This study aimed to examine the effects of seed priming with different boron concentrations on the germination and seedling growth of spinach under drought-stress conditions. Seeds of the spinach cultivar Matador and sodium borate (Na2B8O13.4H2O) were used as materials. The seeds were primed with 0 (distilled water), 1, 10, 100, 500, and 1000 ppm B for 24 hours, with unprimed seeds serving as a control. Drought stress was induced by polyethylene glycol (PEG 6000) solution at a water potential of -3 bar and distilled water denoted as control conditions. A standard germination test was performed between papers at 20°C for 14 days. The germination percentage, mean germination time, germination index, seedling growth parameters, and root/shoot length ratio were investigated. The findings revealed that drought stress reduced germination percentage, germination index, and seedling growth of unprimed seeds of spinach. However, boron priming improved these parameters while mitigating the negative effects of drought stress. Under drought conditions, seed priming with 1 ppm B shortened mean germination time. Similarly, seedling fresh and dry weight of spinach were improved by seed priming with 100-1000 ppm B, whereas root growth was stimulated by 10 ppm B. The highest root/shoot ratio was found at 10 ppm B. Boron priming was more efficient in promoting seedling growth than germination in spinach. As a result, seed priming with 10-100 ppm B should be recommended to improve the germination and seedling growth performance of spinach in the event of drought stress after planting. This study focused on mitigating effects of an animal-derived biostimulant on sugar beet plantlets subjected to drought stress. The experiment was performed at the Seed Science and Technology Laboratory of the Eskişehir Osmangazi University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Field Crops, in 2024. It was established by the randomized plot 2x5 factorial experimental design (ANOVA) with four replications. The sugar beet cultivar Mohican was sprayed by an animalderived biostimulant (Andolamin®) containing 11% amino acids. Different levels of the biostimulant (control, 12.5, 25, 50, and 75 mL/L) were treated twice at 2-day intervals. Morphological and physiological measurements were made at 7 days after the first application on sugar beet plants grown under two irrigation regimes (water deficit (WD) 50% of field capacity and well-watered (WW) 80% of field capacity). The findings showed that drought had a hazardous impact on sugar beet's number of leaves (NL), fresh (LFW) and leaf dry weight (LDW), relative water content (RWC), and leaf area (LA). Leaf surface temperature (LST), chlorophyll content (Chl), and electrolyte leakage (EL) were higher in plants under water deficit. Foliar biostimulant application mitigated the effect of drought stress on seedlings through improving LFW, LDW, Chl, EL, and LA. On the other hand, biostimulant treatment had no significant effects on NL, and RWC in seedlings exposed to drought stress. It was concluded that animal-derived biostimulant application may be used for alleviating the harmful effects of drought stress and may stimulate the growth of sugar beet seedlings. The study was conducted to determine the sensitivity of forage pea to drought stress intensities and the contribution of smoke solutions in preventing this sensitivity. For the smoke solution, dried poppy harvest residues were prepared with a special mechanism. Within this scope, two different concentrations (1 and 10%) of poppy smoke solution were utilized in priming of two distinct forage pea varieties (Gap pembesi and Özkaynak). After priming, the seeds were sowing in pots and it was exposed to moderate and severe drought conditions after 21 days. Effects of smoke solutions and drought stress in varieties were assessed by physically (shoot length) and chemical parameters (crude protein, ADF. NDF, Ca, Mg, P and K). Both forage pea varieties have been observed that crude protein and mineral substance (except Ca) contents decrease significantly under drought stress, especially in severe drought. This loss was increased again by eliminating both doses (especially 10%) of smoke solutions. In fact, under normal growing conditions (control), 10% smoke solution application had the highest crude protein in both varieties. However, the effect of drought and the defense mechanism of smoke solution created differences in forage pea varieties based on parameters. In general, the Özkaynak was more resistant to drought and the response to smoke solution was stronger. In conclusion, by incorporating the poppy-smoke solution into the drought stress mitigation strategy, this approach not only curbed environmental losses but also mitigated the impacts of drought stress. Drought stress remains a major environmental factor which decreases the yield and productivity of most cereals growing worldwide. The research was carried out to assess correlation and path coefficient among 20 bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes. The treatments under drought conditions affected all agronomic traits, and the genotypes showed a significant difference. However, the results from the ambient tunnel were satisfactory, and some interesting observations were made. The present experiment was undertaken to estimate the correlation coefficient between grain yield and different yield contributing characters. The experiment was laid-out with two replications using an alpha lattice design. The study aimed to determine the degree of association between yield and yield attributing characters of drought-tolerant wheat populations using correlation and path analyses. The experiment's results demonstrated a highly significant difference in all the attributes examined between the wheat varieties, and water restriction dramatically reduced those traits. Partitioning of correlation coefficients into direct and indirect effects revealed. strong positive direct effects of spike weight on grain yield under drought-stressed conditions. Drought (water shortage) can substantially limit the yield and economic value of rose plants (Rosa spp.). Here, we characterized the effect of exogenous calcium (Ca2+) on the antioxidant system and photosynthesis-related properties of rose under polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG6000)- induced drought stress. Chlorophyll levels, as well as leaf and root biomass, were significantly reduced by drought; drought also had a major effect on the enzymatic antioxidant system and increased concentrations of reactive oxygen species. Application of exogenous Ca2+ increased the net photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance of leaves, enhanced water-use efficiency, and increased the length and width of stomata following exposure to drought. Organ-specific physiological responses were observed under different concentrations of Ca2+. Application of 5 mmol. L-1 Ca2+ promoted photosynthesis and antioxidant activity in the leaves, and application of 10 mmol. L-1 Ca2+ promoted antioxidant activity in the roots. Application of exogenous Ca2+ greatly enhanced the phenotype and photosynthetic capacity of potted rose plants following exposure to drought stress. Overall, our findings indicate that the application of exogenous Ca2+ enhances the drought resistance of roses by promoting physiological adaptation and that it could be used to aid the cultivation of rose plants. Abiotic stress reduces plant yield and quality. WRKY transcription factors play key roles in abiotic stress responses in plants, but the molecular mechanisms by which WRKY transcription factors mediate responses to drought and osmotic stresses in apple (Malus × domestica Borkh.) remain unclear. Here, we functionally characterized the apple Group III WRKY gene MdWRKY115. qRT-PCR analysis showed that MdWRKY115 expression was up-regulated by drought and osmotic stresses. GUS activity analysis revealed that the promoter activity of MdWRKY115 was enhanced under osmotic stress. Subcellular localization and transactivation assays indicated that MdWRKY115 was localized to the nucleus and had a transcriptional activity domain at the N-terminal region. Transgenic analysis revealed that the overexpression of MdWRKY115 in Arabidopsis plants and in apple callus markedly enhanced their tolerance to drought and osmotic stresses. DNA affinity purification sequencing showed that MdWRKY115 binds to the promoter of the stress-related gene MdRD22. This binding was further verified by an electrophoretic mobility shift assay. Drought poses a significant challenge to rice cultivation in Asia's rain-fed regions, which is expected to worsen with climate change. This article presents a comprehensive review of the current state of knowledge on drought tolerance in rice, based on a literature review of 52 relevant articles. The articles were chosen based on their relevance to the topic of drought tolerance in rice. The selected articles were then analyzed using a qualitative approach to summarize and synthesize their findings into three main sections: impact, performance, and recent trends. The article highlights several key findings on the development of drought-tolerant rice cultivars, including the identification of genes that control responses to water availability, the use of submergence-tolerant varieties in flood-prone lowlands, and the importance of physiological, biochemical, and molecular adaptation processes in improving rice's tolerance to drought stress. The article emphasizes the importance of marker-assisted breeding and cultivation in semi-arid and rainfed environments to develop more drought-tolerant cultivars. The development of drought-tolerant rice cultivars is crucial to ensure food security and mitigate the effects of climate change in Asia's rain-fed regions. The article also discusses various types of droughts and their effects on different plant species and drought pressures. As the global population increases, the demand for rice as a dependable food crop also rises. To meet this demand, rice cultivation must be expanded to rainfed areas. Citrus is the typical mycorrhizal fruit tree species establishing symbiosis with arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi. However, arbuscule development and senescence in colonized citrus roots, especially in response to drought stress, remain unclear, which is mainly due to the difficulty in clearing and staining lignified roots with the conventional method. Here, we improved the observation of colonized roots of citrus plants with the sectioning method, which enabled the clear observation of AM fungal structures. Furthermore, we investigated the effects of one week of drought stress on arbuscule development and senescence with the sectioning method. Microscopy observations indicated that drought stress significantly decreased mycorrhizal colonization (F% and M%) although it did not affect plant growth performance. Fluorescence probes (WGA 488 and/or Nile red) revealed that drought stress inhibited arbuscule development by increasing the percentage of arbuscules at the early stage and decreasing the percentages of arbuscules at the midterm and mature stages. Meanwhile, drought stress accelerated arbuscule senescence, which was characterized by the increased accumulation of neutral lipids. Overall, the sectioning method developed in this study enables the in-depth investigation of arbuscule status, and drought stress can inhibit arbuscule development but accelerate arbuscule senescence in the colonized roots of citrus plants. Plant Myeloblastosis (MYB) proteins function crucially roles upon variegated abiotic stresses. Nonetheless, their effects and mechanisms in rose (Rosa chinensis) are not fully clarified. In this study, we characterized the effects of rose RcMYB8 under salt and drought tolerances. For induction of the RcMYB8 expression, NaCl and drought stress treatment were adopted. Rose plants overexpressing RcMYB8 displayed enhanced tolerance to salinity and drought stress, while silencing RcMYB8 resulted in decreased tolerance, as evidenced by lowered intra-leaf electrolyte leakage and callose deposition, as well as photosynthetic sustainment under stressed conditions. Here, we further show that RcMYB8 binds similarly to the promoters of RcPR5/1 and RcP5C51 in vivo and in vitro. Inhibiting RcP5CS1 by virus-induced gene silencing led to decreased drought tolerance through the reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostatic regulation. RcP5CS1-silenced plants showed an increase in ion leakage and reduce of proline content, together with the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) increased, lowered activities of Catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD) and superoxide dismutase (SOD). Our study highlights the transcriptional modulator role of RcMYB8 in drought and salinity tolerances, which bridges RcPR5/1 and RcP5CS1 by promoting ROS scavenging. The main purpose of the study was to clarify the effect of selenium (Se) on DNA damage and DNA methylation in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) plants exposed to polyethylene glycol (PEG)-induced drought stress under in vitro tissue culture. Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and coupled restriction enzyme digestion-random amplification (CRED-RA) were utilized to explain the DNA damage grade and variations in DNA methylation patterns, respectively. The outcomes indicate that drought stress gives rise to a rise in RAPD profile variations (as DNA damage) and a decrease in genomic template stability (GTS) rate and DNA methylation changes. According to the RAPD data, the greatest GTS value was computed at 56.9% (5% PEG 6000), and the lowest GTS value was 41.2% (15% PEG 6000), demonstrating the adverse effects of PEG 6000. However, DNA damage can be reduced by treatment with sodium selenate (2, 4, and 6 µM of Na2SeO4) together with PEG (5%, 10%, and 15% PEG 6000)-induced water deficits. Moreover, according to CRED-RA analysis, PEGinduced DNA methylation rates were changed after treating different doses of Se. Sunflower production in the world is expending towards marginal areas, along with rapid changes in cultural practises like no-till planting and weed management. The frequency and severity of abiotic constraints also rise as a result of climate change. Helianthus annuus is well-known for its adaptability to a wide range of agronomic conditions, by its robust root system that is capable of absobing water from deeper soils. However, water stress lowers grain yields and fatty acid content with complex phenotypic, physiological and biochemical signs. In this study which was carried out to develop parental lines tolerant or high-tolerant to drought, physiological screenings were carried out on 8 sunflower genotypes. Genotypes were planted in pots in a greenhouse and grown at three different irrigation levels (I100, I66 and I33). The genotypes were watered together until they reached the 6-8 leaf stage. Then, each genotype was managed and irrigated solely. Number of days between sowing and floweing days, number of days between sowing and number of days between sowing and number of days to transfer the embryo to the nutrient medium, plant height, head diameter, number of seeds in the head was between 52-67 days; 65-80 days; 50-200 cm; 3.0-13.0 cm; 25-500 pieces, respectively. Plant weight, plant high, root length, number of leaf, nnmber of days from transplant to glasshouse, number of days from transplant to field was between 0.22-0.45 g; 2.09-4.62 cm; 1.70-5.27 cm; 3.60-5.87 pieces; 5 or 6 days; 10-12 days, respectively. In the experiments, it was found that two and a half generations could be achieved in one year. The genotypes K26-33 and K78-100 are located closest to the center as the most ideal genotypes in terms of the examined characteristics. In the MS environment, in terms of the characteristics examined, the genotypes K105-100, K78-100, K105-66, K26-100 and K1-100 were the preferred genotypes as they are located close to the center. β-ketoacyl-CoA synthase (KCS) is an important enzyme that catalyzes the biosynthesis of very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs). In this study, the genome-wide analysis and functional characterization of the KCS gene family members in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) plants were conducted, and the response of the identified gene family to abiotic stresses was evaluated. In this study, 19 KCS genes were identified and characterized in the P. vulgaris genome. The molecular weights of these KCS proteins ranged from 49.14 kDa to 60.57 kDa, their amino acid lengths varied from 437 to 534, and their pI values ranged from 8.81 to 9.47, indicating a basic nature. Segmental and tandem duplications were observed in the Pvul-KCS gene family. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that Pvul-KCS proteins clustered into three main groups with Arabidopsis thaliana and Glycine max species. Comparative mapping analysis was also conducted with A. thaliana and G. max. Expression profile comparisons indicated that these genes had different expression levels in common bean varieties and played a role in the plant's response to biotic and abiotic stresses. This study provides important insights into the biological functions of KCS genes in Phaseolus vulgaris and offers valuable information for improving drought and salt stress tolerance in common beans. This study aimed to determine a sainfoin variety best suited to the soil and weather conditions of the Great Lake Basin region inUlaangom soum of Uvs aimag (province). We carried out studies into five varieties of sainfoin, including Peschany 1251, Tashyl 3, Novosibirsky 1284, Shortandisky 83, and Mikhailovsky-5, which were compared with each other without irrigation trial. Sainfoin has a high resistance to cold winter conditions, high temperatures and and dry drought conditions. Sainfoin varieties growing in Mongolia are highly palatable perennial leguminous plants. According to the result of our research, sainfoin is well acclimatized to Uvs province's soil and weather conditions. The variety with the highest performance showing is Taskhyl 3, which was generated atthe Plant Research Center of Khakassia, a republic of Russia located in southern Siberia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Withania somnifera plants were exposed to drought stress for 23 days. Relative water content (RWC), gaseous exchange, fluorescence parameters, and spectral reflectance changes were monitored under drought stress. Assimilation rate and RWC decreased by 81% and 65%, respectively, during drought exposure of 23 days. Photosynthetic reflectance index (PRI) and water index (WI) showed a decreasing pattern under drought stress and correlated with Amax and RWC. Anthocyanin reflectance index and anthocyanin content increased with drought stress. Similarly, rational among R727, R696, R770, and R731 reflects chlorophyll content and Chl a/b ratio and copes with actual chlorophyll content. Fluorescence changes showed the opening and closing of PSII reaction centers, while absorbance change at 830/875 nm showed activity and energy balance of PSI. Non-photochemical quenching increased under drought, which showed depoxydation of xanthine cycle pigment. Energy balance at the acceptor and donor side of PSI adjusted under drought stress by increasing electron carrying limitation at donor side. Energy balance between PSI and PSII is maintained by increasing cyclic electron flux under mild drought stress. Both protective mechanism depoxydation of xanthine cycle pigment and enhancement of cyclic electron flux reduced or diminished under severe drought stress. Decrease in leaf area and stomatal closure may cause a reduction in transpiration that results into loss of RWC and altered physiological processes. Since fluorescence, absorbance change and spectral reflectance are non-invasive measurements that may be used as indicators for assessing drought tolerance in medicinal plants. Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is one of the most important vegetable crops in the world and abiotic stresses often cause serious problems in tomato production. It is thus important to identify new regulators in stress response and to devise new approaches to promote stress tolerance in tomato. Previous studies have shown that small secreted peptides (SSPs) are important signal molecules regulating plant growth and stress response by mediating intercellular communication. However, little is known about tomato SSPs, especially their roles in responding to abiotic stresses. Here we report the identification of 1,050 putative SSPs in the tomato genome, 557 of which were classified into 38 known SSP families based on their conserved domains. GO and transcriptome analyses revealed that a large proportion of SlSSPs might be involved in abiotic stress response. Further analysis indicated that stress response related cis-elements were present on the SlCEP promotors and a number of SlCEPs were significantly upregulated by drought treatments. Among the drought-inducible SlCEPs, SlCEP10 and SlCEP11b were selected for further analysis via exogenous application of synthetic peptides. The results showed that treatments with both SlCEP10 and SlCEP11b peptides enhanced tomato drought stress tolerance, indicating the potential roles of SlSSPs in abiotic stress response. N6-methylated adenine (m6A) is an emerging epigenetic marker in eukaryotic organisms that plays an important role in biological functions and in enriching genetic information.m6A exerts these functions via the dynamic interplay among m6A writers, erasers, and readers. However, little is known about the underlying mechanisms of m6A in plant growth and stress responses. Here, we identified 276 masked m6A regulators from nine Rosaceae species (Pyrus bretschneideri, Pyrus betulifolia, Pyrus communis, Malus domestica, Fragaria vesca, Prunus avium, Prunus mume, Prunus persica, and Rubus occidentalis). We classified and named these genes in more detail based on phylogenetic and synteny analysis. The expansion ofm6A regulators in Maloideae was dated back to the recent whole-genome duplication (WGD) in Rosaceae. Based on the expression pattern analysis and gene structure analysis of m6A regulators, m6A was shown to be a significant factor in regulating plant development and resistance. In addition, PbrMTA1-silenced pear plants displayed significantly reduced drought tolerance and chlorophyll content, as well as increased electrolyte leakage and concentrations of malondialdehyde and H2O2. Drought stress severely impairs common bean production. For facilitating drought-resistance breeding in common bean, molecular markers were identified in a genome-wide level marker-trait association study. A panel of 210 common bean accessions showed large variation in 11 agronomic traits at the adult stage (plant height, pod number per plant, seed number per pod, seed number per plant, seed yield per plant, pod length, harvest index, pod harvest index, days to maturity, hundred-seed weight, and seed yield) under two water conditions. The coefficient of variation ranged from 6.21% for pod harvest index to 51.00% for seed number per plant under well-watered conditions, and from 4.05% for days to maturity to 40.72% for seed number per plant under drought stress. In a genome-wide association study, 119 quantitative-trait loci were associated with drought resistance, including 41 adjacent to known loci. Among these loci, 12 were found to be associated with at least two traits. Three major loci were identified at Pv01 and Pv02. A set of candidate genes were found that encode MYBs, AREBs, WKRYs, and protein kinases. These results reveal promising alleles that control drought resistance, shedding light on the genetic basis of drought resistance and accelerating future efforts for drought resistance improvement in common bean. Root architecture development, an agronomic trait that influences crop yield, is regulated by multiple plant hormones. Abscisic acid (ABA) is a stress hormone that responds to multiple stresses, including salt, drought, and cold stress, and modulates various aspects of plant growth and development. In recent years, it has been found that ABA synthesized under mild stress or well-watered conditions can support plant growth and stress resistance by positively regulating root architecture development. In this review, we summarize the molecular, cellular, and organismal basis of ABA homeostasis in the root and how ABA signaling affects root architecture development both as an inhibitor and as an activator. We discuss the implications of these studies and the potential for exploiting the components of ABA signaling in designing crop plants with improved root system development and stress resistance. Background: The plant-growth-promoting rhizobacterium Tsukamurella tyrosinosolvens is a rare strain of actinomycete, in order to recognize and expand the ecological functions of rare actinomycetes. Methods: In this experiment, we studied the effect of Tsukamurella tyrosinosolvens P9 on the drought resistance of peanut by inoculating peanut seedlings in pots and measuring the growth and physiological indicators of peanut under drought stress and re-watering conditions. Results: The results showed that during drought stress, the relative water content of the soil and leaves, chlorophyll content, and stomatal length, width, and aperture were significantly decreased while the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), H2O2 and stomatal density were significantly increased. Peanut growth was also inhibited. However, inoculation with the P9 strain significantly promoted the growth of peanut under drought stress as plant height, fresh weight, root length and root weight were significantly higher compared with the uninoculated drought stress group. In addition, in P9-inoculated plants, the water and chlorophyll contents were significantly higher and the activities of the antioxidant enzymes CAT and SOD were significantly increased (except during the six days of drought treatment). While the stomatal length, width, and aperture were improved, the levels of MDA and H2O2 were significantly decreased. NBT staining showed that inoculation with P9 reduced O2− accumulation under stress. After re-watering, the physiological indexes of inoculated plants recovered more quickly and grew better. Conclusions: The results showed that T. tyrosinosolvens P9 enhanced drought resistance and improves peanut growth by increasing leaf water content, increasing photosynthesis, regulating stomatal closure, and improving antioxidant enzyme activity. Objective: As a critical limitation of plant growing, drought stress has always received a lot of attention from botanical researchers. This study intends to investigate the role of salicylic acid and the Mycorrhiza and Azotobacter bio-fertilizer on Satureja hortensis L. under drought stress. Materials and Methods: Salicylic acid and bio-fertilizers have been shown to improve drought tolerance in growing plants. To evaluate the synergistic effect of salicylic acid, Azotobacter chroococcum bacteria, and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi under drought stress (-3.5 atm: W1), (-6.5 atm: W2), and (-10 atm: W3), a 2-year (2016 to 2018) field experiment was organized based on split-plot factorial statistical in a randomized complete block design, with three replicates. Results: The main findings of this study showed that the combinable use of bio-fertilizers and salicylic acid diminished the disadvantageous effects of drought stress. Co-application of bio-fertilizers and salicylic acid significantly increased chlorophyll a and b (22% and 31.5%), carotenoid (30.7%) contents, aerial fresh (38.3%) and dry (64.1%) weights, root fresh (55.8%), and dry (45%) weights, auxin (15%), percentage of essential oil (30.7%) in S. hortensis while it decreased the proline content (48.8%) under severe stress as compared to the control groups, which confirmed the efficacy of this approach and its role in drought tolerance. Conclusion: The results demonstrated that this new suggested treatment could effectively alleviate drought stress symptoms and improve S. hortensis growth under spreading drought conditions and limited water resources. As sessile organisms, plants possess a complex system to cope with environmental changes. Ca2+ functions as a vital second messenger in the stress signaling of plants, and the CBL-interacting protein kinases (CIPKs) serve as essential elements in the plant Ca2+ signaling pathway. In this study, calcineurin B-like protein-interacting protein kinase 26 (BdCIPK26) from Brachypodium distachyon was characterized. Overexpression of BdCIPK26 enhanced tolerance to drought and salt stress of transgenic plants. Further investigations revealed that BdCIPK26 participated in abscisic acid (ABA) signaling, conferred hypersensitivity to exogenous ABA in transgenic plants, and promoted endogenous ABA biosynthesis. Moreover, BdCIPK26 was found to maintain ROS homeostasis in plants under stress conditions. Drought is one of the limiting factors for plant production, and there is a continuous demand for drought tolerant plants. Shallots are considered a shallowrooted crop and have been reported to have little tolerance to drought conditions. One of the efforts to increase plant tolerance to drought conditions is through the addition of Methyl Jasmonic Acid (MeJA). MeJA is involved in several physiological and biochemical procedures in plant growth and development. Application of MeJA can increase the plant tolerance to drought conditions through chlorophyll synthesis, stomatal conductivity, transpiration, net photosynthetic rate and biomass production. This research was conducted in a complete randomized block design with three replications to determine the response of shallot plants to the application of MeJA (0 µM, 25 µM, 50 µM and 100 µM) under drought conditions, which was simulated through the frequency of watering (once daily, every other day, once in three days). Soil water content calculated before the watering treatment was 24.45%, 20.34% and 18.45% for watering once daily, every other day, once in three days, respectively. The results showed that the addition of MeJA played a role in enhancing the growth and productivity of shallot plants under normal and drought conditions. Application of 50 µM of MeJA could increase the Water Use Efficiency, maintain the Relative Water Content, increase the width of stomatal aperture, and increase the leaf area and Leaf Area Index. This also led to increasing Net Assimilation Rate and Plant Growth Rate. Application of 50 µM of MeJA gave in increasing bulb productivity and reached 7.86 ton.ha-1, which was 58.2 % higher than that of in control (without MeJA application). The production of jali (Coix lacryma-jobi L.) under stress can be increased by the application of a soil enhancer, called rice husk charcoal. This study aimed to determine the effect of rice husk charcoal on the yield of jali plants under drought stress and to determine the minimum soil water content from the interval time of watering to ensure that plants can still produce grains. The treatment (interval time watering and weight of rice husk charcoal) was arranged in a splitplot design. The main plot was the interval time of watering, consisting of 3 levels: every two days, every four days, and every six days. The weight of rice husk charcoal as subplots consisted of 3 levels: 0 t ha-1, 10 t ha-1, and 20 t ha-1. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and further tested using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a significance level of 5%. The results showed that rice husk charcoal could not increase the yield of jali plant under drought stress. Jali plants could still produce grains at a watering interval time of every six days with a minimum soil moisture content of 11.85%, or equivalent to 35.54% of field capacity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Allium senescens, is an important economic and ecological grassland plant with drought-resistant characteristics. A TCP protein transcription factor is important in the regulation of plant development and adverse responses. However, the mechanism by which TCP transcription functions in drought resistance in Allium senescens is still not clear. Here, we obtained a total of 190,305 transcripts with 115,562 single gene clusters based on RNA-Seq sequencing of Allium senescens under drought stress. The total number of bases was 97,195,096 bp, and the average length was 841.06 bp. Furthermore, we found that there were eight genes of the TCP family that showed an upregulated expression trend under drought stress in Allium senescens. We carried out an investigation to determine the evolution and function of the AsTCP family and how they produce an effect in drought resistance. The 14 AsTCP genes were confirmed and divided into class I and class II containing CIN and CYC/TBI subfamilies, respectively. We also found that the expression of AsTCP17 was remarkably upregulated with drought treatment. Besides, the transformation of AsTCP17 in Arabidopsis revealed that the protective enzymes, namely polyphenol oxidase (POD) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), were increased by 0.4 and 0.8 times, respectively. Chlorophyll content was also increased, while the H2O2 and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents were decreased. Staining assays with 3,3'-diaminobenzidine (DAB) also suggested that the AsTCP17 downregulates reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation. In addition, overexpression of the AsTCP17 affected the accumulation of drought-related hormones in plants, and the synthesis of ABA. The expression of AtSVP and AtNCED3, related ABA synthesis pathway genes, indicated that the level of expression of AtSVP and AtNCED3 was obviously enhanced, with the overexpression of line 6 showing a 20.6-fold and 7.0-fold increase, respectively. Taken together, our findings systematically analyze the AsTCPs family at the transcriptome expression level in Allium senescens, and we also demonstrated that AsTCP17 protein, as a positive regulator, was involved in drought resistance of Allium senescens. Drought stress is the main limiting plant growth factor in arid and semiarid regions. The Lanzhou lily (Lilium davidii var. unicolor) is the only sweet-tasting lily grown in these regions of China that offers highly edible, medicinal, health, and ornamental value. The Tresor lily is an ornamental flower known for its strong resistance. Plants were grown under three different drought intensity treatments, namely, being watered at intervals of 5, 15, and 25 d (either throughout the study or during specific growth stages). We measured the biomass, leaf area, photosynthetic response, chlorophyll content (SPAD value), and osmoregulation of both the Lanzhou lily and the Tresor lily (Lilium 'Tresor'). Additionally, we employed RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) and qRT-PCR to investigate transcriptomic changes of the Lanzhou lily in response to drought stress. Results showed that under drought stress, the decreasing rate in the Lanzhou lily bulb weight was lower than the corresponding Tresor lily bulb rate; the net photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, and stomatal conductance of the Lanzhou lily were all higher compared to the Tresor lily; osmoregulation constituents, such as glucose, fructose, sucrose, trehalose, and soluble sugar, in the Lanzhou lily were comparatively higher; PYL, NCED, and ERS genes were significantly expressed in the Lanzhou lily. Under moderate drought, the biosynthesis of flavonoids, circadian rhythms, and the tryptophan metabolism pathway of the Lanzhou lily were all significant. Under severe drought stress, fatty acid elongation, photosynthetic antenna protein, plant hormone signal transduction, flavone and flavonol biosynthesis, and the carotenoid biosynthesis pathway were all significant. The Lanzhou lily adapted to drought stress by coordinating its organs and the unique role of its bulb, regulating photosynthesis, increasing osmolyte content, activating circadian rhythms, signal transduction, fatty acid elongation metabolism, and phenylalanine and flavonoid metabolic pathways, which may collectively be the main adaptation strategy and mechanisms used by the Lanzhou lily under drought stress. Sugar plays an important role in apple fruit development, appearance and quality as well as contributing to a plant's water stress response. Trehalose and the trehalose biosynthetic metabolic pathways are part of the sugar signaling system in plants, which are important regulator of water stress response in apple. The effect of water stress treatments applied to apple trees and the corresponding effects of ABA on developmental fruit quality were examined for indicators of fruit quality during fruit development. The results indicated that the severe water stress treatment (W2) occurring after the last stage of fruit cell division caused a decrease in the color and size of fruit. The moderate water stress (W1) occurring after the last stage of fruit cell enlargement (S2) caused an increase in the content of fructose and sorbitol while the apple fruit shape was not affected. These changes in sugar are related to the activity of sugar metabolic enzymes. While the enzymatic activity of vacuolar acid invertase (vAINV) was higher, that of sucrose-phosphate synthase (SPS) was lower in water stress treated fruit throughout the developmental period. This indicates that enhanced sucrose degradation and reduced sucrose synthesis leads to an overall reduced sucrose content during times of drought. Thus, water stress reduced sucrose content. Whereas the content of endogenous trehalose and ABA were the highest in water stress treated fruit. A moderate water stress (W1) imposed on apple trees via water restriction (60%-65% of field capacity) after the fruit cell enlargement phase of fruit development yielded sweeter fruit of higher economic value. California has a long history of planting water-loving trees ill adapted to our arid mediterranean climate. With droughts increasing in duration and intensity since the 1970s, California cities have experienced substantial tree losses, raising the question of what trees are sustainable in these locations. Realizing this need for new trees, a few individuals and organizations began experimenting with new drought-adapted tree species, while other horticulturists noted the unusual survivor trees scattered randomly throughout the state. These trends came to fruition over the last decade, as climate change awareness grew and tree losses continued. At the same time, the massive and radical tree initiative for the Apple Park megacampus has introduced dozens of new tree types, particularly oaks, increasing awareness in the landscape industry about available alternatives. Although the landscape industry is rather conservative, this difficult moment in history that is ours requires creativity. Consequently, a few enterprising nurseries are taking risky bets and seeing them pay off. Clients are demanding more choice, more native trees, and more drought tolerance. Oaks, particularly Mexican species, are proving to be popular and excellent performers in a wide range of urban settings. Quercus rugosa, Q. hypoleucoides, and Q. oblongifolia from the American Southwest and Mexico are leading new species. The rare California native oak Q. tomentella is being planted intensively, and soon there will be more urban-planted Q. tomentella than wild trees. The iconic southern New England landscape is a densely populated region in which historic villages and growing cities are set within an expansive forest. While oaks are dominant or significant species in 60% of these forests, they face pressures that compromise their health and ability to regenerate. Threats include deer herbivory and insect defoliation, while drought and climate-change stresses compound other disturbance factors. With traditional silviculture methods no longer working reliably and landowner motivations changing, new management options are needed. A 2019-22 initiative led by the Forest Stewards Guild and state agencies has engaged partners in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island to collaborate in promoting stewardship that will support and improve the resiliency of the region's oak forests. One promising output of this collaboration is a web-based Oak Resiliency Assessment Tool that professionals and landowners can use. Looking forward, researchers at the University of Connecticut and University of Rhode Island are leading a study designed to test different management approaches to help regional oak forests adapt to changing climate conditions. Sunflower represents the main oil crop in Romania and is considered a moderately crop drought tolerant but in years with low precipitations seed yield is affected. In recent years, the temperature increased by 2-3 degrees Celsius compared to multi-year average over 60 years. In south-eastern of Romania (agricultural area Fundulea), in 2020, the average annual temperature was 13.5°C, in 2021, it was 12.1°C and in 2022, it was 13.3°C compared with multi-year average over 60 years who was 10.9°C. Rainfalls decreased in last four years from value of 303.3 mm, multi-year average over 60 years total from months April to August in South eastern of Romania, to a total of 180 mm in years 2020 and 2022, 269 mm in year 2021 and a total of 200 mm in 2023. In conditions of water stress and global warming we must identify sunflower genotypes with tolerance at drought and heat. In this paper we present results regarding resistance at water stress through observations development root system of sunflower genotypes under artificial condition in greenhouse and behavior in non-irrigated field in Calarasi county (Fundulea area) and Braila, in year 2023. This research was 2016-2017 years of the Selcuk University Faculty of Agriculture Department of Horticulture Research and practice was carried out in the greenhouse. Study the Yalova Atatürk Central Horticultural Research Institute, Ata-77, Bolverim-77, Doruk-77, Dorukhan-77, Eren-77, Erenoğlu-77, and Hilal-77 strawberry varieties. After the planted strawberry seedlings reached the 56 leaf stage, after irrigation at field capacity, drought application was made until the plants lost their leaf turgor. After implementation of the varieties of drought with healing and drought period of watering again losses to determine. In strawberry cultivars, significant decreases occurred in the amount of protein with the application of drought. In the recovery period after the drought, the protein amounts increased again. Drought treatment significantly increased proline content in all cultivars compared to control. Catalase enzyme activity in all strawberry cultivars increased significantly as a result of drought application in both years. There was a slight decrease in the recovery period. In both years of the study, drought application increased the peroxidase enzyme activity in all strawberry cultivars compared to the control, and a slight decrease occurred in the recovery period compared to the drought application. Drought application in cultivars increased the superoxide dismutase enzyme activity a little compared to the control, while the activity decreased to the control level during the recovery period. Drought stress is one of the major environmental obstacles that limit the production and development of apples (Malus domestica Borkh.). The role of melatonin is well known in the protection of plants under environmental stresses. In this study, we investigated the effect of melatonin on apple rootstock M. hupehensis Rehd under drought stress. The results showed that drought inhibited the growth of M. hupehensis and dramatically reduced root surface area, root volume, the number of tips and forks, and root diameter. Drought-induced growth inhibition was significantly decreased by adding melatonin. Net photosynthetic rate (Pn), intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci), stomatal conductance (Gs), transpiration rate (Tr), were markedly reduced under drought stress. However, the application of melatonin could mitigate the damage to the photosynthetic apparatus and increase the quantum yield of PSII photochemistry. Additionally, generation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and superoxide radicals (O2 •-) sharply increased in apple leaves after 4 days under drought stress, and the accumulation of electrolyte leakage (EL) represented oxidative stress, while by applying melatonin under drought stress, the generation of O2 •- and H2O2 were significantly reduced and protected the membrane from drought damages. Drought is a serious challenge that causes significant crop loss worldwide. The developmental processes of plants are regulated by phytohormones and signaling molecules that crosstalk together in signaling cascades. We suppose that nitric oxide (NO) is a secondary messenger of the JAs signaling pathway, as 10−7 M methyl jasmonate (MeJA) pretreatment regulates NO accumulation in wheat plants under drought stress, modulated by 12% polyethylene glycol (PEG), and in control plants. This study aimed to compare 2 × 10−4 M nitric oxide donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP) and MeJA pretreatments in regulating growth and water balance parameters at the vulnerable initial first-leaf stage of wheat growth. The application of 12% PEG decreased transpiration intensity twofold, relative water content (RWC) by 7–9%, and osmotic potential of cell sap by 33–40% compared with those of control plants. Under drought, MeJA- and SNP-pretreated plants decreased transpiration intensity by 20–25%, RWC by 3–4%, and osmotic potential of cell sap by 16–21% compared with those of control plants, and enhanced the proline content by 25–55% compared with MeJA- and SNP-untreated plants. Our results suggest that pretreatment with MeJA as well as SNP could mitigate drought stress in wheat plants. Drought stress impairs crop growth and productivity. Stress-associated proteins (SAPs), a class of zinc finger proteins containing the A20/AN1 domain, function in various stress responses in plants. However, little is known about the function of SAPs in drought-stress responses in soybean, an oil and protein crop. We report that a GmSAP5 protein confers drought tolerance by increasing sensitivity to abscisic acid (ABA) and reducing stomatal aperture. Overexpression and RNA interference of GmSAP5 in soybean hairy roots resulted in elevated resistance and sensitivity to drought stress, respectively. ABA and proline contents increased in GmSAP5-overexpressing plants under water-deficit conditions. Lower water loss rates and higher relative water contents were observed in GmSAP5-overexpressing plants, resulting in increased drought-stress resistance. A yeast one-hybrid assay and luciferase transient transcriptional activity assay showed that GmAREB3, an AREB/ABF transcription factor, could bind to the promoter of GmSAP5 and activate its expression. Proline accumulation has been shown to occur in plants in response to various environmental stresses. Although proline metabolismrelated genes have been functionally characterized, the inter-organ transport of proline in stressed plants remains unclear. In this study, free proline was detected with significant accumulations in the roots, stems, and leaves of watermelon drought-tolerant germplasm M08 and drought-susceptible line Y34 under drought stress. Expression profiling and enzyme activity measurements revealed that ClP5CS1 gene, rather than its paralog ClP5CS2, mainly contributes to the proline synthesis in leaves via the Glu pathway. Additionally, over-expression of the ClP5CS genes significantly enhanced the drought tolerance of transgenic Arabidopsis lines. Furthermore, we confirmed that proline is mainly synthesized in leaves and transported to roots in watermelon under drought stress. Transcriptome and expression analyses revealed that the genes involved in proline metabolism exhibited different expression levels. Specifically, ClP5CS1 was upregulated in leaves and roots, while ClP5CS2 was downregulated under drought stress. Also, 415 and 362 differently expressed TFs were identified in roots and leaves, respectively, with the majority upregulated in the former. Ultimately, a model for proline metabolism was proposed. Drought is amongst the most important stressors affecting maize production globally. Existing strategies to offset drought impacts are centered around the rapid development of drought-tolerant cultivars through plant breeding. However, under both current conditions and projected climate changes, additional stressors such as insect pests will co-occur. To determine the impact of combined insect and drought stress on drought tolerance in maize, we assessed the effects of Dalbulus maidis, drought, and both stresses combined in drought-tolerant maize hybrids. We measured several maize morphological growth traits (i.e., plant height, stem diameter, shoot weight, root weight, root length, and root-to-shoot ratio) at the end of a 28-day period of pulse-stress and no-stress control exposure. We found that seedling growth declined when both stressors co-occurred. Nevertheless, drought-tolerant maize hybrids remained strongly tolerant to drought regardless of D. maidis infestation. While our results showed that drought tolerance is maintained in drought-tolerant maize seedlings, future studies should address any effects on maize yield. Our study highlights the importance of testing the combined effects of drought and insect stressors to better predict insect–plant interactions in the context of plant breeding for drought-tolerant traits in a changing climate. Trehalose 6-phosphate (T6P) regulates sugar levels and starch metabolism in a plant cell and thus interacts with various signaling pathways, and after converting T6P into trehalose (Tre), it acts as a vital osmoprotectant under stress conditions. This study was conducted using wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. Norin 61) and mustard (Brassica juncea L. cv. BARI sharisha 13) seedlings to investigate the role of Tre and T6P in improving salt and water deficit stress tolerance. The seedlings were grown hydroponically using Hyponex solution and exposed to salt (300 and 200 mM NaCl for wheat and mustard, respectively) and water deficit (20 and 12% PEG 6000 for wheat and mustard, respectively) stresses with or without Tre and T6P. The study demonstrated that salt and water deficit stress negatively influenced plant growth by destroying photosynthetic pigments and increasing oxidative damage. In response to salt and water deficit stresses, the generation of H2O2 increased by 114 and 67%, respectively, in wheat seedlings, while in mustard, it increased by 86 and 50%, respectively. Antioxidant defense systems were also altered by salt and water deficit stresses due to higher oxidative damage. The AsA content was reduced by 65 and 38% in wheat and 61 and 45% in mustard under salt and water deficit stresses, respectively. The subsequent negative results of salinity and water deficit can be overcome by exogenous application of Tre and T6P; these agents reduced the oxidative stress by decreasing H2O2 and TBARS levels and increasing enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants. Moreover, the application of Tre and T6P decreased the accumulation of Na in the shoots and roots of wheat and mustard seedlings. Therefore, the results suggest that the use of Tre and T6P is apromising strategy to alleviate osmotic and ionic toxicity in plants under salt and water deficit stresses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The natural environment of crops is exposed to a complex collection of biotic and abiotic pressures. Abiotic stresses cover a diversity of environmental elements that cannot be avoided, such as temperature, drought, salinity, cold, heat, light, and water stress. Biotic stress is caused by living organisms with which plants coexist and interact. Pathogens and herbivores are examples of biotic stressors that can threaten food security and result in significant economic losses. Agricultural production systems differ in the extent of stress towards cultivated crops; agroforestry is considered to provide a protective function against environmental stress. The concept of this review was to assess the impact of environmental change and the atmospheric variability on the plants in agroforestry systems. The application of trees in field crop production has become more and more involved in practice, especially in areas with an extreme climate and unfavorable soil conditions. The main reasons for the rising interest are the effects of climate change, soil degradation, and erosion. Most of the trees are used as hedgerows or farm boundaries, or as scattered planting on the farm to control soil erosion as well as to improve farm productivity, which requires a thorough understanding of each stress element. Plant glutamine synthetase (GS, EC6.3.1.2) catalyzes the synthesis of glutamine from glutamate and ammonium ions and acts as a key enzyme in the nitrogen metabolic pathway in organisms. Nitrogen is an essential element for plant growth and development and plays an important role in crop yield and quality formation. Therefore, GS is crucial in many physiological processes in plants. Currently, nitrogen regulation by GS in plants is well-studied in terms of its effect on plant growth and development. This article reviews the regulatory role of plant GS and its molecular mechanism in mitigating stress injury, such as low or high temperature, salinity, drought and oxidation. Triticale is a commercial cereal with a vast potential to feed human and animal. This plant can be cultivated in poor soils that are not suitable for wheat production. In irrigation cutoff stress conditions, reduces growth and yield and yield components of triticale. One of the most important ways to reduce the negative effect of drought stress on plant is using compost fertilizer in the soil. Using compost fertilizer in agricultural soils lead to increase nutrient elements and conserving the soil water. Generally, compost fertilizer of sugarcane residues, improves moisture storage and physical and chemical conditions of the soil. So that sugarcane residue compost fertilizer contributes to preserving the moisture storage of the soil and to supply the nutrients required by the plant. In this study, the most important aim is to study the effect of sugarcane residue compost fertilizer on triticale yield and yield components under irrigation cutoff stress condition in Mollasani region, Ahwaz, Kuzestan province. Materials and Methods In order to investigate the effect of sugarcane residue compost fertilizer on growth, yield and yield components of triticale under drought stress conditions, a field experiment using a splitplot arrangement accomplished in a randomized complete block design with four replicates in the research farm of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources University of Khuzestan (in 31٥ N, 48٥ E, 35 Km north-east of Ahwaz, and 20 m above the sea level) during 2018-2019 growing season. Experimental factors include four levels of drought stress (complete irrigation, irrigation cutoff from spike emergence to physiological maturity, irrigation cutoff from pollination stage to physiological maturity and irrigation cutoff from milky-dough stage to physiological maturity) as a main factor in main plots and five amounts of sugarcane residues compost (0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 t ha) as a sub factor in sub-plots. Results and Discussion Analysis of variance showed that the effect of drought stress, sugarcane residue compost and their interaction on the measured traits were significant. Mean comparison showed that the maximum amount of triticale traits was obtained in full irrigation and the lowest amount was observed in drought stress from spike emergence to physiological maturity. Also, with increasing the amount of sugarcane residue compost, the amount of traits increased and reached a maximum at the level of 40 t ha Mean comparison of grain yield under the interaction of drought stress and sugarcane residue compost showed that the highest grain yield (4288 kg ha) was under full irrigation and 40 t.ha٠i of sugarcane residue compost and the lowest grain yield (1134 kg ha) was obtained in drought stress from spike emergence to physiological maturity and non-use of sugarcane residue compost. In the conditions of drought stress caused by the interruption of irrigation, the vegetative and reproductive growth of the plant is reduced, which causes a decrease in yield components and ultimately leads to a decrease in seed yield. On the other hand, the use of compost fertilizer reduces the effect of stress by preserving water and providing nutrients needed for plant growth and leads to an increase in seed yield. Conclusion Generally, the results showed that drought stress conditions decreased growth, grain yield and yield components of triticale but using sugarcane residues compost fertilizer decreased the negative impact of drought stress conditions on measured traits. Also, in areas with irrigation shortage or lack of rainfall at the beginning of flowering stage, 40 tons per hectare of sugarcane residues compost fertilizer is recommended for maintaining grain yield. Drought is one of the primary abiotic stress factors affecting the yield, growth, and development of soybeans. In extreme cases, drought can reduce yield by more than 50%. The seedling stage is an important determinant of soybean growth: the number and vigor of seedlings will affect growth and yield at harvest. Therefore, it is important to study the drought resistance of soybean seedlings. In this study, a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population comprising 234 F6:10 lines (derived from Zhonghuang 35 - Jindou 21) and a panel of 259 soybean accessions was subjected to drought conditions to identify the effects on phenotypic traits under these conditions. Using a genetic map constructed by single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) markers, 18 quantitative trait loci (QTL) on 7 soybean chromosomes were identified in two environments. This included 9 QTL clusters identified in the RIL population. Fifty-three QTL were identified in 19 soybean chromosomes by genome-wide association analysis (GWAS) in the panel of accessions, including 69 significant SNPs (-log10 (P) - 3.97). A combination of the two populations revealed that two SNPs (-log10 (P) - 3.0) fell within two of the QTL (qPH7-4 and qPH7-6) confidence intervals. We not only re-located several previously reported drought-resistance genes in soybean and other crops but also identified several non-synonymous stress-related mutation site differences between the two parents, involving Glyma.07g093000, Glyma.07g093200, Glyma.07g094100 and Glyma.07g094200. One previously unreported new gene related to drought stress, Glyma.07g094200, was found by regional association analysis. The significant SNP CHR7-17619 (G/T) was within an exon of the Glyma.07g094200 gene. In the RIL population, the DSP value of the "T" allele of CHR7-17619 was significantly (P < 0.05) larger than the "G" allele in different environments. Tea plants are sensitive to soil moisture deficit, with the level of soil water being a critical factor affecting their growth and quality. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can improve water and nutrient absorption, but it is not clear whether AMF can improve the photosynthetic characteristics of tea plants. A potted study was conducted to determine the effects of Claroideoglomus etunicatum on plant growth, leaf water status, pigment content, gas exchange, and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters in Camellia sinensis cv. Fuding Dabaicha under well-watered (WW) and drought stress (DS) conditions. Root mycorrhizal colonization and soil hyphal length were significantly reduced by the eightweek DS treatment. AMF inoculation displayed a significant increase in shoot and root biomass production. The relative water content, leaf water potential, nitrogen balance index, pigment content, maximum photometric effect (Fv/Fm, QY_max), and steady-state photometric effect Y (II) (QY_Lss) decreased dramatically, while the leaf water saturation deficit and steady-state non-photochemical fluorescence quenching (NPQ_Lss) generally increased under DS conditions. Mycorrhizal treatment induced significantly higher relative water content, leaf water potential, nitrogen balance index, pigment (chlorophyll, flavonoid, and anthocyanin) content, net photosynthesis rate, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, intercellular CO2 concentration, QY_max, and QY_Lss; however, it resulted in a lower leaf water saturation deficit and NPQ_Lss under both WW and DS conditions, as compared with nonmycorrhizal plants. These results imply that AMF promoted tea plant growth and alleviated negative effects of DS by promoting gas exchange, regulating the water status of leaves, and regulating photosynthetic parameters. The study was conducted in order to determine the forage yield and some quality characteristics of silage sorghum genotypes at different water stress levels in the Randomized Complete Block Design arranged in split plots under Konya ecological conditions in 2020. Three irrigation treatments (I1: Full irrigation; I2: 75% of I1; I3: 50% of I1) and 14 silage sorghum genotypes supplied from other countries were used in this study, irrigation subjects formed the main parcels and the genotypes sub-plots. In the study, the lowest and highest values were; 4756 kg da-1 (I3)-6757 kg da-1 (I1) for green herbage yield; 1149 kg da-1 (I3)-2002 kg da-1 (I1) for dry matter yield, 8,1 % (I1)-9,6% (I2) for crude protein, 33.3% (I2)-34.5% (I1) for ADF ratio, 55% (I3)-58.4% (I2) for NDF ratio and and cellulose ratio was determined as 25.6% (I3)-28.2% (I1) respectively. The genotypes used in the study, in which the efficiency of irrigation water use efficiency increased as water stress increased, the lowest and highest dry matter yields were obtained from genotypes G-11 (4214 kg da-1) and G-4 (6961 kg da-1), respectively, while a total of 8 genotypes had higher green herbage yield values than the study average. The response of black poplar (Populus nigra L.) seedlings to the combination of both drought and sewage water irrigation have been investigated from 18-5-2019 to 18-8-2019. Two drought stress levels; D0; 90% or full water holding capacity (WHC) and D1; 30% WHC interacted with three sewage irrigation treatments; S0; 100 % of tap water as a control, S1; 50% of tap water and sewage water and S2; 100% of sewage water. The irrigation water quality index (IWQI) of S1 was 59.31 located under moderate restrictions class for irrigation purposes. Despite to its low pollution load index (PLI); 0.47. Fully irrigation to soil holding capacity with S1 (S1D0) led to a significant increase in seedling height, stem base diameter, fresh and dry biomass and moisture content in shoot system. In addition, the highest tolerance index (TI %) about 92.07 % of the seedlings recorded despite to the soil toxicity with Ni and Pb ions. Lowest accumulation and metal toxicity of Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb and Mn in the soil and leaves have been determined. Thus, diluting sewage water; 1:1 can be used to irrigate black poplar trees with high water demand and moderate to high tolerance to salts for reforestation and urban vegetation. Drought resistance of psammophyte determines survival and growth, but their responses to drought are not well understood. We conducted a pot experiment to study how physiological characteristics respond to drought and rehydration. We found that watering to 60–65% of field capacity (the control) provided more water than was required by Agriophyllum squarrosum and its leaves became yellow and slightly wilted. The total chlorophyll content and Fm (maximum fluorescence after dark adaptation) in control were lower than in the drought treatment, and both decreased after rehydration. With increasing drought duration and intensity, the relative water content (RWC), chlorophyll content, Fm, and the quantum efficiency of photosystem II (Fv/Fm) of Setaria viridis decreased, but malondialdehyde and membrane permeability increased. During the late drought, the activities of three antioxidant enzymes in A. squarrosum increased to prevent membrane lipid peroxidation; for S. viridis, only peroxidase and superoxide dismutase activities increased. After rehydration, RWC of both species increased, but Fv/Fm of A. squarrosum and Fm of S. viridis did not recover under severe drought. Our research illustrated that A. squarrosum is better adapted to arid environment than S. viridis, but the high soil moisture content is not conducive to normal growth of A. squarrosum. Sugarcane is a trans-seasonal long-duration crop and tillering phase (60–150 days) is the most sensitive phase for moisture stress, causing significant reduction in biomass accumulation. The study focussed to assess the Genotype × Environment Interaction (GEI) for tillering phase moisture stress and to identify the stable genotypes in sugarcane. The study dealt with 14 drought tolerant genotypes and two standards (Co 86032 and CoM 0265) which were evaluated in two plant and one ratoon trials at four locations in Maharashtra, India. The moisture stress was imposed for 60 days from 90 to 150 days after planting and corresponded to tillering phase by withholding the irrigation. The AMMI ANOVA showed significant GEI for cane and CCS yield accounting 18.33 and 19.45 percent of variability respectively. Drought and genotype main effects were highly significant accounting 49.08 and 32.59 percent variability for cane yield and, 52.45 and 28.10 percent variability for CCS yield respectively. The first two interactive principal component (IPCA) biplots of AMMI showed diverse nature of all four environments and the Discriminative vs Mean biplots of Genotype + genotype × environment interaction (GGE) model showed that 'Pune' as the highly discriminating environment. The genotype ranking biplots of GGE showed that Co 85019 was the most stable genotype followed by Co 98017. Similar results were also observed in Yield vs IPCA1 biplot of AMMI, which revealed Co 85019 and Co 98017 as high yielding stable varieties. Yield related environmental maximum (YREM) showed thirteen and nine percent loss due to crossover interactions in Co 85019 for cane yield and CCS yield respectively. The multi-environment BLUP and genotype stability index (GSI) has reaffirmed that Co 85019 as a drought proof and stable genotype with high yield under tillering phase drought stress. The results suggested using Co 85019 for cultivation in drought prone regions and the usefulness of the methodology for identifying more such sugarcane varieties for the benefit of resource poor famers in drought affected regions.
