This ethnographic study explores how severely ill and dying persons participating in expressive forms of culture, such as art, blogging and talking, confront dying and death. Influenced by the increasing relevance of values such as expressivity and creativity and the mediatisation of everyday life, more and more people facing death in globalised Western culture seek their own expressive ways to deal with finitude in online and offline contexts. Framed by Tony Walter's sociology of death, which captures key features of death attitudes within Western societies, this study identifies commonalities in the different expressive endeavours at the end of life. The data for the analysis stem from encounters with 12 persons receiving palliative care in Switzerland. The study found that the performances of individualistic expressivity are informed by the idea of personal growth, prosumer and sharing culture, a quest for belonging and the wish for silence. People on the autism spectrum can learn about autism from various sources, likely differing in the information, portrayal, and discussion they offer. The present study investigates where autistic people learn about autism, and whether their information source is associated with their level of autism knowledge, perceptions of stigma, and development and expression of an autism identity. A survey of 198 Australian adults with an autism diagnosis showed that learning about autism from conventional sources (e.g., professionals, parents) was associated with more internalised stigma, lower endorsement of special abilities and autism identity, whereas online blogs and social media showed the opposite pattern as well as more accurate knowledge of autism. Partners of fly‐in fly‐out (FIFO) workers face increases in demands, for instance in care and family responsibilities, particularly in the absence of workers; however, little is known about how their daily life experiences influence their health across the FIFO work cycle. This study examined the within‐person effects of workload, job control and social support on affective states and health behaviours of partners of FIFO workers. Forty‐four (N = 44) partners of FIFO workers completed online diary surveys on affective states and health behaviours once a day for 28 consecutive days during on‐and off‐shift periods of the FIFO worker. Multilevel models were used to analyse day‐level data. The results of the study demonstrated significant differences in partners' depressed affect and alcohol consumption during both on‐ and off‐shift periods of FIFO workers. Daily increases in workload were associated with anxious affect, whereas daily increases in job control and social support were associated with low depressed affect and positive affect in partners of FIFO workers. Daily increase in social support was also found to be associated with an increase in daily alcohol intake. Interventions could support partners in managing the daily workload and encouraging the creation of social support networks in partners of FIFO workers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Social media may have an impact on people’s interaction patterns and social relationships. Investigating the interaction patterns of learners across various social media platforms can provide profound insights into the characteristics and mechanisms of connectivist learning. This study explores interaction network characteristics and the dynamic evolution of interaction patterns across multiple social media platforms within a cMOOC by using SNA and SIENA. The results show that cMOOC learners' interaction patterns have evolved with different characteristics on WeChat, blogs, and forums, eventually forming distinct interaction networks on each platform. The interaction networks on WeChat demonstrate superior performance in terms of size, cohesion, and connectivity, followed by the networks on blogs, and lastly, those on forums. WeChat and blog interaction networks exhibit a multi-center structure and modular characteristics, while forum interaction networks display a single-center structure. The evolution of interaction patterns on WeChat reveals more significant effects, such as reciprocity, transitivity, homophily, and preferential attachment, in contrast to blogs and forums, where transitivity and homophily are not prominent. The paper concludes with a discussion on the interaction patterns and network characteristics supported by three types of social media. his research analytical study aims to explore the linguistic levels in Arafah sermons, In light of Ducrot and Anscombre's theory, and examines how these sermons address the argumentative ladder. The study began with an overview that defined the topic, its significance, and its inquiries, followed by an explanation of Ducrot and Anscombre's theory. The first research was about the linguistic levels of argumentation in the contexts of Arafah sermons, then the second research was about the contexts of Arafah sermons through the logical levels of pilgrims, and the third research was about the argumentative scale of Arafah sermons, then the conclusion, which included results and recommendations, then a list of sources and references. The research has adopted the deliberative approach to analyze the speeches of Arafah. The research uncovered the key findings: argumentation is a foundational theory used in variousdisciplines like jurisprudence, logic, rhetoric, language, etc. Ducrot and Anscombre's argumentation theory emphasizes that language is primarily used for argumentation and secondarily for conveying information, with speakers intending to inform. And that argumentation occurs through interconnected linguistic sequences that create semantic blocks that are capable of producing argumentation.. The study revealed that Arafah's sermons were full of reasoning, questions, and outcomes, He also showed the use of the argumentative ladder by the preachers on the Day of Arafah, and their interest in it to perform the persuasive function. This is a further review of evaluation blogs, podcasts and webinars in the first half of 2024. It follows on from the previous 'roundup' of 2023 published in Evaluation in this year's April issue. As before, hundreds of sources have been considered, and although this review is inevitably personal and selective, I believe it captures many of the important trends and debates informing current evaluation practice. The review is organised around key trends that emerged throughout the first half of the year, some of which continued and evolved from last year. It begins by considering ongoing debates about artificial intelligence and indigenous evaluation, before identifying further topics which have garnered particular attention so far in 2024. Microblogs and social media sites have gained a central place and people use these platforms to express their opinions, sentiments, and thoughts about products, news, events, blogs, etc. Sentiment analysis is the process of exploring opinions and sentiments in user reviews and tweets. This area is still in its early developmental phase and requires imperative improvements on various issues. One of the main issues is multilingual tweets and reviews. Earlier sentiment analysis techniques only classified the text of a specific language, i.e., English, Turkish, etc. The accuracy of these techniques decreases in the presence of multilingual text. Existing methods are domain oriented. Using BERT and a lexicon, we propose a method for sorting out multilingual text and improving the polarity calculation of reviews. This paper proposed a new algorithm of the credibility evaluation concerning microblog users, based on their multiple interactive relationships and emotional tendencies. Firstly, the algorithm calculated the interaction degree and participation degree of users by analyzing the types and frequency of interactions among users. Secondly, this algorithm made the emotional scores of the textual contents including comments and replied among users by using a sentiment dictionary, and assessed users' emotional tendencies. Thirdly, based on the PageRank algorithm, the new algorithm extracted the features from user profiles and blog posts in order to compute the initial PageRank value for representing individual user credibility, adjusted the distribution of PageRank weights by integrating the user interaction degree and emotional tendencies, and modified the damping factor in accordance with the participation degree. Finally, the proposed algorithm made the credibility of the evaluated users after the iterative stabilization. The experimental results show that, compared to methods that overlook multi-interaction relationships and emotional tendencies, the new algorithm achieves better results with an improvement of up to 13.86% in terms of AUC value, precision, recall, and F₁-measure. The method that considers multiple interaction relationships and emotional tendencies can enhance the effectiveness of microblog user credibility evaluation with respect to microblog users. Group‐hunting animals have been shown to engage their prey in long pursuits (kms) to increase capture success, but the evidence for this is limited to a few terrestrial species. This predation strategy may be effective in the open‐ocean, where group‐hunts are characterised by large predator–prey size ratios and there are few places for prey to hide.However, recording the attack rates, capture rates and capture success probabilities of grouping predators during long‐distance pursuits through the open ocean, remains a significant challenge.Here we use a combination of underwater and aerial video to assess the attack and capture behaviour of striped marlin, Kajikia audax, in relation to the movement of their schooling prey ('stationary' and 'mobile' movement states) during group hunts.We found that the attack rate was higher when the prey school was 'stationary' and, during these times, individual marlin could make longer sequences of uninterrupted attacks on the prey school, effectively monopolising the prey resource for short periods over conspecifics.When the prey school was 'mobile', the attack pattern changed and individual marlin alternated their attacks on the prey school more frequently. Capture success probability (likelihood of capture per attack) was not affected by prey movement state. However, attacks on 'mobile' schools resulted in more prey fish becoming isolated from the school, and these isolated prey were easily captured—not by the attacker but by conspecifics swimming nearby.The likelihood of a prey becoming isolated from a 'mobile' school was predicted by prey school speed, with a 0.1 m s−1 increase leading to an 18.01% increase in the chance of isolation.Altogether this meant the capture rate at the group level was highest when the prey school was 'mobile' rather than 'stationary' because the predators that were pursuing the 'mobile' prey school had an increased availability of isolated and easy to capture prey.This mechanism provides evidence for a by‐product mutualism selecting for conspecific group formation and we discuss our findings in consideration of the social structure of the hunting group and the type of prey. From soil to freshwater ecosystems, decomposition can be conceived as the result of interactions between organic matter and a diversity of organisms. This function is driven in part by detritivores, invertebrates that feed on detritus or graze on its associated microbes and that have a significant but extremely variable contribution to decomposition.In order to better understand and predict detritivore–detritus pairwise interactions, we propose a conceptual framework, called Detri2match, to study the consumption of detritus by detritivores, using a trait‐matching approach at the individual detritivore level. Here, we focus on the interaction between saprophagous detritivores that fragment plant detritus.We propose a novel definition of a saprophagous detritivore as an animal that consumes plant detritus when its traits match sufficiently the traits of its resource, passing through five interaction facets of consumption. These include (1) a spatial match rule regarding the encounter, (2) a biomechanical match rule regarding ingestion, (3) a digestive match rule regarding assimilation, (4) an energetic match rule regarding the fulfilment of metabolic needs and (5) a nutritional match rule regarding the fulfilment of chemical element needs in adapted proportions.The main goal of this framework is to guide future research to establish generic rules of misunderstood detritus–detritivore pairwise interactions by identifying relevant interaction facets and their key associated traits for both detritivores and detritus. This investigation should be conducted over the temporal variability of trait‐matching constraints throughout the whole decomposition process. Coupled with adequate accumulation of trait information, the Detri2match framework could also facilitate predictions by inference of non‐tested pairwise detritivore–litter interactions.We also outline conceptual, methodological and analytical challenges of this framework. The main challenge would be to scale up these pairwise rules at the detrital network level and to test their genericity, which would contribute to a better understanding of the functioning of the detrital network and its contribution to decomposition. People who experience symptoms of autoimmune diseases often have to struggle for illness recognition. Women experiencing such symptoms face additional challenges as their accounts of pain are frequently treated with skepticism. This study examines experiences of people living with Sjögren's Syndrome, an autoimmune disease which is primarily diagnosed in women, by conducting an analysis of individual vlogs posted on YouTube using the themes of gender, chronic illness and neoliberal governmentality. Sjögren's Syndrome is the second most common rheumatic disease after rheumatoid arthritis and affects nearly 4 million people in the United States alone. An analysis of 70 vlogs posted by people living with the disease revealed the challenges faced by them including diagnostic delays and perceived attitudinal biases amongst medical professionals, especially in the context of the gender of the patients. Apart from highlighting the impact of the disease on their gendered roles, the vloggers urged viewers to conduct their own research on the disease and advocate for themselves during interactions with physicians. The study illuminates how dissatisfaction with healthcare services reinforces neoliberal rationalities such as individual advocacy, resilience and self-labor. The findings of the study delineate the role of neoliberal governmentality in making self-management of chronic illnesses such as Sjögren's Syndrome an internalized ideal for women living with the disease. Additionally, the study provides empirical evidence of the need for addressing the medical and socio-cultural factors that contribute to delays in the diagnosis and management of Sjögren's Syndrome. AbstractThis quasi-experimental study examined the use of a blog as a mental health resource for students. The main objective was to determine if occupational therapy graduate students benefited from using a resource to support their mental health. A purpose-specific survey was used to assess student perceptions. Sixty-five students participated in the survey and 73% of those students reported the blog helped them to manage their mental health. The results indicate that using a blog as a strategy to support student mental health is beneficial. This study is limited by a small homogenous sample; however, serves as a resource for educators. Mommy blog communities have been established by mothers who publish their stories online with the stated purpose to empower themselves and their peers by offering a seemingly unfiltered representation of motherhood. While this benefit has been felt by many readers, there are invisible governing discourses that have prevented such blogs from becoming authentic spaces of resistance to the hegemonic ideals of motherhood. To understand the governing forces placed upon mothers through “mommy blogs,” we explored the question: How is motherhood shaped through narratives (re)presented in mommy blogs? Critical discourse analysis, informed by a governmentality perspective, was used to analyze mommy blog entries to illuminate representations of power and knowledge within the blog entries. The findings suggest that a governmentality perspective is useful in understanding how mommy blogs enact power over mothers using mechanisms of governance through 1) sameness and imperfection, 2) perceived self-compassion, 3) advice and support, and 4) the scientification of motherhood. As more people turn to online communities for support with the experience of mothering, it is important to garner a critical understanding of how mommy blogs continue to influence contemporary experiences of motherhood. Concept class analysis (CoCA) is a method for recovering cultural schemas in texts using a combination of word embedding and community detection models. Like survey-based forms of schematic class analysis (SCA), however, interpreting results can be difficult. Some of these interpretive difficulties are applicable across types of SCA, while others are unique to CoCA. In this paper, we propose a complete workflow for interpreting and analyzing CoCA output. We use the case of social identity schemas in a collection of over 13,000 U.S. political blog posts to outline a number of interpretive and analytical strategies and a robustness check to make sense of the cultural schemas recovered from texts. Language is a vehicle for telling the truth and for lies. While linguistic profiles have been used to analyze the language used when telling lies, the linguistic profile of pathological liars has yet to be examined. The purpose of our study was to examine the linguistic profile of pathological liars, specifically from entries made in blogs and forums. We used the Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count software to analyze the narratives of 22 self-reported pathological liars and compared those narratives to normative blog data. We found that pathological liars used more affective processes, negative emotion, risk, and family words. Additionally, pathological liars' narratives contained fewer words, were less analytic, contained less clout, consisted of less tone, and were more authentic. The current surge in the deployment of web applications underscores the need to consider users' individual preferences in order to enhance their experience. In response to this, an innovative approach is emerging that focuses on the detailed analysis of interaction data captured by web browsers. These data, which includes metrics such as the number of mouse clicks, keystrokes, and navigation patterns, offer insights into user behavior and preferences. By leveraging this information, developers can achieve a higher degree of personalization in web applications, particularly in the context of interactive elements such as online games. This paper presents the WebTraceSense project, which aims to pioneer this approach by developing a framework that encompasses a backend and frontend, advanced visualization modules, a DevOps cycle, and the integration of AI and statistical methods. The backend of this framework will be responsible for securely collecting, storing, and processing vast amounts of interaction data from various websites. The frontend will provide a user-friendly interface that allows developers to easily access and utilize the platform's capabilities. One of the key components of this framework is the visualization modules, which will enable developers to monitor, analyze, and interpret user interactions in real time, facilitating more informed decisions about user interface design and functionality. Furthermore, the WebTraceSense framework incorporates a DevOps cycle to ensure continuous integration and delivery, thereby promoting agile development practices and enhancing the overall efficiency of the development process. Moreover, the integration of AI methods and statistical techniques will be a cornerstone of this framework. By applying machine learning algorithms and statistical analysis, the platform will not only personalize user experiences based on historical interaction data but also infer new user behaviors and predict future preferences. The significance of the web and the crucial role of web archives in its preservation highlight the necessity of understanding how users, both human and robot, access web archive content, and how best to satisfy this disparate needs of both types of users. To identify robots and humans in web archives and analyze their respective access patterns, we used the Internet Archive's (IA) Wayback Machine access logs from 2012, 2015, and 2019, as well as Arquivo.pt's (Portuguese Web Archive) access logs from 2019. We identified user sessions in the access logs and classified those sessions as human or robot based on their browsing behavior. To better understand how users navigate through the web archives, we evaluated these sessions to discover user access patterns. Based on the two archives and between the three years of IA access logs (2012 vs. 2015 vs. 2019), we present a comparison of detected robots vs. humans and their user access patterns and temporal preferences. The total number of robots detected in IA 2012 (91% of requests) and IA 2015 (88% of requests) is greater than in IA 2019 (70% of requests). Robots account for 98% of requests in Arquivo.pt (2019). We found that the robots are almost entirely limited to "Dip" and "Skim" access patterns in IA 2012 and 2015, but exhibit all the patterns and their combinations in IA 2019. In spite of the superior effects of semester- or year-long educational experiences abroad, the majority of students prefers short-term study abroad for which participation numbers are steadily rising. Due to the increased student interest in short-term study abroad options, investigations into how a short stay abroad can be designed to maximize learning outcomes for participants are important. While some studies suggest that technology can have negative impacts on language learning during study abroad, effective inclusion of technology can maximize learning. This article summarizes the results of three years of research investigating the effects of daily online journaling during an intensive German summer program on second language (L2) learners' writing skills during an intensive German summer program. The context of the program will be described along with the rationale for including online journaling assignments. The study investigates whether there is a relationship between the amount students wrote in their daily blogs and their writing development, and whether students' linguistic progress can be traced in their journal posts. Lastly, the article will provide a pedagogical evaluation of the benefits of incorporating journaling or blogging in short-term study abroad programs and present suggestions for successful projects. The terms journaling and blogging are used interchangeably in this manuscript; while a blog was used as the journal platform in this project, a different format than a blog can serve the same purpose of providing a space for reflective journaling for students. The current study by Konstantinovskaia is a critical investigation of how such notions as "beauty" and "femininity" are constructed, communicated, and defied in Japanese and Russian societies. It adopts a cross-cultural and three-level approach to data evaluation wherein TV ads, interviews, and blog information are utilized to probe into gendered language through the lens of ideology, expectations, and practice. The monograph illustrates that the typology of desirable females in Russian and Japanese TV ads is somewhat diverse and that women have varying views of what is "feminine" and "non-feminine" conduct. It also reveals the complicated evolution of discourses and ideologies on women within these two highly mobile societies. Communicating results and ideas to a wider audience has been an important, but challenging component of scientists working in an academic environment. Particularly in recent decades, various social media platforms have become increasingly important to facilitate this. In addition, many scientists have used blogging platforms to communicate and discuss their work. Although the online dynamics of science communication are continuously changing, blogging has been used in a remarkably stable form for several decades. For this work, we brought several ecology bloggers to reflect on blogging as a science communication medium. We argue that blogging can be a powerful way to present new ideas and discuss them with a wide audience. Although blogs are not the same as scientific articles, they often serve as the initial brainstorm session. Importantly, we argue that blogs are most effective when bloggers and readers actively engage in conversations. The COVID-19 pandemic introduced many restrictions to in-person interactions, and remote social interactions may be especially important for managing loneliness when such restrictions are in place. However, it is unclear how social interactions are related to loneliness when in-person interactions are limited. Data were collected between February 2021 and March 2022 from a sample of 581 university students. Participants reported their loneliness and participation in positive in-person or remote social interactions each day for 14 days. Results from dynamic structural equation models showed that participants felt less lonely than they usually felt on the days they engaged in positive remote interactions at the within-person level. Moreover, participants generally felt less lonely when engaging more frequently in remote interactions, but only when in-person interactions were restricted (between-person level). Some of these results varied by changing COVID-19 restrictions. Finally, for participants who felt lonelier in general, the effect of positive in-person and remote interactions on loneliness was less strong. Objective: Online pro‐ana communities encourage, rather than denounce, eating disorder (ED) behaviours. Most research analyses online pro‐ana content. Fewer studies have interviewed bloggers directly. To the authors' knowledge, no previous studies have analysed both posts and interview data from pro‐ana bloggers. This study aimed to explore bloggers' experiences of online pro‐ana communities, analysing posts and interview data. Method: Five pro‐ana bloggers participated in semi‐structured interviews over Skype or Telegram. Bloggers' posts and interview data were analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis, a qualitative method of analysis that emphasises the detailed exploration of participants' individual experiences and how they make sense of these experiences. Results: Five superordinate themes were identified: ambivalence towards pro‐ana; social support; 'Ana' way of life; body/weight desperation; and hidden ED identity. Participants reported hiding their pro‐ana blog, for fear of judgement from offline others. In contrast, participants experienced online pro‐ana communities as a source of understanding, connection and solidarity that counteracted stigma experienced in the offline world. All participants idealised 'Ana' (anorexia), either as an admirable lifestyle or as the idealised, personification of anorexia, named 'Ana'. Simultaneously, participants experienced pro‐ana communities as deceptive and/or harmful, demonstrating ambivalence towards pro‐ana. Conclusions: Findings suggest that community and shared understanding are important to individuals accessing pro‐ana content. Therapists may explore this further with clients, alongside any ambivalence towards pro‐ana and/or alternative supportive environments, such as online support groups. This may reduce isolation, without idealising ED behaviours. Future research could explore bloggers' relationships with the personified 'Ana' and experiences of non‐Western and male users. Skill building is a widely recognized teaching goal in philosophy. Some well-researched skill building techniques include scaffolded assignment design, low-stakes assignments, and peer-review. Many papers have highlighted the efficacy of these techniques by demonstrating novel course and assignment design; for example, the use of blogging in philosophy courses has been shown to have positive results on student writing. While the efficacy of skill building centered course design on student learning seems uncontroversial, two major problems are typically raised: the time investment for such course design is significant and implementing these techniques in large classes is not possible. The central aim of this paper is to combat this second claim. I present a course designed around skill building that has been successfully implemented in classes of from 120 to 450 students. I show some techniques that make this implementation possible and not unwieldy, and I argue that students both improved their philosophical skills and enjoyed the course design. What is it that develops in adult life? Development through work and family life have been documented and theorised in detail, but much less is known about what is learned beyond these domains, through people's engagements in hobbies or when out of work (e.g., unemployed, retired). We argue that adult development can be addressed in general terms, beyond domain specificity; drawing on our sociocultural psychology framework, and assuming an open-system perspective, we highlight the two processes of progressive differentiation and psychological distancing in diverse domains of activity. To address development over time, we explore 20 years of people's lives through the longitudinal analysis of online diaries. A combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis enables us to identify people's experiences of rupture and transitions, the diversity of their domains of interests, and how these change over time. Based on a case-study, we show that, if the general direction of development does entail progressive differentiation and distanciation, these processes can also be hindered by the cumulation of vulnerabilising events. Detecting texts that contain semantic-level new information is not straightforward. The problem becomes more challenging for research articles. Over the years, many datasets and techniques have been developed to attempt automatic novelty detection. However, the majority of the existing textual novelty detection investigations are targeted toward general domains like newswire. A comprehensive dataset for scientific novelty detection is not available in the literature. In this paper, we present a new triplet-based corpus (SciND) for scientific novelty detection from research articles via knowledge graphs. The proposed dataset consists of three types of triples (i) triplet for the knowledge graph, (ii) novel triplets, and (iii) non-novel triplets. We build a scientific knowledge graph for research articles using triplets across several natural language processing (NLP) domains and extract novel triplets from the paper published in the year 2021. For the non-novel articles, we use blog post summaries of the research articles. Our knowledge graph is domain-specific. We build the knowledge graph for seven NLP domains. We further use a feature-based novelty detection scheme from the research articles as a baseline. Moreover, we show the applicability of our proposed dataset using our baseline novelty detection algorithm. Our algorithm yields a baseline F1 score of 72%. We show analysis and discuss the future scope using our proposed dataset. To the best of our knowledge, this is the very first dataset for scientific novelty detection via a knowledge graph. The article explores the variation between the possessive prepositional construction and the s-genitive in Danish with respect to five factors: animacy, definiteness, type of possessive relation, givenness, and length. The goal is to establish if and in what way these factors influence the selection between the two adnominal possessive constructions. The study is based on a newly compiled corpus of contemporary Danish texts, namely, literary, press, and blog texts. The corpus consists of over 114,000 word tokens. The material is studied quantitatively; the chi-square test of independence is used to determine whether there is a significant association between the studied factors and the possessive construction, and the classification and regression tree analysis is used to determine the relative importance of each factor. The results indicate that animacy, type of possessive relation, and definiteness especially significantly contribute to the selection between the prepositional construction and the s-genitive. The prepositional construction is favored when the possessor phrase referent is inanimate and indefinite. During the global COVID-19 pandemic one population that faced special challenges was individuals with preexisting chronic health conditions. In this study, we examined how people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) managed their autoimmune disease, considering their increased susceptibility to contracting COVID-19. Specifically, we analyzed how people with IBD made sense of their precarious position through the writing of publicly accessible blogs. We found that for IBD patients, navigating healthcare needs in the context of pandemic-related concerns and restrictions meant grappling with several salient, but conflicting tensions: separation vs. connection, safety vs. exposure, uncertainty vs. control, and resilience vs. vulnerability. People with IBD struggled to find a balance between living with IBD while keeping themselves and their loved ones safe from the virus. In the postfeminist context, discourses of time panic and time scarcity are used to generate a culture of anxiety that justifies gender traditionalism. Food blogs offer unique insights into the ways that these postfeminist discourses of temporality and labour are negotiated in the daily, lived experiences of individual women. I draw on a sample of 19 Saveur Award-nominated food blogs to explore how they respond to concepts of time panic and time scarcity through discussions and depictions of women’s work, retreatism, and postfeminist subjectivity. I perform a thematic analysis in conjunction with an architectural analysis of food blogs’ database narratives to discuss how postfeminist time scarcity—and its attendant anxieties—are rejected through fantasised depictions of domesticity as a creative pursuit and digital entrepreneurialism as an empowering endeavour. While the reading of such fantasised representations is ultimately ambivalent, particularly given the diversity of ways an audience may respond to these positionalities, I find that food blogs tend to reinforce the focus on the individual’s resilience, resourcefulness, and responsibility to make correct choices and resolve postfeminist contradictions, particularly through the affective management of food work. Making intersectional interventions within ecofeminism and rhetorical studies, this essay examines Black women's vegan rhetoric on the website Black Vegans Rock! We argue that Black women's vegan rhetoric includes two primary themes. First, their vegan rhetoric reveals how Black women find healing and love through veganism. In a world that shows little compassion for their needs, Black women turn to veganism to embrace radical acts of self-love and heal from trauma caused by misogynoir. Second, their vegan rhetoric underscores the challenges of Black women's self-identification. Black women must navigate the whiteness of vegan spaces and restrictive social norms involving their body and hair, creating hurdles for Black women's existence in both mainstream (white) vegan movements and Black communities. Through our analysis, we chart Black women's decolonial ecological practices, which continue to go substantially understudied in ecofeminist and rhetorical studies scholarship. Although the influence of celebrities on public health-related attitudes and behaviors is well established, the specific role that celebrity examples play in shaping health-related social norm perceptions is not well understood. To examine the effect of celebrities on social norm perceptions, young adults were randomly assigned to read news articles about vaping that either featured one of four film stars using a vape pen or did not contain any celebrity exemplar. The presence or absence of a celebrity exemplar did not affect readers' perceptions of vaping social norms. However, three types of audience involvement with the celebrities – liking, parasocial relationship strength, and wishful identification, were examined as mediators of the relative effects of the different celebrities on vaping norm perceptions. The results suggest that celebrities who people like more and those who they wishfully identify with less can wield a greater influence on social norms. PSR strength did not mediate indirect effects of celebrity on social norm perceptions. Digital influencers who spread information about pop divas approach the deglamorization of their lives by paratextualizing activities carried out by them in their daily routines. Accordingly, this current study advocates that this deglamorization process points towards the “topification” of divas’ bodies, since it highlights their urgency to distance themselves from the utopianism required to keep their bodies as glamorized bodies. Thus, its aim is to analyze how Brazilian digital influencers paratextualize pop divas deglamorization process by subjecting influencers’ discourse to Foucault’s Discourse Analysis. The herein analyzed research file comprised news reports published on gossip blogs about pop divas. Results have evidenced two discursive formations: the first one refers to the formation and promotion of pop divas’ image and the second one reveals the support given to them. Free Open-Access Medical Education (FOAMed) has transformed medical education in the past decade by complementing and substituting for traditional medical education when needed. The attractiveness of FOAMed resources is due to their inexpensive nature, wide availability, and user ability to access on demand across a variety of devices, making it easy to create, share, and participate. The subject of nephrology is complex, fascinating, and challenging. Traditional didactic lectures can be passive and ineffective in uncovering these difficult concepts and may need frequent revisions. Active teaching methods like flipped classrooms have shown some benefits, and these benefits can only be multifold with current social media tools. Social media will inspire the involvement of students and allow them to create and share educational content in a "trendy way," encouraging the participation of their peers and thus building an educational environment more conducive to them while promoting revision and retainment. FOAMed also promotes asynchronous learning, spaced learning, microlearning, and multimodal presentation with a meaningful variation. Advancements in Internet and communication technologies have facilitated the proliferation of product reviews and commentary pertaining to smart speakers. This study investigated the impacts of uncivil comments on blog comment credibility. Results show that the civil opinion commentary appears to be more credible than uncivil commentary. The interaction between civil opinion and low AI anxiety generates more blog review credibility than the interaction between uncivil opinion and low AI anxiety. Finally, we identify moderating effects of AI anxiety and provide deeper insights into how the interaction of comment civility and AI anxiety shape the credibility assessments of blog reviews. This article contributes to understanding the radical transformation of everyday lives when parents' remote work and children's remote school were reconciled in homes during the early moments of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The dataset comprises an online survey (n = 92) plus interviews, online diaries, and sampled experiences from 16 Finnish remotely working parents. Identified challenges to the parents' remote work included interruptions and fragmentation of work tasks, non-optimal work ergonomics, and rescheduling of work times. We present the strategies parents used to create new rhythms and routines, a shared space under the same roof, peace, and privacy for daily work and school, as well as managing multiple simultaneous social roles. Parents' rich experiences provide insights into the early steps of COVID-19-catalyzed remote work. Diaries have been generally understood as "windows" on sense-making processes when studying life ruptures. In this article, we draw on Michel Foucault's conceptualization of self-writing as a "technology of the self" and on sociocultural psychology to propose that diaries are not "windows" but technologies that aid in the sense-making. Concretely, we analyzed three non-exhaustive and non-exclusive uses of diary writing in times of vulnerability: (1) imagination of the future and preparation to encounter difficulties; (2) distancing from one's own experience; and (3) creating personal commitments. Our longitudinal data comprised three public online diaries written over more than twenty years, belonging to three anonymous individuals selected from a database of more than 400 diaries. We analyzed these three diaries by iterating between qualitative and quantitative analysis. We conclude that: (1) beyond their expressive dimension, diaries are technologies that support the sense-making process, but not without difficulties; (2) diaries form a self-generated space for dialogue with oneself in which the diarist also becomes aware of the social nature of her life story; (3) diaries are not only technologies for the Socratic "know thyself" but also technologies to work on oneself, especially in terms of the personal perspective on the past or the future; and (4) the practice of diary writing goes beyond sense-making towards personal development and the desire to transform one's life trajectory. Severe dissociative states involving the experience of being in parts, typically associated with diagnosis such as dissociative identity disorder and other specified dissociative disorders, continue to be a controversial and rarely studied area of research. However, because persons with severe dissociative states are at risk of being harmed instead of helped within psychiatric care, their experiences of living with such states warrant further examination, while innovative ways to include them in research remain necessary. Against that background, this study aimed to illuminate the meanings of living with severe dissociative states involving the experience of being in parts. This is a phenomenological hermeneutic study with data collected from three social media sources, one personal blog and two Instagram accounts, in February and March 2023. The results were illuminated in light of four themes; Striving to remain in the world, Balancing exposure and trust, Balancing belonging and loneliness and Owning oneselves. The interpretation of the themes suggests that living with severe dissociative states means being a human under inhuman conditions, striving for coherence and meaning in a world that is often unsupportive. Zylstra et al. (2023) hypothesise that ecological controls contribute to a decline in the potential behaviour and severity of fires burning in tall open eucalypt forests unburnt for multi‐decadal periods (>52 years). They model potential flame height in forests dominated by Eucalyptus jacksonii in southwestern Australia and argue that self‐thinning of understorey shrubs leads to a decline in suspended litter (woody necromass), which in turn leads to reduced flame heights in older fuels.Forest floor and suspended litter were not sampled as part of their field survey, and instead they describe the dynamics of these fuel components by fitting equations to data reported from previous studies. The form of equation they use to describe the accumulation of suspended litter does not account for the contributions of woody necromass other than from understorey shrubs. In particular, twig fall from the forest overstorey is likely to make an important contribution to suspended litter and is much slower to decompose than leaves and necromass from understorey shrubs.Their assumption of a decline in suspended litter is inconsistent with published research on fuel dynamics in tall open forests in southwestern Australia, which demonstrates that dead fine fuel loadings do not decline when the forest remains unburnt.In the absence of field data to support their assumption of decline in suspended litter, the broader conclusions of Zylstra et al. (2023) regarding changes in potential behaviour and severity of fires in E. jacksonii dominant forest unburnt for >52 years remain open to question. Abstract\nSCIENCE AND PRACTICE NOTESAnxiety is a pervasive phenomenon in contemporary society. With increased internet use in recent years, more people in the general population are seeking and providing help and participating in community online. The goal of our study was to evaluate the content of internet narratives among those who post about anxiety and determine what stakeholder groups are saying online. We used the bifurcated method; it is a multi-method (qualitative) approach with inductive, thematic analyses, and with quantification of content-related words via a computer program that crawls websites and counts the occurrences of specified terms (for cross-checking purposes). Themes of posts and webpages about anxiety were: using/reporting treatment strategies (83.3% saturation), providing help (77.8% saturation), telling personal stories (72.2% saturation), seeking help (61.1% saturation), and illustrating interpersonal impact (50% saturation). We argue that anxiety stakeholders may take part in health co-inquiry online (i.e., cooperating with others) in many of the same ways that they might collaborate in person. This paper advances our understanding of foodwork as the organization of women's work and racialized, gendered, and classed inequalities in the provisioning, preparation, and consumption of food. Drawing on notions of the in/visibility of women's work, I conceptualize foodwork as the articulation of visible and invisible women's work in the social organization of everyday food practices. The analysis of three blogs, written by women with, or mothers of children with, food allergies, provides a glimpse into the everyday living with food allergy. The investigation of the actual practices of allergy foodwork shows that they are interactive and intersectional patterns of work and make everyday life possible. Although laboratory studies have examined the development of children's prospective memory (PM) and the factors that influence its performance, much less is known about children's PM performance and development in their everyday life. The current study used an online parent diary report approach to examine American 2- to 6-year-olds' PM successes and failures. In an initial session, 206 parents completed a series of questionnaires on their child's memory and cognition. For the next four days, parents reported instances of PM successes and failures and answered questions about a number of task factors (task motivation, importance to the parent and child, who assigned the PM task, task typicality, and parental assistance). We found that: (1) parents reported children as young as 2 years old had PM successes in daily life and there were no age differences in the number of reported PM successes and failures, (2) parents reported more PM successes than failures, and (3) several factors influenced the likelihood of children's success in everyday PM tasks, including child motivation and task importance to parents, whereas task typicality and parental assistance were related to PM failure. Finally, we explored the domains of PM successes and failures as well as the type of assistance that parents provided. These results are discussed in relation to past findings of children's PM in laboratory and naturalistic settings. Many adolescents experience severe pain during menstruation, yet their attempts to receive medical attention to alleviate or manage this pain are often met with dismissal or disbelief. In light of these barriers to care, many adolescents turn to social media to share their experiences with menstruation and pain, as well as hear from other members of their community. In this study, we investigated how adolescents present their experiences with menstruation in vlogs (or "video blogs"). Using critical qualitative methods and a four-column analysis structure, we transcribed and thematically analyzed the audio and video content of 17 YouTube vlogs wherein adolescents described their experiences with menstrual pain. We found that stylistically, the vloggers modulated between a polished documentary style and an intimate storytime style of video production. We additionally found that vloggers spoke about their menstrual pain experiences from three perspectives: as a Patient managing and diagnosing physical symptoms, as a Self considering how the pain affects their life and ambitions, and as a Teacher educating their audience. Considering both the visual and audio data, we discuss how healthcare providers can use these findings to inform their approach to discussing menstrual pain with adolescents. The article "Men Who Hate Women. Incels, Seduction Artists, and Other Misogynistic Online Subcultures" by Laura Bates, published in the magazine EMPIRIA, examines the presence of online male communities that express hatred towards women. These communities expand through blogs, forums, chats, and social networks, and are closely related to online white supremacist communities. The article also mentions incels, a group that advocates for an initiation ritual called "taking the red pill" and has an obsession with sex. Additionally, it mentions seduction artists, a successful industry worth over a hundred million dollars. The article analyzes different online communities related to masculinity and men's rights, such as incels, men's rights activists (MRA), and men going their own way (MGTOW). These communities share the belief that men are disadvantaged in today's society. In 2022, Greece became the fifth country in the world to legally ban Intersex Genital Mutilation (IGM). The bill was prepared by the Ministry of Health and the intersex-led organisation "Intersex Greece". Even though the organisation was only established in 2021, it was actively engaged in the whole law-making process, which resulted in a legal text that became a best practice worldwide. This article tracks the history of the intersex movement in Greece and shows that the movement emerged around 2009. Then, based on online interviews, blogs, videos and articles, all strategies and alliances used by the movement over the years to advocate for intersex rights are explored, especially in the year 2017 when the law on Legal Gender Recognition (LGR) was passed and in 2022 when IGM was banned. Furthermore, online public documents from the Greek Parliament are consulted to provide a comprehensive analysis of how the social, cultural, economic, and political environment in the country affected these legal developments. Based on the above evidence, this article shows that the law-making process on IGM in Greece started 13 years before the law and was the outcome of a long process of multiple and unique intersecting factors. As part of a multi-faceted research project examining user engagement with various types of descriptive metadata to improve metadata services, Utah State University Libraries Cataloging and Metadata Services unit investigated user search behavior in library catalog (MARC) records, Encoded Archival Description (EAD) finding aids, and most recently in digital collection metadata. The authors used web log analysis to determine how users interacted with CONTENTdm, categories of search terms used, and where search terms were found in a record. Key findings included that navigation through CONTENTdm using clickable queries (links) is a prominent user search pattern, dates are an important faceting tool and date ranges as a clickable link are heavily used, users demonstrated a more engaged research pattern when searching with geographic terms, and subject and transcription metadata fields match user search terms at a significant rate and are likely to be high drivers of search results. In this paper, we explore how existential aspects of being diagnosed and living with cancer are shared in stories that are publicly communicated online. Through a narrative analysis of online texts and blogs, we explore how people deal with their cancer experiences, how cultural norms about illness are expressed in their stories and why they write and publish their stories online. We found that the writers described cancer diagnosis as a defining moment in their lives. They portrayed it as a crisis that was followed by unpredictability, doubt, grief and loss, fitting with the term 'existential uncertainty'. Writing and sharing their stories online, connecting with others and staying positive were ways of dealing with this uncertainty. These naturally occurring data offer insights into phenomena that are not easily accessed in a clinical setting; moreover, they provide unique insights into the cultural norms in which online illness narratives are embedded. While the phenomenon of nostalgic heritage travel has gained traction, scarce inquiries have researched how nostalgia for heritage sites can render a means for heritage preservation. This inquiry utilized a multi-method qualitative design, with Study 1 inferring nostalgic heritage travel motivations from travel experiences documented in online travel diaries. Study 2 adopted the psychological ownership theory with data originating from semi-structured interviews to construct a nostalgia-induced framework of reciprocity between psychological ownership and heritage preservation. Findings first unveil an array of nostalgic heritage travel motives ranging from nostalgic reminiscing and glorification to nostalgia-induced playfulness and healing. Further, findings point to a reciprocal pattern of psychological ownership–heritage preservation fostered by three routes: exercise of control, intimate knowing, and investment of the self. Together, this research illuminates a past–present–future synthesis of self–place relations.
