Context. IRAS 16293E is a rare case of a prestellar core being subjected to the effects of at least one outflow. Aims. We want to disentangle the actual structure of the core from the outflow impact and evaluate the evolutionary stage of the core. Methods. Prestellar cores being cold and depleted, the best tracers of their central regions are the two isotopologues of the trihydrogen cation that are observable from the ground: ortho-H2D+ and para-D2H+. We used the Atacama Pathfinder EXperiment (APEX) telescope to map the para-D2H+ emission in IRAS 16293E and collected James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) archival data of ortho-H2D+. We compared their emission to that of other tracers, including dust emission, and analysed their abundance with the help of a 1D radiative transfer tool. The ratio of the abundances of ortho-H2D+ to para-D2H+ can be used to estimate the stage of the chemical evolution of the core. Results. We have obtained the first complete map of para-D2H+ emission in a prestellar core. We compare it to a map of ortho-H2D+ and show their partial anti-correlation. This reveals a strongly evolved core with a para-D2H+/ortho-H2D+ abundance ratio towards the centre for which we obtain a conservative lower limit from 3.9 (at 12 K) to 8.3 (at 8 K), while the high extinction of the core is indicative of a central temperature below 10 K. This ratio is higher than predicted by the known chemical models found in the literature. Para-D2H+ (and indirectly ortho-H2D+) is the only species that reveals the true centre of this core, while the emission of other molecular tracers and dust are biased by the temperature structure that results from the impact of the outflow. Conclusions. This study is an invitation to reconsider the analysis of previous observations of this source and possibly questions the validity of the deuteration chemical models or of the reaction and inelastic collisional rate coefficients of the H+3 H 3 + isotopologue family. Context. Thioformamide NH2CHS is a sulfur-bearing analog of formamide NH2CHO. The latter was detected in the interstellar medium back in the 1970s. Most of the sulfur-containing molecules detected in the interstellar medium are analogs of corresponding oxygen-containing compounds. Therefore, thioformamide is an interesting candidate for a search in the interstellar medium. Aims. A previous study of the rotational spectrum of thioformamide was limited to frequencies below 70 GHz and to transitions with J ≤ 3. The aim of this study is to provide accurate spectroscopic parameters and rotational transition frequencies for thioformamide to enable astronomical searches for this molecule using radio telescope arrays at millimeter wavelengths. Methods. The rotational spectrum of thioformamide was measured and analyzed in the frequency range 150−660 GHz using the Lille spectrometer. We searched for thioformamide toward the high-mass star-forming region Sagittarius (Sgr) B2(N) using the ReMoCA spectral line survey carried out with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array. Results. Accurate rigid rotor and centrifugal distortion constants were obtained from the analysis of the ground state of parent, 34S, 13C, and 15N singly substituted isotopic species of thioformamide. In addition, for the parent isotopolog, the lowest two excited vibrational states, v12 = 1 and v9 = 1, were analyzed using a model that takes Coriolis coupling into account. Thioformamide was not detected toward the hot cores Sgr B2(N1S) and Sgr B2(N2). The sensitive upper limits indicate that thioformamide is nearly three orders of magnitude at least less abundant than formamide. This is markedly different from methanethiol, which is only about two orders of magnitude less abundant than methanol in both sources. Conclusions. The different behavior shown by methanethiol versus thioformamide may be caused by the preferential formation of the latter (on grains) at late times and low temperatures, when CS abundances are depressed. Star-forming regions show a rich and varied chemistry, including the presence of complex organic molecules—in both the cold gas distributed on large scales and the hot regions close to young stars where protoplanetary disks arise. Recent advances in observational techniques have opened new possibilities for studying this chemistry. In particular, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array has made it possible to study astrochemistry down to Solar System–size scales while also revealing molecules of increasing variety and complexity. In this review, we discuss recent observations of the chemistry of star-forming environments, with a particular focus on complex organic molecules, taking context from the laboratory experiments and chemical models that they have stimulated. The key takeaway points include the following: The physical evolution of individual sources plays a crucial role in their inferred chemical signatures and remains an important area for observations and models to elucidate. Comparisons of the abundances measured toward different star-forming environments (high-mass versus low-mass, Galactic Center versus Galactic disk) reveal a remarkable similarity, which is an indication that the underlying chemistry is relatively independent of variations in their physical conditions. Studies of molecular isotopologues in star-forming regions provide a link with measurements in our own Solar System, and thus may shed light on the chemical similarities and differences expected in other planetary systems. Aminoacetonitrile (NH 2 CH 2 CN) was detected in the interstellar medium (ISM) one decade ago in the course of a spectral survey of the hot molecular core Sagittarius (Sgr) B2(N) with the IRAM 30 m telescope. With the advent of sensitive telescopes such as the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), the degree of chemical complexity in the ISM can be further explored. In the family of aminoacetonitrile, the next stage in complexity with one additional CH 2 group is aminopropionitrile. This molecule has two structural isomers, a chain-like (3-aminopropionitrile, NH 2 CH 2 CH 2 CN) and a branched, chiral one (2-aminopropionitrile, CH 3 CH(NH 2 ) CN). The latter was studied in the laboratory a few years ago and was not detected in the IRAM 30 m survey. We present the search for both isomers in the EMoCA (Exploring Molecular Complexity with ALMA) survey, a sensitive spectral survey of Sgr B2(N) performed with ALMA. The rotational spectrum of 3-aminopropionitrile has been recorded in laboratory with a submillimeter spectrometer using solid-state sources. Helped by ab initio calculations performed for the different possible conformations, we present here the analysis based on a Watson Hamiltonian for an asymmetric one-top rotor in A-reduction performed in the frequency range 150–500 GHz for two conformers. More than 6200 lines of the ground-state and lowest excited vibrational states, corresponding to more than 8200 transitions, were assigned in the experimental spectrum. Partition functions, including the vibrational contribution of these states, and predictions in the JPL-CDMS catalog format were determined in order to search for both conformers of 3-aminopropionitrile in Sgr B2(N). Neither 3-aminopropionitrile, nor 2-aminopropionitrile are detected. The derived upper limits imply that they are at least 12 and 5 times less abundant than aminoacetonitrile, respectively. A comparison to ethyl cyanide and n-propyl cyanide detected in this source suggests that an improvement by a factor three in sensitivity may be sufficient to detect 3-aminopropionitrile, which should be within the range of our on-going follow-up project with ALMA. Context. Up to now, mostly relatively simple molecules have been detected in interstellar diffuse molecular clouds in our galaxy, but more complex species have been reported in the diffuse/translucent medium of a z = 0.89 spiral galaxy. Aims. We aim at searching for complex organic molecules (COMs) in diffuse molecular clouds along the line of sight to Sgr B2(N), taking advantage of the high sensitivity and angular resolution of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). Methods. We use data acquired as part of the EMoCA survey performed with ALMA. To analyse the absorption features of the molecules detected towards the ultracompact H ii region K4 in Sgr B2(N), we calculate synthetic spectra for these molecules and fit their column densities, line widths, centroid velocities, and excitation temperatures. Results. We report the detection of CH3OH, CH3CN, CH3CHO, HC3N, and NH2CHO in Galactic center (GC) diffuse clouds and CH3OH and CH3CN in a diffuse cloud in the Scutum arm. The chemical composition of one of the diffuse GC clouds is found to be similar to the one of the diffuse/translucent medium of the z = 0.89 spiral galaxy. Conclusions. The chemical processes leading to chemical complexity in the diffuse molecular ISM appear to have remained similar since z = 0.89. As proposed in previous studies, the presence of COMs in diffuse molecular clouds may result from a cyclical interstellar process of cloud contraction and expansion between diffuse and dense states. Context. The Sagittarius B2 molecular cloud contains several sites forming high-mass stars. Sgr B2(N) is one of its main centers of activity. It hosts several compact and ultra-compact HII regions, as well as two known hot molecular cores (Sgr B2(N1) and Sgr B2(N2)) in the early stage of the high-mass star formation process, where complex organic molecules (COMs) are detected in the gas phase. Aims. Our goal is to use the high sensitivity of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) to characterize the hot core population in Sgr B2(N) and thereby shed new light on the star formation process in this star-forming region. Methods. We use a complete 3 mm spectral line survey conducted with ALMA to search for faint hot cores in the Sgr B2(N) region. The chemical composition of the detected sources and the column densities are derived by modeling the whole spectra under the assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium. Population diagrams are constructed to fit rotational temperatures. Integrated intensity maps are produced to derive the peak position and fit the size of each molecule’s emission distribution. The kinematic structure of the hot cores is investigated by analyzing the line wing emission of typical outflow tracers. The H2 column densities are computed from ALMA and SMA continuum emission maps. Results. We report the discovery of three new hot cores in Sgr B2(N) that we call Sgr B2(N3), Sgr B2(N4), and Sgr B2(N5). The three sources are associated with class II methanol masers, well known tracers of high-mass star formation, and Sgr B2(N5), also with a UCHII region. Their H2 column densities are found to be between approximately 16 and 36 times lower than the one of the main hot core Sgr B2(N1). The spectra of these new hot cores have spectral line densities of 11 up to 31 emission lines per GHz above the 7σ level, assigned to 22–25 molecules plus 13–20 less abundant isotopologs. We derive rotational temperatures of approximately 140–180 K for the three new hot cores and mean source sizes of 0.4″ for Sgr B2(N3) and 1.0″ for Sgr B2(N4) and Sgr B2(N5). The chemical composition of Sgr B2(N3), Sgr B2(N4), and Sgr B2(N5) is very similar, but it differs from that of Sgr B2(N2). Finally, Sgr B2(N3) and Sgr B2(N5) show high-velocity wing emission in typical outflow tracers, with a bipolar morphology in their integrated intensity maps suggesting the presence of an outflow, like in Sgr B2(N1). No sign of an outflow is found around Sgr B2(N2) and Sgr B2(N4). We derive statistical lifetimes of 4 × 104 yr for the class II methanol maser phase and 6 × 104 yr for the hot core phase in Sgr B2(N). Conclusions. The associations of the hot cores with class II methanol masers, outflows, and/or UCHII regions tentatively suggest the following age sequence: Sgr B2(N4), Sgr B2(N3), SgrB2(N5), Sgr B2(N1). Context: Using millimeter wavelength data from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), the EMoCA spectral line survey recently revealed the presence of both the straight-chain (normal) and branched (iso) forms of propyl cyanide (C3H7CN) toward the Galactic Center star-forming source Sgr B2(N2). This was the first interstellar detection of a branched aliphatic molecule. Aims: Through computational methods, we seek to explain the observed i:n ratio for propyl cyanide, and to predict the abundances of the four different forms of the homologous nitrile, butyl cyanide (C4H9CN). We also investigate whether other molecules will show a similar degree of branching, by modeling the chemistry of alkanes up to pentane (C5H12). Methods: We use the coupled three-phase chemical kinetics model, MAGICKAL, to simulate the chemistry of the hot-core source Sgr B2(N2), using an updated chemical network that includes grain-surface/ice-mantle formation routes for branched nitriles and alkanes. The network explicitly considers radical species with an unpaired electron on either the primary or secondary carbon in a chain. We also include mechanisms for the addition of the cyanide radical, CN, to hydrocarbons with multiple bonds between carbon atoms, using activation energy barriers from the literature. We use the EMoCA survey data to search for the straight-chain form of butyl cyanide toward Sgr B2(N2). Results: The observed i:n ratio for propyl cyanide is reproduced by the models, with intermediate to fast warm-up timescales providing the most accurate result. Butyl cyanide is predicted to show similar abundances to propyl cyanide, and to exhibit strong branching, with the sec form clearly dominant over all others. Normal and iso-butyl cyanide are expected to have similar abundances to each other, while the tert form is significantly less abundant. The addition of CN to acetylene and ethene is found to be important to the production of vinyl, ethyl, propyl, and butyl cyanide. The alkanes also show significant branching. We report a non-detection of n-C4H9CN toward Sgr B2(N2), with an abundance at least 1.7 times lower than that of n-C3H7CN. This value is within the range predicted by the chemical models. Conclusions: The models indicate that the degree of branching rises with increasing molecular size. The efficiency of CN addition to unsaturated hydrocarbons boosts the abundances of nitriles in the model, and enhances the ratio of straight-to-branched molecule production. Other types of molecule may be less abundant, but show an even greater degree of branching. The predicted abundance of, in particular, s-C4H9CN, which at its peak is comparable to that of propyl cyanide, makes it a good candidate for future detection toward Sgr B2(N2). Context: N-methylformamide, CH3NHCHO, may be an important molecule for interstellar pre-biotic chemistry because it contains a peptide bond, which in terrestrial chemistry is responsible for linking amino acids in proteins. The rotational spectrum of the most stable trans conformer of N-methylformamide is complicated by strong torsion-rotation interaction due to the low barrier of the methyl torsion. For this reason, the theoretical description of the rotational spectrum of the trans conformer has, up to now, not been accurate enough to provide a firm basis for its interstellar detection. Aims: In this context, as a prerequisite for a successful interstellar detection, our goal is to improve the characterization of the rotational spectrum of N-methylformamide. Methods: We use two absorption spectrometers in Kharkiv and Lille to measure the rotational spectra over the frequency range 45-630 GHz. The analysis is carried out using the Rho-axis method and the RAM36 code. We search for N-methylformamide toward the hot molecular core Sagittarius (Sgr) B2(N2) using a spectral line survey carried out with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). The astronomical spectra are analyzed under the assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium. The astronomical results are put into a broader astrochemical context with the help of a gas-grain chemical kinetics model. Results: The new laboratory data set for the trans conformer of N-methylformamide consists of 9469 distinct line frequencies with J ≤ 62, including the first assignment of the rotational spectra of the first and second excited torsional states. All these lines are fitted within experimental accuracy for the first time. Based on the reliable frequency predictions obtained in this study, we report the tentative detection of N-methylformamide toward Sgr B2(N2). We find N-methylformamide to be more than one order of magnitude less abundant than formamide (NH2CHO), a factor of two less abundant than the unsaturated molecule methyl isocyanate (CH3NCO), but only slightly less abundant than acetamide (CH3CONH2). We also report the tentative detection of the 15N isotopolog of formamide (15NH2CHO) toward Sgr B2(N2). The chemical models indicate that the efficient formation of HNCO via NH + CO on grains is a necessary step in the achievement of the observed gas-phase abundance of CH3NCO. Production of CH3NHCHO may plausibly occur on grains either through the direct addition of functional-group radicals or through the hydrogenation of CH3NCO. Conclusions: Provided the detection of N-methylformamide is confirmed, the only slight underabundance of this molecule compared to its more stable structural isomer acetamide and the sensitivity of the model abundances to the chemical kinetics parameters suggest that the formation of these two molecules is controlled by kinetics rather than thermal equilibrium. Context. We have performed a spectral line survey called Exploring Molecular Complexity with ALMA (EMoCA) toward Sagittarius B2(N) between 84.1 and 114.4 GHz with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in its Cycles 0 and 1. Line intensities of the main isotopic species of ethyl cyanide and its singly 13C-substituted isotopomers observed toward the hot molecular core Sagittarius B2(N2) suggest that the doubly 13C-substituted isotopomers should also be detectable. Aims. We want to determine the spectroscopic parameters of all three doubly 13C-substituted isotopologues of ethyl cyanide to search for them in our ALMA data. Methods. We investigated the laboratory rotational spectra of the three species between 150 GHz and 990 GHz. We searched for emission lines produced by these species in the ALMA spectrum of Sagittarius B2(N2). We modeled their emission and the emission of the 12C and singly 13C-substituted isotopologues assuming local thermodynamic equilibrium. Results. We identified more than 5000 rotational transitions, pertaining to more than 3500 different transition frequencies, in the laboratory for each of the three doubly 13C-substituted isotopomers. The quantum numbers reach J ≈ 115 and Ka ≈ 35, resulting in accurate spectroscopic parameters and accurate rest frequency calculations beyond 1000 GHz for strong to moderately weak transitions of either isotopomer. All three species are unambiguously detected in our ALMA data. The 12C/ 13C column density ratio of the isotopomers with one 13C atom to those with two 13C atoms is about 25. Conclusions. Ethyl cyanide is the second molecule after methyl cyanide for which isotopologues containing two 13C atoms have been securely detected in the interstellar medium. The model of our ethyl cyanide data suggests that we should be able to detect vibrational satellites of the main species up to at least v19 = 1 at ~1130 K and up to 313 + 321 = 2 at ~600 K for the isotopologues with one 13C atom in our present ALMA data. Apart from the case of methanol, little is known about deuterium fractionation of complex organic molecules in the interstellar medium, especially in high mass star forming regions. We take advantage of the EMoCA spectral line survey to search for deuterated complex organic molecules toward the hot molecular core Sgr B2(N2). We report the secure detection of CH2DCN with a deuteration level of 0.4% and tentative detections of CH2DOH, CH2DCH2CN, CH3CHDCN, and DC3N with levels in the range 0.05-0.12%. Except for methyl cyanide, the measured deuteration levels lie at least a factor of four below the predictions of current astrochemical models. They are also lower than in Orion KL by a factor of a few up to a factor ten. These discrepancies and differences may be due to the higher temperatures that prevail in the Galactic Center region compared to nearby clouds, or they may result from a lower overall abundance of deuterium itself in the Galactic Center region by up to a factor ten. Context. The Chamaeleon dark molecular clouds are excellent nearby targets for low-mass star formation studies. Even though they belong to the same cloud complex, Cha I and II are actively forming stars while Cha III shows no sign of ongoing star formation. Aims. We aim to determine the driving factors that have led to the very different levels of star formation activity in Cha I and III and examine the dynamical state and possible evolution of the starless cores within them. Methods. Observations were performed in various molecular transitions with the APEX and Mopra telescopes. We examine the kinematics of the starless cores in the clouds through a virial analysis, a search for contraction motions, and velocity gradients. The chemical differences in the two clouds are explored through their fractional molecular abundances, derived from a non-LTE analysis, and comparison to predictions of chemical models. Results. Five cores are gravitationally bound in Cha I and one in Cha III. The so-called infall signature indicating contraction motions is seen toward 8-17 cores in Cha I and 2-5 cores in Cha III, which leads to a range of 13-28% of the cores in Cha I and 10-25% of the cores in Cha III that are contracting and may become prestellar. There is no significant difference in the turbulence level in the two clouds. Future dynamical interactions between the cores will not be dynamically significant in either Cha I or III, but the subregion Cha I North may experience collisions between cores within ~0.7Myr. Turbulence dissipation in the cores of both clouds is seen in the high-density tracers N2H+ 1-0 and HC3N 10-9 which have lower non-thermal velocity dispersions compared to C17O 2-1, C18O 2-1, and C34S 2-1. Evidence of depletion in the Cha I core interiors is seen in the abundance distributions of the latter three molecules. The median fractional abundance of C18O is lower in Cha III than Cha I by a factor of ~2. The median abundances of most molecules (except methanol) in the Cha III cores lie at the lower end of the values found in the Cha I cores. A difference in chemistry is thus seen. Chemical models suitable for the Cha I and III cores are used to constrain the effectiveness of the HC3N to N2H+ abundance ratio as an evolutionary indicator. Both contraction and static chemical models indicate that this ratio is a good evolutionary indicator in the prestellar phase for both gravitationally bound and unbound cores. In the framework of these models, we find that the cores in Cha III and the southern part of Cha I are in a similar evolutionary stage and are less chemically evolved than the central region of Cha I. Conclusions. The measured HC3N/N2H+ abundance ratio and the evidence for contraction motions seen towards the Cha III starless cores suggest that Cha III is younger than Cha I Centre and that some of its cores may form stars in the future if contraction does not cease. The largest noncyclic molecules detected in the interstellar medium (ISM) are organic with a straight-chain carbon backbone. We report an interstellar detection of a branched alkyl molecule, iso-propyl cyanide (i-C3H7CN), with an abundance 0.4 times that of its straight-chain structural isomer. This detection suggests that branched carbon-chain molecules may be generally abundant in the ISM. Our astrochemical model indicates that both isomers are produced within or upon dust grain ice mantles through the addition of molecular radicals, albeit via differing reaction pathways. The production of iso-propyl cyanide appears to require the addition of a functional group to a nonterminal carbon in the chain. Its detection therefore bodes well for the presence in the ISM of amino acids, for which such side-chain structure is a key characteristic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Combining targeting to therapy remains a major challenge in cancer treatment. To address this subject, the surface of lipid nanocapsules (LNC) was modified by grafting cRGD peptides, which are known to be recognised by αvβ3 integrins expressed by tumour endothelium and cancer cells. Applicability of this LNC-cRGD in tumour targeting was first assessed in vitro by the use of U87MG glioma cells. Biodistribution and tumour accumulation of radiolabelled LNC-cRGD in vivo were then evaluated in mice bearing the same subcutaneous xenograft. Flow cytometry and confocal microscopy results revealed that the cRGD grafting improved binding and internalisation compared to negative control LNC-cRAD and blank LNC. The peptide-grafted LNC remained in the blood circulation up to 3h with reduced capture by the RES organs. Tumour accumulation of LNC-cRGD with respect to LNC-cRAD was significantly higher at 1–3h. These results show that cRGD grafted to LNC has created a promising tumour-targetable nanocarrier that could be used in cancer treatment. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Aims. We investigate the origin of complex organic molecules (COMs) in the gas phase around the low-mass Class 0 protostar NGC 1333-IRAS2A, to determine if the COM emission lines trace an embedded disk, shocks from the protostellar jet, or the warm inner parts of the protostellar envelope. Methods. In the framework of the CALYPSO IRAM Plateau de Bure survey, we obtained large bandwidth spectra at sub-arcsecond resolution towards NGC 1333-IRAS2A. We identify the emission lines towards the central protostar and perform Gaussian fits to constrain the size of the emitting region for each of these lines, tracing various physical conditions and scales. Results. The emission of numerous COMs such as methanol, ethylene glycol, and methyl formate is spatially resolved by our observations. This allows us to measure, for the first time, the size of the COM emission inside the protostellar envelope, finding that it originates from a region of radius 40-100 AU, centered on the NGC 1333-IRAS2A protostellar object. Our analysis shows no preferential elongation of the COM emission along the jet axis, and therefore does not support the hypothesis that COM emission arises from shocked envelope material at the base of the jet. Down to similar sizes, the dust continuum emission is well reproduced with a single power-law envelope model, and therefore does not favor the hypothesis that COM emission arises from the thermal sublimation of grains embedded in a circumstellar disk. Finally, the typical scale ~60 AU observed for COM emission is consistent with the size of the inner envelope where Tdust > 100 K is expected. Our data therefore strongly suggest that the COM emission traces the hot corino in IRAS2A, i.e., the warm inner envelope material where the icy mantles of dust grains evaporate because they are passively heated by the central protostellar object [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The structure and kinematics of Class 0 protostars on scales of a few hundred AU is poorly known. Recent observations have revealed the presence of Keplerian disks with a diameter of 150-180 AU in L1527-IRS and VLA1623A, but it is not clear if such disks are common in Class 0 protostars. Here we present high-angular-resolution observations of two methanol lines in NGC1333-IRAS2A. We argue that these lines probe the inner envelope, and we use them to study the kinematics of this region. Our observations suggest the presence of a marginal velocity gradient normal to the direction of the outflow. However, the position velocity diagrams along the gradient direction appear inconsistent with a Keplerian disk. Instead, we suggest that the emission originates from the infalling and perhaps slowly rotating envelope, around a central protostar of 0.1-0.2 M☉. Context. The discovery of amino acids in meteorites fallen to Earth and the detection of glycine, the simplest of them, in samples returned from a comet to Earth strongly suggest that the chemistry of the interstellar medium is capable of producing such complex organic molecules and that they may be widespread in our Galaxy. Aims. Our goal is to investigate the degree of chemical complexity that can be reached in the interstellar medium, in particular in dense star-forming regions. Methods. We performed an unbiased, spectral line survey toward Sgr B2(N) and (M), two regions where high-mass stars are formed, with the IRAM 30 m telescope in the 3 mm atmospheric transmission window. Partial surveys at 2 and 1.3 mm were performed in parallel. The spectra were analyzed with a simple radiative transfer model that assumes local thermodynamic equilibrium but takes optical depth effects into account. Results. About 3675 and 945 spectral lines with a peak signal-to-noise ratio higher than 4 are detected at 3 mm toward Sgr B2(N) and (M), i.e. about 102 and 26 lines per GHz, respectively. This represents an increase by about a factor of two over previous surveys of Sgr B2. About 70% and 47% of the lines detected toward Sgr B2(N) and (M) are identified and assigned to 56 and 46 distinct molecules as well as to 66 and 54 less abundant isotopologues of these molecules, respectively. In addition, we report the detection of transitions from 59 and 24 catalog entries corresponding to vibrationally or torsionally excited states of some of these molecules, respectively, up to a vibration energy of 1400 cm-1 (2000 K). Excitation temperatures and column densities were derived for each species but should be used with caution. The rotation temperatures of the detected complex molecules typically range from ~50 to 200 K. Among the detected molecules, aminoacetonitrile, n-propyl cyanide, and ethyl formate were reported for the first time in space based on this survey, as were five rare isotopologues of vinyl cyanide, cyanoacetylene, and hydrogen cyanide. We also report the detection of transitions from within twelve new vibrationally or torsionally excited states of known molecules. Absorption features produced by diffuse clouds along the line of sight are detected in transitions with low rotation quantum numbers of many simple molecules and are modeled with ~30-40 velocity components with typical linewidths of ~3-5 km s-1. Conclusions. Although the large number of unidentified lines may still allow future identification of new molecules, we expect most of these lines to belong to vibrationally or torsionally excited states or to rare isotopologues of known molecules for which spectroscopic predictions are currently missing. Significant progress in extending the inventory of complex organic molecules in Sgr B2(N) and deriving tighter constraints on their location, origin, and abundance is expected in the near future thanks to an ongoing spectral line survey at 3 mm with ALMA in its cycles 0 and 1. Context. First hydrostatic cores represent a theoretically predicted intermediate evolutionary link between the prestellar and protostellar phases. Studying the observational characteristics of first core candidates is therefore vital for probing and understanding the earliest phases of star formation. Aims. We aim to determine the dynamical state of the first hydrostatic core candidate Chamaeleon-MMS1 (Cha-MMS1). Methods. We observed Cha-MMS1 in various molecular transitions with the APEX and Mopra telescopes. Continuum data retrieved from the Spitzer Heritage Archive were used to estimate the internal luminosity of the source. The molecular emission was modelled with a radiative transfer code to derive constraints on the kinematics of the envelope, which were then compared to the predictions of magneto-hydrodynamic simulations. Results. We derive an internal luminosity of 0.08 L☉-0.18 L☉ for Cha-MMS1. An average velocity gradient of 3.1 ± 0.1 km s-1 pc-1 over ∼0.08 pc is found perpendicular to the filament in which Cha-MMS1 is embedded. The gradient is flatter in the outer parts and, surprisingly, also at the innermost ∼2000 AU to 4000 AU. The former features are consistent with solid-body rotation beyond 4000 AU and slower, differential rotation beyond 8000 AU, but the origin of the flatter gradient in the innermost parts is unclear. The classical infall signature is detected in HCO+ 3-2 and CS 2-1. The radiative transfer modelling indicates a uniform infall velocity in the outer parts of the envelope. In the inner parts (at most 9000 AU), an infall velocity field scaling with r-0.5 is consistent with the data, but the shape of the profile is less well constrained and the velocity could also decrease toward the centre. The infall velocities are subsonic to transonic, 0.1 km s-1-0.2 km s-1 at r ⩾ 3300 AU, and subsonic to supersonic, 0.04 km s-1-0.6 km s-1 at r ⩽ 3300 AU. Both the internal luminosity of Cha-MMS1 and the infall velocity field in its envelope are consistent with predictions of MHD simulations for the first core phase. There is no evidence of any fast, large-scale outflow stemming from Cha-MMS1, but excess emission from the high-density tracers CS 5-4, CO 6-5, and CO 7-6 suggests the presence of higher velocity material at the inner core. Conclusions. Its internal luminosity excludes Cha-MMS1 being a prestellar core. The kinematical properties of its envelope are consistent with Cha-MMS1 being a first hydrostatic core candidate or a very young Class 0 protostar. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Angular momentum plays a crucial role in the formation of stars and planets. It has long been noticed that parcels of gas in molecular clouds need to reduce their specific angular momentum by 6 to 7 orders of magnitude to participate in the building of a typical star like the Sun. Several physical processes on different scales and at different stages of evolution can contribute to this loss of angular momentum. In order to set constraints on these processes and better understand this transfer of angular momentum, a detailed observational census and characterization of rotation at all stages of evolution and over all scales of star forming regions is necessary. This review presents the main results obtained in low-mass star forming regions over the past four decades in this field of research. It addresses the search and characterization of rotation in molecular clouds, prestellar and protostellar cores, circumstellar disks, and jets. Perspectives offered by ALMA are briefly discussed. Context. Methylamine (CH3NH2) was first detected in the interstellar medium (ISM) toward Sgr B2 almost 50 years ago by observation of rotational transitions in its torsional ground state. Methylamine exhibits two large-amplitude motions (LAMs), the methyl torsion and amine wagging, which complicate the spectral analysis, especially in excited vibration states. The lack of an accurate model of the two coupled LAMs has also hampered the identification in the ISM of rotational transitions in excited vibrational states. Aims. The aim of this work is to study the terahertz and microwave rotational spectra of methylamine experimentally and theoretically in order to provide a reliable basis for the detection of its rotational transitions in the first torsionally excited state, υt = 1, in the ISM. Methods. The terahertz spectrum of methylamine was measured from 150 to 1520 GHz with the Lille fast scan spectrometer. Using a new "hybrid" Hamiltonian model, we were able to analyze the nuclear quadrupole hyperfine structure and to accurately fit the rotational spectrum of the υt = 1 state of methylamine. We used the imaging spectral line survey ReMoCA performed with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) to search for rotational transitions of methylamine in its first torsionally excited state toward the high-mass star forming region Sgr B2(N). The observed spectra are modeled under the assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE). Results. Accurate spectral predictions were obtained for the ground and first excited states of CH3NH2. We report the first interstellar detection of methylamine in the υt = 1 state toward the offset position Sgr B2(N1S) in the hot molecular core Sgr B2(N1). The LTE parameters derived previously from the rotational emission of methylamine in its torsional ground state toward Sgr B2(N1S) yield synthetic spectra of methylamine in the υt = 1 state that are fully consistent with the ALMA spectra and allow us to identify five rotational lines of this state. Methylamine has been the only simple alkylamine detected in the interstellar medium for a long time. With the recent secure and tentative detections of vinylamine and ethylamine, respectively, dimethylamine has become a promising target for searches in space. Its rotational spectrum, however, has been known only up to 45 GHz until now. Here we investigate the rotation-tunnelling spectrum of dimethylamine in selected regions between 76 and 1091 GHz using three different spectrometers in order to facilitate its detection in space. The quantum number range is extended to J  = 61 and  Ka  = 21, yielding an extensive set of accurate spectroscopic parameters. To search for dimethylamine, we refer to the spectral line survey ReMoCA carried out with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array towards the high-mass star-forming region Sagittarius B2(N) and a spectral line survey of the molecular cloud G+0.693–0.027 employing the IRAM 30 m and Yebes 40 m radio telescopes. We report non-detections of dimethylamine towards the hot molecular cores Sgr B2(N1S) and Sgr B2(N2b) as well as G+0.693−0.027 which imply that dimethylamine is at least 14, 4.5, and 39 times less abundant than methylamine towards these sources, respectively. The observational results are compared to computational results from a gas-grain astrochemical model. The modelled methylamine to dimethylamine ratios are compatible with the observational lower limits. However, the model produces too much ethylamine compared with methylamine which could mean that the already fairly low levels of dimethylamine in the models may also be too high. Abstract: The rotational spectra of singly substituted 13C and 15N isotopic species of vinyl cyanide have been studied in natural abundances between 64 and 351GHz. In combination with previous results, greatly improved spectroscopic parameters have been obtained which in turn helped to identify transitions of the 13C species for the first time in space through a molecular line survey of the extremely line-rich interstellar source Sagittarius B2(N) in the 3mm region with some additional observations at 2mm. The 13C species are detected in two compact (∼2.3″), hot (170K) cores with a column density of ∼ and , respectively. In the main source, the so-called “Large Molecule Heimat”, we derive an abundance of for each 13C species relative to H2. An isotopic ratio 12C/13C of 21 has been measured. Based on a comparison to the column densities measured for the 13C species of ethyl cyanide also detected in this survey, it is suggested that the two hot cores of Sgr B2(N) are in different evolutionary stages. Supplementary laboratory data for the main isotopic species recorded between 92 and 342GHz permitted an improvement of its spectroscopic parameters as well. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Highly-collimated outflows are believed to be the earliest stage in outflow evolution, so their study is essential for understanding the processes driving outflows. The BHR71 Bok globule is known to harbour such a highly-collimated outflow, which is powered by a protostar belonging to a protobinary system. Using the APEX telescope on Chajnantor, we mapped the BHR71 highly-collimated outflow in CO(3-2), and observed several bright points of the outflow in the molecular transitions CO(4-3), CO(7-6), 13CO(3-2), C18O(3-2), CH3OH(7-6) and H2CO(4-3). We use an LVG code to characterise the temperature enhancements in these regions. These observations are particularly interesting for investigating the interaction of collimated outflows with the ambient molecular cloud. In our CO(3-2) map, the second outflow driven by IRS2, which is the second source of the binary system, is completely revealed and shown to be bipolar. We also measure temperature enhancements in the lobes. The CO and methanol LVG modelling points to temperatures between 30 and 50 K in the two lobes. The methanol emission in the southern lobe bright knot is barely resolved with the APEX single-dish. ALMA will thus be a central tool to study the shock chemistry in these regions. We present numerical simulations of the evolution of low-mass, isothermal, molecular cores which are subjected to an increase in external pressure. If the external pressure increases very slowly, the core approaches instability quite quasi-statically. However, for faster compressions, a compression wave is driven into the core (Hennebelle, P., Whitworth, A., Gladwin, P. and André, P.: 2003a MNRAS340, 870). Quantitative comparisons with observational velocity and density profiles are presented. The consequences of this compression for the fragmentation of the cloud is investigated and discussed. Up to date, only six imines have been detected in the interstellar medium. The 3-carbon imine, 2-propanimine ((CH3)2C = NH), is predicted to be the structural isomer with the lowest energy in the C3H7N group, and appears to be a good candidate for astronomical searches. Unexpectedly, no microwave or millimeter wave spectrum is available for 2-propanimine. In this work, we provide the first high-resolution millimeter wave spectrum of 2-propanimine and its analysis. With the guide of this laboratory measurement, we aim to search for 2-propanimine in two molecule-rich sources Sgr B2(N) and IRAS 16293–2422 using observations from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). Starting from a synthesized sample, we measured the spectrum of 2-propanimine from 50 to 500 GHz, and the ground state lines are successfully assigned and fitted using XIAM and ERHAM programs with the aid of theoretical calculations. The barriers to internal rotation of the two CH3 tops are determined to be 531.956(64) cm−1 and 465.013(26) cm−1 by XIAM. These data are able to provide reliable prediction of transition frequencies for astronomical search. Although a few line matches exist, no confirmed detection of 2-propanimine has been found in the hot molecular core Sgr B2(N1S) and the Class 0 protostar IRAS 16293B. Upper-limits of its column density have been derived, and indicate that 2-propanimine is at least 18 times less abundant than methanimine in Sgr B2(N1S), and is at most 50 – 83  per cent of methanimine in IRAS 16293B. Rotational spectra of methyl cyanide were recorded newly and were analyzed together with existing spectra to extend the global model of low-lying vibrational states and their interactions to υ 4 = 1 at 920 cm−1. The rotational spectra cover large portions of the 36–1439 GHz region and reach quantum numbers J and K of 79 and 16, respectively. Information on the K level structure of CH 3 CN is obtained from IR spectra. A spectrum of 2 ν 8 around 717 cm−1, analyzed in our previous study, covered also the ν 4 band. The assignments in this band cover 880–952 cm−1, attaining quantum numbers J and K of 61 and 13, respectively. The most important interaction of υ 4 = 1 appears to be with υ 8 = 3 , Δ K = 0 , Δ l = + 3 , a previously characterized anharmonic resonance. We report new analyses of interactions with Δ K = - 2 and Δ l = + 1 , with Δ K = - 4 and Δ l = - 1 , and with Δ K = - 6 and Δ l = - 3 ; these four types of interactions connect all l substates of υ 8 = 3 in energy to υ 4 = 1. A known Δ K = - 2 , Δ l = + 1 interaction with υ 7 = 1 was also analyzed, and investigations of the Δ K = + 1 , Δ l = - 2 and Δ K = + 3 , Δ l = 0 resonances with υ 8 = 2 were improved, as were interactions between successive states with υ 8 ⩽ 3 , mainly through new υ 8 ⩽ 2 rotational data. A preliminary single state analysis of the υ 4 = υ 8 = 1 state was carried out based on rotational transition frequencies and on ν 4 + ν 8 - ν 8 hot band data. A considerable fraction of the K levels was reproduced within uncertainties in its entirety or in part, despite obvious widespread perturbations in υ 4 = υ 8 = 1. Context. Spectral lines of minor isotopic species of molecules that are abundant in space may also be detectable. Their respective isotopic ratios may provide clues about the formation of these molecules. Emission lines of acetone in the hot molecular core Sagittarius B2(N2) are strong enough to warrant a search for its singly substituted 13C isotopologs. Aims. We want to study the rotational spectra of CH313 CH 3 13 $ \mathrm{CH}_3^{13} $ C(O)CH3 and 13CH3C(O)CH3 and search for them in Sagittarius B2(N2). Methods. We investigated the laboratory rotational spectrum of isotopically enriched CH313 CH 3 13 $ \mathrm{CH}_3^{13} $ C(O)CH3 between 40 GHz and 910 GHz and of acetone between 36 GHz and 910 GHz in order to study 13CH3C(O)CH3 in natural isotopic composition. In addition, we searched for emission lines produced by these species in a molecular line survey of Sagittarius B2(N) carried out with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). Discrepancies between predictions of the main isotopic species and the ALMA spectrum prompted us to revisit the rotational spectrum of this isotopolog. Results. We assigned 9711 new transitions of CH313 CH 3 13 $ \mathrm{CH}_3^{13} $ C(O)CH3 and 63 new transitions of 13CH3C(O)CH3 in the laboratory spectra. More than 1000 additional transitions were assigned for the main isotopic species. We modeled the ground state data of all three isotopologs satisfactorily with the ERHAM program. We find that models of the torsionally excited states v12 = 1 and v17 = 1 of CH3C(O)CH3 improve only marginally. No transitrrrion of CH313 CH 3 13 $ \mathrm{CH}_3^{13} $ C(O)CH3 is clearly detected toward the hot molecular core Sgr B2(N2). However, we report a tentative detection of 13CH3C(O)CH3 with a 12C/13C isotopic ratio of 27 that is consistent with the ratio previously measured for alcohols in this source. Several dozens of transitions of both torsional states of the main isotopolog are detected as well. Conclusion. Our predictions of CH313 CH 3 13 $ \mathrm{CH}_3^{13} $ C(O)CH3 and CH3C(O)CH3 are reliable into the terahertz region. The spectrum of 13CH3C(O)CH3 should be revisited in the laboratory with an enriched sample. The torsionally excited states v12 = 1 and v17 = 1 of CH3C(O)CH3 were not reproduced satisfactorily in our models. Context. New laboratory investigations of the rotational spectrum of postulated astronomical species are essential to support the assignment and analysis of current astronomical surveys. In particular, considerable interest surrounds sulfur analogs of oxygen-containing interstellar molecules and their isomers. Aims. To enable reliable interstellar searches of vinyl mercaptan, the sulfur-containing analog to the astronomical species vinyl alcohol, we investigated its pure rotational spectrum at millimeter wavelengths. Methods. We extended the pure rotational investigation of the two isomers syn and anti vinyl mercaptan to the millimeter domain using a frequency-multiplication spectrometer. The species were produced by a radiofrequency discharge in 1,2-ethanedithiol. Additional transitions were remeasured in the centimeter band using Fourier-transform microwave spectroscopy to better determine rest frequencies of transitions with low-J and low-Ka values. Experimental investigations were supported by quantum chemical calculations on the energetics of both the [C2,H4,S] and [C2,H4,O] isomeric families. Interstellar searches for both syn and anti vinyl mercaptan as well as vinyl alcohol were performed in the EMoCA spectral line survey carried out toward Sgr B2(N2) with ALMA. Results. Highly accurate experimental frequencies (to better than 100 kHz accuracy) for both syn and anti isomers of vinyl mercaptan are measured up to 250 GHz; these deviate considerably from predictions based on extrapolation of previous microwave measurements. Reliable frequency predictions of the astronomically most interesting millimeter-wave lines for these two species can now be derived from the best-fit spectroscopic constants. From the energetic investigations, the four lowest singlet isomers of the [C2,H4,S] family are calculated to be nearly isoenergetic, which makes this family a fairly unique test bed for assessing possible reaction pathways. Upper limits for the column density of syn and anti vinyl mercaptan are derived toward the extremely molecule-rich star-forming region Sgr B2(N2) enabling comparison with selected complex organic molecules. Context. Molecules containing two or more hydrogen or deuterium atoms have different nuclear spin states which behave as separate chemical species. The relative abundances of these species can give clues to their origin. Formation on grains is believed to yield statistical spin ratios whereas gas-phase reactions are predicted to result in clear deviations from them. This is also true for ammonia and its deuterated forms NH2D, NHD2, and ND3. Aims. Here we aim to determine the ortho/para ratios of NH2D and NHD2 in dense, starless cores, where their formation is supposed to be dominated by gas-phase reactions. Methods. The Large APEX sub-Millimeter Array (LAsMA) multibeam receiver of the Atacama Pathfinder EXperiment (APEX) telescope was used to observe the prestellar cores H-MM1 and Oph D in Ophiuchus in the ground-state lines of ortho and para NH2D and NHD2. The fractional abundances of these molecules were derived employing three-dimensional radiative transfer modelling, using different assumptions about the abundance profiles as functions of density. We also ran gas-grain chemistry models with different scenarios concerning proton or deuteron exchanges and chemical desorption from grains to find out if one of these models can reproduce the observed spin ratios. Results. The observationally deduced ortho/para ratios of NH2D and NHD2 are in both cores within 10% of their statistical values 3 and 2, respectively, and taking 3 σ limits, deviations from these of about 20% are allowed. Of the chemistry models tested here, the model that assumes proton hop (as opposed to full scrambling) in reactions contributing to ammonia formation, and a constant efficiency of chemical desorption, comes nearest to the observed abundances and spin ratios. Conclusions. The nuclear spin ratios derived here are in contrast with spin-state chemistry models that assume full scrambling in proton donation and hydrogen abstraction reactions leading to deuterated ammonia. The efficiency of chemical desorption strongly influences the predicted abundances of NH3, NH2D, and NHD2, but has a lesser effect on their ortho/para ratios. For these the proton exchange scenario in the gas is decisive. We suggest that this is because of rapid re-processing of ammonia and related cations by gas-phase ion-molecule reactions. Context. FU Orionis (FUor) and EX Lupi (EXor) type objects represent two small but rather spectacular groups of low-mass, young, eruptive stars. In both cases, outbursts of several magnitudes are observed, which are attributed to enhanced mass accretion from the circumstellar disc onto the central protostar. Although these objects are well studied at optical and near-infrared wavelengths, their host molecular environments are poorly explored because of the scarcity of systematic molecular line observations. Aims. We aim to carry out the first dedicated survey of the molecular environments of a large sample of FUors and EXors, observing a total of 51 sources, including some Gaia alerts, to study the ammonia (NH3) emission in their host environments. Methods. We observed the ammonia (J, K) = (1,1), (2,2), and (3,3) inversion transitions at ~23.7 GHz in position-switching mode using the Effelsberg 100-m radio telescope. For 19 of the 51 sources in our sample, we derived H2 column densities and dust temperatures using archival Herschel/SPIRE data at 250 µm, 300 µm, and 500 µm. Results. We detected the NH3 (1,1) transition toward 28 sources and the (2,2) transition toward 12 sources, while the (3,3) transition was detected towards only two sources in our sample. We find kinetic temperatures between ~12K and 21 K, ammonia column densities from 5.2 × 1013 cm-2 to 3.2 × 1015 cm-2, and fractional ammonia abundances with respect to H2 from 4.7 × 10-9 to 1.5 × 10-7. These results are comparable to those found in infrared dark clouds (IRDCs). Our kinematic analysis suggests that most of the eruptive stars in our sample reside in rather quiescent (sonic or transonic) host environments. Conclusions. Our NH3 observations and analysis of the SPIRE dust-based H2 column density maps confirm the presence of dense material towards seven sources in our sample; additional sources might also harbour dense gas based on their NH2 (2,2) detections, potentially indicating an earlier phase than originally classified. Context. No chiral molecule has been detected in the interstellar medium (ISM) so far. Aims. A good candidate for an interstellar detection is 2-aminopropionitrile (CH3CH(NH2)CN), a chiral molecule with a C3H6N2 formula. The first member of this series, aminoacetonitrile (H2NCH2CN), was recently detected, demonstrating that at least one aminonitrile exists in the ISM. Methods. Experimental spectra of 2-aminopropionitrile have been recorded in the microwave and submm energy range (8-80 GHz, 150-660 GHz). Ab initio calculations facilitated the assignment of the ground state of the most stable conformer and its five lowest excited vibrational states. An unbiased spectral survey of the 80-116 GHz atmospheric window performed with the IRAM 30m telescope was used to search for this molecule in the hot core Sgr B2(N). This survey was analyzed in the local thermodynamical equilibrium (LTE) approximation. The emission of 2-aminopropionitrile was modeled simultaneously with the emission of all molecules known in Sgr B2(N), which allowed us to properly take into account line blending and avoid misassignments. Results. More than 4000 lines of the ground state and the five lowest excited vibrational states (from 185 to 375 cm-1) were assigned in the experimental spectrum. The partition function including the vibrational contribution of these states was calculated. Only ten groups of transitions of 2-aminopropionitrile are not severely affected by line blending in the Sgr B2(N) spectrum. Six of them could be considered as tentatively detected but the LTE predictions of the four remaining groups are not (or only marginally) consistent with the observed spectrum. Therefore, only an upper limit of 1.7 × 1016 cm-2 can be securely derived for the column density of 2-aminopropionitrile toward Sgr B2(N), assuming the same source size, temperature, linewidth, and systemic velocity as for aminoacetonitrile Conclusions. 2-aminopropionitrile is at least 1.8 times less abundant than aminoacetonitrile. A simple comparison to the pair methyl cyanide (CH3CN)/ethyl cyanide (CH3CH2CN) detected toward Sgr B2(N) suggests that 2-aminopropionitrile should be 3.5 times less abundant than aminoacetonitrile, which is consistent with the limit derived here [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: To date, glioblastoma treatments have only been palliative. In this context, locoregional drug delivery strategies, which allow for blood–brain barrier bypass and reduced systemic toxicity, are of major significance. Recent progress in nanotechnology has led to the development of colloidal carriers of radiopharmaceutics, such as lipid nanocapsules loaded with rhenium-188 (LNC188Re-SSS) that are implanted in the brain. In our study, we demonstrated that fractionated internal radiation using LNC188Re-SSS triggered remarkable survival responses in a rat orthotopic glioma model (cure rates of 83%). We also highlighted the importance of the radioactivity activity gradient obtained by combining a simple stereotactic injection (SI) with convection-enhanced delivery (CED).We assumed that the immune system played a role in the treatment’s efficacy on account of the overproduction of peripheral cytokines, recruitment of immune cells to the tumor site, and memory response in long-term survivor animals. Hence, nanovectorized internal radiation therapy with activity gradients stimulating immune responses may represent a new and interesting alternative for the treatment of solid tumors such as glioblastomas. Improving our understanding of the earliest stages of star formation is crucial to gain insight into the origin of stellar masses, multiple systems, and protoplanetary disks. We discuss recent advances made in this area, thanks to submillimeter mapping observations with large single-dish telescopes and interferometers. Although ambipolar diffusion appears to be too slow cores, there is nevertheless good evidence that the gravitational collapse of isolated protostellar cores is strongly magnetically controlled. The FU Orionis (FUor) and EX Lupi (EXor) type objects are rare pre-main sequence low-mass stars undergoing accretion outbursts. Maser emission is widespread and is a powerful probe of mass accretion and ejection on small scales in star forming region. However, very little is known about the overall prevalence of water masers towards FUors/Exors. We present results from our survey using the Effelsberg 100-m telescope to observe the largest sample of FUors and EXors, plus additional Gaia alerted sources (with the potential nature of being eruptive stars), a total of 51 targets, observing the 22.2 GHz H2O maser, while simultaneously covering the NH3 23 GHz. Background: Wolman disease (WD), the rapidly progressive phenotype of lysosomal acid lipase (LAL) deficiency, presents in neonates with failure to thrive and hepatosplenomegaly, and leads to multi-organ failure and death before 12 months of age. In clinical trials, enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with sebelipase alfa led to improved survival, growth and biological parameters in WD patients followed up to 5 years. Long-term follow-up and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) evaluation are lacking.Results: We performed a nationwide, retrospective study of sebelipase alfa in WD patients. Five patients with abolished LAL activity and bi-allelic LIPA mutations were included with a median follow-up of 7 years (1-10). ERT was initiated at a median age of 1 month (0-4). Infusion tolerance was excellent on the long-term with only one patient requiring systematic pre-medication. Cholestyramine, fat-soluble vitamin supplements and a specific diet (high in medium-chain triglycerides and low in long-chain fatty acids) were prescribed. Liver function tests, plasma lipid profiles, fat-soluble vitamin levels and growth parameters improved. Three patients transiently exhibited a neuromyopathic phenotype (footdrop gait, waddling walk or muscle fatigue) but electromyography and muscle strength testing were normal. At last follow-up, all patients were alive with normal growth parameters and a satisfactory HRQoL, no patient had special education needs, and one patient required parenteral nutrition since an acute gastroenteritis.Conclusions: Early ERT initiation allowed 100% survival with positive outcomes. Very long-term follow-up and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation while on ERT should be evaluated to strengthen the benefits of sebelipase alfa. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Context. The process of mass accretion in the earliest phases of star formation is still not fully understood: does the accretion rate smoothly decline with the age of the protostar or are there short, intermittent accretion bursts? The latter option would also yield the possibility for very low-luminosity objects (VeLLOs) to be precursors of solar-type stars, even though they do not seem to have sufficiently high accretion rates to reach stellar masses during their protostellar lifetime. Nevertheless, probing such intermittent events in the deeply embedded phase is not easy. Chemical signatures in the protostellar envelope can trace a past accretion burst. Aims. We aim to explore whether or not the observed C18O and N2H+ emission pattern towards the VeLLO IRAM 04191+1522 can be understood in the framework of a scenario where the emission is chemically tracing a past accretion burst. Methods. We used high-angular-resolution Plateau de Bure Interferometer (PdBI) observations of C18O and N2H+ towards IRAM 04191+1522 that were obtained as part of the CALYPSO IRAM Large Program (Continuum And Lines in Young ProtoStellar Objects). We model these observations using a chemical code with a time-dependent physical structure coupled with a radiative transfer module, where we allow for variations in the source luminosity. Results. We find that the N2H+ line emission shows a central hole, with the N2H+ emission peaking at a radius of about 10′′ (1400 au) from the source, while the C18O emission is compact (1.3′′ FWHM, corresponding to 182 au). The morphology of these two lines cannot be reproduced with a constant luminosity model based on the present-day internal luminosity (0.08 L⊙). However, the N2H+ peaks are consistent with a constant-luminosity model of 12 L⊙. Using a model with time-dependent temperature and density profiles, we show that the observed N2H+ peak emission could indeed be caused by a past accretion burst with a luminosity 150 times higher than the present-day luminosity. Such a burst should have occurred a couple of hundred years ago. Conclusions. We suggest that an accretion burst occurred in IRAM 04191+1522 in the recent past. If such bursts are common and sufficiently long in VeLLOs, they could lead to higher accretion onto the central object than their luminosity suggests. For IRAM 04191 in particular, our results yield an estimated final mass of 0.2–0.25 M⊙ by the end of the Class 0 phase, which would make this object a low-mass star rather than a brown dwarf. More generally, our analysis demonstrates that the combination of observations of N2H+ and C18O is a more reliable diagnostic of past outburst activity than C18O or N2H+ emission alone. Context. Measuring isotopic ratios is a sensitive technique used to obtain information on stellar nucleosynthesis and chemical evolution. Aims. We present measurements of the carbon and sulphur abundances in the interstellar medium of the central region of our Galaxy. The selected targets are the +50 km s−1 Cloud and several line-of-sight clouds towards Sgr B2(N). Methods. Towards the +50 km s−1 Cloud, we observed the J = 2–1 rotational transitions of 12C32S, 12C34S, 13C32S, 12C33S, and 13C34S, and the J = 3–2 transitions of 12C32S and 12C34S with the IRAM-30 m telescope, as well as the J = 6–5 transitions of 12C34S and 13C32S with the APEX 12 m telescope, all in emission. The J = 2–1 rotational transitions of 12C32S, 12C34S, 13C32S, and 13C34S were observed with ALMA in the envelope of Sgr B2(N), with those of 12C32S and 12C34S also observed in the line-of-sight clouds towards Sgr B2(N), all in absorption. Results. In the +50 km s−1 Cloud we derive a 12C/13C isotopic ratio of 22.1 −2.4+3.3 $^{+3.3}_{-2.4}$ − 2.4 + 3.3 , that leads, with the measured 13C32S/12C34S line intensity ratio, to a 32S/34S ratio of 16.3 −2.4+3.0 $^{+3.0}_{-2.4}$ − 2.4 + 3.0 . We also derive the 32S/34S isotopic ratio more directly from the two isotopologues 13C32S and 13C34S, which leads to an independent 32S/34S estimation of 16.3 −1.7+2.1 $^{+2.1}_{-1.7}$ − 1.7 + 2.1 and 17.9 ± 5.0 for the +50 km s−1 Cloud and Sgr B2(N), respectively. We also obtain a 34S/33S ratio of 4.3 ± 0.2 in the +50 km s−1 Cloud. Conclusions. Previous studies observed a decreasing trend in the 32S/34S isotopic ratios when approaching the Galactic centre. Our result indicates a termination of this tendency at least at a galactocentric distance of 130 −30+60 $_{-30}^{+60}$ − 30 + 60 pc. This is at variance with findings based on 12C/13C, 14N/15N, and 18O/17O isotope ratios, where the above-mentioned trend is observed to continue right to the central molecular zone. This can indicate a drop in the production of massive stars at the Galactic centre, in the same line as recent metallicity gradient ([Fe/H]) studies, and opens the work towards a comparison with Galactic and stellar evolution models. Inherited amino-acid metabolism disorders (IAAMDs) require lifelong protein-restricted diet. We aimed to investigate: 1/ whether IAAMDs was associated with growth, pubertal, bone mineral apparent density (BMAD) or body composition impairments; 2/ associations linking height, amino-acid mixture (AAM), plasma amino-acids and IGF1 concentrations. Retrospective longitudinal study of 213 patients with neonatal-onset urea cycle disorders (UCD, n = 77), organic aciduria (OA, n = 89), maple syrup urine disease (MSUD, n = 34), or tyrosinaemia type 1 (n = 13). We collected growth parameters, pubertal status, BMAD, body composition, protein-intake, and IGF1 throughout growth. Overall final height (n = 69) was below target height (TH): −0.9(1.4) vs. -0.1(0.9) SD, p < 0.001. Final height was ≤ TH-2SD in 12 (21%) patients. Height ≤ − 2SD was more frequent during puberty than during early-infancy and pre-puberty: 23.5% vs. 6.9%, p = 0.002; and vs. 10.7%, p < 0.001. Pubertal delay was frequent (26.7%). Height (SD) was positively associated with isoleucine concentration: β, 0.008; 95%CI, 0.003 to 0.012; p = 0.001. In the pubertal subgroup, height (SD) was lower in patients with vs. without AAM supplementation: −1.22 (1.40) vs. -0.63 (1.46) (p = 0.02). In OA, height and median (IQR) isoleucine and valine concentrations(μmol/L) during puberty were lower in patients with vs. without AAM supplementation: −1.75 (1.30) vs. −0.33 (1.55) SD, p < 0.001; and 40 (23) vs. 60 (25) (p = 0.02) and 138 (92) vs. 191 (63) (p = 0.01), respectively. No correlation was found with IGF1. Lean-mass index was lower than fat-mass index: −2.03 (1.15) vs. -0.44 (0.89), p < 0.001. In IAAMDs, growth retardation worsened during puberty which was delayed in all disease subgroups. Height seems linked to the disease, AAM composition and lower isoleucine concentration, independently of the GH-IGF1 pathway. We recommend close monitoring of diet during puberty. • Growth and final height are impaired in inborn errors of protein metabolism with protein-restricted diet, notably in male. • Growth retardation worsened during puberty with no subsequent catch-up gains. • Delayed puberty is noted in a quarter of patients and was more common in males. • Dietary proteins are associated with growth retardation. Episodic accretion has been used to explain the wide range of protostellar luminosities, but its origin and influence on the star-forming process are not yet fully understood. We present an ALMA survey of N2H+ (1−0) and HCO+ (3−2) toward 39 Class 0 and Class I sources in the Perseus molecular cloud. N2H+ and HCO+ are destroyed via gas-phase reactions with CO and H2O, respectively, thus tracing the CO and H2O snowline locations. A snowline location at a much larger radius than that expected from the current luminosity suggests that an accretion burst has occurred in the past that has shifted the snowline outward. We identified 18/18 Class 0 and 9/10 Class I post-burst sources from N2H+ and 7/17 Class 0 and 1/8 Class I post-burst sources from HCO+. The accretion luminosities during the past bursts are found to be ∼10–100 L⊙. This result can be interpreted as either evolution of burst frequency or disk evolution. In the former case, assuming that refreeze-out timescales are 1000 yr for H2O and 10,000 yr for CO, we found that the intervals between bursts increase from 2400 yr in the Class 0 stage to 8000 yr in the Class I stage. This decrease in the burst frequency may reflect that fragmentation is more likely to occur at an earlier evolutionary stage when the young stellar object is more prone to instability. Methyl mercaptan (CH3SH) is an important sulfur-bearing species in the interstellar medium, terrestrial environment, and potentially in planetary atmospheres. The aim of the present study is to provide accurate spectroscopic parameters for the most abundant minor isotopolog CH334SH to support radio astronomical observations at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths. The rotational spectrum of CH334SH, which is complicated by the large-amplitude internal rotation of the CH3 group versus the 34SH frame, was investigated in the 49−510 GHz and 1.1−1.5 THz frequency ranges in natural isotopic abundance. The analysis of the spectrum was performed up to the second excited torsional state, and the obtained data were modeled with the RAM36 program. A fit within experimental accuracy was obtained with a RAM Hamiltonian model that uses 72 parameters. Predictions based on this fit are used to search for CH334SH with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) toward the hot molecular core Sgr B2(N2), but blends with emission lines of other species prevent its firm identification in this source. We present ALMA long-baseline observations toward the Class 0 protostar IRAS 16253–2429 (hereafter IRAS 16253) with a resolution down to 0.″12 (∼15 au). The 1.3 mm dust continuum emission has a deconvolved Gaussian size of (20 au × 8.8 au), likely tracing an inclined dusty disk. Interestingly, the position of the 1.38 mm emission is offset from that of the 0.87 mm emission along the disk minor axis. Such an offset may come from a torus-like disk with very different optical depths between these two wavelengths. Furthermore, through CO (2 − 1) and C18O (2 − 1) observations, we study rotation and infall motions in this disk–envelope system and infer the presence of a Keplerian disk with a radius of 8–32 au. This result suggests that the disk could have formed by directly evolving from a first core, because IRAS 16253 is too young to gradually grow a disk to such a size considering the low rotation rate of its envelope. In addition, we find a quadruple pattern in the CO emission at low velocity, which may originate from CO freeze out at the disk/envelope midplane. This suggests that the “cold disk” may appear in the early stage, implying a chemical evolution for the disk around this proto-brown dwarf (or very-low-mass protostar) different from that of low-mass stars. The results of long-term monitoring of the Galactic maser source IRAS 18316–0602 (G25.65+1.05) in the water-vapor line at frequency f = 22.235 GHz (616–523 transitioin) carried out on the 22-m Simeiz, 26-m HartRAO, and 26-m Torun radio telescopes are reported. The source has been episodically observed on the Simeiz telescope since 2000, with more regular observations beginning in 2017. A double flare was observed beginning in September 2017 and continuing to February 2018, which was the most powerful flare registered over the entire history of observations of this object. Most of the monitoring of the flare was carried out in a daily regime. Detailed analysis of the variations of the flux density, which reached a maximum value P ≈ 1.3 × 105 Jy, have led to important scientific conclusions about possible mechanisms for the emission in this water line. The exponential growth in the flux density in this double flare testifies that it was associated with a maser that was unsaturated right up to the maximum flux densities observed. An additional argument suggesting the maser was unsaturated is the relatively moderate degree of linear polarization (≈30%), nearly half the value displayed by the Galactic kilomasers in Orion KL. The accurate distance estimate for IRAS 18316–0602 (12.5 kpc) and the flux density at the flare maximum (≈1.3 × 105 Jy) makes this the most powerful Galactic kilomaser known. The double form of the flare with exponential rises in flux density rules out the possibility that the flare is the effect of directivity of a radiation beam relative to the observer. The physical nature of the flare is most likely related to internal parameters of the medium in which the maser clumps radiating in the water line are located. A rapid, exponential growth in the flux density of a kilomaser and associated exponential decays requires the presence of an explosive increase in the density of the medium and the photon flux, leading to an increase in the temperature by 10–40 K above the initial base level. A mechanism for the primary energy release in IRAS 18316–0602 is proposed, which is associated with a multiple massive star system located in a stage of evolution preceding its entry onto the main sequence. A flare in this object could initiate gravitational interaction between the central star and a massive companion at its periastron. The resulting powerful gravitational perturbation could lead to the ejection of the envelope of the central supermassive star, which gives rise to an explosive increase in the density and temperature of the associate gas–dust medium when it reaches the disk, where the maser clumps are located. Context. Understanding the formation mechanisms of protoplanetary disks and multiple systems and also their pristine properties are key questions for modern astrophysics. The properties of the youngest disks, embedded in rotating infalling protostellar envelopes, have largely remained unconstrained up to now. Aims. We aim to observe the youngest protostars with a spatial resolution that is high enough to resolve and characterize the progenitors of protoplanetary disks. This can only be achieved using submillimeter and millimeter interferometric facilities. In the framework of the IRAM Plateau de Bure Interferometer survey CALYPSO, we have obtained subarcsecond observations of the dust continuum emission at 231 and 94 GHz for a sample of 16 solar-type Class 0 protostars. Methods. In an attempt to identify disk-like structures embedded at small scales in the protostellar envelopes, we modeled the dust continuum emission visibility profiles using Plummer-like envelope models and envelope models that include additional Gaussian disk-like components. Results. Our analysis shows that in the CALYPSO sample, 11 of the 16 Class 0 protostars are better reproduced by models including a disk-like dust continuum component contributing to the flux at small scales, but less than 25% of these candidate protostellar disks are resolved at radii >60 au. Including all available literature constraints on Class 0 disks at subarcsecond scales, we show that our results are representative: most (>72% in a sample of 26 protostars) Class 0 protostellar disks are small and emerge only at radii <60 au. We find a multiplicity fraction of the CALYPSO protostars ≲57% ± 10% at the scales 100–5000 au, which generally agrees with the multiplicity properties of Class I protostars at similar scales. Conclusions. We compare our observational constraints on the disk size distribution in Class 0 protostars to the typical disk properties from protostellar formation models. If Class 0 protostars contain similar rotational energy as is currently estimated for prestellar cores, then hydrodynamical models of protostellar collapse systematically predict a high occurrence of large disks. Our observations suggest that these are rarely observed, however. Because they reduce the centrifugal radius and produce a disk size distribution that peaks at radii <100 au during the main accretion phase, magnetized models of rotating protostellar collapse are favored by our observations. The conditions leading to the formation of the most massive O-type stars are still an enigma in modern astrophysics. To assess the physical conditions of high-mass protostars in their main accretion phase, here we present a case study of a young massive clump selected from the ATLASGAL survey, G328.2551–0.5321. The source exhibits a bolometric luminosity of 1.3 × 104L⊙, which allows us to estimate that its current protostellar mass lies between ~11 and 16 M⊙. We show high angular resolution observations with ALMA that reach a physical scale of ~400 au. To reveal the structure of this high-mass protostellar envelope in detail at a ~0.17′′ resolution, we used the thermal dust continuum emission and spectroscopic information, amongst others from the CO (J = 3–2) line, which is sensitive to the high-velocity molecular outflow of the source. We also used the SiO (J = 8–7) and SO2 (J = 82,6 − 71,7) lines, which trace shocks along the outflow, as well as several CH3OH and HC3N lines that probe the gas of the inner envelope in the closest vicinity of the protostar. Our observations of the dust continuum emission reveal a single high-mass protostellar envelope, down to our resolution limit. We find evidence for a compact, marginally resolved continuum source that is surrounded by azimuthal elongations that could be consistent with a spiral pattern. We also report on the detection of a rotational line of CH3OH within its vt = 1 torsionally excited state. This shows two bright emission peaks that are spatially offset from the dust continuum peak and exhibit a distinct velocity component ±4.5 km s−1 offset from the systemic velocity of the source. Rotational diagram analysis and models based on local thermodynamic equilibrium assumption require high CH3OH column densities that reach N(CH3OH) = 1.2−2 × 1019 cm−2, and kinetic temperatures of the order of 160–200 K at the position of these peaks. A comparison of their morphology and kinematics with those of the outflow component of the CO line and the SO2 line suggests that the high-excitation CH3OH spots are associated with the innermost regions of the envelope. While the HC3N v7 = 0 (J = 37–36) line is also detected in the outflow, the HC3N v7 = 1e (J = 38–37) rotational transition within the first vibrationally excited state of the molecule shows a compact morphology. We find that the velocity shifts at the position of the observed high-excitation CH3 OH spots correspond well to the expected Keplerian velocity around a central object with 15 M⊙ consistent with the mass estimate based on the bolometric luminosity of the source. We propose a picture where the CH3 OH emission peaks trace the accretion shocks around the centrifugal barrier, pinpointing the interaction region between the collapsing envelope and an accretion disc. The physical properties of the accretion disc inferred from these observations suggest a specific angular momentum several times higher than typically observed towards low-mass protostars. This is consistent with a scenario of global collapse setting on at larger scales that could carry a more significant amount of kinetic energy compared to the core-collapse models of low-mass star formation. Furthermore, our results suggest that vibrationally excited HC3 N emission could be a new tracer for compact accretion discs around high-mass protostars. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Episodic accretion has been proposed as a solution to the long-standing luminosity problem in star formation; however, the process remains poorly understood. We present observations of line emission from N2H+ and CO isotopologues using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in the envelopes of eight very low luminosity objects (VeLLOs). In five of the sources the spatial distribution of emission from N2H+ and CO isotopologues shows a clear anticorrelation. It is proposed that this is tracing the CO snow line in the envelopes: N2H+ emission is depleted toward the center of these sources, in contrast to the CO isotopologue emission, which exhibits a peak. The positions of the CO snow lines traced by the N2H+ emission are located at much larger radii than those calculated using the current luminosities of the central sources. This implies that these five sources have experienced a recent accretion burst because the CO snow line would have been pushed outward during the burst because of the increased luminosity of the central star. The N2H+ and CO isotopologue emission from DCE161, one of the other three sources, is most likely tracing a transition disk at a later evolutionary stage. Excluding DCE161, five out of seven sources (i.e., ∼70%) show signatures of a recent accretion burst. This fraction is larger than that of the Class 0/I sources studied by Jørgensen et al. and Frimann et al., suggesting that the interval between accretion episodes in VeLLOs is shorter than that in Class 0/I sources. Context. CK Vulpeculae (CK Vul) is an enigmatic star whose outburst was observed in 1670–72. A stellar-merger event was proposed to explain its ancient eruption. Aims. We aim to investigate the composition of the molecular gas recently discovered in the remnant of CK Vul. Deriving the chemical, elemental, and isotopic composition is crucial for identifying the nature of the object and obtaining clues on its progenitor(s). Methods. We observed millimeter and submillimeter-wave spectra of CK Vul using the IRAM 30 m and APEX telescopes. Radiativetransfer modeling of the observed molecular features was performed to yield isotopic ratios for various elements. Results. The spectra of CK Vul reveal a very rich molecular environment of low excitation (Tex . 12 K). Atomic carbon and twentyseven different molecules, including two ions, were identified. They range from simple diatomic to complex polyatomic species of up to seven atoms large. The chemical composition of the molecular gas is indicative of carbon and nitrogen-driven chemistry but oxides are also present. Additionally, the abundance of fluorine may be enhanced. The spectra are rich in isotopologues that are very rare in most known sources. All stable isotopes of C, N, O, Si, and S are observed and their isotopic ratios are derived. Conclusions. The composition of the remnant’s molecular gas is most peculiar and gives rise to a very unique millimeter and submillimeter spectrum. The observation of ions and complex molecules suggests the presence of a photoionizing source but its nature (a central star or shocks) remains unknown. The elemental and isotopic composition of the gas cannot be easily reconciled with standard stellar nucleosynthesis but processing in hot CNO cycles and partial helium burning can explain most of the chemical peculiarities. The isotopic ratios of CK Vul are remarkably close to those of presolar “nova grains” but the link of Nova 1670 to objects responsible for these grains is unclear. The accuracy of isotopic ratios can be improved by future observations at higher angular resolutions and with realistic models of the kinematical structure of the remnant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims. We aim to clarify the origin of the multiple jet features emanating from the binary protostar SVS 13A (=VLA4A/VLA4B). Methods. We used the Plateau de Bure Interferometer to map at 0.3–0.800 (∼70–190 au) dust emission at 1.4 mm, CO(2–1), SiO(5–4), SO(65–54). Revised proper motions for VLA4A/4B and jet wiggling models are computed to clarify their respective contribution. Results. VLA4A shows compact dust emission suggestive of a disk <50 au, and is the hot corino source, while CO/SiO/SO counterparts to the small-scale H2 jet originate from VLA4B and reveal the jet variable velocity structure. This jet exhibits ' 3 00 wiggling consistent with orbital motion around a yet undetected '20–30 au companion to VLA4B, or jet precession. Jet wiggling combined with velocity variability can explain the large apparent angular momentum in CO bullets. We also uncover a synchronicity between CO jet bullets and knots in the HH7–11 chain demonstrating that they trace two distinct jets. Their '300 yr twin outburst period may be triggered by close perihelion approach of VLA4A in an eccentric orbit around VLA4B. A third jet is tentatively seen at PA ' 0 ◦ . Conclusions. SVS13 A harbors at least 2 and possibly 3 distinct jet sources. The CO and HH7-11 jets are launched from quasicoplanar disks, separated by 20–70 au. Their synchronous major events every 300 yr favor external triggering by close binary interactions, a scenario also invoked for FU Or outbursts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
