Cancer has become a chronic disease to which new therapeutic approaches are being applied and many patients are interested in the long-term consequences of these approaches. Aromatherapy is one approach that has been used as a safe and comfortable method to alleviate symptoms in patients with cancer, and its effects on various aspects of life have been reported. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to examine the effects of aromatherapy on quality of life (QoL) and pain in patients with cancer. Using a comprehensive search strategy, 11 databases were searched from their inception to July 2023 for randomized controlled trials. In the meta-analysis, the standardized mean difference and 95% confidence interval were calculated as effect measures by applying a random effects model. Fifteen studies met the inclusion criteria. Aromatherapy was found to have favorable effects in improving QoL (Hedges' ĝ = 0.62, 95% CI: 0.24–1.00), but no statistically significant effect of aromatherapy on pain was found (Hedges' ĝ = −0.46, 95% CI: −0.99 to 0.07). The findings indicate statistically significant improvements in QoL when combining aromatherapy and massage, but it was not possible to disentangle the individual effects of each. Considering the characteristics of cancer patients, aromatherapy has beneficial effects as a non-pharmacological method. Moringa is a type of plant that is used both for medicinal and food. Moringa seed (MS) are rich in volatile oil and have initially been employed to treat diseases of the nervous system. Insomnia, a prevalent neurological disorder, has led to this study's aim: to extract the essential oil from MS and analyze its potential to improve sleep. This study utilized petroleum ether for the thermal extraction of the essential oil from MS, which was then subjected to compositional analysis using Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer (GC–MS). P‐chlorophenyl alanine (PCPA) was used to induce an insomnia model in Sprague–Dawley (SD) rats. Following the successful establishment of the model, the MS essential oil was administered at concentrations of 10%, 5%, and 2.5% to investigate its sedative and hypnotic effects. The efficacy of the MS essential oil was assessed by observing the general condition of rats in each group, conducting an open field test, a pentobarbital sodium righting test, and measuring the serum 5‐HT (5‐hydroxytryptamine) levels and hypothalamic GABA (γ‐aminobutyric acid) content. GC–MS analysis of the MS essential oil revealed a rich composition, including oleic acid, palmitoleic acid, stigmasterol, and γ‐stigmasterol, among other substances. Through the assessment of the rats' general condition, behavioral tests, and blood biochemical assays, it was inferred that MS essential oil aromatherapy can reduce the rat's locomotor activity, increase their interest in activity and exploration, enhance the serum 5‐HT levels, and elevate hypothalamic GABA content. Purpose: It is important to reduce stress and improve quality of life for shift nurses, who experience high levels of occupational stress. Identifying evidence-based interventions to enhance their well-being is crucial for both individual and healthcare system outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of music therapy and aromatherapy on stress, quality of life, and happiness among shift nurses. Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, participants were randomly assigned using computer- generated random numbers. A total of 78 shift nurses who met the inclusion criteria were enrolled. The experimental treatment involved providing music therapy for one week to the music group and aromatherapy for one week to the aroma group, whereas the control group followed their usual daily routines for one week. Results: No significant differences were observed among the three groups concerning general characteristics and baseline dependent variables, thereby confirming the homogeneity of the groups. Nevertheless, post-intervention analyses demonstrated significant improvements in perceived stress (F = 5.55, p = .006), stress index (F = 3.38, p = .039), quality of life (F = 11.79, p < .001), and happiness (F = 9.29, p < .001) in the experimental groups. Conclusion: Both music therapy and aromatherapy were found to be effective in mitigating stress and improving quality of life and happiness among shift nurses. Objective: The threat of immune escape and the discovery of antibiotic-resistant pathogens, as well as the failure of certain conventional drugs that are already in use for the symptomatic treatment of diseases, have prompted a re-evaluation of ancient therapeutic remedies such as phytotherapy, and aromatherapy. In this context, the present study aims to shed light on some medicinal plants mostly used by the population of the Daraa Tafilalet region to strengthen their immune systems, and to provide an up-to-date literature review on this subject. Materials and Methods: A survey study was conducted using pre-prepared questionnaires addressed to the population of the Daraa Tafilalet region. MS Windows Excel and SPSS software were used for statistical analysis and results presentation. In addition, for the literature review, searches were conducted across several databases, including Google Scholar, Science Direct, Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus, using medicinal plants, date products, enhance immunity, and essential oils as keywords. Results: Among 142 participants interviewed, 108 used medicinal plants to improve their immune systems. However, 34 interviewers prefer conventional medicine. Date palm fruits and oregano were the most commonly used medicinal plants by the Daraa Tafilalet population to enhance the immune system, followed by anise, lavender, rosemary, thyme, and pennyroyal. Background: The primary goal of the intensive care unit is to the anxiety of conscious patients is often ignored in the care unit. Aim: The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of various non‐pharmacological therapies for anxiety disorders in adult patients in the intensive care unit, in order to enhance humanistic care in the intensive care unit and to promote the patients' physical and mental recovery together. Study Design: We conducted a systematic and comprehensive search of the literature in five databases (including the Cochrane Library, PubMed, EBSCO, Web of Science, and Embase) covering nearly a decade for randomized controlled trials of non‐pharmacological therapies to reduce anxiety in adult intensive care unit patients. Two researchers independently assessed the quality of the literature, collected and condensed the data, and used STATA software to perform a network meta‐analysis. The ranking probabilities for each intervention were calculated using the Surface under the Cumulative Ranking (SUCRA) method. The study protocol was registered with PROSPERO. Results: This study ultimately included 26 randomized controlled trials involving 2791 adult ICU patients. Non‐pharmacological interventions for anxiety in adult ICU patients included music therapy, aromatherapy, ICU diary, virtual reality, massage therapy, monitoring room diary, and health education. when compared to the control group (usual care), aromatherapy + music therapy [MD = −2.65, 95% CI (−4.76, −0.54)] (P = 0.0137) and music therapy [MD = −1.77, 95% CI (−3.40, −0.13)] (P = 0.0338) were superior in reducing anxiety in adult ICU patients. The results of the network meta‐analysis showed that aromatherapy combined with music therapy significantly alleviated anxiety in adult ICU patients (SUCRA: 99.8%). Conclusions: Music therapy combined with aromatherapy has demonstrated superior effectiveness compared to other non‐pharmacological interventions for reducing anxiety in awake adults in the ICU. However, the underlying mechanisms of this combined therapy require further exploration. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Future research on the use of music therapy combined with aromatherapy in the care unit may help reduce anxiety in patients while fostering their physical and mental healing; however, individual variances and unique clinical circumstances must be considered. Introduction: Patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) often experience high levels of anxiety, which can significantly impact their prognosis. However, evidence regarding anxiety reduction by aromatherapy in patients with ACS is lacking. This study aimed to investigate the effects of aromatherapy on anxiety in patients with ACS. Methods: The literature search was conducted using PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and PsycINFO from their inception until February 21, 2024. Based on inclusion criteria, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on aromatherapy in patients with ACS aged ≥ 18 years were included. The risk of bias in the included studies was assessed using the revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for RCTs. Results: A total of 14 studies were included in the final analysis. Aromatherapy significantly reduced anxiety among patients with ACS, with a large effect size (standardized mean difference [SMD] = -1.66, 95% confidence interval [CI]: -2.47 to -0.85). The effect on systolic blood pressure (SBP) was -0.65 (95% CI: -1.15 to -0.15), indicating a moderate effect size, whereas there was no significant effect on diastolic blood pressure. Inhalation therapy demonstrated a large effect size (SMD = -1.70, 95% CI: -2.33 to -1.08), whereas massage therapy did not show a significant effect on reducing anxiety. Discussion/Conclusions: The findings show that aromatherapy can effectively reduce anxiety and SBP in patients with ACS. In particular, inhalation therapy showed a significant effect on reducing anxiety levels. Applying aromatherapy in clinical settings to reduce anxiety among patients with ACS should be considered. However, the limited number of studies analyzed hinders a comprehensive evaluation of the effectiveness of massage therapy. Background: An effective method that is easy to implement and widely applicable for improving driving performance and reducing driving risks remains a challenge. Although fragrances are widely used in daily driving, there is a gap between empirical research on everyday blended fragrances and functional fragrances clinical reports. In this study, a deliberately chosen blend of scent without overtly stimulating or functional proven evidence was tested for its potential to enhance performance in a driving environment. Method: Thirty qualified young drivers were recruited to participate in the experiment. They were asked to watch a 15‐min first‐person perspective driving video to simulate a driving environment and then complete questionnaires and three sets of behavioral experiments while their brain activity was monitored by EEG. Result: Participants in the scented environment exhibited statistically significant advantages in two cognitive tasks during behavioral measures. These findings were effectively supported by the EEG data, showing that beta waves exhibited more activity in the occipital and prefrontal cortex, enhanced theta waves were observed in the prefrontal cortex, and the TAB index characterizing driving fatigue was suppressed in the prefrontal cortex. Conclusion: This empirical evidence highlights the potential of pleasant, natural, and blended scents in enhancing driving performance, suggesting that promoting the aromatherapy while driving as an easily applicable approach in daily life seems justified and expands the application of aromatherapy in daily life. In the United States in 2021, an outbreak of 4 cases of Burkholderia pseudomallei, the etiologic agent of melioidosis and a Tier One Select Agent (potential for deliberate misuse and subsequent harm), resulted in 2 deaths. The causative strain, B. pseudomallei ATS2021, was unintentionally imported into the United States in an aromatherapy spray manufactured in India. We established that ATS2021 represents a virulent strain of B. pseudomallei capable of robust formation of biofilm at physiologic temperatures that may contribute to virulence. By using mouse melioidosis models, we determined median lethal dose estimates and analyzed the bacteriologic and histopathologic characteristics of the organism, particularly the potential neurologic pathogenesis that is probably associated with the bimABm allele identified in B. pseudomallei strain ATS2021. Our data, combined with previous case reports and the identification of endemic B. pseudomallei strains in Mississippi, support the concept that melioidosis is emerging in the United States. Aim: Pain and anxiety levels in palliative care patients negatively impact their quality of life, highlighting the need for research on non-pharmacological methods. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of music and aromatherapy interventions on pain, anxiety, and stress levels in these patients. Material and Methods: The research was designed as a single-blind, four-group, randomized controlled trial. The sample consisted of 88 patients hospitalized in a palliative care center (receiving palliative care services with terminal or advanced diseases). Patients were randomly assigned to four groups (n = 22, music, aromatherapy, music and aromatherapy, and control group). Patients in the experimental groups received the intervention to which they were assigned for 20 min each day for three consecutive days: music, aromatherapy, or music accompanied by aromatherapy. No intervention was applied to the control group. The patients' levels of pain, anxiety, and stress were assessed before and after the intervention using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), the Facial Anxiety Scale (FAS), and the Distress Thermometer. Results: No significant differences were found in the demographic characteristics of the groups (p > 0.05). The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank and Kruskal–Wallis tests indicated statistically significant differences in pre- and post-intervention scores for VAS, FAS, and Distress across all experimental groups on all follow-up days (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Implementing music, aromatherapy, and their combination effectively reduced pain, anxiety, and stress levels in palliative care patients, suggesting these non-pharmacological interventions can improve their quality of life. Agarwood, a precious traditional medicinal herb and fragrant material, is known for its sedative and sleep-improving properties. This study explores the mechanisms underlying the aromatherapy effects of Chi-Nan agarwood and ordinary agarwood in improving sleep. Using a combination of gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS), network pharmacology, and molecular docking techniques, we identified and c ompared the chemical compositions and potential molecular targets of both types of agarwood. The GC-MS analysis detected 87 volatile components across six types of agarwood aromatherapy, with 51 shared between Chi-Nan and ordinary agarwood, while each type also had 18 unique components. Ordinary agarwood was found to be richer in sesquiterpenes and small aromatic molecules, whereas Chi-Nan agarwood contained higher levels of chromones. These differences in chemical composition are likely responsible for the distinct sleep-improving effects observed between the two types of agarwood. Through network pharmacology, 100, 65, and 47 non-repetitive target genes related to sleep improvement were identified for components shared by both types of agarwood (CSBTs), components unique to common agarwood (CUCMs), and components unique to Chi-Nan agarwood (CUCNs), respectively. The constructed protein–protein interaction (PPI) networks revealed that key targets such as MAOA, MAOB, SLC6A4, and ESR1 are involved in the sleep-improving mechanisms of agarwood aromatherapy. Molecular docking further confirmed the strong binding affinities of major active components, such as 5-Isopropylidene-6-methyldeca-369-trien-2-one and 2-(2-Phenylethyl)chromone, with these core targets. The results suggest that agarwood aromatherapy enhances sleep quality through both hormonal and neurotransmitter pathways, with ordinary agarwood more deeply mediating hormonal regulation, while Chi-Nan agarwood predominantly influences neurotransmitter pathways, particularly those involving serotonin and GABA. This study provides valuable insights into the distinct therapeutic potentials of Chi-Nan and ordinary agarwood, highlighting their roles in sleep improvement and offering a foundation for future research in the clinical application of agarwood-based aromatherapy. Background: Palliative care, a cornerstone of comprehensive healthcare, prioritizes quality of life for individuals with life-threatening illnesses. Aromatherapy, with its holistic approach and patient-reported benefits, emerges as a promising complementary therapy for managing symptoms and enhancing well-being in palliative care. Objective: The objective of this systematic review is to assess the efficacy of aromatherapy interventions in symptom management, with a focus on pain, anxiety, nausea, and sleep disturbances among palliative care patients. Design: A comprehensive search was conducted across various databases to identify relevant studies. Eligibility criteria were applied, resulting in the inclusion of eight studies for analysis. The review assessed the efficacy of aromatherapy interventions, primarily through massage, in symptom management. Variations in intervention procedures and outcome measures were noted, necessitating a critical examination of the findings. Results: The review's findings suggest promising outcomes associated with aromatherapy in palliative care. Aromatherapy interventions demonstrated significant efficacy in reducing pain, anxiety, nausea, and improving sleep quality among patients. However, considerable heterogeneity was observed across studies, highlighting the need for standardized methodologies and larger-scale trials. Conclusion: This systematic review underscores the potential of aromatherapy as a complementary intervention in palliative care. Background: Intraoperative anxiety is a common problem when Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC) is used instead of general anesthesia during minor surgical procedures such as port catheter placement. Nonpharmacological anxiolytics such as aromatherapy have been studied for their effects on preoperative anxiety, but no placebo-controlled study of aromatherapy during surgeries under MAC has yet been performed. Methods: After IRB approval, 70 patients were randomized 1:1 to receive either a lavender/peppermint aromatherapy patch (Elequil Aromatabs®; Beekley Corporation) or a matching placebo patch. The primary outcome, time to readiness for discharge from postoperative acute care units (PACU; min), was assessed every 15 min until a modified postanesthesia recovery score for ambulatory patients (PARSAP) score of 18 or higher was reached. In the preoperative holding area, the assigned patch/placebo was activated and affixed to a folded towel placed aside the subject's head, contralateral to the side of the planned surgery. The towel and patch/placebo were discarded when the subject left the operating room (OR). Results: No difference was found between the treatment and placebo groups on the primary outcome of time to discharge readiness (mean [standard deviation, SD]: 82 [15] vs. 89 [21] min, respectively, p = 0.131). No difference was found between the treatment and placebo groups on the secondary outcomes of intraoperative midazolam dose, intraoperative opioid dose, intraoperative ondansetron dose, or intraoperative promethazine dose. No difference was found between the treatment and placebo groups in the proportion of subjects requiring rescue postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) medication in the PACU or the proportion of subjects requiring opioids in the PACU. No difference was found between the treatment and placebo groups in pain intensity in PACU, average PONV score in PACU, or patient satisfaction in PACU. PACU patient satisfaction was high for both the patch and placebo groups (35/35 [100%] vs. 32/34 [94%] "very satisfied," p = 0.239). Conclusions: Aromatherapy treatment is not indicated intraoperatively to reduce anxiety or the use of antiemetics in patients requiring Port catheter placement. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of aromatherapy with an essential oil blend containing lavender, bergamot, ylangylang, and sweet orange, compared with placebo, on perceptions of anxiety in ICU RNs. Methods: Nurses recruited from six adult ICUs and a neonatal ICU participated in this blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled study, which took place over a 30-day intervention period. Results: Although there were no statistically significant changes in anxiety pre- to postintervention or between the intervention and placebo groups, there were also no adverse events or untoward effects. Introduction: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women, which reduces the quality of life and causes depression. The present study was conducted with aim to compare the effect of acupressure and aromatherapy on depression and quality of life of breast cancer patients. Methods: In this randomized clinical trial study, 96 women with breast cancer who visited the clinic or chemotherapy unit at Baqiyatullah and Shahid Chamran hospitals in Tehran were randomly assigned to three groups: aromatherapy, acupressure, and control. The data collection tool was the standard questionnaire for assessing the quality of life in breast cancer patients and Beck's depression questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software (version 21) and ANOVA and paired t-test. Results: In terms of quality of life, both in functional and symptomatic dimensions, the aromatherapy and acupressure groups had significantly better performance than the control group (p=0.003 and p<0.001, respectively). Additionally, both the aromatherapy and acupressure groups demonstrated a significant reduction in depression scores compared to the control group (p<0.001). Conclusion: Aromatherapy and acupressure significantly improve quality of life and reduce depression in patients with breast cancer. These interventions can be utilized as complementary methods in managing the physical and psychological symptoms of these patients. Purpose: Even after allergic rhinitis is diagnosed and treated, various symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, and itchy nose recur periodically due to various environmental factors. Methods: This randomized controlled trial was conducted to confirm the effectiveness of mask-based aromatherapy as a method of alleviating allergic rhinitis during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The study participants were adults between the ages of 19 and 60 who were diagnosed with allergic rhinitis and had a Total Nasal Symptom Score (TNSS) of 2 or more. Participants were randomly assigned to an aromatherapy group that was provided aromatherapy essential oils and a control group that did not receive aromatherapy. Participants in the aromatherapy group were asked to drop an aromatherapy essential oil onto a disposable face mask and wear it twice a day for two weeks. Results: The aromatherapy group experience significant alleviation of allergic rhinitis symptoms (visual analogue scale, F = 11.22, p < .001; TNSS, F = 15.82, p < .001). The aromatherapy group also showed significantly higher improvements in fatigue (F = 8.28, p < .001), allergic rhinitis-specific quality of life (F = 11.12, p < . 001). Conclusion: The oils used in this study appeared to be effective in relieving the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. In particular, the mask drop inhalation method was applied in light of mandatory mask-wearing due to the global COVID-19 pandemic during this study period. Purpose: This study conducted a systematic literature review and meta-analysis on the effectiveness of aromatherapy in reducing restless legs syndrome (RLS) in hemodialysis patients. Methods: Using the population, intervention, comparison, outcome, study design framework, a search was conducted of eight electronic databases: PubMed, Cochrane, Embase-Ovid, CINAHL, Web of science, Scopus, PQDT, and RISS. The population was hemodialysis patients, and the intervention included aromatherapy aiming at RLS, compared to control groups receiving placebo or usual care. The outcome measured was RLS, and the study design was randomized controlled trials. Results: The analysis included seven articles presenting results from 10 studies, and the pooled overall effect of aromatherapy on RLS in hemodialysis patients was shown by a Hedge’s g of −1.84 (95% confidence interval: −2.45 to −1.23). Meta-regression analysis revealed greater effectiveness in studies that received funding. Age over 60, lavender oil use, intervention duration of less than 4 weeks, sessions longer than 30 minutes, a routine care control group, and quality assessment score of 10 or less were associated with RLS reduction. The recognition of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is increasingly growing worldwide. Positive attitudes toward using CAM may reflect an evidence-based understanding and awareness of its common uses and potential abuses, facilitating its sound integration into the society for positive results. This study aimed to identify the level of knowledge, practices, and barriers associated with the use of CAM among medical and nonmedical students. A cross-sectional study was conducted between April 2023 and July 2023 involving a sample group of medical and nonmedical students from King Khalid University, Abha, Saudi Arabia. A total of 341 students completed the survey. Approximately 53.4% of the participants were medical and 46.6% were nonmedical students. Herbal medicine was the most used among medical students (21%) followed by aromatherapy (12%) and chiropractic (11%), while the most used CAM among nonmedical students was spiritual healing/Quran (19%). The prevalence of good knowledge is higher in medical students compared to nonmedical students in some CAM modalities. In addition, the results show that there are no significant differences in attitudes toward CAM among medical and nonmedical students. Respondents from both groups were keen on gaining more knowledge about all the CAM modalities. Poor sleep during hospitalization can negatively affect patient health, well-being, and satisfaction. This nurse-led quality improvement project aimed to promote quality sleep on an inpatient telemetry medical-surgical oncology unit. Interventions included distributing sleep hygiene kits (eye masks, earplugs, lip balm, and aromatherapy), educating patients and staff, and redesigning workflows to limit sleep interruptions at night. Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Survey scores for quietness at night increased from 66% to 76%, with fewer reported cases of delirium postimplementation. Background: Patients often consider bone marrow aspiration and biopsy to be one of the most painful medical procedures. The effectiveness of non‐pharmacological interventions to reduce pain during bone marrow aspiration and biopsy remains unclear. Aim: To synthesize existing evidence regarding the effectiveness of non‐pharmacological interventions in mitigating procedural pain among patients undergoing bone marrow aspiration and biopsy. Methods: Six electronic databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library and Web of Science were searched from inception to July 15, 2023. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool Version 2.0. Meta‐analysis was conducted using STATA 16. The certainty of the evidence was assessed by the GRADE approach. Results: This meta‐analysis included 18 studies derived from 17 articles involving a total of 1017 participants. The pooled results revealed statistically significant pain reduction effects using distraction (SMD: −.845, 95% CI: −1.344 to −.346, p <.001), powered bone marrow biopsy system (SMD: −.266, 95% CI: −.529 to −.003, p =.048), and acupoint stimulation (SMD: −1.016, 95% CI: −1.995 to −.037, p =.042) among patients undergoing bone marrow aspiration and biopsy. However, the pooled results on hypnosis (SMD: −1.228, 95% CI: −4.091 to 1.515, p =.368) showed no significant impact on pain reduction. Additionally, the pooled results for distraction did not demonstrate a significant effect on operative anxiety (MD: −2.942, 95% CI: −7.650 to 1.767, p =.221). Conclusions: Distraction, powered bone marrow biopsy system and acupoint stimulation are effective in reducing pain among patients undergoing bone marrow aspiration and biopsy. Google Scholar was used as a supplementary method. Frequentist NMA was used to determine the effects of various essential oils. Certainty of evidence (CoE) was assessed using Confidence in Network Meta‐Analysis (CINeMA).A total of 11 trials involving 690 critically ill patients were included in the analysis. The NMA of inhaled aromatherapy revealed that the combination of lavender, Matricaria recutita, and neroli essential oils (ratio 6:2:0.5) resulted in the most significant improvement in sleep quality compared to usual care, followed by Rosa damascene, peppermint, Citrus aurantium, pure sunflower oil and lavender oil alone. The overall CoE for the results was rated as low.The results of this study indicate that a combination of lavender, Matricaria recutita and neroli essential oils significantly positively affected sleep quality among critically ill patients. Introduction: The pain and long duration of childbirth cause many worries and complications for the mother. Therefore, this study was conducted with aim to determine the effect of aromatherapy with narcissus essential oil on labor pain. Methods: This single-blind clinical trial study was performed in 2020 on 80 primiparous pregnant women in experimental and control groups referred to Farideh Behbahani Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, Behbahan city, for natural delivery. The data collection tool was the demographic and obstetric information questionnaire and the visual pain scale. In the experimental group, in the active phase of labor, aromatherapy with narcissus flower essence and in the control group, distilled water was used. Pain was measured before the intervention (4 cm dilatation) and after the intervention (6, 8 and 10 cm dilatation) and the second stage of labor. Data analysis was done using SPSS software (version 20) and inferential statistical tests and descriptive statistics. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The mean pain intensity in the intervention group in the first stage of labor (dilations 4, 6, 8 and 10 cm) were 8.77 ± 0.71, 7.42 ± 0.79, 8 ± 0.77 and 8.43 ± 0.90, respectively and in the second stage of labor was 8.53 ± 1.59. In the control group, the mean pain intensity in the first stage of labor was 7.80 ± 1.18, 8.50 ± 0.83, 9.58 ± 0.60, and 9.13 ± 1.42, respectively and in the second stage of labor was 9.49 ± 0.61. Aromatherapy with narcissus flower essence caused a significant decrease in the pain intensity score of the first stage of labor in the intervention group compared to the control group in 4, 6, 8 and 10 cm dilatations of cervix (P<0.001). In the second stage of labor, the mean intensity of pain felt in the intervention group was significantly lower than the control group (P<0.001). Conclusion: Aromatherapy with narcissus flower essence can reduce the intensity of labor pain due to the presence of linalool compounds. Objective • To explore the effects of aromatherapy massage combined with TCM emotional release technique on maternal and neonatal physical and mental health and family relationships in patients with postpartum depression. Methods • A The total number of participants in the study was 160, who were evenly distributed through random assignment into four groups of 40 in each group. This random assignment process was designed to ensure that each group was similar in terms of demographic characteristics and other potential confounding factors to increase the comparability and internal validity of the study. The 160 patients with postpartum depression admitted to the obstetrics department of the Hebei 3a Hospital were enrolled between April 2021 and May 2022, and they were randomly divided into control group, sweet orange aromatherapy massage group, emotional release technique group and combination group, 40 cases in each group. The negative emotions, stress state, mania, levels of neurotransmitters and family intimacy adaptability were compared in the four groups before and after intervention. Results • After the intervention, scores of a generalized anxiety disorder (GAD-7) and Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS) in the combination group were higher than those in the other three groups, and were higher in the emotional release technique group and sweet orange aromatherapy massage group than control group (P < .05). After the intervention, scores of PTSD Checklist-Civilian Version (PCL) and 32-item hypomania checklist (HCL-32) were the highest in the control group, followed by the sweet orange aromatherapy massage group, emotional release technique group and combination group (P < .05). After the intervention, levels of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and dopamine (DA) were the highest in the combination group, followed by the emotional release technique group, sweet orange aromatherapy massage group, and control group (P < .05), and adaptability level of family intimacy was also in the same order (P < .05). In the combined treatment group, generalized anxiety disorder score (GAD-7) and postpartum depression scale (EPDS) scores were increased compared with the control group, indicating increased symptom severity in these two areas. GAD-7 and EPDS scores also increased significantly in the emotional release technique group and the sweet orange aromatherapy massage group. Although the magnitude of the increase may be different, both interventions seemed to lead to an increase in anxiety and depressive symptoms. As the intervention progressed, the control group had the highest scores on the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist-Citizen Version (PCL) and the Hyperactivity Checklist 32 (HCL-32), followed by the Sweet Orange Aromatherapy Massage Group and the Emotional Release Technique group and combined treatment group. This indicates that symptom severity was significantly higher in the control group than in the other intervention groups in both areas. Levels of serotonin (5-HT) and dopamine (DA) increased in different groups, the highest in the combined treatment group, followed by the emotional release technique group, sweet orange aromatherapy massage group and the control group. This may indicate that the combination treatment had a positive effect on modulating the levels of these neurotransmitters. The adaptation level of family intimacy also changed according to the same trend. The highest level was in the combined treatment group, followed by the emotional release technique group, the sweet orange aromatherapy massage group and the control group. This may mean that combined treatment has a positive impact on the adaptability of family relationships. Background: Massage and aromatherapy are frequently used by older adults as alternative interventions to enhance immunity and induce relaxation. This pilot study evaluated the effect of massage therapy with oil and aromatherapy alone and in combination using objective biological indices. Methods: Twenty‐eight participants recruited by convenience sampling included adults aged between 25 and 65 years (Group 1), elderly individuals over 65 years without nursing care (Group 2), and older adults over 65 needing long‐term nursing support (Group 3). A multiple‐group pretest‐post‐test design was employed, and the effect among the three groups was compared. Interventions included: (i) oil massage therapy; (ii) aromatherapy; and (iii) aroma oil massage therapy. Each therapy session lasted 5 min, with 3 min of observation before and after the session and 10 min interval between sessions. Group 3 omitted one therapy (2: aromatherapy) to reduce their physical burden. An electroencephalogram (EEG) was recorded for α, β, and θ activities of brain waves. EEG data were collected at three points: before, during, and after each treatment. Salivary secretory immunoglobulin A (s‐IgA) concentration, oxygen saturation (SPO2), and pulse rate were measured before and after each session. Results: Across all therapy modalities, there was a noticeable increase in the α wave, indicative of relaxation, during the treatment. Significant differences were observed before and during the oil massage in both Group 1 and Group 2. Aromatherapy demonstrated a significant difference before and during treatment in Group 1. Among the biological parameters, s‐IgA levels indicated no significant changes. The pulse rate decreased with oil massage. Significant differences were noted before and after therapy in all cases for SPO2 and in Group 2 for pulse rate. Conclusions: Three therapies induced EEG and physiological changes in the adult group and older adults without nursing care. However, these effects are limited in older adults requiring nursing care. Combination therapy at appropriately suitable doses presents a promising alternative to monotherapeutic drugs. In this study, Cinnamomum verum and Syzygium aromaticum essential oils and their major compounds have exhibited substantial leishmaniacidal potential against both promastigote and amastigote forms of Leishmania (L.) major. However, they displayed high cytotoxicity against Raw264.7 macrophage cells. Interestingly, when combined with each other or with amphotericin B, they demonstrated a synergistic effect (FIC<0.5) with low cytotoxicity. These combinations are able to modulate the production of nitric oxide (NO) by macrophages. Notably, the combination of S. aromaticum Essential oil with amphotericin B stimulates macrophage cells by increasing NO production to eliminate leishmanial parasites. Furthermore, investigation of the molecular mechanism of action of these synergistic combinations reveals potent inhibition of the sterol pathway through the inhibition of the CYP51 gene expression. Dental fear and anxiety (DFA) is known as an immense challenge in oral healthcare, which can result in compromised oral health, pain, and uncomfortable treatment. The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of essential-oil vaporization on acute anxiety of patients in dental practices. Four dental practices used five weekly cycles of vaporization with each scent: Orange (Citrus sinensis), Swiss Pine (Pinus cembra), Good Mood (blended essential oils: Citrus sinensis, Citrus aurantifolia, Citrus limon, Osmanthus fragrance (5%)), Forest Walk (blended essential oils: Abies grandis, Pinus cembra, Myrtus communis c. t. 1,8-cineol, Abies alba, Citrus paradisi, Abies sibirica, Pseudotsuga menziesii, Vetiveria zizanoides), and water. Acute anxiety was the primary outcome (state-trait-anxiety inventory (STAI-S)). Secondary outcomes were trait anxiety (STAI-T), dental anxiety (Kleinknecht dental fear survey), and pain perception in treatment (numeric rating scale). Across all patients (n = 486), STAI-S was slightly higher in the control group (40.7 ± 11.6) than in the intervention groups (38.4 ± 10.5). Post-hoc analyses revealed that the effect is only robust for the subgroup of female patients (n = 296, p = 0.044). We also conducted a post-hoc additional analysis on a subpopulation with an increased level of STAI-T ≥ 42 (n = 131 patients). For this group the difference in acute anxiety between the control group (51.1 ± 11.9, n = 30) vs. the intervention groups (46.8 ± 9.6, n = 118) was significant (T = 4.39, p = 0.0379). The results of the study indicate a promising potential of essential-oil vaporization to alleviate dental anxiety, particularly in the subgroups of patients with a high level of trait anxiety, and particularly in female patients. The calming effects of the essential-oil vaporization were also highlighted by the anecdotical statements of the dental-practice staff. The anxiety-reducing role of essential-oil vaporization alone and as one part of combined techniques to counter DFA should be further explored using multi-perspective methodological approaches in research. Introduction: Postpartum depression is a debilitating disease with negative consequences for affected mothers and their children which can be prevented and treated. This study was performed with aim to determine the effect of aromatherapy with Polianthes tuberosa on postpartum depression. Methods: This clinical trial study was conducted in 2018 on 154 high-risk women for postpartum depression in Karaj Kamali hospital. The study subjects were randomly divided into two groups: aroma therapy and control. In addition to receiving the usual care, the subjects in the intervention group received handmade cream with Polianthes tuberosa extract from the second day to 6 weeks after delivery 2 times a day with hand and face massage. In addition, the research tool (including demographic characteristics and the Edinburgh depression test) was filled in three different times (before, 2 and 6 weeks after delivery). The data analysis was done using the SPSS software (version 19) and independent t-test, analysis of variance with repeated measure and chi-square. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms demographic characteristics. The mean score of postpartum depression 2 and 6 weeks after labor in the intervention group was significantly reduced compared to the control group (P<0.001). Conclusion: The aromatherapy with Polianthes tuberose relieves the symptoms of postpartum depression and is an alternative and safe herbal medicine that can be used in high-risk people. Variations in the autonomic nervous system activity during exercise therapy in patients with cardiovascular diseases may lead to adverse events. Aromatherapy may reduce these adverse events by enhancing parasympathetic nervous activity (PNA). However, the effects of aromatherapy during exercise remain relatively unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of aromatherapy on autonomic nervous activity during exercise and recovery. This randomized crossover study included 20 healthy men subjected to both aroma and placebo conditions which involved rest and moderate-intensity aerobic exercise on a cycle ergometer, followed by recovery. Blood pressure, heart rate variability indices, and SpO2 were measured during the rest, exercise, and recovery phases. Moreover, aroma preferences and emotional changes in response to the aroma were assessed. Under the placebo condition, high frequency (HF), root mean square of successive differences indices, and heart rate showed delayed recovery (P < 0.05). Furthermore, a moderate positive correlation was identified between aroma preference, pleasant emotions induced by aromatherapy, and the HF index (P < 0.05). These results indicate that aromatherapy facilitates the recovery of PNA after exercise. Furthermore, these effects were more pronounced among individuals who exhibited a stronger preference for and more positive emotions toward aromas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Reporting of aromatherapy-focused research often lacks sufficient quality and detail for replication and subsequent application of results. To our knowledge currently, no quality appraisal tool exists for aromatherapy research reporting. To address this gap, the Aromatic Research Quality Appraisal Taskforce (ARQAT) composed of aromatherapy professionals with varied expert backgrounds came together. Presented here is the Transparent Reporting for Essential oil and Aroma Therapeutic Studies (TREATS) checklist, which is a result of this collaborative effort. Methods: Creation of TREATS followed a three-stage process, including determination of interest/need, development, and dissemination. The shortcomings of existing aromatherapy research reporting quality were evaluated and responses to address these shortcomings were used to create checklist items that were then grouped into sections. Items for each section were brain-stormed with reference to the aromatherapy literature and ARQAT's expert knowledge, and the development of each section followed an iterative process until agreement was reached. An explanatory document was also created to assist more accurate use of the tool; it and the checklist were reviewed by a group of aromatherapy experts. Results: The TREATS checklist with 38 items in four sections was developed along with the explanatory document. The ARQAT and a global group of aromatherapy experts reviewed the TREATS. Their results and comments assisted development of the current version. The TREATS identifies key components of research involving essential oils, their application, and olfactory considerations that ARQAT considers the minimum necessary for high-quality aromatherapy research. Conclusion: The TREATS, explanatory document, and associated website (www.arqat.org) contribute to thorough aromatherapy research critique. The TREATS checklist aids appraisal of quality and can be used with any study design. It lays the foundation for the future development of aromatic research reporting guidelines. Purpose: This study systematically analyzed the impact of aromatherapy on pain in individuals with diabetes. Methods: A search was performed in seven electronic databases based on the PICO-SD (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, Study Design) framework. The population (P) of interest was individuals with diabetes, and the intervention (I) included aromatherapy targeting pain reduction. The comparison (C) consisted of control groups that received no intervention, another intervention, or usual care. The outcome (O) measured was pain. The quality of the selected literature was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute checklist. In MIX 2.0 Pro, the pooled overall effect of pain was calculated using Hedge’s g and a random-effects model, and heterogeneity was calculated using the Q statistic and Higgin’s I2 values. Meta-regression and exclusion sensitivity analyses were performed. Results: Five articles and seven studies were included, showing a significant pooled overall effect of aromatherapy on diabetes-related pain (Hedge’s g = -1.83, 95% CI: -2.76 to -0.91). Meta-regression demonstrated that effectiveness in reducing pain was associated with studies conducted in West Asia, those with IRB approval, and those receiving funding. Additionally, interventions involving subjects under 60, lavender oil (vs. turpentine oil or blended oils), massage therapy (vs. topical application), fewer hours per session, and more repeated measurements (vs. pre/post measurements) were associated with pain reduction. Conclusion: Aromatherapy, especially with lavender oil, effectively manages diabetes-related pain. Short-duration massage application is also effective. Peloidotherapy and aromatherapy have been used for years in the treatment of numerous inflammatory conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The exact mechanism of their action in RA is unclear. The goal of our research is to determine the effect of peloidotherapy and aromatherapy on inflammation parameters in RA patients. Our study included 20 patients of both sexes, with confirmed diagnosis of RA, older than 18 years. Patients were treated during 28 days with combination of peloidotherapy and aromatherapy. Serum samples for detection of levels of inflammation parameters were taken at two intervals: before the start of therapy and at the end of treatment. The results of our study show that there were no significant changes in the parameters of the complete blood count. Nevertheless, a statistically significant decrease in the serum concentration of two markers of inflammation—interleukin-6 (IL-6) and nitrogen-oxide (NO)—was detected. Correlation analyses results say that there is a synchronized drop in the serum concentrations of CRP and the sedimentation rate, and the serum concentrations of fibrinogen and IL-6 are in the same relationship as well as serum levels of IL-6 and NO. Bearing in mind the importance of IL-6 and NO in the pathogenesis of inflammation in RA, we conclude that the application of our therapeutic protocol can be a significant add-on treatment to classic immunomodulators. Atopic dermatitis (AD) has become a common childhood disease that affects a large number of children worldwide and has become a chronic skin disease that causes huge economical and psychological damage to the whole family. Despite the use of steroids, immunosuppressants, and various topical preparation, the prognosis is still poor. Hence, this review aimed to explore the potential of using essential oils (EO) as an active ingredient in managing AD. The review was completed by using Pubmed, Scopus, and Medline to search for relevant articles that study the pathophysiology of AD, the properties of EO, the use of EO in managing AD, and the suitable advanced formulation to incorporate EO. From the review conducted, it was concluded that EO have huge potential in managing AD and can be used as complimentary therapeutic agents in AD treatment. To explore the experiences of the Namaste Care intervention for persons with advanced dementia (ie, moderate and late-stage) in long-term care (LTC). A qualitative descriptive design was used. Staff Carers (eg, personal support worker, nurse, or activity aide) delivered Namaste Care with the support of volunteers in a small group. Activities provided during the Namaste Care sessions to enhance quality of life included massages, aromatherapy, music, and snacks/beverages. Family carers of residents with advanced dementia, LTC staff, administrators, and volunteers from 2 Canadian LTC homes, located in a midsize metropolitan area, were included. Experiences and acceptability of Namaste Care was assessed through semistructured interviews ranging from 30 to 60 minutes following the 6-month study duration period with family carers, LTC staff, administrators, and volunteers. Thematic analysis was used for interview transcripts. A total of 16 family carers and 21 LTC staff, administrators, and volunteers participated in the study. Namaste Care was found to be acceptable and successful in enhancing the quality of life of residents due to collaborative efforts of all group of participants. Families, volunteers, and staff noted positive responses in residents, such as smiling and laughing. The program environment supported the development of relationships within the LTC community, which included families, residents, staff, and volunteers. Namaste Care was perceived by the LTC community as an acceptable intervention for persons with advanced dementia. Depression is a mood disorder mainly clinically characterized by significant and persistent low spirits. Chronic stress is the leading cause of depression. However, traditional medicine has severe side effects in treating depression, ineffective treatment, and easy recurrence. Therefore, it is of great significance to prevent depression in the environment of chronic stress. In this study, aromatherapy was used for the prevention of depression. To solve the defects of intense volatility and inconvenience in using essential oils, we designed bionic nano-aromatic drugs and adhered them to the wallpaper. Inspired by the moldy wallpaper, we successively prepared the morphologybionic nano-aromatic drugs, the function-bionic nano-aromatic drugs, and the bionic plus nano-aromatic drugs by referring to the morphology of microorganisms and substances in bacterial biofilms. Bionic nano-aromatic drugs remarkably promoted their adhesion on wallpaper. Molecular dynamics simulation explored its molecular mechanism. The essential oils, which were slowly released from the bionic nano-aromatic drugs, showed excellent biosecurity and depression prevention. These sustainedly released essential oils could significantly increase monoamine neurotransmitters in the brain under a chronic stress environment and had excellent neuroprotection. This paper explores the connection between scent and well-being (eudaimonia) in some ancient Greek and Roman sources. Focusing on the metaphor of the 'perfumer's garden' — the blend of scents in ancient perfumes used to evoke faraway lands like Arabia Felix or Egypt — the paper discusses how these aromatic creations communicate more than the fragrance of the gardens they come from. Believed to possess medicinal properties mirroring their plant sources, perfumes offer a unique window into health and social life. While all classes sought well-being through scent, specific perfumes varied based on factors like social status and gender. This work focuses on these variations, examining medical and philosophical texts about the relation of scent and health alongside literary case studies: Herodian's account of remedies used during the Antonine Plague, where class dictated perfume choice, and the use of Egyptian-inspired scents during the Hellenistic period, which expresses differences between men and women. In exploring these aromatic landscapes, we uncover a complexity where the essence of gardens and their fragrances reveal more than attempts at using scent to secure health; they show themselves to be rich sources of symbolic meaning reflecting the values and aspirations of ancient authors. Phytotherapeutic products in the field of psychiatry are rarely used. However, a significant number of patients take aromatherapy and phytotherapy treatments without informing their nursing staff, and sometimes with very little information from specialists. In this article, we'll look at how, within a mental health day hospital, we set out to explore and implement actions adapted to this particular context. A questionnaire was first distributed to 70 patients to assess their use of both plants and essential oils, and to identify their own needs and their own expectations. A clear demand for information emerged from this survey, which led to the writing of a "Guide to the use of essential oils and plants for relaxation and sleep". Then we set up aromatherapy workshops so that those who volunteered could prepare dilutions of essential oils for anxiolytic, hypnotic or anti-depressive purposes. Background: Traditional and evidence-based medicines, as seen depicted throughout human history, reportedly first begin with the application of medicinal plants, animal products, or inorganic minerals as a basic framework towards effectively engineering the prototypes generally aligned to pharmaceuticals and medical nutrition. The growing global trend of complementary treatments for glaucoma can be explained by the intraocular pressure (IOP)-independent mechanisms of the disease and its interpretation as a progressive neurodegenerative disorder. Unfortunately, the categorical positions of the major fields of applied popular complementary therapies and their relation to glaucoma are consistently neglected. Methods: In consideration of bibliographic resources, the most well-known online scientific databases were searched. Conclusion: The rising popularity and the trends of products coming onto the market cannot escape the attention of pharmacists and ophthalmologists, as their patients suffering from eye diseases are also increasingly looking for such medicinal products. Most of them still lack knowledge of the appropriate evidence and side effect profiles. Our proposed systematic charts demonstrate the position of each mainstream complementary therapy throughout the applied medical sciences and are distinctively unique; we could not find any similar relevant illustration or resource among the published international literature. Adolescents are individuals who are in a period of purbetas where there will be many changes such as the way of behavior and lifestyle. Insomnia is a condition that is often experienced by teenagers. Based on the National Sleep Foundation, the prevalence of insomniacs in Indonesia reaches 70%. Aromatherapy frangipani is one therapy that can relax so that the body can fall asleep. Frangipani contains triterpenoid compounds, amyrin, geraniol, citronellol, and linalool which can provide a relaxing effect. This research study aims to determine the relationship between the use of aromatherapy frangipani to improve sleep quality in adolescents. Research in this study uses literature review studies or literature reviews compiled using secondary data in the form of studies of research journals obtained from various scientific journal databases on the internet related to the relationship of aromatherapy use to improve sleep quality. The results, from 4 articles discussing the benefits of aromatherapy on improving sleep quality all showed that there was a significant influence between aromatherapy and the incidence of insomnia or improved sleep quality in adolescents. Bottom Line: Aromatherapy has a significant relationship to improved sleep quality and may reduce insomnia. Kemantan (Mangifera torquenda Kosterm) is a local fruit found in West Kalimantan which is rarely studied and is well known to many people. Kemantan is a genus with mango. Mango is one of the leading tropical fruits favored by people in the world. Mango is also famous for its content of multi vitamin, antioxidants, and many other nutritional content. Bay leaves (Eugenia polyantha) contain essential oils (citral, eugenol), tannins and flavonoids. Unfortunately, so far these two plants have only been consumed traditionally so they are boring and the rest is thrown away, therefore researchers want to use these plants to make fruit syrup. The research method was an experiment with a completely randomized design consisting of 1 treatment and 5 levels of bay leaf addition denoted by the letter (S). The materials used in this study for the manufacture of the product consisted of kemantan fruit, bay leaves, granulated sugar, CMC, and other. The steps: first, making bay leaf extract, second, making kemantan fruit syrup. Organoleptic test to provide an assessment of color, aroma, taste, texture, thickness, preference and overall with the rating format 5-1. Data analysis was carried out using the ANOVA method and the results were significantly different followed by the LSD test. The results showed that the best treatment for kemantan syrup products was S0 for color and aroma assessment. While the treatment for taste, thickness, texture, preference and overall assessment was S1. Kemantan syrup with the addition of bay leaves has a significant effect on texture parameters, very significant effect on color, taste, thickness, preference and overall and no significant effect on aroma. Cardiovascular disease remains a serious global threat and the leading cause of death worldwide. Patients with heart problems face significant physical and emotional challenges. This article uses a systematic design review concerning PRISMA to investigate the effect of rose aromatherapy inhalation on anxiety of heart patients. Data were synthesized from the Quasy Experiment and RCT by formulating PICO (Heart patients, Rose aromatherapy inhalation, Control group, Decreased anxiety levels). The results of the analysis of the six articles showed that rose aromatherapy had a positive influence on reducing anxiety in heart patients. Despite variations in research methods, these results overall support the potential effectiveness of rose aromatherapy as an additional approach to relieve anxiety in heart patients. Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the potential electrophysiological biomarkers of human responses by comparing the electroencephalogram brain wave changes towards lavender versus normal saline in a healthy human population. Method: This study included a total of 44 participants without subjective olfactory disturbances. Lavender and normal saline were used as the olfactory stimulant and control. Electroencephalogram was recorded and power spectra were analysed by the spectral analysis for each alpha, beta, delta, theta and gamma bandwidth frequency upon exposure to lavender and normal saline independently. Results: The oscillatory brain activities in response to the olfactory stimulant indicated that the lavender smell decreased the beta activity in the left frontal (F7 electrode) and central region (C3 electrode) with a reduction in the gamma activity in the right parietal region (P4 electrode) (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Olfactory stimulants result in changes of electrical brain activities in different brain regions, as evidenced by the topographical brain map and spectra analysis of each brain wave. Background: There is mounting evidence for the health benefits of aromatic scents for the older people with dementia. However, existing research has focused on indoor aromatherapy using essential oils. It is necessary to explore the health benefits of smellscapes in the outdoor environment for older people with dementia. Aims and Objectives: This scoping review aims to examine existing evidence for smellscape as a healing factor in institutional garden for older people with dementia, try to bridge the knowledge gaps between outdoor sensory garden scents and aromatherapy to develop green care techniques that incorporate outdoor activities. Methods: Seven databases (Scopus, PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL, MEDLINE, Embase and Web of Science) were searched with English language articles published between 1990 and 2022. The PRISMA‐ScR Checklist was used. Results: Out of 1013 articles, 11 meet the inclusion criteria. The comprehensive health outcomes include five aspects: mental health; physical health; reduced agitation behaviour; improved cognitive function; and well‐being. These aspects are part of the rehabilitation model comprising the person (older people with dementia), environment (garden smellscapes) and outdoor activities (active or passive interventions or a combination). Conclusions: The smellscape, as a healing factor in the garden, not only benefits from evidence on indoor aromatherapy but also creates a sensory environment for older people with dementia by compensating for functional impairment, activity support and environmental creation, thereby promoting enhanced health and well‐being. Relevance to Clinical Practice: The research on the healing effects of smellscapes presented in this review offers a novel environmental intervention technique for transferring evidence on essential oils to outdoor sensory gardens. This green care technique is suggested to assist in the creation of healing environments and interventions for people with dementia who cannot be cured. Background & objective: Preoperative anxiety is a natural human psychology, and the physicians usually prescribe tranquillizers to allay the anxiety of their anxiety. Various other means have also been employed for this purpose. We aimed to investigate the impact of lavender aromatherapy on preoperative anxiety and propofol requirement at induction of anesthesia. Methodology: A total of 108 female patients were enrolled in the study, and their anxiety levels were evaluated using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) at three different time points. Patients were randomly divided into two groups. Group A (Lavender Group) patients were given lavender aromatherapy via a cotton strip infused with two drops of 100% pure lavender essential oil, while the patients in Group B (Control Group) had no aromatherapy. Results: The results showed that the lavender aromatherapy significantly reduced anxiety in Group A (P < 0.001) compared to Group B, and the mean differences of VAS scores for all anxiety assessments were also significantly reduced in Group A (P < 0.000). In addition, the mean total amount of propofol required was significantly less in Group A than in Group B (118.46 ± 40.01 vs 140.38 ± 35.29 mg; P = 0.003), while the mean duration to reach loss of consciousness was similar in both groups. Conclusion: The findings of our study suggest that lavender aromatherapy can be a simple, safe, and cost-effective way to reduce preoperative anxiety and decrease the amount of propofol required for the induction of anesthesia. Stress is any kind of change that causes physical, emotional or psychological strain. Aromatherapy is one of the complementary therapies used as an alternative treatment to relax the body and influence emotional regulation, reduce stress and anxiety that can affect a person's sleep quality. This research was conducted to show that the use of aromatherapy is able to control anxiety and stress in a person at a productive age. Data of this research was obtained through an online questionnaire (Google Form) using the accidental sampling method. The questionnaire was tested for face and content validities on 15 respondents who met the inclusion criteria before being used to collect data. Construct validity and reliability using data from 110 respondents stated that all question items were valid and reliable. The population of this study was Surabaya residents and aged 15-64 years (productive age). The inclusion criteria for this research sample were being of productive age (aged 15-64 years), willing to fill out a questionnaire, and domiciled in Surabaya.The total number of respondents was 110. The scoring method used four answer options, with 4 differentscores. Aromatherapy was declared effective for reducing stress if the total score was 26-40 and ineffective if the total score was 10-25. The results of this study stated that aromatherapy was an alternative and complementary treatment to reduce mild stress, as evidenced by the 85 respondents who used aromatherapy, 78 respondents (91.78%) stated that aromatherapy played an effective role, while 7 other respondents (8.24%) stated that aromatherapy was not effective for reducing stress. Meanwhile, the level of knowledge related to the ability of aromatherapy to reduce stress in 25 respondents who had never used aromatherapy, 9 respondents (36%) had a good level of knowledge, 5 respondents (20%) had a sufficient level of knowledge, and 11 respondents (44%) had a poor level of knowledge.
