Real-time and high-precision water level monitoring is crucial for the fields of hydrology, hydraulic engineering, and disaster prevention and control. The most prevalent method for measuring water level is through the use of water level gauges, which can be costly and have limited coverage. In recent years, Global Navigation Satellite System Reflectometry (GNSS-R) technology has emerged as a promising approach for water level monitoring due to its low cost and high coverage. However, a limitation of current GNSS-R technology is the extended time required to record signals, which hinders its potential for real-time application. This paper introduces a novel real-time water level monitoring method based on GNSS dual-antenna attitude measurement and develops a model to invert water level based on baseline vector. This method uses double-difference observations to eliminate errors caused by various factors, such as satellite and receiver clock, and ionospheric and tropospheric delay. To avoid the impact of detecting and correcting cycle slips during real-time operations, a single-epoch calculation method is introduced. In order to verify the stability and reliability of our method, field tests were carried out at Dongshahe Station in Beijing. We obtained water level data with a time resolution of 1 Hz through field experiments. Experimental data collected from 12 May to 8 June 2022 and from 4 July to 8 August 2022 showed good agreement with on-site water gauge measurements, with root mean square errors of 2.77 cm and 2.54 cm, respectively. At 12:15 on January 15, 2022 (Beijing time), a massive eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano produced violent atmospheric fluctuations, which in turn generated a global tsunami through an abrupt air pressure shock upon the sea surface. Two main components of tsunami waves, phase-locked waves and free gravity waves, were identified by significant differences in propagating speeds across the deep ocean. The phase-locked wave propagated through the ocean basin synchronously with the atmospheric Lamb wave at an average speed of approximately 306 m/s, followed by the free gravity wave at a slower speed. The locked wave reached the coast of eastern Taiwan Island at about 20:00 on January 15, in coincidence with the Lamb wave arrival. However, on the coast of Chinese mainland, tidal gauges did not record tsunami signals until at least 2 h after the Lamb wave arrivals. Theoretical analyses and numerical experiments both suggested that as a result of the incoming wave shoaling above the vast continental shelf of Chinese mainland, the locked wave was no longer trapped by the air pressure shock and gradually transformed into freely-propagating shallow water waves by slowing down its propagation. Due to the long-lasting planetary atmospheric fluctuations circling the earth many times, the sea level oscillations continuously propagated onto the Chinese shelf, which resulted in the tsunami waves excited along the Chinese coasts for at least 36 h. The maximum wave amplitude recorded on the coast of eastern Taiwan Island was 44 cm at Wushi, while on the coasts of eastern and southern Chinese mainland, the maximum amplitudes were 22 cm at Shipu and 13 cm at Zhuhai. Fourier and wavelet analyses were performed to identify the major components of the tsunami waves on the Chinese coasts. The results indicated that eastern Taiwan Island was impacted mainly by the waves with periods of approximately 10–40 min. The mass concentration, size distribution and mixing state of refractory black carbon (rBC) particles, together with other pollutants and meteorological variables, were observed at a station with a height of 528 m above ground to understand source of rBC particles over Beijing. Here we present observational evidences that regional transported rBC is an important source of rBC in high layer over Beijing. In our observations, the mass concentration of rBC increased from 1.0 μg m−3 to 4.6 μg m−3 during period with strong regional transport of pollutants, but decreased to 1.8 μg m−3 when regional transport weakened. Such trend was different with local emitted NO x , but consistent with regional transported SO 2. Further analyses indicated that the transported rBC particles were highly aged; the ratio of "thickly" coated rBC in total rBC (f BC) increased from 52.4% to 71.3% during period with strong regional transport, and then decreased slightly to 66.9% when regional transport weakened, likely caused by supplement of freshly emitted local BC particles. The aged rBC particles own enhanced light absorbing capacity, which may exert more important role in weakening atmospheric diffusion capacity and aggravating surface haze pollution, and hence should be concerned in future pollution mitigation. • Regional transported rBC is an important source of rBC in high layer over Beijing. • The transported rBC in high layer is highly aged. • The aged rBC owns enhanced light absorbing capacity. Urban trees have the potential to reduce air pollution, but the retention capacity and efficiency of different tree species for atmospheric particulate matter (PM) accumulation and the underlying mechanism hasn't been well understood. To select tree species with high air purification abilities, the supplementing ultrasonic cleaning (UC) procedure was first introduced into the conventional leaf cleaning methods [single water cleaning (WC) or plus brush cleaning (BC)] for eluting the leaf-retained PM. Further updates to the methodology were applied to investigate the retention capacity, efficiency, and mechanism for PM of five typical greening tree species in Beijing, China. Meanwhile, the particle size distribution of PM on the leaves, the PM retention efficiencies of easily removable (ERP), difficult-to-remove (DRP) and totally removable (TRP) particles on the leaf ( AE leaf ), and the individual tree scales were estimated. The experimental leaf samples were collected from trees with similar sizes 4 (SDR) and 14 days (LDR) after rainfall. When the leaves were cleaned by WC + BC, there was, on average, 29%–46% of the PM remaining on the leaves of different species, which could be removed almost completely if UC was supplemented. From SDR to LDR, the mass of the leaf-retained PM increased greatly, and the particle size distribution changed markedly for all species except for Sophora japonica . Pinus tabuliformis retains particles with the largest average diameter (34.2 μm), followed by Ginkgo biloba (20.5 μm), Sabina chinensis (16.4 μm), Salix babylonica (16.0 μm), and S. japonica (13.1 μm). S . japonica and S . chinensis had the highest AE leaf to retain the TRP and ERP of both PM 1 and PM 1 − 2.5 , respectively. Conversely, S . babylonica and P . tabuliformis could retain both TRP and ERP of PM 2.5–5 and PM 5–10 , and PM > 10 and TSP with the highest AE leaf , respectively. Abstract: This study documents the temporal variability in concentrations of flame retardants (FRs) in floor dust from three offices in Beijing, China. Dust from Office A (OAD) was collected weekly from March to August, 2012, and sampling of dust from Office B and C (OBD and OCD) was conducted fortnightly (each two weeks) from March to December 2012. With intensive and continuous sampling, we report for the first time on clear and coherent temporal trends of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), novel brominated flame retardants (NBFRs) and phosphorus flame retardants (PFRs) in indoor dust. The observed mean concentrations of ∑9PBDEs, ∑4NBFRs and ∑9PFRs, were 554, 11,100 and 128,000ngg−1 in OAD; 7560, 5000 and 17,300ngg−1 in OBD; and 4750, 3550 and 17,200ngg−1 in OCD, respectively. With exception of PBDEs, concentrations of FRs were elevated in OAD than in OBD and OCD. Two to ten-fold variations were observed between the minimum and maximum concentrations of FRs in the same office, indicating that the sampling moment exerts a substantial influence on the level of FR contamination. Different seasonality was distinctively found between BFRs and PFRs. Except for a few occasional abnormal values, BFR levels in office dust were generally constant among different seasons. The abundance rank order for PFRs was: winter>autumn>summer, with peak values occurring in late winter and early spring. This pattern may be attributable to the fact that PFRs are more sensitive to temperature changes compared to PBDEs and NBFRs owning to their higher volatilities. The absence of significant seasonal variation for BFR concentrations in indoor dust compared to outdoor air and dust concentrations is also discussed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

A laboratory confocal micro X-ray fluorescence (micro-XRF) spectrometer based on a polycapillary focusing X-ray lens (PFXRL) in the excitation channel and a polycapillary parallel X-ray lens (PPXRL) in the detection channel was used to carry out the size-resolved source apportionment of aerosol particles. The PPXRL in the detection channel both increased the collection angle of the detector and improved the signal-to-noise ratio of the X-ray spectrum. When this confocal micro-XRF spectrometer was used to carry out the quantitative XRF analysis of single aerosol particles with smaller size than that of the overlapping foci of the PFXRL and the PPXRL, the sensitivity was corrected by using a Gaussian function. The size-resolved “fingerprint database” for the air pollution sources was established based on the quantitative XRF results for single aerosol particles. A one-year (from June 2003 to May 2004) study of airborne microbial concentration and size distribution was conducted systematically at three selected sampling sites in Beijing. Microbial samples were collected in triplicate for 3 min, 3 times per day, for 3 consecutive days of each month using FA-I sampler (imitated Andersen sampler, made by Applied Technical Institute of Liaoyang, China). Results showed that the concentration of total culturable microorganisms ranged from 4.8 × 102 colony forming units (CFU)/m3 to 2.4 × 104 CFU/m3, with an arithmetic mean of 3.7 × 103± 2.1 × 102 (standard deviation) CFU/m3. As a whole, the percentage of airborne bacteria, accounting for 59.0% of the total culturable microorganisms, was significantly higher than those of airborne fungi (35.2%) and actinomycetes (5.8%). At RCEES (Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences—a culture and education area) and XZM (Xizhimen—a main traffic line), significantly higher percentages of airborne bacteria were found as compared to airborne fungi. No significant difference was observed between airborne bacteria and fungi at BBG (Beijing Botanical Garden—a green garden area). The total microbial concentration was significantly higher at RCEES than at XZM and BBG (*P < 0.05), and no significant difference between XZM and BBG was observed (P > 0.05). Total microbial concentrations were higher in summer and autumn, and lower in spring and winter at RCEES and XZM (*P < 0.05). At BBG, higher concentration was observed in summer during the sampling periods (***P < 0.001). The size distribution of airborne bacteria showed a skewed distribution at three sampling sites. The proportion of bacterial particles decreased gradually from Stage 1 (>7.0 μm) to Stage 6 (0.65 ∼ 1.1 μm), and there was an obvious downtrend on Stage 2 (4.7 ∼ 7.0 μm). Bacterial particles were mainly distributed at the first four Stages (>2.1 μm), accounting for 78.6% at RCEES, 84.0% at XZM, and 81.5% at BBG. The size distribution pattern of airborne fungi was found with normal logarithmic distribution at three sampling sites. Fungal particles were mainly distributed at Stage 3 (3.0 ∼ 6.0 μ m), Stage 4 (2.0 ∼ 3.5 μ m) and Stage 5 (1.0 ∼ 2.0 μ m), composing 71.6% of the population at RCEES, 74.2% at XZM, and 68.3% at BBG. However, different distribution patterns were found in different dominant fungal genera. Cladosporium, Penicillium, and Aspergillus were present with normal logarithmic distribution, while Alternaria and sterile mycelia were found with skewed distribution. In opposition to the distribution pattern of fungal particles, the actinomycete particles at all sampling sites were primarily collected on Stage 1, Stage 5, and Stage 6, accounting for 61.1% at RCEES, 60.7% at XZM, and 64.8% at BBG. Airborne bacteria are important biological components of bioaerosol and play an important role in ecosystem. Bacteria at a high concentration in the atmosphere can result in biological air pollution and all kinds of diseases. In this study, a systematical survey on the culturable airborne bacteria was carried out for 1 year at three sites in Beijing urban area. Results showed that concentrations of culturable bacteria ranged from 71 colony forming units (CFU)/m3 to 22,100 CFU/m3, and the mean was 2,217 CFU/m3. Bacterial concentrations at the human activity-enriched site (RCEES) and the highly trafficked site (XZM) were virtually the same point. They were significantly higher than those at the greener site (BBG). Significant variation in bacterial concentrations in different seasons was observed at RCEES and XZM with higher concentrations in summer and autumn. In a single day, significantly lower concentrations were detected at 13:00 hours through all sampling sites. In this study, 165 species in 47 genera of culturable bacteria were identified. Micrococcus was one of the most dominant bacterial groups and contributed to approximately 20∼30% of the total bacterial concentration, followed by Staphylococcus, Bacillus, Corynebacterium, and Pseudomonas. Bike sharing, such as Mobike, are thriving throughout the past three years. Mobike allows users to rent bikes left by previous users. This mobility mode generates self-organized bike distribution over the city. We analyze real data from Mobike bike sharing system in Beijing and Citibike bike sharing system in New York. In this paper, we study the spatial pattern of sharing activity from this new business model. We construct an Origin–Destination spatial network of bike sharing traffic flow based on trip data and study the characteristic of unbalance in the systems. The unbalance of nodes in Mobike bike mobility OD network is revealed to follows a power law distribution with different exponents on weekdays and weekends. We also found that there exists a scaling between maximum unbalance and network degree in both systems. Background: Although methionine (Met), the first-limiting dietary amino acid, has crucial roles in growth and regulation of lipid metabolism in ducks, mechanisms underlying are not well understood. Therefore, the objective was to use dietary Met deficiency to investigate the involvement of Met in lipid metabolism and fat accumulation of Pekin ducks. Methods: A total of 150 male Pekin ducks (15-d-old, 558.5 ± 4.4 g) were allocated into 5 groups (6 replicates with 5 birds each) and fed corn and soybean meal-based diets containing 0.28%, 0.35%, 0.43%, 0.50%, and 0.58% Met, respectively, for 4 weeks. Met-deficient (Met-D, 0.28% Met) and Met-adequate (Met-A, 0.43% Met) groups were selected for subsequent molecular studies. Serum, liver, and abdominal fat samples were collected to assess the genes and proteins involved in lipid metabolism of Pekin ducks and hepatocytes were cultured in vivo for verification. Results: Dietary Met deficiency caused growth depression and excess fat deposition that were ameliorated by feeding diets with adequate Met. Serum triglyceride and non-esterified fatty acid concentrations increased (P < 0.05), whereas serum concentrations of total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, total protein, and albumin decreased (P < 0.05) in Met-D ducks compared to those in Met-A ducks. Based on hepatic proteomics analyses, dietary Met deficiency suppressed expression of key proteins related to fatty acid transport, fatty acid oxidation, tricarboxylic acid cycle, glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, ketogenesis, and electron transport chain; selected key proteins had similar expression patterns verified by qRT-PCR and Western blotting, which indicated these processes were likely impaired. In vitro verification with hepatocyte models confirmed albumin expression was diminished by Met deficiency. Additionally, in abdominal fat, dietary Met deficiency increased adipocyte diameter and area (P < 0.05), and down-regulated (P < 0.05) of lipolytic genes and proteins, suggesting Met deficiency may suppress lipolysis in adipocyte. Conclusion: Taken together, these data demonstrated that dietary Met deficiency in Pekin ducks resulted in stunted growth and excess fat deposition, which may be related to suppression of fatty acids transportation and hepatic catabolism. As the capital city of China, Beijing has experienced unprecedented economic and population growth and dramatic impervious surface changes during the last few decades. An application of the classification method combining the spectral and textural features based on Random Forest was conducted to monitor the spatial and temporal changes of Beijing's impervious surfaces. This classification strategy achieved excellent performance in the impervious surface extraction in complex urban areas, as the Kappa coefficient reached 0.850. Based on this strategy, the impervious surfaces inside Beijing's sixth ring road in 1997, 2002, 2007, 2013, and 2017 were extracted. As the development of Beijing has a special regional feature, the changes of impervious surfaces within the sixth ring road were assessed. The findings are as follows: (1) the textural features can significantly improve the classification accuracy of land cover in urban areas, especially for the impervious surface with high albedo. (2) Impervious surfaces within the sixth ring road expanded dramatically from 1997 to 2017, had three expanding periods: 1997–2002, 2002–2007, and 2013–2017, and only shrank in 2007–2013. There are different possible major driving factors for each period. (3) The region between the fifth and sixth ring roads in Beijing underwent the most significant changes in the two decades. (4) The inner three regions are relatively highly urbanized areas compared to the outer two regions. Hyperspectral data play an important role in monitoring and protecting wetlands because it not only offers high resolution and wide observation range but also reveal plant information. To explore the hyperspectral characteristics of wetland plants and their applicability in identification, in situ hyperspectral data for 15 species of wetland plants were collected from the Hanshiqiao Wetland Nature Reserve in Beijing, a constructed wetland. Then, first derivative, second derivative, and logarithmic transformation of the reciprocal of the hyperspectral reflectance data were performed using three data conversion methods (principal component analysis, vegetation index, and full-band spectrum) to identify characteristic hyperspectral variables. Four classifiers were compared, namely, support vector machine, decision tree, back-propagation neural network, and random forest. The results demonstrated that: (1) for a comprehensive comparison of the four spectral features data, logarithmic treatment of the reciprocal significantly improved the identification accuracy; (2) for the three data conversion methods for identifying spectral characteristics, the identification accuracy based on the full-band spectrum was better than the other two data forms, and the identification effectiveness of principal component analysis was better than that of the vegetation index; (3) because of differences in plant types and data formats, none of the four classifiers had obvious advantages or disadvantages over the others; and (4) the identification results for all plant statistics further verified the applicability of full-band spectrum data for plant identification. The results showed that the vegetation index and principal component variables reduced the calculation time but did not improve the identification accuracy. Background: Screening for Tuberculosis (TB) is a critical tactic for minimizing the prevalence of illness within schools. Tuberculosis Preventive Therapy (TPT), in turn, effectively staves off the development of TB from latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI). Unfortunately, there is limited research on LTBI and TPT among students. This study aimed to assess LTBI among freshmen in Changping District and advocate for the implementation of TPT. Methods: The prospective study collected data from 12 educational institutions within the Changping District of Beijing. The Kolmogorov − Smirnov test and other statistical methods were used for statistical analysis, x 2 was obtained using the formula x 2 = nΣA2/nRnC-1, df = (C-1) (R-1). We analyzed potential factors impacting the LTBI rate, and scrutinized the possible causes behind the low application of TPT and its efficacy for LTBI treatment, China. Results: Among 19,872 freshmen included in this study, 18 active TB cases (91 per 10,0000) and 2236 LTBI cases (11.6% of 19,223) were identified, respectively. Furthermore, of those with LTBI, 1045 (5.4% of 19,223) showed a strong positive for purified protein derivative (PPD), but only 312 opted for TB preventive treatment. There appeared to be no significant difference in the prevalence of LTBI and TPT rate between male and female students. Concurrently, 11 (71 per 100,000) and 7 (158 per 100,000) cases of active tuberculosis were identified in 6 universities and 6 higher vocational colleges, respectively. Interestingly, almost all freshmen who underwent TPT came from universities, suggesting a statistically significant disparity in TPT rate (χ2 = 139.829, P < 0.001) between these two types of educational institutions. Meanwhile, as for the age-wise distribution of latent infection among 17–20 years old freshmen, the LTBI rate exhibited 10.5%, 11.6%, 12.1% and 13.5%, respectively. Correlation between LTBI rate, the strong positive rate was statistically significant among different ages (χ2 = 34.559, P < 0.001). Over a follow-up period of 2 years, three students were diagnosed with active tuberculosis, one of which was resistant to rifampicin. All three students manifested a strong positive for PPD and declined preventive treatment during TB screening. Conclusions: The data indicates a high rate of LTBI amongst students in areas with a heavy TB burden, potentially leading to cross-regional TB transmission due to the migration of students. Education level might contribute to the limited uptake of TPT. Therefore, improving the implementation of TB preventive treatments is crucial in controlling and preventing TB across schools. Conclusions: The data indicates a high rate of LTBI amongst students in areas with a heavy TB burden, potentially leading to cross-regional TB transmission due to the migration of students. Education level might contribute to the limited uptake of TPT. Therefore, improving the implementation of TB preventive treatments is crucial in controlling and preventing TB across schools. Polyhalogenated carbazoles (PHCZs) are recently raising much attention due to their toxicity and ubiquitous environmental distribution. However, little knowledge is known about their ambient occurrences and the potential source. In this study, we developed an analytical method based on GC-MS/MS to simultaneously determine 11 PHCZs in PM 2.5 from urban Beijing, China. The optimized method provided low method limit of quantifications (MLOQs, 1.45–7.39 fg/m3) and satisfied recoveries (73.4%–109.5%). This method was applied to analyze the PHCZs in the outdoor PM 2.5 (n = 46) and fly ash (n = 6) collected from 3 kinds of surrounding incinerator plants (steel plant, medical waste incinerator and domestic waste incinerator). The levels of ∑ 11 PHCZs in PM 2.5 ranged from 0.117 to 5.54 pg/m3 (median 1.18 pg/m3). 3-chloro-9H-carbazole (3-CCZ), 3-bromo-9H-carbazole (3-BCZ), and 3,6-dichloro-9H-carbazole (36-CCZ) were the dominant compounds, accounting for 93%. 3-CCZ and 3-BCZ were significantly higher in winter due to the high PM 2.5 concentration, while 36-CCZ was higher in spring, which may be related to the resuspending of surface soil. Furthermore, the levels of ∑ 11 PHCZs in fly ash ranged from 338 to 6101 pg/g. 3-CCZ, 3-BCZ and 36-CCZ accounted for 86.0%. The congener profiles of PHCZs between fly ash and PM 2.5 were highly similar, indicating that combustion process could be an important source of ambient PHCZs. Ten target organophosphate flame retardants (PFRs) were measured from floor dust samples collected from homes (n = 21), offices (n = 23) and daycare centers (room n = 16) located in Beijing, China, and paired elevated surface dust and floor dust from the same daycare centers (room n = 9) were analyzed in this study. Most PFRs were detected in analyzed dust samples, and detection frequency up to 100% was observed on tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP), tris (2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate (TCIPP), triphenyl phosphate (TPHP) and tris (2-butoxyethyl) phosphate (TBOEP). Among studied microenvironments, office samples showed significantly ( p < 0.05) higher PFRs contamination level (1687–200,489 ng/g), followed by homes (4571–67,450 ng/g), and daycare centers (1489–33,316 ng/g). TCEP was the predominant PFR in both home and daycare center samples, while TCIPP was dominant in floor dust from offices. TCEP, TCIPP and TBOEP showed positive correlations ( p < 0.05) between their levels in elevated surface dust and corresponding floor dust, and the mean concentrations of TPHP (1116 ng/g) and tricresyl phosphate (TMPP) (336 ng/g) were significantly higher ( p < 0.05) in floor dust than those in elevated surface dust (269 and 93 ng/g, respectively). Estimated exposures of toddlers, average adults and the elderly to PFRs via dust ingestion were 38, 6 and 5 ng/kg bw/day, respectively (assuming the average daily time spent are 62.5% home and 37.5% daycare center for toddlers, 62.5% home and 37.5% office for average adults, and 100% home for the elderly; assuming median concentrations and average dust ingestion rate). The occurrence and distribution of 10 brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and 10 organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs) were investigated in indoor dust, total suspended particles (TSP), and vapour phase from offices (n = 10), homes (n = 9), and day-care centres (n = 10) in Beijing, China. Three types of samples were collected biweekly from one office and one home over a year to examine temporal trends. BFRs in dust significantly correlated with those in TSP, while OPFRs significantly correlated among all three matrices. In addition, BFRs in dust (ng/g) and TSP (pg/m3) exhibited similar temporal trends with higher levels in the cold season, whereas OPFRs in TSP and vapour phase (pg/m3) showed similar temporal trends with higher levels in the warm season. The geometric mean concentrations of BFRs and OPFRs in the three matrices from the above mentioned three types of indoor microenvironments were used for exposure and health risk estimation, and ∑ 7 OPFRs showed much higher hazard index (HI) values than ∑ 10 BFRs for all subpopulations, and inhalation of OPFRs was a major risk source. With the volatility of flame retardants (FRs) decreasing, the contribution of dust ingestion and dermal absorption showed an increasing trend, and the contribution of inhalation exhibited a gradual decreasing trend, which implied the dominant exposure pathway to FRs is strongly related to the vapour pressure (25 °C, Pa) of these substances. Using a single type of microenvironment or the collection of samples at a single point in time can lead to overestimation or underestimation of overall exposure and risk for people to some extent. The correlations of FRs in dust, TSP, and vapour phase from indoor microenvironments, as well as their temporal trends were first reported in this study, which will provide a basis for more accurate FR exposure assessments in the future. Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious problem in China. While there have been some studies on the nationwide genotyping of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis), there has been little detailed research in Beijing, the capital of China, which has a huge population. Here, M. tuberculosis clinical strains collected in Beijing during 2009 were genotyped by classical methods. Methodology/Principal Findings: Our aim was to analyze the genetic diversity of M. tuberculosis strains within the Beijing metropolitan area. We characterized these strains using two standard methods, spoligotyping (n = 1585) and variable number of tandem repeat (VNTR) typing (n = 1053). We found that the most prominent genotype was Beijing family genotype. Other genotypes included the MANU, T and H families etc. Spoligotyping resulted in 137 type patterns, included 101 unclustered strains and 1484 strains clustered into 36 clusters. In VNTR typing analysis, we selected 12-locus (QUB-11b, MIRU10, Mtub21, MIRU 23, MIRU39, MIRU16, MIRU40, MIRU31, Mtub24, Mtub04, MIRU20, and QUB-4156c) and named it 12-locus (BJ) VNTR. VNTR resulted in 869 type patterns, included 796 unclustered strains and 257 strains clustered into 73 clusters. It has almost equal discriminatory power to the 24-locus VNTR. Conclusions/Significance: Our study provides a detailed characterization of the genotypic diversity of M. tuberculosis in Beijing. Combining spoligotyping and VNTR typing to study the genotyping of M. tuberculosis gave superior results than when these techniques were used separately. Our results indicated that Beijing family strains were still the most prevalent M. tuberculosis in Beijing. Moreover, VNTR typing analyzing of M. tuberculosis strains in Beijing was successfully accomplished using 12-locus (BJ) VNTR. This method used for strains genotyping from the Beijing metropolitan area was comparable. Simple Summary: The yield of meat duck has increased over the past decade. Precise nutrition of ducks would contribute to improve growth performance and feed efficiency. As one of the important B-vitamins, pantothenic acid is essential for animals, and the deficiency of this vitamin could lead to growth depression, high mortality, and abnormal glucose metabolism. Similarly, pantothenic acid is also needed for ducks. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effects of dietary pantothenic acid levels on growth performance, carcass traits, and plasma biochemical parameters of ducks, as well as the pantothenic acid requirement of ducks based on conventional corn–soybean meal diets. The results showed that among all ducks, the birds fed the basal diet without pantothenic acid supplementation had the lowest growth performance, breast meat yield, and plasma pantothenic acid and glucose contents. In addition, all these parameters increased linearly or quadratically as the dietary pantothenic acid level increased. The pantothenic acid requirements of starter male white Pekin ducks were 13.29–15.0 mg/kg. The data potentially provides theoretical support for the utilization of pantothenic acid in duck production. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different dietary pantothenic acid levels on growth performance, carcass traits, and plasma biochemical parameters of starter Pekin ducks from 1 to 21 days of age, as well as the pantothenic acid requirement of starter ducks. A total of 384 one-day-old male white Pekin ducklings were assigned randomly into 6 dietary treatments, each with 8 replicate pens of 8 ducks. Ducks were fed conventional basal corn–soybean diets containing 8.5, 10.5, 12.5, 14.5, 16.5, and 18.5 mg/kg pantothenic acid for 21 days. Growth depression, poor pantothenic acid status, fasting hypoglycemia, and elevated plasma uric acid (UA) content were observed in the ducks fed the pantothenic acid-deficient basal diet (p < 0.05), and these adverse effects were ameliorated by pantothenic acid supplementation. Among all ducks, the birds fed the basal diet with no supplementation of pantothenic acid had the lowest body weight, average daily weight gain (ADG), average daily feed intake (ADFI), breast meat yield, and plasma pantothenic acid and glucose contents (p < 0.05), and the greatest plasma UA content (p < 0.05). In addition, all these parameters showed a linear or quadratic response as dietary pantothenic acid levels increased (p < 0.05). According to broken-line regression, the pantothenic acid requirements of starter male white Pekin ducks for body weight, ADG, and plasma pantothenic acid content were 13.36, 13.29, and 15.0 mg/kg, respectively. Earlier works identified the second generation (Z8R2) of a resistant Pekin duck line to duck hepatitis A virus genotype 3 (DHAV-3), which displays significantly strong resistance than that of the second generation (Z8S2) of a susceptible Pekin duck line. To understand the genetic mechanisms that determine the different resistance/susceptibility of Z8R2 and Z8S2 to DHAV-3, transcriptome analysis on livers of infected Pekin ducklings was performed to screen differentially expressed genes (DEGs). We found that DHAV-3 infection has a great effect on metabolism of Z8S2 at the transcription level. Using a newly created fourth generation of the resistant Pekin duck line (Z8R4) and an unselected Pekin duck flock (Z7) as models, hypoglycemia and dramatically increased aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase were shown to be noticeable signs of fatal cases caused by DHAV-3 infection. These findings, together with expression analysis and verification of DEGs, support the view that DHAV-3 infection results in glucose metabolic abnormalities in susceptible individuals and that there are significant differences in expression patterns of glucose metabolism-related DEGs between susceptible and resistant individuals. Notably, cytokines displayed a negative correlation with glucose synthesis in terms of expression in susceptible individuals following DHAV-3 infection. Mechanism analyses suggests that cytokines will activate PI3K-AKT pathway and/or JAK-STAT pathway by up-regulated expression of JAK2, and thereby causes down-regulated expression of G6PC and/or ACAT1. Cytokines can also cause down-regulated expression of HPGDS by JAK2.
