Abstract: Triangular and hexagonal CdS nanoplates, with average size about 100 nm and average thickness range from 10 to 30 nm, have been synthesized in the presence of poly (acrylic acid) (PAA) assisted hydrothermal process at 180 °C. The structural characteristics, morphology, and optical properties of the as-prepared CdS products were investigated. UV–vis spectroscopy measurement reveals that the products show a strong quantum size effect. Based on the experiment results, the possible formation mechanism of CdS nanoplates has been proposed. Abstract: Shape-controlled synthesis of CuS nanorods, nanoflakes, and flowerlike structures has been achieved simply in the presence of a nonionic surfactant polyethylene glycol (PEG20000) by adjusting hydrothermal temperature. The as-synthesized CuS nanocrystals were investigated by various techniques of XRD, TEM, SEM, and UV–vis spectra. The electron diffraction pattern indicated that the CuS nanoflakes were single crystals. In the process, the temperature and the surfactant PEG20000 were found to play important roles in determining the morphology of CuS nanocrystals. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: By employing sodium dodecyl sulfate as the templating agent, mesoporous lanthanum oxide/surfactant complexes of hexagonal and lamellar phases were synthesized within the micellar solution of various pH values. The structures of the resulting products were studied by XRD, HRTEM, SEM and TG/DTA. The XRD patterns and HRTEM micrographs showed that the interlayer distance of the typical lamellar structure products was ranging from 3.5 to 4.0 nm and the unit cell parameter of the produced ordered hexagonal structures was about 4.4 nm. Abstract: Amorphous SiO2, anatase TiO2 and cassiterite SnO2 hollow spheres have been successfully prepared using hydrophilic colloidal carbon spheres as template in conjunction with the sol–gel method. The hollow spherical structures could be confirmed by TEM and SEM. The void sizes of these hollow spheres were about 60% smaller than the diameters of the template. The BET surface areas of hollow spheres were about 183.8, 32.5, and 74.3 m2/g, respectively. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
