Neuroblastoma is remarkable for its various presentations ranging from spontaneous remission to rapid disease progression and death. Disease stage and age at diagnosis are the most predictive clinical markers of outcome. Prognostic biological markers related to cell cycle and signal transduction have been identified in the past two decades. A risk-based treatment strategy has allowed for dose escalation in low- and intermediate risk patients. But the prognosis of high-risk patients remains dismal despite intensified multimodal therapies. This review discusses the current treatments and their results, and the innovative approaches aiming at eradicating minimal residual disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
