• The PSH model significantly decreased postoperative pain scores and opioid use in children undergoing PSF for AIS. • The PSH shortened the length of hospital stay by more than 1 day. • As it improved pain related outcomes, the PSH should be considered an accepted approach to care for these children [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
