Femoral hernias account for 3%-4% of all hernias.2 Due to the femoral canal's relatively small space and mostly rigid borders, these hernias are at higher risk of strangulation (approximately 15%-20%).3 De Garengeot's hernia is thought to account for <1% of all femoral hernias. Of 34 documented cases of De Garengeot's hernia since 2000, only one has occurred on the left.5 While there are no clear guidelines about hernia repair with/without mesh in these cases, the general rationale is to avoid mesh repair in the presence of an acutely inflamed appendix.
