Thrixspermum taeniophyllum is described as a new orchid species from Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province of southwest China. It is morphologically similar to T. japonicum, but it differs from the latter in having branched stems, slightly fleshy strapshaped leaves, longer inflorescences with 3–6 flowers and a capitate gynandrium with a lip-shaped mouth opening. Its species status is also supported by molecular phylogenetic analyses, based on nuclear ribosome internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) and three chloroplast DNA fragments (matK, psbA-trnH and trnL-F), which showed distinct systematic boundaries from the most morphologically similar T. japonicum and their morphological relatives T. saruwatarii and T. pygmaeum. This paper describes and illustrates a new species of Primulaceae, Primula wolongensis sp. nov. from Wolong National Nature Reserve in Sichuan Province, China. It is very rare and currently only known from its type locality. The new species belongs to subsection Chartacea of the section Petiolares on account of lacking bud scales at flowering, being efarinose and having distinct petiolate leaves with more or less rounded lamina. The new species can be differentiated from other members of the subsection by leaf blade margin dentate, and leaf veins which are not raised, scape shorter than or equal to pedicels, yellow flowers and location of stamens of the corolla tube at thrum flower. Molecular phylogenetic analysis based on nuclear ribosome internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) demonstrated that P. wolongensis was sister to subgen. Auriculastrum. Gastrochilus heminii (Orchidaceae), a new orchid species from Sichuan Province, Southwest China, is described and illustrated. It morphologically resembles G. affinis and G. yei, but differs markedly from the former in having a thinner and slightly rolled downwards reniform epichile and the central thickened purple-red mat with irregular folds (vs. subtriangular epichile curves upwards, with 2 thick, brown to purplish- brown median ridges from base to apex), and can be clearly distinguished from the latter by having reniform epichile with lobed apex and subconical hypochile with bilobed apex that splits into two conical protrusions (vs. semi-rounded epichile not lobed and subconical hypochile not bilobed). The results of molecular phylogenetic analysis based on nuclear ribosome internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) and four chloroplast DNA fragments (matK, psbA-trnH, psbM-trnD, and trnL-F) of 36 Gastrochilus species showed that G. heminii was closely related to G. affinis and G. distichus. Ponerorchis wolongensis, a new orchid species from the Hengduan Mountains, western Sichuan, China, is described and illustrated here based on morphological and phylogenetic evidence. Morphologically, the new species is similar to P. capitata, but they can easily be differentiated by the number of leaves and flowers, the shape of leaves, and the mid‐lobe of the labellum. Phylogenetically, based on seven DNA sequences, the new species is more close to P. sichuanica, but these two species are very different in both growth habit and morphological characteristics. Inorganic carbon has profound influence on anammox system and distinct microbial communities play pivotal roles in nitrogen removal, yet little is known about the ecological patterns of abundant and rare sub-communities in response to inorganic carbon stresses in simultaneous anammox and denitrification systems. Here the aspects of community ecology of abundant and rare taxa under abiotic constraints were explored. Results showed that different IC/NH 4 + -N ratios have significant influences on NH 4 + -N and TN removal. Co-occurrence networks revealed that abundant and rare taxa present contrasting assemblage patterns and ecological strategies. Spearman’s correlation indicated that environmental filtering had discrepancy influences on these two bacterial sub-communities. Moreover, rare taxa were the key regulators for NH 4 + -N accumulation and NO 2 − -N consumption. qPCR results indicated that nitrogen removal was mediated by multiple nitrogen transformation pathways. These findings collectively suggest that abundant and rare sub-communities have discrepant ecological patterns and provide insights into their structure-functional relationships. Strains JW1T and JW3, isolated from surface seawater of the Arabian Sea, were subjected to polyphasic taxonomic analysis. Cells of both strains were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, and rod-shaped. They formed violet pigment and produced violacein. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, strains JW1T and JW3 showed high 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with Pseudoalteromonas byunsanensis JCM12483T (98.2%), P. shioyasakiensis SE3T (97.8%), P. arabiensis JCM 17292T (97.3%), and P. gelatinilytica NH153T (97.1%). The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between JW1T and JW3 was 100%. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that both strains fell within the cluster of the genus Pseudoalteromonas and represented an independent lineage. The average nucleotide identity and in silico DNA-DNA hybridization values between JW1T and type strains of the closely related Pseudoalteromonas species were 70.9–83.3% and 20.0–26.4%, respectively. The sole respiratory quinone in both strains is ubiquinone 8 (Q-8). The principal fatty acids are summed feature 3 (C16:1ω7c and/or iso-C15:0 2OH), C18:1ω7c, and C16:0. The major polar lipids are phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, one unidentified glycolipid, one unidentified aminolipid, and one unidentified phospholipid. The DNA G+C content was 43.3 mol%. Differential phylogenetic distinctiveness, chemotaxonomic differences, and phenotypic properties indicated that strains JW1T and JW3 could be differentiated from the Pseudoalteromonas species with validly published names. Therefore, it is proposed that strains JW1T and JW3 represent a novel species of the genus Pseudoalteromonas, for which the name Pseudoalteromonas amylolytica sp. nov. The taxonomy of the Sino-Himalayan alpine bamboos is controversial due to their complex evolutionary history and further complicated by the scarcity of inflorescence. Here, we supplement the description of the inflorescence of Fargesia angustissima T.P. Yi and Yushania pauciramificans T.P. Yi, which shed light on the taxonomy of Fargesia Franchet, Borinda Stapleton and Yushania Keng. F. angustissima has compressed inflorescence unilateral stretching out from reduced spathe, showing a transitional state between species with condensed inflorescence embraced by spathe-like bracts and species with open inflorescence without bracts. Considering that extensive gene flow existed between several clades of Fargesia found in recent studies, a broadly-defined Fargesia s. l. should be adopted. Meanwhile, the inflorescence of Y. pauciramificans has typical characteristics of Yushania, such as axilla with tuberculate glands, rachilla internodes ciliate and cylindrical florets, supporting the delimitation of Yushania. Angiopteris nodosipetiolata Ting Wang tris, H.F.Chen & Y.H.Yan, a new fern of Marattiaceae, is described and illustrated. Morphologically, A. nodosipetiolata is similar to A. chingii with more than one naked pulvinus on the stipe and numerous jointed hairs on the undersides of the mature pinnae. However, the pinnae of A. nodosipetiolata are lanceolate and can reach up to 4–6 pairs, whereas they are elliptic and occur in 2–3 pairs in A. chingii. Phylogenetic and genetic distance analysis, based on the plastid genomes, also indicates that A. nodosipetiolata is not closely related to A. chingii. Currently, there are ca. 500 mature individuals in Gulinqing Nature Reserve and we suggest A. nodosipetiolata should be categorised as an Endangered (EN) species according to the criteria of IUCN. Dipteris shenzhenensis, a new species of ferns from Shenzhen, Guangdong, southern China, is identified and described. It closely resembles D. chinensis but possesses several unique traits, such as long rhizome scales, castaneous stipe, and abaxially pale fronds with two fan-shaped fronds connected by a broad wing. Molecular evidence showed that D. shenzhenensis is allied to D. conjugata, whereas it has morphologically significant differences (P < 0.05) on the basis of quantitative trait statistical analysis. With the development of open science and technological innovation, using sharing data and molecular biology techniques in the study of taxonomy and systematics have become a crucial component of plants, which undoubtedly helps us discover more hidden outliers or deal with difficult taxa. In this paper, we take Dennstaedtia smithii as an example, based on sharing molecular database, virtual herbarium and plant photo bank, to clarify the outliers that have been hidden in Dennstaedtia and find the key morphological traits with consistent of molecular systematics. In molecular phylogenetic analyses, we used rbcL, rps4, psbA-trnH and trnL-F sequences from 5 new and 49 shared data; the results showed that Dennstaedtia smithii is nested within Microlepia rather than Dennstaedtia. We further studied the morphological characters based on the phylogeny result and found that D. smithii is distinguished from other species of Dennstaedtia by spore ornamentation and the unconnected of grooves between rachis and pinna rachis. According to morphological and molecular phylogenetic studies, our results supported that D. smithii should be a new member of Microlepia and renamed Microlepia smithii (Hook.) Y.H. Yan. Eriophyoid mites from Qinghai Province, northwestern China were studied herein. Up to now, only six species have been reported from Qinghai Province. In field surveys, 17 eriophyoid mite species were collected, among which nine species were found new to science. The new species and their host plants are listed as follows: Acaphyllisa tuberculumae sp. n. on Populus sp. (Salicaceae); Proiectus xiningensis sp. n. on Pinus sp. Eriophyoid mites (Acari: Eriophyoidea) in Phyllocoptruta are reviewed. Two new species of Phyllocoptruta from Shaanxi Province, China, are described and illustrated: Phyllocoptruta huayangiana n. sp. on Rosa sericea Lindl. subsp, omeiensisi (Rolfe) A. V. Roberts (Rosaceae) and Phyllocoptruta clematoclethra n. sp. on Clematoclethra sp. Maxim. (Actinidiaceae). The border area between south-eastern Yunnan, China and northern Vietnam is one of the regions with richest biological diversity including that of the fern genus Angiopteris (Marattiaceae). Based on the analysis of morphology and DNA sequences of multiple chloroplast regions (atpB, rbcL, rps4-trnS spacer and trnL-F spacer), we revised Angiopteris tonkinensis (Hayata) J.M.Camus and proposed a new combination Angiopteris tamdaoensis (Hayata) J.Y.Xiang & T.Wang, comb. nov., which was previously regarded as a synonym of A. tonkinensis. We found support for a monophyletic Angiopteris including Protomarattia. This discovery adds two new distribution sites of A. tonkinensis, one in China (Malipo, Yunnan) and one in Vietnam (Quan Ba, Ha Giang). We suggest A. tonkinensis should be categorised as Critically Endangered (CR) species according to the criteria of IUCN. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on field observations and examinations of herbarium specimens (including type material), consulting the original literature and molecular phylogenetic analysis of the rbcL and trnL-F sequences, it is concluded that Hypolepis robusta is conspecific with Hypolepis alpina and is here formally treated as a synonym of it. Since the adoption of some ambiguous and quantitative characters in Flora Republicae Popularis Sinicae 3(1), species identifications of the series Gravesiana have been in disarray, requiring clarification. Two hundred and fifty-nine individuals from 47 different populations were collected for the estimation of morphological characters and phylogenetic analyses. Spores of 26 populations were observed through scanning electron microscope. Our results were different from those of previous research: (1) six identifiable species, rather than five species observed previously, were confirmed in the series Gravesiana, they are A. gravesii, A. juxtapositum, A. mariesii, A. dentatum, A. longzhouensis and A. obovatum, of which the latter three are newly recognized species. (2) Thirteen characters were measured and estimated through the program Mesquite v. 2.71. The character whether the pinna stalks were 1/3-1/2 times longer than the pinna was used to distinguish A. gravesii and A. lianxianense previously and was found to be unreliable here, whereas such characters as the height of the plant (H), pinna aligned forms (FP), number of pinna (NP), pinna margin (M), number of veins flabellate at base (NV), sori number and shape per pinna (NSS), pinna texture (T), and powder-covered or not on the abaxial surface of the pinna (P) are estimated to be stable and reliable characters useful for identification. Because synonymy treatment traditionally relies on morphological judgments, it usually causes many problems in species delimitation and in the biodiversity catalogue. For example, Diplopterygium simulans, which belongs to the Gleicheniaceae family, has been considered to be synonymous with D. glaucum or D. giganteum based mainly on the morphology of its pinna rachis and blade. In the absence of molecular evidence, these revisions remain doubtful. DNA barcoding, which is considered to be a powerful method for species-level identification, was employed to assess the genetic distance among 9 members of the Diplopterygium genus. The results indicate that D. simulans is an independent species rather than a synonymy of D. glaucum or D. giganteum. Moreover, phylogenetic analysis uncovered the sisterhood of D. simulans and D. cantonense, which is supported by their geographical distributions and morphological traits. Incorrect synonymy treatment is prevalent in the characterization of biological diversity, and our study proposes a convenient and effective method for validating synonym treatments and discovering cryptic species. A new genus and two new species of mites in the family Eriophyidae, Theaphyes rapaneae gen. n. and sp. n. which is found on the type host Rapanea neriifolia (Sieb. et Zucc.) Mez (Myrsinaceae) and Paracaphyllisa theacea sp. n., are described and illustrated. They are vagrants on the tea plant Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze and no apparent symptoms were detected. Three new species of eriophyid mites on bamboo from the Qinling Mountains, northwestern China, are described and illustrated: Tegolophus bashaniae sp. nov. on Bashaniafargesii (E. G. Camus) Keng f. et Yi (Poaceae: Bambuseae); Tegolophus fargesiae sp. nov. on Fargesia qinlingensis Yi et J.X. Shao, and Tetraspinus vulgaris sp. nov. on Bambusa vulgaris Schrader ex Wendland.
