Education stands as the bedrock of individual growth and a defining force in shaping a nation’s identity. Serving as a fundamental pillar for societal advancement, it emerges as a paramount investment for cultivating a golden generation marked by prosperity, health, and equitable communities. In the expansive landscape of global education, Indonesia boasts one of the largest systems, with a resolute commitment from the government evident in high budget allocations. However, despite these endeavors, Indonesia grapples with challenges, reflected in its low international education ranking, currently standing at 6th from the bottom. This study meticulously explores the core challenges embedded in the Indonesian educational system. Using bibliometric analysis following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, the authors scrutinized 367 high-quality articles from the Scopus database spanning from August 2000 to 2023. The findings reveal 12 central issues, including curriculum dynamics, persistent educational inequalities, teacher shortages, infrastructure limitations, the specter of corruption, escalating dropout rates, and more. The corn earworm, Helicoverpa zea, is a major target pest of the insecticidal Vip3Aa protein used in pyramided transgenic Bt corn and cotton with Cry1 and Cry2 proteins in the U.S. The widespread resistance to Cry1 and Cry2 proteins in H. zea will challenge the long-term efficacy of Vip3Aa technology. Determining the frequency of resistant alleles to Vip3Aa in field populations of H. zea is critically important for resistance management. Here, we provided the first F2 screen study to estimate the resistance allele frequency for Vip3Aa in H. zea populations in Texas, U.S. In 2019, 128 H. zea neonates per isofamily for a total of 114 F2 families were screened with a diagnostic concentration of 3.0 μg/cm2 of Vip3Aa39 protein in diet-overlay bioassays. The F2 screen detected two families carrying a major Vip3Aa resistance allele. The estimated frequency of major resistance alleles against Vip3Aa39 in H. zea in Texas from this study was 0.0065 with a 95% CI of 0.0014–0.0157. A Vip3Aa-resistant strain (RR) derived from the F2 screen showed a high level of resistance to Vip3Aa39 protein, with a resistance ratio of >588.0-fold relative to a susceptible population (SS) based on diet-overlay bioassays. En el presente trabajo se utiliza como prisma analítico la concepción de Ernesto Guevara de la Serna sobre la construcción socialista para valorar el proceso de perfeccionamiento empresarial en Cuba. The efferent connections of the nucleus of the lateral olfactory tract (LOT) were examined in the rat with the Phaseolus vulgaris leucoagglutinin (PHA-L) technique. Our observations reveal that layers II and III of LOT have largely segregated outputs. Layer II projects chiefly ipsilaterally to the olfactory bulb and anterior olfactory nucleus, bilaterally to the anterior piriform cortex, dwarf cell cap regions of the olfactory tubercle and lateral shell of the accumbens, and contralaterally to the lateral part of the interstitial nucleus of the posterior limb of the anterior commissure. Layer III sends strong bilateral projections to the rostral basolateral amygdaloid complex, which are topographically organized, and provides bilateral inputs to the core of the accumbens, caudate-putamen, and agranular insular cortex (dorsal and posterior divisions). Layer II projects also to itself and to layers I and II of the contralateral LOT, whereas layer III projects to itself, to ipsilateral layer II, and to contralateral layer III of LOT. In double retrograde labeling experiments using Fluorogold and cholera toxin subunit b tracers, LOT neurons from layers II and III were found to provide collateral projections to homonymous structures on both sides of the brain. Unlike other parts of the olfactory amygdala, LOT neither projects directly to the extended amygdala nor to the hypothalamus. Thus, LOT seemingly influences nonpheromonal olfactory-guided behaviors, especially feeding, by acting on the olfactory bulb and on ventral striatal and basolateral amygdaloid districts that are tightly linked to lateral prefrontal cortical operations. The corn earworm, Helicoverpa zea (Boddie), is a major pest of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) maize and cotton in the U.S. Reduced efficacy of Bt plants expressing Cry1 and Cry2 against H. zea has been reported in some areas of the U.S. In this study, we evaluated the occurrence and ear damage of H. zea on transgenic Bt maize expressing Cry proteins or a combination of Vip3A and Cry proteins in the field in Texas in 2018. We found that the occurrence of H. zea larvae and the viable kernel damage area on the ear were not different between non-Bt maize and Bt maize expressing Cry1A.105+Cry2Ab2 and Cry1Ab+Cry1F proteins. A total of 67.5% of the pyramided Bt maize expressing Cry1Ab+Cry1F+Vip3A was damaged by 2nd–4th instar larvae of H. zea. Diet bioassays showed that the resistance ratio against Vip3Aa51 for H. zea obtained from Cry1Ab+Cry1F+Vip3A maize was 20.4 compared to a field population collected from Cry1F+Cry1A.105+Cry2Ab2 maize. Leaf tissue bioassays showed that 7-day survivorship on WideStrike3 (Cry1F+Cry1Ac+Vip3A) cotton leaves was significantly higher for the H. zea population collected from Cry1Ab+Cry1F+Vip3A maize than for a Bt-susceptible laboratory population. The results generated from this study suggest that H. zea has evolved practical resistance to Cry1 and Cry2 proteins. Assessing physical activity (PA) is a challenging task and many different approaches have been proposed. Direct observation (DO) techniques can objectively code both the behavior and the context in which it occurred, however, they have significant limitations such as the cost and burden associated with collecting and processing data. Therefore, this study evaluated the utility of an automated video analysis system (CAM) designed to record and discriminate the intensity of PA using a subject tracking methodology. The relative utility of the CAM system and DO were compared with criterion data from an objective accelerometry-based device (Actigraph GT3X+). Eight 10 year old children (three girls and five boys) wore the GT3X+ during a standard basketball session. PA was analyzed by two observers using the SOPLAY instrument and by the CAM system. The GT3X+ and the CAM were both set up to collect data at 30 Hz while the DO was performed every two minutes, with 10 s of observation for each gender. The GT3X+ was processed using cut points by Evanson and the outcome measure was the percentage of time spent in different intensities of PA. The CAM data were processed similarly using the same speed thresholds as were used in establishing the Evenson cut-off points (light: <2 mph; walking: 2–4 mph; very active: >4 mph). Similar outcomes were computed from the SOPLAY default analyses. A chi-square test was used to test differences in the percentage of time at the three intensity zones (light, walking and very active). The Yates’ correction was used to prevent overestimation of statistical significance for small data. When compared with GT3X+, the CAM had better results than the SOPLAY. The chi-square test yielded the following pairwise comparisons: CAM versus GT3x+ was χ2 (5) = 24.18, p < .001; SOPLAY2 versus GT3x+ was χ2 (5) = 144.44, p < .001; SOPLAY1 versus GT3x+ was χ2 (5) = 119.55, p < .001. The differences were smaller between CAM and GT3x+, suggesting that the video tracking system provided better agreement than DO. The small sample size precludes a definitive evaluation but the results show that the CAM video system may have promise for automated coding of physical activity behavior. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The zebrafish embryo has been evaluated as an in vivo model for plasmonic nanobubble (PNB) generation and detection at nanoscale. The embryo is easily observed and manipulated utilizing the same methodology as for application of PNBs in vitro. Injection and irradiation of gold nanoparticles with a short laser pulse resulted in generation of PNBs in zebrafish with similar parameters as for PNBs generated in water and cultured living cells. These PNBs do not result in systemic damage, thus we demonstrated an in vivo model for rapid and precise testing of plasmonic nanotechnologies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Antecedentes: La EP también puede manifestarse con una variedad de síntomas no motores, entre ellos la hiposmia. La hiposmia es un síntoma frecuente en la EP, que puede manifestarse incluso antes de que se presenten los síntomas motores, se han reportado casos donde suele aparecer de 2 a 7 años antes. Se estima que hasta el 90% de los pacientes con EP (PEP) experimentan algún grado de hiposmia. Además de afectar la calidad de vida, esta disminución en la capacidad olfativa puede ser un marcador significativo de la progresión de la enfermedad y de posibles deterioros cognitivos. En el presente artículo, se investigará la relación existente entre la hiposmia en la enfermedad de Parkinson, el examen MoCA y el DC. El MoCA es una herramienta ampliamente utilizada para evaluar las capacidades cognitivas y ha demostrado ser eficaz en la detección temprana de déficits cognitivos. Métodos: Se realizo un estudio pareado utilizando pruebas paramétricas (T student), descriptivas donde se analizaron un total de 64 pacientes de la consulta externa del instituto nacional de neurologia y neurocirugía, la población se dividió en dos grupos, siendo grupo 1 pacientes con hiposmia (G1=32) y grupo 2 pacientes sin hiposmia (G2=32), preados por año diagnóstico de EP, comparando entre los mismos calificación del MoCA, UPDRS III y total, hoehn y yahr (H&Y) y delay diagnóstico. Resultados: Se incluyeron 64 PEP divididos en G1 y G2 donde encontramos un MoCA G1 media de 21.69±3.44, G2 media de 23±3.25 con una significancia bilateral de P=0.105, Delay G1=2±2.21, G2=1.66±1.84 con P=.539, UPDRS 3 G1=34.91±13.27, G2=33.94±13.59 con P=.785, H&Y G1=2.44±1.01, G2=2.28±.58, UPDRS T G1=63.19±27.3, G2=60.13±21.22 con P=.628 Conclusiones: La significancia encontrada más importante fue en relación con el examen MoCA con un resultado de .105, por lo que concluimos que se deben realizar estudios con muestras mucho mayores para poder afirmar la relación que existe entre la hiposmia y el deterioro cognitivo. Antecedentes: Las cognición se refiere a las habilidades mentales utilizadas para procesar la información y aplicar el conocimiento. Estos procesos nos permiten realizar funciones diarias tales como prestar atención, resolver problemas, recordar dónde están las cosas y cómo hacer ciertas actividades. Se sabe que los niveles de educación altos pueden atenuar la gravedad de los déficits cognitivos en diferentes trastornos neurológicos. Objetivo: Analizar el nivel de educación y su efecto en alteraciones cognitivas en pacientes con Enfermedad de Parkinson (EP) Metodología: Realizamos un estudio retrospectivo observacional en donde se incluyeron pacientes con diagnóstico de EP sin importar edad ni sexo que acudieron a consulta externa de trastornos de movimiento en el INNN durante el año 2021-2022. Utilizando el software estadístico SPSS v25.0, se analizaron 178 pacientes, 104 hombres (58.4%) y 74 mujeres (41.6%), con edad media de 62.44 +/- 11,792. Dividimos los años de escolaridad en 3 grupos: grupo 1 (6 a 10 años), grupo 2 personas (10 a 15 años) y grupo 3 (>15 años). Posteriormente, lo relacionamos con el puntaje total del cuestionario MoCA y sus diferentes rubros. Para su análisis utilizamos la prueba de Kruskal-Wallis para muestras independientes. Resultados: Encontramos que la distribución de porcentaje entre las categorías de acuerdo a la educación es la misma en los ítems del MoCA en identificación, orientación y memoria. Por otro lado, observamos que la distribución total no es la misma entre las categorías de acuerdo a la educación en los ítems de visual, lenguaje, abstracción y atención y en el puntaje total (Tabla 1). Conclusión: Se observó que los pacientes con EP que tienen más de 15 años de escolaridad tuvieron un mayor puntaje total en el test de MoCA a diferencia de las personas con niveles de educación bajos, por lo tanto, los niveles de educación altos si mejoran el desempeño cognitivo durante la vejez. Introducción: El recambio plasmático terapéutico representa una alternativa donde el tratamiento convencional no ha obtenido resultados satisfactorios o bien ha fracasado. En el área pediátrica aún queda mucho por investigar y algunos de los criterios que se aplican en pacientes pediátricos se extrapolan de la experiencia del adulto. Describiremos nuestra experiencia en la realización del procedimiento de recambio plasmático en pacientes pediátricos. Material y métodos: Presentamos la experiencia obtenida en la realización de recambios plasmáticos realizados en pacientes pediátricos atendidos por el Servicio de Medicina Transfusional del Hospital Infantil de México Federico Gómez. Se describen las principales características de los pacientes sometidos a este proceso. Resultados: Con base en las guías de hemaféresis terapéuticas, publicadas en conjunto por la Asociación Americana de Bancos de Sangre y la Sociedad Americana de Aféresis, se realizaron 191 procedimientos de recambio plasmático en 55 pacientes, de los cuales 28 se realizaron en pacientes del sexo femenino (51%), con un intervalo desde los 11 meses hasta los 18 años, con una media de 8 años 7 meses y una mediana de10 años. El peso de los pacientes fue de 7 a 68 kg, con una media de 30.2 kg y mediana de 30 kg. El volumen procesado fue desde 335 hasta 9,456 mL con una media de 2,968 mL y mediana de 2,227 mL. El tiempo de ejecución fue de 40 a 290 minutos; los líquidos de reemplazo fueron: plasma fresco más sol. de albúmina a 5% en 102, 67.5%; sol. de albúmina a 5% en 20 (13.2%) y plasma fresco en 29 (19.2%). 56% de los procedimientos se realizó en el Servicio de Terapia Intensiva y Quirúrgica del hospital; los diagnósticos de los pacientes por los cuales se solicitó el procedimiento fueron: lupus eritematoso, 34%; hepatitis fulminante, 21%; rechazo al trasplante, 10%; púrpura trombocitopénica trombótica, 5%; intoxicación por hongos, 5%; Guillain-Barré, 3%; anemia hemolítica autoinmune, 2%; hepatitis autoinmune, 2%; sepsis, 2%; miastenia gravis, 2%; otras patologías, 14%. Conclusiones: El procedimiento de recambio plasmático es una alternativa terapéutica que ofrece una opción más para la atención de pacientes pediátricos. Introducción: Los procedimientos de aféresis terapéutica tienen una amplia gama de aplicaciones en servicios como terapia intensiva, oncología, reumatología, neurología, nefrología y trasplantes, entre otros. La finalidad principal es la extracción y eliminación en la sangre de componentes considerados responsables de una enfermedad. Material y métodos: Describiremos la experiencia obtenida en la realización de citaféresis reductiva realizada en pacientes pediátricos atendidos por el Servicio de Medicina Transfusional del Hospital Infantil de México Federico Gómez. Se describen las principales características de estos procedimientos. Resultados: Se realizaron 36 procedimientos de citaféresis reductiva en 23 pacientes, de los cuales 15 (65%) se realizaron en pacientes del sexo masculino. La edad de los pacientes comprende desde 11 meses hasta 15 años, con una media de 8 años 6 meses y una mediana de 8 años 5 meses, con un peso desde los 10.5 kg hasta 47.5 kg, con una media de 36.4 kg y mediana de 39 kg. El volumen sanguíneo procesado fue de 1,260 a 6,173 mL con una media de 3,657 mL y una mediana de 3,315 mL. El tiempo de proceso fue de 60 a 210 minutos. Los diagnósticos de los pacientes por los cuales se solicitó el procedimiento fueron: leucemia aguda linfoblástica, 48%; leucemia aguda mieloide, 26%; síndrome linfoproliferativo, 13%; síndrome hipereosinofílico, 8.7%; leucemia granulocítica crónica variante juvenil, 4.3%. El número de leucocitos antes del procedimiento fue de 54,000 - 930,000 mm³ con una media de 246,000 mm³ y se obtuvo una reducción de 34 a 62% del número de leucocitos. Conclusiones: La citaféresis reductiva puede representar una alternativa donde el tratamiento convencional no ha obtenido resultados satisfactorios o bien ha fracasado. Sin embargo, nos falta mucho por conocer para poder establecer guías o lineamientos y brindar seguridad y beneficio a la salud de nuestra población con esta modalidad terapéutica.
