Backgroud: To investigate the effect of Luteinizing hormone (LH) level changes on the outcomes of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) and embryo transfer (ET) in gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist (GnRH-ant) protocol. Methods: A total of 721 patients undergoing GnRH-ant protocol COH for the first IVF/ICSI cycles were retrospectively analyzed. COH process were divided into 2 stages, before (stage 1) and after (stage 2) the GnRH-ant initiation, and each with 5 groups basing on LH levels: LH decreased more than 50% (groups A1, A2), decreased 25-50% (groups B1, B2), change less than 25% (groups C1, C2), increased 25-50% (groups D1, D2), and increased more than 50% (groups E1, E2). Results: There were no significant differences among groups of stage1 regarding COH and ET outcomes. For stage 2, the more obvious the decrease of LH level, the more the number of oocytes retrieved, mature oocytes, fertilized oocytes, embryos cleavaged and the numbers of embryo available (P < 0.05), but without significant differences regarding ET outcomes. We also found the freeze-all rate in Group A2 was higher (P < 0.001). Conclusion: LH level changes before GnRH-ant addition were not related to COH and ET outcomes. aimed to analyze the data of high-violence patients and duration of high-violence risk to provide a new perspective on violence prevention, de-escalation and management. Methods: This retrospective observational cohort study included 171 patients who were treated in the acute psychiatric ward of Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital between January 2016 and June 2020, and who were assessed daily as having high violence risk. All patient data were collected from electronic hospital records (eg, age, gender, diagnosis, violence history, self-harm history, and admission condition (involuntary admission, discharged against medical advice). Between-group differences in disease severity, use of antipsychotics and benzodiazepine, and duration of high violence risk were analyzed using regression analysis. Results: Only patients' age was significantly associated with duration of high-violence risk (P = 0.028), making it predictive of longer duration of high-violence risk. In patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder or bipolar disorder, higher severity was significantly associated with longer duration of high-violence risk (P = 0.007, P = 0.001, respectively). Conclusion: Only age is a predictor of longer duration of violence risk in psychiatric patients, although higher severity is associated with higher violence risk. Study results may help management and healthcare staff better understand how quickly or slowly violence risk will decrease and may improve efficient use of healthcare resources and individualized patient-centered care. In order to improve the cuttage propagation coefficient of fresh-eating peanut, the effect of different catting parts and ABT concentration on the cutting growth of fresh-eating peanut was studied by taking Jihuatian No. 1 plant as the test material. The results showed that the survival rate of cutting in different parts of peanut was in the order of the upper part > middle part > lower part. The upper cuttings of peanut plant were treated with five different concentrations of ABT rooting agents, among which the treatment with 150 mg ⋅ L-1 concentration had the best cutting effect and the most vigorous growth vigour. After 40 days of cutting, the survival rate was 83.3%, the average rooting was 12.7, the average root length was 2.85 cm, and the yield reached 3259.04 kg ⋅ hm², which was 148.48% higher than that of the control group with clear water, and the difference was very significant. In order to screen out the new peanut varieties with high yield, disease resistance and high quality suitable for being planted in the south of China, Zhanyou 75 was used as the control variety to identify the yield, quality and disease resistance of the 10 new peanut strains newly bred in the south of China. The results showed that the pod yield of Haikehua 181 and Fuhua 0945 respectively increased by 39. 66% and 23. 05% compared with that of Zhanyou 75, and the seed kernel yield respectively increased by 43. 79% and 24. 42% compared with that of Zhanyou 75, with extremely significant differences. Compared with Zhanyou 75, the pod yield of Quanhua 1478, Guihua 66 and Shany-ou 121 increased significantly, but the seed kernel yield did not increase significantly, while the pod yield and seed kernel yield of Qianyoufense and Zhanyou 103 did not increase significantly. Qionghua 1104 had higher oleic acid content (70. 12%). The protein content of Heyou 1079 was 29. 43%, which reached the national high protein standard (28%). The drought resistance and flood resistance of all the tested peanut strains were strong, and the disease resistance level was medium. In consideration of the indexes such as the yield, field growth and resistance to disease, Haikehua 181 and Fuhua 0945 showed better overall performance and could be used for the small-scale planting demonstration experimentally. Al 6082 aluminum alloy has excellent corrosion resistance, strength, and formability. However, owing to the recrystallization effect of a hot working process, coarse grains form easily in this material, which reduces its strength and service life. The novel continuous casting direct rolling (CCDR) method can prevent the deterioration of this material. Thus, we used CCDR Al 6082 aluminum alloy as the research material in this study. By subjecting a CCDR Al 6082 aluminum alloy to heat treatment (T4 and T6) and cold rolling, the influence of recrystallization effect on its mechanical properties and on impact failure resistance were explored. The results demonstrated that the specimen subjected to T4 heat treatment had a higher elongation and that the specimen subjected to T6 heat treatment had a higher strength. After cold rolling, the hardness and strength of the specimens subjected to different heat treatments (coded T4R4 and T6R4) increased because of the work's hardening effect. Moreover, the elongations of both specimens decreased, but they were higher than the industrial standard (>10%). The strength of specimen T6R4 was higher (up to 400 MPa) than specimen T4R4. A simple preparation method of N-doped PCM via direct carbonization of nitrogen containing metal–organic gel was demonstrated. Aiming at analyzing the effects of atmospheric parameters on gas turbine inlet air cooling technology (GTIAC) , the thermodynamic process, influencing factors and economic effects of GTIAC were studied. Based on the operating parameters of turbine and gas-steam coined cycle unit in a certain power plant, the system models of two kinds of power units were built in modular modeling method by GateCycle software, a thermal equilibrium simulation software, and GTIAC equipment was installed. The output power incase of these two kinds of power units after cooling inlet air (inlet air cooling effects) under different atmospheric parameters (temper, humidity and pressure) was analyzed quantitatively. The results indicate that the change of atmospheric parameters has a great effect on the gas turbine inlet air cooling effects, showing a certain numerical relationship between them. Backgrounds/Aims: Preeclampsia was characterized by excessive thrombin generation in placentas and previous researches showed that thrombin could enhance soluble Fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 (sFlt-1) expression in first trimester trophoblasts. However, the detailed mechanism for the sFlt-1 over-production induced by thrombin was largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to explore the possible signaling pathway of thrombin-induced sFlt-1 production in extravillous trophoblasts (EVT). Methods: An EVT cell line (HRT-8/SVneo) was treated with various concentrations of thrombin. The mRNA expression and protein secretion of sFlt-1 in EVT were detected with real-time polymerase chain reaction and ELISA, respectively. The levels of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production were determined by DCFH-DA. Results: Exposure of EVT to thrombin induced increased intracellular ROS generation and overexpression of sFlt-1 at both mRNA and protein levels in a dose dependent manner. Short interfering RNA (siRNA) directed against PAR-1 or apocynin (an inhibitor of NADPH oxidase) could decrease the intracellular ROS generation and subsequently suppressed the production of sFlt-1 at mRNA and protein levels. Conclusions: Our results suggested that thrombin increased sFlt-1 production in EVT via the PAR-1 /NADPH oxidase /ROS signaling pathway. This also highlights the PAR-1 / NADPH oxidase / ROS pathway might be a potential therapeutic target for the prevention of preeclampsia in the future. © 2015 S. Hospital information systems (HISs) accelerate hospital-related operations and reduce errors. However, previous HISs lack flexibility and scalability, consequently limiting the development of medical institutions. The characteristics of cloud computing services are crucial in helping hospitals overcome such a deepening dilemma. Nonetheless, only few medical institutions has begun partial utilisation of cloud computing services. Therefore, this research explores the resistance factors encountered during the organisation innovation process using the innovation resistance theory. Furthermore, the developmental barriers of an organisation are summarised into the following seven categories: the expertise barriers, operational barriers, resource barriers, rules barriers, market entry barriers, data security barriers, and barriers of cloud service quality. Utilisation of interpretive structural modelling also facilitates further exploration of the interaction structures among the barriers of organisational innovations. Abstract: The Hsien-du-shan rock avalanche at Kaohsiung County, Taiwan, was triggered by heavy rainfall brought by Typhoon Morakot in 2009. Heavy rainfall began on the day of August 6, and continued to the morning of August 9 when the slope failure and landslide occurred. In this post-event investigation, physical, mechanical, and hydraulic properties of the rocks/soils at this large landslide site are evaluated. The in situ hydraulic conductivity of the soils at the source area was found to be too low (k=1.48×10−6 m/s) for rainfall to vertically infiltrate to the deep sliding surface, which was found to have a maximum depth of 85.6m. The post-failure simulations using discontinuous deformation analysis (DDA) suggest that the geometry of the sliding surface governs the failure behavior, and two continuous progressing failures likely occurred at the beginning of the Hsien-du-shan rock avalanche. Slope deformation was observed by the local residents before the Hsien-du-shan rock avalanche occurred as a geomorphologic precursor. In addition, water accumulation along the sliding surface governs the behavior of the sliding surface. Therefore, in the future, an early warning system of a rock avalanche can be developed by simultaneously applying high-resolution airborne LiDAR to detect slope deformation and using geo-electric measurements to image the infiltration of surface water to the sliding surface. Nijmegen breakage syndrome (NBS) is a chromosomal-instability syndrome. The NBS gene product, NBS1 (p95 or nibrin), is a part of the Mre11-Rad50-NBS1 complex. SIN1 is a component of the mTOR/Rictor/SIN1 complex mediating the activation of Akt. Here we show that NBS1 interacted with mTOR, Rictor, and SIN1. The specific domains of mTOR, Rictor, or SIN1 interacted with the internal domain (a.a. 221-402) of NBS1. Sucrose density gradient showed that NBS1 was located in the same fractions as the mTOR/Rictor/SIN1 complex. Knockdown of NBS1 decreased the levels of phosphorylated Akt and its downstream targets. Ionizing radiation (IR) increased the NBS1 levels and activated Akt activity. These results demonstrate that NBS1 interacts with the mTOR/Rictor/SIN1 complex through the a.a. 221–402 domain and contributes to the activation of Akt activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: We recently found that formylpeptide receptor (FPR), a G-protein-coupled receptor that mediates chemotaxis of phagocytic leukocytes induced by bacterial peptide N-formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine, is expressed by malignant human glioma cells and promotes tumor growth and angiogenesis. In this study, we examined the effect of Nordy, a novel chiral lipoxygenase inhibitor which was synthesized based on the structure of a natural nordihydroguaiaretic acid, on the expression of FPR by human glioblastoma cells. We found that FPR was expressed at the protein level by highly malignant human glioma cell lines U87 and BT325, and a rat glioma cell line C6. The expression level of FPR was correlated with the degree of the malignancy of tumor cells. The poorly differentiated glioma cell line U87 expressed the highest level of FPR. In U87 glioma cells, the expression of FPR was attenuated at the protein level by Nordy treatment for 48 (P <0.05). Nordy did not affect FPR mRNA expression in U87 cells. In addition, Nordy treatment seemed to promote glioma cell differentiation, as evidenced by their reduced expression of vimentin and increased expression of GFAP. Abstract: Numerous studies have showed that chemokine receptors, such as CXCR4, contribute to the growth and metastasis of a variety of malignant tumors. In this study, we investigated the role of CXCR4 in the production of angiogenic factor, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), in various human glioma cells from astrocytic origin. The expression of CXCR4 mRNA and protein in three glioma cell lines, U87-MG, SHG-44, and CHG-5, was determined by RT-PCR and immunocytochemistry, respectively. The malignancies of three gliomas were evaluated by expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein and vimentin, the differentiation markers of astrocytic cells. The role of functional CXCR4 in tumor cell migration was studied with chemotaxis assay. Ca2+ mobilization and VEGF production were measured in the cells after stimulation with CXCR4 ligand, SDF1β. The results showed that the levels of functional CXCR4 expression at both mRNA and protein levels by several human glioma cell lines were correlated with the degree of differentiation of the tumor cells. Activation of CXCR4 induced glioma cell chemotaxis and could trigger the increase of intracellular [Ca2+]i. Such an activation could result in the increased production of VEGF by the stimulated tumor cells. Our results suggest that CXCR4 may contribute to the high level of VEGF produced by malignant glioma cells and thus constitute a therapeutic target for antiangiogenesis strategy. Many pathological processes including wound healing, chronic inflammation and cancer require angiogenesis, i.e., the formation of new vasculature in the lesions. Accumulating evidence indicates that angiogenesis is crucial for both chronic inflammation and the growth of malignant tumors with the participation of diverse cytokines, chemokines and growth factors. It is nevertheless believed that differences exist in angiogenesis between cancer and chronic inflammatory diseases. The aim of this review is to outline the characteristics of angiogenesis in chronic inflammation and cancer. Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic significantly affected emergency department (ED) visits and urgent psychiatric consultation (UPC) seeking behavior in EDs. Our study explored the changes in UPCs during and after the pandemic peak. Methods: This retrospective observational study evaluated UPCs in the ED of a referral medical center in Taiwan, where treated both physical and psychiatric complaints. We defined the COVID-19 pandemic peak period as calendar week 4–18, 2020. The corresponding baseline as calendar week 4–18, 2019, and the slack period as week 4–18, 2021. The total number of UPCs, patient demographic data such as sex and age of the patients seen, the referral system (whether police or emergency medical service [EMS] or other sources), and the chief complaint (self-harm or violence) were recorded. Results: Compared with the baseline period, a significant decline in UPCs was observed in the pandemic peak period, and a rebound was observed in the slack period, with the median [IQR] Q1, Q3 values of 22 [18, 26], 12 [10, 17]), and 16 [15, 23], respectively. We observed significantly few men (34.9% vs 45.2%) and less violence (10.2% vs 17.6%) in the peak period compared with in the baseline period, but no significant difference was found compared with the slack period. Throughout the pandemic, younger patients (41.8 ± 17.4 in 2019, 39.2 ± 18.5 [p = 0.121] in 2020, and 35.6 ± 17.2 [p < 0.001] in 2021), higher proportions of police/EMS referral (38.7% in 2019, 41.9% [p = 0.473] in 2020, and 51.9% [p = 0.001] in 2021) and self-harm–related complaints (57% in 2019, 62.4% [p = 0.233] in 2020, and 64.9% [p = 0.049] in 2021) was noted among UPC seekers during the pandemic. However, the proportion of violence-related UPCs (17.6% in 2019, 10.2% [p = 0.023] in 2020, and 12.3% [p = 0.072] in 2021) declined. Background: Women are well known to be susceptible to developing affective disorders, yet little attention has been given to effects of ovariectomy-reduced hormones and links with depression. This population-based cross-sectional study aimed to investigate possible associations between ovariectomy-reduced hormones and depression symptom scores of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) in ovariectomized women. Methods: Data of PHQ-9 scores, demographics and comorbidities of ovariectomized women were extracted from the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database (2013–2016) and were analyzed retrospectively. Results: Among ovariectomized women in the NHANES database, serum estradiol levels were significantly positively associated with PHQ-9 scores (ß = 0.014, 95% CI: 0.001, 0.028, P = 0.040), whereas serum testosterone was negatively associated with PHQ-9 scores (ß = -0.033, 95% CI: − 0.048, − 0.018, P < 0.001) after adjusting for confounders. Further stratified analyses revealed that serum estradiol was positively associated with PHQ-9 only among women with history of estrogen use. Serum testosterone levels were negatively associated with PHQ-9 among women with or without prior estrogen use but this was only observed among women aged < = 60 years (ß = − 0.057, − 0.076, − 0.038, P < 0.001). Conclusions: Serum estradiol and testosterone are associated with PHQ-9 scores indicative for depression in ovariectomized women. The associations are modified by age and history of estrogen use. Purpose: People's health-care-seeking behaviors considerably changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study evaluated the changes in self-harm- and violence-related urgent psychiatric consultation (UPC) in the emergency department (ED) during different stages of the pandemic and at different levels of hospitals. Patients and Methods: We recruited patients who received UPC during the baseline (2019), peak (2020), and slack (2021) periods of the same time window (calendar weeks 4– 18) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Demographic data such as age, sex, and referral type (by the police/emergency medical system) were also recorded. Results: We found female gender and younger age associated with higher risk of self-harm-related UPCs, whereas patients visiting regional hospitals, male patients, and patients referred by the policy/emergency medical system, had a higher risk of violence-related UPCs. After adjustment, the different pandemic stages were not significantly associated with self-harm- or violence-related UPCs. Currently, it is still a huge challenge to prepare high performance eco-friendly poly(lactic acid) (PLA) with high thermal stability, good processability, excellent crystallization behavior, good transparency and highly-efficient fire safety. In this paper, a novel bio-based nucleation agent N-(furan-2-ylmethyl)- P , P -diphenylphosphinic amide (FPPA) was prepared and used for the fabrication of fire safety PLA/FPPA composites. The chemical structure of FPPA was measured by FTIR, NMR and MS. Further, the crystallization behavior, thermal stability, fire safety and mechanical properties of PLA/FPPA composites were performed by TGA, DSC, polarization microscope, LOI, UL94, cone calorimeter, DMA and, SEM, Raman, GC–MS, and TGA-FTIR. The results showed that the multifunctional FPPA not only had a high thermal stability and was a good nucleation agent for PLA. Moreover, only loading of 3 wt% FPPA increased the LOI of PLA from 19.0 to 33.8 % with UL-94 V-0 classification. Furthermore, the heat release rate and total heat release values of PLA/3%FPPA composite reduced by 6.3 % and 15.3 % in cone-calorimeter test. Such high fire safety was mainly attributed to specific fire safety radicals due to thermal degradation of FPPA to interrupt composites burning in gas phase. Besides, transparency and mechanical properties were almost not changed because of low loading of FPPA in PLA. This multifunctional bio-based fire-retardant for PLA with good comprehensive performance promises broad application in engineering electronics, automobiles, 3D printing and construction materials. We theoretically study the orbital-resolved photoelectron momentum distributions (PMDs) of neon atoms in time-delayed bichromatic elliptically polarized attosecond pulses by numerically solving the two-dimensional time-dependent Schrödinger equation (2D-TDSE). The active electron can reach the continuum state at the same momentum by absorbing m 2 high-energetic photons or m 1 low-energetic photons sequentially, and coherent electron wave packets (CEWPs) from these two pathways can interfere with each other. We show the PMDs exhibit an asymmetrical round when the single-photon ionization channel dominates, while spiral structures with the number of arms are m 1 - m 2 ( m 1 + m 2 ) for the corotating (counter-rotating) scheme. Furthermore, we find that interference patterns in PMDs are sensitive to the amplitude ratio, frequency combinations, dichroism, time delay and ellipticity of bichromatic elliptically polarized attosecond pulses, which offers possibilities for controlling the interference of CEWPs in atoms by shaping the bichromatic elliptically polarized attosecond pulses. Despite the fact that most hemoglobin (Hb) variants are clinically and hematologically silent, they can interact with thalassemias, which could sometimes give rise to complicated routine thalassemia diagnostics. Hb G-Siriraj [β7(A4)Glu→Lys; HBB: c.22G>A] alone is a benign condition, but its coinheritance with α-thalassemia (α-thal) may lead to misdiagnosis. We describe the case of a Chinese woman with an elevated Hb A2 level who was assumed to carry heterozygous β-thalassemia (β-thal), but was later shown to be a double heterozygote for Hb G-Siriraj and Hb H disease. This study for the first time described hematological characteristics of a patient with a double heterozygosity for Hb G-Siriraj and Hb H disease. Abstract: In this work electroless nickel–phosphorous coatings were used as the micro heaters for scanning thermal microscopy. The deposition of Ni–P alloys not only simplified the microelectromechanical system fabrication steps but also provided flexibility in the tuning of the resistance of the heating elements. Ni–P films were plated on patterned silicon substrates and silicon with a silicon nitride film. The pre-deposition reactive ion etch (RIE) treatment caused a change in surface roughness that enhanced the adhesion of Ni–P coatings. Optimization of RIE parameters and pH values could achieve selective deposition of Ni–P, thus helped the lift-off of a serpentine circuit pattern. The chemical composition and microstructure of Ni–P films affect the electrical properties of micro heaters. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy identified the Ni–P composition and confirmed its insignificant level of oxidation. The high-temperature X-ray diffraction indicated that the as-deposited film was crystalline Ni, which later transformed into Ni3P at higher temperature. The resistivity of Ni–P films was tailored between 10−5 and 10−7 Ωm via a post-deposition annealing, which also obtained a stable temperature coefficient of resistance. Abstract: The flavonoid hyperoside has been reported to elicit cytoprotection against oxidative stress partly by increasing the activity of antioxidant enzymes, such as glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and catalase. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying this effect remain unclear. Here, hepatic L02 cells exposed to H2O2 (100μM) were used to demonstrate that hyperoside protected cells by significantly inhibiting overproduction of intracellular ROS, depletion of the mitochondrial membrane potential and leakage of lactate dehydrogenase. Hyperoside further enhanced the cellular antioxidant defense system through increasing the activity of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), and by up-regulating HO-1 expression. Meanwhile, real time PCR, western blot and immunofluorescence studies revealed that hyperoside stimulated nuclear translocation of the Nrf2 transcription factor in a dose-dependent manner, and this effect was significantly suppressed by pharmacological inhibition of the mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) p38 and ERK. Collectively, our data provide the first description of the mechanism underlying hyperoside’s ability to attenuate H2O2-induced cell damage, namely this compound interacts with the MAPK-dependent Keap1–Nrf2–ARE signaling pathway to up-regulate HO-1 expression and enhance intracellular antioxidant activity. Abstract: In this article, we present a FPGA-based reconfigurable system for the advanced encryption standard (AES) algorithm. This proposed design, called diversified AES (DAES), has the variations of four parameters: the field irreducible polynomial, the affine transformation in the SubBytes, the offsets in the ShiftRows, and the polynomial in the MixColumns. The advantage of such variations in the AES system is that they increase the strength regarding internal or external attacks. We also use straightforward architecture – look-up tables – for encryption and decryption to lead this system simple and high-speed using field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Abstract: Vascular endothelial cells (ECs) that initiate tumor angiogenesis may acquire distinct properties after conditioning in tumor microenvironment as compared to ECs in non-malignant tissues. Thus far, most in vitro studies of angiogenesis used ECs isolated from normal tissues, which may not fully represent the nature of ECs in tumor vasculature. In this study, glioma-derived microvascular ECs (GDMEC) were purified from human glioma tissues by incubating with magnetic beads coated with anti-CD105 antibody and highly pure (98%) preparations of GDMEC were obtained. These cells exhibited typical EC phenotype, and proliferated rapidly in culture. Interestingly, GDMEC expressed higher levels of VEGF receptors, flt-1 and flk-1, as compared to an established human EC cell line ECV304 and primary human umbilical vascular EC (HUVEC). Functionally, GDMEC were capable of forming intercellular junctions and tubule-like structures (TLS) of various sizes. Stimulation by VEGF further promoted TLS formation with diverse tubular walls by GDMEC. In contrast, TLS formed by ECV304 and HUVEC showed significantly different features. We further observed that Nordy, a synthetic lipoxygenase inhibitor, potently inhibited TLS formation by GDMEC. The results suggest that isolation of highly pure ECs derived from tumor tissues is more appropriate for studies of tumor angiogenesis and for test of potential anti-cancer therapeutic targets. Background: Previous studies have demonstrated the benefits of thymosin alpha-1 (Tα1) in anti-virus, immunological enhancement and anti-inflammation. However, it is controversial about the efficacy and safety of entecavir (ETV) plus Tα1 combination therapy versus ETV monotherapy in cirrhotic patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection.Methods: The systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) were performed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ETV plus Tα1 combination therapy versus ETV monotherapy in HBV-related patients with cirrhosis. We performed a systematic literature search via PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), EMBASE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Science and Technology Journals Database (VIP), and Chinese Biological Medicine database (CBM). Relative risk (RR) and standardized mean difference (SMD) with a fixed- or random- effect model were calculated. Heterogeneity was assessed through a Cochrane Q-test and I2 values.Results: Seven RCTs involving 1144 subjects were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis. Compared with ETV monotherapy, ETV plus Tα1 combination therapy led to a higher complete response (RR = 1.18; 95% CI, 1.07-1.30). In post treatment for 24 weeks, the HBV DNA undetectable rate and HBeAg loss rate were higher in ETV plus Tα1 group than in ETV alone group (RR = 1.91; 95% CI, 1.56-2.35; RR = 2.05; 95% CI, 1.62-2.60). However, after 48 and 52 weeks of treatment, there was no significant difference between the combination therapy and ETV monotherapy (RR = 1.07; 95% CI, 0.96-1.18; RR = 1.17; 95% CI, 0.89-1.55). At week 52 of treatment, the HBsAg loss rate of ETV plus Tα1 group was no significance with that of ETV alone group (RR = 1.03; 95% CI, 0.15-7.26). In comparison with ETV alone, the some biochemical parameters and liver fibrosis were obviously improved by ETV plus Tα1, and there was significant heterogeneity. In addition, the number of adverse events was significantly reduced by ETV plus Tα1, compared to ETV alone (RR = 0.48; 95% CI, 0.24-0.95).Conclusions: ETV plus Tα1 might lead to a higher clinical response and a lower comprehensive adverse reaction rate in HBV-related patients with cirrhosis, compared to ETV alone. However, the whole patients included in this meta-analysis were from Chinese mainland, so that more worldwide RCTs with a larger sample size are needed to verify the current findings. 1T-MoS 2 @rGO-H based supercapacitor worked in a wide operating voltage of 2.3 V and achieved the maximum energy density of 31.2 Wh kg−1 at a power density of 1164 W kg−1. Further, the device exhibited 91% capacitance retention after 20,000 cycles. • Flame-retardant hybrid DES electrolyte was developed with a wide potential window (2.3 V). • Addition of co-solvent led to the superior conductivity and low viscosity. • 1T-MoS 2 -rGO hydrogel exhibited higher energy and power density in the hybrid electrolyte. • The capacitance retention of 91% was achieved even after 20,000 cycles of GCD. Herein, we are the first to develop a co-solvent-in-deep eutectic solvent (DES) system by mixing water and acetonitrile with a typical DES electrolyte consisting of acetamide and lithium perchlorate. The addition of co-solvents not only solves the problems of high viscosity and low conductivity of DES but also provides some unique properties. For example, the presence of water improves the flame-retardant property of the DES electrolyte. In contrast, the addition of acetonitrile further improves the ionic conductivity without compromising a wide electrochemical stability window (ESW). The effects of the amount of co-solvent in DES and the optimal molar ratio between co-solvents have been investigated. When the molar ratio of acetonitrile to water is 4.4:1, hybrid DES shows the best physical properties, including a wide ESW (2.55 V), superior conductivity (15.6 mS cm−1), and low viscosity (5.82 mPa·s). Furthermore, a series of spectroscopic measurements have been performed to understand the interaction among electrolyte components. It was found that water molecules were strongly coordinated to Li+ ions, and such interaction was not affected by the presence of acetonitrile molecules. On the other hand, we have demonstrated using hydrogel consisting of 1T-MoS 2 and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as the electrode materials for supercapacitors. This hydrogel inherited the porous structure of rGO hydrogel and the high conductivity of 1T-MoS 2. Finally, high voltage symmetric supercapacitors have been fabricated by using hybrid DES and hydrogel as the electrolyte and electrode, respectively. Abstract Four new bipolar host materials (TPA-1 , CBZ-1 , CBZ-2 and CBZ-3) comprising triphenylamine and carbazole as electron donors with hole-transporting properties and [1,2,4]triazolo[4,3- a ]pyridine as an electron acceptor with electron-transporting property have been synthesized, characterized and applied as host materials for green phosphorescent OLEDs. Their thermal, photophysical, electrochemical and carrier-transport properties have also been studied. These bipolar host materials showed good thermal and morphological stabilities. These compounds efficiently suppress the intramolecular charge transfer between donor and acceptor and possess moderate triplet energies (E T = 2.48–2.51 eV). These materials exhibited good performances in green PhOLEDs and showed maximum external quantum efficiency in the range of 9.2–16.7%. A green-phosphorescent device incorporating CBZ-2 as the host doped with Ir(ppy) 3 achieved a maximum external quantum efficiency, current efficiency, and power efficiency of 16.7%, 62.5 cd A−1, and 69.7 lm W−1, respectively. Abstract: In this study, the adsorption behavior of different metal centers in analogous M‐1,4‐NDC frameworks (1,4‐NDC=1,4‐naphthalenedicarboxylate) towards guest molecules through simulation studies and experimental studies is reported. Simulation studies showed that the adsorption behavior of analogous M‐1,4‐NDC is affected by the atomic radius of the metal center, which was found to be in agreement with the experimental studies. Senile plaques consisting of Amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides, in particular Aβ1–42, are the hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and have been the primary therapeutic targets. Passive immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) has shown initial success in mouse models of AD. However, the existing Aβ-directed mAbs mostly were tested on animal models or patients with advanced disease. The effects and mechanisms of mAbs on animals or human trial participants in the prodromal phase of AD are not fully clarified. In the current study, a novel mAb (3F5) directed against the 1–11 amino acids of Aβ1–42 was generated by immunizing mice with an emulsion of full length human Aβ1–42. The mAb (3F5) showed the ability to disrupt Aβ1–42 aggregation and prevent Aβ-mediated neurotoxicity in vitro. In a mouse model of AD, administration with 3F5 for 3 months in 6 months-old mice demonstrated that the mAb specifically bound with Aβ1–42 to promote the depolymerization of Aβ fibrils, facilitated endocytosis of Aβ1–42 by microglia, and attenuated the death and apoptosis of neuronal cells, accompanied by neurite outgrowth. APP/PS1 double-transgenic mice treated with 3F5 mAb showed reduced memory loss, cognitive decline, and decreased levels of amyloid deposits in the brain. Aβ1–42 levels in cerebral tissues were also significantly reduced, whereas serum Aβ1–42 was markedly increased. Interestingly, the concentration of 3F5 in peripheral circulation is much higher than that in the brain. These results indicate that 3F5 is able to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) to bind Aβ and initiates the phagocytosis of antibody/Aβ complexes by microglia in the amyloid depositing mice. 3F5 also promotes Aβ efflux from the brain. We performed a quantitative comparison of brittle thrust wedge experiments to evaluate the variability among analogue models and to appraise the reproducibility and limits of model interpretation. Fifteen analogue modeling laboratories participated in this benchmark initiative. Each laboratory received a shipment of the same type of quartz and corundum sand and all laboratories adhered to a stringent model building protocol and used the same type of foil to cover base and sidewalls of the sandbox. Sieve structure, sifting height, filling rate, and details on off-scraping of excess sand followed prescribed procedures. Our analogue benchmark shows that even for simple plane-strain experiments with prescribed stringent model construction techniques, quantitative model results show variability, most notably for surface slope, thrust spacing and number of forward and backthrusts. One of the sources of the variability in model results is related to slight variations in how sand is deposited in the sandbox. Small changes in sifting height, sifting rate, and scraping will result in slightly heterogeneous material bulk densities, which will affect the mechanical properties of the sand, and will result in lateral and vertical differences in peak and boundary friction angles, as well as cohesion values once the model is constructed. Initial variations in basal friction are inferred to play the most important role in causing model variability. Our comparison shows that the human factor plays a decisive role, and even when one modeler repeats the same experiment, quantitative model results still show variability. Our observations highlight the limits of up-scaling quantitative analogue model results to nature or for making comparisons with numerical models. The frictional behavior of sand is highly sensitive to small variations in material state or experimental set-up, and hence, it will remain difficult to scale quantitative results such as number of thrusts, thrust spacing, and pop-up width from model to nature. In this study, a demand-oriented multi-objective planning method is proposed for electronic product technology development. The proposed method uses the analytical hierarchy process to analyze the relative importance of each customer demand. Subsequently, quality function deployment is used to analyze the relationships between customer demands and product technologies, as well as for evaluating the customer satisfaction level for each electronic product that is being implemented. By using a model to identify the life-cycle stage of the product technology, each electronic product technology is classified in order to determine how to obtain the technology. A multi-objective evaluation model of planning strategies is obtained for electronic product technology development to evaluate the performance of different planning strategies. A multi-objective genetic algorithm is utilized to help companies efficiently establish an optimal planning strategy for electronic product technology development with the maximum customer satisfaction level and minimum product development cost. Glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) acts as a negative regulator of NF-E2 related factor 2 (Nrf2) by inducing Nrf2 degradation and nuclear export. Our previous study demonstrated that the flavonoid hyperoside elicits cytoprotection against oxidative stress by activating the Keap1-Nrf2-ARE signaling pathway, thus increasing the expression of antioxidant enzymes, such as heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase. However, the role of GSK-3β in hyperoside-mediated Nrf2 activation is unclear. Here, we demonstrate that in a normal human hepatocyte cell line, (L02), hyperoside is capable of inducing the phosphorylation of GSK-3β at Ser9 without affecting the protein levels of GSK-3β and its phosphorylation at Thr390. Lithium chloride (LiCl) and short interfering RNA (siRNA)-mediated inhibition of GSK-3β significantly enhanced the ability of hyperoside to protect L02 liver cells from H2O2-induced oxidative damage, leading to increased cell survival shown by the maintenance of cell membrane integrity and elevated levels of glutathione (GSH), one of the endogenous antioxidant biomarkers. Further study showed that LiCl and siRNA-mediated inhibition of GSK-3β increased hyperoside-induced HO-1 expression, and the effect was dependent upon enhanced Nrf2 nuclear translocation and gene expression. These activities were followed by ARE-mediated transcriptional activation in the presence of hyperoside, which was abolished by the transfection of the cells with Nrf2 siRNA. Furthermore, the siRNA-mediated inhibition of Keap1 also enhanced hyperoside-induced Nrf2 nuclear accumulation and HO-1 expression, which was relatively smaller than the effects obtained from GSK-3β siRNA administration. Moreover, Keap1 siRNA administration alone had no significant effect on the phosphorylation and protein expression of GSK-3β. Collectively, our data provide evidence that hyperoside attenuates H2O2 -induced L02 cell damage by activating the Nrf2-ARE signaling pathway through both an increase in GSK-3β inhibitory phosphorylation at Ser9 and an inhibition of Keap1 and that hyperoside-mediated GSK-3β inhibition exhibits more significant effects. Abstract: In this paper, a time-area efficient hardware decoder of the (23, 12, 7) quadratic residue code, or Golay code, is presented. The key feature of this proposed algorithm lies in fast determination of error positions through the analysis on the weight of syndromes without large operations in finite fields. Comparing with the algorithm using one syndrome, the proposed algorithm is more suitable for the parallel hardware design by using two syndromes. Based on an Altera Cyclone II field-programmable gate array (FPGA) device (EP2C35F484C6), the area cost and the time delay of the complete system are reduced by up to 86.4% and 22.5%, respectively. Using the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) 0.18-μm complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) standard cell library, the proposed decoder is 91.8% smaller and 8.3% faster. Abstract: Enrichment of cancer stem cells for studies of carcinogenesis remains a difficult issue. We hypothesized that the unique features of cancer stem cells (CSCs) may allow formation of their colonies in vitro with distinct morphology. We therefore investigated the possibility to use morphological diversity of colonies to identify and enrich CSCs from cultured malignant human glioma cells. We found that a small proportion of the cells from a human glioma cell line U251 formed tight and round-shaped colonies in culture. Most cells in such colonies were capable of self-renewal, generating tumor spheres and differentiating into lineages with markers for neurons, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. In addition, several neural stem cell-related genes were highly expressed by tumor cells in those tight colonies. Our results thus demonstrate a novel approach to the identification and enrichment of CSCs based on unique morphology of their colonies formed in vitro. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: G-protein-coupled formylpeptide receptor (FPR) has recently been found to be functionally expressed in gliomas and are probably involved in their malignant biological behavior. In an attempt to explore the therapeutic significance of FPRs, we used wild-type human glioblastoma cells (U87), the corresponding FPR short-interfering RNA transfected (siRNA U87) cells, and mock-transfected U87 cells (mock U87) to establish xenografts in mice brains. Compared to wild-type and mock tranfected cells, siRNA U87 cells formed smaller and more well-differentiated xenografts with fewer mitotic figures and more glial filaments within their cytoplasm. The density of microvessels, which presented as a nearly normal morphous, was also decreased significantly in FPR knockdown cells. Moreover, fewer invasive foci could be observed in the xenografts derived from siRNA U87 cells, which also showed a poor migratory capacity in vitro. We suggest that decreased VEGF and MMP-2/-9 expression might be a possible mechanism for the decreasing angiogenic potential and invasive capability of U87 cells after FPR knockdown. Functional FPR might be essential for sustaining the growth and aggressive phenotype of gliomas, and could therefore be a potential therapeutic target. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: A variety of malignant cancers have been found to contain a subpopulation of stem cell-like tumor cells, or cancer stem cells (CSCs). However, the existence of CSCs in U87, a most commonly used glioma cell line, is still controversial. In this study, we demonstrate that U87 cell line contained a fraction of tumor cells that could form tumor spheres and were enriched by progressively increasing the concentration of serum-free neural stem cell medium with or without low dose vincristine. These cells possessed the ability of self-renewal and multipotency, the defined characteristics of CSCs. Moreover, the tumors formed by the secondary spheres displayed typical histological features of human glioblastoma, including cellular pleomorphism, pseudopalisades surrounding necrosis, hyperchromatic nuclei, high density of microvessels and invasion to the brain parenchyma. These results indicate that gradually increasing the concentration of serum-free neural stem cell culture medium with or without vincristine is a simple and effective method for isolation of CSCs to study the initiation and progression of human glioblastoma. Abstract: Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is a neurotropic virus. The clinically manifestation of JEV-induced encephalitis is characterized by the brain inflammation and neuronal dysfunction and/or destruction. Currently, the cellular signaling molecules that underlie JEV-induced cerebral inflammation and cellular alterations are not well understood. Protein tyrosine phosphorylation events are key regulators of cellular signaling processes, including inflammation. We investigated whether Src protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) function in JEV-induced cellular changes in neuron/glia cultures. JEV infection modulated tyrosine phosphorylation events. Src PTK was hyperphosphorylated at the early stage of infection. Biochemical studies demonstrated that both inhibitors of the Src family PTK and Ras attenuated JEV-induced extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) activation. Our results further revealed that PTK, Ras, and ERK inhibitors effectively suppressed JEV-induced pro-inflammatory cytokine expression and neurotoxicity. Pharmacological studies suggested that microglia secreted pro-inflammatory cytokine via Src/Ras/ERK pathway in responding to JEV infection. Another interesting observation was that nonstructural protein 3 (NS3) was able to interact with Src and showed tyrosine phosphorylation. However, the biological consequences of their interaction and exact control of NS3 tyrosine phosphorylation required further investigation. Our results suggest that the Src/Ras/ERK signaling cascade is involved in JEV-induced pro-inflammatory cytokine expression and neurotoxicity. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: This paper studied the deformation and damage behaviors of aluminum-alloy under different loadings. A series of static and dynamic plate tension tests, notch tension tests and shear tests were carried out and were combined with the finite element model to acquire material parameters. This work demonstrated that damage behavior of aluminum-alloy depends strongly on stress triaxiality and cannot be modeled with simple damage models based on one constant fracture strain. A systematic investigation shows that the micromechanical Gurson damage model and phenomenological Johnson–Cook model can be used to simulate crash behavior of aluminum components. The tests on an aluminum component of extrusion under static loading were performed and simulated to validate the applicability of Gurson damage model. Abstract: Hydrogen strorage alloys with formula La1.5Mg0.5Ni7 were prepared by induction melting followed by different annealing treatments (1073, 1123 and 1173K) for 24h. The alloy composition, alloy microstructure and electrochemical properties were investigated, respectively. The results showed that the multi-phase structure of as-cast alloy was converted into a double-phase structure (Gd2Co7-type phase and Ce2Ni7-type phase) through annealing treatments. Mg atoms were mainly located in Laves unit of Gd2Co7-type unit cell and Ce2Ni7-type unit cell. The electrochemical capacity of alloy electrodes after annealing treatment could be up to 390mAh/g. The cyclic stability of alloy electrodes was significantly improved by annealing treatments; After 150charge/discharge cycles, the capacity retention ratio of alloy annealed at 1173K was the highest (81.9%). Abstract: HESR1 is a basic helix–loop–helix transcription factors regulated by the Notch signaling pathway in vertebrate and Drosophila embryos, and is related to the HES/Hairy/E (sp1) family. HESR1 is a downstream target of Notch in endothelial cells and could be an effector of Notch signaling in these cells. HESR1 is necessary for the induction of a tubular network and for continued maintenance of mature and quiescent blood vessels. To examine the role of HESR1 in retinal neovascularization, we transfected retinal vascular endothelial cells (HRCECs) with the HESR1 gene and studied its effects on the expression of angiogenic factors, on the proliferation and migration of endothelial cells, and on the formation of tube-like structures (TLSs). Overexpression of HESR1 downregulated VEGFR-2 expression, upregulated occludin expression, inhibited the migration and proliferation of HRCECs, and inhibited the formation of TLSs. Thus, HESR1 plays a key role in the finely tuned network of molecules involved in the regulation of retinal vascular homeostasis. HESR1 seems to inhibit the vessel-promoting effects of VEGF, shift endothelial cells from a proliferative state to a quiescent state, and restore normal vessel structures. Expression of the HESR1 gene in retinal vascular endothelial cells may protect retinal blood vessels and may be useful in the treatment of diseases involving damage to the retinal vasculature, including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and retinal vein occlusion. Abstract: Redox-active metals are of paramount importance for biological functions. Their impact and cellular activities participate in the physiological and pathophysiological processes of the central nervous system (CNS), including inflammatory responses. Manganese is an essential trace element and it is required for normal biological activities and ubiquitous enzymatic reactions. However, excessive chronic exposure to manganese results in neurobehavioral deficits. Recent evidence suggests that manganese neurotoxicity involves activation of microglia or astrocytes, representative CNS immune cells. In this study, we assessed the molecular basis of the effects of manganese on the modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines and nitric oxide (NO) production in primary rat cortical glial cells. Cultured glial cells consisted of 85% of astrocytes and 15% of microglia. Within the assayed concentrations, manganese was unable to induce tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression, whereas it potentiated iNOS and TNF-α gene expression by lipopolysaccharide/interferon-γ-activated glial cells. The enhancement was accompanied by elevation of free manganese, generation of oxidative stress, activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases, and increased NF-κB and AP-1 binding activities. The potentiated degradation of inhibitory molecule IκB-α was one of underlying mechanisms for the increased activation of NF-κB by manganese. However, manganese decreased iNOS enzymatic activity possibly through the depletion of cofactor since exogenous tetrahydrobiopterin reversed manganese''s action. Abstract: The cellular signaling molecules that underlie Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV)-induced inflammation and neurotoxicity are not well understood. We examined whether protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) inhibitors play roles in JEV replication and cytopathic effect in neuron/glia cultures. JEV infection caused significant neuronal injury. PTK inhibitors, genistein, herbimycin A, and PP2, attenuated JEV-induced neurotoxicity but failed to affect JEV replication. Infection of neuron/glia cultures with JEV produced elevated levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β). PTK inhibitors suppressed JEV-induced TNF-α and IL-1β production at the transcriptional level. Neutralizing antibodies against TNF-α and IL-1β partially suppressed JEV-induced neurotoxicity. JEV infection modulated tyrosine phosphorylation events within the course of infection. Currently, the nature of the affected phosphorylated proteins was not characterized. Our results suggest that PTKs, especially Src-related PTK, play roles in the production of TNF-α and IL-1β during JEV infection and in the induction of neuronal death in neuron/glia cultures.
