With the three-dimensional (3D) geological information system development, 3D geological cross-sections (GCs) have become the primary data for geological work and scientific research. Throughout past geological surveys or research works, a lot of two-dimensional (2D) geological cross-section maps have been accumulated, which struggle to meet the scientific research and application needs of 3D visual expression, 3D geological analysis, and many other aspects. Therefore, this paper proposes an automatic generation method for 3D GCs by increasing the dimensions based on a digital elevation model (DEM) and 2D geological cross-section maps. By matching corresponding nodes, generating topographic feature lines, constructing an affine transformation matrix, and inferring the elevation value of each geometric node on the GC, the 3D transformation of the 2D GCs is realized. In this study, fourteen 2D GCs within Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, are transformed into 3D GCs using the proposed method. The transformed results and quantitative error show that: (1) the proposed method applies to both straight and bent GCs; (2) each transformed GC can fit seamlessly with the ground and maintain minimal geometric deformation, and the geometric shape is consistent with the original GC in non-mountains area. This paper corroborated the proposed method's effectiveness by comparing it with the other two 3D transformation strategies. In addition, the transformed GCs can be subjected to 3D geological modeling and digital Earth presentation, achieving positive effects in both 3D application and representation. Due to the strategic emerging industrial cluster includes different types of subjects, their interaction will affect the industrial economy and innovation capacity. According lo the data of strategic emerging enterprises, this paper constructs the economic 2-mode network and innovative 2-mode network composed of the strategic emerging industries and regions, respectively, according to the main business income and the number of effective patents of enterprises. Using the centrality of social network analysis to measure the structural characteristics of the 2-mode network, this paper analyzes the development status and evolution trend of strategic emerging industrial clusters. Then the three-dimensional grey correlation model is used to evaluate the innovation ability of each region with strategic emerging industrial clusters. Finally, an empirical study is carried out with Jiangsu province's strategic emerging industrial cluster as a typical case. The results show that: (1)The new generation of informational technology, biological industry, and high-end equipment manufacturing industry all have high centrality in the network, and they are located in an important position in the network. It shows that these three industries have strong economic effects and innovation ability and have a strong ability to control inter-enterprise and inter-regional informational transfer, while the digital creative industry has low centrality and is still in its initial stage located at the edge of the network. (2) The network centrality of Nanjing and Suzhou has always ranked first and second, indicating that these two regions have the highest influence on the network. The strategic emerging industrial clusters of Nanjing and Suzhou are relatively well-developed, and the innovation and economy have formed a positive interaction effect in these industrial clusters. (3) The innovation ability Of strategic emerging industrial clusters in Suzhou, Wuxi, and Nanjing is relatively strong, while the innovation ability of strategic emerging industrial clusters iii Taizhou and Yancheng is relatively weak. The landslide mechanism and failure mode of the gently sloping Piedmont region are analyzed in Fangshan and Zhutoushan hills in the Nanjing area of Jiangsu Province, China. These hills are underlain by volcanic rocks and have a distinctive stratigraphic structure composed of fill or clay at the surface, coarse-grained soil or fully weathered rock in the middle, and highly or moderately weathered rock at the bottom. Landslides occurred during or after heavy rainfall, and the monitored displacements of the slope surface indicated that sliding had not stopped after a long period of continuous rainfall. Through monitoring of groundwater and simulation, we found that the low-permeability highly weathered rock can restrict the activity of the lower aquifer, resulting in a rapid rise of pore pressure and formation of confined water in response to rainfall, which can lead to slope failure. We discuss the mechanism and avulsed–drifted failure mode of the landslides considering seepage deformation and pressure balance. Finally, we propose appropriate control measures for these landslides. The results of this paper will contribute to prevention of similar landslide geological hazards. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• A grey multivariate model with dynamic sinusoidal term is proposed. • The Moore-Penrose generalized inverse matrix is used in the least square method. • The validation set is introduced to the training process of model parameters. • The relationship between sample size and model accuracy is discussed. To solve the problem that the grey multivariate prediction model cannot well simulate systems with periodic oscillations, a novel multivariate grey model called the GM(1,N|sin) power model is proposed. The power exponential term and dynamic sinusoidal function are developed to represent the nonlinear relationship and periodic oscillations of the independent and dependent variables in the proposed model, respectively. First, the discrete time response formula for generating the simulated values at each time point is given. Second, the nonlinear programming model based on the particle swarm optimization algorithm is established to solve the power exponential and periodic coefficients. In addition, to enhance the generalization ability of the parameters, an improved nonlinear programming model considering the accuracy of the validation set is constructed. Finally, in the case studies, the quarterly electricity consumption of Jiangsu Province and PM 2.5 concentrations in Nanjing are adopted to test the effectiveness of this model, and the results are obtained respectively through the GM(1,N|sin) power model and alternative models. By investigating the transformation of Nanjing's suburban countryside, this paper examines the relationship between the city and its immediate periphery and the political underpinnings of rural-urban integration. It traces the changing status of a suburban village over the last half century from a vegetable-producing collective to a remnant rural settlement in a predominantly urban landscape. Its evolution brings to light the condition of a protracted, incremental and still incomplete urbanization. "Becoming urban" is more complex than the measurable shifts to nonagricultural activities and the urban household registration. Global navigation satellite system reflectometry technology (GNSS-R) is rarely used for river flow velocity inversion, and in particular, there is currently no research using the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System reflectometry technology (BDS-R) for river flow velocity inversion. In this paper, a carrier phase observation of river flow velocity inversion model is proposed. The interference phase is the integral of the Doppler frequency. The raw intermediate frequency (IF) data sets are processed through an open-loop method to obtain the Doppler frequency observation generated by river flow and then realize velocity inversion. The shore-based river current measurement was conducted on the south bank of Dashengguan Yangtze River in Nanjing city, Jiangsu Province, for nearly two hours on 22 April 2021. After realizing the inversion of river flow velocity in GPS L1, the combined inversion of BDS B1I GEO satellite and IGSO satellite is realized for the first time, which demonstrates the feasibility of river flow velocity inversion using BDS reflected signals. Compared with the real river flow velocity, the GPS L1 PRN 4 (1st period) inversion precision reaches up to 0.028 m/s (mean absolute error, MAE) and 0.036 m/s (root mean square error, RMSE). In parallel, BDS GEO 2 inversion precision can reach 0.048 m/s (MAE) and 0.063 m/s (RMSE), and BDS IGSO 10 inversion precision is 0.061 m/s (MAE) and 0.073 m/s (RMSE). These results illustrate that satellite elevation change rate and distance between specular points and current meter may have a negative effect on the accuracy of river flow velocity inversion. Specular points obstructed by obstacles or too far from the velocity meter may introduce uncertain error in both MAE and RMSE. Neither the satellite elevation nor the signal strength has an obvious correlation with inversion precision, which is consistent with the theoretical principle. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: For the Xiashu loess–palaeosol sequence in Nanjing, China, further to our work on the cyclic variability in its chemical composition and swelling-shrinkage properties [Xia, J., Huang, G.L., Liu, Z. T., Chen, X.M., 2007. Cyclic variability in chemical composition and swelling–shrinkage properties of the Xiashu loess stratum near Nanjing, China. Pedosphere 17 (5), 666–672.], this paper studies the cyclic variability in its microstructure and physico-mechanical properties and the corresponding influence on its engineering behaviour for geotechnical and geological practices. In addition, the cyclic variability in the soil''s grain-size distribution and geochemical characteristics is compared with that of the loess–palaeosol sequences at two other sites in China, indicating a geographical pattern of cyclic variation of the sequences. The article presents highlights of the 10th China Drying Conference (CDC) in Nanjing City, China from September 21-24, 2005. Three parallel oral presentation sessions were conducted, in which around 60 papers were distributed. CDC 2005 papers focused on the basics of drying, modeling and simulation of drying, drying of food and agricultural materials, and osmotic dehydration and drying.
