Previous research has found that more embodied insults (e.g. numbskull) are identified faster and more accurately than less embodied insults (e.g. idiot). The linguistic processing of embodied compliments has not been well explored. In the present study, participants completed two tasks where they identified insults and compliments, respectively. Half of the stimuli were more embodied than the other half. We examined the late positive potential (LPP) component of event-related potentials in early (400-500 ms), middle (500-600 ms), and late (600-700 ms) time windows. Increased embodiment resulted in improved response accuracy to compliments in both tasks, whereas it only improved accuracy for insults in the compliment detection task. More embodied stimuli elicited a larger LPP than less embodied stimuli in the early time window. Insults generated a larger LPP in the late time window in the insult task; compliments generated a larger LPP in the early window in the compliment task. These results indicate that electrophysiological correlates of emotional language perception are sensitive to both top-down and bottom-up processes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Attachment security is known to have various positive outcomes. Recent evidence, however, suggests that security, especially high levels of it, may also have negative outcomes. Three studies tested this possibility. Studies 1 and 2 showed a linear rather than curvilinear trend between security and positive outcomes, suggesting that even at high levels security correlates with positive outcomes. Study 3, which focused on secure behaviors, found that exhibiting high levels of secure behaviors was related to a higher frequency of negative outcomes. However, dispositional attachment security was negatively correlated with negative outcomes, and engaging in secure behaviors strengthened this correlation. These findings suggest that secure behaviors rather than perceptions associated with attachment security (i.e., working models) may be related with negative outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Interpersonal food behaviors, such as food sharing and food offering, are associated with closeness between people and thought to facilitate the formation and strengthening of social bonds. Despite the importance of food and food-related behavior in general and for social bonding specifically, there is relatively little research about the psychological underpinnings of food-related behavior within relationship science. To fill this gap, we conducted three studies focusing on food behaviors and attachment style. In Study 1, we found attachment avoidance to be negatively associated with engagement in food sharing behaviors, and with a lower likelihood of dating a potential partner due to the partner's food preferences. In Study 2, we found that enhancing attachment security increased the tendency to offer one's food to a fellow participant. In Study 3, we found that the tendency to accept food from a fellow participant was positively associated with attachment anxiety, but security priming did not affect this tendency.
