Background: Tracheobronchial injuries generally occur due to iatrogenic or traumatic causes. Although bronchial rupture due to teratoma and germ cell tumors has been reported in the literature, no cases related to lung cancer have been determined. Our case is presented because of the refusal to be examined for the mass in the lung and the detection of bronchial rupture afterward when he presented with massive hemoptysis. Case presentation: A 65-year-old male patient was admitted to the emergency department with the complaint of massive hemoptysis. Six months ago, bronchoscopy was recommended due to the 8 × 7 cm cavitary lesion obliterating the bronchus in the anterior upper lobe of the right lung on chest computed tomography, but the patient refused. The sputum sample, requested 3 times, was negative for acid-resistant bacteria, and no growth was detected in the mycobacterial culture. In the new pulmonary CT angiography, a progressive cavitary lesion invading the right main bronchus, carina, and vena cava superior was observed. Following tranexamic acid treatment and bronchial artery embolization, hemoptysis significantly decreased in the follow-up. In the flexible bronchoscopy performed for diagnostic purposes, the carina was pushed to the left and invaded, and there was damage to the right main bronchus. A biopsy was not performed due to the risk of bleeding, and lavage was performed. Lavage was negative for ARB, there was no growth in the mycobacteria culture, and cytology did not reveal malignant cells. The patient, diagnosed with right main bronchial rupture, was considered inoperable and died 1 month later due to respiratory failure. Conclusions: Examinations should be initiated as soon as malignancy is suspected. When diagnosis and treatment are delayed, complications that would be challenging to intervene may develop. Lung cancer continues to be the third leading cause of cancer and the leading cause of cancer deaths. As the field of interventional oncology continues to grow, interventional radiologists are increasingly treating lung cancer patients. Involvement begins with tissue diagnosis for which biomarkers and immunohistochemistry are used to guide selective and advanced medical therapies. An interventional radiologist must be aware of the rationale behind tissue diagnosis and techniques to minimize biopsy complications. Staging is an important part of tumor board conversations and drives treatment pathways. Surgical therapy remains the gold standard for early-stage disease but with an aging population the need for less invasive treatments such as radiation therapy and ablation continue to grow. The interventionalist must be aware of the indications, techniques, and pre- and posttherapy managements for percutaneous ablation. Endovascular therapy is broadly divided into therapeutic treatment of lung cancer, which is gaining traction, and treatment of lung cancer complications such as hemoptysis. 41-year-old lady, known case of Takayasu arteritis with pulmonary arterial involvement, presented with multiple episodes of haemoptysis (maximum 50 mL) in a week. She had undergone descending thoracic aorta angioplasty and stenting 3 years ago due to uncontrolled hypertension, left ventricular systolic dysfunction and approximately 70% stenosis of descending thoracic aorta. This lady was treated with embolization of hypertrophied bronchial artery as well as left internal mammary artery branch for management of haemoptysis. Embolization of hypertrophied bronchial artery in the setting of Takayasu arteritis with pulmonary arterial involvement presenting with haemoptysis is rare. Hypertrophied bronchial artery detected in post stenting computed tomography raises suspicion whether descending thoracic aorta stenting promotes the hypertrophy of bronchial artery. Scimitar syndrome is a rare condition characterized by partial or complete anomalous pulmonary venous drainage of the lung to the inferior vena cava, right lung hypoplasia and dextroposition of the heart. Haemoptysis is uncommon in adults, although the clinical spectrum is wide. We report a case of a 38-year-old male with scimitar syndrome who had low grade haemoptysis persisting over several years secondary to bronchiectatic changes in his hypoplastic right lung. Conservative measures to manage haemoptysis were unsuccessful and the patient proceeded to bronchial artery embolization. The post-procedure course was complicated by lung infarction and the patient ultimately required pneumonectomy. Deformities of the blood vessels and lungs are complex in scimitar syndrome. Introduction: Hemoptysis is one of the most common symptoms of respiratory system diseases. Common causes include bronchiectasis, tumors, tuberculosis, aspergilloma, and cystic fibrosis. The severity of hemoptysis varies from mild to moderate to massive hemoptysis and can easily lead to hemodynamic instability and death from suffocation or shock. Nevertheless, the most threatening hemoptysis that is presented to the emergency department and requires hospitalization is the massive one. In these cases, today, the most common way to manage hemoptysis is bronchial artery embolization (BAE). Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed and Scopus from January 2017 (with the aim of selecting the newest possible reports in the literature) until May 2023 for studies reporting massive hemoptysis. All studies that included technical and clinical success rates of hemoptysis management, as well as rebleeding and mortality rates, were included. A proportional meta-analysis was conducted using a random-effects model. Results: Of the 30 studies included in this systematic review, 26 used bronchial artery embolization as a means of treating hemoptysis, with very high levels of both technical and clinical success (greater than 73.7% and 84.2%, respectively). However, in cases where it was not possible to use bronchial artery embolization, alternative methods were used, such as dual-vessel intervention (80% technical success rate and 66.7% clinical success rate), customized endobronchial silicone blockers (92.3% technical success rate and 92.3% clinical success rate), antifibrinolytic agents (50% clinical success rate), and percutaneous transthoracic embolization (93.1% technical success rate and 88.9% clinical success rate), which all had high success rates apart from antifibrinolytic agents. Of the 2467 patients included in these studies, 341 experienced rebleeding during the follow-up period, while 354 other complications occurred, including chest discomfort, fever, dysphagia, and paresis. A total of 89 patients died after an episode of massive hemoptysis or during the follow-up period. The results of the meta-analysis showed a pooled technical success of bronchial artery embolization equal to 97.22% and a pooled clinical success equal to 92.46%. The pooled recurrence was calculated to be 21.46%, while the mortality was 3.5%. These results confirm the ability of bronchial artery embolization in the treatment of massive hemoptysis but also emphasize the high rate of recurrence following the intervention, as well as the risk of death. Conclusion: In conclusion, massive hemoptysis can be treated with great clinical and technical success using bronchial artery embolization, reducing mortality. Background: Asymptomatic bronchial artery aneurysms (BAA) could be underdiagnosed, and the precise prevalence is unknown. Bronchial artery angiography revealed that this rare disease in about 1% of patients. BAA is fatal if ruptured since there is no correlation between the diameter and symptoms of the aneurysm and the risk of rupture. Early treatment on diagnosis is desirable. Bronchial artery embolization (BAE) is the first choice for treatment because of its minimally invasive nature. Case presentation: A 74-year-old man was referred to our department and pointed out a tumor-like lesion under the aortic arch on a contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT). We diagnosed it as a mediastinal BAA, and BAE was planned. The bronchial artery arising from the aorta showed strong atherosclerotic meanders and was difficult to engage, resulting in iatrogenic acute aortic dissection (AAD). Urgent thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) was performed. There was no contrast effect of the aneurysm on a postoperative CECT, indicating thrombotic occlusion. Conclusions: We were preparing a system that could convert to surgery or TEVAR, in case of difficult to treat with BAE or ruptured aneurysm during BAE, so we were able to respond quickly to aortic dissection caused by BAE and obtain a good result of both BAA and aortic dissection. TEVAR would be considered a treatment of BAA, in cases such as the present case, where engagement is difficult, where the length of the inflow artery is short, or where the inflow artery is tortuous. To investigate whether pre-procedure Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) improves radiation exposure, procedure complexity, and symptom recurrence after bronchial embolization for massive hemoptysis. A single-center retrospective review of bronchial artery embolization (BAE) for massive hemoptysis was performed for procedures between 2008 and 2019. Multi-variate analysis was performed to determine the significance of pre-procedure CTA and etiology of hemoptysis on patient radiation exposure (reference point air kerma, RPAK) and rate of recurrent hemoptysis. There were 61 patients (mean age 52.5 years; SD = 19.2 years, and 57.3% male) and CTA was obtained for 42.6% (26/61). Number of vessels selected was a mean of 7.2 (SD = 3.4) in those without CTA and 7.4 (SD = 3.4) in those with CTA (p = 0.923). Mean procedure duration was 1.8 h (SD = 1.6 h) in those without CTA and 1.3 h (SD = 1.0 h) in those with CTA (p = 0.466). Mean fluoroscopy time and RPAK per procedure were 34.9 min (SD = 21.5 min) and 1091.7 mGy (SD = 1316.6 mGy) for those without a CTA and 30.7 min (SD = 30.7 min) and 771.5 mGy (SD = 590.0 mGy) for those with a CTA (p = 0.523, and p = 0.879, respectively). Mean total iodine given was 49.2 g (SD = 31.9 g) for those without a CTA and 70.6 g (SD = 24.9 g) for those with a CTA (p = 0.001). Ongoing hemoptysis at last clinical follow up was 13/35 (37.1%) in those without CTA and 9/26 (34.6%) in those with CTA (p = 0.794). Background: We investigated the efficacy and safety of bronchial artery embolization (BAE) using a 5F JL4 catheter in patients with hemoptysis and a bronchial artery opening in the inferior wall of the aortic arch. Methods: This was a single-center retrospective study. Seventeen patients underwent BAE using 5F JL4. We then evaluated technical success (TS), clinical success (CS), incidence of complications, and hemoptysis recurrence rate (RR). Results: The TS rate of microcatheter superselective catheterization and CS rate after surgery were 100%, and the incidence of severe complications and postoperative RR were 17.6%. Conclusions: Bronchial artery embolization for hemoptysis with a BA opening in the inferior wall of the aortic arch using the 5F JL4 catheter could be a safe method. Bronchial artery embolization is minimally invasive, has a low complication rate, and achieves good hemorrhage control. It is the first-line treatment in hemoptysis patients whom medications are ineffective. Cerebral infarction is a rare complication of bronchial artery embolization, with posterior circulation infarcts being the most common. Possible mechanisms include a neurotoxic reaction to the contrast medium used, bronchial artery-pulmonary shunt, embolus formation, fistula formation between the bronchial artery and the cerebral artery, and so on. To the best of our knowledge, there have been relatively few reports regarding posterior circulation infarcts after BAE, including 14 cases shown in Table 1. 11 patients recovered well after medical treatment, while the other patients did not survive. We report a case of a patient with a large posterior circulation infarct post bronchial artery embolization who developed severe neurological symptoms and died after 3 months of medication. Background: Hemoptysis is a severe complication of cystic fibrosis (CF) for which bronchial artery embolization (BAE) is an efficient primary therapeutic option. However, recurrence is more frequent than for other etiologies of hemoptysis. Purpose: To assess the safety and efficacy of BAE in patients with CF and hemoptysis and predictive factors for recurrent hemoptysis Material and Methods: This retrospective study reviewed all adult patients with CF treated by BAE for hemoptysis in our center from 2004 to 2021. The primary endpoint was the recurrence of hemoptysis after bronchial artery embolization. Secondary endpoints were overall survival and complications. We introduced the vascular burden (VB) defined as the sum of all bronchial artery diameters measured on pre-procedural enhanced computed tomography (CT) scans. Results: A total of 48 BAE were performed in 31 patients. A total of 19 recurrences occurred with a median recurrence-free survival of 3.9 years. In univariate analyzes, percentage of unembolized VB (%UVB) (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.034, 95% confidence interval [CI=1.016–1.052; P < 0.001) and %UVB vascularizing the suspected bleeding lung (%UVB-lat) (HR = 1.024, 95% CI=1.012–1.037; P < 0.001) were associated with recurrence. In multivariate analyzes, only %UVB-lat remained significantly associated with recurrence (HR = 1.020, 95% CI=1.002–1.038; P = 0.030). One patient died during follow-up. No complication of grade 3 or higher was reported according to the CIRSE classification system for complications. Conclusion: When possible, unilateral BAE seems sufficient in patients with CF with hemoptysis even in such a diffuse disease involving both lungs. Objective: Bronchial artery embolization (BAE) now serves as the standard treatment for hemoptysis. The aim of this study was to determine the characteristics and outcomes of the patients who undergo BAE during the coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic period. Methods: We retrospectively investigated patients that presented to the hospital with hemoptysis and received bronchial arterial embolization treatment during the pandemic period. Age, gender, history of previous diseases, and related data were collected. Results: The study was conducted with 11 patients whose 18.18% (n=2) were female and 81.81% (n=9) were male. The mean age of the patients is 61.27±10.94 and they stayed in hospital 21.18±19.59 days on average. Infection and bronchiectasis were seen as the leading cause of hemorhagee. Also, alveolar hemorrhage seen 81.8% (n=9) of the patients. Dilated bronchial arteries were seen on 72.7% (n=8) of the patients. Although 54.5% (n=6) of the patients admitted to the intensive care unit after the procedure, no complication or mortality seen in any patient during the procedure. Conclusion: Bronchial arterial embolization is an effective minimally invasive technique for treating hemoptysis. This invasive procedure could be applied safely during the pandemic period. Background: Embolization of the bronchial artery is one of the non-surgical successful measures to treat hemoptysis without surgery. Aim of the Work: To evaluate the technique, efficacy, and safety of Bronchial Artery Embolization (BAE) in patients with hemoptysis due to cavitary lung lesions. Patients and Methods: This study was a reconstructive (retrospective and prospective) cohort study and included 20 candidates who presented with hemoptysis due to cavitary lung lesions and were refractory to the supportive treatment measures during the period between March 2021 and September 2021. The study population was referred from the Chest Department to Interventional Radiology Unit, at Ain Shams University Hospitals. Results: Massive hemoptysis was seen in 15 patients and recurrent mild-moderate in 5 patients. On imaging, cavitary lesions were seen on the left side in 8 patients, the right side in 8 patients, and bilateral involvement in 4 patients. Bronchiectatic changes were the predominant pathology seen in 6 patients. Immediate success was achieved in 20 patients, while recurrence within one month was noted in 4 patients. 13 patients reported experiencing minor problems like chest pain, but no serious ones like spinal cord ischemia. Objectives This article evaluates the immediate success, recurrence rate, complications, and the culprit vessel of bronchial artery embolization (BAE) in patients presenting with hemoptysis. Materials and Methods All patients who underwent BAE from July 1, 2018 to August 31, 2021 were included. BAE was done for moderate to severe hemoptysis or for mild hemoptysis which was recurrent and not controlled by medical management. Patients referred for surgical intervention and hemoptysis controlled on medical management were excluded. Results One hundred and thirty patients underwent BAE in the study period. Mean age was 41.5 years and majority (73.1%) was male. Forty-three (33.1%) patients had mild, 46 (35.4%) had moderate, and 41 (31.5%) with the duration of symptoms ranging from 3 days to 25 years. Most common culprit vessel was posterior intercostal artery closely followed by the intercostobronchial artery. Hypervascularity was the most common angiographic abnormality encountered. On an average, 2.75 vessels were embolized per BAE with a wide range of 1 to 8 vessels. Hemoptysis control was seen in 96.1% patients immediately, 90.7 % at 1 month, 82.3 % at 3 months, and 66.9 % at 6 months. Overall recurrence was seen in 43 patients (33.1%). Chest pain was the most common minor side effect occurring in 77.1% cases. Conclusion BAE is a safe and effective procedure that can be performed routinely in patients presenting with moderate to massive hemoptysis or with mild hemoptysis refractory to medical management. The introduction of CFTR modulator drugs like elexacaftor-tezacaftor-ivacaftor (ETI) has transformed the management of cystic fibrosis (CF), significantly improving symptoms, lung function, and quality of life, while reducing reliance on intravenous antibiotics. However, respiratory exacerbations in the CFTR modulators era remain poorly understood from both pathophysiological and clinical perspectives. We present the case of a 20-year-old Caucasian woman with CF (F508del/L1077P) who, after three years of ETI treatment, experienced a severe episode of hemoptysis, despite being almost asymptomatic in the weeks leading up to admission, requiring bronchial artery embolization. Following ETI treatment, auscultatory findings and FEV 1 changes may be less significant, making the detection of respiratory exacerbation more challenging. This highlights the need for heightened vigilance in managing such cases and underscores the challenge of diagnosing and managing exacerbations in the era of modulators. Hemoptysis is a common clinical emergency, bronchial arterial embolization is considered to be an effective treatment. The presence of coronary artery—bronchial artery fistula (CBF) may lead to recurrence of hemoptysis after treatment. It is necessary to investigate the imaging characteristics of a CBF and its correlation with the severity of pulmonary disease. With the development of multi-detector computed tomography, our study used the 320-slice CT bronchial artery angiography technology to observe and visualize blood vessels. The image and clinical data of 2015 hemoptysis patients with 320-slice CT bronchial artery angiography were retrospectively reviewed from January 2015 to December 2019. The axial and three-dimensional CT images were analyzed. The incidence, anatomical characteristics of CBF and pulmonary disease severity score were evaluated. A total of 12 CBF vessels were detected in 11 patients. We found that the incidence of CBF in this group was 0.55% (11/2015). Mean CBF diameter was 1.9 mm (1.2–2.5 mm). The course of CBF usually was relatively fixed. The proportions of CBF originated from the left circumflex artery, right coronary artery, and left anterior descending artery were 75%, 16.7% and 8.3%, respectively. Preliminarily analysis of the correlation between the trend of CBF and the pulmonary diseases severity score showed that CBF was more likely to communicate with a bronchial artery on the side with a higher severity score. CBF may occur in patients with chronic pulmonary disease and hemoptysis, and its origin, course and trend are characteristic. BACKGROUND AND AIM: The aim of this study is to evaluate the etiology, length of stay, treatment modality and treatment success in patients who underwent bronchoscopy due to massive hemoptysis. METHODS: The study is a cross-sectional study and was carried out with 148 patients who were transferred to our center with the complaint of massive hemoptysis between January 1, 2018 and January 1, 2021. RESULTS: The average age of the study group is 55.64±17.54. 71.6% of the patients in the study group were male. Etiological causes of patients with massive hemoptysis who underwent bronchoscopy were determined as bronchiectasis, lung cancer, tuberculosis, arterio-venous malformation and aspergilloma, respectively. The patients underwent 64.9% bronchial artery embolization (BAE), 29.7% medical treatment and 5.4% surgical treatment. The average length of stay in the intensive care unit is 4.66 days, while the length of stay in the service is 3.51 days. Relapse was seen in 9.45% of patients after BAE. The mean time to recurrence was 137.28 days. It was determined that hemoptysis recurred under 90 days in 8 cases and over 90 days in 6 cases. The success rate of BAE treatment was 90.55% and no mortal complications were observed. CONCLUSIONS: Massive hemoptysis is a life-threatening and urgent condition. Maintaining airway patency and controlling bleeding is a priority. We think that the patient should be hospitalized and followed up in the intensive care unit, contrast-enhanced thorax computed tomography and bronchoscopy should be performed in the rapid diagnosis process, BAE should be preferred first in the treatment, and surgical and other treatments should be applied if necessary. A 64‐year‐old man presented to the emergency department with a chief complaint of epigastric pain that improved with vomiting. He was initially treated for gastrointestinal disease, but computed tomography (CT) showed a mediastinal haematoma and contrast‐enhanced CT and bronchial arteriography showed a bronchial aneurysm. Bronchial artery aneurysm is a rare but potentially life‐threatening condition that can lead to haemorrhagic shock if it ruptures. Bronchial artery (BA) pseudoaneurysm is an uncommon vascular complication of tuberculosis (TB), and early diagnosis is crucial due to risk of rupture and life-threatening hemorrhage. Immediate intervention is warranted in massive hemoptysis due to high mortality. Various causes of massive hemoptysis are TB, bronchiectasis, aspergilloma, lung abscess, lung cancer, necrotizing pneumonia, and cystic fibrosis. Active pulmonary TB as well as chronic pulmonary TB can manifest with massive hemoptysis. Hemoptysis in active TB occurs due to ulceration in bronchiolar wall, eroding the wall of the adjacent BA or pulmonary artery, and in chronic TB due to hypertrophied bronchial arteries, or bronchiectasis, or aspergilloma. Herein, we report a case of pulmonary TB causing intrapulmonary BA pseudoaneurysm in a young male patient who presented with acute massive hemoptysis. Background: The present study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety profiles of microspheres versus (vs.) polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) for bronchial artery embolization (BAE) treatment in patients with hemoptysis.Methods: Totally, 152 patients with hemoptysis who were about to receive BAE treatment were consecutively enrolled and divided into microspheres group (N = 62) and PVA group (N = 90). Technical success and clinical success were assessed after BAE procedure, and the hemoptysis-recurrence status, survival status and adverse events were recorded during follow-up.Results: Technical success rates were both 100% in microspheres group and PVA group; clinical success rate (96.8% vs. 100.0%, P = 0.165), 6-month (9.7% vs. 7.8%, P = 0.681) and 1-year (9.7% vs. 8.9%, P = 0.869) hemoptysis recurrence rate, 6-month (4.8% vs. 2.2%, P = 0.374) and 1-year (4.8% vs. 3.3%, P = 0.639) mortality were similar between microspheres group and PVA group. Furthermore, hemoptysis-free survival (P = 0.488) and overall survival (P = 0.321) were of no difference between two groups. In addition, all adverse events were mild, and there was no difference of adverse events between two groups (all P > 0.05). These data were validated by further multivariate regression analysis.Conclusions: Microspheres present comparable efficacy and safety profiles compared with PVA for the BAE treatment in patients with hemoptysis, providing evidence for embolic agent selection. Endobronchial resection using a bronchoscope is often selected as treatment for carcinoid tumors located in the central airways. However, massive bleeding is one of the most serious complications during bronchoscopic surgery. Here, we report the case of a 77-year-old female with a typical carcinoid tumor located in the right truncus intermedius who underwent bronchial artery embolization (BAE) one day before endobronchial intervention using a flexible bronchoscope. Objective: We aimed to evaluate retrospectively the data of patients undergoing bronchial artery embolizatıon (BAE) for massive or non-massive hemoptysis in our clinic and discussed with the literature. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively evaluated patients with acute severe or chronic recurrent hemoptysis admitted to the pulmonology department and submitted to BAE for the purpose of embolization. Results: A total of 52 patients were submitted to BAE, 41 (78.8%) were male, with a mean age 53.7±14.8 years. Hemoptysis was considered severe in 22 (42.3%) patients. Bronchiectasis (other than cystic fibrosis) (n=12; 23.1%) and tuberculosis (TB) sequelae (n=11; 21.2) were the major etiology for hemoptysis. None of our patients developed early or late complications related to the procedure. Hemoptysis recurred in five patients at 12-month follow-up of each patient. There was no significant difference between the amount of hemoptysis and the presence of lesion on computed tomography, active bleeding on bronchoscopy or recurrence. Conclusion: Bronchiectasis (except those associated with cystic fibrosis), TB, and TB sequelae were the major etiologies for hemoptysis. Background: While most previous studies have viewed tranexamic acid as a bridging or temporary therapy, our preliminary study offers insights into the combined therapy of antifibrinolytic agent with endovascular treatment for hemoptysis.Purpose: To investigate the feasibility and safety of combined therapy, to analyze factors affecting the outcomes of combined therapy, and to compare the effectiveness of combined therapy between groups with different etiologies.Material and Methods: Between January 2011 and December 2014, 64 patients (33 men, mean age 64.6 years) underwent combined therapy for hemoptysis. The median follow-up time was 14.7 months (range 174-2435 days). Patients were divided into a tuberculosis group (GroupTB, n=37) and a non-tuberculosis group (Groupnon-TB, n=27).Results: Embolotherapy was technically successful in 62/64 (96.9%) cases. The immediate clinical success rate was 96.8% (60/62). The short-term and long-term recurrence rates were 12.9% (n=8) and 19.4% (n=12), respectively. The one-, two-, and four-year recurrence-free survival rates were 61%, 49%, and 32%, respectively. There was no significant survival difference between the two groups. Suboptimal embolization was a significant risk factor for immediate clinical failure (odds ratio 29.624, P = 0.023). Optimal embolization (hazard ratio [HR] 0.199, P = 0.023) and older age (HR 0.956, P = 0.013) were significantly associated with lower recurrence risk.Conclusion: Combined therapy is an effective and safe treatment modality for hemoptysis of various etiologies, with potential benefits for short-term recurrence vis-a-vis current literature evidence. Purpose: To evaluate the influence of ectopic origin of bronchial arteries (BAs) on bronchial artery embolization (BAE) for hemoptysis. Methods: CT and angiography images of 50 consecutive sessions in 39 patients (aged 26–93 years; mean, 70.6 years) who underwent BAE for hemoptysis from April 2010 to December 2019 were reviewed. We defined ectopic BA as a systemic artery originating from other than the T5–T6 vertebral level of the descending aorta with course along the major bronchi. The background of patients, number of BAs, culprit arteries, and treatment outcomes were compared between the cases with and without ectopic BAs. Results: Seventeen patients (43.6%) demonstrated 19 ectopic BAs, originating from the subclavian artery (n = 7), aortic arch above the T5–T6 level (n = 6), internal mammary artery (n = 3), brachiocephalic trunk (n = 2) or lower descending thoracic aorta (n = 1). Total number of BAs in the cases with ectopic BA was significantly greater than those in cases without ectopic BA (p = 0.0062). Required sessions of embolization were similar in the two groups. No procedure-related significant complications were noted; however, four ectopic BAs caused unexpected filling of contrast media or migration of the embolic material from the orthotopic BA to ectopic BA originating from the arch vessels via tiny communication. Conclusion: Although BAE under the presence of ectopic BA is feasible and safe, detection of BAs with ectopic origin, even of small diameter, is needed to avoid risk of non-target coursing of embolic materials. Background: There is no study on the predictive factors of recurrent haemoptysis after bronchial artery embolization (BAE) with the long-term outcomes in patients with bronchiectasis (BE). Objectives: To evaluate the long-term outcomes of BAE in BE patients without accompanying refractory active infection of mycobacteriosis and aspergillosis with analysis for the predictive factors of recurrent haemoptysis. Methods: Data of 106 patients with BE who underwent BAE using coils between January 2011 and December 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. The cumulative haemoptysis control rate was estimated using Kaplan-Meier methods with log-rank tests to analyze differences in recurrence-free rate between groups based on technical success and failure, bacterial colonization status, number of BE lesions, and vessels embolized to bronchial arteries (BAs) or BAs + non-bronchial systemic arteries (NBSAs). Results: Bacterial colonization was detected in approximately 60% of patients. Computed tomography showed bronchiectatic lesions with 2.9 ± 1.4 lobes. In the first series of BAE, embolization was performed in the BAs alone and BAs + NBSAs in 65.1 and 34.9% of patients, respectively, with 2.4 ± 1.4 embolized vessels in total. The median follow-up period was 1,000 (7–2,790) days. The cumulative haemoptysis control rates were 91.3, 84.2, 81.5, and 78.9% at 1, 2, 3, and 5 years, respectively. The haemoptysis control rates were higher in the technical success group than in the technical failure group (p = 0.029). Conclusions: High haemoptysis control rates for long-term periods were obtained by embolization for all visualized abnormal arteries, regardless of the colonization status, number of bronchiectatic lobes, and target vessels, irrespective of NBSAs. Objective To observe the success rate of Cobra combined with Yashiro catheters in bronchial artery embolization(BAE). Methods 70 patients who underwent Cobra catheter BAE from January 2015 to January 2017 and 56 patients who underwent BAE with Cobra and Yashiro catheters from February 2017 to December 2019 were included in this retrospective study. The imaging characteristics and detection of responsible blood vessels on arteriography, procedure-and recovery-related indicators, effect of BAE, incidence of complications, rate of recurrent hemoptysis within 3 months after BAE were compared.Results In 56 patients with combined Cobra and Yashiro catheter BAE, 207 responsible bronchial arteries were detected, including133 with Cobra catheters and 74 with Yashiro catheters. The total effective rate of embolization was higher and the procedure time was longer, whereas the fluoroscopy and hospitalization time was shorter in the combined catheter group than that in the single catheter group. The difference was statistically significant( P < 0. 05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of complications between the two groups( P >0.05). At the 3-month follow-up, the rate of recurrent hemoptysis was significantly lower in the combined than that in the single catheter group(P<0.05). Conclusion Cobra combined with Yashiro catheter arteriography can significantly improve the detection of bronchial arteries and increase the success rate of BAE. Objective: To investigate the clinical value of D-dimer and fibrinogen levels in predicting the clinical efficacy and prognosis of bronchial artery embolization in the treatment of bronchiectasis with massive hemoptysis. Methods: 50 patients with massive hemoptysis due to bronchiectasis treated in our hospital from November 2011 to November 20 16 were selected for the study, all patients underwent bronchial artery embolization. According to the results of clinical evaluation criteria, the patients were divided into total effective group (n=40) and ineffective group (n= 10). Following up for 1 year, the patients were divided into good prognosis group (n= 38) and poor prognosis group (n=l 2) according to the recurrence of prognosis. D-dirner and fibrinogen levels in total effective group and ineffective group, good prognosis group and poor prognosis group were compared respectively, the predictive value of D-dimer and fibrinogen in patients with massive hernoptysis due to bronchiectasis were analyzed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results: D-dirner and fibrinogen levels in the total effective group and the ineffective group after operation were higher than those before operation, and the total effective group were higher than the ineffective group (P<0.05). D-dimer and fibrinogen levels in the good prognosis group and poor prognosis group after operation were higher than those before operation, and the good prognosis group were higher than the poor prognosis group (P<0.05). ROC curve showed that both D-dimer and fibrinogen had high sensitivity and specificity inpatients with massive hemoptysis due to bronchiectasis, the areas under the curve were 0.725 and 0.806 respectively. Conclusion: The D-dimer and fibrinogen levels in patients with massive hemoptysis due to bronchiectasis treated by bronchial artery embolization are higher, and their sensitivity and specificity are higher, which has certain clinical predictive value. Massive hemoptysis is a medical emergency with high mortality presenting several difficult diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. The origin of bleeding and underlying etiology often is not immediately apparent, and techniques for management of this dangerous condition necessitate an expedient response. Unlike hemorrhage in other circumstances, a small amount of blood can rapidly flood the airways, thereby impairing oxygenation and ventilation, leading to asphyxia and consequent cardiovascular collapse. Of paramount importance is early control of the patient's airway and immediate isolation of hemorrhage in an attempt to localize and control bleeding. A coordinated team response is essential to guarantee the best chances of patient survival. Prompt control of the airway and steps to limit the spread of hemorrhage take precedence. Bronchial artery embolization, rigid and flexible bronchoscopy, and surgery all serve as potential treatment options to provide definitive control of hemorrhage. Several adjunctive therapies described in recent years may also assist in the control of bleeding; however, their role is less defined in life-threatening hemoptysis and warrants additional studies. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and outcome of BAE in hemoptysis patients. Selective bronchial artery embolization (BAE) is a minimally invasive treatment method developed alternative to surgery for acute recurrent hemoptysis. Material and Methods: The data of patients who underwent BAE with hemoptysis was collected retrospectively. The etiology of hemoptysis, localization and type of lesion, embolizing agent used and postoperative complications were recorded. Lesions were classified as pathological hypervascularity, arteriovenous fistula (AVF) and extravasation. Results: A total of 17 patients were included in this study. The most common underlying cause for hemoptysis was tuberculosis (% 40). Embolizing agents used were microspheres in 13 patients, n-BCA iodized oil mixture in 2 patients, polyvinyl alcohol particles in 1 patient and vascular plug in 1 patient. In the first 30 days after the procedures, bleeding completely stopped in 94,2% of the cases. Four patients (1 on 3rd day, 3 in 15-19 months) required re-embolization. Bronchial artery embolization was performed only once in 13 patients (76.4%), twice-in three patients (17.6%) and 3 times in 1 patient (5.8%). Purpose: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of bronchial artery embolization (BAE) using a gelatin sponge for hemoptysis from pulmonary aspergilloma and compare them with treatment outcomes for hemoptysis from other diseases.Methods: Fifty-two patients underwent BAE using a gelatin sponge. The etiology of hemoptysis was pulmonary aspergilloma in 8 (PA group) and other diseases in 44 (control group). The technical success rate, clinical success rate, hemoptysis-free rate, and complication rate were compared between the PA group and control group. Technical success was defined as the complete cessation of the targeted feeding artery as confirmed by digital subtraction angiography, and clinical success as the cessation of hemoptysis within 24 h of BAE. Recurrent hemoptysis was defined as a single or multiple episodes of hemoptysis causing > 30 ml of bleeding per day.Results: Technical and clinical success rates were 100% in both groups. Hemoptysis-free rates were 85% at 6 months and 72% at 12-60 months in the control group, and 38% at 6-12 months and 25% thereafter in the PA group (P = 0.0009). No complications were observed following BAE in any case in the two groups.Conclusion: BAE using a gelatin sponge may not be effective for hemoptysis from pulmonary aspergilloma. Objectives: Managing hemoptysis in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension can be challenging due to the difficulties in maintaining coagulation homeostasis in affected patients. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of bronchial artery embolization in treating hemoptysis in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension patients.Design: Pilot, prospective cohort study.Setting: A large respiratory medical institute.Patients: From January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2017, hospitalized chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension patients were eligible for inclusion. Patients with pulmonary hypertension caused by other conditions, or who failed to participate in the follow-up were excluded.Interventions: Hemoptysis in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension patients was treated with or without bronchial artery embolization based on whether the bleeding could be stopped with medication alone and patient willingness for bronchial artery embolization treatment.Measurements and Main Results: A total of 328 patients diagnosed with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension were consecutively collected, 317 patients were completed the follow-up. There were 15 chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension patients with hemoptysis in total, and the occurrence rate of hemoptysis in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension patients was 4.7%. Among the hemoptysis chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension patients, 10 (67%) underwent bronchial artery embolization, and five (33%) were treated with medication only. The median follow-up period for hemoptysis patients was 7.6 months. In patients underwent bronchial artery embolization treatment, oxygenation index and right heart function showed no significant difference between pre bronchial artery embolization and post bronchial artery embolization. Hemoptysis relapse (20% vs 80%; p = 0.025) and hemoptysis-related mortality (0% vs 40%; p = 0.032) were significantly lower, whereas the overall survival (90% vs 40%; p = 0.040) was higher in patients treated with bronchial artery embolization than in patients treated without bronchial artery embolization.Conclusions: Bronchial artery embolization procedure demonstrated effectiveness and safety to treat hemoptysis in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension patients at our center, but further controlled studies are needed before it can be considered as an effective therapy for these patients. We report the case of a 44-year old male patient with bicuspid aortic valve, presenting with hemoptysis. Catheter angiography revealed an abnormal communication between bronchial and pulmonary artery, which remained undetected on computed tomography angiography. Angioembolization was done using polyvinyl alcohol and gelfoam particles. This is the first case in literature describing bronchial arteriovenous malformation associated with bicuspid aortic valve. Purpose: The right bronchial artery usually arises from the descending thoracic aorta as a common trunk with the right intercostal artery and forms the right intercostobronchial trunk. Both, the third right posterior intercostal artery and the right intercostobronchial trunk, are described as the most constant vessels. The focus of the study was to determine the characteristics of the right intercostobronchial trunk regarding the origins of the posterior intercostal arteries from the thoracic aorta.Methods: Posterior intercostal arteries and the right bronchial arteries were dissected in 43 human cadavers, preserved after Thiel’s embalming method with intraarterial infusion of red colored latex.Results: Postmortem examination gave valued information on the right intercostobronchial trunk present in 58% of cases. The right intercostobronchial trunk was mapped and new classification regarding the origin of the posterior intercostal arteries from the thoracic aorta suggested type A, B and C, the latter ones into subtypes 1 and 2. Type A was proportional to the origin level of the PIA and its corresponding intercostal space. Size of outer diameter at the origin did not indicate the right bronchial artery branch. In subtype 2 of type B the proximal posterior intercostal artery diameter that gave off right bronchial artery was thicker than distal one.Conclusions: The right bronchial artery originates from the second to the fifth posterior intercostal artery forming the right intercostobronchial trunk. Various origin and types of origin, diameter and course of the right intercostobronchial trunk described and analyzed in the study offer valuable information on the procedures involving the right intercostobronchial trunk. Hemoptysis is sometimes observed in lung cancer patients and can be life-threatening. We present a case with severe hemoptysis that was resolved by bronchial artery embolization (BAE) followed by surgery. The presence of necrotic tissue in the majority of the resected tumor and only few cancer cells was presumed to be from loss of bronchial artery blood flow. Although BAE is not a standard therapy for lung cancer, it can be useful and may be considered by physicians as one of the treatment options prior to surgical resection in cases with hemoptysis. Purpose: Comparison of radiation doses in patients undergoing angiographic bronchial artery embolization (BAE) before and after a noise reduction imaging technology upgrade.Methods: We performed a retrospective study of 70 patients undergoing BAE. Procedures were performed before (n=32) and after (n=38) the technology upgrade containing additional filters and improved image-processing. Cumulative air kerma (AK), cumulative dose area product (DAP), number of exposure frames, total fluoroscopy time and amount of contrast agent were recorded. Mean values were calculated and compared using two-tailed t-tests. DSA image quality was assessed independently by two blinded readers and compared using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test.Results: Using the new technology resulted in a significant reduction of 59% in DAP (149.2 (103.1-279.1) vs. 54.8 (38.2-100.7) Gy*cm2, p<0.001) and a significant reduction of 60% for AK (1.3 (0.6-1.9) vs. 0.5 (0.3-0.9) Gy, p<0.001) in comparison to procedures before the upgrade. There was no significant difference between the number of exposure frames in both groups (251±181 vs. 254±133 frames, p=0.07), time of fluoroscopy (28.8 (18.5-50.4) vs. 28.1 (23.3-38.7) min, p=0.73), or the amount of contrast agent used (139.5±70.8 vs. 163.1±63.1ml, p=0.11). No significant difference regarding image quality could be detected (3 (2,3) vs. 3 (2-4), p=0.64).Conclusions: The new angiographic noise reduction technology significantly decreases the radiation dose during bronchial artery embolization without compromising image quality or increasing time of fluoroscopy or contrast volume. Background: Hemoptysis can cause a life-threatening condition and often needs to be treated urgently. Nearly 20% of hemoptysis cases are diagnosed as cryptogenic after clinical investigation. The purpose of this study was to clarify the clinical and angiographic characteristics of cryptogenic hemoptysis.Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 35 patients admitted to our hospital with cryptogenic hemoptysis from October 2010 to September 2014.Results: In the 35 cases, bronchial artery embolization was successfully performed in 33 patients (94.3%), whereas bronchoscopic hemostatic therapy was added in one patient (2.8%), and embolization was not performed in one patient (2.8%) because the bronchial artery was too narrow. In the successful embolization group, the non-rebleeding rate was 97.0% for 20 months. The angiographic findings revealed that the diameter of the bronchial arteries was < 2 mm in 13 patients, 2 to 3 mm in 17 patients, and > 3 mm in five patients. Hypervascularization was detected in 29 patients (82.9%) and small bronchial aneurysms in eight patients (22.9%). The amount of hemoptysis was slight (< 50 mL/d) in 12, mild (50-100 mL/d) in 11, moderate (100-200 mL/d) in eight, and massive (> 200 mL/d) in four patients. No obvious relationship was found between the diameter of bronchial arteries and the amount of hemoptysis.Conclusions: BAE was highly effective for the management of cryptogenic hemoptysis. Aspergillomas are fungal balls developing in pre-existing lung cavities, which are most commonly secondary to tuberculosis. Aspergillomas can cause hemoptysis due to erosion of the blood vessels in cavity walls, which can often be recurrent, massive, and life-threatening. Bronchial artery embolization is considered to be the treatment of choice for short-term control of hemoptysis, and lobectomy as the definitive treatment for aspergilloma. We present a unique observation in two cases of aspergilloma where the fungal balls disappeared radiologically after bronchial artery embolization performed for massive hemoptysis. Background and Aims Hemoptysis in children is a rare but potentially life-threatening symptom of an underlying respiratory tract abnormality. Hemoptysis, when massive and untreated, has a mortality rate of more than 50%. With interventional radiological procedures and surgery, this rate has dropped to 7%-18%. The experience with bronchial arterial embolization in childhood is very limited; only a few case reports with short-term follow-up have been reported. Methods We report herein two patients with massive hemoptysis due to abnormal systemic arterial bleeding of the lung; neither patient had any lung or systemic disease. In both cases, the bleeding was controlled with endovascular embolization. The first case had bronchopulmonary arterial anastomosis and represents the first reported case with this anomaly. The second case had recurrent massive hemoptysis due to bronchial artery bleeding, and repeat embolization was performed. Results Both of these children had rare vascular anomalies without parenchymal lung disease and were treated successfully with bronchial arterial embolization. Conclusion Massive hemoptysis due to abnormal systemic bleeding of the lung in the absence of parenchymal disease is an uncommon and severe symptom in childhood. Osler-Weber-Rendu disease, also known as hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, is a rare autosomal dominant condition causing systemic fibrovascular dysplasia. It has an incidence of 1-2/100,000. Phenotypic variation is extreme ranging from asymptomatic to severely symptomatic, from cases with no or few mucocutaneous lesions to those with diffuse cutaneous telangiectasia. We discuss a case of Osler-Weber-Rendu disease causing diffuse cutaneous telangiectasia and hemoptysis. The patient presented with complaints of hemoptysis and was extensively examined and investigated before being diagnosed with Osler-Weber-Rendu disease. We successfully managed the patient's hemoptysis by bronchial artery embolization. This case emphasizes the need for careful examination and investigation and to consider such rare diseases when all the common causes of hemoptysis are ruled out. Background: Bronchial artery embolization (BAE) is an established, safe, and effective procedure for the treatment of hemoptysis but long-term outcomes of the BAE have never been investigated before. Objectives: To retrospectively analyze long-term outcomes of the BAE. A total of 58 patients were identified from the database. Eight patients were excluded due to the lack of follow-up. Data such as patient demographics, reason for hemoptysis, medical imaging results, bronchoscopy findings, recurrence rates, and morbidity/mortality rates after the BAE were collected. Results: Eighty three embolizations were performed in 50 patients. The median follow-up was of 2.2 years. Cystic fibrosis (CF) bronchiectasis was the most common etiology (21/50), followed by non-CF bronchiectasis (9/50). Cavitary lung disease occurred in 12/50 patients, an additional 4/50 had cancer (primary lung and metastatic), and one patient had antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) vasculitis. In three patients the etiology was unknown. Postprocedural complications occurred in 5/83 (6%) patients, two patients with two major complications - stroke (one) and paraplegia (one) - and three patients with minor complications - chest pain (two) and bronchial artery dissection (one). A total of 15/50 patients died during the follow-up. Three patients died of hemoptysis, and the remaining deaths were unrelated to the procedure or hemoptysis. Twenty four patients had recurrent hemoptysis. A Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed an excellent long-term survival that was 85% at 10 years. Background: Surgery for chronic pulmonary aspergillosis is often technically risky. The choice of immediate thoracoplasty or muscle flap plombage to prevent postoperative space problems remains controversial. This study focused on the use of muscle flaps to prevent postoperative complications.Methods: During an 8-year period (2004 to 2012), all patients surgically treated for chronic pulmonary aspergillosis were enrolled in this retrospective study. Concomitant intrathoracic transposition of the latissimus dorsi muscle flap has been performed since 2011. The clinical records of these patients were reviewed retrospectively.Results: From 2004 to 2012, 16 patients were treated for chronic pulmonary aspergillosis. Fifteen patients received lobectomies and one had a partial resection. A preventive latissimus dorsi muscle flap was used in 6 patients (37 %). No postoperative deaths occurred. Prolonged air leaks appeared in 2 patients without muscle flaps, resulting in empyema in both. None of the patients with preventive muscle flaps suffered prolonged air leaks and subsequent empyema. In the outpatient clinic, late onset air leaks developed in 2 patients, one of whom had a lobectomy with muscle flap while the other had a lobectomy without muscle flap. Residual pleural space persisted in these two patients and Aspergillus infection later recurred.Conclusions: Concomitant latissimus dorsi muscle flaps may be effective for the prevention of prolonged air leaks and subsequent empyema. Primary vascular malformations such as connection between bronchial artery and pulmonary artery or pulmonary vein are quite rare. A 18-year-old male patient with the first episode of massive hemoptysis was found to have bronchial artery-pulmonary artery fistula, a rare vascular anomaly, on selective bronchial angiography. Since medical history revealed no acquired cause, it is considered congenital. He underwent bronchial artery embolization and hemoptysis was completely resolved after endovascular treatment. The presence of such vascular anomalies should be suspected in patients with massive hemoptysis. Bronchial artery embolization is a safe and effective nonsurgical treatment option for such patients. Introduction: The aim of this study was to characterize the prognosis and identify factors that contribute to rebleeding after bronchial artery embolization (BAE) in patients with active or inactive pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). Methods: Following a retrospective review, 190 patients had hemoptysis requiring BAE due to PTB in one hospital between 2006 and 2013. Results: The median age at the time of diagnosis of PTB was 37 years and 54 years at the time of first episode of hemoptysis. Among 47 patients (24.7 %) who experienced rebleeding after BAE during the median follow-up period of 13.9 months [interquartile range (IQR) 2.3-36.0 months], bleeding recurred in 12 patients (6.3 %) within 1 month and in 15 patients (7.9 %) after 1 year. The median non-recurrence time was 8.6 months (IQR 1.2-27.6 months). Independent predictors of rebleeding after BAE were tuberculous-destroyed lung [hazard ratio (HR) 3.0; 95 % confidence interval (CI) 1.5-6.2; p = 0.003], the use of anticoagulant agents and/or antiplatelet agents (HR 2.6; 95 % CI 1.1-5.8; p = 0.022), underlying chronic liver disease (HR 2.7; 95 % CI 1.1-4-6.9; p = 0.033), elevated pre-BAE C-reactive protein (CRP) (mg/dL) (HR 2.4; 95 % CI 1.0-5.5; p = 0.048), and the existence of fungal ball (HR 2.1; 95 % CI 1.0-4.3; p = 0.050). Conclusions: The risk of rebleeding after BAE in active or inactive PTB was high, particularly in patients with tuberculous-destroyed lung, chronic liver disease, the use of anticoagulant agents and/or antiplatelet agents, elevated pre-BAE CRP, and the existence of fungal ball. Objectives: To analyze the safety and efficacy of bronchial artery embolization (BAE) in the management of hemoptysis. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 334 patients who had undergone BAE for hemoptysis from January 2007 to July 2013. Our study included 255 (76.3%) males and 79 (23.7%) females with an age range from five to 81 years old. All relevant arteries were evaluated but only those arteries that showed hypertrophy and significant blush were targeted. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was used in all patients and gel foam was used in combination with PVA where there was significant shunting. Results: Mild hemoptysis was seen in 70 patients, moderate in 195 patients, and severe in 69 patients. On imaging, right side disease was seen in 101 patients, left side involvement in 59 patients, and bilateral involvement in 174 patients. Post-tubercular changes were the predominant pathology seen in 248 patients. Among 334 patients (386 procedures), 42 patients underwent the procedure twice and five patients underwent the procedure thrice. A total of 485 arteries were attempted of which 440 arteries were successfully embolized. Right intercosto-bronchial was the most common culprit artery present in 157 patients, followed by common bronchial (n=97), left bronchial (n=55), and right bronchial (n=45). We embolized a maximum of four arteries in one session. Immediate complications such as dissection and rupture occurred in only nine sessions (2.3%). Twenty-five procedures (6.5%) were repeated within two months, which were due to technical or clinical failure and 27 procedures (7%) were repeated after two months. Introduction The studies on hemoptysis have focused mainly on hemoptysis causes and massive or life-threatening hemoptysis. And there is a limited data that non-massive hemoptysis, especially moderate hemoptysis. Objectives We analyzed the prognosis and severity of bleeding on flexible bronchoscopy ( FB) between moderate and massive hemoptysis. Methods We reviewed total 852 subjects (59.9 ± 16.0 years) identified with hemoptysis. Reviewed database included severity of subjective hemoptysis, bleeding on FB, comorbid conditions, time from admission to bronchial artery embolization ( BAE), recurrent hemoptysis and mortality. Results In subjective hemoptysis, recurrent hemoptysis occurred in mild 8.0%, moderate 40.7%, massive hemoptysis 33.8%, and mortality was 4.7%, 13.4% and 13.5%. Especially, no statistical difference was shown in recurrent hemoptysis [hazard ratio ( HR) = 0.795; 95% confidence interval ( CI) 0.562-1.125, P = 0.196] and mortality ( HR = 1.054; 95% CI 0.596-1.864, P = 0.856) between moderate and massive hemoptysis. In moderate hemoptysis patients, oozing or active bleeding on FB took up 83.3%. In this review, recurrent hemoptysis was more in oozing bleeding than active bleeding ( HR = 1.781; 95% CI 1.214-2.431, P = 0.002), but mortality was similar ( HR = 1.611; 95% CI 0.930-2.790, P = 0.089). Recurrent hemoptysis significantly decreased in the group with BAE performed within 24 h ( HR = 0.308; 95% CI 0.149-0.637, P = 0.001) in moderate hemoptysis. Also, recurrent hemoptysis and mortality were significantly increased in the patients with smoking (≥40 pack-years), oozing or active bleeding on FB, and hypertension. Conclusion Moderate hemoptysis has shown similar prognosis of recurrent hemoptysis and mortality to massive hemoptysis.
