Identification of Aneuraceae H.Klinggr. from the West Indies is a challenge as a modern taxonomic treatment for the region is lacking. Here we present a revision of the species from Guadeloupe and Martinique using an integrative, morphological and molecular approach. We recognize seven species of Riccardia Gray (R. chamedryfolia (With.) Grolle, R. fucoidea (Sw.) C.Massal., R. hymenophytoides (Spruce) Meenks, R. innovans (Steph.) Pagán, R. regnellii (Ångstr.) K.G.Hell, R. schwaneckei (Steph.) Pagán, R. stipatiflora (Steph.) Pagán) and one species of Aneura Dumort. (A. pinguis (L.) Dumort.) based on examination of types and other collections, as well as on molecular species delimitation analysis using barcoding methods. All species are briefly discussed and illustrated, and a key to species is provided. Riccardia diablotina (Spruce) Pagán, R. distans (Spruce) Pagán, R. grossidens (Steph.) Pagán and R. virgata (Gottsche ex Steph.) Pagán are new synonyms of R. fucoidea, and R. fendleri (Steph.) Pagán, R. planifrons (Spruce) Pagán and R. subsimplex (Steph.) The Guadeloupe archipelago has a rich bryophyte flora with 633 species, including 19 species considered endemic to Guadeloupe. Most of the endemic species are only known from type material and are of doubtful taxonomic status. An examination of the types and literature leads to the recognition of three confirmed endemic species in the Guadeloupe archipelago: Frullania trigona L.Clark, Jovet-Ast & Frye, Riccardia innovans (Steph.) Pagán and Trichosteleum glaucinum (Besch.) A.Jaeger. All three are very rare and only known from the type. Field searches to locate further populations were unsuccesful. The remaining "endemic" species are not restricted to Guadeloupe and most of them are synonyms of widely distributed taxa. Nine new synonyms and four new lectotypifications are proposed. The study shows that bryophyte endemism in the Guadeloupe archipelago is 0.5%. The results confirm the notion that endemism in bryophytes is low. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Sixty two (62) bryophytes (one hornwort, 36 liverworts and 25 mosses) are added to the flora of Martinique. These include ten new generic records: Phaeomegaceros, Bromeliophila, Monodactylopsis, Myriocoleopsis, Rectolejeunea, Anomobryum, Brymela, Bryohumbertia, Lepidopilidium and Microcampylopus. Campylopus anderssonii and C. heterostachys are newly reported for the West Indies. Drepanolejeunea fragilis and Anomobryum conicum are new for the Lesser Antilles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Checklists of the bryophytes of the Guadeloupe archipelago (including La Désirade, Marie-Galante and Les Saintes archipelago) and Martinique are presented based on published data, herbarium specimens and fieldwork. 613 species taxa, including 361 of liverworts, 242 of mosses and 10 of hornworts, are recorded from the Guadeloupe archipelago and 355 species (190 liverworts, 156 mosses, 9 hornworts) from Martinique. Fifty species (20 liverworts, 29 mosses, 1 hornwort) are new to the Guadeloupe archipelago and 21 (8 liverworts, 13 mosses) are new to Martinique. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
