Remembering when emotional experiences occurred can be adaptive, yet there is no consensus on how emotion influences temporal aspects of memory. Temporal memory, a type of associative memory, refers to the capacity to encode, store, and retrieve information about the sequence and timing of events. This Special Issue presents evidence on how emotion affects three aspects of temporal memory: temporal-order, temporal source, and event segmentation. The contributions suggest that emotion often increases temporal-order memory, a result that is harder to reconcile with some dominant emotional memory theories, including the Object-Based Framework, the Dual Representation Account or other trade-off models, but may fit with Arousal-Biased Competition theory. The contributions also suggest that emotion can act as a boundary between events, although only under some experimental set-ups. Findings regarding its effect on temporal source memory were less clear. We discuss the diversity of findings in light of theories of emotional associative memory and methodological factors, such as the direction of the shift in emotional experience and discrepancies between temporal-order and temporal distance measures as indices of event boundaries. This study investigates the fossil horse remains from the archaeo-palaeontological layer of the Middle Pleistocene locality of Fontana Ranuccio (Central Italy) (400 ka; MIS 11), which has been long considered a reference site for the Italian biochronology from which the Fontana Ranuccio Faunal Unit has been established in the 1990s. Despite the archaeo-palaeontological importance of this locality, the material belonging to equids has never been formally described. The Fontana Ranuccio sample consists of 28 remains, in particular 25 isolated premolars and molars at different wear stages, an incomplete scapula, a complete talus and a proximal portion of a third metatarsus which belong to a large caballine horse, historically ascribed to Equus cf. E. mosbachensis. The large size and the persistence of some primitive – stenonoid sensu lato – characters in the Fontana Ranuccio teeth, together with clear advanced (caballine) morphological traits support their attribution to the polymorph group of Equus mosbachensis. The results of the revision of the Fontana Ranuccio material and the comparison with data from selected European localities are consistent with the hypothesis that the morphological and dimensional differences observed in Middle Pleistocene horses depend on the presence of ecomorphotypes and the intrinsic intra-population variability that characterises most equid species. Military personnel routinely complete stressful training exercises in harsh environmental conditions to prepare for intense operational demands. Purpose: This study determined the effect of environmental conditions on salivary hormone profiles in Marines during a mountain warfare training exercise (MTX). Methods: Two cohorts of Marines (age 22 ± 4, height 174 ± 7 cm, body mass 79.2 ± 11.5 kg) completed an MTX (elevation 2100 to 3500 m) in the Fall (n = 63, temperature 11 ± 2 °C) and Winter (n = 64, temperature −5 ± 4 °C). Saliva samples were provided before (PRE), during (MID), and after (POST) the MTX, and were assayed for α-amylase, cortisol, DHEA, testosterone, and osteocalcin. Results: Linear mixed models were used to determine significant interactions (time × season) and found differences in DHEA, testosterone, and osteocalcin. Testosterone and DHEA were lower at MID compared to PRE and POST during the Fall MTX. Testosterone was higher at MID compared to PRE and POST during the Winter MTX, while DHEA remained stable. Osteocalcin was higher in Fall participants compared to Winter but demonstrated a similar trend to increase at MID and decrease at POST in both groups. Cortisol was higher during the Winter MTX compared to the Fall. Conclusions: These findings highlight the differential physiological stress responses in varying seasonal conditions, suggesting the need for tailored training strategies to enhance military readiness and prevent hormonal dysregulation. The aim of this study was to investigate the genomic diversity of the Nero d'Aspromonte (NA) pig population. NA is a subpopulation derived from the Apulo Calabrese (AC) breed that has been reared in total isolation within the Polsi area of Aspromonte, Calabria, Italy. NA is traditionally recognised and used by local farmers for the production of typical products. The growing interest in this subpopulation has led local farmers to create a cooperative to promote NA pig meat and help preserve the cultural heritage associated with this local population. A total of 40 NA pigs were included in our study and genotyped with the Illumina GGP Porcine array. Admixture, TreeMix, and run of homozygosity (ROH) analyses were performed to investigate genetic diversity within the NA subpopulation and its relationship with the AC breed and other Italian pig breeds. The NA population clearly originated from the AC breed. The lower inbreeding and average ROH size in NA compared to AC may indicate that NA differentiated from the original AC genetic pool with the contribution of admixture from other genetic backgrounds in addition to the effects of genetic isolation and genetic drift. The analysis of the genetic diversity of the NA subpopulation showcases the utility of genomic analyses to reconstruct the genetic history of local populations. A specific conservation program for this genetic resource may further support the sustainable development of local pig production systems based on traditional farming practices as a part of agricultural cultural heritage. HIGHLIGHTS: We genetically characterised the Nero d'Aspromonte pig population using genomic data. Genomic characteristics of this population were compared with nine other Italian pig breeds. Chronic stress is associated with a higher risk for carcinogenesis as well as age-related diseases and immune dysfunction. There is evidence showing that psychological stress can contribute to premature immunosenescence. Therefore, the question arose whether chronic exposure to catecholamine could drive immune cells into senescence. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were isolated from whole blood. After repeated ex vivo treatment with isoproterenol, an epinephrine analog, well-established senescence biomarkers were assessed. We found (i) DNA double-strand break induction, (ii) telomere shortening, (iii) failure to proliferate, (iv) higher senescence-associated β-galactosidase activity, (v) decreases in caspases 3 and 7 activity, and (vi) strong upregulation of the proteoglycan versican accompanied by increased cellular adhesion suggesting the induction of a senescence-like phenotype. These results emphasize the complexity of the effect of isoproterenol on multiple cellular processes and provide insights into the molecular mechanisms of stress leading to immunosenescence. This work proposes µGUIDE: a general Bayesian framework to estimate posterior distributions of tissue microstructure parameters from any given biophysical model or signal representation, with exemplar demonstration in diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. Harnessing a new deep learning architecture for automatic signal feature selection combined with simulation-based inference and efficient sampling of the posterior distributions, µGUIDE bypasses the high computational and time cost of conventional Bayesian approaches and does not rely on acquisition constraints to define model-specific summary statistics. Introduction Winter warfare training (WWT) is a critical component of military training that trains warfighters to operate effectively in extreme environments impacted by snow and mountainous terrain. These environmental factors can exacerbate the disruption to the hormone milieu associated with operating in multi-stressor settings. To date, there is limited research on the physiological responses and adaptations that occur in elite military populations training in arduous environments. The purpose of this study was to quantify hormone responses and adaptations in operators throughout WWT. Materials and Methods Participants engaged in baseline laboratory metrics at their home station, Fort Carson, located in Colorado (CO) prior to WWT, for one week in Montana (MT) and one week in Alaska (AK). WWT periods were separated by approximately one month. Blood was collected upon wake at baseline (CO) and on the first and last day of WWT at each location (MT and AK). Plasma was analyzed for stress, metabolic, and growth-related hormones via enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA). Sleep quality was assessed via the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) at baseline (CO) and on the first day of training in MT and AK. Cognitive function was evaluated using the Defense Automated Neurobehavioral Assessment (DANA) at baseline (CO) and on the first and last day of WWT in both MT and AK. Results Fourteen US Army operators in 10th Special Forces Group (SFG) Operational Detachment participated in winter warfare training (WWT; age: 31.5 years; 95%CI[28.1, 34.3]; height: 180.6 cm; 95%CI[177.3, 183.4]; weight: 87.4 kg.; 95%CI[80.6, 97.7]; body fat: 18.9%; 95%CI[13.7, 23.1]; male: n=13; female: n=1). Plasma adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) levels increased from baseline (19.9 pg/mL; 95%CI[8.6, 24.2])  to pre-WWT (26.9 pg/mL; 95%CI [16.2, 37]; p=0.004), decreased from pre-  (26.9 pg/mL; 95%CI [16.2, 37]) to post-WWT in MT (22.3 pg/mL; 95% CI [8, 23.7]; p=0.004;), and increased from pre-  (25 pg/mL; 95%CI[ 28.4) to post-WWT (36.6 pg/mL; 95%CI [17.9, 48.9]) in AK (p=0.005). Plasma cortisol levels decreased from pre- (174 ng/mL; 95%CI[106.2, 233.6])  to post-WWT (94.5 ng/mL; 95%CI[54.8, 101.7]) in MT (p=0.001) and, conversely, increased from pre- (123.1 ng/mL; 95%CI[97.5, 143.9]) to post-WWT  (162.8 ng/mL; 95%CI[128, 216.7]) in AK (p<0.001). Alterations in growth-related hormones (insulin-like growth factor 1 [IGF-1], insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 [IGFBP-3], and sex hormone binding globulin [SHBG]) were observed throughout WWT (p<0.05). The Total Testosterone / Cortisol ratio (TT / CORT; molar ratio) was lower pre-WWT in MT (0.04; 95%CI[0.01,0.04) compared to baseline in CO (0.07; 95%CI[0.04, 0.07]; p=0.042). Triiodothyronine (T3) levels increased from pre-  (101.7 ng/dL; 95%CI[93.7, 110.4]) to post-WWT  (117.8 ng/dL; 95%CI[105.1, 129.4]) in MT (p=0.042). No differences in sleep quality were reported between locations (CO, MT, and AK). Alterations in cognitive function were exhibited between locations and during WWT in both MT and AK (p<0.05). Conclusions Over the course of WWT, elite operators experienced alterations in stress, metabolic, and growth-related hormones, as well as cognitive performance. The increase in stress hormones (i.e. ACTH and cortisol) and reduction in cognitive performance following training in AK are suggestive of heightened physiological strain, despite similarities in physical workload, self-reported sleep quality, and access to nutrition. The variation in hormone levels documented between MT and AK may stem from differences in environmental factors, such as lower temperatures and harsh terrain. Spelling is linked to the correct writing of words, with the understanding that a good command of spelling improves writing in general. The aim of this study is to design and evaluate the impact of an intervention program to improve spelling in Spanish-speaking schoolchildren. Based on a sample of 51 students from third to sixth grade of elementary school with poor performance in spelling, distributed into control and experimental groups, an intervention program was implemented with words selected from the study of frequency, orthographic particularity, syllabic composition, and length. The results indicate significant improvements in phonological and orthographic knowledge of the words that were worked on during the intervention by the experimental group, compared to the control group, at the end of the intervention and three months after it. It is again confirmed that spelling in Spanish is sensitive to systematic and programmed instruction based on the specific teaching of the orthographic rules, as well as to the repeated work on inconsistent words that help fixing the orthographic particularities, considering their semantic knowledge. We evaluated the activity of piperacillin in relation to increasing tazobactam concentration against ESBL-producing Enterobacterales collected from patients with bacteraemia. Increasing tazobactam concentration (4, 12 or 24 mg/L) exerted a reduction of piperacillin MICs under the clinical breakpoint in a concentration-dependent manner (0%, 60% and 90% of clinical isolates). Also, activity of piperacillin/tazobactam based at higher achievable serum concentrations (123/14 mg/L) is needed to reduce the bacterial growth in 92% of ESBL-producers. Changes in the piperacillin MIC in relation to increasing tazobactam suggest that realtime TDM could be used for driven antimicrobial therapy with piperacillin/tazobactam in BSI due to ESBL strains. Although a lot of attention in the field of episodic memory focuses on the mnemonic content of narratives, memory narratives are not just for conveying the past. Instead, narratives provide a vehicle for meaning-making, social connection, and other complex facets of human cognition and thinking. We investigated the activity of cefiderocol/β-lactamase inhibitor combinations against clinical strains with different susceptibility profiles to cefiderocol to explore the potentiality of antibiotic combinations as a strategy to contain the major public health problem of multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens. Specifically, we evaluated the synergistic activity of cefiderocol with avibactam, sulbactam, or tazobactam on three of the most "Critical Priority" group of MDR bacteria (carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter baumannii). Clinical isolates were genomically characterized by Illumina iSeq 100. The synergy test was conducted with time-kill curve assays. Specifically, cefiderocol/avibactam, /sulbactam, or /tazobactam combinations were analyzed. Synergism was assigned if bacterial grow reduction reached 2 log10 CFU/mL. We reported the high antimicrobial activity of the cefiderocol/sulbactam combination against carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales, P. aeruginosa, and A. baumannii; of the cefiderocol/avibactam combination against carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales; and of the cefiderocol/tazobactam combination against carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales and P. aeruginosa. Our results demonstrate that all β-lactamase inhibitors (BLIs) tested are able to enhance cefiderocol antimicrobial activity, also against cefiderocol-resistant isolates. The cefiderocol/sulbactam combination emerges as the most promising combination, proving to highly enhance cefiderocol activity in all the analyzed carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative isolates, whereas the Cefiderocol/tazobactam combination resulted in being active only against carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales and P. aeruginosa, and cefiderocol/avibactam was only active against carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales. The objective of our study was to evaluate the effect of endophyte-infected tall fescue (E+) seeds intake on liver tissue transcriptome in growing Angus × Simmental steers and heifers through RNA-seq analysis. Normal weaned calves (~8 months old) received either endophyte-free tall fescue (E-; n = 3) or infected tall fescue (E+; n = 6) seeds for a 30-d period. The diet offered was ad libitum bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) hay combined with a nutritional supplement of 1.61 kg (DM basis) of E+ or E- tall fescue seeds, and 1.61 kg (DM basis) of energy/protein supplement pellets for a 30-d period. Dietary E+ tall fescue seeds were included in a rate of 20 μg of ergovaline/kg BW/day. Liver tissue was individually obtained through biopsy at d 30. After preparation and processing of the liver samples for RNA sequencing, we detected that several metabolic pathways were activated (i.e., upregulated) by the consumption of E+ tall fescue. Among them, oxidative phosphorylation, ribosome biogenesis, protein processing in endoplasmic reticulum and apoptosis, suggesting an active mechanism to cope against impairment in normal liver function. Interestingly, hepatic protein synthesis might increase due to E+ consumption. In addition, there was upregulation of "thermogenesis" KEGG pathway, showing a possible increase in energy expenditure in liver tissue due to consumption of E+ diet. From close friends to people on a first date, imagining a shared future appears fundamental to relationships. Yet, no previous research has conceptualized the act of imagination as a socially constructed process that affects how connected we feel to others. The present studies provide a framework for investigating imagination as a collaborative process in which individuals cocreate shared representations of hypothetical events--what we call collaborative imagination. Across two preregistered studies (N = 244), we provide evidence that collaborative imagination of a shared future fosters social connection in novel dyads--beyond imagining a shared future individually or shared experience in general. Subjective ratings and natural language processing of participants' imagined narratives illuminate the representational features of imagined events shaped by collaborative imagination. Together, the present findings have the potential to shift how we view the structure and function of imagination with implications for better understanding interpersonal relationships and collective cognition. Candida auris is a concerning pathogen in health care due to its ability to spread in medical settings. In this study, we characterized the genome of three C. auris clinical isolates collected in the Emilia-Romagna region of Northeastern Italy from January 2020 to May 2021. Whole-genome sequencing was performed using Illumina iSeq 100 and Oxford Nanopore MinION systems. Genomes were assembled with Flye. Phylogenetic analysis was carried out with RaxML. The ERG11, TAC1b, and FKS1 genes were examined for known substitutions associated with resistance to azoles and caspofungin using Diamond. All three C. auris isolates belonged to clade I (South Asian lineage) and showed high minimum inhibitory concentrations for fluconazole. Two of the three isolates were closely related to the first Italian index case of C. auris occurred in the 2019 and carried similar mutations associated to azole resistance. The third isolate showed a greater phylogenetic distance from these strains and had a different genetic determinant not previously seen in Italy. Our data suggest that two C. auris clinical isolates may have been epidemiologically related to the first outbreak previously observed in Italy, while the remaining isolate may have originated from a different source. This article discusses the literary representation of religious leadership in the Siyar al-bīʿa al-muqaddasa , also known as "History of the Patriarchs of Alexandria". It suggests reading accounts on early Muslim rule within the frameworks of Islamicate literature from the Abbasid and the Fatimid periods, when the collection was created, also considering successive layers of redaction. This approach contrasts with a more conventional way of reading such texts as historical sources on Christian-Muslim relations and as witnesses of the early Islamic period. By comparing stories of patriarchs and rulers with stories about qadis and rulers, the article highlights the importance of framing early Islamicate Christian sources in relation to a broader cultural context and historical developments, without exaggerating their early dating. One of the most common distinctions in long-term memory is that between semantic (i.e., general world knowledge) and episodic (i.e., recollection of contextually specific events from one's past). However, emerging cognitive neuroscience data suggest a surprisingly large overlap between the neural correlates of semantic and episodic memory. Moreover, personal semantic memories (i.e., knowledge about the self and one's life) have been studied little and do not easily fit into the standard semantic-episodic dichotomy. Here, we used fMRI to record brain activity while 48 participants verified statements concerning general facts, autobiographical facts, repeated events, and unique events. In multivariate analysis, all four types of memory involved activity within a common network bilaterally (e.g., frontal pole, paracingulate gyrus, medial frontal cortex, middle/superior temporal gyrus, precuneus, posterior cingulate, angular gyrus) and some areas of the medial temporal lobe. Yet the four memory types differentially engaged this network, increasing in activity from general to autobiographical facts, from autobiographical facts to repeated events, and from repeated to unique events. Our data are compatible with a component process model, in which declarative memory types rely on different weightings of the same elementary processes, such as perceptual imagery, spatial features, and self-reflection. Supported gold nanoparticles have proven to be highly effective catalysts for the base-free oxidation of furfural, a compound derived from biomass. Their small size enables a high surface-area-to-volume ratio, providing abundant active sites for the reaction to take place. These gold nanoparticles serve as catalysts by providing surfaces for furfural molecules to adsorb onto and facilitating electron transfer between the substrate and the oxidizing agent. The role of the support in this reaction has been widely studied, and gold–support interactions have been found to be beneficial. However, the exact mechanism of furfural oxidation under base-free conditions remains an active area of research and is not yet fully understood. In this review, we delve into the essential factors that influence the selectivity of furfural oxidation. We present an optimization process that highlights the significant role of machine learning in identifying the best catalyst for this reaction. The principal objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive review of research conducted over the past five years concerning the catalytic oxidation of furfural under base-free conditions. By conducting tree decision making on experimental data from recent articles, a total of 93 gold-based catalysts are compared. The relative variable importance chart analysis reveals that the support preparation method and the pH of the solution are the most crucial factors determining the yield of furoic acid in this oxidation process. Soma and neurite density image (SANDI) is an advanced diffusion magnetic resonance imaging biophysical signal model devised to probe in vivo microstructural information in the gray matter (GM). This model requires acquisitions that include b values that are at least six times higher than those used in clinical practice. Such high b values are required to disentangle the signal contribution of water diffusing in soma from that diffusing in neurites and extracellular space, while keeping the diffusion time as short as possible to minimize potential bias due to water exchange. These requirements have limited the use of SANDI only to preclinical or cutting‐edge human scanners. Here, we investigate the potential impact of neglecting water exchange in the SANDI model and present a 10‐min acquisition protocol that enables to characterize both GM and white matter (WM) on 3 T scanners. We implemented analytical simulations to (i) evaluate the stability of the fitting of SANDI parameters when diminishing the number of shells; (ii) estimate the bias due to potential exchange between neurites and extracellular space in such reduced acquisition scheme, comparing it with the bias due to experimental noise. Then, we demonstrated the feasibility and assessed the repeatability and reproducibility of our approach by computing microstructural metrics of SANDI with AMICO toolbox and other state‐of‐the‐art models on five healthy subjects. Finally, we applied our protocol to five multiple sclerosis patients. Results suggest that SANDI is a practical method to characterize WM and GM tissues in vivo on performant clinical scanners. The special issue of Medieval Encounters focuses on the study of kinship in premodern Islamicate societies. The articles explore the representation and expression of kinship ties in literary and documentary texts, highlighting the importance of kinship in Islamicate societies. Recent scholarship has expanded the definition of kinship to include women's roles and other underrepresented groups. The authors discuss how kinship was used rhetorically and strategically in different texts, and emphasize the need for a comparative and interdisciplinary approach to research. Aim: To evaluate the hard and soft tissues healing around teeth prepared with the biologically oriented preparation technique (BOPT) versus the chamfer technique versus non‐prepared teeth. Materials and Methods: Thirty‐two teeth in eight beagle dogs were randomly prepared with the BOPT (test = 16) or chamfer (control = 16) techniques and covered with polymethylmethacrylate crowns as provisional restorations. Sixteen negative controls (non‐prepared teeth) were also used for comparison. Histological description and histomorphometrical measurements of the periodontal tissues were collected at 4 and 12 weeks in 7 out of 8 dogs, including the soft tissue height and thickness, and the horizontal and vertical bone dimensions. Results: When compared with negative controls, test and control preparation techniques exhibited a more apical location of the free gingival margin with respect to the cement‐enamel junction (∆ = 1.1 mm for both groups at 4 weeks (p <.05), 0.99 mm for the test group (p =.043) and 0.20 mm for control group (p = 1.000) at 12 weeks). There were no significant differences between test and control groups with respect to vertical and horizontal histometric measurements. Conclusions: The BOPT and chamfer tooth preparation protocols induced similar qualitative and quantitative changes in the healing of the supra‐crestal soft tissue complex, when compared with non‐prepared teeth. The objective of our study was to assess the effect of rumen-protected niacin supplementation on the transcriptome of liver tissue in growing Angus × Simmental steers and heifers through RNA-seq analysis. Consequently, we wanted to assess the known role of niacin in the physiological processes of vasodilation, detoxification, and immune function in beef hepatic tissue. Normal weaned calves (~8 months old) were provided either a control diet or a diet supplemented with rumen-protected niacin (6 g/hd/d) for a 30-day period, followed by a liver biopsy. We observed a significant list of changes at the transcriptome level due to rumen-protected niacin supplementation. Several metabolic pathways revealed potential positive effects to the animal's liver metabolism due to administration of rumen-protected niacin; for example, a decrease in lipolysis, apoptosis, inflammatory responses, atherosclerosis, oxidative stress, fibrosis, and vasodilation-related pathways. Therefore, results from our study showed that the liver transcriptional machinery switched several metabolic pathways to a condition that could potentially benefit the health status of animals supplemented with rumen-protected niacin. In a complex world, we are constantly faced with environmental stimuli that shape our moment‐to‐moment experiences. But just as rich and complex as the external world is the internal milieu—our imagination. Imagination offers a powerful vehicle for playing out hypothetical experiences in the mind's eye. It allows us to mentally time travel to behold what the future might bring, including our greatest desires or fears. Indeed, imagined experiences tend to be emotion‐laden. How and why are humans capable of this remarkable feat? Based on psychological findings, we highlight the importance of imagination for emotional aspects of cognition and behavior, namely in the generation and regulation of emotions. Based on recent cognitive neuroscience work, we identify putative neural networks that are most critical for emotional imagination, with a major focus on the default mode network. Finally, we briefly highlight the possible functional implications of individual differences in imagination. Overall, we hope to address why humans have the capacity to simulate hypothetical emotional experiences and how this ability can be harnessed in adaptive (and sometimes maladaptive) ways. The US often portrays human rights to be Western values America cherishes. But what happens when American corporations abuse human rights transnationally? While a decade ago, the US could be considered to be one of the most advanced jurisdictions in terms of business and human rights litigation, now it is no longer the case. The US Judicial, Legislative and Executive branches all appear to be behind a number of other countries in terms of ensuring that domestic corporations respect human rights and the environment transnationally. In the past decade, US courts have substantially limited the possibility of suing corporations for transnational torts; US lawmakers have failed to adopt a mandatory due diligence law of general application requiring US multinationals to oversee and prevent human rights and environmental abuses in their supply chains; and the US Government, under three separate administrations (the Obama, Trump and Biden) have consistently opposed a UN treaty initiative for the Elaboration of an international legally binding instrument on transnational corporations and other business enterprises with respect to human rights. The paper proposes a method to valorize abandoned mines whose traces were lost in the territory and in the collective memory. We selected two case studies in the Umbria region (central Italy) that were used as examples. The evidence of the presence of lignite mines on the Upper Tiber River Valley (northern Umbria) has been completely erased, and since they were located in rural areas, they represent an interesting challenge regarding recovering the memory of the places and proposing a no-longer-existent site as a geosite. The recovery and valorization of historical documents of the two lignite mines (Caiperino–Terranera and Carsuga) and their conversion into a digital format was carried out before constructing a geolocalized database in a GIS environment. This framework is the starting point for a promising dissemination process via a digital media app, using multimedia contents as video, 3D models and the principles of augmented reality (AR) to enhance the touristic or didactic experience and promote the cultural heritage of the territory by keeping the memory of 'ghost places'. Background: Quantitative imaging such as Diffusion‐Weighted MRI (DW‐MRI) can be exploited to non‐invasively derive patient‐specific tumor microstructure information for tumor characterization and local recurrence risk prediction in radiotherapy. Purpose: To characterize tumor microstructure according to proliferative capacity and predict local recurrence through microstructural markers derived from pre‐treatment conventional DW‐MRI, in skull‐base chordoma (SBC) patients treated with proton (PT) and carbon ion (CIRT) radiotherapy. Methods: Forty‐eight patients affected by SBC, who underwent conventional DW‐MRI before treatment and were enrolled for CIRT (n = 25) or PT (n = 23), were retrospectively selected. Clinically verified local recurrence information (LR) and histological information (Ki‐67, proliferation index) were collected. Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps were calculated from pre‐treatment DW‐MRI and, from these, a set of microstructural parameters (cellular radius R, volume fraction vf, diffusion D) were derived by applying a fine‐tuning procedure to a framework employing Monte Carlo simulations on synthetic cell substrates. In addition, apparent cellularity (ρapp) was estimated from vf and R for an easier clinical interpretation. Histogram‐based metrics (mean, median, variance, entropy) from estimated parameters were considered to investigate differences (Mann‐Whitney U‐test, α = 0.05) in estimated tumor microstructure in SBCs characterized by low or high cell proliferation (Ki‐67). Recurrence‐free survival analyses were also performed to assess the ability of the microstructural parameters to stratify patients according to the risk of local recurrence (Kaplan‐Meier curves, log‐rank test α = 0.05). Results: Refined microstructural markers revealed optimal capabilities in discriminating patients according to cell proliferation, achieving best results with mean values (p‐values were 0.0383, 0.0284, 0.0284, 0.0468, and 0.0088 for ADC, R, vf, D, and ρapp, respectively). Recurrence‐free survival analyses showed significant differences between populations at high and low risk of local recurrence as stratified by entropy values of estimated microstructural parameters (p = 0.0110). As part of the hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis, the hypothalamus exerts pivotal influence on metabolic and endocrine homeostasis. With age, these processes are subject to considerable change, resulting in increased prevalence of physical disability and cardiac disorders. Yet, research on the aging human hypothalamus is lacking. To assess detailed hypothalamic microstructure in middle adulthood, 39 healthy participants (35–65 years) underwent comprehensive structural magnetic resonance imaging. In addition, we studied HPA axis dysfunction proxied by hair cortisol and waist circumference as potential risk factors for hypothalamic alterations. We provide first evidence of regionally different hypothalamic microstructure, with age effects in its anterior–superior subunit, a critical area for HPA axis regulation. Further, we report that waist circumference was related to increased free water and decreased iron content in this region. In age, hair cortisol was additionally associated with free water content, such that older participants with higher cortisol levels were more vulnerable to free water content increase than younger participants. Overall, our results suggest no general age-related decline in hypothalamic microstructure. Instead, older individuals could be more susceptible to risk factors of hypothalamic decline especially in the anterior–superior subregion, including HPA axis dysfunction, indicating the importance of endocrine and stress management in age. In this article, we present the idea of a digital transit port, an online space that illicit cultural objects pass through in digital format while on a pathway to public legitimization. These virtual transit ports connect virtual illicit and illegally trafficked cultural objects with virtual consumers under the aegis of promoting access and preservation, while simultaneously normalizing the presence of these objects in market and academic spaces. Digital transit ports, then, make virtual versions of illicit cultural objects openly consumable, much like physical transit ports launder physical cultural objects. They may also legitimize use of the physical objects, infringing on legislative efforts at curbing the illicit trade. To explore the idea of the digital transit port, we will consider the case of the so-called 'Afghan Genizah' collection, a disarticulated group of historical documents from northern Afghanistan that have appeared on the international market most likely after being looted and trafficked illicitly outside their country of origin. Recently, catalysts based on bulk indium oxide (In 2 O 3) have been used in CO 2 valorization; however, several studies correlate crystal phase with performance without considering possible changes during the reaction. In this context, we investigated different crystal phases of bulk In 2 O 3 (pure cubic, hexagonal, or mixed-phased) in CO 2 hydrogenation, where we observed variations in catalytic activity associated with phase transitions occurring under reaction conditions. We systematically compared the crystal phase and surface area before and after the reaction, showing that, at 350°C, independent from the initial In 2 O 3 structure, there is a tendency to form the cubic phase accompanied by the loss of surface area. To reach these results, we employed various synthetic methods that tailored structural and textural characteristics to achieve desired properties; for the first time, we obtained a cubic major mixed-phase In 2 O 3 structure at a 3-hour synthesis time by using a microwave-assisted method. Such material presented the best methanol productivity. Thus, as not previously reported, our results revealed that utilizing bulk hexagonal In 2 O 3 may not be interesting under this temperature; also, a higher surface area does not necessarily provide improved conversion rates. This work presents a biophysical model of diffusion and relaxation MRI for prostate called relaxation vascular, extracellular and restricted diffusion for cytometry in tumours (rVERDICT). The model includes compartment-specific relaxation effects providing T1/T2 estimates and microstructural parameters unbiased by relaxation properties of the tissue. 44 men with suspected prostate cancer (PCa) underwent multiparametric MRI (mp-MRI) and VERDICT-MRI followed by targeted biopsy. We estimate joint diffusion and relaxation prostate tissue parameters with rVERDICT using deep neural networks for fast fitting. We tested the feasibility of rVERDICT estimates for Gleason grade discrimination and compared with classic VERDICT and the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) from mp-MRI. The rVERDICT intracellular volume fraction fic discriminated between Gleason 3 + 3 and 3 + 4 (p = 0.003) and Gleason 3 + 4 and ≥ 4 + 3 (p = 0.040), outperforming classic VERDICT and the ADC from mp-MRI. To evaluate the relaxation estimates we compare against independent multi-TE acquisitions, showing that the rVERDICT T2 values are not significantly different from those estimated with the independent multi-TE acquisition (p > 0.05). Also, rVERDICT parameters exhibited high repeatability when rescanning five patients (R2 = 0.79–0.98; CV = 1–7%; ICC = 92–98%). The rVERDICT model allows for accurate, fast and repeatable estimation of diffusion and relaxation properties of PCa sensitive enough to discriminate Gleason grades 3 + 3, 3 + 4 and ≥ 4 + 3. In this work, we investigate some theoretical aspects related to the estimation approach proposed by Liebermeister and Klipp, 2006, in which general rate laws, derived from standardized enzymatic mechanisms, are exploited to kinetically describe the fluxes of a metabolic reaction network, and multiple metabolic steady-state measurements are exploited to estimate the unknown kinetic parameters. Further mathematical details are deeply investigated, and necessary conditions on the amount of information required to solve the identification problem are given. Moreover, theoretical results for the parameter identifiability are provided, and symmetrical and modular properties of the proposed approach are highlighted when the global identification problem is decoupled into smaller and simpler identification problems related to the single reactions of the network. Among the advantages of the proposed innovative approach are (i) non-restrictive conditions to guarantee the solvability of the parameter estimation problem, (ii) the unburden of the usual computational complexity for such identification problems, and (iii) the ease of obtaining the required number of measurements, which are actually steady-state data, experimentally easier to obtain with respect to the time-dependent ones. Abstract This contribution proposes reframing the concept of psychopathology as it applies to the dysfunctions that individuals with neuropsychological deficits display. It suggests that labeling these dysfunctions as symptoms of an underlying condition is an incomplete way of characterizing the process that leads to that outcome. An evolutionary and nonlinear dynamic systems approach complements this position and depathologizes individuals’ efforts to deal with their disabilities. Stressors such as lack of access to feed, hot temperatures, transportation, and pen changes can cause impairment of ruminal and intestinal barrier function, also known as “leaky gut”. Despite the known benefits of some nutritional approaches during periods of stress, little is understood regarding the underlying mechanisms, especially in dairy cows. We evaluated the effect of feeding a Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation product (SCFP; NutriTek, Diamond V, Cedar Rapids, IA) on the ileal transcriptome in response to feed restriction (FR), an established model to induce intestinal barrier dysfunction. Multiparous cows [97.1 ± 7.6 days in milk (DIM); n = 5/group] fed a control diet or control plus 19 g/d SCFP for 9 wk were subjected to an FR challenge for 5 d during which they were fed 40% of their ad libitum intake from the 7 d before FR. All cows were slaughtered at the end of FR, and ileal scrapping RNA was used for RNAseq (NovaSeq 6000, 100 bp read length). Statistical analysis was performed in R and bioinformatics using the KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) and GO databases. One thousand six hundred and ninety-six differentially expressed genes (DEG; FDR-adjusted P ≤ 0.10) were detected in SCFP vs. control, with 451 upregulated and 1,245 downregulated. “Mucin type O-glycan biosynthesis” was the top downregulated KEGG pathway due to downregulation of genes catalyzing glycosylation of mucins (GCNT3, GALNT5, B3GNT3, GALNT18, and GALNT14). An overall downregulation of cell and tissue structure genes (e.g., extracellular matrix proteins) associated with collagen (COL6A1, COL1A1, COL4A1, COL1A2, and COL6A2), laminin (LAMB2), and integrins (ITGA8, ITGA2, and ITGA5) also were detected with SCFP. A subset of DEG enriched in the GO term “extracellular exosome” and “extracellular space”. Chemokines within “Cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction pathways” such as CCL16, CCL21, CCL14, CXCL12, and CXCL14 were downregulated by SCFP. The “Glutathione metabolism” pathway was upregulated by SCFP, including GSTA1 and RRM2B among the top upregulated genes, and GSTM1 and GPX8 as top downregulated genes. There were 9 homeobox transcription factors among the top 50 predicted transcription factors using the RNAseq DEG dataset, underscoring the importance of cell differentiation as a potential target of dietary SCFP. Several recent multi-compartment diffusion MRI investigations and modeling strategies have utilized the orientationally-averaged, or spherical mean, diffusion-weighted signal to study tissue microstructure of the central nervous system. Most experimental designs sample a large number of diffusion weighted directions in order to calculate the spherical mean signal, however, sampling a subset of these directions may increase scanning efficiency and enable either a decrease in scan time or the ability to sample more diffusion weightings. Here, we aim to determine the minimum number of gradient directions needed for a robust measurement of the spherical mean signal. We used computer simulations to characterize the variation of the measured spherical mean signal as a function of the number of gradient directions, while also investigating the effects of diffusion weighting (b-value), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), available hardware, and spherical mean fitting strategy. We then utilize empirically acquired data in the brain and spinal cord to validate simulations, showing experimental results are in good agreement with simulations. We summarize these results by providing an intuitive lookup table to facilitate the determination of the minimal number of sampling directions needed for robust spherical mean measurements, and give recommendations based on SNR and experimental conditions. Simple Summary: Body fluids contain different classes of RNA molecules such as protein-coding messenger RNAs (mRNA) and noncoding RNAs, including microRNAs (miRNAs), long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and circular RNAs (circRNAs). These circulating RNAs can travel naked or packed into extracellular vesicles and display valuable potential as non-invasive biomarkers of sarcoma malignancy. In this review, we summarize current knowledge on the possible functions of these circulating RNAs and discuss their possible exploitation as novel markers to improve sarcoma diagnosis and prognosis. Despite the recent advance in technological tools have improved protocols for the extraction and detection of circulating RNA, many aspects related to the biology of these molecules remain to be elucidated. In particular, the lack of standardization in the assessment of these markers makes difficult their adoption into clinical practice. Sarcomas comprise a heterogeneous group of rare mesenchymal malignancies. Sarcomas can be grouped into two categories characterized by different prognosis and treatment approaches: soft tissue sarcoma and primary bone sarcoma. In the last years, research on novel diagnostic, prognostic or predictive biomarkers in sarcoma management has been focused on circulating tumor-derived molecules as valuable tools. Liquid biopsies that measure various tumor components, including circulating cell-free DNA and RNA, circulating tumor cells, tumor extracellular vesicles and exosomes, are gaining attention as methods for molecular screening and early diagnosis. Compared with traditional tissue biopsies, liquid biopsies are minimally invasive and blood samples can be collected serially over time to monitor cancer progression. This review will focus on circulating noncoding RNA molecules from liquid biopsies that are dysregulated in sarcoma malignancies and discuss advantages and current limitations of their employment as biomarkers in the management of sarcomas. It will also explore their utility in the evaluation of the clinical response to treatments and of disease relapse. Moreover, it will explore state-of-the-art techniques that allow for the early detection of these circulating biomarkers. Despite the huge potential, current reports highlight poor sensitivity, specificity, and survival benefit of these methods, that are therefore still insufficient for routine screening purposes. This research investigates the neural mechanisms behind context-induced reinstatement of alcohol-seeking behavior, focusing on the nucleus accumbens and its interactions with the prelimbic cortex, employing Male Long-Evans rats in an ABA renewal model. In our experimental setup, rats were trained to self-administer 10 % ethanol in Context A, followed by extinction of lever pressing in the presence of discrete cues in Context B. The context-induced reinstatement of ethanol-seeking was then assessed by re-exposing rats to Context A or B under extinction conditions, aiming to simulate the environmental cues' influence on relapse behaviors. Three experiments were conducted: Experiment 1 utilized Fos-immunohistochemistry to examine neuronal activation in the nucleus accumbens; Experiment 2 applied the baclofen + muscimol inactivation technique to probe the functional importance of the nucleus accumbens core; Experiment 3 used Fos-immunofluorescence along with Retrobeads injection to investigate activation of neurons projecting from the prelimbic cortex to the nucleus accumbens core. Our findings revealed significant increases in Fos-immunoreactive nuclei within the nucleus accumbens core and shell during the reinstatement phase in Context A, underscoring the environment's potent effect on ethanol-seeking behavior. Additionally, inactivation of the nucleus accumbens core markedly reduced reinstatement, and there was a notable activation of neurons from the prelimbic cortex to the nucleus accumbens core in the ethanol-associated context. Objectives: To identify novel associations between modifiable physical and health variables, Alzheimer's disease (AD) biomarkers, and cognitive function in a cohort of older adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). Methods: Metrics of cardiometabolic risk, stress, inflammation, neurotrophic/growth factors, AD, and cognition were assessed in 154 MCI participants (Mean age = 74.1 years) from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative. Partial Least Squares analysis was employed to examine associations among these physiological variables and cognition. Results: Latent variable 1 revealed a unique combination of AD biomarkers, neurotrophic/growth factors, education, and stress that were significantly associated with specific domains of cognitive function, including episodic memory, executive function, processing speed, and language, representing 45.2% of the cross-block covariance in the data. Age, body mass index, and metrics tapping basic attention or premorbid IQ were not significant. Conclusions: Our data-driven analysis highlights the significant relationships between metrics associated with AD pathology, neuroprotection, and neuroplasticity, primarily with tasks tapping episodic memory, executive function, processing speed, and verbal fluency rather than more basic tasks that do not require mental manipulation (basic attention and vocabulary). These data also indicate that biological metrics are more strongly associated with episodic memory, executive function, and processing speed than chronological age in older adults with MCI. Over the past decades, remote sensing satellite sensors have significantly increased their performance and, at the same time, differed in their characteristics. Therefore, making the data repeatable over time and uniform with respect to different platforms has become one of the most challenging issues to obtain a representation of the intrinsic characteristics of the observed target. In this context, atmospheric correction has the role of cleaning the signal from unwanted contributions and moving from the sensor radiance to a quantity more closely related to the intrinsic properties of the target, such as ground reflectance. To this end, atmospheric correction procedures must consider a number of factors, closely related to the specific scene acquired and to the characteristics of the sensor. In mountainous environments, atmospheric correction must include a topographic correction level to compensate for the topographic effects that heavily affect the remote signal. In this paper, we want to estimate the impact of topographic correction on remote sensing images based on a statistical analysis, using data acquired under different illumination conditions with different sensors. Simple probabilistic reinforcement learning is recognized as a striatum-based learning system, but in recent years, has also been associated with hippocampal involvement. This study examined whether such involvement may be attributed to observation-based learning (OL) processes, running in parallel to striatum-based reinforcement learning. A computational model of OL, mirroring classic models of reinforcement-based learning (RL), was constructed and applied to the neuroimaging data set of Palombo, Hayes, Reid, and Verfaellie [2019. Results suggested that OL processes may indeed take place concomitantly to reinforcement learning and involve activation of the hippocampus and central orbitofrontal cortex. However, rather than independent mechanisms running in parallel, the brain correlates of the OL and RL prediction errors indicated collaboration between systems, with direct implication of the hippocampus in computations of the discrepancy between the expected and actual reinforcing values of actions. These findings are consistent with previous accounts of a role for the hippocampus in encoding the strength of observed stimulus–outcome associations, with updating of such associations through striatal reinforcement-based computations. In addition, enhanced negative RL prediction error signaling was found in the anterior insula with greater use of OL over RL processes. Obesity is associated with an increased risk of several chronic comorbidities, which may also be determined by dysfunctional autonomic nervous system (ANS). The influence of bariatric surgery (BS) on ANS balance was explored in previous studies, but with high heterogeneity in both the assessment timing and methods employed. In the present observational study, we applied a clinical protocol which considers two subsequent phases. Twenty-nine non-diabetic obese subjects were studied at baseline (T0), after one month of lifestyle modification (prehabilitation) (phase 1-T1), and after eight months following BS (phase 2-T2). ANS regulation was assessed across the three study epochs by means of ANSI, a single composite percent-ranked proxy of autonomic balance, being free of gender and age bias, economical and simple to apply in a clinical setting. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of the clinical protocol based on prehabilitation and subsequent BS on the ANS regulation by means of ANSI. Potential intertwined correlations with metabolic parameters were also investigated. Notably, we observed a progressive improvement in ANS control, even by employing ANSI. Moreover, the reduction in the markers of sympathetic overactivity was found to significantly correlate with the amelioration in some metabolic parameters (fasting glucose, insulin levels, and waist circumference), as well as in stress and tiredness perception. In conclusion, this study provides convincing evidence that a unitary proxy of cardiac autonomic regulation (CAR) may reflect the progressive improvement in autonomic regulation following behavioral and surgical interventions in obese patients. Brown trout (Salmo trutta), like many other freshwater species, is threated by the release in its natural environment of alien species and the restocking with allochthonous conspecific stocks. Many conservation projects are ongoing and several morphological and genetic tools have been proposed to support activities aimed to restore genetic integrity status of native populations. Nevertheless, due to the complexity of degree of introgression reached up after many generations of crossing, the use of dichotomous key and molecular markers, such as mtDNA, LDH-C1* and microsatellites, are often not sufficient to discriminate native and admixed specimens at individual level. Here we propose a reduced panel of ancestry-informative SNP markers (AIMs) to support on field activities for Mediterranean trout management and conservation purpose. Starting from the genotypes data obtained on specimens sampled in the main two Molise's rivers (Central-Southern Italy), a 47 AIMs panel was identified and validated on simulated and real hybrid population datasets, mainly through a Machine Learning approach based on Random Forest classifier. The AIMs panel proposed may represent an interesting and cost-effective tool for monitoring the level of introgression between native and allochthonous trout population for conservation purpose and this methodology could be also applied in other species. Simple Summary: Ewing sarcoma is a pediatric tumor characterized by chromosomal translocations, giving rise to the oncogene EWS-FLI1, which triggers the transcription of genes involved in neoplastic transformation including CCND1. In this work, we found that exposure to etoposide, a topoisomerase II inhibitor usually administered in combination with other drugs in the standard regimen for Ewing sarcoma treatment, induced cell death and reduced CCND1 levels. Etoposide acts, at least in part, by enhancing the expression of the pncCCND1_B, a promoter-associated noncoding RNA transcribed from the promoter region of the CCND1 gene. PncCCND1_B regulates in cisCCND1 expression by forming a molecular complex with the RNA binding protein Sam68 and the DNA/RNA helicase DHX9. Upon exposure to etoposide, the increase in pncCCND1_B coupled with the decrease in DHX9 expression promote epigenetic changes and formation of DNA:RNA hybrids at the promoter region of CCND1 gene, which downregulate its expression. Promoter-associated noncoding RNAs (pancRNAs) represent a class of noncoding transcripts driven from the promoter region of protein-coding or non-coding genes that operate as cis-acting elements to regulate the expression of the host gene. PancRNAs act by altering the chromatin structure and recruiting transcription regulators. PncCCND1_B is driven by the promoter region of CCND1 and regulates CCND1 expression in Ewing sarcoma through recruitment of a multi-molecular complex composed of the RNA binding protein Sam68 and the DNA/RNA helicase DHX9. In this study, we investigated the regulation of CCND1 expression in Ewing sarcoma cells upon exposure to chemotherapeutic drugs. Pan-inhibitor screening indicated that etoposide, a drug used for Ewing sarcoma treatment, promotes transcription of pncCCND1_B and repression of CCND1 expression. RNA immunoprecipitation experiments showed increased binding of Sam68 to the pncCCND1_B after treatment, despite the significant reduction in DHX9 protein. This effect was associated with the formation of DNA:RNA duplexes at the CCND1 promoter. Furthermore, Sam68 interacted with HDAC1 in etoposide treated cells, thus contributing to chromatin remodeling and epigenetic changes. Interestingly, inhibition of the ATM signaling pathway by KU 55,933 treatment was sufficient to inhibit etoposide-induced Sam68-HDAC1 interaction without rescuing DHX9 expression. In these conditions, the DNA:RNA hybrids persist, thus contributing to the local chromatin inactivation at the CCND1 promoter region. Altogether, our results show an active role of Sam68 in DNA damage signaling and chromatin remodeling on the CCND1 gene by fine-tuning transitions of epigenetic complexes on the CCND1 promoter. The research describes for the first time a possible case of pituitary gigantism in fossil mammals, precisely in deer. The pathology was detected in 2 long bones (tibia and metatarsus) belonging to an individual of an unusual large size found at the Bate cave (Rethymnon, Northern Crete). It formed the basis of Candiacervus major, the largest among the endemic deer species recorded in the Pleistocene‐Early Holocene of Crete. Radiological and histomorphological examinations highlighted a reduction in cortical bone thickness and the presence of wide lacunae inside of the bone tissue. The pathological conditions suggest a pituitary gigantism diagnosis also supported by some morphological evidence, such as the extremely elongated distal part of the metatarsal diaphysis, the proportionally small proximal epiphysis, and some bone gracility. The diagnosis of a case of pituitary gigantism as presumed responsible for the extraordinary elongation of the tibia and the metatarsal bone is intriguing as they are, respectively, the paratype and the holotype of the C. major. The species represents a case of a deviation from the "island rule" in Pleistocene large mammals. The new evidence recommends a taxonomic and nomenclatural revision of this species. The main outcomes of this research are as follows: (i) a case of pituitary gigantism is described for the first time in an extinct mammal; (ii) it is underlined that paleohistology may provide interesting clues for disentangling taxonomic and nomenclatural issues; (iii) one of the very few cases of gigantism in insular mammals is being questioned. In this work, the feasibility condition of Powder-In-Tube (PIT) processed wires of Fe(Se,Te) superconductor has been investigated. We faced several technical issues that are extensively described and discussed. In particular, we tested different metals and alloys as external sheaths (Cu, Ag, Nb, Ta, Ni, Fe, cupronickel, brass) concluding that the only sheath that does not affect substantially the Fe(Se,Te) phase is Fe. On the other hand, Fe sheath introduces excess iron in the Fe(Se,Te) phase, which affects the superconducting properties; we investigated the effects of the thermal treatments and of the powder composition in order to avoid it. The maximum Jc value obtained in our samples is 4 × 102A/cm2, comparable to other published values of PIT conductors of the 11 family. We conclude that the fabrication of Fe(Se,Te) wires by PIT method is quite challenging and other approaches should be developed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Spatiotemporal context is an intrinsic aspect of episodic memory. Although a large literature has demonstrated that emotion enhances episodic memory, less research has considered whether and how emotion affects memory for the timing of an experience, despite theoretical and practical importance. In this review, we bridge three heavily researched cognitive domains – memory, emotion, and time – by discussing findings from a burgeoning literature on their intersection. We identify and review two broad ways in which memory for time has been conceptualised in the emotional memory literature, namely (1) memory for relative aspects of event timing ("when" an event detail occurred), which includes studies of temporal-order and source memory; and (2) memory for the time that elapsed during an event ("how long"), which includes studies of retrospective duration estimation. Emerging trends demonstrate that although temporal-order memory can be impaired or enhanced by emotion depending on study demands, temporal source memory, instead, is usually enhanced. Studies of duration memory show that the remembered duration of negative experiences is dilated, but it is less clear how duration memory is affected for positive events. These findings are considered under the lens of broader emotional memory literature theories, and directions for future research are proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper re-apprises the scant elephant remains belonging to a dwarf Palaeoloxodon of uncertain taxonomy collected during the 1980s from a cave on Favignana Island (Aegadian Archipelago, western Sicily). The elephant was recently 14C-dated to the Last Glacial Maximum (20,350–19,840 cal. BP), indicating that the Favignana elephant is likely the most recent insular endemic Palaeoloxodon species thus far reported from the Western Mediterranean. Dimensionally the remains are smaller than the late Middle-Late Pleistocene P. ex gr. P. mnaidriensis from Puntali Cave (Palermo), and similar in size to the P. ex gr. P. mnaidriensis individual from San Teodoro Cave (Messina) post-dating a flowstone U-Th dated to ca. 32 ka. Accordingly, the possibility that relict populations of Palaeoloxodon persisted on Sicily longer than previously believed remains an intriguing possibility. None the less, the available data do not clearly indicate whether or not the small dimensions and recent age of the Favignana elephant may reflect a Late Pleistocene colonisation of Favignana Island by small P. ex gr. P.mnaidriensis. Our palaeogeographic reconstruction of the Aegadian Islands does however demonstrate that Favignana was connected to Sicily during most of the Late Pleistocene, allowing elephants to disperse freely between Sicily and Favignana during the Last Glacial (MIS 4-MIS2). The estimation of central aortic blood pressure is a cardinal measurement, carrying effective physiological, and prognostic data beyond routine peripheral blood pressure. Transfer function‐based devices effectively estimate aortic systolic and diastolic blood pressure from peripheral pressure waveforms, but the reconstructed pressure waveform seems to preserve features of the peripheral waveform. We sought to develop a new method for converting the local diameter distension waveform into a pressure waveform, through an exponential function whose parameters depend on the local wave speed. The proposed method was then tested at the common carotid artery. Diameter and blood velocity waveforms were acquired via ultrasound at the right common carotid artery while simultaneously recording pressure at the left common carotid artery via tonometer in 203 people (122 men, 50 ± 18 years). The wave speed was noninvasively estimated via the lnDU‐loop method and then used to define the exponential function to convert the diameter into pressure. Noninvasive systolic and mean pressures estimated by the new technique were 3.8 ± 21.8 (p = 0.015) and 2.3 ± 9.6 mmHg (p = 0.011) higher than those obtained using tonometery. However, differences were much reduced and not significant in people >35 years (0.6 ± 18.7 and 0.8 ± 8.3 mmHg, respectively). This proof of concept study demonstrated that local wave speed, estimated from noninvasive local measurement of diameter and flow velocity, can be used to determine an exponential function that describes the relationship between local pressure and diameter. Objectives: Evaluate the dimensions and morphology of peri‐implant tissues around a modified dental implant designed with tissue level connection and a convergent transmucosal neck, when compared with a conventional bone level implant connected to a cylindrical machined titanium abutment. Material and methods: Eight experimental animals were used for this in vivo investigation, in whom 16 test and 16 control implants were placed following a random allocation sequence. The following histological outcomes at 4 and 12 weeks were evaluated: morphology of peri‐implant tissues, the soft tissue height and thickness, the horizontal and vertical bone remodeling, and the bone to implant contact (BIC). Results: In both early (4 weeks) and late (12 weeks) healing times, there were no statistically significant differences between test and control implants, with respect to the overall height and thickness of the peri‐implant hard and soft tissues. There was a tendency toward a more coronal free gingival margin (I‐FGM) at the buccal aspect of test when compared to control implants (at 4 weeks, difference of 0.97 mm (p =.572) and 0.30 mm (p = 1.000) at 12 weeks). Similarly, there was a tendency toward a more coronal position of the first bone to implant contact (I‐B) at the buccal aspect of test as compared to control implants (1.08 mm (p = 0.174) at 4 weeks and 0.83 mm (p = 0.724) at 12 weeks). Conclusions: Hard and soft tissue healing occurred at both implant types with no statistically significant differences.
