Leading with the principle of 'people-oriented urbanization,' the adaptation of rural migrants in urban China has attracted increasing concerns from policy-makers and scholars. Today, China has proceeded to a new stage of urbanization. Many rural migrants prefer moving to cities near their home villages rather than to large cities, reflecting the changes in migration patterns and expectations of rural migrants. Although migrant adaptation has been repeatedly investigated in academia, researchers tend to address the topic in one host setting, while migrant adaptation in diverse urban settings has rarely been compared. This paper seeks to fill this research gap via a survey conducted in two cities with different urban settings in Jiangsu. The rural migrant adaptation experiences in the two cities are systematically compared. Our statistical results show that economic structure and living costs, on the one hand, and local regulations and socio-cultural environments, on the other hand, determine rural migrant adaptation experiences in different urban settings. Despite abundant employment opportunities in more-developed cities, the high living costs, working pressure, and strict institutional schemes significantly hamper rural migrant adaptation. In less-developed cities, limited employment opportunities and conservative socio-cultural environments hinder rural migrants from adapting in host societies. The research explored the temp-spatial evolution characteristics for the spatial mismatch and vulnerability among the tourism-economy-ecosystem along the Yangtze River Economic Belt by using research methods including the spatial mismatch and vulnerability based on the panel data from 2004 to 2018. The results are as follows. (1) The overall mismatch along the Yangtze River Economic Belt presented a polarized development trend within which Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang showed a typical positive mismatch and other provinces showed a negative mismatch; the overall spatial mismatch index tended to be more severe, the phenomenon of antagonism occurred more frequent and the situation of mismatch became more critical. (2) The overall vulnerability index along the Yangtze River Economic Belt presented a fluctuating trend and the healthy, risky, and severe development trends coexisted within the development process of each province’s vulnerability index. (3) The nine provinces and two cities could be decided into 3 typical categories of planned development regions by the comprehensive spatial mismatch and vulnerability index: Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Hubei belonging to developing regions; Hunan, Chongqing, and Sichuan belonging to development and protection regions; Anhui, Jiangxi, Guizhou, and Yunnan belonging to protective regions. In the end, the paper puts forward specific suggestions on how to eliminate the spatial mismatch and vulnerability situation in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from both macro and micro perspectives, so as to provide theoretical reference for the high-quality sustainable development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and other major river basins. Under the sustainability goals, how to promote the integration of port resources and reduce the ecological risks is important for the water transportation industry. Port cities in Jiangsu Province, a major coastal area in China, face a huge risk of resource waste. This paper aims to take Jiangsu as an example, understand the evolution of the spatial structure and the evolution of the water transportation industry, and explore the factors affecting development from the perspective of low-carbon development. Based on ArcGIS and multi-source data, methods such as Standard Deviation Ellipse (SDE) were used to understand the evolution, and the factors influencing the evolution at different stages were explored based on the green total factors such as industrial pollutions. It shows that the scale of the water transportation is expanding, but the industrial upgrading is not realized and has multiple agglomeration cores. The evolution was initially more affected by non-interventional factors such as geographical environment, while later the influence weakened significantly. The disordered development of water transportation industry has been worsening the current inefficient industrial structure and environmental risks. Further integration of industrial structure is needed, and strong administrative means are needed to help tap the unrealized spatial potential of resource integration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Southern Jiangsu Province has a dense water network. Under the guidance of the new concept of harmonious development between humans and nature proposed at the 19th CPC National Congress, it is of great significance to build a good spatial relationship between the town and its water system. Using the grid method, this paper calculates the fractal dimension of construction land and water space of 20 towns in Suzhou City since 1995, finding that the fractal dimension of town construction land rises rapidly, whereas that of water space drops slowly on a high dimension. In addition, the spatial form of town construction land and water space form are characterized by planar aggregation and sporadic growth respectively. The paper discusses the evolutionary characteristics of the fractal correlation of construction land and water space in towns with low-, medium-, and high-density water networks, as well as the represented spatial form relations and the underlying relationship between humans and nature. It concludes with an ecological restoration strategy of the two-way interaction between construction land and water space in different types of towns, which may provide a reference for the ecological progress of towns in southern Jiangsu Province. Determining how to reasonably allocate shelters in the central area of the city and improve evacuation efficiency are important issues in the field of urban disaster prevention. This paper introduces the methodology and mathematical model from the field of crowd emergency evacuation to shelter location optimization. Moreover, a shelter location optimization method based on the combination of static network analysis and dynamic evacuation simulation is proposed. The construction costs and evacuation times are taken as the objective functions. In the first stage, based on the static network analysis, a circular evacuation allocation rule based on the gravity model is proposed, and the genetic algorithm is then designed to solve the feasible schemes with the lowest shelter construction costs. In the second stage, the evacuation time is taken as the optimization objective. The age differences of refugees, the selection of evacuation routes, and the behavior of adults helping children and the elderly are simulated in a dynamic evacuation simulation model. The traditional social force model is improved to conduct a regional evacuation simulation and determine the optimal scheme with the shortest evacuation time. In recent years, China's air quality problem is very serious. Among them, carbon dioxide emissions have been high, which has caused a series of ecological and environmental problems. In order to deeply study the relevant problems, this paper selects the information priority damping gray model to study and predict the carbon emissions of thirty-one provinces and municipalities in China. The model can give priority to new information and adjust the prediction trend, the accuracy of the model is verified by several cases. Through the data collection and data analysis of relevant provinces and cities, it is concluded that a total of twenty-one provinces and municipalities can reach the carbon peak in 2030, of which the carbon dioxide emission of Beijing is expected to drop to 51.3774 million tons by 2030. Ten provinces will not be able to reach the carbon peak by 2030. Among them, by 2030 the carbon dioxide emission of Jiangsu Province is expected to increase to 84.4668 million tons, but the growth rate is declining. Abstract: In this paper, the time series method is used to analyze the effect of fire disasters and serious fires on monthly fire occurrence statistics in 10 cities from January 1997 to December 2001 in Jiangsu province. After removal of outliers in the irregular component of the original data series and seasonal adjustments, the intervention model is applied to quantify the effect of the fire disasters and serious fires on the total monthly fire statistics in the cities of Jiangsu province. The results show that the impact on monthly fires lasts for 3 months for eight cities and 2 months for two cities. Other phenomena are also detected in these 10 cities. Finally, some explanations for these phenomena are proposed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Urban areas in China have expanded rapidly in recent decades, which mainly resulted in the conversion of fertile cropland. As the growth of urban areas is likely to continue in the next decades, there is a need for detailed assessments of urbanization impacts on food production. However, most land use models cannot simulate different types of urban change trajectories, such as expansion and densification, which constrains their capacity to inform such assessments with sufficient detail on the patterns of urbanization. In this paper, we present a land use model that represents multiple types of settlements, which allows to simulate multiple different urban change trajectories. We applied this model to Jiangsu Province, China, and assess the impact of projected urban development between 2015 and 2030 on cropland area and crop production. Results show that population growth is accommodated by different urban change trajectories, depending on the absence or presence of land use policies to maintain food security. In the absence of policies, population growth mainly leads to urban expansion, yielding losses in both cropland area and crop production. Implementing strict cropland protection policies leads to more urban densification and all population can be accommodated without a net loss of cropland. Yet, crop production decreases in this scenario as the most productive croplands are still converted and compensated by less productive areas. Protecting crop production instead leads to a small loss in cropland area combined with cropland intensification and different types of urban change, but maintains the total crop production. These results show the relevance of more nuanced representation of urban development in land use models in order to inform land use policies. • Land use assessments should account for the variety in settlements, from towns to metropolises. • We model land use change using multiple different settlement systems. • In the absence of policies, urban growth will lead to a decline in cropland and crop production. • Protecting cropland area leads to urban densification accompanied by a decline in crop production. • It is possible to maintain crop production and still accommodate for urban growth.
