Although carbonatite-alkaline complexes are the primary source of the world's niobium (Nb) supply, the mineralization style is largely variable in these complexes and the processes behind their formation are still poorly understood. Exemplifying with our new observations on the ~430 Ma Miaoya and Shaxiongdong carbonatite-syenite complexes in the southern Qinling orogenic belt, central China, show that disseminated Nb mineralization in these two deposits is pervasive throughout the entire complexes in both syenite and carbonatite. Both magmatic and hydrothermal processes have contributed to Nb mineralization in both deposits, despite differences in the mineralization style. The Nb-bearing minerals in the mineralized Miaoya syenites include magmatic U-poor pyrochlore, rutile, and ilmenite with minor amounts of columbite, and hydrothermal columbite and rutile, whereas those in the mineralized carbonatites are mainly magmatic U-poor pyrochlore, uranpyrochlore, U-rich betafite, and rutile with minor amounts of columbite, and hydrothermal columbite and rutile. On the other hand, the Nb-bearing minerals in the mineralized Shaxiongdong syenites include magmatic U-poor pyrochlore, titanite, rutile, and ilmenite, and hydrothermal fersmite, rutile, and ilmenite, whereas those in the mineralized carbonatites are mainly magmatic U-poor pyrochlore without any hydrothermal Nb-bearing minerals. Field observations, whole-rock chemical and Sr-Nd isotopic compositions strongly constrained that assimilation of U-rich rocks (e.g., the hosting Yaolinghe and Meiziya Groups) and magma differentiation are responsible for diverse magmatic Nb mineralization in the two deposits. On the other hand, the diverse assemblages of hydrothermal Nb minerals in Miaoya and Shaxiongdong are mainly controlled by variations in the nature of the fluids, which is constrained to be genetically related to ~220 and ~420 Ma hydrothermal events, respectively. In summary, both magma evolution (e.g., differentiation, assimilation) and late hydrothermal overprinting are responsible for the diverse Nb mineralogy in carbonatite-alkaline complexes, a situation that is commonly observed worldwide. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death globally and poses at significant challenge in terms of effective medical treatment. Leonurus japonicus Houtt , a traditional Chinese herb, is widely used in China for the treatment of obstetrical and gynecological disorders, including menstrual disorders, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, blood stasis, postpartum bleeding, and blood-related diseases such as CVD. Stachydrine, the main alkaloid component of Leonurus, has been shown to exhibit a wide range of biological activities including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-coagulant, anti-apoptotic, vasodilator, angiogenic promoter. Additionally, it has been demonstrated to have unique advantages in the prevention and treatment of CVD through regulation of various disease-related signaling pathways and molecular targets. In this comprehensive review, we examine the latest pharmacological effects and molecular mechanisms of Stachydrine in treating cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Our aim is to solid scientific basis for the development of new CVD drug formulations. Elemental and Li-Sr-Nd isotopic data of minerals in spinel peridotites hosted by Cenozoic basalts allow us to refine the existing models for Li isotopic fractionation in mantle peridotites and constrain the melt/fluid-peridotite interaction in the lithospheric mantle beneath the North China Craton. Highly elevated Li concentrations in cpx (up to 24 ppm) relative to coexisting opx and olivine (<4 ppm) indicate that the peridotites experienced metasomatism by mafic silicate melts and/or fluids. The mineral δLi vary greatly, with olivine (+0.7 to +5.4‰) being isotopically heavier than coexisting opx (−4.4 to −25.9‰) and cpx (−3.3 to −21.4‰) in most samples. The δLi in pyroxenes are considerably lower than the normal mantle values and show negative correlation with their Li abundances, likely due to recent Li ingress attended by diffusive fractionation of Li isotopes. Two exceptional samples have olivine δLi of −3.0 and −7.9‰, indicating the existence of low δLi domains in the mantle, which could be transient and generated by meter-scale diffusion of Li during melt/fluid-peridotite interaction. The Nd/Nd (0.5123-0.5139) and Sr/Sr (0.7018-0.7062) in the pyroxenes also show a large variation, in which the cpx are apparently lower in Sr/Sr and slightly higher in Nd/Nd than coexisting opx, implying an intermineral Sr-Nd isotopic disequilibrium. This is observed more apparently in peridotites having low Sr/Sr and high Nd/Nd ratios than in those with high Sr/Sr and low Nd/Nd, suggesting that a relatively recent interaction existed between an ancient metasomatized lithospheric mantle and asthenospheric melt, which transformed the refractory peridotites with highly radiogenic Sr and unradiogenic Nd isotopic compositions to the fertile lherzolites with unradiogenic Sr and radiogenic Nd isotopic compositions. Therefore, we argue that the lithospheric mantle represented by the peridotites has been heterogeneously refertilized by multistage melt/fluid-peridotite interactions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: With increases in inactive lifestyles and mounting pressure for academic excellence in Chinese younger populations, lack of physical activity and increased prevalence of obesity have become a major public health concern in China. The purpose of this study is to provide updated estimates on the prevalence of meeting moderate-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and screen viewing time guidelines, and overweight and obesity among Chinese school-aged children and adolescents, with a secondary aim examining variations in prevalence by sex, grade groupings, and residential location.Methods: The study sample came from the 2017 Physical Activity and Fitness in China-The Youth Study, a cross-sectional and national survey of 131,859 students (aged 7 to 19 years) from 986 public schools in China. Measures of MVPA, screen viewing time, and age- and sex-specific overweight and obese body mass index were used to calculate national prevalence estimates of Chinese school-aged children and adolescents.Results: In 2017, 34.1% (95% confidence interval [CI], 34.09-34.11%) of children and adolescents met MVPA guidelines and 65.4% (95% CI, 65.39-65.41%) adhered to screen viewing time guidelines. The prevalence of overweight and obesity was 15.1% (95% CI, 15.09-15.11%) and 10.7% (95% CI, 10.69-10.71%), respectively. Prevalence estimates differed by sex (boys, girls), grade grouping (primary schools, junior middle schools, junior high schools), and residential location (rural, urban).Conclusions: There remains a low prevalence of meeting MVPA guidelines and high prevalence of overweight and obesity in Chinese school-aged children and adolescents. Future efforts should focus on monitoring the trend of these behavioral and health risk factors to inform school policies and programs aimed at increasing physical activity and reducing and preventing obesity in younger populations in China. The article presents a case study of a 71‑year‑old female was admitted to our department due to black spots under the fourth fingernail of her right hand that had existed for more than one year. Topics include the subungual angiokeratoma of the right fourth fingernail that clinically mimicked malignant melanoma (MM), and the patient was considered to have MM instead of vascular disease as the first clinical diagnosis.

The Chakabeishan (CKBS) deposit is the first pegmatite-type Li-Be deposit discovered in the eastern North Qaidam Tectonic Belt (NQTB) of Tibetan Plateau. The correct understanding of its petrogenesis and the precise determination of its formation age are of great significance for further regional prospecting and the discovery of new economically valuable rare-metal deposits. Therefore, a systematic study of texture, major-element composition, and U-Pb dating of columbite-tantalite group minerals (CGMs) in the spodumene pegmatite dyke from the CKBS deposit was undertaken. Three types of CGMs were identified, including concentric oscillatory ferrocolumbite (CGMs-1), homogeneous ferrocolumbite (CGMs-2), and irregular ferrotantalite (minor manganocolumbite) with abundant early ferrocolumbite replacement remnants (CGMs-3). The zoning patterns and chemical compositions in the CGMs record the complex evolutionary history of their host pegmatite from the magmatic stage (CGMs-1, disequilibrium crystallization) to the magmatic-hydrothermal transition stage (CGMs-2, equilibrium crystallization) and then to the late metasomatic stage (CGMs-3, replacement/re-equilibrium). CGMs U-Pb dating results suggest that the spodumene pegmatite dyke (No.15) emplaced at 230.1 ± 2.6 Ma. Subsequently, it experienced fluid metasomatism at 221 ± 5.3 Ma. Based on the new age data and published geochronological data, it can be concluded that the spodumene pegmatite dykes in the CKBS deposit formed in an oceanic subduction-related setting, representing a new metallogenic event in western China. Except for the CKBS deposit, a large number of rare-metal pegmatite dykes have also been discovered in the eastern NQTB, indicating that the eastern NQTB may be an important potential rare-metal metallogenic belt that should be explored in detail and arouse painstaking attention. Evidence has shown that exposure to environmental pollutants such as microcystins (MCs), arsenic (As), and cadmium (Cd) can lead to the occurrence and development of chronic kidney disease (CKD). There is a synergistic effect between MCs and Cd. However, the combined effect of MCs and As exposures on CKD remains unclear. In Hunan province, China, 135 controls and 135 CKD cases were enrolled in a case-control study. Serum MCs, plasma As and Cd concentrations were measured for all participants. We investigated the association between MCs/As and CKD risk using conditional logistic regression. The additive model explored the interaction effect, and the Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) models investigated the combined effects of MCs, As, and Cd on CKD. The results showed that MCs and As were significantly associated with CKD risk. Participants in the highest MCs concentration had a 4,81-fold increased risk of CKD compared to those in the lowest quartile (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1,96 to 11,81). The highest quartile of As concentrations corresponded to an adjusted odds ratio of 3.40 (95% CI: 1.51, 7.65) relative to the lowest quartile. MCs/As and CKD risk exhibited significant dose–response correlations (all p for trend < 0.01). In addition, a positive interaction effect of MCs and As on CKD was also reported. The CKD risk due to interaction was 2.34 times (95% CI: 0.14, 4.54) relative to the CKD risk without interaction, and the attributable proportion of CKD due to interaction among individuals with both exposures was 56% (95% CI: 0.22, 0.91). In the BKMR, the combined effect of MCs, As, and Cd was positively associated with CKD. In conclusion, both MCs and As are independent risk factors for CKD, exerting a synergistic effect between them. Combined exposure to MCs, As, and Cd can increase the risk of CKD. The objectives of this study were (a) to report grade level prevalence in physical activity and sedentary behaviors and (b) to examine academic burden associations with these behaviors. School-aged children (n = 48,118) reported their physical activity, perception of physical activity sufficiency, factors for activity insufficiency, homework hours, and screen time in a typical week. Data were analyzed using general linear models and logistic regression models of Complex Samples. Prevalence results showed that children had lower physical activity and lower screen viewing time, but higher homework time during transition grades (6th, 9th, and 12th) and high school years. Academic burden was cited as the primary reason for not having sufficient physical activity (76.6%). Compared to those citing academic burden, students who did not report academic burden were significantly more likely to meet physical activity guidelines (Odds Ratio (OR) = 5.38, 95% CI = 4.74–6.11), but less likely to meet screen time guidelines (OR = 0.78, 95% CI = 0.72–0.84), controlling for body mass index, gender, and grade level. Additionally, children who reported academic burdens had significantly longer average daily homework time than those who did not (p<0.01). Policy makers should promote physical activity and help children find a balance between homework and physical activity time particularly among the educational transition grades. Natural gas-fired electricity (NGFE) is expected to play a more important role in the future due to its characteristics of low pollution, high efficiency and flexibility. However, its development in China is impeded by its high regulation price compared with coal power. Market reform is therefore of vital importance to promote the penetration of NGFE. The objective of this study is to analyze the impacts of market reform and the renewable electricity (RE) subsidy policy on the promotion of NGFE and RE. A dynamic game-theoretic model is developed to analyze the interaction among the NG supplier, the power sector and the power grid. Three scenarios are proposed with different policies, including a fixed regulation price of NG and electricity, real-time pricing (RTP) of NG and electricity, and subsidy targeted at RE. The results show that: (1) market reform can sharply decrease the NG price and consequently promote the development of NGFE and RE; (2) subsidy targeted at RE not only promotes the penetration of NGFE and RE, but also increases the utilization ratio of renewables significantly; (3) market reform and the subsidy also enhance consumers' welfare by reducing their power consumption expenditure. Determining absolute ages of orogenic faults is critical to understanding the deformation process in the upper crust, but obtaining age remains a problem due to the lack of readily available techniques. Carbonates occur as veins in faults in a range of geological settings, and thus it is a suitable mineral for U-Pb geochronology. Here, we apply the new approach of U-Pb dating on syn-tectonic dolomite veins from the Gelouang gold deposit in the western Qinling Orogen to unravel the absolute timing of the fault formation shedding new light on the regional upper crustal deformation archive. In situ LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating of dolomite yielding a successful age of 115–112 Ma demonstrates that the dolomite precipitated coeval with tectonic events ascribed to the post-orogenic deformation phase in the Qinling Orogen. This event is possibly correlated with broader intracontinental processes and might be an inevitable response to the extensional deformation of the Qinling Orogen. The presented LA-ICP-MS dolomite U-Pb age successfully represents the age of a specific structure that encompasses the intracontinental process in the Qinling Orogen. Background and Objectives: To investigate the Intensivists' cognizance of nutritional management and its determinants, and to provide evidence for standardizing nutritional therapy with protocols.Methods and Study Design: From April to July 2021, a multi-stage sampling method was used to investigate the nutritional cognizance of critical care physicians in secondary and tertiary hospitals in Guizhou Province, China; Questionnaires and scales were used as survey tools. The questionnaires sought general information about the respondents and documented their nutrition cognizance and practice. Five scalar dimensions explored nutritional management, with answers scored for 1-5 points, 3 points being the pass score.Results: 322 respondents from 147 hospitals were surveyed. The average score was passable, but not good at 3.37±0.71 (p<0.01 with 3.0 as reference). Among the five dimensions, evaluation and monitoring of nutritional status had the highest score (3.79±0.67, p<0.01), the understanding of nutritional preparations had the lowest (3.09±0.86, p>0.05), and the scores of other dimensions ranged from 3.21 to 3.49. Almost 70% of intensivists said that they would give priority to other than nutritional therapeutic measures in actual clinical practice. But 96% thought it necessary to strengthen and emphasise nutritional management.Conclusions: Critical care physicians' knowledge and understanding of nutritional therapy are limited, especially in the use of supportive preparations; Recourse to protocols and standardized nutritional management of assistance may depend on training, assigned role, peer expectations and health system policy, each of which has the potential for advancement in the interest of better nutritional care in provincial Guizhou. Objective: To evaluate the epidemiology and disease burden of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in college freshmen in China. Methods: This population-based cross-sectional survey was carried out among 9227 freshmen of two comprehensive universities in two cities of China (Changsha and Xiamen) from September 2018 to October 2018. Questionnaires covering basic issues, surrounding demographic information, history of diseases, living habits, comorbidities, etc. were completed online in a self-reported manner Dermatological examination was performed by certified dermatologists. The disease burden of AGA, which includes health-related quality of life, symptoms of anxiety, symptoms of depression and quality of sleep, was measured by EQ-5D-3L, PHQ-2, GAD-2 and PSQI, respectively. Results: The prevalence of AGA in college freshmen in China was 5.3/1000. Male was significantly associated with higher prevalence of AGA (7.9/1000, P<0.01) while female with lower risk of AGA (OR = 0.29, P = 0.002). There was no significant association between BMI and AGA, nor predilection of AGA in the Han nationality or the other ethnic minorities. Annual household income or parental highest educational level exerted no significant influence on the prevalence of AGA. Rosacea (OR = 3.22, P = 0.019) was significantly associated with higher prevalence of AGA while acne seemed not to be related to AGA. The scores of EQ-5D, GAD-2, PHQ-2 and PSQI were not significantly different between students with and without AGA. Background: We aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and islet β-cell function in patients with Klinefelter syndrome (KS) and hyperglycemia. Methods: This is a retrospective study. In total, 22 patients diagnosed with KS were identified from the electronic medical record system, including 9 patients with hyperglycemia (total patients with hyperglycemia, THG-KS group) and 5 hyperglycemic KS patients with oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) results (HG-KS group). An additional 5 subjects with hyperglycemia and 5 normal glucose tolerance (NGT) subjects matched based on body mass index were included as the HG group and NGT group, respectively. Data from clinical and laboratory examinations were collected. We further performed a literature review of KS and hyperglycemia. Results: We found that KS patients developed abnormal glucose metabolism earlier in life than those without KS, and the median age was 17 years, ranging from 10 years to 19 years. Six of 17 (35.3%) patients were diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and 3 of 17 (17.6%) patients were diagnosed with prediabetes. Among 10 patients with both fasting blood glucose and insulin results recorded, there were 8 out of 17 (47.1%) KS patients had insulin resistance. The prevalence of hypertension and dyslipidemia was higher in patients with hyperglycemia and KS than in patients with NGT KS. Compared with the HG group, insulin sensitivity levels were lower in HG-KS group, whereas homeostasis model assessment of β-cell function levels (p = 0.047) were significantly, indicating higher insulin secretion levels in the HG-KS group. Conclusions: KS patients develop hyperglycemia earlier in life than those without KS and show lower insulin sensitivity and higher insulin secretion. These patients also have a higher prevalence of other metabolic diseases and may have different frequencies of developing KS-related symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Botulinum toxin (BTX) is a new treatment approach primarily aimed at relieving flushing and erythema for rosacea, but it is expensive and lacks economic benefit evaluation studies.This study aimed to investigate willingness-to-pay (WTP) of BTX treatment and conduct benefit–cost analysis (BCA) to assess if BTX treatment for rosacea is recommendable from a viewpoint of economics in China. Methods: WTP of BTX treatment in rosacea and information of sociodemographic and clinical characteristics were inquired via an online questionnaire among the Chinese rosacea patients. The WTP was inquired by photos of three cases with different severities of rosacea before and after BTX treatment. The benefit–cost ratio (BCR) was calculated by dividing WTP by cost. Factors associated with WTP were identified using logistic regression models. Results: The average costs of BTX treatment were USD410.09. The mean WTP for Case 1, Case 2, and Case 3 was USD295.53, 307.91, and 311.78, respectively (p< 0.05 for Case 1 vs Case 3). 44.31% to 47.52% of Chinese rosacea patients were willing to pay for the BTX treatment. The BCRs were 0.72, 0.75, and 0.76 for Case 1, Case 2, and Case 3, respectively. A positive correlation between WTP and visiting frequency in the past year (OR=1.181– 1.200, p=0.015– 0.032, for Cases 1 and 2) or Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) score (OR=2.022– 2.266, all p< 0.01) was observed, but duration (OR=0.521– 0.564, p< 0.05, for Cases 1 and 2) of rosacea was negatively correlated with WTP. Conclusion: For rosacea patients with poor quality of life, and those with high visiting frequency, BTX should be regarded as a recommendable new treatment in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[Display omitted] • First report the Paleokarst infilled type orebody in the Danchi Fold-and-Thrust belt, South China. • Pre-ore NE-SW shortening and syn -mineralization E-W extension deformations control the ore distribution. • Zn-, Sn-, and Sb-mineralization have taken place in order in the Wuxu district. • Cassiterites U-Pb dating reveals the tin mineralization in the Wuxu district was formed at 91–90 Ma. • Wuxu district have a great potential for tin mineralization. The Danchi fold-and-thrust belt, Guangxi, South China, contains the Mangchang, Dachang, and Wuxu large and giant Sn-polymetallic districts. It hosts more than 1.2 Mt of ore grading 1 % Sn, 6.23 Mt Zn at 2.4 %, and 1.13 Mt Sb at 1.3 %. Wuxu district is one of the Sb-Zn dominated hydrothermal districts without magmatic rocks exposing in the south of the Danchi belt. Recent drilling and exploring mining have identified a partially Sn mineralization associated with the Zn-Sb mineralization. These works provide an opportunity to evaluate the potential of tin mineralization in the south of Danchi belt and relationship among Sn, Zn, and Sb mineralization. Structural analysis suggests that the Wuxu district underwent at least three deformational phases since the Triassic. The first NE-SW shortening deformation controlled the structural framework of the Wuxu district and is expressed by NW-verging thrusts and folds, axial-plane cleavages around the core of the Wuxu anticline, transverse joint sets on the limbs of the Wuxu anticline, and dilational zones in the bedding-fractures. Afterward, an E-W extension stress field produced NS-striking normal faults and reactivated pre-existing NNW-striking faults which were expressed by sinistral top-to-the north sense of shear. During this deformation, some low order dilational spaces of the NW-striking faults and bedding-fractures formed and a syn -kinematic deposition of minerals in these hosting structures to form the ore shoots. The NNW-striking faults, axial-plane cleavages, and large dilational jogs controlled the subvertical large veins in the Jianzhupo deposit. The conjugate joints and inter-bedding fractures in the limb of the Wuxu anticlinorium controlled the branching veinlets and stratiform, paleokarst infilled ores in the Bawang deposit. The post-ore EW-striking faults are not obvious and displaced preceding two-phase structures and ores. Three primary paragenetic stages of hydrothermal process have been recognized: (I) Sphalerite dominated + massive pyrrhotite with euhedral pyrite porphyroblasts, (II) Cassiterite + siderite + arsenopyrite dominated with minor scheelite + quartz + fluorite, and (III) Jamesonite + stibnite + sulfosalt + carbonates. Cassiterite U-Pb dating provided a lower intercept age of 90.2 ± 3.1 Ma and 90.6 ± 4.6 Ma for the Jianzhupo and Bawang deposits, respectively. These two ages are consistent with the chronological data of tin-sulfides and ore-related felsic intrusions in the Danchi fold-and-thrust belt, South China. Our studies coupled with previous gravity data suggests a distal magmatic-hydrothermal infilling tin-polymetallic district and indicates that the Wuxu district has great potential for additional tin mineralization. [Display omitted] • Quartz in carbonatite-related REE deposits has distinguishable compositions. • The composition of quartz exhibits systematic, spatial variation in REE deposits. • Quartz can be used as an indicator in the exploration of REE deposits. Quartz is a common gangue mineral in many magmatic-hydrothermal ore deposits (e.g., porphyry, epithermal and skarn deposits) and its trace element composition was widely used to constrain ore genesis. Quartz is also a common phase in carbonatite-related rare earth element (REE) deposits, but its geochemical characteristics and significance for ore genesis have not previously been documented in this environment. In this contribution, we report in-situ LA-ICP-MS trace element compositions of quartz from seven carbonatite-related REE deposits, namely the Maoniuping, Lizhuang and Dalucao deposits in the Mianning-Dechang REE metallogenic belt, SW China and the Miaoya, Taipingzhen, Huangshuian and Huanglongpu deposits in the Qinling REE metallogenic belt, Central China. Rare earth element mineralization in these deposits is associated with well-developed hydrothermal systems in which the dominant REE minerals, bastnäsite, parisite, and monazite, are intergrown with aegirine-augite, arfvedsonite, calcite, fluorite, barite, and quartz. The results show that quartz grains from the carbonatite-related REE deposits are characterized by low budgets of trace elements, of which Al is generally less than 50 ppm whereas others are generally less than 10 ppm. In general, the trace element concentrations in quartz from different deposits are similar (the total concentration is commonly <50 ppm), and are distinguishable from those of quartz in other magmatic-hydrothermal systems. The low concentration of trace elements in carbonatite-related REE deposits is controlled by the unusual nature of carbonatitic magmas and their derived fluids, and thus can be used for defining the affinity of hydrothermal REE systems that are of unknown origin. Significantly, the trace element chemistry of quartz samples collected from a cross-section in the open pit of the Maoniuping REE deposit displays a systematic spatial variation such that the concentrations of Al, Ti, Na, and K decrease with increasing distance of the samples from carbonatites. This spatial variation correlates well with the variation of physio-chemical conditions during the evolution of ore-forming fluids. Recently pseudorabies outbreaks have occurred in many vaccinated farms in China. To identify genetic characteristics of pseudorabies virus (PRV) strains, we obtained the genomic sequences of PRV strains HeN1 and JS, which were compared to 4 PRV genomes and 729 partial gene sequences. PRV strains isolated in China showed marked sequence divergence compared to European and American strains. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that for the first time PRV can be divided into 2 distinct clusters, with Chinese strains being genotype II and PRVs isolated from other countries being genotype I. Restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis confirmed differences between HeN1 and Bartha strains, as did the presence of unique insertion/deletion polymorphisms and microsatellites. This divergence between the two genotypes may have been generated from long-term, independent evolution, which could also explain the low efficacy of the Bartha vaccine in protecting pigs infected with genotype II PRV. Spongy textures are observed in mantle peridotite xenoliths hosted in Cenozoic kamafugites from the Western Qinling, central China. These textures are mainly developed in clinopyroxenes and spinels, and occur as spongy rims consisting of low-Na clinopyroxene, ilmenite, and bubbles, enclosing nonspongy cores. The ilmenites and bubbles exhibit shapes and sizes that vary with the width of the spongy rims. The spongy-textured minerals preserve primary shapes and well-defined grain boundaries and do not show apparent interaction with contact minerals or observed melts except the subsequent melts forming melt pockets. The xenocrysts display reactive zoning textures with host magmas rather than spongy textures. Compositionally, the spongy rims are enriched in Ca, Ti, and most trace elements, have high Cr#, and are depleted in Na, Al, Fe, Al, and Al/Al compared with the cores. These observations suggest that melts/host magmas did not play any significant role in the formation of the spongy textures. We therefore propose that spongy-textured clinopyroxenes and spinels in Western Qinling peridotite xenoliths developed from a decompression-induced partial melting event prior to formation of melt pockets and xenolith entrainment in host magmas.
