This paper presents usage of a digital storage oscilloscope (DSO) to visualise the switching of electromotive force (emf) induced in a stationary solenoid with an oscillating bar magnet. The instantaneous switching of induced emf observed on a DSO screen is due to the flow of induced current through a solenoid in the reverse direction as per Lenz’s law. This paper presents a simple way of simulating the motion of two oscillators coupled via springs. A linear model using Hooke’s law describes the motion of a coupled oscillator through a set of two coupled second-order linear differential equations. A spreadsheet is programmed to obtain the numerical solutions of coupled differential equations using the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method. The main thrust behind programming the spreadsheet is to solve the differential equations for a physical system under different initial condition and to understand the motion of coupled masses graphically. The programmed spreadsheet can also be modified to include damping in the system and visualize a damped dynamical system. The algorithm developed for programming presents the use of inbuilt functions of the spreadsheet and is user-friendly, especially for those who are not familiar with the spreadsheets. Simulations of the coupled oscillator would help students to visualize the effect of variation of different parameters, such as mass, initial velocity, spring constant, and damping factor, on the motion of coupled oscillators. This paper presents the usage of an Excel spreadsheet for studying charged particle dynamics in the presence of uniform electric and magnetic fields. The equation of motion of the charged particle is developed under different conditions and the data is obtained in an Excel spreadsheet under variation of parameters such as the velocity of charged particle, applied field strength and direction. Excel spreadsheets are used as an excellent tool in physics laboratory experiments related to wave optics. This paper presents a simple way to simulate diffraction of waves through a slit using Excel spreadsheets without any tedious programming. These simulations are used to visualize the effect of variation of different parameters such as number of slits, wavelength of incoming light, slit width and slit separation on Fraunhofer diffraction pattern. We have been conducting the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope High Resolution Southern Sky (GHRSS) survey for the last four years and have discovered 18 pulsars to date. The GHRSS survey is an off-Galactic-plane survey at 322 MHz in a region of the sky (decl. range −40° to −54°) complementary to other ongoing low-frequency surveys. In this paper we report the discovery of three pulsars (PSRs), J1239−48, J1516−43, and J1726−52. We also present timing solutions for three pulsars previously discovered with the GHRSS survey: PSR J2144−5237, a millisecond pulsar with a period P = 5 ms in a 10 days orbit around a ≤0.18 M⊙ companion; PSR J1516−43, a mildly recycled P = 36 ms pulsar in a 228 days orbit with a companion of mass ∼0.4 M⊙; and the P = 320 ms PSR J0514−4408, which we show is a source of pulsed γ-ray emission. We also report radio polarimetric observations of three of the GHRSS discoveries, PSRs J0418−4154, J0514−4408, and J2144−5237. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
