2. Le désir cause d'inhibitions.

- Abstract
For Freud, inhibition, defined as defence, is inseparable from the ego, which acts as a barrier to jouissance. On the other hand, inhibition as a symptom is the effect of repression. In both cases, it protects us from a confrontation with anxiety. Lacan locates this anxiety at the very locus of desire, so he rearticulates inhibition in terms of unconscious desire as a defence and the act as a suspension of movement. As the tragedy of Hamlet shows, inhibition as a blockage to the act is linked to a desire against another desire. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

3. Existe-t-il une clinique psychanalytique?

- Abstract
Clearly, the syntagm, “psychoanalytic clinic” has been established in psychoanalytic literature. However, it is far from being indifferent to speak of The psychoanalytic clinic or of a clinic, at the risk of confusing psychoanalytic practice, psychoanalytic experience or the so-called “psychoanalytic clinic”. Moreover, whether we speak of “Freudian clinic”, of “Kleinian clinic” or of “Lacanian clinic” or of others, sufficiently indicates the link, not always thought through, between “clinical observation”, “construction of clinical cases”, doctrine or theory, and concern for transmission and training. Hence the question that this article wishes to address: is there a psychoanalytic clinic?. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
From the beginning to the end of an analysis, how does the urgency of the case present itself, in whatever analysis? The passage from the beginning to the end, “the time that is needed” will not occur without the analyst: it is urgent, from the beginning to the end, that he does not loose track of his politics, that is of his act: to give the satisfaction of the end to cases of urgency. - Abstract
A say is encountered at the very moment when it arises, one can only take note of it. All of a sudden it feels urgent and in an irrepressible movement, with the haste increasing, the say gets into the body. The act is the instant when that is transformed, there is a break. And the subject, dislodged of his says, identifying with his act, sees his imprint in the living. Starting from two clinical cases, one about an entry into analysis, and another one about an end of cure, we will attempt to catch a few fleeting moments of says in analysis so as to try and measure the impact for the subject. The reception of Arnold Schoenberg's works in Vienna before the First World War was staggering. Scandals succeed one another and the atonal music of the avantgarde composer upset the moral, aesthetic and political sensitivity of his time and his culture. By transgressing the laws of tonal music, Schoenberg transgresses the law in the political sense of the term. It was due to an inner necessity that drove him to be not content with established knowledge that Schoenberg was able to mark the history of his style and subvert power. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This paper is the result of a doctoral research on suicide in a journey that goes from Freud to Lacan, following the common thread of a question that does not presuppose the desire to live as natural. From the review and articulation of three concepts (acting out, passage to the act, and act) in Lacan's teaching, it makes a proposal divergent from the moral and psychopathologizing mantle that extends -even sometimes within psychoanalysis itself-over suicide. The limits of classification are crossed in order to unfold the surface towards and ethics of the suicidal act. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The love letter is an act of uprising that allows the passage from a border logic to a logic of the littoral, of the turn. Between knowledge and jouissance, the letter makes a littoral to leave the impasse of the demand for meaning and the mirage of the phallic. Through this passage, the love letter allows us to understand not only the function of the written word in the confrontation of the subject with the bar of his truth, but also the trajectory of the cure: from the letter in suffering in the transference to the love letter in the pass. This article aims to show how aggressiveness was taken into account by psychoanalysis from the first Freudian essays to Lacan's reinterpretation, which, starting from aggressiveness of the subject directed to a similar other, evolves to the concept of hatred of the Other. In this regard, we emphasize the last stage of Lacan's teaching, which highlights the concept of Real, crucial to understand the inception of hatred in the subjective constitution. We show how this reference starts to influence the way culture - and especially the clinic - are affected, summoning the subject to deal with the Real of existence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article approaches, based on Jacques Lacan's theory, the female devastation as a consequence of the woman's location as not-all in phallic logic. The point in this work is to find out how an act can be a possibility of treatment of the devastation. For this purpose, two resources were used to understand this proposal: the work Medea, dated 413 b.C., and the story of Holk, published in a book called Patu. The Lacanian proposal about the feminine used here is the one formulated in 1971, in which the sexual division occurs in two modes of jouissance: phallic enjoyment, located on the male side, and feminine enjoyment, located on the female side. The proposal of feminine enjoyment indicates that the woman is not all referred to the phallus, which can have as one of its consequences the devastation of love, that affects the feminine parlêtre. About the act, Lacan's theory is also used, especially the 1969 proposals, in which the act acquires the dimension of a significant mark, that delimits a new beginning for the subject, in which if it is erased at the moment of the act, resurfaces after the action. After presenting the two main theorizations, the article aims to demonstrate how Medea can emerge from the devastation that she was in, after being left by Jason, through the act of killing her children. And also, how Holk makes his way, moving the unconscious, forging a new signifier in the analysis: patu (a signifier that ciphered female enjoyment) the dimension of the analytic act is present here. - Abstract
This paper is the result of an accredited research in the National University of La Plata (Argentina) on the relationship between dream and act, and it is focused in Freud's paradigmatic dream. The work aims at showing that this dream had for Freud the value of an act. It is based on the difference established by Gabriel Lombardi between two types of auto-references, from which one of them is characteristic of the act, the only case in which, according to Lacan, the signifier is as close as it is possible to signify itself. To this end, a brief analysis of the biographical circumstances of the conception of this dream is made and some auto-references contained in the onirical text are analyzed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

12. Jonathan Glover sur la doctrine des actes et omissions: une autre responsabilité négative.
- Author

Astay, Cédric
- Abstract
In Causing Death and Saving Lives, Jonathan Glover makes the critique of the doctrine of acts and omissions the cornerstone of his positions in applied ethics. How can it be argued that an act and an omission, when they lead to exactly the same consequences, are given a different moral value? This article seeks to show that to refuse the doctrine of acts and omissions is to adopt the utilitarian notion of negative responsibility. Developed in particular by Peter Singer, whose professor Glover was at the end of the 1960s, the idea of negative responsibility implies that a moral agent is responsible not only for what he does, but also for what he does not do, precisely because he has failed to act. The refutation of the doctrine of acts and omissions leads Glover to the same conclusions as the defenders of negative responsibility. On the basis of this intuition, I will try to show that the opposition between negative responsibility and the doctrine of acts and omissions constitutes in fact the core of the opposition between consequentialism and deontology: each would be the fundamental meta-ethical principle. However, I will also try to argue that negative responsibility and the doctrine of acts and omissions are not perfectly symmetrical. At the end of this article, negative responsibility will still be far from being definitively established, as its implications remain problematic, but it will emerge stronger from the comparison. - Abstract
This paper, from a theoretical review, aims at understanding the criminal act as a symbolic fact by taking as a reference Jacques Lacan's theory between 1954 and 1967, which considers the subject of the unconscious as part of a language structure. It also elaborates on the notions of language and speech as fundamental basis of the symbolic register. Hence, a clear status is given to the act from the point of view of the logic of signifier which, through speech, makes it possible to consider human actions as acts having significations that involve, in turn, desire and jouissance; these are notions from the Lacanian psychoanalysis and the main elements that constitute the subject's structure. Finally, it refers to the psychoanalytic clinical categories of passage to the act and acting out, thus allowing a possible comprehension and explanation of the phenomenon of crime by taking into account these two categories of the act, and illustrating it with the case of Althusser in order to punctuate both the logic of the criminal act and the basis of the so-called subjective responsibility. In conclusion, the criminal act, from the categories described of the act, is in relation to the chain of signifiers that, through desire and jouissance, marks the subjective position of the one who commits crime in his/her history as a subject. This paper aims to pinpoint, from a clinical practice with an adolescent in a public general hospital, the concept of the act for psychoanalysis, according to Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan's theories. We will discuss the specificity of the act both as regards a peculiar mode of repetition, by way of compulsion that do not appear by means of speech, but by the acting out; as in regard to the analyst's act as function, indicating its particularity in the incidence of a cut in relation to repetition as compulsion. One's clinical approach to adolescent draws attention to consider the prevalence of repetition by way of the act, which has the body as a target. In addition, as the function of the analytic act can operate from an enigmatic signifier that is revealed in the act, so to allocate a repeat act in a repetition by means of speech. - Abstract
Between 1966 and 1968, Jacques Lacan resorted to different philosophical, mathematical, and logical supports in order to present in his Seminar some operations that have effects on the subjective constitution and that, at same time, allow to delineate the course of an analysis. This paper tries to reconstruct and analyze the main aspects of such operative scheme from the analysis of some classes from Seminars XIV, The Logic of Fantasy, and XV, The Psychoanalytic Act, as well as from a number of contemporary writings. For this purpose, we start from Lacan’s particular reading of the Cartesian cogito and then we tackle the operations proposed and their respective effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objectives Criminals that are considered as criminally irresponsible may have committed violent acts under the influence of hallucination. In this article, the author aims to cast light on the function of the act in this extreme clinical situation. Method The account of the encounter with two patients in a unit for difficult patients is completed by theoretical contributions aiming to identify the mental processes involved when action emerges while a person is under the influence of hallucination. Results It appears that, when undergoing hallucination, the subject is faced with reappearance in the present of a part of his story that had never been symbolized, and he breaks free from the hallucination by turning it into an act that is committed in real life. Once splitting phenomena have been identified in the encounter with these patients, the crime scene can then be regarded as a representation of terrors experienced in sensorimotor and perceptual manner. Discussion The article shows how, by killing another person, criminals protect themselves from their own feeling of annihilation, among other things by freeing themselves from a melancholic state. The subject/non subject of the crime is aiming to become a separate individual through the murder of an object from which he is attempting to “un-merge”. Conclusion The crime therefore functions as means of survival for the hallucinating subject who is faced with the reappearance of a part of his history never before symbolized, with which he is trying to deal through enactment. To contain the experience of catastrophic fusion with the primary object, murder appears as an attempt to separate the subject and the object; in the absence of introjection of an empathetic double, murder seems to be an ultimate attempt to instate the other person as a non-threatening double. - Abstract
This paper seeks to investigate the relationship between suicide and the obscene. To this end, it begins by approaching the concept of obscene, which is understood as that which cannot be put on stage. It relates this obscenity to death - which, in turn, is revealed in its most disgusting aspect, related to the unthinkable of our disappearance. Next, reading of Durkheim's theory about suicide is discussed, as well as different psychoanalytic approaches to the topic. Finally, it approaches the relationship between the obscene and suicide, supporting the idea that suicide may harbor an obscene place. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The vagrancy of adolescents living on the streets reflects perverse social segregation, characterized by symbolic anomie and social mutilation. In the midst of destitution and helplessness, an adolescent may threaten with a statement like: "I'm gonna show you people. Just watch this." This violence may be presented as the reflex of an organism or be anchored in a discourse that is addressed to the Other, as an effort at inscription. We base our study on clinical and institutional experience (Olinda, PE) and we propose to place, in the radicalness of violence, an attempt to link act and appeal to the Other. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to highlight the ways in which human beings are capable of falling into the trap of aggressiveness and the mechanisms that can be implemented to prevent it. Lacan's concept of acting out [passage à l'acte] establishes an essential way to address this problem, as well as a possible solution based on changing the relationship of the subject to the cause of his desire. We have chosen an example that illustrates this concept: the novel of Japanese writer Mishima, called The Temple of the Golden Pavilion. Following this, we attempt to show the possible ways out in relation to the acting out, for those who make the choice of the experience of psychoanalysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Faced with the observation of clinical stalemate that may cause psychotic subject''s speech, the authors suggest an alternative methodology based on the report of the subject to its own geography and its faculty of “territorialisation”. Based on arguments coming from ethology and phenomenology, they suggest an epistemological reflection of the act for the practice of clinical psychology with psychotic patients. These acts consisting the refrain, the social adjustment, the emotional regulation or even the relational intuition are witnesses stating that the central problem of psychosis is within the broad spectrum and complex of the loss of common sense and common body. In this article the author uses the theoretical articulation of a clinical case to analyze the impact of the act and the frequent reference, in teenage discourse, of the influence of "bad company." Lacan's discussion on ethics in his Seminars from 19591960 and 1968-1 969 are referred to in the process. The author concludes that the act in adolescence is a possible response to what are seen as inconsistencies in the Others and it aims, through transgression, to reach what Lacan associates with Freud's das Ding. This response is also indicative of desire itself which sets a direction for clinical work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The starting point of this article is the Lacanian reading of Hamlet in Desire and its interpretation, which describes the function of mourning as a fundamental operation: cardinal support of the act. From there, it is recognized that the acting out of the mourning can lead to the initiation of an analysis, as the famous case of M. Little's Frieda shows. After some general considerations regarding mourning and making explicit some of the elements of that reading, the article analyzes the aforementioned case in order to clarify a clinical sequence that makes it possible to formulate a hypothesis: mourning is not necessarily the ending operation of an analysis; it may be its beginning. SOCIAL space , *IMPRISONMENT , *PRISON psychologists , *SECRECY , *PRISONS , *PSYCHOLOGY ,PHILOSOPHY of psychoanalysis - Abstract
Contiguous with social spaces, the prison is invested with a degree of secrecy. However, those who are incarcerated tolerate the space, which imprisons them with difficulty, insofar as this place, which punishes them, does not allow them to approach an act where the significance escapes. The act, which led them to this place, identifies them, more than it interrogates the “acting out of the act”, which is profoundly enigmatic and rarely questioned. The legal procedures fix behaviors by a ruling, which is hardly suitable for clarifying acts, which inhibit the significance. Based on clinical situations, we have attempted to conduct investigations concerning the act, defining the role, which the psychologist, orientated by psychoanalysis, must have in the individual work that he maintains with the prisoners. Far from numbing the significance, the aim is to articulate the statements with the contradictions, which compose them, to let an aborted word appear under appropriate discourse; the one which touches on the unspeakable. Taken literally, the significant point of the act is revealed to be less expressible than it had seemed and allows a glimpse of unsuspected areas. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

ACTING out (Psychology) , *LOSS (Psychology) , *FANTASY (Psychology) , *TEENAGE suicide , *PATHOLOGICAL psychology - Abstract
Abstract: Acting takes place at a time when the subject''s act literally puts down in reality the logical necessity of a loss. The loss is equal to attesting a signification which has been achieved – the subject being altered to a “fallen object” and imposing on the Other a loss of his enjoyment. This can only be established while reaching an anticipated certainty answering the question : ‘What am I for the Other?’. It goes along with the downfall of the subject, contrary to the principle of altering afterward which is at play in Fantasy. Committing suicide illustrates this decision and so, after Lacan, entails the alteration of the subject through the act. An examplary clinical case (the “case of Marie” by D. Lagache) which is revisited here allows us to ascertain clinically the coordinates of the subject''s resorting to act. Studying teenagers'' suicides (in increasing numbers and a current illustration of the general feeling of discomfort) on the one hand and on the other the martyrs of idealized political causes will throw a new light on psychopathological cases whose reasons are not made the clearer for a sociological approach which is too often the only point of reference used. - Abstract
