- Abstract
In literature there are a lot of theoretical studies concerning alcoholic families, however there is a scarcity of empirical research. The aim of this study was to present what kind of image of the family is typical for men addicted to alcohol, their wives and adult children of alcoholics. In an attempt to find the answer to the problem posed in the study 21 married couples were examined where husbands were undergoing treatment at the Alcohol Addiction Therapy Ward as well as 30 adult children of alcoholics who attended ACoA meetings. In the study the Family Profile by Z. Gaś was used. The results obtained allowed us to formulate the following conclusions: 1. The men addicted to alcohol and their wives have an idealised image of the family. 2. There is a big similarity in the perception of the family by husbands and wives. 3. The perception of the family by the adult children of alcoholics differs significantly from the perception of the family by the men addicted to alcohol and their wives. The ACoAs have a negative image of their families. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
