Simple Summary: Laryngeal squamous cell carcinomas (LSCC) are the third most common type of head and neck cancer. Approximately 40% of LSCC cases present with locally advanced carcinomas at diagnosis. The poor prognosis is mainly attributed to late diagnosis. Biomarkers capable of predicting LSCC at early stages are needed. We identified and validated exosomal insulin-like growth factor binding protein 7 (IGFBP7) and Annexin A1 (ANXA1) as promising exosomal biomarkers for LSCC detection. Background: The lack of screening methods for LSCC is a critical issue, as treatment options and the treatment outcome greatly depend on the stage of LSCC at initial diagnosis. Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify potential exosomal serum biomarkers that can diagnose LSCC and distinguish between early- and late-stage disease. Methods: A multiplexed proteomic array was used to identify differentially expressed proteins in exosomes isolated from the serum samples of LSCC patients compared to the control group (septorhinoplasty, SRP). The most promising proteins for diagnosis and differentiation were calculated using biostatistical methods and were validated by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Western blots (WB), and ELISA. Results: Exosomal insulin-like growth factor binding protein 7 (IGFBP7) and Annexin A1 (ANXA1) were the most promising exosomal biomarkers for distinguishing between control and LSCC patients and also between different stages of LSCC (fold change up to 15.9, p < 0.001 for all). Conclusion: The identified proteins represent potentially novel non-invasive biomarkers. However, these results need to be validated in larger cohorts with a long-term follow-up. Exosomal biomarkers show a superior signal-to-noise ratio compared to whole serum and may therefore be an important tool for non-invasive biomarker profiling for laryngeal carcinoma in the future. Conspiracy theories are particularly prevalent in times of crisis and pose a major threat to democracy. Young people are especially susceptible to conspiracy theories, as this period is characterized by high social vulnerability and constant reflection on one's position in society. However, to date little is known about the determinants of young people's belief in conspiracy theories in general and in times of crisis in particular. In this study, we address this research gap by investigating the belief of young people in Germany (N = 2437, aged 16 to 29) in conspiracy theories about the war in Ukraine. Drawing on Douglas and colleagues’ (2017) taxonomy, we find that epistemic (e.g., political self‐efficacy), existential (e.g., political trust), and social (e.g., social exclusion) motives influence belief in conspiracies about the war among young people. However, while the taxonomy suggests equal influence of the three motives, the effects of feelings of social exclusion on war‐related conspiracy beliefs among youth are mainly mediated by a strong influence of political distrust. In this way, our findings contribute to a better understanding of conspiracy beliefs among young people and highlight the importance of increasing young people's political trust to prevent the spread of conspiracy theories. Satellite and sensor-based systems of site-specific fertilization have been developed almost exclusively in conventional farming. Agronomic and ecological advantages can also be expected from these digital methods in organic farming. However, it has not yet been investigated whether the algorithms and models are also applicable under organic farming conditions. In this study, the digital data and systems tested in the years 2021 and 2022 in southern Germany were (a) reflectance measurements with a tractor-mounted multispectral sensor, calculation of the vegetation index REIP, and application of algorithms; (b) satellite data in combination with the plant growth model PROMET; and (c) determination of the vegetation index NDVI based on satellite data. They were used to determine plant parameters (crop yield, biomass potential) and to calculate nitrogen balances at a high spatial resolution (10 × 10 m). The digital systems were tested at two sites with different organic farming systems (arable farming and dairy farming). Validation of the digital methods was carried out with ground-truth data from manual biomass sampling and combine harvester yield measurement. The nitrate leaching risk from the crop rotations of the farms was analyzed via site-specific N balancing using multi-year satellite data. The N balances were validated by measuring nitrate concentrations in leakage water. Additionally, soil properties, such as soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (TN), were measured at the sub-field level. Using geostatistics, plant data, soil properties, and nitrate measurements were transferred into grids of the same resolution to enable correlation analyses. The correlations between yield determined with digital systems and the validation data were up to r = 0.77. Site-specific N balancing showed moderately positive correlations with nitrate concentrations in leakage water (r = 0.50–0.66). The strongly positive influence of the soil properties SOC and TN on crop yields underlines the importance of soil organic matter on soil fertility and site-specific yield potentials. The results show that digital methods allow the spatially high-resolution determination of yields and nitrogen balances in organic farming. This can be the basis for new management strategies in organic farming, e.g., the targeted use of limited nutrients to increase yields. In this study, the spatial variability of nitrogen (N) balances and potential nitrate leaching were determined in heterogeneous arable fields in southern Germany using digital methods (tractor-mounted multispectral sensor, satellite data, vegetation indices and models) and measurements of nitrate stocks in deeper zones (1−2.5 m soil depth) with deep drilling. The aim of this study was to achieve precise localisation of N losses at high spatial resolution (sub field level; 10 × 10 m grid). The spatial variability of plant parameters within uniformly fertilised fields (crop yield, N uptake) was determined for the calculation of the N balances. The spatial variability of soil properties (e.g. soil organic carbon content, soil total nitrogen content) were determined to identify the causes of high or low N surpluses and nitrate leaching in sub-fields. N surplus determined using different digital methods and measured nitrate stocks showed similar spatial patterns. Site-specific N balancing identified zones with high N loss potential (N surplus up to 86 kg ha−1). Deep drilling showed zones with high nitrate loss (nitrate N up to 94 kg ha−1). N surplus and nitrate loss correlated with r = 0.49. This relationship could be impacted by many other soil and management factors. Soil properties showed considerable spatial variation within the fields. Soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil total nitrogen (TN) content were closely correlated in all fields (up to r = 0.96) and were most closely positively correlated with crop yield and N uptake (up to r = 0.74) and negatively correlated with N surplus (up to r = − 0.73). The sensor data and satellite data (crop yield, N uptake, N surplus) showed similar distribution patterns. Based on these results, digital technologies are suitable for the calculation of site-specific N surplus and estimation of nitrate leaching risk. Satellite or sensor based site-specific and yield-oriented fertilization is one approach to reduce N surplus on sub fields with low yield potential and high nitrate leaching risk. International organizations and their secretariats, called international public administrations (IPAs), have been found to hold considerable authority in world politics. This study conceptualizes and measures IPA authority in the digital sphere. It proposes the concept of digital authority to measure the authority of actors in online social networks (OSN), such as Twitter. Applying exponential random graph models (ERGMs) based on Twitter data during climate change negotiations the article compares the authority of IPAs to that of other actors. This study describes a new method for satellite-based remote sensing analysis of plant-specific biomass yield patterns for precision farming applications. The relative biomass potential (rel. BMP) serves as an indicator for multiyear stable and homogeneous yield zones. The rel. BMP is derived from satellite data corresponding to specific growth stages and the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) to analyze crop-specific yield patterns. The development of this methodology is based on data from arable fields of two research farms; the validation was conducted on arable fields of commercial farms in southern Germany. Close relationships (up to r > 0.9) were found between the rel. BMP of different crop types and study years, indicating stable yield patterns in arable fields. The relative BMP showed moderate correlations (up to r = 0.64) with the yields determined by the combine harvester, strong correlations with the vegetation index red edge inflection point (REIP) (up to r = 0.88, determined by a tractor-mounted sensor system) and moderate correlations with the yield determined by biomass sampling (up to r = 0.57). The study investigated the relationship between the rel. BMP and key soil parameters. There was a consistently strong correlation between multiyear rel. BMP and soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (TN) contents (r = 0.62 to 0.73), demonstrating that the methodology effectively reflects the impact of these key soil properties on crop yield. In recent years, teachers around the world have been increasingly confronted with various expectations concerning the improvement of their classroom practices and school activities. One factor widely acknowledged to facilitate school and classroom improvement is a strong collaborative culture among teachers. As such, teachers are expected to work in teacher teams, to collaborate closely with colleagues, to co-construct classroom practices, and thus to strengthen trust relationships within the team. A growing number of researchers has analyzed how teachers address these expectations. They suggest that there is a link between teachers' embeddedness in collaboration networks and teachers' trust relationships. The present study seeks to contribute to the research literature by presenting results of Social Network Analyses (SNA) and exponential random graph models (ERGMs) on teacher collaboration in nine secondary schools in Germany (N = 366 teachers). We investigate how the involvement of teachers in co-constructive collaboration in schools, measured by the amount of team teaching (TT), relates to teachers' trust levels. Results of our analyses suggest that a high amount of TT is not necessarily related to a higher degree of trust among teachers at the school level. However, a high involvement of teachers in TT is related positively to their being perceived as trustworthy. Furthermore, the emergence of trust relations in teacher networks depends on general network characteristics, such as homophily, reciprocity and transitivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has brought about extensive education policy reforms towards inclusive education in many countries around the world. At the same time, it has been observed that intergovernmental organisations and non-state actors have been extensively involved in establishing these reforms. To better understand the roles of these actors in this field, we conducted a systematic literature review combined with network visualisation techniques. Specifically, we applied the policy cycle framework to analyse peer-reviewed articles published between 2006 and 2020 on the implementation of inclusive education and the roles of intergovernmental and non-state actors therein. The systematisation of findings from the studies included in our review indicates that inter- and non-governmental organisations are the dominant actor groups, which become involved through the provision of capacity development support and implementation in practice. At the same time, researchers and experts are becoming increasingly involved at different stages of the policy cycle, from policy formulation, to capacity development, to implementation in practice. Overall, our results provide a comprehensive picture of intergovernmental and non-state actor involvement in inclusive education and can contribute to a better understanding of implementation processes in the field of inclusive education. With the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), inclusive education has become the main alternative to special schools for the schooling of children with disabilities. In order to promote the global implementation of inclusive education, a variety of stakeholders form networks to transmit and exchange information and knowledge concerning political strategies. However, little is known about the actors and actor groups involved in these networks. In the present paper, we draw on general network theory and policy network theory to examine the Twitter communication network that has formed around the topic of inclusive education. Using exploratory and inferential social network analysis, we show that disabled persons' organizations and international organizations, such as the United Nations, hold a particularly central position in the network. This position enables them to potentially exert influence on the content and flow of information within the network. Aside from that, business actors are active participants in the network. Moreover, the Twitter network shows some structural patterns that can also be found in policy networks. Our findings help to map the global sphere of inclusive education promotion and can contribute to a broader understanding of global processes in inclusive education policy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• Youth participate in global networks to influence international climate negotiations. • Youth oppose established institutions such as international organisations or schools. • Previous approaches are limited in explaining transnational forms of youth participation. • Youth actors tend to bridge between different groups in transnational policy networks. • Integrating policy network theories into youth participation concepts can contribute to a broader understanding of transnational youth participation. This study implements a mixed methods design based on social network analysis to analyse activities related to the participation of youth in international negotiations on climate change. We show that the participation of youth is, on the one hand, actively promoted by international organisations. On the other hand, youth form transnational social movements and explicitly oppose (inter)national organisations. Using social network analysis, we show that youth from both the Global North and the Global South can be identified as being central in these transnational networks, with those from the Global South focusing on bridging between different groups. Cannabinoids produce antinociception via specific cannabinoid receptor activation, but there are also non-receptor mediated effects like for example the activation of the arachidonic acid cascade. Here we investigate the influence of cannabinoids (CB) on sleep duration after isoflurane anesthesia. We found that the CB receptor agonists R(−)-7-hydroxy-delta-6-tetra-hydrocannabinol-dimethylheptyl (HU-210) (0.1 mg/kg), 2-O-arachidonoylglycerylether (30 mg/kg) and arachidonyl-2-chloroethylamide (3 mg/kg) significantly prolong the duration of isoflurane induced sleep in mice (P<0.05). This effect was absent when co-injecting the selective CB1 antagonist N-(piperidin-1-yl)-5-(4-iodophenyl)-1-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-4-methyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxamide (1 mg/kg). Furthermore, HU-210 was ineffective in CB1 receptor knockout mice (CB1−/−). Our behavioral tests (tail flick, rotarod) indicate that the sleep latency can be prolonged even at low drug dosages which do not influence thermal nociception. In the chosen dosages thimerosal (20 mg/kg), 2-AG (10 mg/kg), R1-methanandamide (R1-MAEA) (10 mg/kg) and flurbiprofen (27 mg/kg) were ineffective to increase sleep duration. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

This study examines teacher collaboration in nine German schools to identify factors that explain the structure of teacher networks in relation to specific types of collaboration and schools' structural environment. Using inferential network analysis, we find that teachers' individual attributes are important for collaboration in schools with basic collaborative environments, and for the exchange of material. By contrast, in schools with well-established collaborative structures, ties are formed predominantly based on prior relations. Our findings emphasize the importance of collaborative structures to lower the barrier for individual teachers to engage in collaboration and to bring together colleagues from different backgrounds. • Self-organizing structural processes influence the emergence of teacher networks. • Teachers tend to collaborate with similar colleagues. • Teacher networks differ according to specific forms of collaboration and schools' structural environment. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of drug-eluting balloons (DEBs) in the treatment of long infrapopliteal lesions with regard to the short-term restenosis rate and midterm clinical result. Background: Restenosis rates of long-segment tibial artery disease are very high. Recently, a restenosis rate of 69% at 3 months after standard balloon angioplasty was demonstrated. Methods: Infrapopliteal angioplasty was performed with a paclitaxel-eluting balloon (In.Pact Amphirion, Medtronic, Minneapolis, Minnesota). Clinical and angiographic follow-up was performed at 3 months to detect binary restenosis, and further clinical assessment was performed over a 12-month period thereafter. Results: In 104 patients, 109 limbs were treated for critical limb ischemia (82.6%) or severe claudication (17.4%). Mean lesion length of the arteries treated was 176 ± 88 mm. Angiography studied in 84 treated arteries at 3 months showed a restenosis in 27.4% (19.1% had restenosis of more than 50%, and 8.3% were totally occluded) and usually occurred focally. Only in 9.5% of all angiographically followed up arteries was the entire treated segment restenosed or reoccluded. During a follow-up period of 378 ± 65 days, 1 patient was lost and 17 died. Of the 91 limbs remaining in the analysis, clinical improvement was present in 83 (91.2%). Complete wound healing occurred in 74.2%, whereas major amputation occurred in 4 patients, resulting in limb salvage of 95.6% for patients with critical limb ischemia. Conclusions: The early restenosis rate of long-segment infrapopliteal disease is significantly lower after treatment with DEBs compared with historical data using uncoated balloons. Randomized trials are required to show whether this difference will lead to improvement in clinical outcomes. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
