The results of the exams that are carried out in the clinical laboratory should constitute an essential part in the evaluation of people included in clinical trials for the introduction of new medications. In this article the most important aspects of work in the laboratory are described, during the development of a trial where new technologies are used. Clinical trials not only improve health indicators of the population, but also, demand the best diagnosis standards and evaluation of the treatment, through new technologies, where clinical laboratory is included. The internal control of quality in the clinical laboratory is a specialized activity that monitors the quality of the processes and results at the same time that it allows to accept or to reject the analytic runs on the different determinations. To such effects, the elements of a practical guide included in a software are presented, designed with the objective of perfecting the internal control of the quality in these laboratories, where the principles and key concepts of the topic, procedures and their sequence, requirements of quality, control rules, statistical calculations, the interpretation of the results are defined, as well as some of the novel and necessary indicators to assure the quality. Introduction: The maintenance of an appropriate nutritional state is fundamental in people with respiratory diseases, since malnutrition can cause negative effects in the respiratory system and affect its musculature, the lung parenchyma, as well as the immune system. Objective: To determine the prediction charge of the nutritional state when admitted to the institution and the artificial mechanical ventilation on the unfavorable clinical course of patients with acute chronic obstructive lung disease. Methods: A descriptive, applied and explanatory study was carried out on 39 patients with acute chronic obstructive lung disease, who were admitted to the Intensive and Intermediate Care Service of Saturnino Lora Torres Teaching Clinical-Surgical Provincial Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, from October, 2022 to November, 2023. Results: There was a prevalence of the 65 and over age group (64.1 %); on his arrival at the service, 24.1 % of the patients presented altered albumin, 56,4 % was undernourished and invasive mechanical artificial ventilation prevailed (53.8 %). The deficiency malnutrition on admission constituted a significant causal factor (p = 0.029) with unfavorable clinical course in those affected and exposed to this risk [OR = 6.22; I.C 95%: 1.21; 32.02]. Conclusions: This study indicated that malnutrition on admission of the patients with acute chronic obstructive lung disease constitutes a prediction factor of unfavorable clinical course. A descriptive study of 205 users of the Central Laboratory of "Saturnino Lora Torres" Teaching Clinical Surgical Provincial Hospital in Santiago de Cuba was carried out from December, 2013 to the same period in 2014, in order to determine the reference levels of LDL cholesterol for the enzymatic method and identify estimates variations of analito according to 2 methodologies. Anderson Darling's parametric statistical test was applied. Male sex, young adult and the patients with normal weight prevailed. The reference values were established for LDL cholesterol by direct method from 1.37 to 4.89 mmol/L for the general population. A Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.82 was obtained between the direct method and the Friedewald formula. The obtained values were not contained in the established clinical range for this analito and although both methodologies were associated, such values were markedly inferior for the calculated method. An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study of 51 patients with valve prosthesis was carried out. They were admitted to the Cardiology Center of "Saturnino Lora Torres" Teaching Clinical Surgical Provincial Hospital due to valve thrombosis or bleeding episodes, from January, 2012 to December, 2014, with the purpose of estimating the variations in the International Standard Ratio values and their association with these events. The chi-square test was carried out. Those patients affected with valve thrombosis (60.4%) and International Standard Ratio under 2.5 were predominant; while the latter in bleedings was over 3.5. The patients with more than one associated risk factor presented higher quantity of thrombosis episodes; events that had less incidence when warfarin and aspirin were included in the treatment.
