The issues of state estimations based on distributed observers for linear time-invariant (LTI) systems with multiple sensors are discussed in this paper. We deal with the scenario when the information exchange has known time delays, and aim at designing a distributed observer for each subsystem such that each distributed observer can estimate the system state asymptotically by rejecting the time delay. To begin with, by rewriting the target system in a connecting form, a subsystem which is affected by the time-delay states of other nodes is established. And then, for this subsystem, a distributed observer with time delay is constructed. Moreover, an equivalent state transformation is made for the observer error dynamic system based on the observable canonic decomposition theorem. Further, in order to ensure that the distributed observer error dynamic system is asymptotically stable even if there exists a time delay, a linear matrix inequality (LMI) which is relative to the Laplace matrix is elaborately set up, and a special Lyapunov function candidate based on the LMI is considered. Next, based on the Lyapunov function and Lyapunov stability theory, we prove that the error dynamic system of the distributed observer is asymptotically stable, and the observer gain is determined by a feasible solution of the LMI. The unique edge states of the zigzag β-SiC7 nanoribbons aroused our attention, and therefore, based on first-principles calculations, we investigated their spin-dependent electronic transport properties by constructing controllable defects to modulate these special edge states. Interestingly, by introducing rectangular edge defects in the SiSi and SiC edge-terminated systems, not only the spin-unpolarized is successfully converted to completely spin-polarized, but also the direction of polarization can be switched, thus enabling a dual spin filter. The analyses further reveal that the two transmission channels with opposite spins are spatially separated and that the transmission eigenstates are highly concentrated at the relative edges. The specific edge defect introduced only suppresses the transmission channel at the same edge but reserves the transmission channel at the other edge. In addition, for the CSi and CC edge-terminated systems, an additional spin-down band exists due to spin splitting in the spin-up band at EF, so that besides the original spatially separated two spin-opposite channels, an extra spin channel is distributed at the upper edge, resulting in unidirectional fully spin-polarized transport. The peculiar spatially separated edge states and excellent spin filtering properties could open up further possibilities for β-SiC7-based electronic devices in spintronics applications. Aim: The serum creatinine/cystatin C ratio (CCR) or sarcopenia index is considered a useful marker of muscle mass. However, its usefulness in late‐stage older adults remains unclear. We aimed to determine the usefulness of CCR as an indicator of sarcopenia in community‐dwelling Japanese adults aged >75 years. Methods: Our study recruited participants aged 70, 80, and 90 ± 1 years during the baseline years, and included a 3‐year follow‐up in the Septuagenarians, Octogenarians, Nonagenarians, Investigation with Centenarians study. From 2015 to 2018, 955 participants were eligible: 367 in their 70s, 304 in their 80s, and 284 in their 90s. The diagnostic components of sarcopenia, including "low muscle mass, plus low muscle strength, and/or low physical performance," were evaluated using the bioelectrical impedance analysis‐measured skeletal muscle mass index (SMI), handgrip strength, and short physical performance battery (SPPB) score, respectively, in accordance with the Asia Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 criteria. Separate analyses were performed between each component and CCR, adjusting for sex, body mass index, and other blood biomarkers in each group. Results: The relationship between CCR and sarcopenia components was significant for handgrip strength (β = 0.21, 0.13, 0.19, and P < 0.0001, =0.0088, <0.0001, for the 70s, 80s, and 90s age groups, respectively); however, it was limited for SMI (β = 0.14; P = 0.0022, only for the 90s) and not significant for the SPPB score. Conclusion: CCR is a limited indicator of sarcopenia in late‐stage older adults. Nucleophilic substitutions are fundamentally important transformations in synthetic organic chemistry. Despite the substantial advances in bimolecular nucleophilic substitutions (SN2) at saturated carbon centers, analogous SN2 reaction at the amide nitrogen atom remains extremely limited. Here we report an SN2 substitution method at the amide nitrogen atom with amine nucleophiles for nitrogen–nitrogen (N−N) bond formation that leads to a novel strategy toward biologically and medicinally important hydrazide derivatives. We found the use of sulfonate‐leaving groups at the amide nitrogen atom played a pivotal role in the reaction. This new N−N coupling reaction allows the use of O‐tosyl hydroxamates as electrophiles and readily available amines, including acyclic aliphatic amines and saturated N‐heterocycles as nucleophiles. The reaction features mild conditions, broad substrate scope (>80 examples), excellent functional group tolerability, and scalability. Introduction: The relationship among physiologic reserve, intrinsic capacity, and physical resilience has not been examined, and a conceptual model that includes these key determinants of healthy ageing is needed. This study aimed to test a conceptual model using real-world data to determine the relationships among physiologic reserve, intrinsic capacity, physical resilience, and clinical outcomes. Methods: This longitudinal study was conducted at a 1,343-bed tertiary-care medical centre. Patients were eligible for inclusion if they were 65 years of age or older and able to communicate independently. Demographic factors, cumulative illness rating scale for geriatrics [CIRS-G] (assessing physiologic reserve), intrinsic capacity, physical resilience instrument for older adults [PRIFOR] (assessing physical resilience), and clinical frailty scale [CFS] were collected at admission. The CFS and EuroQoL 5-dimension 3-level questionnaire [EQ5D] were administered at discharge. Results: The mean age of the 413 patients was 76.34 ± 6.72 (52.5% female). Two conceptual models were identified and supported. Specifically, the path coefficients in the two models showed that the CIRS-G had diverse associations with each intrinsic capacity domain, and that all intrinsic capacity domains (except vitality) were significantly associated with PRIFOR. Moreover, PRIFOR was significantly associated with follow-up CFS, baseline control, and EQ5D scores. Conclusion: Physiologic reserve positively correlated with the cognitive and locomotive domains of intrinsic capacity. Moreover, older patients with better intrinsic capacity may have improved physical resilience, which may lead to better clinical outcomes. Background: Autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) can cause enormous health burdens; however, trustworthy biomarkers in identifying the onset and progression of AITD are limited. In this study, we attempted to discover new potential serum biomarkers to discriminate AITD using mass spectrometry (MS). Methods: In the biomarker study cohort, 20 patients with Graves' disease (GD), 20 patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), and 20 healthy controls were enrolled for a liquid chromatographic-tandem MS assessment. A novel biomarker, keratin 1 (KRT1), was selected for further evaluation in the validation cohort, including 125 patients with GD, 34 patients with HT, and 77 controls. Relationships of serum KRT1 with AITD-related immunomodulatory cytokines were also analyzed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs). Results: In the MS analysis, KRT1 was the single marker overexpressed in GD, while it was underexpressed in HT. In the ELISA analysis of the validation cohort, KRT1 was consistently upregulated in GD, while it was not downregulated in HT. There were significant associations of KRT1 levels with thyroid function in GD, AITD, and overall subjects. Additionally, a significant association of KRT1 levels with thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor antibody (TSHRAb) levels was observed. Moreover, there were significant associations of KRT1 with osteopontin (OPN) and B-cell activating factor (BAFF) levels in GD. Conclusions: Serum KRT1 levels were upregulated in GD and were associated with thyroid function and TSHRAb levels. Moreover, KRT1 was correlated with the BAFF and OPN levels in GD patients. A new lithophytic species, Paraboea zunyiensis T.Deng, F.Wen & R.B.Zhang (Gesneriaceae), inhabiting Karst rocks in northern Guizhou, China, is introduced and depicted in this study. It bears a resemblance to P. crassifolia (Hemsl.) B.L. Burtt, yet is distinguishable by its shorter filaments and staminodes, triangular ovate calyx segments, and ovaries surpassing the styles in length. Moreover, the phylogenetic tree constructed from nuclear DNA (ITS) and plastid DNA (trnL-F) data firmly support the differentiation of this novel species from P. crassifolia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In early 2020, the Australian government implemented lockdown restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Our study aims to investigate the impact of lockdowns on sexual desire and enjoyment of sex among Australian women. We conducted an online survey in August 2020 when Victoria was in strict lockdown, but all other states/territories had minimal restrictions. Here, we report on responses from female participants aged ≥18 years. Respondents were asked whether COVID-19 had impacted their desire and/or enjoyment of sex (yes/no). Those who responded "yes" were asked to elaborate in a free-text question. Factors associated with desire were investigated using the chi-square test. Conventional content analysis was used to explore free-text responses. Of the 622 participants, 44.1% reported COVID-19 related impacts on their sexual desire. Women living in Victoria, who were not heterosexual, and whose employment was negatively affected by lockdown were all more likely to report an impact on their sexual desire. Free-text comments revealed that mental health, living arrangements, and a reduced ability to meet with sexual partners were key reasons behind these impacts. The COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown measures clearly impacted the desire and enjoyment of sex for many women, important factors of people's relationships, health, and wellbeing. Water collection via fiber-based coalescers shows promise in mitigating increasing water scarcity, and most studies usually focus on the water collection by accumulating water through successive coalescences of fog in the absence of condensation. Here, we report on non-uniform condensate morphologies observed during air–vapor mixture condensation on a cantilevered microfiber. Due to the competition between thermal conduction resistance within the fiber and condensation heat transfer resistance on the fiber surface, the vapor diffusive flux along the fiber varies accordingly, engendering three representative condensate morphologies. We systematically examine the effects of fiber length, diameter, and material (constantan, 316L steel, and alumel) on these condensate morphologies. Scaling analyses are also provided to reveal the underlying physics. Our experimental investigations and theoretical analyses reported in this work shed more light on air–vapor mixture condensation mechanisms that could pave the way to future condensation-associated applications. In this article, the transient heat transfer process of the multilayer thermal protection system (TPS) doped with the phase change materials (PCM) is studied. The multilayer TPS consists of the C/SiC composite material, alumina aerogel, silica aerogel, and silica aerogel doped with the PCM. A thermal lattice Boltzmann model is adopted to consider the effect of interlayer thermal contact resistance on the transient thermal response of the TPS. An enthalpy-based lattice Boltzmann model is adopted to solve the solid–liquid phase change problem. The transient heat transfer characteristics of two kinds of TPSs in different layouts are analyzed in detail. The results show that whether the doped PCM enhances the thermal insulation performance of the TPS depends on the layout design of the multiple layers and service time. There exists an optimal layer thickness of the PCM that makes a TPS have the best thermal insulation performance, and the optimal value increases with the service time. The interlayer thermal contact resistance can have a significant effect on the transient thermal response of the TPS, and the optimal value of the PCM thickness will reduce. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For plate structures, their random parameters can be regarded as a two-dimensional random field in the plane. To solve the plate theory considering a two-dimensional random field, an efficient strategy for the stochastic finite element method was adopted. Firstly, the stochastic finite element method was used to establish the plate structural model, in which the random field characteristics of the parameter were considered, and the mathematical expression of its random field was obtained through the Karhunen–Loève expansion; secondly, the point estimate method was applied to calculate the statistics of random structures. The computational efficiency can be significantly improved through the reference point selection strategy. The accuracy and efficiency of the calculation strategy were verified, and the influences of correlation length and coefficient of variation of the parameter on the random response of plate structures under different plate types (including Kirchhoff plate and Mindlin plate) and boundary conditions (including simply supported and clamped supported) were discussed. The article discusses research which evaluated the completeness of comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) in relation to care outcomes among hospitalized older patients in Indonesia. The study assessed readmission rates, medical records of patients after hospital discharge, in-hospital mortality and predictors of length of hospital stay. Results show care outcomes in relation to ward type and the implications of CGA completeness for nurse leaders.

Research was conducted on the growth performance and nutritional quality of Chinese mitten crabs (Eriocheir sinensis) during a 62-day growing period in a symbiotic coculture comprising rice and crab. Culture experiments were conducted in three rice fields of equal size (996 m2). On days 0 (July 15, D0), 15 (July 30, D15), 31 (August 15, D31), 46 (August 30, D46), and 62 (September 2, D62), tissue samples of 50 female E. sinensis were collected randomly from each rice field. The results showed that the serum growth hormone (GH) content and muscle ecdysone receptor (EcR) mRNA expression levels were higher in the D31 and D46 groups; the content of serum 20-hydroxyecdysone (20-HE) and the mRNA expression levels of retinoid X receptor (RXR), insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2), and chitinase (CHI) reached the maximum in the D31 group. Muscle crude protein content gradually increased; hepatopancreas crude protein and crude lipid content began to decrease after reaching the maximum value in the D0 and D15 groups, respectively; the contents of crude protein and crude lipid in the ovary significantly increased in the D46 and D62 groups (P < 0.05). The content of muscle essential amino acids (EAA) reached the maximum in the D46 group; the hepatopancreas EAA content began to decrease significantly in the D31 group (P < 0.05); and the EAA content of the ovary decreased significantly after reaching the maximum value in the D46 group (P < 0.05). The muscle contents of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3PUFA) and the ratio of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids/n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n3/n6) decreased significantly in the D31 group (P < 0.05); the hepatopancreas contents of EPA, PUFA, n-3PUFA, and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-6PUFA) and the ratio of n3/n6 began to decrease after reaching the maximum value in the D31 group, ethyl behenate (21:0), tetracosanoic acid (24:0), DPA, and DHA contents were detected for the first time in the D31 group; the ovary PUFA, n-3PUFA contents, and n3/n6 ratio of the D46 and D62 groups were significantly lower than those of the D31 group (P < 0.05). During the experimental conditions described here, female E. sinensis raised in rice fields reached rapid growth from August 15 to August 30. Additionally, the nutritional quality of the female E. sinensis edible tissues (muscle, hepatopancreas, and ovary) began to decline after August 15, when sufficient nutrients such as protein, lipid, EAA, and PUFA should be provided to the female E. sinensis. Automated manipulation of small particles using external (e.g., magnetic, electric and acoustic) fields has been an emerging technique widely used in different areas. The manipulation typically necessitates a reduced‐order physical model characterizing the field‐driven motion of particles in a complex environment. Such models are available only for highly idealized settings but are absent for a general scenario of particle manipulation typically involving complex nonlinear processes, which has limited its application. In this work, the authors present a data‐driven architecture for controlling particles in microfluidics based on hydrodynamic manipulation. The architecture replaces the difficult‐to‐derive model by a generally trainable artificial neural network to describe the kinematics of particles, and subsequently identifies the optimal operations to manipulate particles. The authors successfully demonstrate a diverse set of particle manipulations in a numerically emulated microfluidic chamber, including targeted assembly of particles and subsequent navigation of the assembled cluster, simultaneous path planning for multiple particles, and steering one particle through obstacles. The approach achieves both spatial and temporal controllability of high precision for these settings. This achievement revolutionizes automated particle manipulation, showing the potential of data‐driven approaches and machine learning in improving microfluidic technologies for enhanced flexibility and intelligence. Carbon polymer dots are a kind of emerging carbon dots and generally synthesized by a bottom-up method. Because of the diversity of the reaction processes and product structures, the luminescence of carbon polymer dots is different, which induces indeterminate luminescence mechanisms. Hence, confirming the luminescence mechanism of carbon polymer dots is significant for developing applications. In this work, the prepared carbon polymer dots exhibited solvatochromism after dissolution in different solvents. Then, after theoretical model analyses, it was found that the emission of carbon polymer dots was derived from molecular luminescence related to hydrogen bond effects. In addition, the luminescence of carbon polymer dots was mainly affected by hydrogen bonds between the surface groups of carbon polymer dots and the solvent molecules. Moreover, detection of trace water in organic solvents was realized based on the super sensitivity of carbon polymer dots to the polarity of organic solvents. And, using different polymers, which had different strengths of hydrogen bonding, modified carbon polymer dots were prepared for multi-color cell imaging. This work not only reveals the luminescence mechanism of carbon polymer dots synthesized using phenylenediamine as the precursor but also explores the detection and bio-imaging applications of carbon polymer dots synthesized from small molecules. The Chinese stock market exhibits many characteristics that deviate from the efficient market hypothesis and the trading volume contains a great deal of complexity information that the price cannot reflect. Do small or big orders drive trading volume? We studied the complex behavior of different orders from a microstructure perspective. We used ETF data of the CSI300, SSE50, and CSI500 indices and divided transactions into big and small orders. A multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MFDFA) method was used to study persistence. It was found that the persistence of small orders was stronger than that of big orders, which was caused by correlation with time. A multiscale composite complexity synchronization (MCCS) method was used to study the synchronization of orders and total volume. It was found that small orders drove selling-out transactions in the CSI300 market and that big orders drove selling-out transactions in the CSI500 market. Klotho is an anti-aging gene. Studies have revealed its association with insulin resistance. Visceral fat is related to insulin resistance, and the sagittal abdominal diameter (SAD) can serve as a biomarker for visceral fat (VF). This study investigated the association between SAD and serum Klotho concentration (SKC). We enrolled 2301 participants from the 2011–2012 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) dataset, and 49.2% of the enrolled individuals were male. Qualified participants were separated into four quartiles according to the SAD value. SKC values were obtained by ELISA. Demographic characteristics, body mass index (BMI), systolic blood pressure, and biochemistry parameters with significance were analyzed using multivariate linear regression models. The mean age of the study participants was 57.22 ± 10.53 years. The fully adjusted regression model showed a negative association between SAD and SKC (p < 0.05), with a β-coefficient of −12.02. We also analyzed subgroups of participants according to age and BMI. Participants with an age ≥65 and <65 years old were each negatively associated with SKC, and this association was significant for participants with a BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2 (p = 0.001, β-coefficient: −18.83). We also found a concentration-dependent relationship between SAD and SKC. In conclusion, VF and SKC are associated, and SAD can serve as a surrogate of VF and an indicator of SKC. Aerosols, through cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) or ice nuclei (IN), affect cloud microphysics. With increasing concentrations of aerosols, it is important to consider the impact of IN along with CCN on clouds and precipitation in numerical simulations; further, aerosols may also affect the weather-modification seeding effect. On the basis of the observation of natural IN concentration and cloud-drop number concentrations, numerical sensitivity experiments for a snowfall case were designed to study the effects of parameters of IN and cloud number concentrations at the cloud base to consider the CCN effects on clouds and precipitation as well as weather-modification seeding effects. Generally, with smaller cloud-drop number concentration, the mass contents were much lower. With more ice nuclei, more ice crystals were able to nucleate, and additional snow particles were generated through ice crystals. Cloud-drop number concentrations heavily affected the location and amount of snowfall. During the 1e9 test, 2.4 mm was the highest reduction in the amount of snowfall; additionally, the amount of snowfall from the combined impacts of increased IN and cloud-drop number decreased in wide areas, and its maximum precipitation reduction exceeded 2.7 mm as well as up to 15% of the daily amount of snowfall. More IN reduced the artificial seeding effect, lowered the increase in snowfall in the center of the seeding, and lowered the reduction of snowfall in the reduction center of the seeding. LHCb Collaboration studied the resonant structure of B s → D ¯ 0 K - π + decays using the Dalitz plot analysis technique, based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb - 1 of pp collision. The K - π + components have been analyzed in the amplitude model, where the decay amplitude is modeled to be the resonant contributions with respect to the intermediate resonances K ∗ (892) , K 0 ∗ (1430) and K 2 ∗ (1430) . Motivated by the experimental results, we investigate the CKM-favored quasi-two-body B → D ¯ 0 K π decays in the framework of the perturbative QCD (PQCD) approach. We calculate the the branching fractions by introducing the appropriate wave functions of K π pair. Our results are in agreement well the available data, and others can be tested in LHCb and Belle-II experiments. Using the narrow-width-approximation, we also extract the branching fractions of the corresponding two-body B → D ¯ R decays, which agree to the previous theoretical calculations and the experimental data within the errors. Post-stroke dysphagia (PSD) is a common and costly complication of stroke and is associated with increased mortality, morbidity, and hospitalization. Although most patients can spontaneously resume swallowing, there are still many patients who do not recover and even die. Despite multiple advances in the acute treatment and secondary prevention of stroke, the effective treatment of PSD remains a neglected area. Studies have shown that repair mechanisms of neurostimulation techniques and increased cortical activity play an important role in the treatment of PSD. In addition, nutritional interventions are also crucial for the treatment of malnutrition in PSD patients. Therefore, this article reviews the effects of the current main clinical treatment methods and nutritional interventions on the treatment and rehabilitation of PSD patients. It also emphasized the necessity of developing an individualized care plan for PSD patients, which is of great significance to promote the clinical treatment, nutritional status, prognosis, and quality of life of PSD patients. Hexavalent chromium, Cr(VI), is a ubiquitous toxic metal that can be reduced to Cr(III) by nano-zero-valent iron (nZVI). Finding out effects of continuous rainfall leaching on the Cr(VI) release and availability remains a problem, needing to be addressed. Whether the Cr(VI) reduction by nZVI and continuous rainfall leaching lead to localized heterogeneity in soil is unclear. Therefore, two in situ high-resolution (HR) techniques of the diffusive gradients in thin-films (DGT) and planar optode were combined with ex situ sampling experiments here. Results demonstrate that nZVI decreased Cr(VI) leaching by 5.60–8.50 % compared to control soils. DGT-measured concentrations of Cr(VI), C DGT -Cr(VI), ranged from 7.31 to 19.4 μg L-1 in the control soils, increasing with depth while C DGT -Cr(VI) in nZVI-treated soils (2.41–6.18 μg L-1) decreased or remained stable with depth. However, simulated acid-rain leaching increases C DGT -Cr(VI) by 1.61-fold in nZVI-treated soils, negatively affecting the remediation. DGT measurements in bulk soils using disc devices are better at capturing the change of Cr(VI) availability at different conditions, whereas 2D-HR DGT mappings did not characterize significant mobilization of Cr(VI) at the micro-scale. These findings emphasize the importance of monitoring Cr(VI) release and availability in remediated soil under acid-rain leaching conditions for effective environment management. The widespread herding effect prevalent in China's stock market is caused by investors' bounded rationality behavior. However, the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. This article aims to use the stochastic Ising financial model, which explains this problem from the perspective of Econophysics. The probability density function and power-law distribution of return data simulated by the stochastic Ising financial model show sharp peaks and fat tails, similar to the stylized facts of real Chinese stock market data. Further, we use this financial model to simulate herding behavior in the market. The results show that when the degree of investor irrationality (represented by β) increases, the Herd Effect Index (HERDI) also rises. When β exceeds a critical point, the HERDI index fluctuates more violently. Imatinib (IM), a milestone drug used in the field of molecular targeted therapy, has been reported to cause serious adverse liver effects, including liver failure and even death. Immune-mediated injury and mitochondrial dysfunction are involved in drug-induced liver injury. However, the mechanism of IM-induced hepatotoxicity remains unclear and warrants further study. In our study, Sprague Dawley rats were administered IM by gavage with 50 mg/kg body weight (BW) once daily for 10 days. Drug-induced liver injury accompanied by inflammatory infiltration was observed in rats following IM exposure, and the expression of NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome-related proteins was significantly increased compared with that of the control. HepG2 cells were exposed to 0–100 μM IM for 24 h. The results showed that IM decreased cell viability in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, IM induced a state of obvious oxidative stress and activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) in cells, which resulted in the activation of NLRP3 inflammasomes, including caspase 1 cleavage and IL-1β release. These results were significantly reduced after the use of the antioxidants N-acetyl-l-cysteine or the NF-κB inhibitor pyrrolidine di-thio-carbamate. Furthermore, NLRP3 knockdown significantly reduced the release of inflammatory cytokines and improved cell viability. In summary, our data demonstrated that oxidative stress and NLRP3 inflammasome activation are involved in the process of IM-induced hepatotoxicity. In this paper, the aging relationship between holding time and the interfacial solid solution was utilized to prepare high-performance agglomerated white fused alumina (AWA) abrasives. The influence of holding time on the interfacial solid solution and mechanical properties of AWA abrasives were systematically investigated, and the grinding performance was thoroughly analyzed. The results showed that increasing the holding time caused the Al 2 O 3 to violently infiltrate the interface between the white fused alumina (WA) particles and the vitrified bond, which led to the precipitation of a large amount of β-spodumene and monoclinic celsian in the vitrified bond and transformed the simple mechanical bonds between the WA particles and the vitrified bond into stronger chemical bonds. Thus, it was possible to control the mechanical properties of the AWA abrasives by adjusting the holding time. Specifically, after sintering at 760 °C for 4h, the single particle compressive strength and impact toughness reached the maximum values of 26 N and 63%, respectively. In recent years, the increasing number of obese individuals in Japan has made transplant teams sometimes forced to select candidates with a high body mass index (BMI) as marginal donors in living donor liver transplantation. However, data are lacking regarding the impact of a high BMI on the outcome for liver donors, particularly over the long term. Here, we aimed to clarify the impact of a high BMI on postoperative short- and long-term outcomes in liver donors. We selected 80 cases that had complete 5-year data available from hepatectomies performed in 2005 to 2015 in our institute. We divided donors into overweight (BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2, n = 16) and normal-weight (BMI < 25, n = 64) groups. Preoperatively, the overweight group had significantly higher preoperative levels of serum alanine aminotransferase and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase and a larger liver volume than the normal-weight group. Although the overweight group had significantly greater intraoperative blood loss (660 ± 455 vs 312 ± 268 mL, P =.0018) and longer operation times (463 ± 88 vs 386 ± 79 min, P =.0013), the groups showed similar frequencies of postoperative complications. At 1 year post hepatectomy, liver regeneration and spleen enlargement ratios did not significantly differ between the 2 groups. Remarkably, the overweight group showed significantly higher serum γ-glutamyl transpeptidase levels over the long term. Overweight status alone was not a risk factor for either short- or long-term postoperative outcomes after a donor hepatectomy. Devising carbon dots with long wavelength emission (red light or near infrared), high selectivity and good bio-compatibility is critical in fluorescence detection and imaging, but achieving this goal remains a great challenge. Herein, near-infrared emissive carbon dots (NIR-CDs) with obvious emission characteristic of 653 nm were synthesized through hydrothermally treatment of toluidine bule and gallic acid. Noticeably, the NIR-CDs exhibited excellent selectivity and sensitivity to hypochlorite (ClO−), and the limit of detection is as low as 42.7 nM. The selective recognition reaction between ClO− and the surface functional groups of NIR-CDs inhibits the fluorescence from NIR-CDs. The quenching mechanism was confirmed by fluorescence lifetime decays, FT-IR spectroscopy and UV–vis absorption spectra. More remarkably, the NIR-CDs have rich hydrophilic groups showed lower cytotoxicity, excellent bio-compatibility and specific cell membrane localization ability. The established spectrofluorometric method based on NIR-CDs has been used to determination of ClO− level in tap water sample, the recoveries were 97.7 %–103.3 %. In addition, the NIR-CDs also has been successfully applied for the imaging of cell membrane. The study provides a novel idea for developing NIR ClO− probe as well as cell membrane localization probe based on CDs, which present bright prospects in real water samples monitoring and cell membrane imaging. • Pore-scale modeling on the natural convection in reconstructed porous media. • The critical pore size where natural convection become significant is determined. • Effects of pore structure and heating direction on critical pore size are explored. • A general criterion is proposed to determine the significance of natural convection. Heat conduction in porous media is generally accompanied by the natural convection of the fluid within the pores driven by the temperature gradient. However, the criterion to determine the critical pore size of porous media where the natural convection cannot be neglected remains elusive. In this study, a pore-scale model is established to investigate the contributions of natural convection on the effective thermal conductivity (ETC) of porous media, which takes the reconstructed microstructures as the geometry input. We thus examine the effects of the porosity, thermal conductivity of the fluid and solid phases, and heating direction on the critical pore size where the natural convection starts to work. The results show that the critical pore size decreases with increasing porosity and heating temperature, but increases with the rise in the thermal conductivity of solid phase. Moreover, the critical pore size is significantly lower for the lateral heating, compared with the bottom heating. As geological exploration conditions become increasingly complex, meeting the requirements of precise geological exploration necessitates the development of a controlled-source audio magnetotelluric (CSAMT) inversion method that considers anisotropy to improve the effectiveness of inversion accuracy and interpretation accuracy of data. This study is based on the 3D finite-difference forward modeling of axis anisotropy using the reciprocity theorem to calculate the Jacobian matrix by applying the search method to automatically search for the Lagrange operator. The aim is to establish inversion iteration equations to achieve the axis anisotropic Occam’s 3D inversion of tensor CSAMT in data space. Further, we obtain an underground axis anisotropic 3D geoelectric model by inverting the impedance data of tensor CSAMT. Two synthetic data examples show that using the isotropic tensor CSAMT algorithm to directly invert data in anisotropic media can generate false anomalies, leading to incorrect geological interpretations. Meanwhile, the proposed anisotropic inversion algorithm can effectively improve the accuracy of data inversion in anisotropic media. To research the problem of abnormal transmission, experiments were conducted under the conditions of the BMW F18 model. The real-time signal mutation value of PT-CAN was measured by the IBIM synthetic testing box, and the cause of abnormal transmission on the data bus was identified by the value of the signal mutation. Experiments compared and analyzed the signal waveform of PT-CAN under the conditions of normal data transmission, CAN_H to ground loaded with different resistance, CAN_H to battery loaded with different resistance, CAN_L to ground loaded with different resistance, CAN_L to battery loaded with different resistance, between CAN_H and L loaded with different resistance, when CAN_H or L was disconnected, and when CAN_H and L were interchanged. Experimental results indicate that abnormal data transmission may cause abnormal signal waveform of PT-CAN bus, and the different PT-CAN signal clutter has certain different forms and reasons. Actinostephanus, a new genus from southern China, is described and colorfully illustrated with a single species, A. enpingensis. This new genus is morphologically most similar to Boeica and Leptoboea, nevertheless, it can be easily distinguished from the latter two by the following characteristics, such as leaves in whorls of three, all closely clustered at the top; corolla bowl-shaped, 5-lobed, actinomorphic; capsule hard, oblong-ovoid, short, 3-4 mm long, densely appressed villous, wrapped by persistent densely pubescent calyx lobes, style persistent. The new genus and related genera were sequenced using the next-generation sequencing technique. The whole plastid genome of the new genus is 154, 315 - 154, 344 bp in length. We reconstructed phylogenetic trees using the dataset of 80 encoded protein genes of the whole plastid genome from 47 accessions based on ML and BI analyses. The result revealed that the new genus was recovering in a polytomy including Boeica, Rhynchotechum, and Leptoboea with strong support, congruent to the morphological evidence. A global conservation assessment was also performed and classifies A. enpingensis as Least Concern (LC). In addition, after a review of recently described species of Gesneriaceae, we propose that plant enthusiasts, especially Gesneriad fans, have been playing an increasingly important role in the process of new taxa-discoveries. Freezing of water droplets impacting a cold substrate is a commonly encountered circumstance impairing the performance and safety of various applications. Active methods of ice removal such as heating or mechanical means are energy intensive and inconvenient. Here, we report a passive ice removal method via harvesting the thermal-mechanical stress of ice, leading to the self-peeling of frozen water droplets upon impacting a cold substrate. We find that the frozen ice completely self-peels and is then easily removable from a cold hydrophobic surface whiles the ice exhibits cracking and remains firmly sticky to a hydrophilic surface. The peeling behaviors of frozen water droplets are then scrutinized by varying the subcooling degree, impact parameters and wettability. Moreover, we develop a theoretical model to characterize the peeling and bending behaviors of the ice and also provides a simple criterion to predict the occurrence of complete self-peeling, facilitating the design of anti-icing surfaces. When water droplets impact a cold surface they freeze, and their removal is problematic in many applications. Here, the authors show experimentally and by thermo-mechanical modeling that surface temperature difference and wettability influence droplet freezing, and when the surface is sufficiently cold and hydrophobic, the forming ice layer peels-off at the edges, making it easy to remove the ice from the interface. Test fixtures with high power capacity and an impedance matching network are generally chosen for measurements of high-power gallium nitride high electron mobility transistors. To make interconnection of the test fixtures and devices under test, wire bonding is an effective assembly method. Bonding wires become dominant parasitic elements, especially in the S parameter measurement and loadpull measurement, which should be taken into account and accurately de-embedded for device measurements and modeling. In this paper, test fixtures and through-reflect-line calibration kits are designed to achieve the S parameter measurements of the bonding wire with a vector network analyzer. Equivalent inductances of the bonding wire can be obtained with the electromagnetic simulation model and compact circuit model proposed based on the test fixture. The good agreement of the equivalent inductances extracted with the test fixture and models verified that the way to characterize bonding wire interconnection is effective and accurate. Cree's CGHV1J006D is chosen to take the S parameter measurement for proving the accurate model of the bonding wire. Finally, the equivalent inductance of the 2 mm gate-width transistor is obtained with the electromagnetic model. AbstractThe purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of social support on the relationship between social activity and depressive symptoms among older widows in Taiwan. A cross-sectional study was conducted that recruited 256 older widows in southern Taiwan. Data were collected on demographic characteristics, self-rated health, instrumental activities of daily living, social activity, social support, and depression. Multiple linear regressions performed examined whether social activities and social support were significantly associated with depressive symptoms and which types of social activity were significantly related to social support and depressive symptoms. Mediation analyses performed tested the mediation effect of social support between the number of different types of social activities performed (termed "number of activities" in this study) and depression. Overall, 17.2% of the participants reported having at least two depressive symptoms. The total effect of the number of activities on depressive symptoms was significant (p < .001). The direct pathway from the number of activities to depressive symptoms remained significant (p < .001), and the mediation pathway (from the number of activities to depressive symptoms through social support) was also significant (Bootstrap CI = −.072, −.003). These findings demonstrated that older widows had more social support when they participated in more social activities, which could then decrease depressive symptoms. In addition, informal community group activities and religious group activities were the most effective at increasing social support and reducing depressive symptoms among the older Taiwanese widows. Background: Angiostrongyliasis is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by the rat lungworm Angiostrongylus cantonensis. The intermediate hosts of A. cantonensis are gastropods, and snail species such as Pomacea canaliculata play a key role in the transmission of human angiostrongyliasis. Detecting A. cantonensis infection in snails is an important component of epidemiological surveillance and the control of angiostrongyliasis. Methods: In this study, a new method for diagnosing A. cantonensis infection in gastropods was developed by recovering larvae from the buccal cavity of three snail species. The entire buccal cavity of a snail was extracted, and the tissue was pressed between two microscope slides to observe whether A. cantonensis larvae were present. Our new method was compared with traditional pathogenic detection methods of lung microscopy, tissue homogenization, and artificial digestion. We artificially infected 160 P. canaliculata, 160 Cipangopaludina chinensis, and 160 Bellamya aeruginosa snails with A. cantonensis. Then, the four different detection methods were used to diagnose infection in each snail species at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days post exposure. Results: We found no significant difference in the percentages of infected P. canaliculata snails using the four methods to detect A. cantonensis larvae. The radula pressing method had a mean detection rate of 80%, while the lung microscopy (81.3%), tissue homogenization (83.8%), and artificial digestion (85%) methods had slightly greater detection rates. Similarly, the percentages of infected C. chinensis snails that were detected using the radula pressing (80%), tissue homogenization (82.1%), and artificial digestion (83.8%) methods were not significantly different. Finally, the percentages of infected B. aeruginosa snails that were detected using the radula pressing (81.3%), tissue homogenization (81.9%), and artificial digestion (81.4%) methods were not significantly different. These results showed that the radula pressing method had a similar detection rate to traditional lung microscopy, tissue homogenization, or artificial digestion methods. Conclusions: This study demonstrates a new method for the qualitative screening of gastropods that act as intermediate hosts of A. cantonensis (and other Angiostrongylus species), provides technical support for the control of human angiostrongyliasis, and furthers research on A. cantonensis. To date, mixed-cation lead mixed-halide perovskite materials are the mainstream choice to serve as lightabsorption layers when fabricating single-junction perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and PSC-based tandem solar cells with high efficiency and good stability. However, the universally adopted thermal annealing protocol (~100 °C for 30, 60, or even 90 min) has issues when used for multi-cation mixed-halide perovskites, such as being time-consuming and involving the potentially severe loss of organic components from the perovskite surface. Herein, we develop a high-temperature inverted annealing strategy for post-treating CsFAMA triple-cation mixed-halide perovskite films. The inverted annealing method, with a heating time of only 5 min at 150 °C with the film side placed face-down, is demonstrated to exhibit superiority when compared with the generally adopted annealing approach with the film side placed face-up. Upon inverted annealing, the perovskite film shows significantly enlarged grains together with markedly reduced defect states, especially at its surface, arising from slowed solvent evaporation and the suppressed volatilization of organic halide components. Corresponding photovoltaic devices achieved a highest efficiency of 20.4% with a stabilized power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 19.8%. Furthermore, we demonstrate that this annealing strategy is also applicable to other perovskite materials, providing an alternative method for efficiently preparing high-quality perovskite films. In chartreusin biosynthesis, the early 13C‐labeling experiments and bioinformatic analysis suggest the unusual aglycone is originated from a tetracyclic anthracyclic polyketide. Here, we demonstrated that the carbon skeleton rearrangement from a linear anthracyclic polyketide to an angular pentacyclic biosynthetic intermediate requires two redox enzymes. The flavin‐dependent monooxygenase ChaZ catalyses a Baeyer–Villiger oxidation on resomycin C to form a seven‐membered lactone. Subsequently, a ketoreductase ChaE rearranges the carbon skeleton and affords the α‐pyrone containing pentacyclic intermediate in an NADPH‐dependent manner via tandem reactions including the reduction of the lactone carbonyl group, Aldol‐type reaction, followed by a spontaneous γ‐lactone ring formation, oxidation and aromatization. Integrating the wireless power transfer (WPT) technology into the wireless communication system has been important for operational cost saving and power-hungry problem solving of electronic devices. In this paper, we propose a resonant beam simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (RB-SWIPT) system, which utilizes a gain medium and two retro-reflecting surfaces to enhance and retro-reflect energy, and allows devices to recharge their batteries and exchange information from the resonant beam wirelessly. To reveal the SWIPT mechanism and evaluate the SWIPT performance, we establish an analytical end-to-end (E $\mathscr{2}$ E) transmission model based on a modular approach and the electromagnetic field propagation. Then, the intra-cavity power intensity distribution, transmission loss, output power, and E $\mathscr{2}$ E efficiency can be obtained. The numerical evaluation illustrates that the exemplary RB-SWIPT system can provide about 4.20 W electric power and 12.41 bps/Hz spectral efficiency, and shorter transmission distance or larger retro-reflecting surface size can lead to higher E $\mathscr{2}$ E efficiency. Summary: We retrospectively reviewed 220 living liver donors, with a focus on the development of postoperative fatty liver. Data regarding demographics, comorbidities, imaging tests, operations and biopsies were obtained from medical records. We used unenhanced CT and USG to diagnose fatty liver. Donor candidates with fatty liver underwent weight loss intervention until imaging tests no longer demonstrated any features of fatty liver. Among 220 donors, 61 were diagnosed with preoperative fatty liver. The mean BMI of these 61 donors significantly decreased from 24.9 at the first visit to 23.6 kg/m2 immediately before surgery (P = 0.0386). A multivariate analysis revealed the following significant risk factors for postoperative fatty liver: male sex (P = 0.0033), BMI immediately before surgery (P = 0.0028) and a history of treatment for preoperative fatty liver (P = 0.0231). Postoperative fatty liver was often refractory to weight loss intervention. No improvement was observed in 14 of the 32 donors who had been diagnosed with fatty liver postoperatively, and one of the 14 donors even developed NASH. In conclusion, special attention should be paid to prevent fatty liver after surgery in male donors who show a high BMI immediately before surgery and with a history of treatment for preoperative fatty liver, and lifelong follow‐up is recommended. A link between sex hormones and B-cell activating factor (BAFF), a crucial immunoregulator of autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD), may exist. The study aimed to elucidate the role of estrogen (E2) in regulating BAFF in Graves' disease (GD). In clinical samples, serum BAFF levels were higher in women than in men in both the GD and control groups. serum BAFF levels were associated with thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor antibody levels and thyroid function only in women and not in men. BAFF transcripts in peripheral blood mononuclear cells were higher in women with GD than those in the control group. Among GD patients with the AA genotype of rs2893321, women had higher BAFF transcripts and protein levels than men. In the progression of a spontaneous autoimmune thyroiditis (SAT) murine model, NOD.H-2h4, serum free thyroxine and BAFF levels were higher in female than in male mice. Moreover, exogenous E2 treatment increased serum BAFF levels in male SAT mice. Meanwhile, female SAT mice exhibited higher thyroid BAFF transcripts levels than either the E2-treated or untreated male SAT mouse groups. Background: Older adults occupy one third of acute care hospital beds, and the regular duties of many nurses include caring for older patients. A working knowledge of geriatric care competencies is necessary for nurses to provide high-quality care to older patients and their families. It is unclear how nurses who work in acute care hospitals self-evaluate their geriatric care competencies and how these self-evaluated abilities differ from the objective abilities of these nurses. Purposes: This study was designed to explore the geriatric care competencies of nurses in hospitals and to identify the factors associated with these competencies. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Nurses who were employed and directly caring for patients aged 65 years and older in any of the adult wards of a medical center located in southern Taiwan were recruited as participants. A structured questionnaire was developed based on a review of the relevant literature and validated using expert consensus. This questionnaire included a demographic datasheet, knowledge of geriatric care scale, attitude of geriatric care scale, self-evaluation of geriatric care competency, and geriatric care competency test. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the geriatric care competencies of the participants and related factors. Results: One hundred seventy nurses were enrolled as participants. The average self-evaluation score for geriatric care competency was 67.74 (SD = 0.84). However, the average percentage of correct answers given on the geriatric care competency test was much lower (17.6%). The self-evaluation score was found to be significantly associated with job satisfaction and having received continuing education in geriatric care. In addition, age was shown to significantly affect the percentage of correct answers given on the geriatric care competency test. Conclusions/Implications for Practice: A significant gap was found between the self-perceived and actual competencies of nurses in terms of providing geriatric care. Appropriate policies are necessary to improve the geriatric care competencies of nurses working in hospitals and to oversee the implementation of effective educational methods in Taiwan. Fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) is often applied to construct fluorescent probes for acquiring high selectivity and sensitivity. According to the FRET theory, a homodimer composed of two identical fluorophores with a small Stokes shift has only weak fluorescence due to homo-FRET between fluorophores, and the fluorescence could be recovered after the destruction of the homodimer. In this study, we designed and synthesized a homodimer fluorescent probe, namely 1,3,5,7-tetramethyl-8-(4′-phenylthiophenol)-boron difluoride-dipyrrole methane dimer (D-TMSPB), based on this turn-on strategy. In D-TMSPB, the disulfide moiety was selected as the response moiety of biothiols, and BODIPY fluorophore was chosen as both donor and acceptor in FRET due to the ultra-small Stokes shifts and obvious overlap of its excitation/emission peak. D-TMSPB exhibited only weak fluorescence. After selective reaction with biothiols, FRET was destroyed and the derivative exhibited strong fluorescence at 514 nm with the limit of detection of about 0.15 μM for GSH. Notably, the derivative of biothiols shows remarkable fluorescence only in acidic conditions, which accords with the internal environment of lysosome. Thus, D-TMSPB was applied to image the biothiols of lysosome in living cells. The turn-on fluorescence of D-TMSPB indicated that homo-FRET is a practical strategy to design turn-on fluorescent probes, particularly for the sensing mechanism based on leaving groups. Background: Tourette syndrome (TS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder defined by the continual presence of primary motor and vocal tics. Grey matter abnormalities have been identified in numerous studies of TS, but conflicting results have been reported. This study was an unbiased statistical meta-analysis of published neuroimaging studies of TS structures. Methods: A voxel quantitative meta-analysis technique called activation likelihood estimation (ALE) was used. The meta-analysis included six neuroimaging studies involving 247 TS patients and 236 healthy controls. A statistical threshold of p < 0.05 was established based on the false discovery rate and a cluster extent threshold of 50 voxels. Results: We found that grey matter volumes were significantly increased in the bilateral thalamus, right hypothalamus, right precentral gyrus, left postcentral gyrus, left inferior parietal lobule, right lentiform nucleus, and left insula of TS patients compared to those of healthy controls. In contrast, grey matter volumes were significantly decreased in the bilateral postcentral gyrus, bilateral anterior cingulate, bilateral insula, left posterior cingulate and left postcentral gyrus of TS patients compared to those of healthy controls. Conclusions: Our present meta-analysis primarily revealed significant increases in grey matter volumes in the thalamus and lentiform nucleus, and decreased grey matter volumes in the anterior cingulate gyrus, of TS patients compared to those in healthy controls. Most of these identified regions are associated with cortico-striato-thalamocortical circuits. Further studies with larger sample sizes are needed to confirm these changes in grey matter volumes in TS patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We present the design and fabrication of a novel dual-function high contrast gratings that can be used as a polarization-selective beam splitter with transverse magnetic polarization, which performs two independent functions, i.e., reflection focusing and power equalization at a wavelength of 1550 nm. This dual-function grating profile is optimized by the rigorous coupled-wave analysis and the finite-element method. Simple analytical expressions of phase and modal guideline for the beam splitter design are given. The beam splitter based on the grating structure is experimentally studied at a distance of 160 μm from the reflection plane, the results are consistent with the theoretical results basically.
