The post-Yugoslav context has experienced major instances of intolerance, suggesting that the success of initiatives dedicated to interreligious dialogue and lasting peaceful coexistence has been limited. While being aware of what is expected of them, political elites and religious leaders have approached each other as an asset useful to legitimize their rule, which has directly restrained prospects for a prejudice-free dialogue in the fragile societies. This article sees interreligious dialogue and tolerance as an imperative prerequisite for multiconfessional reconciliation in the area of the former Yugoslavia, so that religion is not used as a means for social and political agendas. Accordingly, religious dialogue and debates concerning tolerance should be treated as a sort of incomplete conversation, which should also welcome contributions from a wide range of civic actors in charge of monitoring pursued processes. This paper aims to analyse the possible influence of politics on the ethnic, linguistic, and religious distinctiveness of Montenegrins in relation to Serbs. The influence of politics on the ethnic distinctiveness of Montenegrins has especially been active since the beginning of the 21st century; hence this period represents the main time frame of the analysis. Since the difference between Montenegrins and Serbs is very blurred in terms of ethnic, linguistic, and religious distinctiveness, one of the hypotheses we argue in this paper is about politics, which appears as the main factor that dictates the differences between these two peoples in Montenegro. Consequently, the next hypothesis we argue about is the increased political differences between Serbia and Montenegro, the widened gap between ethnic Montenegrins and Serbs, the increased number of Serbs, and the reduced number of Montenegrins. On the other hand, while harmonious relations between Serbia and Montenegro prevailed and the difference between ethnic Serbs and Montenegrins was not politically encouraged, the number of Montenegrins increased, and the number of Serbs in Montenegro decreased. In the first part of the paper, we compendiously paid attention to the essential difference between men and women, and then we made a short theoretical framework on the theories and processes of secularization. With the help of certain empirical indicators, we comparatively paid attention to the assessment of religiosity on the basis of gender1 during real socialism and in the first decade of the 21st century. We noted the growth and neutralization of religiosity on the basis of gender structure. The second part of the article presents an analysis of research from 2010 based on gender differences and on example of the young in Montenegro. On the basis of a descriptive analysis, the research confirmed that the difference between men and women in religiosity has disappeared. In this paper we intend to look back at three most common religions in Montenegro (the Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church and the Islamic Religious Community) from the point of tolerance, emphasizing the influence of religion on the development of tolerance since 1991. Therefore, after the revitalization of religion and the collapse of socialism in these regions in the early nineties, there comes to frantic suffering of the tolerance by returning the religion on the social scene and the freedom of religion -- guaranteed by the Edict of Milan so that everyone can be a follower of any religion they want. Therefore, the true freedom of religion has been returned but the inter-religious tolerance has been abolished. In the second part of the paper, the role, importance and meaning of the religion after the restoration of independence in 2006 are emphasized. Also, it is noticeable that the registration of the Montenegrin Orthodox Church in 2000 greatly influences the spirit of tolerance among the Orthodox population in Montenegro. The process of converting individuals to a particular religious community is one of the issues addressed by the Sociology of Religion. In the post-socialist Montenegrin society, there have been research works related to dominant religious communities, the Orthodox, the Roman Catholic, and the Islamic, while science has shown no interest in small religious groups. The Adventist movement in Montenegro, although present for a long period of time, has failed to mobilise individuals for conversion to a greater extent. Therefore, this research aims to find out when, under what conditions and in what way the individuals in Montenegro, as a post-socialist state, chose Adventism as religious affiliation, what affected this process the most, and were there any specificities in that regard. This paper is a result of a survey conducted via an in-depth interview with 17 believers of the Adventist Church. The obtained results indicate several valuable data: most respondents accepted the Adventist movement in Montenegro in the early 1990s; they got first-hand knowledge of this religion from their friends or wider family members and relatives, a consistent interpretation of the Holy Bible is the main reason for conversion. A significant factor in the process of conversion to Adventism is early religious socialisation within a family. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
