Many school administrators and music supervisors, when choosing among qualified finalists for a teaching position, hire candidates who demonstrate piano proficiency in addition to excellence in their area of expertise.

Many successful music students have supportive parents or guardians. These individuals can help make a music teacher's music program flourish. A solid teacher-parent relationship provides students with additional adult reinforcement at home. Parents and guardians can also offer the support needed to keep the program alive during difficult times. Communicating with parents involves more than once-a-semester conferences.
