Purpose: Oral mucositis is a common complication for patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and causes pain and difficulties in functions like eating and swallowing, resulting in lower quality of life and greater need of treatment with opioids and parenteral nutrition. This prospective multicenter study focused on pediatric recipients of HSCT in the neutropenic phase concerning oral complications, timing, severity, and patient experience. Methods: The cohort comprised 68 patients, median age 11.1 years (IQR 6.3) receiving allogeneic HSCT at three clinical sites. Medical records were retrieved for therapy regimens, concomitant medications, oral and dental history, and subjective oral complaints. Calibrated dentists conducted an oral and dental investigation before HSCT. After HSCT graft infusion, study personnel made bedside assessments and patients filled out a questionnaire once or twice a week until neutrophil engraftment. Results: We followed 63 patients through the neutropenic phase until engraftment. 50% developed oral mucositis of grades 2–4. Peak severity occurred at 8–11 days after stem cell infusion. Altogether, 87% had subjective oral complaints. The temporal distribution of adverse events is similar to the development of oral mucositis. The most bothersome symptoms were blisters and oral ulcerations, including mucositis; 40% reported severe pain and major impact on activities of daily living despite continuous use of opioids. Background: Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are multifactorial, and high levels of stress seem to increase symptoms. The association with exposure to violence has not been explored in adolescent populations. Objective: To examine the association of self‐reported symptoms of temporomandibular pain and jaw dysfunction with child physical abuse, intimate partner violence, forced sexual intercourse, and bullying victimisation. Methods: An epidemiological, cross‐sectional, school‐based study was conducted in Olinda, northeast Brazil. The sample comprised 2,431 adolescents aged 14–19 years. TMD‐related symptoms and exposure to violence were assessed with questions from the 3Q/TMD screener and queries on exposure to different forms of violence. Multilevel logistic regressions were conducted to evaluate how 3Q screen‐positive responses are associated with self‐reported exposure to violence. Results: Self‐reported TMD‐related symptoms had a prevalence of 40.5%. Significantly more females than males screened positive to all 3Q/TMD questions (p <.001). Adolescents experiencing intimate partner violence (p =.012) and bullying (p <.001) had significantly higher odds of 3Q positive responses than those who reported no exposure to violence. Significant associations of TMD‐related symptoms with forced sexual intercourse (p =.014) and with bullying (p =.007) were observed. Conclusion: Adolescents with self‐reported symptoms of temporomandibular pain and jaw dysfunction were significantly more often exposed to some type of violence. Aim: To evaluate oral health outcomes and early oral health promotion of children in a Swedish, parental support programme conducted in a collaboration between Child Health Services and Social Services. Methods: The intervention offered first‐time parents six home visits from a paediatric nurse and a parental advisor with Social Services. On the fourth visit (infant age 6‐8 months), parents received a toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste from non‐dental staff. Twice, at child ages 18 and 36 months, a dentist used the International Caries Detection and Assessment System to record caries and conducted a structured interview with the parents on oral health habits. The intervention group (n = 72) was compared to a reference group (n = 100) from the standard child healthcare programme, which included one home visit. Results: Significantly, caries prevalence was lower and tooth brushing habits more consistent in the intervention group compared to the reference group in the standard child health programme. The difference was most pronounced at 18 months and had decreased at the 36‐month follow‐up. Conclusion: The extended postnatal home visiting programme had a positive impact on oral health. To determine the association between maternal age at delivery and caries in offspring. This registry-based cohort study included all children born between 2000 and 2003 and who were residing in Stockholm County, Sweden, at 7 years of age. Between 2007 and 2010, the cohort (n = 65,259) was examined to determine caries experience (deft scores) at 7 years of age. Age of mother at childbirth was retrieved from the patient histories. Data were analysed using linear regressions. The lowest mean deft occurred in children born to mothers aged 25–34 years. The final model – adjusted for sex, income, educational level, migration background, family situation, smoking, obesity, small for gestational age, and number of siblings – found that young mothers and older mothers were significant risk indicators for caries experience at 7 years of age. The present study found a U-shaped relationship between maternal age at childbirth and caries experience in the offspring at age 7 years. Aim: To study trends in prevalence and risk factors of child physical abuse over 10 years in Sweden.Methods: This study analysed responses from school surveys in 2008, 2011, 2014 and 2017 in Södermanland County, Sweden with average 5125 respondents per year, 15 and 17 years old. There were identical questions on exposure to violence and risk factors including parental employment, separated parents, disability or disease, foreign background and lack of adult support. Intimate partner violence was included at three occasions. Data were analysed with bi- and multivariate models, and mean of accumulated risks were compared.Results: Child physical abuse decreased significantly between 2008 and 2017. Repeated abuse decreased to a less degree than abuse once. In bivariate analyses, the share of risk factors declined for those exposed to physical abuse. In multiple analyses, it was found significant associations with exposure. There was and a dose-relationship between numbers of accumulated risk categories and self-reported abuse.Conclusion: Exposure to child physical abuse decreased substantially between 2008 and 2017. However, prevalence of abuse is still unacceptable, and the finding that prevalence of the more severe forms of CPA decreased less during the same time, draws attention to the need of ongoing efforts. Aim: An individual with a blood–injection–injury (BII) phobia often avoids exposure to triggers, such as blood tests and clinic appointments, leading to potentially serious health complications. This population‐based study examined the prevalence, stability and course of BII phobia in children and adolescents. Methods: The data came from the Trondheim Early Secure Study, conducted from 2007 to 2018. All children born in Trondheim, Norway, in 2003 and 2004 were invited to attend. Clinical interviews were conducted by trained personnel to assess BII phobia in 1042 children (51% female) every 2 years from 4 to 14 years of age. Latent growth curves and logistic regression analyses were used in the data analysis. Results: Just under 20% of the cohort experienced a BII phobia at least once, with no significant sex differences. The prevalence of BII phobias increased from 3% at 4 years of age and peaked at about 8% at 10 years of age, before levelling off. The two‐year stability increased as 12–14 years of age approached. Conclusion: The prevalence of BII was affected by age, but not sex. Early BII phobias often recede with time, but children may need treatment if they persist from 8 years of age. Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a heterogeneous group of disorders of connective tissue, caused mainly by mutations in the collagen I genes (COL1A1 and COL1A2). Dentinogenesis imperfecta (DGI) and other dental aberrations are common features of OI. We investigated the association between collagen I mutations and DGI, taurodontism, and retention of permanent second molars in a retrospective cohort of 152 unrelated children and adolescents with OI. The clinical examination included radiographic evaluations. Teeth from 81 individuals were available for histopathological evaluation. COL1A1/2 mutations were found in 104 individuals by nucleotide sequencing. DGI was diagnosed clinically and radiographically in 29% of the individuals (44/152) and through isolated histological findings in another 19% (29/152). In the individuals with a COL1A1 mutation, 70% (7/10) of those with a glycine substitution located C-terminal of p.Gly305 exhibited DGI in both dentitions while no individual (0/7) with a mutation N-terminal of this point exhibited DGI in either dentition (p = 0.01). In the individuals with a COL1A2 mutation, 80% (8/10) of those with a glycine substitution located C terminal of p.Gly211 exhibited DGI in both dentitions while no individual (0/5) with a mutation N-terminal of this point (p = 0.007) exhibited DGI in either dentition. DGI was restricted to the deciduous dentition in 20 individuals. Seventeen had missense mutations where glycine to serine was the most prevalent substitution (53%). Taurodontism occurred in 18% and retention of permanent second molars in 31% of the adolescents. Dental aberrations are strongly associated with qualitatively changed collagen I. The varying expressivity of DGI is related to the location of the collagen I mutation. This study evaluated whether toddlers in an extended preventive program of semiannual fluoride varnish applications from 1 year of age had a lower incidence of caries than those undergoing a standard program. A cohort of 1-year-old children (n = 3,403) living in multicultural areas of low socioeconomic standing in Stockholm participated in a cluster-randomized controlled field trial with two parallel arms. The children attended 23 dental clinics. Using the ICDAS II criteria, the examiners recorded caries at baseline and after 1 and 2 years. The children in the reference group received a standardized oral health program once yearly between 1 and 3 years of age. The children in the test group received the same standard program supplemented with topical applications of fluoride varnish every 6 months. We compared the test group and the reference group for the prevalence and increment of caries. At baseline, 5% of the children had already developed caries (ICDAS II 1-6). We reexamined the children after 1 year (n = 2,675) and after 2 years (n = 2,536). Neither prevalence nor caries increment differed between the groups. At 3 years of age, 12% of the children had developed moderate and severe carious lesions (ICDAS II 3-6), with a mean increment of 0.5 (SD 2.4) in the test group and 0.6 (SD 2.2) in the reference group. In conclusion, semiannual professional applications of fluoride varnish, as a supplement to a standard oral health program, failed to reduce caries development in toddlers from high-risk communities. Dental anxiety is associated with previous distressing dental experiences, such as lack of understanding of the dentist intentions, perceptions of uncontrollability and experiences of pain during dental treatment. People with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are impaired in building flexible predictions and expectations, which is very much needed during a dental visit. The aims of the study were to investigate if people with ASD have more negative dental experiences and a higher level of dental anxiety compared to a matched control group. Forty-seven adults with ASD and of normal intellectual performance, and 69 age- and sex-matched typically developing controls completed questionnaires on previous dental experiences and dental anxiety, theDental Anxiety Scale, and the Dental Beliefs Survey. The ASD group experienced pain during dental treatments more often than the controls and 22% had repeatedly experienced being forced to dental treatment they were not prepared for, compared to 3% of the controls. A higher level of dental anxiety was reported by the ASD group. Dental treatment and methods for supporting the communication with patients with ASD need to be developed, in order to reduce the negative dental experiences and dental anxiety in people with ASD. Summary: To study salivary secretion rates and symptoms of xerostomia in children and adolescents conditioned with either radiation therapy or with chemotherapy only in the setting of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Thirty patients conditioned with 10Gy single dose TBI (sTBI) and cyclophosphamide (Cy) 60mg/kg for two days and 35 conditioned busulfan (Bu) and Cy as part of the preparative regimen were included in the study. All patients were treated before 13years of age, and had survived 2–16years after HSCT. All patients were interviewed according to a standard questionnaire on symptoms of xerostomia and the unstimulated and stimulated whole salivary secretion rate was determined. The stimulated salivary secretion rates were 0.8±0.5ml/min in sTBI/Cy group compared to 1.1±0.6ml/min in the Bu/Cy group (p =0.01). Dysfunction of either unstimulated or stimulated salivary secretion rates were found in 18/30 (60%) in sTBI/Cy group and 9/35 (26%) in Bu/Cy group (p <0.01). There were no differences regarding the number of xerostomia related symptoms in children conditioned with either sTBI/Cy or Bu/Cy. Both unstimulated and stimulated salivary secretion rates were inversely correlated to the total number of complaints of xerostomia. This study shows that children exhibit xerostomia after HSCT irrespective of conditioning with busulfan or sTBI. High-dose chemotherapy or chemoradiotherapy followed by hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is being used for an ever increasing number of children with malignant or nonmalignant disorders, and improved results are leading to an ever increasing number of long-term survivors. Understanding the delayed effects that may occur after HCT is important in determining the evaluations to perform for this unique group of patients. The articles that follow detail what has been observed to date regarding the oral cavity and dental late effects, the kidney after HCT, and the evaluations to perform to determine late effects when patients return to the centers after their HCT. With the improving cure rate in childhood malignancies, increasing interest has been focused on the long-term survivors of childhood cancer and the quality of their life. The severity of long-term disturbances in dental and craniofacial development is dependent on the age of the child at diagnosis, if chemotherapy is combined with radiation or not. With regard to craniofacial development combination chemotherapy has no effects compared with healthy controls, whereas children treated cranial irradiation before 5 years of age exhibit a reduced growth of the mandible. Conditioning before bone marrow transplantation with total body irradiation results in a significantly reduced growth of the craniofacial skeleton. The mandible was four times more radiosensitive compared with the maxilla. With attention to the dental and craniofacial development, occlusion and craniomandibular function, children in risk groups should be followed, and given prophylactic treatment and intervention at appropriate times to reduce the consequences of the disease itself and the therapy given. The effect of growth hormone (GH) treatment on craniofacial development was studied in five children exhibiting growth retardation following bone marrow transplantation. Linear and angular measurements were made on lateral radiographic cephalograms taken prior to the start of GH treatment and after an average treatment time of 1.2 yr. The results showed that the mean growth increments of mandibular length in the GH treated children, exceeded the corresponding values of the control group by 150% during the period of investigation. It is suggested that this dimensional increase in the patients was due to GH stimulation on the chondral growth process in the mandibular condyles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Oral mucous membrane lesions were studied in 54 children below 12 yr of age treated with allogeneic bone marrow transplantation on mainly because of hematological malignancies. Sixty-two percent of the children exhibited a wide range of oral side effects during therapy. Lesions observed during the first 2 wk prior to engraftment of the donor marrow were related to the chemo- and radiotherapy given. Oral ulcerations were seen in 34% of the children. Children given methotrexate as graft-vesus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis exhibited oral ulcerations significantly (P≤0.05) more often than those given cyclosporin. Oral lesions related to acute GVHD were only observed in two patients. Reactivating herpes simplex virus infection was seen in 35% of the children who were seropositive prior to BMT. An extensive oral candidiasis was observed in 15% of the patients. All six children with a chronic GVHD exhibited changes in the oral mucosa 2-4 yr after transplantation such as erythma of the mucous membranes, tongue atrophy and also lichenoid changes in the buccal mucosa. The immunohistochemical occurrence of several different neuronal markers has been investigated in human gingiva with phenytoin-induced overgrowth. The material was compared to gingival material taken following surgical orthodontic treatment, Gingiva obtained from the phenytoin-treated groups seemed to have a reduced number of neurofilament (NF) immunoreactive nerve fibers in the propria compared to control material. In both phenytoin as well as control gingiva sparsely distributed, thin, calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and substance P (SP) immunoreactive fibers were found in the propria. No obvious differences between the two groups could be observed for CGRP and SP. Immunoreactive cells for somatostatin (SOM) with a dendritic cell shape were found in the propria in both groups, sometimes in densely packed clusters. A tendency for increase of SOM-immunoreactive cells in the phenytoin-treated gingiva was observed, A few γ-melanocyte stimulating hormone (γ-MSH)-immunoreactive cells with a round appearance were found in control as well as phenytoin -affected gingiva. In one instance, however, a heavy γ-MSH-immunoreactive cell infiltration was seen in the phenytoin sample. No immunoreactivity in either the phenytoin-treated group or in the control group was seen for proctolin or galanin. The in vitro synthesis of sulfated glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) was studied in gingival fibroblasts from two patients exhibiting phenytoin(PHT)-induced gingival overgrowth, i.e. pseudopockets, which required surgical excision, front one patient on PHT medication not exhibiting pseudopockets and from two normal controls. The results showed that the newly synthesized GAGs were distributed to the culture medium, to a pericellular - and to the cell fraction. Gingival fibroblasts from the PHT-induced gingival overgrowth showed a significantly increased incorporation of 35SO42- into GAGs compared to the other strains, and this increase was mainly confined to the dermatan sulfite fraction. These results are in accordance with our previous biochemical studies where increased amounts of GAGs were found in gingival biopsies from the GAG-induced lesion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Out of 374 schoolchildren, aged 13-15 yr, 42 with high counts of salivary lactobacilli (≥ 105) were selected for this study. Lysozyme activity in saliva and L( +)-lactic acid (LA) production after addition of glucose were determined. The mean values of lysozyme activity and LA concentration were 19.4 μg/ml and 1.4 mmol/1 respectively. The levels of LA produced without addition of glucose were < 0.2 mmol/l. The results showed a statistically significant (P< 0.05) negative correlation between lysozyme activity and the levels of LA produced. Oral health was studied in a group of asthmatic children (n = 61). The children were divided in two groups, 5-10 and 11-18 yr of age. The individuals with asthma were flanker subgroups with respect to the disease severity. Severe asthma was defined as more than 10 asthmatic attacks per year. This patient group had daily medication compared to children with moderate asthma (<10 asthmatic attacks/yr) who medicated temporarily. 55 age matched children from the same area made up the control group. All children were examined clinically and two bitewing radiographs were taken. The result showed no statistically significant differences concerning caries prevalence and gingival condition in asthmatic children compared to a healthy control group. The effect of phenytoin and its major metabolite p-HPPH on concanavalin A (ConA) induced DNA-synthesis of human lymphocytes was studied in vitro. In lymphocyte cultures depleted of phagocytizing cells by iron treatment PHT and p-HPPH, in pharmacologic concentrations, caused a depression of the mitogen response measured as uptake of ³H-thymidine. In contrast, the presence of phagocytizing mononuclear cells during ConA-stimulation in the presence of PHT and p-HPPH caused a potentiation of ConA induced DNA-synthesis. These effects of phenytoin on immunocompetent cells may be of significance in the pathogenesis of the PHT-induced gingival overgrowth, since earlier we have reported the presence of large infiltrates of lymphocytes, mainly T-lymphocytes in gingival biopsies from clinically non-inflamed PHT- induced gingival overgrowth. The presence of mononuclear cells was studied in gingival biopsies from seven children exhibiting phenytoin(PHT)-induced gingival overgrowth, three children with gingivitis and a control group consisting of three children without clinical signs of inflammation. The mononuclear cells were detected using monoclonal antibodies defining functional T-lymphocyte subpopulations, B-lymphocytes and monocytes. Gingival biopsies from the individuals in the PHT-group showed a substantial number of mononuclear cells. The distribution of mononuclear cells in separate individuals were as follows: 69-95% OKT3 +/Leu4+ cells (T-lymphocytes), 50-64% OKT4+ /Leu3 + cells (T-helper phenotype) and 29-46% OKT8 + cells (T-suppressor/cytotoxic phenotype). None of the biopsies in the PHT-group contained more than a few scattered plasma cells. The vast majority of all mononuclear cells present in the biopsies reacted with OKIal, a monoclonal antibody defining the HLA-DR framework. In contrast, biopsies from the control group and the gingivitis group contained few mononuclear cells, the majority of which were cells. This suggests that immunologic reactions mediated by T-cells may play a role in the pathogenesis of the PHT-induced lesion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Gingival overgrowth was assessed in renal transplant children, 19 boys and 13 girls, aged 2.5- 18 yr. who had been on a cyclosporin-A (CsA)-based immunosuppressive regimen for at least 12 months Data collected included number of posttransplant months, total CsA dose administered during the first 6 post- transplant months, oral dose and blood trough level of CsA on the day of examination, plaque accumulation (VPI%), gingival inflammation (GBI%), loss of attachment, and gingival overgrowth Thirteen percent of the children exhibited gingival overgrowth characterized by one or more units with increased sulcus probing depth (&ges;4 mm), i e pseudopockets The total amount of CsA administered during the first 6 posttransplant months was significantly higher in the children with gingival overgrowth than in those without. The study indicates that the development of CsA-induced gingival overgrowth is positively related to the total dose of the drug administered to the children during the first 6 posttransplant months. The periodontal condition and caries experience was studied in noninstitutionalized epileptic children (n = 55) who had not been subjected to any additional preventive measures. The children were distributed in a phenytoin (PHT) group with a mean age of 13.2 yr and a control group (mean age 11.8 yr) consisting of children treated with other anticonvulsants. The PHT group had a DF-s mean value of 5.4 in comparison to 7.2 in the control group. Determinations of gingival overgrowth based on the presence of gingival units with increased probing depth (> 4 mm) as well as the thickness of the marginal gingiva in buccolingual dimension measured on stone casts were performed. Although the plaque level and degree of gingival inflammation were similar in the two groups, 43% of the children in the PHT group showed one or more gingival units with increased probing depth (> 4 mm), but none in the control group. The thickness of the marginal gingiva was significantly (P< 0.001) higher in the phenytoin-treated children compared to children who had never had phenytoin medication. In the PHT-group gingival overgrowth based on gingival units with increased probing depth was statistically significantly and positively associated with the variables gingivitis (P< 0.05), visible plaque index (P<0.01), age (P<0.01) and years on PHT therapy (P<0.05). Colonization with mutans streptococci was studied in 1095 1-year-old children living in suburban Stockholm. During a scheduled vaccination appointment at a child health centre, a bacterial sample was obtained from the child's tongue and a structured questionnaire was completed by the accompanying parent. Six percent of the subjects were colonized with mutans streptococci. The variables most strongly correlated with presence of mutans streptococci were: non-Swedish back- ground, consumption of sugar-containing beverages at night and total consumption of sugar-containing beverages. The results indicate that, by the age of 1 year, maternally influenced behavior patterns such as dietary habits that may predispose to early colonization of mutans streptococci are already established. Treatment with intravenous bisphosphonate (BP) in children and adolescents with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) started in Sweden in 1991. No human studies on the role of BP therapy in development of disturbances in tooth mineralization or tooth morphology have been published. The study cohort comprised 219 individuals who were divided into four groups: group 1, BP treatment onset before 2 years of age (n = 22); group 2, BP treatment onset between 2 and 6 years of age (n = 20); group 3, BP treatment onset between 6 and 10 years of age (n = 13); and a control group of patients with OI who had not received BP therapy (n = 164). The chi-square test was used in between-group comparisons of the prevalence of tooth agenesis. The prevalence of tooth agenesis was significantly higher in children who began BP treatment before the age of 2 years (group 1; 59%,) compared to the controls (10%; p < 0.001) and to children who had begun BP therapy between ages 2 and 6 years (group 2; 10%; p = 0.009) or between ages 6 and 10 years (group 3; 8%; p = 0.003). Different types of disturbances in the enamel formation were seen in 52 premolars, where 51 were seen in those who began BP treatment before the age of 2 years. To conclude, starting BP treatment before the age of 2 years increases the risk of abnormalities in tooth formation manifesting as morphological aberrations, tooth agenesis, and enamel defects. Objective: To economically evaluate a caries-preventive program "Stop Caries Stockholm" (SCS) where a standard program is supplemented with biannual applications of fluoride varnish in toddlers and compared it with the standard preventive program.Material and Methods: Data from the cluster randomized controlled field trial SCS including 3403 children, conducted in multicultural areas with low socioeconomic status was used. The difference in mean caries increment between the examinations; when the toddlers were 1 and 3 years old, was outcome measure of the intervention. The program was evaluated from a societal as well as a dental health care perspective. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) was calculated as the incremental cost for each defs prevented.Results: Average dental health care costs per child at age 3 years were EUR 95.77 for the supplemental intervention and EUR 70.52 for the standard intervention. The ICER was EUR 280.56 from a dental health care perspective and EUR 468.67 and considered high.Conclusions: The supplemental caries intervention program was not found to be cost-effective. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between body mass index (BMI kg/m2), the inflammatory mediator tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFalpha), and interleukin-8 (-8) in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) from 32 obese subjects aged between 13 and 24 years. Gingival inflammation (GBI %), pathological pocket depths, and alveolar bone loss diagnosed on radiographs were recorded. The GCF was collected from six sites per subject using periopaper, and the volume was determined using Peritron 8000. The levels of TNFalpha and IL-8 were determined using ELISA kits. Within the whole group, there was no significant relationship between BMI and the variables age, GBI %, number of periodontal pockets, smoking, and the levels of TNFalpha or IL-8. In subjects with BMI > or =40, however, there was a statistically significant correlation (r= 0.74, P< 0.01) between the level of TNFalpha in GCF and BMI. The correlation coefficient between BMI and TNFalpha in subjects with BMI > or =40 differed significantly (P< 0.05) compared to that between subjects with BMI <40. The level of TNFalpha in GCF was positively correlated (P< 0.05) with BMI in subjects with no periodontal pathological pocket. No significant correlation was found between the level of IL-8 and BMI. The results indicate that BMI positively correlates with TNFalpha in GCF in the group of young subjects with BMI > or =40 as well as in the subjects with no pathological periodontal pocket (> or =4 mm) and that TNFalpha in GCF may be affected by the obese condition through a systemic effect. Human mononuclear cells purified by Lymphoprep flotation were incubated with phenytoin (PHT) (20 μg/ml) or its metabolite p-HPPH (2 μg/ml) in the presence of Concanavalin A (10 μg/ml) in vitro. The results indicate that phenytoin and its metabolite p-HPPH induce the release of a mononuclear cell factor(s) that activates quiescent human gingival fibroblast to synthesize DNA. Background: Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is a rare, genetically determined defect in enamel mineralization associated with poor esthetics and dental sensitivity. Because the condition is associated with negative social outcomes, this study evaluated oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), dental fear, and dental beliefs before and after early prosthetic crown therapy for AI during adolescence.Methods: The study included 69 patients with AI, aged 6-25 yr: 33 males and 36 females (mean age 14.5 ± 4.3); healthy controls (n = 80), patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP; n = 30), and patients with molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH; n = 39). All matched in age and gender, and all but the CLP group insocioeconomic area. Patients completed three questionnaires measuring OHRQoL (OHIP-14), dental fear (CFSS-DS), and dental beliefs (DBS-R). Twenty-six patients with severe AI between ages 9 and 22 yr received crown therapy and completed the questionnaires twice: before and after therapy.Results: OHIP-14 scores were significantly higher among patients with AI (7.0 ± 6.7), MIH (6.8 ± 7.6) and CLP (13.6 ± 12.1) than healthy controls (1.4 ± 2.4) (p < 0.001). After crown therapy, quality of life problems in the 26 patients with severe AI decreased significantly, from 7.8 ± 6.1 to 3.0 ± 4.8 (p < 0.001). Early prosthetic therapy did not increase dental fear or negative attitudes toward dental treatment.Conclusions: OHRQoL increased after early crown therapy in patients with severe AI. For prevention of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), treatment of 24 haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) patients with sirolimus and tacrolimus was compared to treatment of matched controls with cyclosporine-based regimens. The patients mainly had non-malignant disorders. Two-thirds of the donors were unrelated, and bone marrow was the most common source of stem cells. Rejection occurred in four patients in the sirolimus group and three in the control group. Donor chimerism for CD3, CD19 and CD33 was similar in the two groups. The cumulative incidence of grade II acute GVHD was 22% in the sirolimus patients and 17% in the controls ( P = 0.78). No patients developed acute GVHD of grades III-IV. The cumulative incidence of chronic GVHD was 25% and 37% in the two groups, respectively ( P = 0.40). Two patients in the sirolimus group developed Epstein-Barr virus lymphoma, and none in the controls. Side effects and toxicity were similar in the two groups. There was no transplant-related mortality at 5 yr in the sirolimus group, as opposed to 8% in the controls ( P = 0.47). Survival at 5 yr was 95% and 92%. Thus, sirolimus combined with tacrolimus is a promising immunosuppressive regimen in HSCT, also for non-malignancies, and its efficacy should be confirmed in prospective clinical trials. In patients with severe congenital neutropenia (SCN), the absolute neutrophil count (ANC) is raised during treatment with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF), resulting in a marked reduction of bacterial infection. Some patients, however, still have recurrent but less severe bacterial infections and severe periodontal infections. As it has been suggested that the biological activity of glycosylated recombinant human G-CSF (rHuG-CSF, i.e. lenograstim) is higher than the non-glycosylated form (i.e. filgrastim), we compared the two given in equimolar doses. Seven SCN patients participated in an open, randomized, double crossover study comprising 60 weeks, with four 12-week periods when the two drugs alternated after a 12-week run-in-period. The mean ANC values, sampled every second week, were 5·1 × 109/l during filgrastim treatment and 4·2 × 109/l during lenograstim treatment (P = 0·042). The ANC levels were also significantly higher during filgrastim treatment, when comparing each complementary pair of ANC measurements (P = 0·011) as well as the mean ANC values during each 12-week treatment period (P = 0·033). There were no differences regarding the frequency of infection, antibiotic treatment, gingival bleeding and the number of hospital admissions between the groups. We conclude that filgrastim and lenograstim displayed equal clinical efficacy, but that ANC levels were higher during filgrastim treatment, when administered in equimolar doses. The orofacial function in 20 children with Down syndrome was evaluated after 4 years of palatal plate therapy in 9 of the children (PPG); the remaining 11 were untreated age-matched controls (CG). All 20 children had received continuous orofacial physical therapy from their speech therapist during the treatment period. A clinical extra- and intraoral examination was performed, including oral motor function, facial expression, the occurrence of malocclusions, and hypertrophic tonsils. A questionnaire requesting data on breathing patterns, drooling, eating problems, and communicative preferences was answered by the parents. An articulation assessment was performed by two speech and language pathologists blinded to the treatment status of the children in order to find out whether the palatal plate had stimulated to improved oral speech behavior. The results for oral motor function showed significant differences between the groups in favor of the PPG for the summary variables for: visible tongue (P < 0.01), visible tongue during non-speech periods (P < 0.05), and lip-rounding during spontaneous speech (P < 0.01). During non-speech time, the PPG had their mouths open significantly less than the CG (P < 0.05). Expressivity of facial expression on a visual analog scale in the PPG scored 75.6 +/- 13.3 compared to 51.8 +/- 25.7 in the CG (P < 0.05). The intraoral examination showed that 6/9 children in the PPG and 7/11 in the CG had enlarged tonsils, resulting in more than 50% inter-tonsillary space reduction. Despite these findings, and no significant differences between the groups with respect to mouth/ nose breathing, nocturnal snoring was significantly less in the PPG than in the CG (P < 0.05), according to the parental questionnaire. Aim: To study the association of parental country of origin—expressed as low‐, medium‐ and high‐Human Development Index (HDI) countries—with caries experience in children of immigrant families in Stockholm. Methods: This registry‐based cohort study included all children born in 2000–2003 who resided in Stockholm County, Sweden, at age 3 years (n = 83,147) with follow‐up at 7 years of age. A logistic regression was performed for the multivariate analysis with adjustments for socio‐demographic factors. Results: After adjustments, logistic regression analyses revealed that, compared with Swedish children of the same age, the risk of caries was highest when the immigrant parents originated in a medium (OR 4.22 (95% CI 3.99:4.47)) or low (OR 2.80 (95% CI 2.56:3.06)) income country background at age 7 years, but was increased also for high‐income country background, OR 1.77 (95% CI 1.52–2.05). Furthermore, the risk of presenting with caries experience at age 7 years increased for all children in the 1st (lowest) household income quintile in the host country Sweden. Conclusion: This study shows that the developmental level of the parental country of birth as well as the family socioeconomic position in Sweden influence the risk for caries development in their children. Objectives: To determine whether treatment with tacrolimus plus sirolimus (Tac/Sir) as a prophylaxis for graft‐versus‐host disease worsens severe oral mucositis and delays healing compared to cyclosporine plus methotrexate (CsA/Mtx) following haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Subjects and Methods: The study comprised 141 patients: 73 randomized to receive Tac/Sir and 68 to receive CsA/Mtx. The oral mucositis assessment scale and toxicity grading according to WHO were used to assess the severity, peak and duration of oral mucositis from the day −3 to day 24 post‐transplant. Results: Eighty‐seven patients developed oral mucositis in the first 24 days post‐transplant. No significant difference in oral mucositis severity between the Tac/Sir and CsA/Mtx groups was observed. The peak oral mucositis score occurred on day 10 in both groups. Although oral mucositis scores had returned to baseline in the CsA/Mtx group on day 24 post‐transplant, no significant difference compared with the Tac/Sir group was found. Conclusions: The introduction of tacrolimus/sirolimus as a graft‐versus‐host disease prophylaxis in haematopoietic stem cell transplantation increased neither the incidence nor severity of oral mucositis compared with cyclosporine/methotrexate. Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a heterogeneous connective tissue disorder characterized by repeated fractures and skeletal disorders. At present, bisphosphonate (BP) therapy is the gold standard for OI treatment. The present retrospective study evaluated the effect of BP therapy on tooth development and eruption of permanent teeth in a cohort of children receiving pamidronate. Three groups were studied: patients with OI who were treated with BPs (n = 45), patients with OI who were not treated with BPs (n = 117), and age- and gender-matched healthy controls (n = 121). Dental age, dental maturity, and tooth eruption were assessed on panoramic radiographs using the methods of Demirjian et al. (Hum Biol 45(2):211–227, 1973) and Haavikko (Suom Hammaslaak Toim 66(3):103–170, 1970) and were evaluated using the t-test, Chi-square test, and the Mann–Whitney U test. Dental age in the study group was significantly (p < 0.05) lower than chronological age compared with both control groups. Dental maturity and the eruption of permanent teeth were also significantly (p < 0.05) delayed in the study group in relation to the two control groups. The dental age was significantly lower (p < 0.001) in patients with OI type III treated with BPs compared with healthy controls and the dental maturation was significantly delayed in patients with OI type IV treated with BPs compared with those not treated. In conclusion, BP therapy in OI patients seems to lower the dental age, delay the dental maturity, and tooth eruption. BP administration before 2 years of age might be a contributing factor. Background: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a heterogeneous connective tissue disorder characterized by an increased tendency for fractures throughout life. Autosomal dominant (AD) mutations in COL1A1 and COL1A2 are causative in approximately 85% of cases. In recent years, recessive variants in genes involved in collagen processing have been found. Hypodontia (< 6 missing permanent teeth) and oligodontia (≥ 6 missing permanent teeth) have previously been reported in individuals with OI. The aim of the present cross-sectional study was to investigate whether children and adolescents with OI and oligodontia and hypodontia also present with variants in other genes with potential effects on tooth development. The cohort comprised 10 individuals (7.7-19.9 years of age) with known COL1A1/A2 variants who we clinically and radiographically examined and further genetically evaluated by whole-genome sequencing. All study participants were treated at the Astrid Lindgren Children's Hospital at Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm (Sweden's national multidisciplinary pediatric OI team). We evaluated a panel of genes that were associated with nonsyndromic and syndromic hypodontia or oligodontia as well as that had been found to be involved in tooth development in animal models.Results: We detected a homozygous nonsense variant in CREB3L1, p.Tyr428*, c.1284C > A in one boy previously diagnosed with OI type III. COL1A1 and COL1A2 were the only two genes among 9 individuals which carried a pathogenic mutation. We found rare variants with unknown significance in several other genes related to tooth development.Conclusions: Our findings suggest that mutations in COL1A1, COL1A2, and CREB3L1 may cause hypodontia and oligodontia in OI. The findings cannot exclude additive effects from other modifying or interacting genes that may contribute to the severity of the expressed phenotype. Aim To assess the development of high dental anxiety and the factors that are associated with it over a 2-year period. Design This longitudinal study focused on 416 Brazilian children aged 5-7 years over 2 years. Interviews were conducted with the children's parents to investigate the children's health-related behaviours. Additionally, the children's dental caries experience was clinically evaluated to obtain information about DMFT/dmft (decayed, filled and missing teeth) indices. Using the Dental Anxiety Question, children whose parents responded 'yes' to the prompt 'Is he/she very afraid of going to the dentist?' were classified as having high dental anxiety. Multilevel mixed-effects logistic regression was used to analyse factors to determine the extent to which they were associated with high dental anxiety longitudinally. Results The prevalence of high dental anxiety in children at baseline was 16.2%, whereas it was 19.8% at follow-up. Additionally, 38% of the children with high dental anxiety at baseline still had the condition after two years, although 62% of them no longer had high dental anxiety. The incidence of high dental anxiety at 2-year follow-up was 15.0%. Children who used medication chronically had a 2.1 times greater likelihood of having high dental anxiety. Furthermore, children whose parents reported high dental anxiety had a 2.6 times greater likelihood of having high dental anxiety themselves. A one-unit increase in a child's dmft score increased the risk of high dental anxiety by 1.1 times at follow-up. Conclusion After two years, the incidence of high dental anxiety was 15.0%. Poor oral health, unstable general health and parents with high dental anxiety were factors that were associated with this type of anxiety in schoolchildren. It is important that dentists are aware of children's high dental anxiety and the associated factors so that they can appropriately intervene. Patients with Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) can present with rapid tooth loss or fractures of enamel as well as alterations in enamel thickness, color, and shape; factors that may compromise aesthetic appearance and masticatory function. The aim was to explore the experiences and perceptions of adolescents and young adults living with AI and receiving early prosthetic therapy. Seven patients with severe AI aged 16 to 23 years who underwent porcelain crown therapy participated in one-to-one individual interviews. The interviews followed a topic guide consisting of open-ended questions related to experiences of having AI. Transcripts from the interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis. The analysis process identified three main themes: Disturbances in daily life, Managing disturbances, and Normalization of daily life. These themes explain the experiences of patients living with enamel disturbances caused by AI and receiving early crown therapy. Experiences include severe pain and sensitivity problems, feelings of embarrassment, and dealing with dental staff that lack knowledge and understanding of their condition. The patients described ways to manage their disturbances and to reduce pain when eating or drinking, and strategies for meeting other people. After definitive treatment with porcelain crown therapy, they described feeling like a normal patient. In conclusion the results showed that adolescents and young adults describe a profound effect of AI on several aspects of their daily life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Oral mucositis (OM) is a severe side effect of conditioning for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between oral mucositis and the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines-both in serum and in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), in relation to different conditioning regimens. Methods: We analyzed the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-7, as well as anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and in serum from 43 HSCT patients. Twenty-five received reduced intensity conditioning (RIC) and 18 received myeloablative conditioning (MAC). Cytokine levels were determined in GCF and serum before the start of conditioning, and 1 week and 1 month after HSCT. All patients experienced OM with a median score of 2.1 and median peak on day 11. Results: There was a significant correlation between OM and MAC ( p = 0.035). There were no significant differences in GCF volume at the three time points examined. The levels of IL-6 in GCF increased 1 week after transplantation and then returned to baseline ( p < 0.001). The levels of IL-10 in GCF decreased after HSCT ( p < 0.001) and remained unchanged. The levels of IL-6 in serum significantly ( p < 0.001) increased 1 week after HSCT and decreased to baseline levels after 1 month. The levels of IL-10 in serum significantly ( p = 0.02) increased 1 month after HSCT. Conclusion: No correlations between cytokine levels in gingival crevicular fluid and oral mucositis were observed. There was a correlation between severity of OM score and increase in IL-6 in serum. No correlations between cytokine levels in gingival crevicular fluid and in serum were observed. Purpose: Hematology-oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients are at risk for oral complications which may cause significant morbidity and a potential risk of mortality. This emphasizes the importance of basic oral care prior to, during and following chemotherapy/HSCT. While scientific evidence is available to support some of the clinical practices used to manage the oral complications, expert opinion is needed to shape the current optimal protocols. Methods: This position paper was developed by members of the Oral Care Study Group, Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer/International Society of Oral Oncology (MASCC/ISOO) and the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) in attempt to provide guidance to the health care providers managing these patient populations. Results: The protocol on basic oral care outlined in this position paper is presented based on the following principles: prevention of infections, pain control, maintaining oral function, the interplay with managing oral complications of cancer treatment and improving quality of life. Conclusion: Using these fundamental elements, we developed a protocol to assist the health care provider and present a practical approach for basic oral care. This study examined the factors that lead specialists in pediatric dentistry to suspect child abuse or neglect and the considerations that influence the decision to report these suspicions to social services. Focus group discussions were used to identify new aspects of child maltreatment suspicion and reporting. Such discussions illuminate the diversity of informants' experiences, opinions, and reflections. Focus groups included 19 specialists and postgraduate students in pediatric dentistry. We conducted video-recorded focus group discussions at the informants' dental clinics. All sessions lasted approximately 1.5 h. We transcribed the discussions verbatim and studied the transcripts using thematic analysis, a method well-suited to evaluating the experiences discussed and how the informants understand them. The analysis process elicited key concepts and identified one main theme, which we labeled 'the dilemma of reporting child maltreatment'. We found this dilemma to pervade a variety of situations and divided it into three sub-themes: to support or report; differentiating concern for well-being from maltreatment; and the supportive or unhelpful consultation. Reporting a suspicion about child maltreatment seems to be a clinical and ethical dilemma arising from concerns of having contradicting professional roles, difficulties confirming suspicions of maltreatment, and perceived shortcomings in the child-protection system. This study investigated the association between self-perceived oral health and self-reported exposure to different types of child abuse. It was hypothesized that self-perceived oral health is compromised in exposed adolescents. All Grade-9 compulsory school and second-year high-school pupils in Södermanland County, Sweden ( n = 7,262) were invited to take part in a population-based survey; 5,940 adolescents responded. Survey items on health and social wellbeing included self-perceived oral health and exposure to abuse. The results showed that poor self-perceived oral health was associated with self-reported experience of physical abuse, intimate partner violence, forced sex, and bullying (adjusted OR = 2.3-14.7). The likelihood of reporting poor oral health increased from an adjusted OR of 2.1 for a single incident of abuse to an adjusted OR of 23.3 for multiple abuses. In conclusion, poor self-perceived oral health and previous exposure to child physical abuse, intimate partner violence, bullying, and forced sex is associated. It is important that dental professionals recognize adolescents with poor subjective oral health and take into consideration child abuse as a possible cause in order to prevent these adolescents from further victimization. Dental fear and anxiety (DFA), as well as dental behavior management problems, are common in children and adolescents. Several psychological factors in the child, and parental DFA, have been studied and found to correlate to the child's DFA. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between cognitive ability and DFA in a population-based group of children with identified behavior and learning problems. In conjunction with a dental examination at 11 yr of age, 70 children were assessed with regard to DFA using the Children's Fear Survey Schedule Dental Subscale (CFSS-DS), and their cognitive ability was assessed using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children. In addition, parental DFA was measured using the Corah Dental Anxiety Scale. The results revealed that DFA was significantly correlated to verbal intelligence quotient (IQ) but not to any other cognitive index. A significant correlation was found between parental DFA and child DFA. The results indicate that the child's verbal capacity may be one factor of importance in explaining dental fear in children. We analyzed the outcome of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) over the past 2 decades. Between 1992 and 2009, 953 patients were treated with HSCT, mainly for a hematologic malignancy. They were divided according to 4 different time periods of treatment: 1992 to 1995, 1996 to 2000, 2001 to 2005, and 2006 to 2009. Over the years, many factors have changed considerably regarding patient age, diagnosis, disease stage, type of donor, stem cell source, genomic HLA typing, cell dose, type of conditioning, treatment of infections, use of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF), use of mesenchymal stem cells, use of cytotoxic T cells, and home care. When we compared the last period (2006-2009) with earlier periods, we found slower neutrophil engraftment, a higher incidence of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) of grades II-IV, and less chronic GVHD (cGHVD). The incidence of relapse was unchanged over the 4 periods (22%-25%). Overall survival (OS) and transplant-related mortality (TRM) improved significantly in the more recent periods, with the best results during the last period (2006-2009) and a 100-day TRM of 5.5%. This improvement was also apparent in a multivariate analysis. When correcting for differences between the 4 groups, the hazard ratio for mortality in the last period was 0.59 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.44-0.79; P < .001) and for TRM it was 0.63 (CI: 0.43-0.92; P = .02). This study shows that the combined efforts to improve outcome after HSCT have been very effective. Even though we now treat older patients with more advanced disease and use more alternative HLA nonidentical donors, OS and TRM have improved. The problem of relapse still has to be remedied. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common developmental disorder. This study tested the hypothesis that children with ADHD exhibit a higher caries prevalence and poorer oral health behavior than children in a control group. Twenty-one children with ADHD and a control group of 79 children, all aged 13 yr, underwent a clinical dental examination and completed two questionnaires on dietary habits and dental hygiene habits. Differences between the groups regarding decayed, missed, or filled surfaces, decayed surfaces, initial caries lesions, and gingival inflammation were non-significant. Forty-eight percent in the ADHD group brushed their teeth every evening compared with 82% in the control group. The corresponding frequencies for brushing the teeth every morning were 48% and 75%. Children with ADHD were 1.74 times more likely to eat or drink more than five times a day than children in the control group. In conclusion, at age 13, children with ADHD do not exhibit a statistically significantly higher caries prevalence but do have poorer oral health behavior than children in a control group. The intervals between dental examinations of children with ADHD should be shorter than for other children to prevent a higher caries incidence in adolescence because of their oral health behavior. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common developmental disorder. The present study tested the hypotheses that children with ADHD, particularly those exhibiting severe hyperactivity and impulsivity, have a different stress reaction (measured by salivary cortisol) during a dental recall visit and are more dentally anxious than children in a control group. Eighteen children with ADHD and a control group of 71 children, all 13 yr of age, underwent a clinical dental examination and completed the Corah Dental Anxiety Scale (CDAS). Four saliva samples were gathered for analysis of cortisol: one prior to dental examination, one after, and two the following morning. The subgroup ADHD with hyperactivity/impulsivity had statistically significantly lower cortisol levels than the control group 30 min after awakening. When cortisol values were plotted on a timeline, this subgroup always had lower cortisol concentrations than children in the control group. There was a significant correlation between CDAS scores and cortisol concentrations prior to the dental examination in both the ADHD and the control group. Behavioral expressions of anxiety in children with ADHD may be different from those in other children, not only due to the characteristics of their disorder, but also because of lower stress reactivity. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common developmental disorder. The aim of this study was to investigate whether children with ADHD have a higher caries prevalence, a higher degree of dental anxiety, or more dental behavior management problems (BMP) than children of a control group. Twenty-five children with ADHD and a control group of 58 children, all aged 11 yr, were included in the study. The children underwent a clinical dental examination, and bitewing radiographs were taken. The parents completed the Dental Subscale of Children's Fear Survey Schedule (CFSS-DS). Dental records from the subjects were obtained, and data regarding notes on behavior management problems (BMP) of the children when between 3 and 10 yr of age were compiled. Compared with controls, children with ADHD had significantly higher decayed, missing or filled surfaces (DMFS) (2.0 ± 3.0 vs. 1.0 ± 1.5) and significantly higher decayed surfaces (DS) (1.7 ± 3.6 vs. 0.5 ± 0.9). Differences between the groups regarding CFSS-DS scores were non-significant. In the ADHD group, the prevalence of BMP increased when the children were between 7 and 9 yr of age. In conclusion, children with ADHD exhibited a higher caries prevalence, did not exhibit a higher degree of dental anxiety, and had more BMP than children of a control group. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to perform a detailed analysis of behavioural interactions between the dentist and the child patient with ADHD. All children born in 1991 ( n = 555) in one Swedish municipality were screened for attention and learning problems, and assessed for ADHD. Twenty-two children with ADHD, and a control group of 47 children without attention and learning problems, were included in the study. The dental recall visit was recorded on video. The interaction between the dentist and the child was analysed in detail and scored as verbal and non-verbal initiatives and responses. Compared to the children in the control group, the children with ADHD made significantly more initiatives, especially initiatives that did not focus on the examination or the dentist. The children with ADHD had fewer verbal responses and more missing responses. In conclusion, the problems in communication resulted in less two-way communication between the dentist and the children with ADHD than the interaction between the dentist and the children in the control group. The aim of this study was to investigate whether children with attention and learning problems had more dental behavior management problems (BMP), more cancelled and missed appointments, and more traumatic dental injuries compared with a control group. All children born in 1991 attending mainstream schools (n = 555) in one Swedish municipality were screened for behavioral and learning problems. Conners' 10-item questionnaire and a questionnaire focused on executive and learning problems were used. A total of 128 screen-positive patients were index cases and 131 screen-negative patients control cases. The dental records of these children were studied from 1 yr of age until the child reached 10 yr. Behavior management problems on at least one occasion were more common in the index group (54% vs. 37%). The percentage of appointments at which the children exhibited BMP was higher in the index group (13% vs. 7%). No differences were found for cancelled or missed appointments or dental traumatic injuries between the two groups. In conclusion, the results of this study show that children with attention and learning problems had significantly more dental behavior management problems compared with a control group.
