Understanding microscopic directional correlations in ion movements within lithium-ion battery (LIB) electrolytes is important because these correlations directly affect the ionic conductivity. Onsager transport coefficients are widely used to understand these correlations. On the other hand, the Van Hove function (VHF) is also capable of determining correlated motions. However, identifying various types of ion correlated motions in LIB electrolytes using VHF is not well explored. Here, we have conducted molecular dynamics simulations of a representative experimental LIB electrolyte system—lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6)—at different concentrations in a (9:1 wt. %) mixture of ethyl methyl carbonate and fluoroethylene carbonate in order to explore the capabilities and limitations of using VHF to understand different types of ion correlations. We conclude that analysis of VHF can qualitatively describe both the positive correlation between cation–anion at different salt concentrations and the negative correlation between cation–cation and anion–anion present in high salt concentration, but it cannot foretell which correlation is dominating at any given electrolyte concentration. This type of quantitative information can be obtained only via Onsager's approach. Phase separation plays a key role in determining the self-assembly of biological and soft-matter systems. In biological systems, liquid–liquid phase separation inside a cell leads to the formation of various macromolecular aggregates. The interaction among these aggregates is soft, i.e., they can significantly overlap at a small energy cost. From a computer simulation point of view, these complex macromolecular aggregates are generally modeled by soft particles. The effective interaction between two particles is defined via the generalized exponential model of index n, with n = 4. Here, using molecular dynamics simulations, we study the phase separation dynamics of a size-symmetric binary mixture of ultrasoft particles. We find that when the mixture is quenched to a temperature below the critical temperature, the two components spontaneously start to separate. Domains of the two components form, and the equal-time order parameter reveals that the domain sizes grow with time in a power-law manner with an exponent of 1/3, which is consistent with the Lifshitz–Slyozov law for conserved systems. Alzheimer's disease is a detrimental neurological disorder caused by the formation of amyloid fibrils due to the aggregation of amyloid-β peptide. The primary therapeutic approaches for treating Alzheimer's disease are targeted to prevent this amyloid fibril formation using potential inhibitor molecules. The discovery of such inhibitor molecules poses a formidable challenge to the design of anti-amyloid drugs. This study investigates the effect of caffeine on dimer formation of the full-length amyloid-β using a combined approach of all-atom, explicit water molecular dynamics simulations and the three-dimensional reference interaction site model theory. The change in the hydration free energy of amyloid-β dimer, with and without the inhibitor molecules, is calculated with respect to the monomeric amyloid-β, where the hydration free energy is decomposed into energetic and entropic components, respectively. Dimerization is accompanied by a positive change in the partial molar volume. Dimer formation is spontaneous, which implies a decrease in the hydration free energy. However, a reverse trend is observed for the dimer with inhibitor molecules. It is observed that the negatively charged residues primarily contribute for the formation of the amyloid-β dimer. Objective: Diabetes is a non-communicable disease, and the prevalence of diabetes is higher in low and middle-income countries. In India, diabetes prevalence has been observed, with some regional variations across the states. This study analyses the current scenario of diabetes in India among women of the reproductive age group between 15 to 49 years. Methods: For conducting this study, data were gathered from the fifth round of the National Family Health Survey (2019–2021). It is a two-stage cross-sectional stratified sampling survey that employs the probability proportional to size methodology. A total of 6,59,010 individual reproductive-age women have been sampled for this study. Data were analyzed using the Stata version 14 software. A binary logistic model was carried out to know the relationships between diabetes and various socioeconomic and demographic variables. In addition, the adjusted odds ratio was reported with a 95% confidence interval. Results: The result shows that about 1.65% of reproductive age group women in India are diabetic with the highest in Goa (4.09%) and the lowest in Nagaland (0.81%). Further, in urban areas, the women's diabetes rate is 16% higher than in the rural areas. Besides, diabetes is strongly correlated with obese reproductive age-group women who are above 35 years and reside in urban areas with higher socioeconomic status. Conclusion: This study suggests that there is an urgent need for frequent monitoring of glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c). We report a simple synthesis of a new lead-free zero-dimensional (0D) hybrid halide compound, (5P1)InBr5·2H2O [(5P1) = NH3C6H12NH3], which hosts isolated and distorted octahedra of [InBr5(H2O)]2−, surrounded by bulky asymmetric organic cations [(5P1)2+] and H2O molecules. This research aimed to determine the impact of varying loads on a hydrodynamic journal-bearing assembly, the speed of the journal corresponding to the bearing, and the influence of different grades of lubricant on the developed oil film. The critical response parameters, such as peak pressure, the direction of the journal's elevation relative to the bearing on the oil film, also known as peak pressure angle, and the frictional torque generated between the journal and bearing, has been demonstrated in this study. This work demonstrated a technique for developing an SIT capable of predicting peak pressure at various angles and frictional torque within the bearing using response surface methodology (RSM) in conjunction with a nDoE (novel design of experiment) optimization approach for an energy-efficient running condition. By overcoming the central composite design (CCD) and Box–Behnken (BB) restrictions, this robust nDoE may produce a robust prediction model for robust optimization. Both the nDoE and the generated SIT have been subjected to several fitness test matrices to ensure their resilience in qualitatively predicting response parameters without incurring any experimental expense or effort. The optimization findings indicated that a distinct tread-off between peak pressure and frictional torque was obtained at a given pressure angle. The optimal compromise of the input parameters results in the highest desirability of 90.8% for a maximum pressure of 269.969 psi and a minimum frictional torque of -2.505 N-mm at a peak pressure angle of 270°. Inelastic scattering between gas molecules and surfaces is a fundamental process that has been investigated extensively. In recent gas-surface scattering experiments [Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys. 19, 19904 (2017)] on formaldehyde scattering off the gold surface, the scattered formaldehyde molecules had a high propensity to excite twirling motion about the C–O bond. In the work presented here, we used classical dynamics simulations to understand energy transfer in formaldehyde–surface collisions and to probe the mechanism of interconversion of translational energy to rotational energy. The simulations reveal an increase in the rotational energy distribution with an increase in collision energies and a preferential rotational excitation about the C–O bond consistent with the experiments. The high propensity to excite the twirling motion was found to arise from a steering motion about the C–O bond during the scattering process governed by the minimum energy path. The role of curvature effects, in the thermal-field (TF) emission of electrons from nanotips, has been investigated. It is found that for field emitter tips having tip radius of curvature R a < 50 nm, the error on using the planar tunneling potential to evaluate the current density is significant compared to the curvature-corrected potential. Furthermore, the error is found to be strongly temperature dependent at low apex fields, whereas at high fields, it is only moderate. For emitter tips having tip radius R a ≥ 5 nm, a unified expression for current density applicable for field, thermal-field, and thermionic emission is obtained. In the analysis, a single linearization point corresponding to the peak of the normal energy distribution of electrons is chosen, about which the Gamow exponent is expanded. The temperature-dependent curvature-corrected current density equation is numerically validated against a benchmark that performs the current density integral with the Kemble form of the Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin transmission coefficient up to the peak of the tunneling potential, while above the barrier, the Morse transmission coefficient is used. The agreement is found to be good. It is inferred that the curvature plays a significant role in field and thermal-field emission, whereas in thermionic emission, it is not as important. In the limit where the apex radius of curvature R a → ∞ , it is able to retrieve the Murphy–Good equation as well as the Richardson–Laue–Dushman equation in their respective limits. Antimicrobial resistance is a prevalent problem witnessed globally and creating an alarming situation for the treatment of infections caused by resistant pathogens. Available armaments such as antibiotics often fail to exhibit the intended action against resistant pathogens, leading to failure in the treatments that are causing mortality. New antibiotics or a new treatment approach is necessary to combat this situation. P. aeruginosa is an opportunistic drug resistant pathogen and is the sixth most common cause of nosocomial infections. P. aeruginosa due to its genome organization and other factors are exhibiting resistance against drugs. Bacterial biofilm formation, low permeability of outer membrane, the production of the beta-lactamase, and the production of several efflux systems limits the antibacterial potential of several classes of antibiotics. Combination of phytoconstituents with antibiotics is a promising strategy to combat multidrug resistant P. aeruginosa. Phytoconstituents such as flavonoids, terpenoids, alkaloids, polypeptides, phenolics, and essential oils are well known antibacterial agents. In this review, the activity of combination of the phytoconstituents and antibiotics, and their corresponding mechanism of action was discussed elaborately. The absence of chain ends makes ring polymers distinctly different from their linear analogues. The intrinsic viscosity, complex viscosity and the dielectric relaxation of ring polymers are investigated within the tenets of the optimized Rouse–Zimm theory. The distance dependent excluded volume interactions (EVIs) are obtained from Flory's mean field theory. The hydrodynamic interactions (HIs) between the pairs of monomers are estimated using the preaveraged Oseen tensor. The intrinsic viscosity of linear and ring polymers both with and without EVI are compared as a function of ring size. A monotonically increasing trend of the intrinsic viscosity is observed in both cases. The intrinsic viscosity of both linear and ring polymers both with and without EVI show a very good agreement with the experimental results of polystyrene over a wide range of molecular weights in both good and theta solvents, respectively. The fractal dimensions of the ring polymers with EVI lie between that of a random walk and a self-avoiding walk model of linear polymers in three dimensions. The ring size increases with EVI and the effect of EVI is stronger on larger rings than that on smaller rings. The dielectric relaxation follow a connectivity independent universal scaling behavior at low and high frequency regions. The imaginary part of the complex dielectric susceptibility displays a local maxima in the intermediate frequency region, which reveals a structure dependent behavior of the rings. We report a large cryogenic magnetocaloric effect stemming from an unconventional borderline first-order magnetic phase transition with negligibly small thermomagnetic hysteresis in a rare-earth-based intermetallic compound PrNdIn. The sample exhibits maximum magnetic field-induced entropy change as large as −10 J/Kg K (for 20 kOe magnetic field change) near the boiling point of oxygen. Magnetocaloric properties of PrNdIn are comparable to those of other known potential magnetocaloric materials with operating temperatures ranging between 50 and 125 K. The magnetic properties of the present sample are qualitatively reminiscent of those of the binary Pr2In and Nd2In, including the emergence of a second low-temperature anomaly in the temperature dependence of magnetization. "Gating" is a widely observed phenomenon in biochemistry that describes the transition between the activated (or open) and deactivated (or closed) states of an ion-channel, which makes transport through that channel highly selective. In general, gating is a mechanism that imposes an additional restriction on a transport, as the process ends only when the "gate" is open and continues otherwise. When diffusion occurs in the presence of a constant bias to a gated target, i.e., to a target that switches between an open and a closed state, the dynamics essentially slow down compared to ungated drift-diffusion, resulting in an increase in the mean completion time, ⟨TG⟩ > ⟨T⟩, where T denotes the random time of transport and G indicates gating. In this work, we utilize stochastic resetting as an external protocol to counterbalance the delay due to gating. We consider a particle in the positive semi-infinite space that undergoes drift-diffusion in the presence of a stochastically gated target at the origin and is moreover subjected to rate-limiting resetting dynamics. Calculating the minimal mean completion time ⟨ T r ⋆ G ⟩ rendered by an optimal resetting rate r⋆ for this exactly solvable system, we construct a phase diagram that owns three distinct phases: (i) where resetting can make gated drift-diffusion faster even compared to the original ungated process, ⟨ T r ⋆ G ⟩ < ⟨ T ⟩ < ⟨ T G ⟩ , (ii) where resetting still expedites gated drift-diffusion but not beyond the original ungated process, ⟨ T ⟩ ≤ ⟨ T r ⋆ G ⟩ < ⟨ T G ⟩ , and (iii) where resetting fails to expedite gated drift-diffusion, ⟨ T ⟩ < ⟨ T G ⟩ ≤ ⟨ T r ⋆ G ⟩. We also highlight various non-trivial behaviors of the completion time as the resetting rate, gating parameters, and geometry of the set-up are carefully ramified. Gated drift-diffusion aptly models various stochastic processes such as chemical reactions that exclusively take place in certain activated states of the reactants. Synthetic dyes such as azo dyes are significant pollutants in the wastewater released from various textile industries. The low biodegradability and production from synthetic sources with high shelf life make azo dyes a challenging material for degradation. This study used chemically mutated Aspergillus terrus in the laccase production under solid-state fermentation using sugarcane bagasse. Initially, the wild-type strain produced a laccase activity of 4.12 U/mL. Later, the alkaline pretreatment of sugarcane bagasse showed a significant increase in laccase activity by 38.9%. Further, random mutagenesis treatment with 100 mM EMS generated a hyper laccase-producing strain with a 2.3-fold increment in laccase activity compared to the wild-type strain. The enzyme displayed optimal activity at pH 6.5 and 35 °C. The metal ions such as Fe3+ (29.4 U/mL), Fe2+ (20.8 U/mL) and Cu2+ (18.05 U/mL) showed positive effects on laccase activity. The crude laccase was used to bioremediate Congo red, a prominent azo dye used in textile and pharmaceutical industries. The preliminary studies with a crude enzyme displayed 68.86% dye decolourization after 24 h of incubation. Additionally, with Taguchi orthogonal array optimization experiments, the maximal dye decolorization of 78.24% was achieved by maintaining crude enzyme concentration (20 U), dye concentration (25 mg/L) and pH 4.5. With the growing prevalence of digital platforms for online shopping, advertising, and marketing activities in general, it is imperative to better understand how designs of virtual elements on digital interfaces influence click behavior. Websites and online advertisements contain virtual elements such as call-to-action buttons, images, and logos. This research examines how curved versus sharp angled shapes of virtual elements in online ads and on websites influence click-through rates (CTRs). The findings of a series of studies, including three field experiments and an eye tracking study, show that website and online ad elements in curved (vs. sharp angled) shapes generate higher CTRs. Process evidence suggests that curved (vs. sharp angled) digital elements enhance visual appeal, leading to approach motivation and greater CTR. In terms of practical implications, the findings of this research have strong relevance for designing online ads and website interfaces and for digital marketing strategies. The propagation of Rayleigh waves in a nonlocal thermoelastic layer which is lying over a nonlocal thermoelastic half-space is considered in the context of energy dissipation theory. In this study, our main focus is to investigate the mass–radius relation and several important properties of massive neutron stars to realize the nature, behavior and evolution of these kinds of compact objects at present time. Also, we want to understand the equation-of-state of the core nuclear matter precisely with their stable equilibrium configuration. We have chosen a few massive binary pulsars and investigated on maximum attainable mass and lowest possible radius of them. We have considered Einstein–Hilbert action as f (R , T) = R + α T , where R is the Ricci scalar and T , the trace of energy–momentum tensor with α as the coupling parameter and also used modified TOV equations. The interior space-time of the spherical neutron star is matched to the exterior Schwarzschild line element at the surface of the star. The M – R curve can predict the maximum achievable mass is about 3. 5 1 M ⊙ with lowest possible radius of around 1 0. 5 km for the massive compact stars under stable equilibrium. We have obtained a clear picture of structural evolution of massive neutron stars through accelerating space-time and can put some constraints on several quantities related to them. It is depicted from our present investigation that all the derived outcomes are compatible with physically adopted regimes which reveal the viability of our current model in the context of f (R , T) modified gravity. In the complex landscape of cancer biology, the discovery of microproteins has triggered a paradigm shift, thereby, challenging the conventional conceptions of gene regulation. Though overlooked for years, these entities encoded by the small open reading frames (100–150 codons), have a significant impact on various cellular processes. As precision medicine pioneers delve deeper into the genome and proteome, microproteins have come into the limelight. Typically characterized by a single protein domain that directly binds to the target protein complex and regulates their assembly, these microproteins have been shown to play a key role in fundamental biological processes such as RNA processing, DNA repair, and metabolism regulation. Techniques for identification and characterization, such as ribosome profiling and proteogenomic approaches, have unraveled unique mechanisms by which these microproteins regulate cell signaling or pathological processes in most diseases including cancer. However, the functional relevance of these microproteins in cancer remains unclear. In this paper, we formulate and analyze a compartmental model of visceral leishmaniasis (VL). We validate our model by calibrating it to the yearly VL incidence data for India and Bangladesh. The proposed model's basic reproduction number ( R 0 ) has been derived and estimated. We have proved the existence of backward bifurcation in our system. The phenomenon of backward bifurcation has public health implications because the classical requirement of R 0 < 1 , while necessary, is no longer sufficient for effective disease control (or elimination). In such a (backward bifurcation) situation, the initial sizes of the model's subpopulations (state variables) would determine the effectiveness of disease control or elimination. As a result, it is the first attempt to represent and study VL disease dynamics using active case detection (ACD) as a control strategy, although a few experimental studies have been conducted to evaluate ACD in disease transmission. We use sensitivity analysis to investigate the effects of the model's controllable parameters for the basic reproduction number. We found that σ 1 , σ 2 , σ 3 (monitoring rate to infected individuals) have negative impacts on R 0 . The numerical result suggests that the ACD strategy can be useful for the VL elimination program. Due to a small increment in the monitoring rate, the dynamic behavior of infected individuals dramatically decreased. Successful employment of ACD strategy may reduce more than 60–80% symptomatic and post kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis (PKDL) individuals. We found that healthcare organizations should prioritize ACD in symptomatic and PKDL individuals over asymptomatic individuals. We also observed that the use of only culling effect to the reservoirs is not beneficial to society in the control of VL, but spraying of insecticides and the use of treated bednets can be effective control strategies to curtail the outbreak of the disease. In the present study, a functionally graded metal-ceramic composite structure comprising SS410, Al 2 O 3 , and SiC particles with varying composition, structure and properties in a single deposit was successfully fabricated using direct energy deposition (DED). The composition varied from 90 % SS410 with 10 % (xAl 2 O 3 + ySiC) to 10 % SS410 with 90 % (xAl 2 O 3 + ySiC), where x = 70 % and y = 30 % in a five-layered FGM design. The microstructure, phase evolution and mechanical properties of the components with different composition gradients were characterized by microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, wavelength dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and micro hardness. The investigation revealed that complex phases such as C 0.12 Fe 0.79 Si 0.09 , M 7 C 3 , Fe 3 C, and Fe 3 Si formed as a result of the interaction between SiC and SS410 during the cladding process. Microstructural analysis showed a transition from columnar dendrites at the bottom zone of the cladding to a typical cellular structure and carbide particle agglomerates in the middle zone, with finer grains at the top zone. This gradation in microstructure correlated with an increase in microhardness ranging from 299 HV at the bottom to 966 HV at the top. This enhancement in hardness is primarily attributed to solid solution strengthening from C and Si originating from the decomposition of SiC and the precipitation of intermetallic phases. HgTe has been considered to be one of the most versatile topological materials. Depending on the in‐plane strain, Weyl and Dirac semi‐metal, as well as topological insulator phases, are feasible. Here, for the first time it is reported, that an InAs:S substrate promotes an initial 2D growth of a ZnTe thin layer and subsequent high crystalline quality ZnTe/CdTe superlattices serve as a smooth and continuous virtual substrate for the growth of (Cd,Hg)Te/HgTe/(Cd,Hg)Te heterostructures with unstrained quantum well HgTe (topological insulator) and compressively strained bulk HgTe (Weyl semimetal) by molecular beam epitaxy. Compared with the superlattices previously grown on GaAs substrates, the quantum well and bulk heterostructures exhibit homogeneous surfaces with root mean square roughnesses of 0.88–0.93 nm, which is three times lower than those observed for 3D islands (2.7–3.4 nm) on GaAs substrates. Additionally, magnetotransport measurements confirm high electronic quality and demonstrate that the S‐doped InAs substrate can be used as an effective back gate. Nitrite (NO2−) serves as a pool of nitric oxide (NO) in biological systems under hypoxic conditions, and it is transformed to NO by nitrite reductase (NiR) enzyme in the presence of acid (H+ ions). However, NO synthases (NOSs) generate NO via L‐arginine oxidation in normoxic conditions. Previously, acid‐induced NO2− reduction chemistry was modeled on mono‐metallic 3d‐metals, generating metal‐nitrosyls or NO(g) with H2O or H2O2 products. Herein, to understand the relative potency of a bimetallic system, we report the acid‐induced reductive conversion of η2‐bound NO2− to NO on CuII−CoII centers of a hetero‐bimetallic CuII‐nitrito‐CoII complex, [(LN8H)CuII−NO2−−CoII]3+ (CuII−NO2−−CoII, 2) bearing an octadentate N8‐cryptand ligand (LN8H). The CuII−NO2−−CoII generates [CuII(LN8H)CoII]4+ (1) upon reaction with one equiv. acid (HClO4, H+ ions source) with NO(g) via a presumed transient nitrousacid (ONOH) intermediate species. Likewise, this NO2− reduction was found to form H2O, which is believed to be from the decomposition of H2O2, an intermediate species. In addition, complex 2, in the presence of more than one equiv. H+ ions also showed the formation of NO(g) with H2O. Mechanistic investigations, using 15N‐labeled‐15NO2−, 18O‐labeled‐18O14N16O− and 2H‐labeled‐DClO4 (D+ source), revealed that the N‐atom and O‐atom in the 14/15NO and 14N18O gases are derived from NO2− ligand and H‐atom in H2O derived from H+‐source, respectively. In this work, a new kind of charge scheduling algorithm is proposed by utilizing the War Strategy Optimization (WSO) algorithm. The strategies used in the war such as attack, defense, assigning soldiers to take positions are the inspiration to this algorithm. The proposed WSO algorithm is validated in a constructed geographic area which consists of Six starting/destination points, sixteen nodes, and twelve charging stations. In terms of waiting time and charging cost, the experimental results show that the WSO method much improves over current methods. The average waiting time and average charging cost of EVs are validated in MATLAB, with different considerations such as different number of EVs varied from 25 to 100, and different number of charging piles varied from 1 to 4. The WSO algorithm specifically lowered charging costs by up to 13.67% compared to the same and waiting time by up to 83.25% relative to the First Come First Serve algorithm. Comparatively to the Chaotic Harris Hawk Optimization and Harris Hawk Optimization algorithms, the WSO method demonstrated declines in waiting time by 11.17% and 39.09%, respectively, and declines in charging costs by 3.61% and 12.45%, respectively. Especially in situations with limited charging infrastructure, these findings show that the WSO algorithm may improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of EV charging management systems. For real-world EV charging management systems, the method's capacity to efficiently allocate EVs among charging stations, lower waiting times, and lower charging costs makes it a potential solution. A direct consequence of the rapid expansion of civilization and modernization trends is the escalation in global warming and the consequential climatic upheavals. The world has actively advocated the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) as a response to the environmental challenges posed by vehicular emissions. It is evident that conventional fuel‐based charging infrastructures are economically impractical and lack organizational cohesion in light of the proliferation of EVs. An EV charging station powered by renewable energy presents a promising opportunity for enhancing flexibility and control. It is imperative that EV charging stations be equipped with solar power and standby batteries (SBBs). Consequently, this article presents and evaluates a system that utilizes a proportional‐integral‐derivative controller, a neural network‐equipped grid and a charging station utilizing a Dragon Fly Optimization Algorithm to generate power and a maximum power point tracking controller. To achieve optimal power management within the charging station, MATLAB/Simulink is used to implement and rigorously test the proposed system. It orchestrates the interaction between the solar panel, backup battery, grid and EVs. Compared to existing systems in the literature, the comprehensive system exhibits commendable efficiency. The present study demonstrates the influence of non-uniform heating on the nanofluidic thermal convection in an enclosure by keeping the mean temperature of heating constant. The non-uniform heating is applied by varying the slope of the linear temperature profile from 0° to 60° at an interval of 15°. The investigation is executed numerically following the finite volume discretization technique. Two different cases are taken into consideration: Case A for linearly increasing temperatures and Case B for linearly decreasing temperatures. The flow structures and heat transfer characteristics are studied for the Rayleigh number from 103 to 106 and the copper-water nanoparticle concentrations from 0 to 0.04, utilizing the streamlines, isotherms, and heatlines. The results reveal that the mean Nusselt number monotonically increases with a rise in slope for all linearly increasing temperature profiles. For the decreasing profiles (Case B), the Nusselt number decreases with a rise in the temperature slope for the lower Rayleigh number (103 and 104); however, a marginal increment is observed at the maximum profile angle for the higher Rayleigh number (105 and 106). Myelinating oligodendrocytes arise from the stepwise differentiation of oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs). Approximately 5% of all adult brain cells are OPCs. Why would a mature brain need such a large number of OPCs? New myelination is possibly required for higher‐order functions such as cognition and learning. Additionally, this pool of OPCs represents a source of new oligodendrocytes to replace those lost during injury, inflammation, or in diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS). How OPCs are instructed to differentiate into oligodendrocytes is poorly understood, and for reasons presently unclear, resident pools of OPCs are progressively less utilized in MS. The complement component 1, q subcomponent‐like (C1QL) protein family has been studied for their functions at neuron–neuron synapses, but we show that OPCs express C1ql1. We created OPC‐specific conditional knockout mice and show that C1QL1 deficiency reduces the differentiation of OPCs into oligodendrocytes and reduces myelin production during both development and recovery from cuprizone‐induced demyelination. In vivo over‐expression of C1QL1 causes the opposite phenotype: increased oligodendrocyte density and myelination during recovery from demyelination. We further used primary cultured OPCs to show that C1QL1 levels can bidirectionally regulate the extent of OPC differentiation in vitro. Our results suggest that C1QL1 may initiate a previously unrecognized signaling pathway to promote differentiation of OPCs into oligodendrocytes. This study has relevance for possible novel therapies for demyelinating diseases and may illuminate a previously undescribed mechanism to regulate the function of myelination in cognition and learning. AbstractThis study focuses on the semivolatile organic compound (SVOC) absorption through clothing and the skin. SVOCs are ubiquitous in daily life, in products like personal care items, plastics, and building materials. Understanding their permeation through the skin barrier is crucial for evaluating potential health risks of complete exposure. A PBPK model was developed to comprehend the dynamic interplay between SVOCs and human skin and to estimate tissue distribution throughout the body. The framework incorporated parameters such as skin permeability, physicochemical properties of the chemicals, and the impact of protective clothing and adsorbents. This model predicted the rate and extent of SVOC absorption under diverse scenarios. The PBPK predictions matched the experimental amount of mono-ethyl phthalate (MEP), a phthalate metabolite, when urine samples were collected for bare-skinned and clothed participants. Urine concentrations of MEP during a 6-hr exposure and for the next 48 hr show that clean clothing effectively decreased dermal uptake and the buildup of chemicals in the body. Additional removal of MEP was achieved through adsorption on activated carbon fabric. An increase in the maximum monolayer adsorption capacity or the Langmuir equilibrium constant further reduced the amount of MEP in the urine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Neurotransmitters are crucial for the proper functioning of neural systems, with dopamine playing a pivotal role in cognition, emotions, and motor control. Dysregulated dopamine levels are linked to various disorders, underscoring the need for accurate detection in research and diagnostics. Single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) aptamers are promising bioreceptors for dopamine detection due to their selectivity, improved stability, and synthesis feasibility. However, discrepancies in dopamine specificity have presented challenges. Here, we surface-functionalized a nano-plasmonic biosensing platform with a dopamine-specific ssDNA aptamer for selective detection. The biosensor, featuring narrowband hybrid plasmonic resonances, achieves high specificity through functionalization with aptamers and passivation processes. Sensitivity and selectivity for dopamine detection are demonstrated across a wide range of concentrations, including in diverse biological samples like protein solutions, cerebrospinal fluid, and whole blood. These results highlight the potential of plasmonic "aptasensors" for developing rapid and accurate diagnostic tools for disease monitoring, medical diagnostics, and targeted therapies. The crystal structure of La 0.7 Sr 0.3 Mn 1−x Al x O 3 (LSMAO) with x = 0,0.025,0.05,0.075 and 0.10 ceramics prepared by the Sol-gel method were investigated by employing the XRD technique. The XRD patterns analysis by employing the Rietveld analysis confirms the nonexistence of secondary crystal phase/s and, materials are crystallized to the R-3c(167) space group. The microstructural properties were studied using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The dielectric property, AC conductivity, complex impedance spectroscopy and complex electrical modulus have been studied over a wide range of frequencies (103 Hz–107 Hz) at different temperatures from 313K to 393K. The Non-Debye type relaxation process has been observed in synthesized samples confirmed from the Nyquist plot. The Cole-Cole plots were employed to estimate the individual grain and grain boundary contributions. The Maxwell-Wagner (MW) polarization model provides an explanation for the greater values of dielectric constant at the lower frequencies. Lithium Aluminosilicate glass-ceramics with striae (LAS-WS) and without striae (LAS-WoS) were processed using melt casting technique. LAS-WS and LAS-WoS samples were characterized and found stress birefringence >10 nm/cm and <10 nm/cm, respectively. LAS-WS and LAS-WoS samples were subjected to structural, microstructural, high temperature dielectric and electrical characterization. The presence of striation did not significantly affected the formation of β-spondumene structure during crystallization heat treatment. TEM image confirms the formation of nanocrystals in the glass matrix of lithium aluminosilicate glass-ceramics. The homogeneous distribution of LAS nanocrystals of average size of 3–6 nm is evident from TEM results. Stress birefringence distribution in lithium aluminosilicate glass-ceramic clearly shows the striae formation. Shadowgraphy images confirmed the striae free and striae containing regions in the glass-ceramic. The effect of striae on dielectric properties and AC conductivity was analysed using impedance spectroscopy and it was found that the value of the relative permittivity decreased from 415 (1.2 Hz) to 9.76 (1.2 MHz) for LAS-WoS and from 401 (1.2 Hz) to 10.3 (1.2 MHz) for LAS-WS, respectively. It was found that striae in LAS glass-ceramics influence the electrical impedance and AC conductivity relaxation process rather than relative permittivity. The effect of striae on crystallization and morphology are presented. Both the samples have shown crystallinity of more than 75 %. The electrical conductivity of σ = 2.0 × 10−3 S/cm for LAS-WoS and 2.7 × 10−3 S/cm for LAS-WS at 300 °C as well as σ = 4.6 × 10−3 S/cm for LAS-WoS and 6.9 × 10−3 S/cm for LAS-WS at 700 °C are found to be in good agreement due to increase in the electrical conductivity with temperature. The ionic conductivity of the material due to Li-ion mobility with respect to temperature and electric field and possible mechanism of AC conductivity are discussed. Genome analysis of individuals affected by retinitis pigmentosa (RP) identified two rare nucleotide substitutions at the same genomic location on chromosome 11 (g.61392563 [GRCh38]), 69 base pairs upstream of the start codon of the ciliopathy gene TMEM216 (c.−69G>A, c.−69G>T [GenBank: NM_001173991.3]), in individuals of South Asian and African ancestry, respectively. Genotypes included 71 homozygotes and 3 mixed heterozygotes in trans with a predicted loss-of-function allele. Haplotype analysis showed single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) common across families, suggesting ancestral alleles within the two distinct ethnic populations. Clinical phenotype analysis of 62 available individuals from 49 families indicated a similar clinical presentation with night blindness in the first decade and progressive peripheral field loss thereafter. No evident systemic ciliopathy features were noted. Functional characterization of these variants by luciferase reporter gene assay showed reduced promotor activity. Nanopore sequencing confirmed the lower transcription of the TMEM216 c.−69G>T allele in blood-derived RNA from a heterozygous carrier, and reduced expression was further recapitulated by qPCR, using both leukocytes-derived RNA of c.−69G>T homozygotes and total RNA from genome-edited hTERT-RPE1 cells carrying homozygous TMEM216 c.−69G>A. In conclusion, these variants explain a significant proportion of unsolved cases, specifically in individuals of African ancestry, suggesting that reduced TMEM216 expression might lead to abnormal ciliogenesis and photoreceptor degeneration. A new Co(II) complex, [Co(NCS)2(L)2] (1) has been synthesized based on levamisole (L) as a new ligand. Single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analyses confirm that the Co(II) ion is having a distorted tetrahedral coordination geometry in the complex. Notably strong intramolecular S⋅⋅⋅S and S⋅⋅⋅N interactions has been confirmed by employing Quantum Theory of Atoms in Molecules (QTAIM). These intramolecular interactions occur among the sulfur and nitrogen atoms of the levamisole ligands and also the nitrogen atoms of the thiocyanate. Direct current (dc) magnetic analyses reveal presence of zero field splitting (ZFS) and large magnetic anisotropy on Co(II). Detailed ab initio ligand field theory calculations quantitatively predicted the magnitude of ZFS. Prominent field‐induced single‐ion magnet (SIM) behavior was observed for 1 from dynamic magnetization measurements. Ascorbic acid (AA), known as vitamin C, is a vital bioactive compound that plays a crucial role in several metabolic processes, including the synthesis of collagen and neurotransmitters, the removal of harmful free radicals, and the uptake of iron by cells in the human intestines. As a result, there is an absolute need for a highly selective, sensitive, and economically viable sensing platform for AA detection. Herein, we demonstrate a Pt-decorated MoS2 for efficient detection of an AA biosensor. MoS2 hollow rectangular structures were synthesized using an easy and inexpensive chemical vapor deposition approach to meet the increasing need for a reliable detection platform. The synthesized MoS2 hollow rectangular structures are characterized through field effect scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy elemental mapping, Raman spectroscopy, and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. We fabricate a chemiresistive biosensor based on Pt-decorated MoS2 that measures AA with great precision and high sensitivity. The experiments were designed to evaluate the response of the Pt-decorated MoS2 biosensor in the presence and absence of AA, and selectivity was evaluated for a variety of biomolecules, and it was observed to be very selective towards AA. The Pt-MoS2 device had a higher response of 125% against 1 mM concentration of AA biomolecules, when compared to that of all other devices and 2.2 times higher than that of the pristine MoS2 device. The outcomes of this study demonstrate the efficacy of Pt-decorated MoS2 as a promising material for AA detection. Theoretical investigation on the space-time evolution of standing electron acoustic waves (EAWs) reveals the collisionless damping of these modes as they slowly lose phase-coherency because of phase-mixing. Finite ion inertia is the responsible factor behind phase-mixing of EAWs in an electron–ion plasma with hot and cold electrons. A simple perturbation analysis of the fluid-Maxwell's equations shows that phase-mixing can happen at arbitrary amplitudes. Our analysis also predicts the approximate time of phase-mixing. It is found that a larger proportion of the hot electrons increases the phase-mixing time, while on the other hand, a higher temperature of hot electrons decreases it. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a complex nosocomial infectious agent responsible for numerous illnesses, with its growing resistance variations complicating treatment development. Studies have emphasized the importance of virulence factors OprE and OprF in pathogenesis, highlighting their potential as vaccine candidates. In this study, B-cell, MHC-I, and MHC-II epitopes were identified, and molecular linkers were active to join these epitopes with an appropriate adjuvant to construct a vaccine. Computational tools were employed to forecast the tertiary framework, characteristics, and also to confirm the vaccine's composition. The potency was weighed through population coverage analysis and immune simulation. This project aims to create a multi-epitope vaccine to reduce P. aeruginosa –related illness and mortality using immunoinformatics resources. The ultimate complex has been determined to be stable, soluble, antigenic, and non-allergenic upon inspection of its physicochemical and immunological properties. Additionally, the protein exhibited acidic and hydrophilic characteristics. The Ramachandran plot, ProSA-web, ERRAT, and Verify3D were employed to ensure the final model's authenticity once the protein's three-dimensional structure had been established and refined. The vaccine model showed a significant binding score and stability when interacting with MHC receptors. Population coverage analysis indicated a global coverage rate of 83.40%, with the USA having the highest coverage rate, exceeding 90%. Moreover, the vaccine sequence underwent codon optimization before being cloned into the Escherichia coli plasmid vector pET-28a (+) at the EcoRI and EcoRV restriction sites. Our research has developed a vaccine against P. aeruginosa that has strong binding affinity and worldwide coverage, offering an acceptable way to mitigate nosocomial infections. This group comprises four families (Balanotaeniidae, Capingentidae, Caryophyllaeidae, Lytocestidae), 42 genera and approximately 130 described species. Additionally, over a hundred new taxa have been reported from India. While many of these taxa are endemic and have unique evolutionary importance, a considerable number of putative new taxa were also invalidated because the quality and reliability of the published data did not meet the requirements. Various researchers have synonymised 28 species into a single representative, Lytocestus indicus (Moghe, 1925) Woodland, 1926. Consequently, L. indicus was chosen as a model organism to investigate whether there is taxonomic inflation or hidden diversity. Newly collected specimens of L. indicus were subjected to various fixatives for morphological assessment, and hologenophores of the same were obtained to determine whether true variations exist in their genotype or if they are merely fixation-induced variations. Despite morphological variations associated with fixation, molecular data indicated that they were indeed the same specimens. The taxonomic status of 43 new taxa was critically evaluated, with most of them tentatively synonymised with L. indicus. Background and aims: Biliary atresia (BA) is a progressive fibro-obliterative cholangiopathy. The histopathological diagnosis is often challenging and an immunohistochemical marker is often sought as an adjunct. We evaluated MMP7 immunohistochemistry in BA and other non-BA pediatric cholestatic liver diseases. Materials and methods: MMP7 immunohistochemistry was applied in 5 age-matched normal control, 23 cases of BA and 43 cases of non-BA pediatric cholestasis including 16 cases of choledochal cyst (CC), and a multiplication score was obtained by multiplying the intensity and percentage positivity in the cholangiocytes. Results: BA showed a high mean MMP7 multiplication score which was significantly different from the normal control and other non-BA pediatric cholestatic diseases including CC (p value < 0.001). The sensitivity, specificity, positive, and negative predictive values of MMP7 immunohistochemistry were 91.3%, 93.02%, 87.5%, and 95.2% respectively. The biofilm formation by various pathogens causes chronic infections and poses severe threats to industry, healthcare, and society. They can form biofilm on surfaces of medical implants, heart valves, pacemakers, contact lenses, vascular grafts, urinary catheters, dialysis catheters, etc. These biofilms play a central role in bacterial persistence and antibiotic tolerance. Biofilm formation occurs in a series of steps, and any interference in these steps can prevent its formation. Therefore, the hunt to explore and develop effective anti-biofilm strategies became necessary to decrease the rate of biofilm-related infections. In this review, we highlighted and discussed the current therapeutic approaches to eradicate biofilm formation and combat drug resistance by anti-biofilm drugs, phytocompounds, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), antimicrobial lipids (AMLs), matrix-degrading enzymes, nanoparticles, phagebiotics, surface coatings, photodynamic therapy (PDT), riboswitches, vaccines, and antibodies. A Gram-negative, short-rod, non-motile, facultatively anaerobic, potassium-solubilizing bacterium MR1 (Mine Rhizosphere) was isolated from rhizospheric soil of an open-cast coal mine of Jharia, Jharkhand, India. Isolate MR1 can grow in a broad range of temperature, pH, and NaCl concentrations. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of the strain showed 99.24% similarity with Pantoea septica LMG 5345T. However, maximum-likelihood tree constructed using 16S rRNA gene sequence, multilocus sequence analysis using concatenated sequences of ten housekeeping genes, whole-genome based phylogenetic reconstruction, digital DNA–DNA hybridization, and average nucleotide identity (ANIm and ANIb) values indicated segregation of MR1 from its closest relatives. Fatty acid profile of MR1 also suggested the same, with clear variation in major and minor fatty acid contents, having C13:0 anteiso (10-Methyldodecanoic acid) as the unique one. Thus, considering all polyphasic data, strain MR1T (= MTCC 13265T, where 'T' stands for Type strain) is presented as a novel species of the genus Pantoea, for which the name Pantoea tagorei sp. nov. is proposed. Cells have evolved intricate mechanisms to detect and repair DNA damage, orchestrating a robust genotoxic stress response to safeguard the integrity of the genome. Recent research has shed light on the crucial role of co‐ and post‐transcriptional regulatory mechanisms in modulating the cellular response to genotoxic stress. Maize, being a nutritious and multipurpose crop requires proper nutrition (N, P, and K) and standardization of sowing time to enhance productivity and profitability under changing climate scenario. Therefore, a field experiment was conducted during monsoon season of 2021 and 2022 at agricultural farm, Lovely Professional University, Punjab, in split plot design with four fertilizer levels (125, 100, 75, and 50% recommended dose of fertilizers; RDF) in main plots and four sowing dates (15 and 30 of June and July) in subplots, replicated thrice. Maize sown on 30 June and fertilized with 125% RDF ensured higher growth attributes throughout crop growth. Besides, comparatively greater yield attributes as well as grain yield (8.22 t ha−1), stover yield (11.86 t ha−1), and harvest index (40.9%) were observed from that treatment combination, and it also recorded higher quality protein and nutrient uptakes but less residual soil fertility. Maize grown on 30 July under application of 50% RDF was the poorest yielder. Further, production economics and energy analysis showed similar trend and indicated that maize grown on 30 June under application of 125% RDF recorded maximum gross return (₹168275 ha−1), net return (₹109565 ha−1), and benefit-cost ratio (2.87) as well as energy output (269084 MJ ha−1) and net energy gain (250750.3 MJ ha−1).
