the linear and circular birefringences of the sensing fibers can be established. In this scheme, the AFOCT system is described by the transmission model based on the Jones matrices, with which the current on DC transmission lines can be measured from the phase shift caused by the Faraday effect. Then, under different square‐wave modulated phases, the system transmittance models are constructed with respect to the linear and circular birefringences of the sensing fiber. For a given sensing fiber with certain linear and circular birefringences, the specific system transmittances are determined and are the curves in space in the respective system transmittance models. Subsequently, these curves in space can be projected onto the coordinate plane composed of the linear and circular birefringence coordinate axes, where the intersection point of the projected plane curves gives the to‐be‐measured values of the linear and circular birefringences of the sensing fiber. The proposed scheme is validated by the preset linear and circular birefringences of the sensing fiber, with different linear birefringences of the polarization‐maintaining fiber. A power line carrier (PLC) communication characteristics‐based method is proposed for single‐phase‐to‐ground fault location in neutral isolated medium voltage meshed distribution networks in this paper. The carrier signals with a time‐varying frequency and constant amplitude are processed by a set of PLC transmitters and receivers, whose placement is optimized by regarding the power network as an undirected graph. Two signal encoding and decoding algorithms for the PLC terminals are proposed to avoid using expensive timing systems between the terminals. The fault location technique is implemented by comparing the cosine similarity of amplitude attenuation and phase offset between the fault and a feature library. The node corresponding to the maximum cosine similarity of the characteristics between the present fault and the library is selected as the location of the current fault. Only one set of low‐cost PLC communication terminals and the widely available power lines are needed in the fault location system, making this approach highly practical. Numerical simulations using MATLAB/Simulink have been performed to verify the technique's feasibility. The results show that the method can accurately locate faults in neutral isolated medium voltage meshed distribution networks. In order to decrease the reradiation interference (RRI) of power transmission lines, aiming at the defects that the existing RRI suppression methods cannot be applied to the constructed power transmission lines, and cannot suppress all the RRI extreme values in the frequency band, this paper innovatively proposes a RRI suppression method based on characteristic mode (CM) theory. Firstly, we briefly introduce the CM theory and decompose the total scattering field into the superposition of the characteristic electric fields; secondly, the influence of inductance and capacitance characteristics of the reactive loads on radiation behavior of the CMs is analyzed, and the ideal position for reactive loading is also discussed to reduce the contribution of CM to the total RRI; finally, a simulation experiment is carried out in AM broadcasting band, and the modal weighting coefficients of main CMs affecting the RRI is greatly reduced in the frequency band by reactive loading. As a representative technique in electronics, the Smith Chart provides a fast, less‐computation, and graphical approach to solve the problems related to impedance matching. In this paper, we transplanted the Smith Chart into the design and analysis of a microwave metamaterial absorber (meta‐absorber) to develop an analytical and graphical approach for impedance matching of electromagnetic wave absorption. Before the structural design, four traces on the Smith Chart plane from the load to arrive at the impedance matching point (the center of the Smith Chart) can be graphically found to obtain perfect absorption. Then, we have designed four impedance matching circuit networks made of resistance, inductance, and capacitive elements and transmission lines to fit the four traces. Then, the matching circuits are mapped into the meta‐absorber structure by using three types of proposed layers. The full simulation method based on the finite element method is used to verify the proposed concept. Furthermore, an external dielectric loading strategy has been developed to achieve good angular stability up to 60° for the radar cross section reduction under transverse electric and transverse mangetic polarization incidence. This paper extends previous work on electromagnetic (EM) reciprocity theorem analysis from the single‐conductor to the more general multiconductor transmission line (MTL) case. The focus is on the EM coupling problem of an ideal MTL above a perfectly electrically conducting ground when excited by a plane wave. The proposed methodology addresses mutual coupling effects and mismatched loads in the MTL. The expression for the current along the MTL in the test (radiation) state is derived, considering these factors. A novel calculation method for the induced voltage at the load is then introduced, assuming consistent coupling between different lines in both test and receiving states. In this paper, a study on the effects of strategically implemented holes in a miniaturized wideband bandpass filter (BPF) utilizing interdigital folded coupled lines is presented. First, the BPF is designed to produce the passband by introducing a fold in the coupled lines. The passband is centered at 9.3 GHz (X‐band), catering to radar applications. Coupled lines connected to a modified U‐shaped transmission line comprise the filter's design configuration. The novelty of the design resides in incorporating drilled holes along the coupled lines, which generate perturbations and resonant effects, resulting in enhanced impedance variations and improved filter performance. With the aid of electromagnetic analysis and simulation software, the coupled lines, U‐shaped transmission lines, and drilled hole diameters are all optimized. Vector Network Analyzer performs all the measurements and draws the comparisons. An increment of 22.58% is seen in return loss as it increases from −24 to −32 dB, and the insertion loss shows an increase of 16.74%. The proposed filter has been subjected to analytical study, simulation, and implementation, which have confirmed its exceptional return loss, favorable insertion loss, and compact dimensions. The research results make a valuable contribution to the development of miniaturized wideband BPFs, specifically focusing on their use in radar systems. In such systems, the ability to accurately and efficiently filter signals is paramount. The de‐embedding calibration method has been proposed to achieve high‐precision calibration for a single port electric field or magnetic field probe, which can effectively eliminate the calibration ripple. However, the method's effectiveness for a four‐port calibration system has not been verified yet. In this paper, a four‐port de‐embedding calibration method with a differential magnetic field probe is proposed, and its effectiveness is proved. Two symmetric grounded coplanar waveguide transmission lines are applied in the proposed method to solve the ABCD‐matrix of the embedded part of the calibrator. The de‐embedded S‐parameter model of the four‐port calibration system for differential magnetic field probe can be obtained. The calibration results indicate that the proposed method can also reduce the calibration ripple and compensate for the attenuation caused by the calibrator. Compared with the traditional calibration method using a microstrip line calibrator, the ripples of the proposed method can be reduced by 34%. The analysis results of the frequency interval of the ripple (FIR) in different methods show that the de‐embedding method can reduce the FIRs (except around 1.2 GHz) caused by the reflection of the calibrator and retain the FIR (about 1.2 GHz) caused by the reflection of the probe itself. In this paper, a collaborative stochastic expansion planning model of cyber‐physical system (CPS) with resilience constraints is proposed. The model can reduce the coupling risk and enhance the resilience under extreme scenarios, from the perspective of the structural/functional coupling between the physical and cyber systems. The model is to collaboratively optimize expansion transmission line siting, expansion communication fibre siting, and service routing distribution to minimize total investment cost. Constraints are divided into conventional constraints and resilience constraints. In the resilience constraints, the impact of cyber failures on the dispatch strategy is analyzed, and the load shedding in stochastic scenarios is limited to guarantee the resilience of the planning scheme. Particularly, to reach a stable solution for the stochastic planning, a mixed scenario set is proposed based on the probabilistic typhoon model and the complex network theory. Finally, the model is solved by the progressive hedging (PH) algorithm. The case studies of the IEEE RTS‐79 test system demonstrate that, compared with the traditional independent planning model, the model proposed in this paper performs better in limiting load loss and enhancing resilience under extreme scenarios. The secular increase of load causes the evolving power system to operate near the critical margins. In such attitudes, the probability of cascading line outages, as the major reason for recent blackouts, is much more than expected. As a result, an innovative approach for optimal AC transmission expansion planning (TEP) to minimize the risk of cascading blackouts is presented in this paper. The proposed multi‐objective AC‐TEP problem minimizes the expected energy not supplied due to the total load shedding imposed on the system to mitigate the risk of cascading line outages along with the total investment and operational costs of the new transmission lines planned to be optimally added to the system. This probabilistic procedure is based on self‐organized criticality and considers the actual aspects of the power system such as reactive power and voltage concerns in the planning stage. The obtained Pareto front set provides the opportunity for the planners to choose the most preferred solution. The proposed method is implemented and verified in the IEEE 118‐bus test system and compared with two types of TEP approaches. The first one is a previously reported version of this work which was a simplified DC model of the problem and the second one is the conventional AC‐TEP model. The obtained results show the benefits of the proposed AC model on the mitigation of cascading line outages in a more realistic framework, considering the impact of reactive power and voltage stability concerns. The existing relay protections for line‐commutated converter (LCC)‐ultra high voltage DC (UHVDC) transmission lines are insufficient in protection sensitivity and operation speed. The travelling wavefront fault distance information can be used to improve protection performance, which has been used in protection of voltage source converter ‐high voltage DC (HVDC) transmission lines. The adaptability of travelling wavefront protection in LCC‐UHVDC transmission line is analyzed in this paper. First, the conditions that need to be met for the travelling wavefront protections to be able to effectively recognize faults are analyzed. Eight applicability conditions of wavefront protection are revealed from the perspective of travelling wavefront generation and practical application requirements. Then the degree of match between the applicability conditions and the conditions of LCC‐UHVDC system is analyzed as a basis for assessing the adaptability of travelling wavefront protection in the LCC‐UHVDC system. It is pointed out that the index coefficient‐based wavefront protections are not available for LCC‐UHVDC transmission lines since the hardware sampling rate of protection device is insufficient, while first peak time of transient voltage (FPTV)‐based wavefront protection is available for LCC‐UHVDC transmission lines if it has enough anti‐noise ability. Finally, an enhanced anti‐noise algorithm is proposed for the FPTV‐based travelling wavefront protection. Transmission lines may suffer from pin defects, necessitating regular patrols and maintenance. The traditional maintenance approach not only involves a substantial workload and low efficiency but also poses a threat to the safety of maintenance personnel. To address the issue of pin defects in high‐voltage transmission lines, this paper introduces the design of an intelligent pin‐eliminating robot. The research focuses on two main aspects: firstly, analyzing the transmission line environment and employing Solidworks software to design the mechanical structure of the robot. Subsequently, a static stress analysis of the robot's structure is conducted to ensure the rationality of the design. The second aspect addresses the impact of the robot on the electric field distribution of the transmission line in high electric field intensity areas and whether the robot itself experiences discharge phenomena. COMSOL simulation software is utilized to globally calculate and analyze the electric field of the robot. Research results indicate that the threshold for the curvature radius of the pin‐eliminating robot's tip is 2.5mm, and values below this threshold may lead to the occurrence of discharge phenomena. This paper proposes a nonlinear analysis of the parameter estimation problem in overhead and submarine power cable applications. The proposed methodology is able to estimate both positive and zero sequence parameters. Also, the measurement model incorporates random uncertainty in a rigorous manner, addressing the issue of noise propagation after applying symmetrical components. Three nonlinear estimation methods were studied to address the nonlinear least squares problems. Several noise levels and sample sizes were considered to demonstrate the robustness of the proposed approach. Finally, the methods were validated using both a simplified 2‐bus system and the IEEE 14‐bus system. This paper presents a slow‐wave substrate integrated suspended parallel strip line (SW‐SISPSL) for the first time. The slow‐wave effect is produced by cascading high/low‐impedance SISPSL in the meander line configuration. Different from conventional single‐ended slow‐wave transmission lines, the proposed SW‐SISPSL supports differential signal transmission. The characteristic impedance and slow‐wave factor of the SW‐SISPSL are analyzed using equivalent circuit models. Using the proposed SW‐SISPSL and a SISPSL phase inverter, a very compact rat‐race coupler is implemented. The core circuit area of the slow‐wave rat‐race coupler is 0.083 λg × 0.089 λg, which is only 4.12% of the conventional topology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper conducts the frequency‐dependent grounding system impact on externally gapped line arresters (EGLAs) operation and their placement effects on the lightning performance of a transmission line (TL). The study involves placing EGLAs at different phases of a 400‐kV double‐circuit TL with two downstream shield wires and selecting the optimal state with fewer back‐flashover incidents. The results show that using a non‐linear grounding system leads to a higher back return current from insulators or EGLAs, resulting in a higher flashover rate compared to the frequency grounding system (FGS). Installing four EGLAs in the middle and upper phases of the TL provides satisfactory lightning protection, and the flashover probability is zero and 4.2% for the FGS and the non‐linear grounding system, respectively. A sensitivity analysis including soil resistor variation, economic analysis, and grounding electrode configuration has been performed that confirms installing downstream shield wires and EGLAs is an effective and economical technique for lightning protection. Bird's nest defect is an important cause of transmission line faults. To achieve accurate detection of bird nest defects in complex scenarios, a bird nest defect detection model for transmission lines was proposed that combines domain knowledge and occlusion reasoning networks. On the one hand, the model utilized the domain knowledge of the location of the bird's nest, using edge detection to obtain tower area information to constrain the location of candidate frames. This helps to reduce the false detection caused by complex backgrounds. On the other hand, on the basis of analyzing the occlusion characteristics of bird nests, the model employed occlusion reasoning networks that randomly erase features at the feature level to simulate the occlusion of bird nests in real scenes and improve the model's detection capability for occluded targets. Additionally, a multi‐scale feature fusion algorithm was designed in this paper to adapt the model to the scale variations of bird nests in aerial images. Experimental results demonstrate that the model outperforms advanced target detection models and other bird nest defect detection methods, with an AP50 of 78.8% and an AR10 of 72.4% for defect detection. Overhead transmission line detection based on deep learning of aerial images taken by UAVs has been widely investigated. Despite its success, it is limited by several factors, including inappropriate evaluation criteria and dramatic scaling of components in the images. To mitigate these issues, a relative mean Average Precision evaluation index is proposed to accurately measure the model's detection performance for smaller objects. A data enhancement strategy including multi‐scale transformation is adopted to alleviate the problem of drastic scaling. The existing Cascade RCNN target detection technology is enhanced by incorporating Swin‐v2 and a balanced feature pyramid to improve feature characterization capabilities, while side‐aware boundary localization is utilized to improve the positioning accuracy of the model. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms state‐of‐the‐art methods on CPLID and achieves 7.8%, 11.8%, and 5.5% higher detection accuracy than the baseline for mAP50, relative small and medium mAP, respectively. In this paper, a comprehensive study is presented whereby genetic algorithm optimization (GAO) is used to find the best arrangement of three‐phase high‐voltage transmission line (TL) conductors, that minimizes emitted electric and magnetic fields (EMFs), maximizes power capacity, and avoids corona. Moreover, a financial cost study is conducted in order to show the feasibility of implementing such rearrangement, where construction costs are compared with the impact on a populated area in close proximity to the line. To facilitate applying the procedure of this paper, a detailed description of each step is provided. Both single circuit as well as double circuit transmission lines are considered, and bundled conductors are analyzed. To demonstrate the validity and usefulness of the mathematical formulation and MATLAB computer codes, computed results are compared with measured data where good agreement is observed. To show that using GAO for solving high voltage line problems is an alternative to other robust optimization techniques such as particle swarm optimization (PSO), GAO solutions are compared with PSO solutions. The GAO results are also compared with the unoptimized results, where significant improvements can be seen. Since according to this algorithm, line conductors move freely throughout the solution space in an attempt to find the best solution, it is important to restrict this movement in order to adhere to the separation limits of the transmission line international standards IEC‐71. This paper presents the new upper bounds of channel width required in multi- layer channel routing under a wiring rule in which horizontal wires must be wired in the odd-numbered layers and vertical wires in the even-numbered layers. In (M ≧ 4)-layer channel routing, it is proved the upper bound is equal to [(dc +k)/[M/2]], where dc is the channel density, and k is 9 when M = 5, 7 when M is even, and 13 when M is odd and greater than 5. The UK net‐zero target requires the integration of significant renewable energy resources into the electrical grid. This, together with the projected growth in electricity demand imposes practical challenges on the power transfer capability of existing transmission feeders. For environmental and planning reasons, construction of new overhead lines is problematic, and where possible upgrading of existing substations and lines is preferred. This paper investigates the feasibility of transforming an existing three‐phase (3Φ) double‐circuit 400 kV line into a six‐phase (6Φ) feeder for a simulated future GB scenario. Results indicate a 6Φ feeder, operating at a 'phase‐adjacent phase' voltage of 400 kV can effectively solve the constraints of boundaries in transmission networks. When considering the various operating contingencies, associated with an important UK network boundary and its expected near‐future winter‐peak power transfer requirements, the thermal overload issues are mitigated by transforming a feeder from 3Φ to 6Φ. The paper demonstrates upgrading to 6Φ technology is a potential solution to certain future boundary constraints and in these cases avoids the need to build new underground or overhead AC/DC lines. This paper presents a two‐stage resilient framework for generation and transmission expansion planning that profits static and dynamic models. The first stage problem finds the generation and transmission expansion results without considering extreme events. Given the planned power system, in the second stage, a simulation‐based method is employed to accurately model the effects of the severe events and measure the expected demand not served. The proposed framework updates the formulation of the planning problem to efficiently search for a new expansion plan resulting in higher resilience levels. This paper uses the maximizing social welfare in the planning model to find the optimal result. Also, the effect of maximizing social welfare in updating the formulation of the planning problem is investigated. In this case, the planning problem is a bi‐level problem that using the primal‐dual formulation leads to a single‐level problem called a mathematical program with equilibrium constraints. After the linearization, the planning problem becomes a mixed‐integer linear programming problem. The planning model profits from reinforced transmission lines to improve power system resilience. The proposed framework is evaluated on 4‐bus, 6‐bus, and 118‐bus systems. According to the results, the proposed method with a low additional cost boosts power system resilience. Silicone gel is widely used to encapsulate power modules, and improvement of its dielectric strength has been required. So, the purpose of our research is to improve dielectric strength of silicone gel encapsulant, and we focus on crosslinking degree of silicone gel. Previous studies have shown that growth mechanism of electrical tree changes with crosslinking degree of silicone gel. This suggests the possibility that the presence of the interface by different crosslinking degrees inhibits the tree growth. In this paper, we have investigated the tree growth and breakdown characteristics in silicone gel—crosslinking degrees graded layer materials. The interfaces in our study are arrange as being vertical to the line of electric force. Consequently, it was clarified that barrier effect of interface by different crosslinking degrees and the relaxation of electric field in low crosslinking degree region retards on tree growth, which improves the dielectric strength. Modern power systems are structurally complex and thus experience transient events. For secure and reliable operation, quick system restoration is required whenever transient phenomenon like line faults occurs. Fault location techniques (FLTs) aid in faster restoration process. However, the accuracy of FLTs gets affected in presence of static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) since STATCOM compensates the dip in measured voltage during fault thereby affecting the fault current signals. Therefore, in this paper, a Teager energy assisted variational mode decomposition (VMD) based traveling wave FLT is developed for transmission lines with STATCOM. The proposed FLT considers two‐terminal instantaneous voltage signals for locating faults. In this FLT, the signals are first decoupled into modal signals and then aerial mode of the signals is chosen for decomposition using VMD. The signals are decomposed via VMD to level three producing mode three signals. Teager energy of the resultant signals is obtained and from the first peak of the energy signals, arrival time of waves (ATWs) is estimated. These estimated ATWs are used to calculate fault location and percentage error. To validate the performance of proposed FLT, several test cases with different fault scenarios are considered and the results are compared with existing techniques. With the improvement of smart grid, utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to detect the operation status of insulators has attracted widespread attention. The insulator defects can lead to serious power loss, damage the service life of power lines, and even result in power outages in serious cases. The small‐scale object, complex background, and limited‐number collected data make insulator defect still a challenging problem. Benefitted by the advances in deep learning, deep learning‐based insulator defects have achieved great progress in recent years. In the paper, the authors present a novel systematic survey of these advances, where further analysis about different processing stages methods is introduced: (i) insulator processing stage methods exploit the specific image pre‐processing algorithm for data augmentation and low‐level vision information extraction; (ii) defect detection stage model can locate and classify diagnosis fault with different task targets, like sequential task strategy and multi‐task strategy. In addition, the authors also review publicly available benchmark and datasets. The future research direction and open problem are discussed to promote the development of the community.
