In this paper, we study the link between finite-dimensional Zinbiel algebras and combinatorial structures or (pseudo)digraphs determining which configurations are associated with those algebras. Some properties of Zinbiel algebras that can be read from their associated combinatorial structures are studied. We also analyze the isomorphism classes for each configuration associated with these algebras providing a new method to classify them and we compare our results with the current classifications of 2- and 3-dimensional Zinbiel algebras. We also obtain the 3-vertices combinatorial structures associated with such algebras. In order to complement the theoretical study, we have designed and performed the implementation of an algorithm which constructs and draws the (pseudo)digraph associated with a given Zinbiel algebra and, conversely, another procedure to test if a given combinatorial structure is associated with some Zinbiel algebra. Abstract: In this paper, we consider completely generalized nonlinear quasi-variational-like inclusions in Banach spaces and propose an Ishikawa type iterative algorithm for computing their approximate solutions by applying the new notion of -proximal mapping given in [R. Ahmad, A.H. Siddiqi, Z. Khan, Proximal point algorithm for generalized multi-valued nonlinear quasi-variational-like inclusions in Banach spaces, Appl. Math. Comput. 163 (2005) 295–308]. We prove that the approximate solutions obtained by the proposed algorithm converge to the exact solution of our quasi-variational-like inclusions. The aim of this paper is to exploit the algorithms of paper Experimental Math. 8 (1999) in order to produce a new algebraic method for computing efficiently absolute Lagrange resolvent, a fundamental tool in constructive algebraic Galois theory. This article is composed of two parts.The main idea of the first part is to break up the calculation of absolute resolvent into smaller computations. Since a multi-resolvent is a factor of a resolvent, the whole resolvent may be computed by means of several multi-resolvents.The idea of the second part is that an irreducible polynomial over Z might be reducible over Z /pZ for certain integer p. So the first part can be applied and then, the Chinese remainder theorem allows to lift up the resolvent over Z. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

This paper discusses a mathematical concept of language that models both artificial and natural languages and thus provides a framework for a unified language processing methodology. This concept of a language is regarded as a communication tool that allows language users to develop knowledges, while interacting with their universe of discourse, and to communicate with each other, while exchanging knowledges. Criteria for consistent usage of a language are established using a Galois connection between language syntax and language semantics. Solutions to ambiguity, paraphrase, attitude, and other problems concerning the relationship between syntax and semantics are addressed. A general schema for language specification is introduced and algorithms that perform language generation and language analysis are discussed as universal tools defined by the specification schema. Language transformations performed by various kinds of translators are examined and correctness criteria of these translators are defined using the language Galois connection.The paper is structured as follows: Section 1 introduces the framework and justifies the necessity of a unified methodology for language processing. Section 2 presents the mathematical concept of a language. Section 3 illustrates the mathematical concept of a language with three kinds of language structures: natural language, logical language, and programming language. Section 4 discusses the algebraic mechanism of language specification that unifies the methodology for language processing tool development. Section 5 formalizes the criterion for the consistency of the language usage, defines the architecture of a unified language processing system, and shows how the consistency criteria for language usage can be employed as correctness criteria for the algorithms performing various language transformations. Abstract: This paper presents an agglomerative hierarchical clustering algorithm for spatial data. It discovers clusters of arbitrary shapes which may be nested. The algorithm uses a sweeping approach consisting of three phases: sorting is done during the preprocessing phase, determination of clusters is performed during the sweeping phase, and clusters are adjusted during the post processing phase. The properties of the algorithm are demonstrated by examples. The algorithm is also adapted to the streaming algorithm for clustering large spatial datasets. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The coefficient of fragmentability of a class of graphs measures the proportion of vertices that need to be removed from the graphs in the class in order to leave behind bounded sized components. We have previously given bounds on this parameter for the class of graphs satisfying a given constant bound on maximum degree. In this paper, we give fragmentability bounds for some classes of graphs of bounded average degree, as well as classes of given thickness, the class of -colourable graphs, and the class of n-dimensional cubes. In order to establish the fragmentability results for bounded average degree, we prove that the proportion of vertices that must be removed from a graph of average degree at most in order to leave behind a planar subgraph (in fact, a series-parallel subgraph) is at most , provided or the graph is connected and . The proof yields an algorithm for finding large induced planar subgraphs and (under certain conditions) a lower bound on the size of the induced planar subgraph it finds. This bound is similar in form to the one we found for a previous algorithm we developed for that problem, but applies to a larger class of graphs. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The longest common subsequence (LCS) problem is one of the classical and well-studied problems in computer science. The computation of the LCS is a frequent task in DNA sequence analysis, and has applications to genetics and molecular biology. In this paper we introduce new variants of LCS problem and present efficient algorithms to solve them. In particular we introduce the notion of gap constraints in the LCS problems. For the LCS problem with fixed gap, we first present a naive algorithm runs in time, where is the total number of ordered pairs of positions at which the two strings match and is the fixed gap constraint. We then improve the running time to using some novel techniques. Furthermore, we present an algorithm that is independent of and runs in time. Using these techniques, we also present a new algorithm to solve the original LCS problem. Additionally, we modify our algorithms to handle elastic and rigid gaps. We also apply the notion of rigidness to the original LCS problem and modify the traditional dynamic programming solution to handle the rigidness presenting a algorithm to solve the problem. Finally, we also improve the solution to Rigid Fixed Gap LCS to . Notably, in all of the above cases, we assume that the two given strings are of equal length i.e. . This paper deals with the issue of developing efficient algorithms for reconfiguring two-dimensional VLSI arrays linked by four-port switches in the presence of faulty processing elements (PEs). The proposed algorithm reroutes the arrays with faults in both row and column directions at the same time. Unlike previous work, the compensation technique to replace the faulty PE is not restricted to the adjacent rows of the excluded row. Instead, we consider the neighbor rows of any faulty PE for compensation purposes. The nonfaulty PEs lying in the excluded rows are also effectively utilized to form the maximal target arrays, making the proposed algorithm more efficient in terms of both the percentages of harvest and the degradation of VLSI arrays for random and clustered faults. Empirical study shows that the improvement in harvest increases with increasing fault size and is more notable for maximal square target arrays than for maximal target arrays. Our investigations show that the improvement can be up to 8 percent and 23 percent for a 256 × 256 VLSI array with random faults of size 25 percent for maximal target arrays and for maximal square target arrays, respectively. Abstract: Algebraic surfaces–which are frequently used in geometric modelling–are represented either in implicit or parametric form. Several techniques for parametrizing a rational algebraic surface as a whole exist. However, in many applications, it suffices to parametrize a small portion of the surface. This motivates the analysis of local parametrizations, i.e., parametrizations of a small neighborhood of a given point of the surface . In this paper we introduce several techniques for generating such parametrizations for nonsingular cubic surfaces. For this class of surfaces, it is shown that the local parametrization problem can be solved for all points, and any such surface can be covered completely. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The main results of the paper are two dual algorithms bijectively mapping the set of spanning trees with internal activity 1 and external activity 0 of an ordered graph onto the set of acyclic orientations with adjacent unique source and sink. More generally, these algorithms extend to an activity-preserving correspondence between spanning trees and orientations. For certain linear orderings of the edges, they also provide a bijection between spanning trees with external activity 0 and acyclic orientations with a given unique sink. This construction uses notably an active decomposition for orientations of a graph which extends the notion of components for acyclic orientations with unique given sink. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Let be a finite group. It is easy to compute the character of corresponding to a given complex representation, but much more difficult to compute a representation affording a given character. In part this is due to the fact that a class of equivalent representations contains no natural canonical representation. Although there is a large literature devoted to computing representations, and methods are known for particular classes of groups, we know of no general method which has been proposed which is practical for any but small groups. We shall describe an algorithm for computing an irreducible matrix representation which affords a given character of a given group . The algorithm uses properties of the structure of which can be computed efficiently by a program such as GAP, theoretical results from representation theory, theorems from group theory (including the classification of finite simple groups), and linear algebra. DTD has been widely used as the schema language for XML documents. A DTD describes the structure of a collection of similar XML documents. The consistency problem of XML DTDs concerns the question that given a DTD D, if there exists any finite XML document that conforms to D. This issue is important because one wants to know whether a DTD specification is meaningful. In this paper, we formalize the notion of the consistency of DTDs, identify a sufficient and necessary condition for a DTD to be consistent, and propose a linear algorithm, DTDCon, for the consistency checking problem. In this paper, we propose a semi-numerical algorithm for computing absolute factorization of multivariate polynomials. It is based on some properties appearing after a generic change of coordinate. Using numerical computation, Galois group action and rational approximation, this method provides an efficient probabilistic algorithm for medium degrees.
