The amendment of the Placement Act (UbG) aims to improve communication between the police, social and health authorities, and introduce specific provisions for minors. The changes will come into effect on July 1, 2023, and include regulations for admission to and discharge from psychiatric facilities, provisions for the placement of minors, as well as changes regarding treatment, restriction, termination of placement, judicial review, outpatient treatment, and absence. The reform aims to strengthen the quality of interaction with those affected and improve cooperation between relevant actors. This Fieldnote challenges scholars of Islam and Muslims to consider how the production of knowledge on Islam and Muslims has long been, and continues to be, intimately associated with projects of governance, whether by the modern state or premodern regime. The present is simply a particularly robust historical period during which, wherever one might stand on the political spectrum, the study of Islam is undertaken in the shadow of the state—a disaggregated project of law and justice, border control, national security, and regulation. This Fieldnote recasts Islam and Muslim in an adjectival sense—'Islamic' and 'Muslim'—in order to highlight their variability in relation to the purposes for which they are deployed. To better understand the dynamics by which the 'Islamic' is deployed for purposes of state projects, this Fieldnote outlines four registers of analysis—time, space, scale, and rhetoric—to inspire new research on the production of knowledge in the academic study of Islam and Muslims today. Dieser Beitrag befasst sich mit der Befürchtung, dass eine Erweiterung der DNA-Analyse von Tatortspuren für Zwecke der Polizeiarbeit zu Diskriminierungen führen wird. Diese Erwartung bezieht sich insbesondere auf die Ermittlung der sogenannten biogeografischen Abstammung und der Hautschattierung. In dieser Untersuchung werden einige Stellen im Ermittlungsprozess, an denen auf Grundlage solcher Analysen Diskriminierungspotential auftreten könnte, zunächst gesammelt und dargelegt. Im zweiten Teil wird dann der Diskriminierungsbegriff genauer beleuchtet. Dabei wird sich zeigen, dass verschiedene Positionen zu der Frage, was genau eine Diskriminierung moralisch problematisch macht, zu unterschiedlichen Einschätzungen der DNAPhänotypisierung in der Polizeiarbeit führen. There is a concern according to which analyzing crime scene DNA to determine biogeographic origin and skin color of suspects can lead to discrimination against minority populations. This article summarizes and explains some of those parts of the investigation process that can give rise to discrimination. The second part of the paper offers an analysis of the notion of discrimination and presents different accounts of the exact ground of its moral wrongness. This paper reflects on the experience of the research "Applied Psychoanalysis and the Practice in the Community", based on the clinical service offered to the officers of the 10th Military Police Battalion of Rio de Janeiro State. In it we think about the particular characteristics of the psychoanalytic treatment of policemen, in order to understand the contingency of the possible management for traumatic events, so as to welcome the excess of jouissance present in the testimony that the policemen bring of their symptoms and passages to the act. The objective of this article is to explore the role of parliament in police governance in selected countries in Asia and Europe, including Belgium, Germany, India, Indonesia, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Thailand and the United Kingdom. Based on a comparative framework of analysis, the country case studies demonstrate that parliaments apply their generic functions to the police, including the legislative, budget control and oversight function. Furthermore, parliaments in all case studies have a dedicated committee or sub-committee dealing with police affairs, endowed with subpoena and contempt powers to compel government and police officers to appear before committee meetings and to submit required documents. In addition, for police to be fully accountable, parliaments have legislated and set up independent oversight bodies, including independent police complaints bodies, ombudspersons and national human rights institutions as well as anti-corruption/financial audit bodies and data-protection commissioners. The study looks at a relationship between the deception detection and the tendency to stereotypical evaluations based on someone's appearance. This presumption is based on social stereotypes research (e.g. Eagly, Ashmore, Makhijani, Longo, 1991), reporting a tendency to connect a person's outward with their characteristics and to expect people of a certain look to behave in a certain way. Respondents (n = 197) working in police departments in the Czech Republic completed a lie detection task. They evaluated veracity of the statements of various visual types of suspects in a set of 21 videos from a real investigation of a crime. The decision about truthfulness or deceitfulnes of the person on particular video was based on the nonverbal behaviour. Results confirm that respondents have a tendency to truth or lie bias based on their profession. In the evaluation of videos, stereotypes played a significant role. The statements of suspects of a different ethnicity were considered deceitful more often than of others. The older suspects were considered more truthful than those of younger age. Research might be beneficial for training in professions that are in need of deception detection techniques and for understanding the influence of stereotypes on our thoughts and evaluation of others. Since the end of the Cold War, many if not all, European or Western countries have increasingly used their armed forces for missions within the borders of the state. The aim of this article is to compare the internal deployment of the military in two European countries: Germany and Italy, both of which experienced authoritarian rule and militarism in the 20th century. However, despite similar historical experiences, there have been considerable differences between the two countries in terms of the roles their armed forces have come to play in addressing domestic challenges in recent years. Indeed, they may represent opposite extremes on a spectrum ranging from very limited to very far-reaching involvement of military forces in internal (security) matters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The term "security" has historically developed and differentiated itself with the Peace of Westphalia and the constituting of the modern nation-state. Security became a responsibility of the state. As of this time, a distinction of responsibility between internal and external security has been considered to be one of the characteristics of the nation-state. In the field of external security, international law has been established, whereas the internal security is based on the respective national legal and constitutional norms. Nevertheless, ambitions to link internal and external security more strongly have risen since the terror attacks of 9/11. Against the background of this controversy, current tendencies towards an increased interweaving of internal and external security in Europe will be surveyed and subjected to a critical analysis.
