Timely and effective fault diagnosis of sensors is crucial to enhance the working efficiency and reliability of the aeroengine. A new intelligent fault diagnosis scheme combining improved pattern gradient spectrum entropy (IPGSE) and convolutional neural network (CNN) is proposed in this paper, aiming at the problem of poor fault diagnosis effect and real-time performance when CNN directly processes one-dimensional time series signals of aeroengine. Firstly, raw fault signals are converted into spectral entropy images by introducing pattern gradient spectral entropy (PGSE), which is used as the input of CNN, because of the great advantage of CNN in processing images and the simple and rapid calculation of the modal gradient spectral entropy. The simulation results prove that IPGSE has more stable distinguishing characteristics. Then, we improved PGSE to use particle swarm optimization algorithm to adaptively optimize the influencing parameters (scale factor λ), so that the obtained spectral entropy graph can better match the CNN. Finally, CNN mode is proposed to classify the spectral entropy diagram. The method is validated with datasets containing different fault types. Abstract Multi-sensor data fusion technology plays an important role in real applications. Because of the flexibility and effectiveness in modeling and processing the uncertain information regardless of prior probabilities, Dempster–Shafer evidence theory is widely applied in a variety of fields of information fusion. However, counter-intuitive results may come out when fusing the highly conflicting evidences. In order to deal with this problem, a novel method for multi-sensor data fusion based on a new belief divergence measure of evidences and the belief entropy was proposed. First, a new Belief Jensen–Shannon divergence is devised to measure the discrepancy and conflict degree between the evidences; then, the credibility degree can be obtained to represent the reliability of the evidences. Next, considering the uncertainties of the evidences, the information volume of the evidences are measured by making use of the belief entropy to indicate the relative importance of the evidences. Afterwards, the credibility degree of each evidence is modified by taking advantage of the quantitative information volume which will be utilized to obtain an appropriate weight in terms of each evidence. Ultimately, the final weights of the evidences are applied to adjust the bodies of the evidences before using the Dempster's combination rule. A numerical example is illustrated that the proposed method is feasible and effective in handling the conflicting evidences, where the belief value of target increases to 99.05%. Furthermore, an application in fault diagnosis is given to demonstrate the validity of the proposed method. Sensor fault diagnosis is necessary to ensure the normal operation of a gas turbine system. However, the existing methods require too many resources and this need can't be satisfied in some occasions. Since the sensor readings are directly affected by sensor state, sensor fault diagnosis can be performed by extracting features of the measured signals. This paper proposes a novel fault diagnosis method for sensors based on wavelet entropy. Based on the wavelet theory, wavelet decomposition is utilized to decompose the signal in different scales. Then the instantaneous wavelet energy entropy (IWEE) and instantaneous wavelet singular entropy (IWSE) are defined based on the previous wavelet entropy theory. Subsequently, a fault diagnosis method for gas turbine sensors is proposed based on the results of a numerically simulated example. Then, experiments on this method are carried out on a real micro gas turbine engine. In the experiment, four types of faults with different magnitudes are presented. The experimental results show that the proposed method for sensor fault diagnosis is efficient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
