The arrival of books by dowry or inheritance into family libraries frequently introduces unexpected evidence of book ownership. Often fragmentary and out of context, these collections are routinely overlooked. This paper examines one such collection, a group of c. 140 books which arrived at Nostell Priory in 1781, part of the inheritance of Louise Sabine d'Hervart (1734–1798), shipped from her childhood home in Vevey, Switzerland. Primarily Germanic, printed between 1550 and 1700, these books chart the reading, interests, and circles of acquaintance of three generations of the Dünz family, an important Brugg dynasty of artists, glass painters, and architects active in the cultural and political life of Bern and its locality. The paper opens with a discussion of some of the methodological challenges facing those working with women's books in private libraries. It then examines the Swiss German books at Nostell, showing how they inform us of the cultural, intellectual, and social lives of members of the Dünz and related families, both male and female. Specifically, these books reveal a culture of book giving and the recording of the exchange of books, but also of close and long-standing relationships between their owners and significant members of the Swiss book trade. The influence of transnational engagements on emigrant villages has attracted noticeable scholarly attention, however, the religious dimension of the link between migration and remittances remains largely unexplored. Providing an ethnographic study exploring the dynamics and meanings involved in the growth of cemevis in villages, this paper aims to contribute to an understanding of this phenomenon, something that has received less attention in studies of migration and transnationalism. Drawing on a multi-sited ethnography of the British Alevi community in London and their villages in the Afşin-Elbistan region in Maraş province in Turkey, the paper discovers how and to what extent these transnational interactions shape places and social and religious spaces in the villages. The paper describes rural cemevis built by migrants as "remittance cemevis' that form a channel between the diaspora and homeland and allow migrant Alevis to expand their role in the village community and influence social and cultural life. A closed reading of the mobility of tribal life in West Bengal can take us to the Sundarbans in the southern fringes of Bengal; where the Santhals can be traced, who migrated from their homelands in the Chota Nagpur, to the tide country (Sundarbans) only a few centuries ago, to clear forested lands and to start cultivating the virgin land. Colonization here plays a very important role, since this migration was a direct result of the colonial barbarity on the tribal populations in the Chota Nagpur Plateau during the 18th century. Migrant labour, though is mostly understood in terms of seasonal migration, in this case, the opposite is noticed. Here, whole tribes migrated, who can also be credited as one of the first settlers in a land which was otherwise the realm of the deadly Royal Bengal Tigers (where no humans lived). In this context, the paper will seek to outline the tribal roots of the Santhals, Mundas and Oraons, who migrated from other parts of the country to the Sundarbans. The similarities in their folk traditions and religion though can be a mere coincidence, believing in which can restrict one from engaging in the fantastic possibility of rich research in the field. This paper will also address the functioning of the tribal labour at that point of time, and how it changed the whole paradigm of migration, especially the notion of mobility. This paper addresses the pedagogical implications of the "Global International Relations (GIR)" and "Worlding Beyond the West" agendas. These two programs have criticized IR's Western-centrism and offered systematic ways to expand beyond IR's Euro-Atlantic roots. Their development coincides with other high-profile theoretical and historiographic developments, not to mention societal imperatives, to expand the substantive remit of the discipline. However, the diversification agenda has been mostly concerned with the research output of IR and has treated the pedagogical side of IR's intellectual life as a secondary consideration. Proponents of the GIR and Worlding agendas have yet to convert these programs into a classroom pedagogy. This paper fills that gap. It critiques the practical and intellectual limits of GIR and Worlding pedagogies. More importantly, it provides theoretically informed ways to transpose their diversification projects into the undergraduate classroom. This paper examines how the 2022 World Cup has transformed national and cultural identity in Qatar, and residents' responses to such change. Our discussion draws on interviews with Qatari citizens and those working within Qatar's cultural, education, policy, and sports sectors, as well as document analysis. The paper is in four parts. First, we present background information on Qatar, before discussing our chosen methods. Third, we discuss four themes generated from the data. The first focuses on changes to the built environment and how this has impacted perceptions of cultural life in Qatar; second relates to how World Cup infrastructure is also seen as a continued expression of Qatar's heritage; third centred on the perspectives of Qataris as a cultural minority in their country; and fourth shed light on how certain everyday cultural practices of Qataris has survived modernization attempts, albeit, in hybrid forms. Towards the end of the colonial period the east coasts of the General Captaincy of Venezuela were the setting of an intense movement of ideas, papers and people, as well as of conspiracies and confrontments (both armed and unarmed). In that context emerged the figure of Francisco Isnardi, who would soon be imprisoned for alleged intentions to conspire. The study of this case of treason, especially of the suspect's library, which was confiscated, allows us to present a set of problems regarding the diffusion of enlightened values in Tierra Firme during that time. The article discusses English astronomer James Bradley and his discoveries regarding the aberration of light. His first scientific papers on his findings were delivered at two meetings of the Royal Society in 1729 by his mentor Edmond Halley. Amateur astronomers James Pound, Samuel Molyneux, and scientific instrument maker George Graham coordinated efforts to recreate British polymath Robert Hooke's experiment to measure annual parallax for the star Gamma Draconis. After the death of Pound in 1724, his nephew Bradley was invited to take his place. The author argues that Bradley's later versions of his scientific writings regarding the aberration of light show that Bradley was intent on garnering social status through his scientific discoveries.

The 21st century has seen the rise of a new phenomenon – the creation of statues and monuments celebrating the lives of entertainers. Drawing on debates about popular culture, placemaking and heritage, and in the context of recent controversies about the politics of statues and memorials, this paper examines a manifestation of this phenomenon as represented by statues of comedians erected in the towns of Northern England. The paper begins by sketching the characteristics of the statues and their subjects. It proceeds by reflecting on their emergence in the context of debates about the contested place of nostalgia in social and cultural theory. The paper uses a strategically selected sub-set of the statues to reflect on the emerging cultural and political imaginary of towns as sites of contemporary political struggles. It concludes by asserting that the significant affective investment into statues projects and the progressive potential of popular cultural nostalgia offer an important corrective to crude assumptions about the cultural lives of towns. The article discusses the role of books in the transmission of knowledge as social capital in India during the Mughal Empire. The author comments on the delayed adoption of printing in India and suggests that Muslim religious groups focused on the preservation of knowledge in individuals rather than through books. He comments on the memorization of the Quran in Islamic education by Muslim scholars known as Ulamā. The work of printer Bartholomaeus Ziegenbalg in Aurangbad, India and the use of his books in the takiyya, a form of dervish lodge, of Shāh Muhammad Musāfir are discussed.

In this paper, I explore an underappreciated tension between two epistemic values: epistemic autonomy and the love of truth. On the one hand, it seems as though any healthy intellectual life includes thinking about a number of issues for oneself. On the other hand, it seems as though taking inquiry seriously requires you to take the best available route to the answer, and typically that is not thinking for yourself. For nearly any question you want to investigate, there is someone who is in a better epistemic position than you are to determine the answer. In what follows, I will first clarify our central question and sharpen this novel puzzle regarding epistemic autonomy. Having done so, I will argue that autonomous deliberation can be epistemically valuable to inquirers both when it is successful, as well as when it is unsuccessful. The history of note-taking has only begun to be written. On the one hand, the basic functions of selecting, summarizing, storing and sorting information garnered from reading, listening, observing and thinking can be identified in most literate contexts in some form or other. On the other hand, Renaissance humanists emphasized with unprecedented success the virtues of stockpiling notes on large scales and for the long term, thanks to the availability of paper and a new abundance of books, but also to their ability to transmit their own keen motivation to avoid any future loss of learning. We continue to share many early modern ideals for insuring the collection and retrievability of information and have built on early modern practices that facilitate the accumulation and the organization of information, including collaborative work and the use of rearrangeable slips. With today's rapid development, the protection of cultural relics is gradually deepening. Stone coated cultural relics are the most inheritance. However, the body material of stone carut articles is extremely fragile under the influence of time and environment. It is necessary to make it easy to continue to keep; it is necessary taking the necessary protection measures. But currently used protective materials have certain defects more or less. This paper is based on this, with the purpose of extending the life of the cultural relics; it proposed the use of nanomaterial Ti02 modified common protection materials WD-10. It performed comparison by adding different concentrations of Ti02, and the microsurrant rock obtained by the ground is used as a sample to detect its protection effect. And it has achieved appropriate ratios to enhance protection performance. The experimental results of this paper showed that the concentration of Ti02 was a modification result of the modification of the concentration, and the performance was most excellent. This paper examines the psychiatric work villages in Israel, which have so far had little historiographic attention. In the 1950s and 1960s, four work villages were established for people with psychiatric disabilities. They were intended to create a long-term rehabilitative alternative to the common hospitalization practice. These villages were organized around employment in various branches of farming and also offered recreational and cultural activities to alleviate the patients' loneliness and to create a community life. The villages echoed central values of the new country: labour, manufacturing, cooperativity, and cultural and community life. I will discuss the similarities between the psychiatric work villages and earlier, mostly Western, psychiatric therapeutic models, such as moral treatment and the therapeutic community model. This paper delineates the intellectual history of endeavours to generate a unified science of child welfare in Finland in the early twentieth century by elucidating the efforts of leading Finnish protagonists to depict the concept of child welfare science. The idea of such a new science was not unique to Finland; similar trends emerged extensively throughout the industrialising world, in which child welfare was being increasingly championed. The fundamental reasons given for developing a child welfare science in Finland were linked with ambitions to develop child welfare as a consistent system in modern society. The aspiration to develop a scientific basis for child welfare was not only about adapting relevant research-based knowledge to practice, but also about creating historical and theoretical self-understanding in the field. The intention was to construct a comprehensive conceptual framework for the child welfare needed in policymaking, legislation, and systems building, as well as in the development of professional practices. Based on Carl O. Sauer's taped reflections on his own academic life, this paper outlines and offers a personal appreciation of Sauer's intellectual history. I argue that Sauer's intellectual life can be conceptualized as three dialectical developmental stages: (1) the Warrenton-Calw stage , marked by general education in his hometown environment; (2) the Chicago-Ann Arbor stage , marked by steep intellectual growth and expansion of his knowledge in geography as an academic subject; and (3) the Berkeley Stage , characterized by his Mexican field work and establishment of his own form of historical-cultural geography. This paper argues that Sauer's own intellectual curiosity, rather than any external influences, was the primary factor behind his scholarly progression to successive stages. Driven by his own curiosity, Sauer covered a wide range of research themes covering physical geography, use of fire in the development of landscape, theoretical discussion of the landscape morphology, and prehistorical agricultural origins and dispersals. The article is a response to Kaldybekov and his colleague’s, 2024 paper about Foucault’s theory on power. I argue that it is difficult to understand Foucault’s theory of power without looking into his intellectual life and experiences, especially his war experiences. The objective of my study is to show that there is a connection between Foucault’s ideas about power and his own lived life, and that he always has been critical of totalitarian theories although he seems influenced by Marxist theories, early in his career. In the paper I show how he deals with this dilemma by incorporating some of Nietzsche’s ideas into his thinking. To illustrate the connection between Foucault’s lived life and his theories about power, I take a particular point of departure in Foucault’s lecture series on psychiatric power in the 1970s and an interview conducted by the Italian journalist Trombadori. In 21st-century Ireland, Canada and the Great Britain, significant changes to sexual and gender legislation, abortion access and associated social and cultural life include the legalisation of same-sex marriage, employment rights, access to abortion and self-identification/gender recognition. This paper draws on interviews from the Beyond Opposition research to explore the experiences of those who are concerned about and/or actively oppose these socio-legal changes. We consider participants understandings of themselves as losing power within social relations and the ways in which their positionings can be seen as excluded or marginalised in public spaces. Examining their experiences of public space offers insights into experiences of new power relations, including state sanctions, that contest binaries of marginalisation/privilege. These positions between marginalisation/privilege, illustrate the effectiveness and limitations of framing these views as 'unacceptable' in public arenas. In his essay "Components of the National Culture", Perry Anderson claimed that although Britain was home to a "flourishing" clinical analytic practice, the impact of psychoanalysis on British culture had been "virtually nil". But the edited collection is invested in the workings - indeed the life - of psychoanalysis, raising questions about the relationship between psychoanalysis and history and psychoanalysis and literature, and what kind of communities psychoanalysis might generate, especially as it attends to the gendered and racial formations in which it is complicit. Current studies on Ibn Taymiyya's influence on the intellectual life of the Ottoman Empire focus on the mid‐sixteenth and the early seventeenth centuries. In this paper, I argue that Ibn Taymiyya's influence on some aspects of Ottoman intellectual life can be traced, indirectly, to the beginning of the fifteenth century. Through studying the attitudes of some scholars toward Ibn ʿArabī and his ideas, I argue that these attitudes were affected by the outflow of Ibn Taymiyya's ideas. How did these ideas leak into the Ottoman intellectual milieu? Unexpectedly, it seems that Sufism played an important role in spreading some of Ibn Taymiyya's ideas in an indirect way. This paper discusses three possible ways through which Ibn Taymiyya's thought may have circulated in the Ottoman Empire as early as the fifteenth century: a scholar, a book, and a Sufi order. In the Kabbalah creation myth, God creates the universe by "stepping back", releasing ten holy vessels with his light—only to have those vessels shatter with shards of divine light, or "shards" scattered throughout the earth. In a parallel approach, this paper suggests that the sacred must be sought in diverse encounters within everyday life and professional practice. In counseling or other therapeutic support, the definition of and search for spiritual dimensions must be broadened to thoughtfully incorporate the diverse experiences and expressions of people with intellectual disabilities. Similarly, those who seek to understand people's relationship with the divine and support meaning in their lives must welcome a wide range of "artistic" engagements, an approach exemplified in grief and loss intervention. The purpose of the article is to showcase the archival material of Concert Management Maribor. It operated under the auspices of various cultural organisations from 1946 to 1992, when the tradition of one of the most important programmes of cultural life in Maribor was perpetuated and upgraded by the public institution Cultural and Event Centre Narodni dom Maribor. The Concert Management Maribor's archives contain information on the organisation's operations, sponsorship agreements, event statistics, correspondence, advertising materials, photographs, media articles, and dedications as well as autographs from prominent musicians, among other things. In 2022, it was acquired by the Regional Archives of Maribor for the period between 1946 and 1992. The descriptive method, the analysis of newspaper sources, and the analysis of preserved documentation were used in the preparation of the paper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study is inscribed in the frameworks of the history of ideas in our America, as a concern to understand what was expressed about culture by this generation of Latin American Boom writers; whose phenomenon, with multiple objects of study, manages to interact the spheres of cultural life in the region from the sixties of the last century: the literary, the political, the editorial, the aesthetic; all dimensions necessary to generate more satisfactory and nuanced definitions than those presented by the critical-analytical apparatuses that reduce it to a movement, generation, group or literary style. This paper joins the effort to investigate and create more complete definitions for this phenomenon through the following methodologies: literary historiography, Mikhail Bakhtin's theory of literary chronotopes and the thematic study of the literary corpus produced by the Latin American boom. Discussions on daily life in Early Bronze Age society in the southern Levant often focus on subsistence or ritual phenomena, while aspects relating to entertainment and leisure are rarely discussed. This paper presents evidence for gaming behaviour, in the form of game boards and game pieces, that were recovered in the excavations of the Early Bronze Age (early to mid-3rd millennium bce) residential neighbourhood at Tell eṣ-Ṣâfi/Gath, Israel. All the objects discussed are considered to be part of games (playing pieces, casting pieces, and boards) based on their resemblance to game boards and pieces published from various Early Bronze sites in the southern Levant (e.g., Arad, Megiddo, and Bab edh-Dhra), serve as the backdrop for: 1) a perspective on the social and cultural relationships reflected in these games; 2) an examination of the origins of the 'Senet/30 Houses' game; and 3) the appropriation of foreign cultural facets in Early Bronze Age Canaan. Access to transport for older people is inherently related to the right to lead an independent life and to participate in social and cultural life with dignity. Yet often transport planning strategies prioritise the smooth flow of urban commuters, while people over the age of 60 are at risk of experiencing marginalisation and inequality. In this paper, we consider the mobility patterns of a group of seniors who regularly travel by public transport to Sydney, Australia for more than an hour a day. We argue that geographical perspectives are important for understanding how disincentivising seniors from travelling at rush hour may result in a range of negative health and social outcomes. In this research we consider how seniors in fact may benefit from travelling in rush hour materially, socially, and emotionally. Drawing on the optic of mobility justice we examine the felt intensities of using public transport and the inequalities that manifest in corporeal density. This serves to highlight how agency enables people to go against policy aims to reduce senior travel at peak times and how mobility justice is a useful heuristic to dispute power dynamics in specific transport modes. The turn of the 20th century in China was characterized by changes in political, economic, and cultural life. These changes were inevitably accompanied by a need to enrich the Chinese lexical system. This paper takes economic terms as an example and investigates the techniques applied in creating the new terminological system. The analyzed sample includes 1,150 lexical units of one-word and multiword units chosen proportionally from different branches of economics. In principle, economic terms in modern Chinese, similarly to terms in other branches of sciences, are created: 1) by borrowing the foreign phonemic or graphic shape, 2) by reproduction of foreign models using native word-formation procedures, and 3) as native new-creations coined either independently or induced by foreign models. Moreover, the paper argues that the technique of phonemic reproduction of foreign models, popular in European languages, has not been widely applied because of linguistic factors. Thus, the internationalization of Chinese scientific terminology is not based on the direct borrowing of Greco-Latin terms but has to be understood as an imitation of them by the native word-formation procedures applying morphemes more or less corresponding to the meaning of those of the presumed models. The Uruguayan writer Blanca Luz Brum was an active part of the cultural and socio-political life of different Latin American cities for several decades. However, her ideological estrangement from socialism, as well as her intense love life, earned her disqualification and oblivion. The aim of this paper is to rescue her figure through the analysis of her texts published in the magazine Amauta between 1926 and 1929, taking into account the author's poetics and the role that her poems occupy in the magazine. The study will reveal the double aspect of her poetry: one that is political, gimmicky and has a propagandistic and mobilizing character; and the personal one, which is more complex, deep and reflects the most intimate side of Blanca Luz. The paper deals with the impacts of hosting the European Capital of Culture (ECOC) by the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv in 2019 through the lens of the local community. Based on a survey conducted in 2021 with 444 residents, the perceived effects of the initiative were discussed in four domains: (1) Cultural, (2) Economic, (3) Social, and (4) Urban environment and atmosphere. Descriptive statistics techniques and analysis of variance were applied to interpret the data and outline the differences in the perceptions affected by respondents’ socio-demographic characteristics. The findings indicate that in general, the ECOC impacts are perceived rather positively, although the locals are hesitant if benefits outweigh the costs incurred. None of the impacts is perceived as high by the survey participants, with mean values of agreement hardly reaching four on a 5-grade scale. The most recognized positive effects refer to the city’s cultural life and the opportunities for local artists to perform; next come benefits for tourism development and promotion along with improvements in urban environment and infrastructure resulting from the ECOC implementation. Less clearly perceived are negative effects such as the price rise and the preference given to tourists over the locals. Significant differences in perceptions are determined by respondents’ education, personal involvement in the ECOC organization, age, gender, and sphere of professional activity. However, such differences are found in roughly half of all 22 statements under study, meaning that certain perceptions depend on the socio-demographic profile while others do not. Although numerous professions that have arisen throughout history have been forgotten for various reasons, some of the professions that have a history of thousands of years still remain. After the discovery of writing, with the ancient people's lifestyle, important information about the various professions they were engaged in began to be recorded. The development of written culture accelerated scientific progress and sociocultural segregation among people. The improvement of the composed culture of the people and societies of the world incorporates books, dictionaries, reference books, andhas increased the historical significance of scientific resources. Dictionaries are one of the scientific sources that best reflect the periods of the scientific, cultural, economic, and social development of society. The dictionary "Sihâhul-Furs" of the Azerbaijani linguist and eminent socio-political personality Muhammad ibn Hindushah Nâkhchîvanî, who lived at the end of the 12th century to the beginning of the 13th century, contains very valuable information about the professions of ancient people living in the world. This dictionary, written during the Ilkhanid dynasty, reflects the social, political and cultural life of that period. Nowadays, numerous occupations and arts related to Persian, Arabic, Turkish, Pahlavi, Sumerian, etc. languages have been forgotten. Some of the types of professions recorded in the "Sihâhul-Furs" dictionary still exist in the world. The aim of this paper is to examine in Cicero's oratory speeches the criticisms of his opponents regarding either their lack of erudition or their poor intellectual abilities. From our viewpoint, this original locus of invective is closely linked to the consolidation of a new intellectual nobilitas at the end of the Roman Republic and is especially relevant in the context of Cicero's return from exile. On the basis of first-hand materials, interviews with experts and personal archives on university education, this paper retraces the evolution of the reception of Hegel in Quebec. The article is divided into two parts: the first seeks, in the teaching of philosophy at the turn of the twentieth century to the 1960s, the traces of Hegelian thought; the second evaluates the place of the philosopher in contemporary research since that time. We first look at the teaching of philosophy. It is through minor sources, on the margins of dedicated textbooks, that we find an intellectual life that evolves despite the dominant orthodoxy of Thomist thought. The study of Hegel's reception then makes it possible to question the historiography that tends to hypostatize the tutelary power of scholastic over teaching. The reworking of education following the apostolic constitution of 1931, the postwar boom and the massification of education that accompanied the many reforms of the 1960s, transformed the university space. The history of sociology as a subfield has long aimed to describe the historical developments of the discipline, within which national traditions offer unique voices while also contributing to a global sociology. How do various sociological paradigms and national traditions approach social reality in similar and different ways? This paper examines Russian and Japanese contributions to the history of sociology by reviewing some of their major concepts and perspectives. On this basis, this paper seeks to probe into the past and present self‐understandings of the two sociological traditions, as well as their potentials for a more active role in global sociological discourse. Both countries have a history of protracted isolation, which has made them more or less invisible in the international sociological community. However, Russian and Japanese sociological traditions exist and are ready to be tapped, even as their production and mobilization of intellectual resources remain strongly embedded in their politics, cultures, and societies. This paper is an investigation of attempts at endogenization and indigenization in the history of sociology in Japan. The author begins by presenting a short history of Japanese sociology. While the issues of endogenization and indigenization had been raised in the 1910s, imperialism and the militarization of the Emperor state and society blocked this form of development. Japanese social sciences have thus mainly followed the model of Western social sciences. The issue of indigenization gained attention after World War II and especially after the late 1960s, which was a time of reflection on the extreme influence of American sociology. In this context, this paper investigates the development of Kazuko Tsurumi's sociology, which is one of the best examples of work that deals with the issue of indigenization. Tsurumi analyzes social change from pre‐World War II to post‐World War II Japan by drawing on sociological functionalism. However, Tsurumi suggests that Kunio Yanagita's theory of folklore and ethnology provides a stronger explanatory framework than functionalism, and contends that Kumagusu Minaka has developed an approach rooted in East Asia. Tsurumi advances this indigenous development theory based on the work of Yanagita and Minakata, and at the same time internationalizes this theory. This paper explores how a small group of young Australian Muslim women are engaging with the discourses of gender, religion and culture in their lives. It draws on data gathered from a study that evaluated aprogramme designed to support learning and public action for human rights. The paper highlights these young women's experiences of the double bind of racism and patriarchy in their lives around familial/community and public ideas about what it means to be a good Muslim woman. In light of this burden of representation, the paper draws attention to the ambivalences of responsibility and risk the young women express about speaking out against the issues that concern them. Local government cemetery management is an unexplored area of public administration, and this paper begins to tackle that gap by exploring the role of cultural competency in the role. Based on a content analysis of interviews with 35 municipal cemetery managers throughout the U.S., I find cultural competence manifests in several ways: racial segregation even in death; intersectional identities; and funeral economics. Known as a nationalist and promoter of Filipino Epistemology, Abadilla's intellectual life as a writer, teacher, and member of causedoriented group is compared to the characteristics of Filipinolohiya/Filipinology of PUP. Using content analysis method, this paper answersthe following questions: Who is Bayani S. Abadilla as a scholar and founder of Filipinol-ohiya/Filipinology? What are the characteristics of and how has this kind of Filipinolohiya in PUP been established? What is the current status of Filipinolohiya in PUP? In line with this, the paper is divided into three sections: the intellectual life of Bayani S.Abadilla, characteristics and history of his Filipinology, and its current status in PUP. This paper studies the intellectual life and production of Ernesto A. Constantino (1930-2016). Through an intellectual biography, Constantino's ideas are interpreted and contextualized in the bigger history of his society. This paper shows the status of Constantino as a pillar of linguistics and language planning in the Philippines. Constantino became very active in participating in two constitutional conventions (1971-1972 and 1986), where one of the most important issues tackled was the provision on national language. A linguist and a true advocate of national unity and identity, Constantino offered a solution to what can be called "language regionalism" through the universal approach in developing the national language now called Filipino. This paper is divided into four substantive sections: (1) biography of Constantino, (2) Constantino as a linguist, (3) Constantino and language planning, and (4) Constantino as a folklorist. In the end, the paper emphasizes the significant contributions of Constantino not only to his field but also to the Filipino society in general. The paper is dedicated to the issues of how Ukrainian and Polish liturgical translation progressed in the early modern time, what functions it performed in the social life of the two nations and which mutual influences might have occurred in the historical perspective. The choice of comparing and contrasting these two nations is defined by the very fact that during this period, they co-existed in the same state: the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The main factors which determined the advancement of this translation field were the reactions to historical challenges (the expansion of neighbouring countries; the necessity to preserve one’s own identity; the response to the Protestant movement) as well as the development of book-printing (the rise of new book types containing and popularising various texts for liturgical use). Despite the restrained use of the vernacular (Polish was not allowed according to the rulings of the Council of Trent and Ukrainian was overshadowed by Church Slavonic), liturgical translation took its place in the cultural life of the Commonwealth, though the Renaissance is the period of great expectations, experiments and attempts, while the Enlightenment look like the time of spiritual inertia with modest results. The objective of this paper was to investigate Lorna Washington's life path. She was a transformist artist of great relevance in the LGBTQIA+ artistic world considering her life as a work of art. The most important facts of her life trajectories were his affirmation as a man, gay, activist, and crossdressing artist, in an ongoing effort to assert her art as an expression of her life. Our study sought to address her life experience as a scientific historical fact insofar as she was considered a subject of knowledge, from the perspective of the ecologies of knowledge, without exact chronological concern, but rather presenting the facts as events on the surface of the space to highlight her strategies and tactics of insertion into everyday life as cultural resistance and territorial political experience. This paper puts forward a threefold proposal relating to the ethics exposed by Henry Thoreau in Walden: (1) the definition of his concept of luxury, in light of how the subject has been approached from various historical and philosophically relevant positions; (2) the recognition of poverty as a fundamental concept for Thoreau's ethical proposal in Walden and the aims of thoreauvian economy, and (3) a reading of Walden as a structured text that goes from the individual requirements of human life to social and cultural necessities. These three points will be connected through the critical practice of voluntary poverty that Thoreau argues for, in the sense of a pragmatic doubt about the habits and search for the necessary elements of life. Analysing the affective geographies of digitally mediated payday loans in the UK, this paper advocates and exemplifies an approach to cultural economy that focuses on how economic worlds are affectively animated and lived. Supplementing the two versions of "culture" that cultural economy approaches have to date been organised around – culture as signifying system or culture as assembled effect – we propose a cultural economy of everyday space‐times which is attuned to the affective composition of forms of living. Drawing on empirical work with 40 users of digitally mediated payday loans, we employ this approach to trace how their loans become part of three intersecting forms of living: relief, as a pressing concern is deferred to the immediate future; separation, as private spaces are created within ordinary life and obligations are felt as individual responsibilities; and pressure, as demands to pay intensify the sense that debt is spiralling out of control and already‐ongoing precarity cannot be sustained. In conclusion, we pose further questions for a cultural economy approach orientated to the analysis of forms of living. In Taking Care of Youth and the Generations, Bernard Stiegler develops an account of the pedagogical responsibilities which follow from rhythmic intergenerational flows, involving the creation of milieus which care for and pay attention to the future, toward the creation of nootechnical milieus. Such milieus are defined by their objects of attention: intellectual life, spiritual life, and political life; taken together: noetic life. Such is the claim Alfred North Whitehead makes when arguing that the sole object of education is life and the creation of an art of life which is itself a rhythmic adventure. The purpose of this paper is three-fold. First, to clarify the importance of Stiegler's reading of Aristotle's notion of the noetic soul in our thinking about the role, purpose, and function of educational institutions in relation to intellective, spiritual, and political life. In this paper, I will fuse this discussion with a Whiteheadian approach to rhythm, developing what I call a 'rhythmic nootechnics' in the service of 'nootechnical evolution' as, I argue, Whitehead's approach to rhythm allows to clarify and enrich Stiegler's reading of Aristotle. Second, and as indicated, to explore the relationship between Whitehead and Stiegler, insofar as the former has become an increasing reference point for the latter, but this relationship remains unexplored in the literature. Third, to apply this concept of 'rhythmic nootechnics' to think about what transformations at the level of pedagogy and politics are necessary to reinvent the university from this Stieglerian and Whiteheadian perspective. It examines the flurry of printed materials circulated in the wake of the theatrical production, tracing The Tempest 's migration from performance to print and back again. By charting how audiences and readers encountered the play beyond the playhouse, Stephen Watkins argues that we will begin to more accurately assess the role that commercial drama played in the cultural and imaginative lives of the people it originally entertained. The paper presents the history of the city of Reşiţa between 3 July 1771, when the first furnace became operational, and the year 2021, when Reşiţa University became part of Babeş-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, highlighting the major moments in the industrial and political history of the Banat Highlands: the Revolution of 1848–1849, the purchase of the local mills by the StEG, which integrated them in the larger European family of the heavy industry, the period of economic liberalism after 1918, the communist period and, finally, the post-communist period. The drastic reduction in industrial activity after 1990 was one of the greatest blows suffered by the region. The last decade of the communist period also saw the massive emigration of local Germans, followed into exile by many Romanians. However, the most important feature of this industrial city was the cohabitation by several ethnic groups, which shaped a lifestyle and a civil society with a vivid cultural life, carried out in the framework of book clubs, musical and canto associations, chamber orchestras, and also within the sports and leisure movement. The discourse on tolerance has become axiomatic for political and cultural life in the era of (post-)liberal modernity. In the event of any form of violence, the discourse is invoked as a 'solution' to 'intolerance'. But what if we considered the tolerance discourse itself as an axiom of violence? Its discursive labour creates configurations of power relations that transform the existing human affairs and relations into fixed conditions and categories of difference. Instead of taking tolerance as an analytical proxy, this paper ethnographically elucidates how the tolerance discourse is refused and resisted with the social grammars, practices and ethical vernaculars of care, mercy and solidarity. By focusing on the spaces of public kitchens in postwar Bosnia and Herzegovina and the ethics of immediacy they engender, I explore the actually existing forms of living with difference beyond the threshold of tolerance discourses. Buddhism developed from the teachings of the Buddha, whose origins are believed to be in North India between the 6th and 4th centuries. Spreading from India to Central and Southeast Asia, China, Korea and Japan, Buddhism has played a central role in the cultural and social life of Asia. Presently, Buddhism has reached every corner of the world through its teachings. The main reason for this is the message of world peace. Peace is the basic foundation of human civilization. Without the ideals of peace, human civilization cannot exist and human civilization will become meaningless without peace. However, peace has been troubled by various forms of war and violence at various stages of human history. Thus, alternatively, Buddhism teaches real feeling and peace as a feeling that must come from inside and not from outside sources. Buddhist precepts always inspire harmony between human beings, though dependent on inner companions. Buddhism believes in helping others as a good deal. Therefore, peace has a very important role in human life and civilization. Post‐phenomenology has emerged as a diverse and conceptually challenging movement within human geography, one that is now positioned at the forefront of debates concerning the more‐than‐human constitution of social and cultural life. In recent years, these conversations have been further energised through the influence of various "object‐oriented ontologies" on post‐phenomenological thinking. By questioning the ontological primacy of the intentional subject, object‐oriented approaches have enabled geographers to problematise the anthropocentricism of phenomenology's Husserlian tradition. While sympathetic to the overall spirit of these endeavours, this paper takes issue with a significant and often unacknowledged constraint placed on post‐phenomenology by object‐oriented approaches: the reduction of reality to a collection of individuated terms. By merely replacing one kind of individual (subject) with another (object), object‐oriented ontology inherits an image of thought that remains profoundly phenomenological in its privileging of individuals over relations. Turning to the work of Gilles Deleuze, this paper strives to resituate geography's post‐phenomenological critique upstream of either subject or object, focusing instead on the distinction between relations and terms. For Deleuze, to think beyond phenomenological coordinates is to affirm the irreducibility of relations to individuated terms, whatever form these terms might take. Returning to his early work on Hume, the paper explores how Deleuze's invocation to think relations as such raises important questions in terms of how geographers situate the problem of post‐phenomenology within contemporary social research. I conclude by reflecting on the practical implications of these questions for thinking beyond objects, paying particular attention to three key themes within human geography: relationality, materiality and empiricism. This paper explores the relevance of Deleuze's philosophy for broadening post‐phenomenological geographies beyond the current interest in objects. Turning to Deleuze's early writings on the philosophy of David Hume, the paper suggests the need for a more thoroughgoing critique of the phenomenological tradition, one that is no longer based on the ontological primacy of the individual.
