In this paper, a modification is proposed in the conventional finite control set model predictive controller (FCS-MPC) applied in the three-phase voltage source inverter's (VSI's) output current control with resistive-inductive (RL) load. It comprises the introduction of the novel type of hysteresis-based comparator in the cost function evaluation implemented with a single-step prediction horizon, which represents an improvement when compared to existing solutions. In this way, effective reduction of the VSI output voltage high switching frequency is achieved, by implementing a simplified predictive current control algorithm. Also, an effective disturbance estimator algorithm is proposed, which enables the operation of a hysteresis FCS-MPC with RL load and with unmeasurable external disturbances. Simulation and experimental tests are used in the paper to prove the effectiveness of the proposed solution, showing the extent of the impact that the chosen cost evaluation comparator hysteresis value has on the resulting average power converter switching frequency, for the model predictive control current controller operating with the zero steady-state error. Pulsed electrolysis has become a promising research topic in recent decades due to advances in solid-state semiconductor devices. These technologies have enabled the design and construction of simpler, more efficient, and less costly high-voltage and high-frequency power converters. In this paper, we study high-voltage pulsed electrolysis considering variations in both power converter parameters and cell configuration. Experimental results are obtained for frequency variations ranging from 10 Hz to 1 MHz, voltage changes from 2 V to 500 V, and electrode separations from 0.1 to 2 mm. Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a communication alternative to increase the scalability and resilience of microgrid hierarchical control. The common architecture has a centralized and monolithic topology, where the controller is highly susceptible to latency problems, resiliency, and scalability issues. This paper proposes a novel and intelligent control network to improve the performance of microgrid communications, solving the typical drawback of monolithic SDN controllers. The SDN controller's functionalities are segregated into microservices groups and distributed through a bare-metal Kubernetes cluster. Results are presented from PLECS hardware in the loop simulation to validate the seamless transition between standard hierarchical control to the SDN networked microgrid. The microservices significantly impact the performance of the SDN controller, decreasing the latency by 10.76% compared with a monolithic architecture. Furthermore, the proposed approach demonstrates a 42.23% decrease in packet loss versus monolithic topologies and a 53.41% reduction in recovery time during failures. Combining Kubernetes with SDN microservices can eliminate the single point of failure in hierarchical control, improve application recovery time, and enhance containerization benefits, including security and portability. The land transportation is a cause of noise in cities, thus breaking the natural balance and bringing with it physiological and mental illnesses, as well as occupational accidents. In this sense, the objective of the research was to estimate the sound pressure in land terminals in the city of Jaen, Peru, using data mining algorithms. The methodology consisted in environmentally monitoring six terminals in the city of Jaen, during 2019, using a class 1 sound level meter; the exploratory analysis of the collected variables that influence the noise of the terminals (minimum and maximum sound pressure level, number of light and heavy vehicles, and equivalent sound pressure level) was performed, which were grouped into three groups of variables for the purpose of using data mining algorithms. Three algorithms were used, namely, artificial neural network, linear regression, and M5Rules, using the free software Weka. Considering all variables, the M5Rules method performed the best, because the value of the mean absolute error (0.7462), the root mean square error (1.0575), and uncertainty analysis (0.09) was the smallest compared to the other two methods. However, for the two remaining groups of variables, the linear regression model showed the lowest mean absolute error and mean square root of the error; in addition to presenting coefficients of determination close to one. Shunt active filters (SAFs) can be used for harmonic mitigation, reactive power compensation and power factor control in electrical distribution networks. Model predictive controller (MPC) can be used to give optimum performance for SAF's due to its inherent cost function optimization. The SAF's reference current extraction technique in finite control set-MPC (FCS-MPC) plays a vital role in the effectiveness of the SAF's operation. The advantage of FCS-MPC is that it closely tracks the reference and injects the required compensating currents by optimizing the SAF's switching vector and it does not require an external modulator for pulse generation. FCS-MPC can be implemented as either an optimal switching vector MPC (OSV-MPC) or an optimal switching sequence MPC (OSS-MPC) technique. The OSV-MPC technique is simple and efficient for SAF applications. In this paper, a novel reference current extraction technique, the inverse matrix average pq-synchronous reference frame (SRF) (IMApq-SRF) technique, is proposed along with the OSV-MPC technique. Practically a two-step delay compensation is essential in the implementation of the technique for the control of an SAF. Hence in this paper a two-step horizon OSV-MPC technique is proposed along with an IMApq-SRF reference current extraction technique to improve the power quality in distribution networks. The future space-borne Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) is expected to detect gravitational waves (GW) from Extreme Mass Ratio Inspiral (EMRI) binaries which may live in nontrivial environments such as accretion disks. In this work, we apply the Fisher matrix Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method to assess how well LISA observations can jointly constrain the source parameters and environmental densities around EMRIs. Specifically, we calculate the Fisher matrix from the post-Newtonian parameters of an EMRI binary embedded in a fluid with a constant density profile. We determine that the most dominant measurable parameter combination is dominated by contributions from environmental effects, namely, gravitational drag, accretion, and gravitational pull (in order of contribution). The modulation law of the two-level five-phase voltage source inverters is modelled with two decoupled subspaces and their respective reference voltages. A new voltage-time system based on the duty cycles for this topology is presented in this article. Then, an alternative scheme to the space vector modulation is developed by deriving an analytic solution for the case of study, which is achieved with a low-computational cost algorithm. The strategy reckons the duty periods of the power switches immediately and can be implemented straightforwardly in a digital controller. The zero-sequence voltage is also considered to provide multifrequency operation either in continuous or discontinuous switching modes. Background: We propose two new concepts, the Filum Disease (FD) and the Neuro-cranio-vertebral syndrome (NCVS), that group together conditions thus far considered idiopathic, such as Arnold-Chiari Syndrome Type I (ACSI), Idiopathic Syringomyelia (ISM), Idiopathic Scoliosis (IS), Basilar Impression (BI), Platybasia (PTB) Retroflexed Odontoid (RO) and Brainstem Kinking (BSK).Method: We describe the symptomatology, the clinical course and the neurological signs of the new nosological entities as well as the changes visible on imaging studies in a series of 373 patients.Results: Our series included 72% women with a mean age of 33.66 years; 48% of the patients had an interval from onset to diagnosis longer than 10 years and 64% had a progressive clinical course. The commonest symptoms were: headache 84%, lumbosacral pain 72%, cervical pain 72%, balance alteration 72% and paresthesias 70%. The commonest neurological signs were: altered deep tendon reflexes in upper extremities 86%, altered deep tendon reflexes in lower extremities 82%, altered plantar reflexes 73%, decreased grip strength 70%, altered sensibility to temperature 69%, altered abdominal reflexes 68%, positive Mingazzini's test 66%, altered sensibility to touch 65% and deviation of the uvula and/or tongue 64%. The imaging features most often seen were: altered position of cerebellar tonsils 93%, low-lying Conus medullaris below the T12L1 disc 88%, idiopathic scoliosis 76%, multiple disc disease 72% and syringomyelic cavities 52%.Conclusions: This is a paradigm shift that opens up new paths for research and broadens the range of therapeutics available to these patients. Recent advances in high-power applications employing voltage source converters have been primarily fuelled by the emergence of the modular multilevel converter (MMC) and its derivatives. Model predictive control (MPC) has emerged as an effective way of controlling these converters because of its high response. However, the practical implementation of MPC encounters hurdles, particularly in MMCs featuring many sub-modules per arm. This research introduces an approach termed folding model predictive control (FMPC), coupled with a pre-processing sorting algorithm, tailored for modular multilevel converters. The objective is to alleviate a significant part of the computational burden associated with the control of these converters. The FMPC framework combines multiple control objectives, encompassing AC current, DC current, circulating current, arm energy, and leg energy, within a unified cost function. Both simulation studies and real-time hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing are conducted to verify the efficacy of the proposed FMPC. The findings underscore the FMPC's ability to deliver fast response and robust performance under both steady-state and dynamic operating conditions. Moreover, the FMPC adeptly mitigates circulating currents, reduces total harmonic distortion (THD%), and upholds capacitor voltage stability within acceptable thresholds, even in the presence of harmonic distortions in the AC grid. The practical applicability of MMCs, notwithstanding the presence of a large number of sub-modules (SMs) per arm, is facilitated by the significant reduction in switching states and computational overhead achieved through the FMPC approach. In order to gain insights into continental arc magmatic processes, we have conducted a petrological and geochemical study of major and trace elements and Sr, Nd, and Pb isotopes of the Ampato-Sabancaya compound volcano, which belongs to the Andean Central Volcanic Zone (CVZ). Whole-rock compositions for Ampato and Sabancaya range from andesites to dacites (56.7–69.3 wt% SiO 2) and both belong to a medium- to high-K calk-alkaline magmatic series. Ampato-Sabancaya samples are characterized by high contents of large-ion lithophile elements (LILE; e.g. , K, Rb, Ba, Th), low concentrations of high field strength elements (HFSE; e.g. , Nb, Zr) and heavy rare earth elements (HREE; e.g. , Yb), with consequently high La/Yb and Sr/Y ratios. An increase in these ratios is usually interpreted as a result of magmatic differentiation in the presence of garnet in the deep crust. A detailed analysis reveals that the rocks of Ampato-Sabancaya display three different compositional groups. (1) The first, composed mainly of andesites (56.7–59.8 wt% SiO 2), corresponds to lavas from the early stage of the Ampato Basal edifice, as well as pyroclastic deposits from the Ampato Upper edifice. (2) The second group corresponds to andesitic and dacitic compositions (60.0–67.3 wt% SiO 2) from the Ampato Basal edifice (Moldepampa stage), the Ampato Upper edifice, and the Sabancaya edifice. (3) The third group corresponds to dacitic compositions (65.0–69.3 wt% SiO 2) associated with the Corinta Plinian fallout and pyroclastic flow deposits from the Ampato Upper edifice. This last group of dacites, erupted during the Ampato Upper edifice stage, have drastically different compositions from the other groups with Sr/Y (<27) and Sm/Yb (<4.7) ratios lower than other lavas and lacking evidence of amphibole and/or garnet fractionation during their genesis. As a whole, Sr, Nd, Pd isotopic ratios suggest that mantle-derived magmas are significantly affected by assimilation processes during their evolution, due to the thick (65–70 km) continental crust beneath the CVZ in southern Peru. In summary, the magmatic evolution of group 1 and 2 can be explained by a two-step model in which primitive magmas evolved in the deep crust in the so-called melting-assimilation-storage-homogenization (MASH)-type reservoirs by assimilation-fractional crystallization (AFC) processes involving garnet and/or amphibole. Then, amphibole-dominated upper crustal AFC processes and magma mixing are responsible for the geochemical diversity of the main ASCV trend. In contrats, the group 3 dacites followed an upper crustal AFC process (without amphibole) from a different primitive magma, which did not suffer the high pressure, garnet-dominated AFC processes. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to stabilize the rotating speed of the permanent magnet direct current (PMDC) motor driven by a DC-DC boost converter under mismatched disturbances (i.e.) under varying load circumstances like constant, frictional, fan type, propeller and undefined torques. Design/methodology/approach: This manuscript proposes a higher order sliding mode control to elevate the dynamic behavior of the speed controller and the robustness of the PMDC motor. A second order classical sliding surface and proportional-integral-derivative sliding surface (PIDSS) are designed and compared. Findings: For the boost converter with PMDC motor, both simulation and experimentation are exploited. The prototype is built for an 18 W PMDC motor with field programmable gate arrays. The suggested sliding mode with second order improves the robustness of the arrangement under disturbances with a wide range of control. Both the simulation and experimental setup shows satisfactory results. Originality/value: According to software-generated mathematical design and experimental findings, PIDSS exhibits excellent performance with respect to settling speed, steady-state error and peak overshoot. This paper presents the experimental validation of a predictive current control strategy with minimization of the instantaneous reactive input power for a Four-Leg Indirect Matrix Converter (4Leg-IMC). The topology includes an input matrix converter stage, which provides the dc voltage for a four-leg voltage source converter (VSC) output stage. The VSC's fourth leg provides a path for the zero sequence load current. The control technique is based on a finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) strategy, whereby the switching states for the input and output converters are selected by evaluating a predictive cost function. This results in a simpler approach than that seen in other well-known modulation methods, such as three-dimensional space vector modulation (3D-SVM). Positive dc voltage, (a requirement for the safe operation of the IMC) and minimization of the instantaneous input reactive power are obtained, while maintaining good tracking of the load reference currents. Furthermore, soft switching is achieved by synchronizing the state changes in the input stage with the application of zero voltage space vectors in the inverter stage. El Misti volcano, a large and hazardous edifice of the Andean Central Volcanic Zone (CVZ) of southern Peru, consists of four main growth stages. Misti 1 (> 112 ka) is an old stratovolcano partly concealed by two younger stratocones (Misti 2, 112–40 ka; Misti 3, 38–11 ka), capped in turn by a recent summit cone (Misti 4, < 11 ka). In order to gain insights into magma composition controls on eruptive behaviour through time at El Misti, we have conducted a petrological and geochemical study of selected rock samples from the main growth stages of the volcano. Whole rock compositions range from andesite to rhyolite and belong to a medium to high-K calk-alkaline magmatic suite. El Misti samples are characterised by high large-ion lithophile elements, but low concentrations of high field strength elements, and heavy rare earth elements, consistent with a subduction zone setting. The 87 Sr/ 86 Sr (0.70715–0.70882) and 143 Nd/ 144 Nd (0.511983–0.512277) isotope ratios suggest that magma composition is significantly affected by contamination and/or assimilation processes during their evolution, likely due to the presence of thick (65–70 km) continental crust beneath the CVZ in southern Peru. Geochemical evidence indicates that magmatic evolution is mostly controlled by Assimilation–Fractional Crystallisation (AFC) mechanisms. Modelling reveals a mass-assimilated/mass-fractionated ratio (ρ) ≤ 2.2, which suggests an assimilated crust fraction below 14 wt.% on average. Our isotopic data clearly identify the Proterozoic “Charcani gneiss” basement as the main contaminant. Both contamination and assimilation processes peaked at ~ 30 wt.%, during the Misti 3 stage when rhyolites were generated. We ascribe the general depletion in HREE and Y and elevated La/Yb and Sr/Y ratios in El Misti samples to the enrichment of the mantle wedge source of the parental magmas by a felsic melt of adakitic composition and hydrous fluids. Our work highlights that El Misti's magmatic system has remained relatively homogeneous since at least 0.12 Ma, with a marked influence of the contaminating crust in the Late Pleistocene Misti 3 stage, which resulted in highly explosive eruptions. We have reconstructed the eruptive chronology of the Ampato–Sabancaya volcanic complex (Southern Peru) on the basis of extensive fieldwork, and a large dataset of geochronological ( 40 K– 40 Ar, 14 C and 3 He) and geochemical (major and trace element) data. This volcanic complex is composed of two successive edifices that have experienced discontinuous volcanic activity from Middle Pleistocene to Holocene times. The Ampato compound volcano consists of a basal edifice constructed over at least two cone-building stages dated at 450–400 ka and 230–200 ka. After a period of quiescence, the Ampato Upper edifice was constructed firstly during an effusive stage (80–70 ka), and then by the formation of three successive peaks: the Northern, Southern (40–20 ka) and Central cones (20–10 ka). The Southern peak, which is the biggest, experienced large explosive phases, resulting in deposits such as the Corinta plinian fallout. During the Holocene, eruptive activity migrated to the NE and constructed the mostly effusive Sabancaya edifice. This cone comprised many andesitic and dacitic blocky lava flows and a young terminal cone, mostly composed of pyroclastic material. Most samples from the Ampato–Sabancaya define a broad high-K magmatic trend composed of andesites and dacites with a mineral assemblage of plagioclase, amphibole, biotite, ortho- and clino-pyroxene, and Fe–Ti oxides. A secondary trend also exists, corresponding to rare dacitic explosive eruptions (i.e. Corinta fallout and flow deposits). Both magmatic trends are derived by fractional crystallisation involving an amphibole-rich cumulate with variable amounts of upper crustal assimilation. A marked change in the overall eruptive rate has been identified between Ampato (~ 0.1 km 3 /ka) and Sabancaya (0.6–1.7 km 3 /ka). This abrupt change demonstrates that eruptive rates have not been homogeneous throughout the volcano's history. Based on tephrochronologic studies, the Late Holocene Sabancaya activity is characterised by strong vulcanian events, although its erupted volume remained low and only produced a local impact through ash fallout. We have identified at least 6 eruptions during the last 4–5 ka, including the historical AD 1750–1784 and 1987–1998 events. A novel hybrid swarm intelligence algorithm for chaotic system parameter estimation is present. For this purpose, the parameters estimation on Lorenz systems is formulated as a multidimensional problem, and a hybrid approach based on particle swarm optimization with ant colony optimization (PSO–ACO) is implemented to solve this problem. Firstly, the performance of the proposed PSO–ACO algorithm is tested on a set of three representative benchmark functions, and the impact of the parameter settings on PSO–ACO efficiency is studied. Secondly, the parameter estimation is converted into an optimization problem on a three-dimensional Lorenz system. Numerical simulations on Lorenz model and comparisons with results obtained by other algorithms showed that PSO–ACO is a very powerful tool for parameter estimation with high accuracy and low deviations. There is a global trend to reduce emissions from cars through the adoption of other alternatives, such as electric vehicles (EVs). The increasing popularity of EVs has led to a growing demand for electric vehicle chargers. EV chargers are essential for charging the batteries of EVs. Since the EV charger stays connected to the grid for long periods of time to charge the EV battery, it must be able to handle disturbances in the power grid. The goal of this paper is to present an overview of the impact of grid events on EV battery chargers. As well as the impact of grid unbalances on EV chargers, this paper also provides an overview of the impact of grid faults on other, similar power electronics interfaced resources such as PV and energy storage systems. In this paper, the experimental validation of a predictive current control strategy for a four-leg indirect matrix converter is presented. The four-leg indirect matrix converter can supply energy to an unbalanced three-phase load while providing a path for the zero sequence load. The predictive current control technique is based on the optimal selection among the valid switching states of the converter by evaluating a cost function, resulting in a simple approach without the necessity for modulators. Furthermore, zero dc-link current commutation is achieved by synchronizing the state changes in the input stage with the application of a zero-voltage space vector in the inverter stage. This study proposes a finite-state model predictive controller to regulate the load current and balance the DC-link capacitor voltages of a four-leg neutral-point-clamped converter. The discrete-time model of the converter, DC-link, inductive filter, and load is used to predict the future behavior of the load currents and the DC-link capacitor voltages for all possible switching states. The switching state that minimizes the cost function is selected and directly applied to the converter. The cost function is defined to minimize the error between the predicted load currents and their references, as well as to balance the DC-link capacitor voltages. Moreover, the current regulation performance is improved by using a two-step prediction horizon. This paper presents a finite control set model predictive strategy and its application to the load voltage control of two-level four-leg inverters. The proposed approach uses the novel discrete-time model of the inverter and output $LC$ filter in order to predict the variables to be controlled. These predictions are carried out for the 16 switching states of the inverter and are evaluated using a cost function. The switching state that forces the load voltages to be closest to their respective references is chosen and applied to the inverter. The behavior of the predictive controller has been investigated, and the changes to both inductive and capacitive filter parameters have been considered. In order to improve the reliability of the fourth leg as well as the overall inverter efficiency, a solution is proposed, which combines hardware and software reconfigurations. Abstract: Following a fumarolic episode that started six months earlier, the most recent eruptive activity of the Ubinas volcano (south Peru) began on 27 March 2006, intensified between April and October 2006 and slowly declined until December 2009. The chronology of the explosive episode and the extent and composition of the erupted material are documented with an emphasis on ballistic ejecta. A petrological study of the juvenile products allows us to infer the magmatic processes related to the 2006–2009 eruptions of the andesitic Ubinas volcano. The juvenile magma erupted during the 2006 activity shows a homogeneous bulk-rock andesitic composition (56.7–57.6wt.% SiO2), which belongs to a medium- to high-K calc-alkaline series. The mineral assemblage of the ballistic blocks and tephra consists of plagioclase>two-pyroxenes>Fe–Ti oxide and rare olivine and amphibole set in a groundmass of the same minerals with a dacitic composition (66–67wt.% SiO2). Thermo-barometric data, based on two-pyroxene and amphibole stability, records a magma temperature of 998±14°C and a pressure of 476±36MPa. Widespread mineralogical and textural features point to a disequilibrium process in the erupted andesite magma. These features include inversely zoned “sieve textures” in plagioclase, inversely zoned clinopyroxene, and olivine crystals with reaction and thin overgrowth rims. They indicate that the pre-eruptive magmatic processes were dominated by recharge of a hotter mafic magma into a shallow reservoir, where magma mingling occurred and triggered the eruption. Prior to 2006, a probable recharge of a mafic magma produced strong convection and partial homogenization in the reservoir, as well as a pressure increase and higher magma ascent rate after four years of fumarolic activity. Mafic magmas do not prevail in the Ubinas pre-historical lavas and tephras. However, mafic andesites have been erupted during historical times (e.g. AD 1667 and 2006–2009 vulcanian eruptions). While the classical control techniques for three-phase two-level four-leg inverters are based on pulsewidth modulation or 3-D space vector modulation, this paper presents a simple digital current control strategy without the modulation stage. The proposed controller uses the discrete nature of the four-leg inverter and filter to generate the switching states. Using a predictive cost function, the optimal switching state to be applied in the next sampling interval is selected. The proposed controller offers excellent reference tracking with less current harmonic distortion for balanced and unbalanced loading conditions. This paper describes the experimental implementation of the model predictive current control algorithm for a two-level four-leg inverter operating under balanced, unbalanced, and nonlinear loading conditions. The proposed scheme is designed to predict the future behavior of the load currents for each of the 16 possible switching states of the converter. The control method chooses a switching state that minimizes the error between the output currents and their references. In this paper, a simple model predictive current control strategy is proposed for four-leg inverters to deliver power to the (un)balanced/(non)linear loads. Unlike classical control schemes, the proposed method does not require current PI controllers or a complex modulation stage. The discrete-time model of the inverter, filter, and load are used to predict the future behavior of the load currents for each of the 16 possible switching states. A panel spatial approach is adopted to analyze the convergence hypothesis for Bolivia's regional GDP for the period 1988-2011. Two conclusions emerge from our results. First, the speed of convergence to the steady state for the departments of Bolivia fluctuates around 4 % to 7 %. Second, we could not find statistical evidence of spatial dependence, put another way, the speed of convergence of a department does not appear to be affected by the GDP of its neighbors. Matrix converters (MCs) are a very attractive alternative to conventional back-to-back converters with dc links. In this paper, a performance comparison between the well-established space vector modulation (SVM) technique and model predictive control (MPC) is presented for the current regulation in a direct MC. Both methods are analyzed and contrasted through simulation and experimental results. In order to establish their strengths and weaknesses, the assessment is made by measuring and comparing output and input currents and voltages with the same voltage source and load current conditions. The effects of partial shading or dust accumulation on the panels of photovoltaic systems connected to the grid can generate a considerable reduction in energy performance, being necessary to provide the appropriate voltage to the grid regardless of the irradiance level. This paper addresses this problem and presents a comprehensive control strategy and its implementation for a grid-connected microinverter composed of a push–pull converter followed by an H-bridge inverter. In the push–pull converter, a hybrid MPPT algorithm and a PI control enable work in the MPP of the PV panel. In the H-bridge inverter, a cascade control consisting of a PI control and a predictive control allows the connection to the grid. A proof-of-concept prototype is implemented in order to validate the proposal. Experimental tests were performed by connecting the microinverter to a PV panel and a programmable photovoltaic panel emulator to check the MPPT performance. Furthermore, partial shading conditions were simulated on the dc source to check if the global maximum power point is reached. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the topology and the control approach, obtaining MPPT performance in the topology above 99% at different power and voltage levels on the MPPT, even in the presence of partial shading conditions. Abstract: We introduce the curvature as a new free parameter in the Bayesian analysis using SNIa, BAO and CMB data, in a model with variable equation of state parameter . We compare the results using both the Constitution and Union 2 data sets, and also study possible low redshift transitions in the deceleration parameter . We found that, incorporating in the analysis, it is possible to make all the three observational probes consistent using both SNIa data sets. Our results support dark energy evolution at small redshift, and show that the tension between small and large redshift probes is ameliorated. However, although the tension decreases, it is still not possible to find a consensus set of parameters that fit all the three data set using the Chevalier–Polarski–Linder CPL parametrization. A new strategy for matrix converters which allows optimal control of source and load currents is presented in this paper. This method uses the commutation state of the converter in the subsequent sampling time, according to an optimization algorithm given by the discrete system model and a simple cost function. The control goals include regulation of output current using an arbitrary reference and good tracking of the source current to its reference, to achieve a sinusoidal waveform. Abstract: Ubinas volcano is located 75km East of Arequipa and ca. 5000 people are living within 12km from the summit. This composite cone is considered the most active volcano in southern Peru owing to its 24 low to moderate magnitude (VEI 1–3) eruptions in the past 500years. The onset of the most recent eruptive episode occurred on 27 March 2006, following 8months of heightened fumarolic activity. Vulcanian explosions occurred between 14 April 2006 and September 2007, at a time ejecting blocks up to 40cm in diameter to distances of 2km. Ash columns commonly rose to 3.5km above the caldera rim and dispersed fine ash and aerosols to distances of 80km between April 2006 and April 2007. Until April 2007, the total volume of ash was estimated at 0.004km3, suggesting that the volume of fresh magma was small. Ash fallout has affected residents, livestock, water supplies, and crop cultivation within an area of ca. 100km2 around the volcano. Continuous degassing and intermittent mild vulcanian explosions lasted until the end of 2008. Shortly after the initial explosions on mid April 2006 that spread ash fallout within 7km of the volcano, an integrated Scientific Committee including three Peruvian institutes affiliated to the Regional Committee of Civil Defense for Moquegua, aided by members of the international cooperation, worked together to: i) elaborate and publish volcanic hazard maps; ii) inform and educate the population; and iii) advise regional authorities in regard to the management of the volcanic crisis and the preparation of contingency plans. Although the 2006–2008 volcanic crisis has been moderate, its management has been a difficult task even though less than 5000 people now live around the Ubinas volcano. However, the successful management has provided experience and skills to the scientific community. This volcanic crisis was not the first one that Peru has experienced but the 2006–2008 experience is the first long-lasting crisis that the Peruvian civil authorities have had to cope with, including attempts to utilize a new alert-level scheme and communications system, and the successful evacuation of 1150 people. The operation of single-phase Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) is analyzed in the paper. A mathematical model of the converter is developed and described, based on which the structure and selection of parameters for Classical Control and Optimal Switching State Model Predictive Control (OSS-MPC) are defined. Additionally, the procedure for the determination of circuit parameters, such as submodule capacitance and arm inductance, is described and carried out. The listed control methods are designed and evaluated in Virtual Hardware-in-the-Loop together with single-phase MMC power circuit, regarding three control objectives: AC current control, voltage balancing control and circulating current control. Control methods are evaluated for both steady-state and transient performance and compared based on nine criteria: AC current reference tracking, THD of AC current and voltage, submodule capacitor voltage balancing, total submodule voltage control, circulating current magnitude and THD, number of control parameters and computational complexity. This is the first time that a fair comparison between Classical Control and MPC is considered in literature, resulting in superior performance of both control methods regarding four different criteria and the same performance regarding AC current reference tracking. Understanding the links between the magma differentiation processes, the magma plumbing system and the magma composition at arc volcanoes is of paramount importance for volcanic hazard assessment. In this work we focus on the post-glacial, Holocene, historical, and recent eruption products of Ubinas volcano (Peru), which display an overall decrease in silica content from the older, plinian (VEI 3–5), rhyolitic eruptions (69–71 wt% SiO 2) to the historical and recent (2006–2009, 2013–2017), vulcanian (VEI 1–2) basaltic andesitic eruptions (55–57 wt% SiO 2). Based on a comprehensive study of the major and trace elements and the Sr-Nd-Pb isotopes, we conclude that this temporal pattern reflects the evolution of the Ubinas magmas in the middle-to-upper crust by a coupled Assimilation-Fractional Crystallization (AFC) process involving a cumulate composed of plagioclase, amphibole, clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene and Fe–Ti oxides, with minor amounts of olivine and biotite at the mafic and felsic end-members, respectively. Upper crustal assimilation is limited to 5–8 vol%, but the overall radiogenic Sr-Nd-Pb signature of the Ubinas magmas requires a larger crustal component, which must therefore occur at middle to lower crustal depths. The petrology of the Ubinas magmas also points to an overall increase in P-T conditions: the large Holocene dacitic and rhyolitic eruptions record temperatures ranging from 800 to 850 °C and pressures in the range of 200–400 MPa, whereas the historical and recent (2006–2009, 2013–2017) basaltic andesitic eruptions provide higher temperatures and pressures (1000 °C, >300–400 MPa). Overall, the thermo-barometry, phase equilibrium and geochemical constraints allow us to propose the existence of a middle-to-upper crust magma column composed of a highly crystalline magma mush containing batches of liquid magma, which seems to be continually recharged from deeper levels. On the basis of the petrological nature of the historical basaltic andesitic eruptions (1667 CE , 2006–2009, 2013–2017), we postulate that during the last centuries, Ubinas experienced a recharge-dominated process, with no evidence for a rejuvenation of the silica-rich reservoir that fed the large Holocene dacitic to rhyolitic eruptions. The single-phase matrix converter is an AC-AC power topology which consists of six bidirectional switches and it is considered the key unit in cascade or multilevel configurations. In this paper, a comparison between two control techniques is presented, one based on a proportional-integral-derivative control module with a pulse width modulator, and the other known as finite-state model predictive control. Microgrids need control and management at different levels to allow the inclusion of renewable energy sources. In this paper, a comprehensive literature review is presented to analyse the latest trends in research and development referring to the applications of predictive control in microgrids. As a result of this review, it was found that the application of predictive control techniques on microgrids is performed for the three control levels and with adaptations of the models in order to include uncertainties to improve their performance and dynamics response. In addition, to ensure system stability, but also, at higher control levels, coordinated operation among the microgrid's components and synchronised and optimised operation with utility grids and electric power markets. We reconstruct the eruptive chronology of the Yucamane–Calientes compound volcano in southern Peru based on extensive fieldwork and a large dataset of geochronological (K-Ar, 40Ar/39Ar, U-Pb, and 14C) and geochemical (major and trace element) analyses. This compound volcano is composed of two edifices that have experienced discontinuous volcanic activity from the middle Pleistocene to the Holocene. The Calientes volcano has been constructed in four successive stages: Calientes I is composed of andesitic lava flows dated at ~500 ka. Subsequently, the Callazas ignimbrite (Calientes II stage) was emplaced ~160–190 ka, followed by the main cone-building stage (Calientes III) at ~130–100 ka. Finally, the Holocene Calientes domes were emplaced and represent the last eruptive products of this edifice. The Yucamane volcano has been constructed in three stages: Yucamane I consists of a succession of andesitic lava flows exposed at the base of the volcano that are older than 40 ka. Yucamane II (~36–30 ka) comprises a thick sequence of block-and-ash-flow deposits that represents an episode of dome growth predating the younger Yucamane cone (Yucamane III) built after 20–25 ka. During the Holocene, Yucamane vulcanian to sub-Plinian activity has emplaced tephra-fall and pyroclastic-density-current deposits. The most recent explosive eruptions occurred ca. 3000 BP and emplaced a tephra-fall and pumice-flow deposits. Most samples from Calientes volcano are andesites and dacites (60.1–67.7 wt% SiO 2), while rocks from Yucamane volcano are basaltic-andesites to dacites (53.4–66.9 wt% SiO 2). The rocks have a mineral assemblage of plagioclase, amphibole, biotite, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, olivine, and Fe-Ti oxides. The analyzed samples are categorized within a high-K, calc-alkaline series. Calientes volcano erupted mostly andesitic magmas, but its history is punctuated by rare eruptions of silica-rich magmas. In contrast, Yucamane volcano follows a different trend characterized by a gradual decrease in silica content through post-glacial time, from the large (VEI 3) sub-Plinian andesitic eruption of ~3 ka to moderate (VEI ≤ 2) vulcanian eruptions of basaltic-andesitic. We investigate ten of the most recent tephra-fall deposits emplaced between ≤21 and 2 ka from the Pacheco stage of Misti volcano, Peru, to elucidate magma dynamics and explosive eruption triggers related to magma storage, recharge, and remobilization. Whole-rock, glass, and mineral textures and compositions indicate the presence of broadly felsic, intermediate, and mafic magmas in a chemically and thermally stratified magma storage system (Zones 1–3) that interact to differing extents prior to eruption. Intermediate magmas are defined by plagioclase + amphibole + two-pyroxenes + Fe-Ti oxides and phase equilibria indicate they formed at ~300 to 600 MPa and ~950°C to 1000°C. Intermediate magmas dominate the Pacheco stage and either erupted alone as hybridized magmas or mingled with minor volumes of cool felsic magmas (~800°C) in which only plagioclase + Fe-Ti oxides are stable. Felsic magmas do not exclusively comprise any tephra-fall deposit emplaced during the Pacheco stage but were remobilized by recharge and mixing with intermediate magmas in order to erupt. Furthermore, felsic-hosted amphibole cognate to the intermediate magmas are reacted despite the felsic magmas being water saturated, which suggests they are staged above the amphibole stability limit (≤200 MPa). The cryptic presence of mafic magmas is indicated by high-An plagioclase cores (An74–88), rare anhedral olivine (Fo77–80), and possibly high Mg# augite and amphibole (up to Mg# 84 and 77, respectively). The dearth of basalt to basaltic andesite melts recorded in erupted glasses and exclusivity of high-An plagioclase to crystal cores signals mafic magmas are staged deeper in the crust than the intermediate magmas. Periodic interactions between these magmas tracked via glass compositions and crystal exchange reveal an alternation between the production of mingled magmas and their eruption shortly after a recharge event, followed by a period of homogenization and eruption of hybridized magmas. As such, we identify magma recharge as a key mechanism by which half of the explosive eruptions were triggered in the Pacheco stage. A >100°C increase in Misti's fumarole temperatures from 1967 to 2018 coincident with changes in fumarolic gas compositions is consistent with degassing of a mafic recharge magma, signaling that Misti could produce similar explosive eruptions in the future. Pulse width modulation (PWM) strategies for the control of asymmetrical six-phase drives have been widely studied since the beginning of this century. Nevertheless, space vector modulation (SVM) techniques with multifrequency voltage injection for the control of all the degrees of freedom of the multiphase model is still a subject under research. This paper deals with this topic and introduces a generalised PWM method for a two-level voltage source converters. The architecture was derived by extending a three-phase modulator proposed as an alternative to the widely studied SVM. The proposal computes the duty times straightforwardly with a fast algorithm based on an analytical solution of the voltage-time modulation law. Theoretical derivations supported by experimental results demonstrate the proper synthesis of the multifrequency target voltage in the linear modulation region as well as good frequency behaviour of the presented modulation strategy. This paper presents a new control strategy using model-based predictive current control (MB-PCC) for a doubly fed induction machine (DFIM) driven by an indirect matrix converter (IMC). This strategy proposes the control of rotor currents, whose references are calculated from active and reactive stator power set points and the dynamic model of the DFIM. The control strategy works well in the four P-Q operating regions of the DFIM. The grid synchronization process is carried out by setting the P-Q power set points to zero. The results include the DFIM synchronization procedure as well as the active and reactive power control at variable shaft speed to validate the feasibility of the proposed strategy. Tropical climates have favorable irradiation levels for the development of photovoltaic systems; however, high temperatures have a negative impact on the efficiency of solar cells. Since direct measurement of cell temperature is not common, mathematical models are needed to make predictions. Numerous models have been documented, highlighting the challenge of applying a universal model to different climatic conditions. The main contribution of this study is the proposal of a metaheuristic algorithm to accurately compute the temperature of solar cells. This method is simple and effective in exploring numerous potential states of the reference parameters (i.e., irradiance and ambient temperature). Data collected over a 23-month period in two photovoltaic installations with an output power of 2.2 MW of multicrystalline silicon technology were used to develop the proposed method and validate it. The proposed model was compared with 19 previously reported models in the literature. Compared to the model recommended by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC Standard 61215-1), the mean square error, mean absolute error (MAE) and mean absolute percentage error were reduced by 4.9, 4.8, and 2.4 times, respectively. The accuracy of the proposed method is demonstrated by MAE errors ranging from 0.56 ° C to 1.88 ° C , obtained by considering three different daily profiles of irradiance and ambient temperature. Most of the nitrogen (N) accessible for life is trapped in dinitrogen (N2), the most stable atmospheric molecule. In order to be metabolized by living organisms, N2 has to be converted into biologically assimilable forms, so-called fixed N. Nowadays, nearly all the N-fixation is achieved through biological and anthropogenic processes. However, in early prebiotic environments of the Earth, N-fixation must have occurred via natural abiotic processes. One of the most invoked processes is electrical discharges, including from thunderstorms and lightning associated with volcanic eruptions. Despite the frequent occurrence of volcanic lightning during explosive eruptions and convincing laboratory experimentation, no evidence of substantial N-fixation has been found in any geological archive. Here, we report on the discovery of a significant amount of nitrate in volcanic deposits from Neogene caldera-forming eruptions, which are well correlated with the concentrations of species directly emitted by volcanoes (sulfur, chlorine). The multi-isotopic composition (δ18O, Δ17O) of the nitrates reveals that they originate from the atmospheric oxidation of nitrogen oxides formed by volcanic lightning. According to these first geological volcanic nitrate archive, we estimate that, on average, about 60 Tg of N can be fixed during a large explosive event. Our findings hint at a unique role potentially played by subaerial explosive eruptions in supplying essential ingredients for the emergence of life on Earth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Dual–Vector model predictive control (DV–MPC) method can improve the steady–state control performance of motor drives compared to using the single–vector method in one switching cycle. However, this performance enhancement generally increases the computational burden due to the exponential increase in the number of vector selections, lowering the system's dynamic response. Alternatively, limiting the vector combinations will sacrifice system steady–state performance. To address this issue, this paper proposes an enhanced DV–MPC method that can determine the optimal vector combinations along with their duration time within minimized calculation times. Compared to the existing DV–MPC methods, the proposed enhanced technique can achieve excellent steady–state performance while maintaining a low computational burden. A recent study published in Clinical & Translational Medicine examined the effects of polymerised type I collagen (PTIC) on the physiological recovery process from post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) in different genders. The study found that PTIC reduced hyperinflammation associated with COVID-19 and led to a decrease in the correlation between physiological networks at baseline and post-treatment days. Women in the PTIC group exhibited a stronger response and faster recovery compared to men.
