The 18th International Conference IEEE Nanotechnology Materials and Devices Conference (NMDC 2023) was held in Paestum, Salerno, Italy from October 22-25, 2023. The conference focused on research advances in the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology and provided a platform for researchers worldwide to showcase their work. The conference had 351 attendees from 39 countries and featured plenary talks, keynote speeches, invited talks, contributed talks, and poster presentations. The conference also included a pre-conference event on the utilization of machine learning in science and technology. This article critically describes and compares intraregional geopolitical imaginaries as they appear in the official discourses of two groups of states in EUrope: Soft Eurosceptic discourse of Hungary and Poland vs. Europhile discourse of France and Germany. The analysis is carried out through application of pragmatic analysis and language games analysis of official speeches of the leading politicians of these states delivered in the year 2018 on the theme of 'Future of Europe'. The theoretical framework of Rule-oriented Constructivism and the analytical framework of Critical Geopolitics guide this research. This research complements existing literature on geopolitical imaginaries highlighting the importance of linguistic practices, spatial understandings and intersubjective spaces in EUropean integration. The size of silicon nanowires (SiNWs) plays an important role for their application in nanoelectronic and nanophotonic systems. Therefore, it is of great interest to study the synthesis conditions of SiNWs in order to grow SiNWs with well-controlled manner to be integrated into a device. This paper includes a systematic study of the dependence of diameter and length of the SiNWs on the growth conditions. SiNWs were synthesized via vapor–liquid–solid (VLS) mechanism using a catalyst film of Sn nanoparticles on stainless steel (SS) substrate. The morphology and microstructure of SiNWs synthesized at different parameters were investigated with scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. In this study, we have observed that there exists a minimum size of the catalyst to initiate the growth of SiNWs for a given set of process parameters. Furthermore, this work also addresses the difficulties associated with the growth of long SiNWs. Effect of filament temperature on the morphology of SiNWs has also been studied. It is observed that their dimensions and geometrical orientation are greatly influenced by the filament temperature. At filament temperatures between 1400 and 1600 °C, short SiNWs with random distributions are observed. Long and vertical SiNWs are found if the filament temperature was raised to 1800–1950 °C. An on-chip micro-supercapacitor (μ-SC) based on Silicon nanowires (SiNWs) has been developed by Hot-wire chemical vapor process. First, finger patterned electrodes of Al were made on a silicon nitride coated Si wafer and SiNWs were then grown selectively on the Al electrodes. μ-SC performance has been tested in an ionic electrolyte and a capacitance of 13 μF/cm 2 has been obtained by the μ-SC. The resulted μ-SC can be exploited to store the harvesting energy in micro-electro-mechanical-systems and coupled with battery for peak power leveling. Low temperature growth of SiNWs at 350 °C makes it suitable for prospective flexible electronics applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, the effect of chamber pressure on the morphology of hot wire chemical vapor processed silicon nanowires (SiNWs) using Sn as catalyst has been studied. It is observed that their geometrical orientation can be controlled as per requirement by adjusting the growth pressure. SiNWs synthesized at low pressure of 0.67 Pa grow preferentially perpendicular to the substrate. If the pressure is increased to 2.7 Pa, SiNWs become tilted to the substrate and have bending type structure with random distribution. Further increase in the chamber pressure to 4 Pa very few wires are seen to grow and at 5.3 Pa no-growth of SiNWs is observed. Transmission electron microscopy study shows that the straight SiNWs have crystalline structure whereas the bent ones show polycrystalline structure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study presents a fabrication and electrochemical properties of nickel ferrite/graphene nanocomposite as electrodes material for supercapacitor application. The as‐prepared electrode was characterized using X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The electrochemical properties were measured using cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charging/discharging methods and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Graphene nanosheets play an important role of governing the morphology of the electrode material and thereby enhancing the electrochemical performance of the composite electrode. The specific capacitance of 207 F/g is obtained for nickel ferrite/graphene nanocomposite, which is almost 4 times larger than pure nickel ferrite. The nanocomposite showed a stable capacitance of 95% after 1000 cycles in 1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy results indicate that graphene nanosheets reduced the charge transfer resistance on the composite electrode. The obtained results show that the nanocomposite has a great potential to be used in supercapacitor with good electrochemical performance and longer cycle stability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
