In order to solve the problem of randomness and volatility caused by the rapid growth of renewable energy (RE), energy storage systems (ESSs)—as an important means of regulation—can effectively improve the flexible regulation capacity of power systems utilizing a high proportion of RE. Most of the current ESS capacity configuration procedures are carried out based on the typical scenario method or time series production simulation. This method tends to determine the size of the ESS configuration through multiple trial simulations. Uncertainty of simulation prediction data can result in the existence of an excess capacity or lack of configured capacity. In addition, this method reflects the ESS demand under specific targets, but it fails to fully utilize RE generation characteristics. The configuration process lacks the mathematical mechanism of RE consumption, and the calculation process is too complicated. In view of the shortcomings of traditional ESS optimal configuration methods, this paper examines the mathematical mechanism of RE consumption and proposes the ESS optimal configuration analysis method based on "equal area criterion". First, the principle of RE consumption is analyzed and the "RE consumption characteristic curve" is proposed according to RE characteristics. In addition, a working principle diagram of RE consumption, including ESS, is constructed to visually show the consumption capacity of RE and the working position of ESS. Then, the ESS optimal configuration process, based on the "equal area criterion", is proposed to achieve an accurate match between ESS capacity demand and RE consumption targets. Finally, the power grid of a region in China is taken as an example. We prove that the proposed method can save 1.41 × 103 MWh of ESS capacity and provide a more "mathematical" and "convenient" systematic solution for RE consumption and ESS optimization compared to the production simulation method. Transnational political communication today is being reconfigured by digital technologies and global power transition. Authoritarian state actors such as China are increasingly active on global social media platforms such as Twitter to directly advance their preferred frames with foreign publics in Western democracies, most notably in what could be called Chinese Twiplomacy contesting narrative globally over contentious issues. This paper problematises such Twiplomacy from authoritarians to Western democracies as 'networked transnational frame contestation', arguing that the political and cultural distance between the sending and target countries, the networked affordance of social media, and the national prism of the target countries, all contribute importantly to the complexity of such frame contestation. Through a case study on China's Twiplomacy in contesting coronavirus narrative in the UK, this paper further provides empirical evidence on how 'networked transnational frame contestation' works between politically and culturally distant countries. Using a mixed-method approach combining social network analysis and discourse analysis, this study finds that China's emotion-evoking discursive strategy draws traction but the authoritarian nature of the highly centralised networkedness and that of its discursive strategy, together with the strong cultural discordance with British publics, lead to networked recontextualisation of its intended frames in Britain. British publics, heavily relying on British political elites and press for foreign affairs, invoke shared cultural reference to recontextualise Chinese frames into culturally resonant counterframes. Background: Streptococcus pneumoniae is a gram-positive opportunistic pathogen, and infection risks of S. pneumoniae can be profoundly augmented by its acquired multidrug-resistance (MDR). The rapid development of MDR in S. pneumoniae was attributed to the international dissemination of a small number of multidrug-resistant "clones." Clonal complex (CC) 271 is a prevalent MDR CC in the world and the most prevalent CC in China. However, the evolutionary trajectories of multidrug-resistant S. pneumoniae CC271 in China still are largely unknown. Methods: We investigated a collection of 1312 S. pneumoniae isolates collected from 28 tertiary hospitals in China from 2007 to 2020. Recombination prediction and recombination-masked phylogenetic analysis were combined to determine the population structure and mode of evolution of CC271. Data from the Global Pneumococcal Sequencing program (GPS) were combined to understand the global distribution of clones identified in this study. Bayesian analysis were recruited to analysis the evolutionary dynamics of dominant clones within CC271 in China. Results: The phylogenomic analysis resulted in the discovery of two globally distributed clones, ST271-A and ST271-B. ST271-A was a derivative of ST236 and an ancestor of ST271-B and ST320, refining the internal phylogenetic relationship of CC271. ST271-B was the most dominant clone in China, with higher β-lactam resistance especially for cephalosporins comparing to other MDR clones. Bayesian skyline plot showed a rapid expansion of 19F ST271-B from 1995 to 2000, which correlates with the widespread use of cephalosporins in the 1990s in China. 19A ST320, a vaccine-escape clone, is the second largest population in China. The Bayesian skyline plot showed that the 19A ST320 began to expand rapidly around 2001, which appeared to coincide with the prevalence of 19A after application of PCV7 in 2000 in the USA. We also observed frequent transmission of 19A ST320 between countries. It suggests that mass vaccination in some countries could affect the prevalence of clones in unvaccinated countries in the context of high-frequency international transmission. Conclusions: Our results refined the internal phylogenetic relationship of CC271, showing that the 19F ST271-B and 19A ST320 evolved independently from ST271-A, with different histories and driving forces for their evolution and dissemination in China. The Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project (MR-SNWDP) in China, with construction beginning in 2003, diverts water from Danjiangkou Reservoir to North China for residential, agriculture and industrial use. The water source area of the MR-SNWDP is the region that is most sensitive to and most affected by the construction of this water diversion project. In this study, we used Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) and HJ-1A/B images from 2000 to 2015 by an object-based approach with a hierarchical classification method for mapping land cover in the water source area. The changes in land cover were illuminated by transfer matrixes, single dynamic degree, slope zones and fractional vegetation cover (FVC). The results indicated that the area of cropland decreased by 31% and was replaced mainly by shrub over the past 15 years, whereas forest and settlements showed continuous increases of 29.2% and 77.7%, respectively. The changes in cropland were obvious in all slope zones and decreased most remarkably (−43.8%) in the slope zone above 25°. Compared to the FVC of forest and shrub, significant improvement was exhibited in the FVC of grassland, with a growth rate of 16.6%. We concluded that local policies, including economic development, water conservation and immigration resulting from the construction of the MR-SNWDP, were the main drivers of land cover changes; notably, they stimulated the substantial and rapid expansion of settlements, doubled the wetlands and drove the transformation from cropland to settlements in immigration areas. Along with rapid development of economy, urbanization and industrialization in China, the transportation sector especially road transport accounts for the quickest growth of energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the country. This paper selects four representative cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chongqing) in the north, east, south, and west of China as targets of case study. It predicts future motor vehicle population in various cities using the Gompertz Model, and predicts and analyzes fuel consumption and GHG emissions of different types of motor vehicles in the case cities by 2035. The results indicate that besides gasoline and diesel, in the future uses of various types of vehicle fuels will follow different patterns among these four cities due to diverse resources endowment, economic strength, technology levels and geographical features. Based on predicted vehicle population and fuel consumption, it is found that from 2013 to 2035, GHG emissions from tank to wheel (TTW) and well to wheel (WTW) in all cities will continuously increase yet at different rates. If there is no interference from new policies, around 2020 Chongqing is expected to replace Beijing as the city with the highest volume of GHG emissions of vehicles among four case study cities. Therefore, the four cities especially Chongqing need urgently to develop or adjust low-carbon policies in road transportation sector, in order to achieve China’s future greenhouse gas reduction targets. This study analyzed the greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction potential and cost of urban road transportation policies from a boarder perspective including tank-to-wheel (TTW) and well-to-wheel (WTW) assessments, with Chongqing in China taken as the case city. Three policies and two mixed policies, including improving the fuel economy of passenger cars, promoting electric vehicles (EVs), and promoting natural gas vehicles (NGVs), are analyzed in this study. The two groups of mixed policies are developed to analyze the interaction between the policies. The results indicate that all the policies will reduce TTW and WTW fuel consumption and GHG emissions from 2016 to 2035. During this period, promoting an NGV policy will have the smallest marginal abatement cost (MAC) but the smallest GHG reduction potential, and promoting an EV policy will have the largest MAC but the largest GHG reduction potential from TTW. However, considering the GHG emissions from upstream energy consumption, the GHG emission reduction from promoting the EV policy is reduced and that of improving the fuel economy via the motor vehicle policy will increase significantly, resulting in a larger MAC from WTW than from TTW. With the mixed policies, hedging effects impact fuel savings, GHG emission reductions, and MACs. Elatostema pleiophlebium and E. malipoense, two endemic species from southeast Yunnan of China, are described and illustrated. Their diagnostic characters, description and relationship with morphologically similar species are also given. Elatostema pleiophlebium is easily recognised by its glabrous stem and leaf blade, and its longitudinally 1-ribbed outer staminate bracts. Elatostema malipoense is morphologically distinct for its tuberculate achene and pistillate receptacle which is puberulous. Abstract: We use the Li-Strahler geometric-optical model combined with a scaling-based approach to detect forest structural changes in the Three Gorges region of China. The physical-based Li-Strahler model can be inverted to retrieve forest structural properties. One of the main input variables for the inverted model is the fractional component of sunlit background, which is calculated by using pure reflectance spectra (endmembers) of surface components. In this study, we extract these endmembers from moderate spatial resolution MODIS data using two scaling-based methods (namely, a regional based linear unmixing and a purest-pixel approach) relying on corresponding high spatial resolution Landsat TM images. Then, the forest structural property crown closure (CC) is estimated by inverting the Li-Strahler model based on the extracted endmembers. Changes in CC are mapped using MODIS mosaics dated 2002 and 2004 for the whole Three Gorges region. Validation of the estimated CC using 25 sample sites indicates that the regional scaling-based endmembers extracted using linear unmixing are more suitable to be used in combination with the inverted Li-Strahler model for monitoring the forest CC than the purest-pixel approach, and results in significantly better estimates in both years (R 2 2002 =0.614, RMSE2002 =6%, R 2 2004 =0.631 and RMSE2004 =5.2%). A change detection map of the model derived CC in 2002 and 2004 shows a decrease in CC in the eastern counties of the Three Gorges region located close to the Three Gorges Dam. An increase in CC has been observed in other counties of the Three Gorges region, implying a preliminary positive feedback on certain policy measures taken safeguarding forest structure. Simple Summary: Hyperhomocysteinemia has been defined as an elevated serum concentration of homocysteine exceeding 15 μmol/L and has been proven to play an important role in the pathogenesis of cerebrovascular disease. The prevalence of hyperhomocysteinemia in China has been outlined in a previous meta-analysis. Considering the key role of homocysteine in the process of vascular injury, more studies have been conducted to prevent hyperhomocysteinemia by nutritional supplements such as folic acid or other treatments. Additionally, studies have shown that the prevalence of hyperhomocysteinemia increases over time; therefore, it was necessary to provide an update from the previous meta-analysis on homocysteine status in China. This was needed to understand the prevalence, the trend in changes over time, and its determinants. The results highlight that the prevalence of hyperhomocysteinemia is increasing in China, especially among the elderly, men, and residents in the north, inland areas, and rural areas of China. We conducted a meta-analysis to systematically assess the prevalence of hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) in China, its change over time, and its determinants. Literature searches were conducted using English databases (PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science) and Chinese databases (CNKI, CBM, VIP, and Wanfang). The time ranges were from Jan 2014 to Mar 2021 in China. We adopted the random effects model to estimate the pooled positive rates of HHcy and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). To find the sources of heterogeneity, we performed subgroup analysis and meta-regression. A total of 29 related articles were identified involving 338,660 participants with 128,147 HHcy cases. The estimated prevalence of HHcy in China was 37.2% (95% CI: 32.6–41.8%, I2 = 99.8%, p for heterogeneity < 0.001). The trend of HHcy prevalence was gradually upward over time, with increases during 2015–2016 (comparison to 2013–2014, p < 0.001), but steady between 2015–2016 and 2017–2018. Subgroup analysis showed that the prevalence was higher in the elderly over 55 years old, males, and residents in the north, inland, and rural China (for each comparison, p < 0.001). Meta-regression analysis revealed that age and area of study contributed to 42.3% of the heterogeneity between studies. The current meta-analysis provides strong evidence that the prevalence of HHcy is increasing in China, and varies substantially across different ages, genders, and geographic distribution. Recent studies revealed the un-negligible impact of airborne organophosphate esters (OPEs) on phosphorus (P)-limited ecosystems. Subtropical forests, the global prevalence P-limited ecosystems, contain canopy structures that can effectively sequester OPEs from the atmosphere. However, little is known about the behavior and fate of OPEs in subtropical forest ecosystem, and the impact on the P cycling in this ecosystem. OPE concentrations in the understory air (at two heights), foliage, and litterfall were investigated in a subtropical forest in southern China. The median ∑OPE concentrations were 3149 and 2489 pg/m3 in the upper and bottom air, respectively. Foliage exhibited higher ∑OPE concentrations (median = 386 ng/g dry weight (dw)) compared to litter (median = 267 ng/g dw). The air OPE concentrations were ordered by broadleaved forest > mixed forest > coniferous forest, which corresponds to the results of canopy coverage or leaf area index. The spatial variation of OPEs in foliage and litter was likely caused by the leaf surface functional traits. Higher OPE concentrations were found in the wet season for understory air while in the dry season for foliage and litter, which were attributed to the changes in emission sources and meteorological conditions, respectively. The inverse temporal variation suggests the un-equilibrium partitioning of OPEs between leaf and air. The OPE concentrations during the litter-incubation presented similar temporal trends with those in foliage and litter, indicating the strong interaction of OPEs between the litter layer and the near-soil air, and the efficient buffer of litter layer played in the OPEs partitioning between soil and air. The median OPEs-associated P deposition fluxes through litterfall were 270, 186, and 249 μg P/m2·yr in the broadleaved, mixed, and coniferous forests, respectively. Although the fluxes accounted for approximately 0.2% of the total atmospheric P deposition, their significance to this P-limited ecosystem may not be negligible. Functional diversity (FD) provides a link between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, summarizing inter- and intra-specific variation of functional traits. However, quantifying plant traits and FD consistently and cost-effectively across large and heterogeneous forest areas is challenging with traditional field sampling. Airborne light detection and ranging (LiDAR) and imaging spectroscopy provide spatially explicit data, which allow mapping of selected forest traits and FD at different spatial scales. We develop an individual tree-based method to measure forest FD from tree neighborhoods to whole forests, and demonstrate the approach by mapping functional traits of over one million trees in a subtropical forest in China. We retrieved canopy morphological traits (95th quantile height, leaf area index and foliage height diversity) and physiological traits (proxies of nitrogen, carotenoids and specific leaf area) for each individual canopy tree crown from LiDAR and imaging spectroscopy data, respectively. Based on the multivariate trait space spanned by the six trait axes and filled by measured tree individuals, we mapped forest FD as richness, divergence and evenness, and explored spatial patterns of FD as well as FD–area and FD–tree number relationships. The results show that LiDAR-derived morphological traits and spectral indices of physiological traits are consistent with field measurements and show weak correlations between each other at individual tree level. Morphological functional richness follows a hump-shaped pattern along the elevational gradient of 984–1805 m, with maximum values at elevations around 1450 m, while high physiological functional richness occurs at medium and high elevations. At an ecosystem scale of 30 × 30 m, morphological richness increases continuously with tree density, but physiological richness decreases again at very high densities. Moreover, functional richness shows a logarithmic relationship with increasing area or number of individual trees, and local trait convergence is predominant in our study area. Different kinds of renewable energy resources have developed rapidly. For renewable energy planning, it is meaningful to assess the comprehensive performances of different schemes and then to determine the optimal design of the energy structure. This paper presents a two-stage method for the comprehensive evaluation and structure optimization of renewable energy plans. First, in the evaluation stage, multiple indexes from different aspects are taken into consideration, of which each qualitative index will be converted quantitatively, using the intuitionistic fuzzy number to describe the fuzziness and ambiguity in a qualitative index. Then, the superefficiency data envelopment analysis model is used to determine the comprehensive performances of different plans based on the concept of relative efficiency. Next, in the optimization stage, an optimal model combining multiple renewable energy resources is established based on the relative efficiency results of the evaluation process. This model aims at the maximum efficiency as a whole and can be used to optimize the proportions of different renewable energy resources. Finally, a real case of renewable energy development from a province in China is given to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method in this paper. The results show that it can overcome the shortcomings of the traditional basic model, obtain more objective evaluation results and provide beneficial references for the strategy making of renewable energy development. Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are a focus of research because they are ubiquitous in the environment; however, there is still a limited understanding of the behaviors and fate of OPEs in the environment. In this study, we measured OPEs in fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) collected from three regions in South China that have potentially different sources. The concentrations of ∑OPEs in the rural electronic waste (e-waste) recycling area (3852–57,695 pg/m3 with a median of 10,955 pg/m3) were significantly higher than those in the urban and background areas with concentrations of 314–9721 pg/m3 (median = 2346 pg/m3) and 667 and 109,599 pg/m3 (median = 2170 pg/m3), respectively. The OPE compositions in the urban and e-waste areas were generally similar. Correlations analysis with other components of PM 2.5 (organic carbon, elemental carbon, and water soluble ions) indicated primary industrial and e-waste sources of OPEs in the urban and e-waste regions, respectively. Correlation analysis also revealed that relative humility played an important role in their air concentrations in the urban and background regions. The air-parcel backward trajectories of the background site demonstrated regional atmospheric transport of OPEs to this region from both the eastern industrial cities and the northern e-waste recycling region. This study aimed to examine the impact of short-term adiposity change on risk of high blood pressure (HBP), and to assess the low limit range of body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) reduction proposed to decrease the HBP risk in children. Children were longitudinally surveyed at baseline and after a short-term follow-up. General obesity (GOB) is categorized by age and gender-specific BMI cut-off points, abdominal obesity (AOB) by WHtR. Logistic regression model was used to estimate relations between adiposity change and HBP risk with adjustment of covariates. A total of 28,288 children (median of baseline age:10 years) were involved with follow-up of 6.88±1.20 months. After the follow-up, 9.4% of the children had persistent general obesity (GOB), 2.8% converted from GOB to non-GOB, 0.9% had newly developed GOB. When compared with children remained non-GOB, children with continuous GOB status, newly developed GOB, converting from GOB to non-GOB had 5.03-fold (95%CI: 4.32~5.86), 3.35-fold (95%CI: 1.99~5.65), 2.72-fold (2.03~3.63) HBP risk, respectively. Similar findings were observed for abdominal obesity (AOB). Reduction of 0.21–0.88 kg/m2 of baseline BMI (0.86–3.59%) or 0.009–0.024 of baseline WHtR (1.66–4.42%) in GOB or AOB children, respectively, was associated with significant decrease in HBP risk. Children with persistent obesity, newly developed obesity, or converting from obese to non-obese had significantly higher HBP risk. For children with GOB or AOB, reduction of <3.6% in BMI or <4.5% in WHtR could decrease the HBP risk. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Polygonum hydropiper L. (Polygonaceae) (PH) is a traditional Chinese traditional medicine with a pungent flavor and mild drug properties. PH is mainly distributed in the channel tropism in the stomach and large intestine. PH has multiple uses and can be used to treat a variety of diseases for a long time. This review summarizes the phytochemical and pharmacological activities, and applications of PH from 1980 to 2022. We also provide suggestions for promoting further research and developing additional applications of PH. The data and information on PH from 1980 to 2022 reviewed in this article were obtained from scientific databases, including Science Direct, PubMed, Science Citation Index, SciFinder Scholar (SciFinder), Springer, American Chemical Society (ACS) Publications, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), etc. Some information was obtained from classic literature on traditional Chinese medicines. The search terms were Polygonum hydropiper, phytochemistry compositions of Polygonum hydropiper, pharmacological activities of Polygonum hydropiper, and applications of Polygonum hydropiper. The comprehensive analysis of the literature resulted in 324 compounds being isolated, identified, and reported from PH. Regarding traditional uses, the majority of phytochemical and pharmacological studies have indicated the diverse bioactivities of PH extracts, flavonoids, and volatile oil elements, including antibacterial, antifungal, insecticidal, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory. PH has a long history of diversified medicinal uses, some of which have been verified in modern pharmacological studies. Background and Objective. The value of postmastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT) in T1-2N1M0 breast cancer remains unclear. Our cohort study is aimed at evaluating the PMRT guiding value of the 8th American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) pathological prognostic staging system in the era of modern systematic treatment in this disease. Methods and Materials. Patients diagnosed with pT1-2N1M0 breast cancer between 2008 and 2018 in West China Hospital, Sichuan University were included. Locoregional-free survival (LRFS), distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), disease-free survival (DFS), breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS), and overall survival (OS) were defined as endpoints. The propensity score matching (PSM), receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, the Kaplan-Meier analysis, and the Cox multivariable model were used for data analysis. Results. We identified 1,615 patients with T1-2N1M0 breast cancer, and 44.9% (n = 744) of them were treated with PMRT. With a median follow-up of 76 months, 46 (2.8%) recurrences, 96 (5.9%) deaths, and 80 (5.0%) breast cancer-related deaths occurred. The 5-year LRFS, DMFS, DFS, BCSS, and OS were 98.6%, 95.3%, 93.7%, 96.5%, and 96.0%, respectively. PMRT could not improve 5-year LRFS, DMFS, DFS, BCSS, and OS compared with non-PMRT neither before nor after PSM in the era of contemporary systemic treatment. ROC curve showed that the 8th pathological prognostic staging had better discriminative ability compared with the 7th anatomical staging [the area under the curve (AUC) 0.653 vs. 0.546, P < 0.001 ]. In the anatomical staging system, PMRT had comparable 5-year BCSS in comparison with non-PMRT both in stages IIA (97.4% vs. 96.8%, P = 0.799) and IIB (95.3% vs. 97.0%, P = 0.071). When stratified according to the pathological staging, PMRT was associated with better 5-year BCSS in stage IIB (97.1% vs. 90.7%, P = 0.039), while not in stages IA, IB, IIA, and IIIA. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that PMRT was a significantly protective factor for BCSS in stage IIB (HR 0.331, 95% CI: 0.100-0.967, P = 0.044). Conclusion. The new staging could better select high-risk patients with T1-2N1 breast cancer for radiotherapy compared with the 7th staging, and PMRT might be exempted except the 8th staging of IIB in the era of contemporary systemic therapy in this disease. Measurements of hazardous semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) in remote tropical regions are rare. In this study, polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs) [including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), nitrated PAHs (NPAHs), and oxygenated PAHs (OPAHs)], organophosphate esters (OPEs), and phthalic acid esters (PAEs) were measured in fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) at Yongxing Island in the South China Sea (SCS). The concentrations of PACs (median = 53.5 pg/m3) were substantially low compared with previous measurements. The concentration weighted trajectory (CWT) model showed that the eastern and southern China was the main source region of PAC, occurring largely during the northeast (NE) monsoon. The PM 2.5 showed remarkably high concentrations of OPEs (median = 3231 pg/m3) and moderate concentrations of PAEs (13,013 pg/m3). Some Southeast Asian countries were largely responsible for their higher concentrations, driven by the tropical SCS monsoons. We found significant atmospheric loss of the SVOCs, which is an explanation for the low concentrations of PACs. Enhanced formation of N/OPAHs originated from tropical regions was also observed. The positive matrix factorization model was applied to apportion the SVOC sources. The results, as well as correlation analyses of the SVOC concentrations, further indicate insignificant local sources and enhanced atmospheric reactions on this island. Unmanned aerial vehicle laser scanning (ULS) and terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) provide complementary, non-destructive approaches to acquire three-dimensional forest structure information. Registration of their point clouds enables the reconstruction of complete vertical structure of forests. Current registration methods are primarily designed to register different TLS scans and thus are not applicable to ULS-TLS registration directly. In this study, the proposed method first generated multi-layer tree maps from ULS and TLS data using hierarchical clustering, then extracted Fast Point Feature Histograms (FPFH) features for each cluster point based on spatial relationships in the tree maps. After that, a point-to-point matching strategy was used to obtain the transformation matrix of each layer between ULS and TLS trunk point clouds and the best matrix from all layers was finally selected for fine registration. The algorithm was validated in 40 sample plots in Guangxi province of China. Our findings indicated that both high-density ULS and TLS data generate accurate tree maps compared to manually counted tree number, with a Concordance Correlation Coefficient (CCC) of 0.961 and 0.973, respectively. The proposed method performed well in registration accuracy and time efficiency, and achieved a higher matching score (0.945 > 0.928) and lower RMSE (0.144 < 0.151) than manual registration. The average registration time per sample plot of 600 m2 was 48.9 s, with 19.4 s dedicated to coarse registration. This research highlights the potential of clustering-based registration methods for effectively aligning ULS-TLS point cloud data in forests, laying the foundation for further technological advancements in forest vertical structure reconstruction. Background: We aimed to assess the associations between adiposity distribution and cardiometabolic risk factors among overweight and obese adults in China, and to demonstrate the sex differences in these associations.Methods: A total of 1221 participants (455 males and 766 females) were included in this study. Percentage of body fat (PBF) of the whole body and regional areas, including arm, thigh, trunk, android, and gynoid, were measured by the dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry method. Central adiposity was measured by waist circumference. Clustered cardiometabolic risk was defined as the presence of two or more of the six cardiometabolic risk factors, namely, high triglyceride, low high density lipoprotein, elevated glucose, elevated blood pressure, elevated high sensitivity C-reactive protein, and low adiponectin. Linear regression models and multivariate logistic regression models were used to assess the associations between whole body or regional PBF and cardiometabolic risk factors.Results: In females, except arm adiposity, other regional fat (thigh, trunk, android, gynoid) and whole-body PBF are significantly associated with clustered cardiometabolic risk, adjusting for age, smoking, alcohol drinking, physical activity, and whole-body PBF. One-SD increase in Z scores of the thigh and gynoid PBF were significantly associated with 80 and 78% lower odds of clustered cardiometabolic risk (OR: 0.20, 95%CI: 0.12-0.35 and OR: 0.22, 95%CI: 0.12-0.41). Trunk, android and whole-body PBF were significantly associated with higher odds of clustered risk with OR of 1.90 (95%CI:1.02-3.55), 2.91 (95%CI: 1.75-4.85), and 2.01 (95%CI: 1.47-2.76), respectively. While in males, one-SD increase in the thigh and gynoid PBF are associated with 94% (OR: 0.06, 95%CI: 0.02-0.23) and 83% lower odds (OR: 0.17, 95%CI: 0.05-0.57) of clustered cardiometabolic risk, respectively. Android and whole-body PBF were associated with higher odds of clustered cardiometabolic risk (OR: 3.39, 95%CI: 1.42-8.09 and OR: 2.45, 95%CI: 1.53-3.92), but the association for trunk PBF was not statistically significant (OR: 1.16, 95%CI: 0.42-3.19).Conclusions: Adiposity distribution plays an important role in the clustered cardiometabolic risk in participants with overweight and obese and sex differences were observed in these associations. In general, central obesity (measured by android PBF) could be the best anthropometric measurement for screening people at risk for CVD risk factors for both men and women. The emission characteristics of respirable particulate matter (PM 10), and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) size distribution, gas-particle partitioning and occupational exposure in two e-waste recycling workshops (manual and thermal dismantling workshop: ManuDW and TherDW) were investigated. The PM 10 mass concentration was higher but the number concentration was lower in the ManuDW than in the TherDW. The gaseous phase PBDE concentration (40.5 ng/m3) was higher in the ManuDW than in the TherDW (10.6 ng/m3) while the particulate phase PBDE concentration was just reverse (57.7 vs 156 ng/m3). The size distribution of particle was similar for two workshops but the size distribution of particle-bound PBDE exhibited remarkable differences. BDE-209 was the dominant congener in particle-bound PBDE in the TherDW, while Tri-, Tetra-, and Deca-BDE were the three most abundant homologues in the ManuDW. The size distribution of particle-bound PBDE homologue profile in the ManuDW was also distinct from that in the TherDW. The PBDE exposure doses were 13.9 and 15.3 ng/kg/day in the ManuDW and the TherDW, far lower than reference doses. Accurate grassland aboveground biomass (AGB) estimation is crucial for effective grassland utilization. However, most current satellites cannot provide data with high spatial and temporal resolutions simultaneously. Spatiotemporal fusion models can combine the resolution advantages of different remote sensing data and support high-precision vegetation monitoring. In order to obtain accurate grassland AGB maps with high resolution in the Three-River Headwaters Region (TRHR) of China, we developed an estimation method based on the synthetic 30 m growing season averaged normalized difference vegetation index (GS-NDVI), which was fused from 30 m Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) and 250 m Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) NDVI data. To choose the optimal fusion model, we investigated the performances of three spatiotemporal fusion models for NDVI fusion, the spatial and temporal adaptive reflectance fusion model (STARFM), the enhanced spatial and temporal adaptive reflectance fusion model (ESTARFM), and the rule-based piecewise regression tree model (RPRTM). The three models all produced reasonable NDVI predictions, with the coefficient of determination (R2) ranging from 0.58 to 0.86. RPRTM had the highest efficiency and was more suitable for large-scale spatiotemporal data fusion. Compared with the models generated from 250 m MODIS GS-NDVI, the AGB estimation models based on 30 m synthetic GS-NDVI were more accurate, demonstrating the effectiveness of our methods. Spatially and thematically explicit information of wetlands is important to understanding ecosystem functions and services, as well as for establishment of management policy and implementation. However, accurate wetland mapping is limited due to lacking an operational classification system and an effective classification approach at a large scale. This study was aimed to map wetlands in China by developing a hybrid object-based and hierarchical classification approach (HOHC) and a new wetland classification system for remote sensing. Application of the hybrid approach and the wetland classification system to Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager data resulted in a wetland map of China with an overall classification accuracy of 95.1%. This national scale wetland map, so named CAS_Wetlands, reveals that China's wetland area is estimated to be 451,084 ± 2014 km2, of which 70.5% is accounted by inland wetlands. Of the 14 sub-categories, inland marsh has the largest area (152,429 ± 373 km2), while coastal swamp has the smallest coverage (259 ± 15 km2). Geospatial variations in wetland areas at multiple scales indicate that China's wetlands mostly present in Tibet, Qinghai, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, and Xinjiang Provinces. Terrestrial vegetation condition is altering generally as a result of climate change and anthropogenic activity during the past few decades. To reveal the impact of long-term climate factors and artificial protection on multiple vegetation types, it is crucial to understand the spatial distribution of vegetation greening and browning and the effect of national ecological restoration programs. In this study, we established a persistent vegetation change index (P-value) to characterize greening (restoration) and browning (degradation) in China in 2000–2020. Firstly, we generated annual time-series normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) data from MODIS product by averaging the monthly maximum NDVI values for each year. Secondly, we calculated the P-value to investigate the continuous change in vegetation state by incremental time interval. Finally, patterns and trends of greening and browning in forests, shrublands, and grasslands were quantified and mapped at pixel and sample point levels. The findings of our study revealed that Chinese wild vegetated lands greened up by ∼3.4 × 104 km2 (25%) and turned brown in ∼1.6 × 104 km2 (11%) between 2000 and 2020. Net greening was detected in all biomes, most conspicuously in several ecological program regions in northern China. The NDVI time-series data in 31% of field plots showed a consistent result, 11% of field plots showed a browning trend, and 58% of field plots showed a stable state. These results indicated a synergistic effect on forests, shrublands, and grasslands, but with regional variations attributed to differences in precipitation abundance, the implementation of positive ecological programs by the government and negative human activities. Additionally, these findings provide valuable insight into large-scale terrestrial vegetation transitions and have practical applications for decision-making and policy development in the assessment and restoration of ecosystems aimed at reducing carbon emissions, mitigating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and conserving water resources in China. Accurate understanding of the variability in foliar physiological traits across landscapes is critical to improve parameterization and evaluation of terrestrial biosphere models (TBMs) that seek to represent the response of terrestrial ecosystems to a changing climate. Numerous studies suggest imaging spectroscopy can characterize foliar biochemical and morphological traits at the canopy scale, but there is only limited evidence for retrieving canopy photosynthetic capacity (e.g., maximum carboxylation rate, V c,max and maximum electron transport rate, J max). Moreover, the effect of canopy structure within forest communities on scaling up spectra-trait relationships from leaf to canopy level is not well known. To advance the spectra-trait approach and enable the estimation of key traits using remote sensing, we collected imaging spectroscopy data from an Unoccupied Aerial System (UAS) platform over two forest sites in China (a subtropical forest in Mt. Dinghu and a tropical rainforest in Xishuangbanna). At these sites, we also collected ground measurements of leaf spectra and traits, including biochemical (leaf nitrogen, phosphorus, chlorophyll, and water content), morphological (leaf mass per area, LMA) and physiological (V c,max25 and J max25) traits (n = 135 tree-crowns from 42 species across two sites). Using a partial least-squares regression (PLSR) approach, we built and tested spectra-trait models with repeated cross-validation. The spectral models developed with leaf spectra were directly transferred to canopy spectra to evaluate the effect of canopy structure. We further applied canopy spectral models to map these traits at individual tree-crown scale. The results demonstrate that (1) UAS-based canopy spectra can be used to estimate V c,max (R 2 = 0.55, nRMSE = 11.79%), J max (R 2 = 0.54, nRMSE = 12.34%), and five additional foliar traits (R 2 = 0.38–0.60, nRMSE = 10.11–13.56%) at the tree-crown scale with demonstrated generalizability across two sites; (2) canopy structure strongly affects the spectra-trait relationships from leaf to canopy level, but the effects vary considerably across foliar traits and cannot be well captured by the 4SAIL canopy radiative transfer model. UAS-based imaging spectroscopy maps large variability in all foliar traits (including physiological traits) with spatially explicit information, reproducing the field-observed inter- and intra-specific variations. Abstract The carbonisation of energy structures is a principal reason for the high carbon levels of carbon dioxide (CO 2) emissions in the steel industry. The implementation of an energy substitution policy in the Chinese steel industry has important practical significance for this industry in terms of reducing CO 2 emissions. Based on this, this paper divides 20 types of energy-saving and emission-reduction (ESER) technologies into 4 categories: coal-saving technology, electricity-saving technology, comprehensive energy-saving technology, and linkage technology according to the energy-saving effect of different technology on energy varieties. Considering the energy substitution constraints on energy structures within the steel industry, we construct a bottom-up optimisation model based on a scenario analysis to analyse the emission reductions under 3 different scenarios: the baseline scenario (BAU), policy scenario (PS), and strengthened policy scenario (SPS). Results show that the emission reduction of coal-saving technology and comprehensive energy-saving technology in 2030 is 102 million tons CO 2 (MtCO 2) and 129 MtCO 2 , respectively, in the PS, and 116 MtCO 2 and 130 MtCO 2 , respectively, in the SPS. Compared with these types of technology, electricity-saving technology is maintained at the level of the BAU. Linkage technology is developed in the latter period of the SPS. The emission reduction of linkage technology in the SPS in 2030 will be 4.1 MtCO 2. During the period of 2015–2020, priority should be given to the development of thin slab continuous casting technology in comprehensive energy-saving technology and the development of blast furnace thick phase high efficiency coal injection technology in coal-saving technology. During the period 2020–2030, priority should be given to the development of thick layer sintering technology, hot delivery & hot charging technology of continuous casting slab, online treatment technology in comprehensive energy-saving technology and low temperature rolling technology, converter 'negative energy steelmaking' technology, and double preheating technology for hot stove of blast furnace in coal-saving technology. Agricultural activity is widely recognized as a leading driver of natural wetland loss in many parts of the world. However, little is known about the spatiotemporal patterns of conversion between natural wetlands and farmland in China. This information deficiency has limited decision-making for the sustainable management of natural wetland ecosystems. In this study, we explicitly quantified bidirectional natural wetland-farmland conversions during the periods of 1990–2000 and 2000–2010 at multiple spatiotemporal scales. Our results revealed that about 60% (15,765 km 2 ) of China's lost natural wetlands were due to agricultural encroachment for grain production, 74.7% (11,778 km 2 ) of which occurred from 1990 to 2000. Natural wetland conversion to farmland was highest in Northeast China (13,467 km 2 or 85.4%), whereas the natural wetlands in Northwest China demand extra attention because of a notable increase of agricultural encroachment. Natural wetlands in the humid zone experienced tremendous agricultural encroachment, leading to a loss of 10,649 km 2 , accounting for 67.5% of the total agriculture-induced natural wetland loss in China. On the other hand, a total of 1369 km 2 of natural wetlands were restored from farmland, with 66.3% of this restoration occurring between 2000 and 2010, primarily in Northeast China and the humid zone. Although a series of national policies and population pressure resulted in agricultural encroachment into natural wetlands, there are also policies and management measures protecting and restoring natural wetlands in China. The spatial differences in natural wetland-farmland conversions among different geographic regions and climatic zones suggest that China must develop place-based sustainable management policies and plans for natural wetlands. Background. Water channel proteins, also called aquaporins, are integral membrane proteins from major intrinsic protein (MIP) family and involved in several pathways including not only water transport but also cell signaling, reproduction, and photosynthesis. The full cDNA and protein sequences of aquaporin in Chorispora bungeana Fisch. & C.A. Mey (C. bungeana) are still unknown. Results. In this study, PCR and rapid amplification of cDNA ends approaches were used to clone the full cDNA of LRB7 (GenBank accession number: EU636988) of C. bungeana. Sequence analysis indicated that it was 1235 bp, which had two introns and encoded a protein of 250 amino acids. Structure analysis revealed that the protein had two conserved NPA motifs, one of which is MIP signature sequence (SGxHxNPAVT), six membrane helix regions, and additional membrane-embedded domains. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that the protein was from TIP2 subgroup. Surprisingly, semiquantitative RT-PCR experiment and western blot analysis showed that LRB7 and TIP2 were only detectable in roots, unlike Arabidopsis and Raphanus. Connecting with our previous studies, LRB7 was supported to associate with chilling-tolerance in C. bungeana. Conclusion. This is the first time to characterize the full sequences of LRB7 gene and water channel protein in C. bungeana. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are potential contaminants released from informal electronic waste (e-waste) recycling. PAHs in PM 2.5 collected at a rural e-waste (source) site and a background (receptor) site in Southern China were measured. Seasonal variations and regional transport of PAHs were investigated, and their sources and atmospheric processes were implied. The median concentrations of ∑ 18 PAHs at the e-waste site (13.7 ng/m3) were one order of magnitude higher than those at the background site (median = 1.54 ng/m3), indicating the informal e-waste dismantling was a significant source. The seasonal variations of PAH concentrations at the two sites were similar, exhibiting noticeably unimodal distributions in winter, predominantly associated with the strengthened e-waste dismantling activities. Three molecular diagnostic ratios (MDRs) can be collectively used as potential markers of field informal e-waste burning sources. The dispersion model revealed that regional atmospheric transport from this e-waste site was a source of PAHs in the background air. Some MDRs significantly changed at the background site compared to the source site but could not be explained by the lifetime and/or gas-particle partition of the isomers. The differences complied with recent theories about the multiphase reactivity and evaporation of PAHs on aerosols. It was proposed that in warm and humid climates, the losses of PAHs from PM 2.5 were dominated by their phase separation or diffusion, which was n-octanol/water partition coefficient (K OW) dependent. This hypothesis was further supported by data in the literature. Purpose: Heme iron may contribute to the development of atherosclerosis by catalyzing production of hydroxyl-free radicals and promoting low-density lipoprotein oxidation. However, epidemiologic findings regarding the association between heme iron intake and risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) are inconsistent. We aimed to investigate the association by carrying out a meta-analysis of prospective studies. Methods: Relevant studies were identified by using PubMed and EMBASE databases between January 1966 and April 2013 and also by manually reviewing the reference lists of retrieved publications. Summary relative risks (RRs) with corresponding 95 % confidence intervals (CIs) were computed using a random-effects model. Results: Six prospective studies, which contained a total of 131,553 participants and 2,459 CHD cases, met the inclusion criteria. Combined results indicated that participants with higher heme iron intake had a 31 % increased risk of CHD, compared with those with lower intake (RR = 1.31, 95 % CI 1.04-1.67), with significant heterogeneity ( P = 0.05, I = 55.0 %). Excluding the only study from Japan (limiting to Western studies) yielded a RR of 1.46 (95 % CI 1.21-1.76), with no study heterogeneity ( P = 0.44, I = 0.0 %). The dose-response RR of CHD for an increase in heme iron intake of 1 mg/day was 1.27 (95 % CI 1.10-1.47), with low heterogeneity ( P = 0.25, I = 25.8 %). We observed no significant publication bias. Studies are needed to evaluate the ability of Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR) for forest aboveground biomass (AGB) extraction in mountainous areas. In this article, forest biomass was estimated at plot and stand levels, and different biomass grades, respectively. Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data with about one hit per m2 were first used for forest biomass estimation at the plot level, with R 2 of 0.77. Then the LiDAR-derived biomass, as prior knowledge, was used to investigate the relationship between ALOS PALSAR data and biomass. The results showed that at each biomass level, the range of the back-scatter coefficient in HH and HV polarization (where H and V represent horizontal and vertical polarizations, respectively, and the first of the two letters refers to the transmission polarization and the second to the received polarization) was very large and there was no obvious relationship between the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) back-scatter coefficient and biomass at plot level. At stand level and in different biomass grades, the back-scatter coefficient increased with the increase of forest biomass, and a logarithm equation can be used to describe the relationship. The main reason may be that forest structure is complex at the plot level, while the average value could partly decrease the influence of forest structure at stand level. Human activities alter land use patterns and affect landscape sustainability. It is therefore very important to investigate the relationship between land use change and human activities. This study focuses on the detection of changing land use patterns in the Yanhe River Basin in northern Loess Plateau of China between 1995 and 2008. Landscape metrics were used to analyze the changing land use patterns and to explore the related anthropogenic driving forces. Results show that: 1) Totally, 186 590 ha of croplands were converted into alternate land-use types (equivalent to 61.7% of the original cropland area). The majority of cropland areas were found to be converted into grassland and woodland areas (accounting for 55.9% and 4.9% respectively of the original cropland areas). 2) Both cropland and woodland demonstrated an increasing fragmentation tendency while grasslands showed a decreasing fragmentation tendency. 3) Multiple driving forces of land use change were thought to act together to changes in landscape metrics in the Yanhe River Basin. The anthropogenic driving forces were analyzed from four perspectives: ecological conservation policy, labor force transfer, industrial development, and rural settlement. The policy of the GfG (Grain for Green) project was the main driving factor which expedited the conversion from cropland to woodland and grassland. Industrial development was also found to affect land use change through the direct impact of economic activities such as oil exploration and agricultural production, or through indirect impacts such as the industrial structures readjustment. Labor force transfer from rural to urban areas was found to follow the industrial structure readjustment and further drove land use change from cropland to off-farm land use. Establishment of new tile-roofed houses instead of cave-type dwellings in rural settlements has helped to aggregate the original scattered land-use type of construction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

China's surface mining greatly supported the rapid socio-economic development; however, there was a scarcity in the systematic understanding of national changes in surface mining changes and associated ecosystem services (ESs) losses, which inevitably affected human well-being and limited sustainable ecosystem management and policy optimization. In this study, we quantified the areal changes in surface mining based on the ChinaCover database and performed further analysis of ES loss from expanded surface mining using multidimensional geospatial data from 1990 to 2015, including MODIS products, meteorological records, and statistical datasets. Our observations reveal that China's surface mining was estimated to be 4746 km2 in 2015 and that Inner Mongolia had the largest surface mining area (28%). Surface mining expanded remarkably from 1990 to 2015, with an increase by 2.7 times after 2000. In particular, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, and Qinghai had the greatest increases in surface mining area. Rapid expansion of surface mining led to obvious declines in natural habitat area, water retention, net primary productivity, and grain production, and these ES losses showed apparent spatiotemporal variations. China has taken many measures to reclaim the abandoned surface mining sites. Aquatic products are an important source of environmental pollutants to humans. This study was conducted to assess the bioaccessibility of selected brominated flame retardants and heavy metals in common aquatic products from the Pearl River Delta, South China, as well as associated human health risks. Based on a questionnaire survey, ten of the most consumed aquatic products were collected from local markets. The bioaccessibility of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDDs), and heavy metals was assessed using an in vitro gastrointestinal model. Bioaccessibility of heavy metals (33.0–84.0%) and HBCDDs (38.5–68.4%) was significantly higher than that of PBDEs (13.4–65.4%). Total non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks from heavy metal consumption were much higher than the threshold values due to excessive abundances of arsenic in shellfish (HQ = 2.45, CR = 1.1 ×10-3). Furthermore, middle-aged populations and females were subjected to greater health risks due to different intakes of aquatic products among age and gender groups. Significant difference in bioaccessibility among analytes indicated that bioaccessibility of pollutants is non-negligible in health risk assessment. A rapid degradation of aquatic vegetations in Taihu Lake has roused a wide attention in recent years. Giving large-scale harvesting activity on aquatic vegetation since 2012, whether water eutrophication or the human harvest activity induced the degradation remains controversial and unclear. In this study, based on Landsat and HJ-CCD data acquired from 1984 to 2016 and a 12-year field observation (2005–2016) of water quality, a method was proposed to quantitatively assess impacts of harvesting activity and water quality change on degradations of both floating-leaved aquatic vegetation (FAV) and submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) in Taihu Lake. First, areas of FAV and SAV covers from 1984 to 2016 in Taihu Lake were mapped using the satellite data, and then the mapped areas were modified to those on a reference date by using phenological curves of FAV and SAV covers. Next, correlations between water quality data and FAV and SAV covers were analyzed by using Pearson correlation analysis based on the data before implementing the human harvesting activity (i.e., before 2012), and multiple general linear models were established based on the selected water quality variables with p-value <0.01 for estimating covers of FAV and SAV from 2012 to 2016. Finally, based on the predicted areas of FAV and SAV covers by the models and the modified areas mapped from satellite data, the influences of water eutrophication and the human harvesting activity on the degradation of FAV and SAV covers were quantitatively assessed. The results indicated that (1) FAV cover exhibited a significant increase from 1984 to 2011 and then a rapid decrease, while SAV cover increased significantly before 2003 and then obviously declined; (2) water level (WL) and total nitrogen (TN) showed significantly negative correlations with FAV and SAV covers, while secchi disk depth (SDD) and SDD/WL had significantly positive correlations with FAV and SAV covers; (3) the human harvesting activity made a major contribution to the loss of FAV cover, and the degradation of SAV cover was mainly due to an increased lake eutrophication and deteriorated underwater light environment. To counter their widespread loss, global aspirations are for no net loss of remaining wetlands [ 1 ]. We examine whether this goal alone is sufficient for managing China's wetlands, for they constitute 10% of the world's total. Analyzing wetland changes between 2000 and 2015 using 30-m-resolution satellite images, we show that China's wetlands expanded by 27,614 km2 but lost 26,066 km2—a net increase of 1,548 km2 (or 0.4%). This net change hides considerable complexities in the types of wetlands created and destroyed. The area of open water surface increased by 9,110 km2, but natural wetlands—henceforth "marshes"—decreased by 7,562 km2. Of the expanded wetlands, restoration policies contributed 24.5% and dam construction contributed 20.8%. Climate change accounted for 23.6% but is likely to involve a transient increase due to melting glaciers. Of the lost wetlands, agricultural and urban expansion contributed 47.7% and 13.8%, respectively. The increase in wetlands from conservation efforts (6,765 km2) did not offset human-caused wetland losses (16,032 km2). The wetland changes may harm wildlife. The wetland loss in east China threatens bird migration across eastern Asia [ 2 ]. Open water from dam construction flooded the original habitats of threatened terrestrial species and affected aquatic species by fragmenting wetland habitats [ 3 ]. Thus, the "no net loss" target measures total changes without considering changes in composition and the corresponding ecological functions. Ecological conservation and restoration are necessary to mitigate environmental degradation problems. China has taken great efforts in such actions. To understand the ecological transition during 2000-2010 in China, this study analysed trends in vegetation change using remote sensing and linear regression. Climate and socioeconomic factors were included to screen the driving forces for vegetation change using correlation or comparative analyses. Our results indicated that China experienced both vegetation greening (restoration) and browning (degradation) with great spatial heterogeneity. Socioeconomic factors, such as human populations and economic production, were the most significant factors for vegetation change. Nature reserves have contributed slightly to the deceleration of vegetation browning and the promotion of greening; however, a large-scale conservation approach beyond nature reserves was more effective. The effectiveness of the Three-North Shelter Forest Program lay between the two above approaches. The findings of this study highlighted that vegetation trend detection is a practical approach for large-scale ecological transition assessments, which can inform decision-making that promotes vegetation greening via proper socioeconomic development and ecosystem management.
