Background and purpose: The association of water loading with several infections remains unclear. Observational studies are hard to investigate definitively due to potential confounders. In this study, we employed Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to assess the association between genetically predicted whole body water mass (BWM) and several infections. Methods: BWM levels were predicted among 331,315 Europeans in UK Biobank using 418 SNPs associated with BWM. For outcomes, we used genome-wide association data from the UK Biobank and FinnGen consortium, including sepsis, pneumonia, intestinal infections, urinary tract infections (UTIs) and skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs). Inverse-variance weighted MR analyses as well as a series of sensitivity analyses were conducted. Results: Genetic prediction of BWM is associated with an increased risk of sepsis (OR 1.34; 95% CI 1.19 to 1.51; P = 1.57 × 10− 6), pneumonia (OR: 1.17; 95% CI 1.08 to 1.29; P = 3.53 × 10− 4), UTIs (OR: 1.26; 95% CI 1.16 to 1.37; P = 6.29 × 10− 8), and SSTIs (OR: 1.57; 95% CI 1.25 to 1.96; P = 7.35 × 10− 5). In the sepsis and pneumonia subgroup analyses, the relationship between BWM and infection was observed in bacterial but not in viral infections. Suggestive evidence suggests that BWM has an effect on viral intestinal infections (OR: 0.86; 95% CI 0.75 to 0.99; P = 0.03). There is limited evidence of an association between BWM levels and bacteria intestinal infections, and genitourinary tract infection (GUI) in pregnancy. In addition, MR analyses supported the risk of BWM for several edematous diseases. However, multivariable MR analysis shows that the associations of BWM with sepsis, pneumonia, UTIs and SSTIs remains unaffected when accounting for these traits. Conclusions: In this study, the causal relationship between BWM and infectious diseases was systematically investigated. Further prospective studies are necessary to validate these findings. Lattice metamaterials based on three-period minimum surface (TPMS) are an effective means to achieve lightweight and high-strength materials which are widely used in various fields such as aerospace and ships. However, its vibration and noise reduction, and damping properties have not been fully studied. Therefore, in this study, the TPMS structures with parameterization were designed by the method of surface migration, and the TPMS structures with high forming quality was manufactured by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). The mechanical properties and energy absorption characteristics of the beam and TPMS structures were studied and compared by quasi-static compression. The modal shapes of the beam lattice structures and TPMS structures were obtained by the free modal analysis, and the damping properties of two structures were obtained by modal tests. For the two structures after heat treatment with the same porosity of 70%, the yield strength of the beam lattice structure reaches 40.76 MPa, elastic modulus is 20.38 GPa, the energy absorption value is 32.23 MJ·m-3, the damping ratio is 0.52%. The yield strength, elastic modulus, energy absorption value, and damping ratio of the TPMS structure are 50.74 MPa, 25.37 GPa, 47.34 MJ·m-3, and 0.99%, respectively. The results show that TPMS structures exhibit more excellent mechanical properties and energy absorption, better damping performance, and obvious advantages in structural load and vibration and noise reduction compared with the beam lattice structures under the same porosity. Cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome (CHS) is a critical complication in patients who underwent carotid artery stenting (CAS). We sought to explore neurosonological parameters and additional risk factors associated with CHS in patients following CAS and further to develop a prediction model for CHS after CAS. A total of 197 patients who underwent CAS were included in this observational study. All patients were divided into CHS and non-CHS groups. Demographic, clinical, treatment, and laboratory data were extracted from electronic medical records. Logistic regression analysis and nomogram listing were used to build a CHS prediction model. Machine learning algorithms with five-fold cross-validation were used to further validate the CHS prediction model. Twenty-two patients had clinically manifested CHS. Four parameters were detected as risk factors associated with CHS, including effective collateral circulation (P = 0.046), asymmetry ratio of peak systolic velocity of the middle cerebral artery (P = 0.001), severe stenosis or occlusion of the contralateral carotid artery (P = 0.010), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P = 0.025). The area under the curve for the prediction model of CHS in the cohort was 0.835 (95% confidence interval 0.760–0.909). In this study, CHS following CAS was associated with effective collateral circulation, ARP, contralateral ICA severe stenosis or occlusion, as well as low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Subsequently, the CHS prediction model for CAS was built, which has the potential to facilitate tailored and precise management as well as treatment strategies for patients at high risk of CHS. Background: In randomized controlled trials, Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir (NMV/r) and Molnupiravir (MPV) reduced the risk of severe/fatal COVID-19 disease. Real-world data are limited, particularly studies directly comparing the two agents. Methods: Using the VA National COVID-19 database, we identified previously uninfected, non-hospitalized individuals with COVID-19 with ≥1 risk factor for disease progression who were prescribed either NMV/r or MPV within 3 days of a positive test. We used inverse probability of treatment weights (IPTW) to account for providers' preferences for a specific treatment. Absolute risk difference (ARD) with 95% confidence intervals were determined for those treated with NMV/r vs. MPV. The primary outcome was hospitalization or death within 30 days of treatment prescription using the IPTW approach. Analyses were repeated using propensity-score matched groups. Results: Between January 1 and November 30, 2022, 9,180 individuals were eligible for inclusion (6,592 prescribed NMV/r; 2,454 prescribed MPV). The ARD for hospitalization/death for NMV/r vs MPV was -0.25 (95% CI -0.79 to 0.28). There was no statistically significant difference in ARD among strata by age, race, comorbidities, or symptoms at baseline. Kaplan-Meier curves did not demonstrate a difference between the two groups (p-value = 0.6). Analysis of the propensity-score matched cohort yielded similar results (ARD for NMV/r vs. MPV -0.9, 95% CI -2.02 to 0.23). Additional analyses showed no difference for development of severe/critical/fatal disease by treatment group. Renewable osmotic energy between seawater and river water shows great potential in meeting global energy demand. Reverse electrodialysis (RED) technique using ion‐selective membrane is particularly outstanding for its easy operation. Preparing low‐cost and large‐area ion‐selective membranes with excellent ion transport characteristics is particularly important to promote commercial applications. Herein, large‐area ion‐selective membrane is prepared by scraping slurry of flocculated GO (graphene oxide)/PAAS (sodium polyacrylate) solution and then coated with PVA (polyvinyl alcohol)/SA (sodium alginate) gel layer. The PVA/SA molecules can penetrate into the membrane through the unique micro/meso‐pores, which together increase the ion selectivity, membrane permeability, and stability. This ion‐selective membrane can achieve a power density of 8.65 W m−2 under a 50‐fold salinity gradient (NaCl) simulating the sea/river junction environment (with the testing area of 0.0314 mm2). This paper presents a direct method for efficiently solving three-dimensional elliptic interface problems featuring piecewise constant coefficients with a finite jump across the interface. A key advantage of our approach lies in its avoidance of augmented variables, distinguishing it from traditional methods. The computational framework relies on a finite difference scheme implemented on a uniform Cartesian grid system. By utilizing a seven-point Laplacian for grid points away from the interface, our method only requires coefficient modifications for grid points located near or on the interface. Numerical experiments validate our method's effectiveness. Generally, it achieves second-order accuracy for both the solution and its gradient, measured in the maximum norm, particularly effective in scenarios with moderate coefficient jumps. Extending and building upon the recent work of [1] on 1D and 2D elliptic interfaces, our approach successfully introduces a simpler method for extension into three dimensions. Accurate and efficient prediction of deformation and residual stress in large metal components manufactured through wire-arc directed energy deposition is essential for optimizing the process parameters and ensuring the quality of the components. The finite element method (FEM) together with the inherent strain concept is a promising approach to solve the problems, but its prediction accuracy requires improvement, especially for the prediction of the residual stress. Motivated by this, a process-based inherent strain method (PISM) is proposed, which can better reflect the layer-wise process of wire-arc directed energy deposition. For one thing, an accumulative effect of the plastic strain, which results from multiple remelting during the sequential deposition process, is taken into account when the inherent strain is calculated and loaded. For another, an additional strain is introduced into the total inherent strain, in order to resolve the continuity conflict of deformation and then to dismiss the unrealistic stress oscillation between the equivalent layers, when a layer lumping method is used. In addition, the idea of decomposing plastic strain into a locally-related part and a structure-related part is proposed, which clarifies the theoretical basis of the inherent strain method for metal additive manufacturing. Numerical examples confirm the necessity for the consideration of the effect of multiple remelting, and the introduction of the additional strain. Comparisons with the predictions by the thermo-elastic–plastic model and the conventional inherent strain method, as well as with the experimental results, verify the validity and accuracy of the present PISM. The theory of special relativity is one of the most significant achievements in modern physics, with several important predictions such as time dilation, size contraction for a moving object, and mass-energy equivalence. Recent studies have demonstrated size contraction for an antiferromagnetic (AFM) domain wall (DW). Here, we show the excitation of terahertz (THz) magnons from a moving AFM DW under the magnetic anisotropy energy gradient. The energy of magnons comes from the loss of the effective DW mass due to the reduction in anisotropy energy. Also, the excitation of THz magnons is accompanied by a DW width broadening, overcoming the Lorentz contraction effect. The high energy density, nickel‐rich layered cathode material LiNi0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2 (NMC811) is recognized as a promising candidate for next‐generation battery chemistries. However, due to their structural and interfacial instability, nickel‐rich NMC cathodes still face a number of challenges in practical application. For this reason, the design and development of novel electrolyte formulations, able to stabilize the nickel‐rich cathode|electrolyte interface, are highly demanded. In this work, a novel electrolyte is developed using lithium (difluoromethanesulfonyl) (trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiDFTFSI) and lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6) as salt blend in an organic carbonate‐solvent based solvent mixture. The presence of LiDFTFSI notably enhances the electrochemical performance of the resulting NMC811||graphite cells. Further advancement of the considered cell chemistry is achieved by introducing the well‐known functional electrolyte additive vinylene carbonate (VC), which was found to feature a synergistic effect with LiDFTFSI. The formation of a homogenous, effective, and robust solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) as well as cathode electrolyte interphase (CEI) on the corresponding electrodes resulted in superior electrochemical performance. Scedosporium apiospermum species complex are widely distributed fungi that can be found in a variety of polluted environments, including soil, sewage, and decaying vegetation. Those opportunistic pathogens with strong potential of invasion commonly affect immunosuppressed populations However, few cases of scedosporiosis are reported in immunocompetent individuals, who might be misdiagnosed, leading to a high mortality rate. Here, we reported an immunocompetent case of systemtic infection involved in lung, brain and spine, caused by S. apiospermum species complex (S. apiospermum and S. boydii). The patient was an elderly male with persistent fever and systemtic infection after near-drowning. In the two tertiary hospitals he visited, definite diagnosis was extremely difficult. After being admitted to our hospital, he was misdiagnosed as tuberculosis infection, before diagnosis of S. apiospermum species complex infection by the metagenomic next-generation sequencing. His symptoms were alleviated after voriconazole treatment. In the present case, the details associated with its course were reported and published studies on Scedosporium spp. infection were also reviewed, for a better understanding of this disease and reducing the misdiagnosis rate. • Genetic prediction of systemic lupus erythematosus is causally associated with preterm labour, and perinatal management should be strengthened. • Genetically predicted rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has a causal effect on several adverse pregnancy outcomes, and active interventions need to be explored further. • More genome-wide association study subgroup data are needed to further promote implementation. The effect of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) on adverse pregnancy outcomes is a controversial topic. This study aimed to use Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to assess the causal relationship between SLE, RA and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Genetic variants for SLE and RA, as well as adverse pregnancy outcomes, were derived from pooled statistics from large public genome-wide association studies. Several methods, such as inverse variance weighting (IVW), MR-Egger, weighted median and MR-Pleiotropic Residuals Sum and Outliers, were employed to estimate two-sample causality. Genetic prediction of SLE was associated with higher odds of preterm labour [odds ratio (OR) 1.03, 95 % confidence interval (CI) 1.01–1.05; p = 0.008]. RA was associated with higher odds of preterm labour (OR 1.03, 95 % CI 1.01–1.06; p = 0.009), pre-eclampsia or eclampsia (OR 1.04, 95 % CI 1.01–1.07; p = 0.005), and poor fetal growth (OR 1.08, 95 % CI 1.04–1.12; p = 2.91 × 10−5). The results of bidirectional MR analysis did not indicate that SLE was associated with spontaneous abortion, pre-eclampsia or eclampsia, preterm rupture of membranes, or poor fetal growth (p- value for IVW 0.13–0.97). This study found a genetic association between SLE and the risk of preterm labour, and highlights the importance of perinatal care and monitoring for patients with SLE. Furthermore, RA was found to be associated with a wide range of adverse outcomes, including preterm labour, pre-eclampsia or eclampsia, and poor fetal growth; as such, there is a need for more intensive therapeutic interventions and prenatal monitoring. Context.-- The recently identified immunohistochemical marker TRPS1 is highly sensitive and specific for invasive breast carcinoma, especially triple-negative breast carcinoma. However, TRPS1 expression in special morphologic subtypes of breast cancer is unclear. Objective.-- To investigate the expression of TRPS1 in invasive breast cancer with apocrine differentiation, in comparison to the expression of GATA3. Design.-- A total of 52 invasive breast carcinomas with apocrine differentiation, comprising 41 triple-negative breast carcinomas and 11 estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR)-negative, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive cases, along with 11 triple-negative breast carcinomas without apocrine differentiation, were evaluated for TRPS1 and GATA3 expression by immunohistochemistry. All tumors were diffusely positive (>90%) for androgen receptor (AR). Results.-- Triple-negative breast carcinoma with apocrine differentiation had positive TRPS1 expression in 12% of cases (5 of 41), whereas GATA3 was positive in all cases. Similarly, HER2+/ER- invasive breast carcinoma with apocrine differentiation showed positive TRPS1 in 18% of cases (2 of 11), whereas GATA3 was positive in all cases. In contrast, triple-negative breast carcinoma with strong AR expression but without apocrine differentiation showed both TRPS1 and GATA3 expression in 100% (11 of 11) of cases. Conclusions.-- Most ER-/PR-/AR+ invasive breast carcinomas with apocrine differentiation are TRPS1 negative and GATA3 positive, regardless of HER2 status. Therefore, TRPS1 negativity does not exclude breast origin in tumors with apocrine differentiation. Numerical modeling of ice sheet motion and hence projections of global sea level rise require information about the evolving subglacial environment, which unfortunately remains largely unknown due to its difficulty of access. Here we advance such subglacial observations by reporting multi‐year observations of seismic tremor likely associated with glacier sliding at Helheim Glacier. This association is confirmed by correlation analysis between tremor power and multiple environmental forcings on different timescales. Variations of the observed tremor power indicate that different factors affect glacial sliding on different timescales. Effective pressure may control glacial sliding on long (seasonal/annual) timescales, while tidal forcing modulates the sliding rate and tremor power on short (hourly/daily) timescales. Polarization results suggest that the tremor source comes from an upstream subglacial ridge. This observation provides insights on how different factors should be included in ice sheet modeling and how their timescales of variability play an essential role. Plain Language Summary: The Greenland Ice Sheet has lost ice increasingly in the past few decades, contributing significantly to global sea level rise. However, large uncertainties remain in computer simulations of such ice mass loss and hence sea level rise. This uncertainly is mainly attributed to the lack of information on what is happening at the bottom of the ice sheet and how that affects ice sheet movement. For example, how much water is there and whether it is in isolated pockets or is well distributed as a thin sheet can have an important effect on ice movement. In this paper, we observe small ground motions that are generated during glacier movement at a marine‐terminating glacier in Greenland. By analyzing the energy variation of the small ground motions over multiple years as well as observing the reasons that cause the variations, we learn that subglacial water pressure may control ice flow speeds on a seasonal/annual scale, and that ocean tides can change ice flow on an hourly/daily scale. This observation provides important constraints for computer simulations of future sea level rise in terms of the impacting factors and their respective timescales. Objective To determine the association of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir (NMV/r) with hospitalization or death within 30 days as compared with untreated controls previously uninfected and nonhospitalized. Methods We used a matched cohort design using inverse probability of treatment weight (IPTW). Individuals prescribed NMV/r within 3 days of COVID-19 diagnosis were compared with IPTW-based untreated controls. Variables for IPTW included age, race, sex, body mass index, geographic location, vaccination status, and multiple comorbidities. Additional analyses were conducted on NMV/r-treated and propensity score–matched untreated controls. Results Among 7615 individuals prescribed NMV/r and 62 077 controls identified between 1 January 2022 and 25 February 2023, the risk of hospitalization/death was lower among NMV/r-treated persons vs untreated controls (243 vs 3468 events; absolute risk difference [ARD], −2.36 [95% CI, −2.57 to −2.14]). The difference was significant for those >60 and ≤60 years old (ARD, −3.86 [95% CI, −4.19 to −3.54] vs −0.27 [95% CI, −0.51 to −0.03]) and for persons asymptomatic and symptomatic (ARD, −7.09 [95% CI, −7.62 to −6.55] vs −1.46 [95% CI, −1.66 to −1.25]). Significant benefit was observed among individuals unvaccinated and vaccinated, with or without a booster dose. This study was designed to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of relevant parameters of 18F-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-1007 PET/CT in predicting the pathological grade of primary prostate cancer. Briefly, a prospective analysis was performed on 53 patients diagnosed with prostate cancer by systematic puncture biopsy, followed by 18F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT examination prior to treatment within 10 d. The patients were grouped in accordance with the Gleason grading system revised by the International Association of Urology Pathology (ISUP). They were divided into high-grade group (ISUP 4-5 group) and low-grade group (ISUP 1-3 group). The differences in maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), tumor-to-background ratio (TBR), intraprostatic PSMA-derived tumor volume (iPSMA-TV), and intraprostatic total lesion PSMA (iTLPSMA) between the high- and low-grade group were statistically significant (p < .001). No significant difference was found for mean standardized uptake value (SUVmean) between the high- and low-grade groups (Z = -1.131, p = .258). Besides, binary multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that only iPSMA-TV and iTL-PSMA were independent predictors of the pathological grading, for which the odds ratios were 18.821 [95% confidence interval (CI): 2.040-173.614, p = .010] and 0.758 (95% CI: 0.613-0.938, p = .011), respectively. The area under the ROC of this regression model was 0.983 (95% CI: 0.958-1.00, p < .001). Only iTL-PSMA was a significant parameter for distinguishing ISUP-4 and ISUP-5 groups (Z = -2.043, p = .041). In a nutshell, 18F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT has good application value in predicting the histopathological grade of primary prostate cancer. Arthrinium phaeospermum is the major pathogen responsible for the significant stem disease "blight" in B. pervariabilis × D. grandis. The interacting proteins of the key pathogenic factor ApCtf1β, BDUbc and BDSKL1, have previously been obtained by two-hybrid, BiFC, GST pull-down yeast assays. However, the functions of these interacting proteins remain unknown. This study successfully obtained transgenic plants overexpressing BDUbc, BDSKL1, and BDUbc + BDSKL1 via Agrobacterium-mediated gene overexpression. qRT-PCR analysis revealed significantly increased expression levels of BDUbc and BDSKL1 in the transgenic plants. After infection with the pathogenic spore suspension, the disease incidence and severity index significantly decreased across all three transgenic plants, accompanied by a marked increase in defense enzyme levels. Notably, the co-transformed plant, OE-BDUbc + BDSKL1, demonstrated the lowest disease incidence and severity index among the transgenic variants. These results not only indicate that BDUbc and BDSKL1 are disease-resistant genes, but also that these two genes may exhibit a synergistic enhancement effect, which further improves the resistance to blight in Bambusa pervariabilis × Dendrocalamopsis grandis. To investigate the thermal and mechanical behavior of casting wheel, a two-dimensional thermoelastic-plastic finite element model was used to predict the temperature, stress and distortion distribution of the casting wheel during the wheel and belt continuous casting process. The effects of grinding thickness and casting speed on the thermal and mechanical behaviors of the center of the hot face of the casting wheel were discussed in detail. In each rotation, the casting wheel passes through four different spray zones. The results show that the temperature distribution of the casting wheel in different spray zones is similar, the temperature of the hot face is the highest and the temperature reaches the peak in the spray zone III. The stress and distortion depend on the temperature distribution, and the maximum stress and distortion of the hot face are 358.2 MPa and 1.82 mm, respectively. The temperature at the center of the hot face decreases with increasing grinding thickness and increases with increasing casting speed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Biomineralization is a universal biological phenomenon in which organisms use inorganic minerals to form their own structures. Inspired by the discovery of mineralized phages in nature, the concept of artificial biomimetic viral mineralization is proposed and it is validated using a large panel of viruses. Different viruses can be mineralized under different conditions, and the same virus can be completely mineralized using different inorganic minerals. The biomineralized viruses with unique physical and chemical properties display biological phenotypes distinct from those of their native counterparts during the subsequent infection process. These new features are largely due to the inorganic minerals chosen. Calcium is the most frequently used material for viral mineralization, and other inorganic ions, including silicon, aluminum, and ferrum, have also been utilized. In this review, recent advances in the artificial biomimetic mineralization of viruses are summarized while highlighting the potential applications and challenges in biomedicine. Background: Analyse and discuss the immediate stability of the cervical spine after anterior cervical discectomy and fusion using a door-shaped titanium plate and compare it with the traditional titanium plate, to provide biomechanical evidence for the rationality and effectiveness of the door-shaped titanium plate in clinical applications. Methods: Ten adult goat C4/5 vertebral bodies were obtained, and models were prepared using denture base resin. Biomechanical experiments were performed on the specimens before internal fixation. MTS was used to conduct non-destructive biomechanical loading tests in six directions, including flexion, extension, left–right bending, and left–right torsion, recording the range of motion (ROM) and neutral zone (NZ) of each specimen. The specimens were then randomly divided into two groups: the study group was fixed with a door-shaped titanium plate, and the control group was fixed with a traditional titanium plate. ROM and NZ in each direction were measured again. After measurements, both groups were subjected to 0.5 Hz torsion loading with a torque of 2 N m for a total of 3000 cycles, followed by measuring ROM and NZ in six directions once more. Results: Compared to before fixation, ROM and NZ in both groups significantly decreased in all six directions after fixation, with statistical significance (P < 0.05); after fixation, the study group showed slightly lower values for various mechanical reference parameters compared to the control group, with no statistical significance (P > 0.05); after 3000 torsional loads, both internal fixation groups showed increased ROM and NZ compared to after fixation but to a lower extent, and no screw or titanium plate loosening was observed. Compared to before fixation, the differences were still statistically significant (P < 0.05), with the study group having slightly lower ROM and NZ values in all directions compared to the control group, with no statistical significance (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The door-shaped titanium plate exhibits mechanical properties similar to the traditional titanium plate in all directions, and its smaller size and simpler surgical operation can be used for anterior cervical endoscopic surgery, reducing surgical trauma. This paper proposes a Boolean network model with high dimensional chaos driving and investigates the synchronization of the chaos‐driven Boolean network with a semi‐tensor product. In order to protect the privacy and ensure the security of image transmission, the synchronization results are utilized in the image cryptosystem to achieve compression and encryption. First, the driving chaos system is coupled with multiple local systems and synchronized with the transmitted encrypted signals. Second, the Boolean network is driven and synchronized with derived chaos signals. Finally, images are encrypted and compressed with chaos‐driven Boolean network signals in the transmitter, and then decrypted and recovered with synchronized chaos and Boolean network signals in the recipient. Biomimetic viral mineralization improves viral vaccine stability and immunogenicity using inorganic metals such as Ca, Al, or Fe. Mn is a metal found in high concentrations in mammalian tissues; however, under natural or laboratory conditions, Mn mineralization by medical viruses has yet to be established. Herein, a single IAV particle is successfully encapsulated with manganese phosphate (MnP) under specific conditions using the human influenza A virus (IAV). MnP‐mineralized IAVs (IAV@Mn) exhibited physiochemical and in vitro properties similar to Ca‐mineralized IAVs. In animal models, IAV@Mn shows limited replication in immune‐competent cells and a significant attenuation compared to naïve cells. Moreover, a single‐dose vaccination with IAV@Mn induced robust humoral and cellular immune responses and conferred significant protection against a wild‐type IAV challenge in mice. Background Clinical benefit of molnupiravir (MPV) in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)–infected subpopulations is unclear. Methods We used a matched cohort study design to determine the rate of hospitalization or death within 30 days of COVID-19 diagnosis among MPV treated and untreated controls. Participants were nonhospitalized, previously uninfected Veterans with a first confirmed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection between 1 January and 31 August 2022, who were prescribed MPV within 3 days of COVID-19 diagnosis, and matched individuals who were not prescribed MPV. Results Among 1459 matched pairs, the incidence of hospitalization/death was not different among MPV treated versus untreated controls (48 vs 44 cases; absolute risk difference [ARD], 0.27; 95% confidence interval [CI], −.94 to 1.49). No benefit was observed among those >60 or ≤60 years old (ARD, 0.27; 95% CI, −1.25 to 1.79 vs ARD, −0.29; 95% CI, −1.22 to 1.80), those with specific comorbidities, or by vaccination status. A significant benefit was observed in asymptomatic but not in symptomatic persons (ARD, −2.80; 95% CI, −4.74 to −.87 vs ARD, 1.12; 95% CI −.31 to 2.55). Kaplan-Meier curves did not show a difference in proportion of persons who were hospitalized or died among MPV treated compared with untreated controls (logrank P =.7). Conclusions MPV was not associated with a reduction in hospitalization or death within 30 days of COVID-19 diagnosis. A subgroup of patients presenting without symptoms experienced a benefit. This study focuses on depositing Ni/W-Al2O3 nanocomposites onto a low-carbon substrate using the pulse electrodeposition technique. The effects of pulse current density on microstructural characteristics, microhardness, phase structure, and wear/corrosion properties of Ni/W-Al2O3 nanocomposites were investigated. Among the investigated nanocomposites, Ni/W-Al2O3 deposited at 0.6 A/dm2 current density showed the finest structure with average Ni-W grain and Al2O3 nanoparticle sizes of 66.7 nm and 39.1 nm, respectively. The Ni/W-Al2O3 nanocomposite deposited under the same conditions exhibited a maximum microhardness of ~ 825.7 HV, while also demonstrating the lowest corrosion current density of ~ 0.72 A/cm2. After 60 min of wear testing, wear loss of Ni/W-Al2O3 nanocomposite deposited at 0.6 A/dm2 was recorded as 42.8 mg, indicating its excellent wear resistance. Herein, a homogeneous carbon nanostructure-based aptasensor with high sensitivity and selectivity has been developed by applying fluorescence polarization (FP) technology. The FP of carbon dots (CDs) bioconjugated with LF aptamers (CDs-aptamer) is 21.2% higher than that of CDs, which can be further amplified (1.81 times) once interacting with graphene oxide nanosheets (GONS). In the presence of LF, GONS separates from CDs-aptamer because of the stronger binding affinity between CDs-aptamer to LF, resulting in the decrease of FP value. A linear relationship is observed between FP value and LF concentration in spiked tear samples from 0.66 to 3.32 mg/mL. The error of precise initiation time controlled at the microsecond level in the electronic detonator blasting is accurate enough to realize blasting vibration reduction; however, the realization of precise control of blasting vibration using the electronic detonators remains rudimentary, researches on the precise zoning protection of buildings and field experiments are lacked. Therefore, multi-delay time of double-hole and multi-hole blasting experiments were carried out to explore the influence of different delay time on blast-induced PPV (Peak Particle Velocity). Based on the measured blasting vibration waveforms with blasting center distance of 16–200 m the reasonable delay time reducing PPV was investigated when the protective buildings at different blasting center distances and the reasonable delay time suitable for zoning protection was put forward to verify the applicability of the electronic detonators. The results show that as the initiation delay time increases, the PPV of blasting vibration first decreases then increases and finally attenuates to the single-hole PPV, with the increase of the blasting center distance, the reasonable delay time for reducing PPV gradually increases. However, a greater vibration enhancement effect will be produced when the delay time reaches at a certain value in the near area, the generated maximum PPV is about 1.8 times the single-hole PPV and there will be multiple short delay time producing enhancement effect in multi-hole blasting, the short delay time cannot be blindly adopted to reduce vibration. Therefore, the delay time of electronic detonators should be reasonably set to achieve the effect of blasting vibration reduction based on the distance between the protected buildings and the blasting zone. Background and Aim: Epidemiological evidence on the relationship between exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs), both single and mixed, and serum lipid levels is limited, and their relationship remains unclear. Our study aimed to investigate the associations of exposure to VOCs with serum lipid levels in the US adult population. Methods and results: The study examined the association of 16 VOC levels (2-methylhippuric acid, 3- and 4-methylhippuric acid, N-acetyl-S-(2-carbamoylethyl)-L-cysteine, N-acetyl-S-(N-methylcarbamoyl)-L-cysteine, 2-aminothiazoline-4-carboxylic acid, N-acetyl-S-(benzyl)-L-cysteine, N-acetyl-S-(n-propyl)-L-cysteine, N-acetyl-S-(2-carboxyethyl)-L-cysteine, N-acetyl-S-(2-cyanoethyl)-L-cysteine, N-acetyl-S-(3,4-dihydroxybutyl)-L-cysteine, N-acetyl-S-(2-hydroxypropyl)-L-cysteine. N-Acetyl-S-(3-hydroxypropyl)-L-cysteine, mandelic acid, N-acetyl-S-(4-hydroxy-2-butenyl)-L-cysteine, phenylglyoxylic acid and N-acetyl-S-(3-hydroxypropyl-1-methyl)-L-cysteine) with total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2011 and 2015, and a total of 1410 adults were enrolled. The association was evaluated by Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR), multiple linear regression and weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression. In BKMR analysis, exposure to VOCs is positively correlated with levels of TC, TG, and LDL-C. However, statistical significance was observed only for the impact on TG. Our linear regression analysis and WQS regression generally support the BKMR results. Several VOCs were positively associated with serum lipid profiles (e.g., the ln-transformed level of mandelic acid (MA) displayed an increase in estimated changes of 7.01 (95% CIs: 2.78, 11.24) mg/dL for TC level), even after the effective number of tests for multiple testing (P < 0.05). Channel selection is a critical trade-off for digital products firms whose products are characterized by network externality. This work develops the models of consumers' utility impacted by the network externality for two channel strategies of the digital product firms in the two-sided market: direct channel strategy and platform channel strategy. Deriving from the consumers' utility, the optimization models of the two channel strategies are presented. The optimization models are solved through the Lagrangian method, and the comparative statics analysis is conducted to investigate the effect of network externality on optimality. Mathematical results show that if the intensity of network externality in the online platform surpasses that in the direct channel, the platform channel strategy dominates the other channel strategy; otherwise, the direct channel strategy is the firms' optimal decision. In addition, the two channels share the equal optimal price, and the firms' profit (and demand) would be positively impacted by the network effect and the products' features but negatively impacted by the consumers' learning cost. In this paper, a robust composite control strategy in the framework of unified infinite-dimensional H ∞ optimal control is developed to support nano-scale periodic tracking with improved non-harmonic disturbance attenuation of piezo-actuated nano-stages with sensor-induced measurement delays. In particular, we analyze the electromechanical coupled dynamics and derive a multi-perturbation model, where an extended Youla–Kucera parameterization-based repetitive controller with a disturbance observer is constructed to optimize control performances on high-precision tracking and perturbation rejection. The controller parameters are solved by using a unified infinite-dimensional H ∞ optimization method. Comprehensive experiments on a piezo-actuated stage are conducted, where comparative results with representative methods, such as the conventional repetitive control and proportional-integral-derivative control, demonstrate significant performance improvements in hysteresis compensation, trajectory tracking, and disturbance suppression of the proposed method. In the two-sided market where the third-party platforms connect the providers and consumers, the online platforms become the significant distribution channel of digital products; therefore, the digital product firms face the hybrid channel pricing problem in the two-sided market in which the products are launched through the platform channel and the existing direct channel. Because the network externality effect is the significant economic characteristic of digital products and services, the current work presents the models of consumers' utility obtained by adopting digital products from the direct and platform channels, and the utility models use the network effect in the direct and platform channels as the parameters. The optimization model on pricing is derived from the utility models and solved mathematically. The closed-form solutions show that the price in the direct channel is supposed to be lower than that in the platform channel, while the prices of digital products would be affected by the network effect only when the products are distributed through the direct channel. The comparative statics analysis on the network effect illustrates that the network effect in the direct channel and the platform channel would, respectively, have the positive and negative impact on the products' prices and the firms' profit. The current work explores the hybrid channel pricing problem and provides insights for the digital product firms on the optimal pricing decision in the context of the emerging platform economy. Simple Summary: Sexual dimorphism widely exists in animals and is reflected in different forms; of these, body mass dimorphism is the most prominent. Studies on the development and adaptation mechanism of sexual dimorphism in body mass can help us to understand how animals adapt to their environment via sexual dimorphism. As this has not been widely reported in Rhinopithecus, this study explores the ontogenetic development pattern of sexual dimorphism in the body mass of R. bieti, and interprets the causes resulting in extreme sexual dimorphism. The results showed that a significant dimorphism appears when females enter the reproductive period, reaching the maximum when males are mature for reproduction. It was determined that a period of decline begins after 8 years of age, and that males had a longer growth period than females. The large sexual dimorphism in body mass in R. bieti can be explained by both Bergmann's and Rensch's rules; however, the females' choice for males may not be significantly related to it. Overall, environmental adaptation, a distinctive alimentary system, and complex social structure have allowed R. bieti to have remarkable sexual dimorphism in body mass compared to other colobines. This study will undoubtedly highlight the same issues on the other 26 primate species in China, particularly the colobines, which will enrich research designs and enlarge research focus on China's primatology. Sexual dimorphism exists widely in animals, manifesting in different forms, such as body size, color, shape, unique characteristics, behavior, and sound. Of these, body mass dimorphism is the most obvious. Studies of evolutionary and ontogenetic development and adaptation mechanisms of animals' sexual dimorphism in body mass (SDBM), allow us to understand how environment, social group size, diet, and other external factors have driven the selection of sexual dimorphism. There are fewer reports of the ontogenetic development of sexual dimorphism in body mass in Rhinopithecus. This study explores the ontogenetic development pattern of SDBM in wild black-and-white snub-nosed monkeys (R. bieti), and the causes resulting in extreme sexual dimorphism compared to other colobines. A significant dimorphism with a ratio of 1.27 (p < 0.001) appears when females enter the reproductive period around six years old, reaching a peak (1.85, p < 0.001) when males become sexually mature. After the age of eight, the SDBM falls to 1.78, but is still significant (p < 0.001). The results also indicate that males had a longer body mass growth period than females (8 years vs. 5 years); females in larger breeding units had a significantly higher SDBM than those in smaller ones (2.12 vs. 1.93, p < 0.01). A comparative analysis with other colobines further clarifies that Rhinopithecus and Nasalis, which both have multilevel social organization, have the highest degree of SDBM among all colobines. The large SDBM in R. bieti can be explained through Bergman's and Rensch's rules. Overall, environmental adaptation, a distinctive alimentary system, and a complex social structure contribute to R. bieti having such a remarkable SDBM compared to other colobines. As a key problem in slope-stability analysis, searching for potential sliding surfaces has attracted the attention of experts and scholars for a long time. However, the commonly used sliding surface curves are only considered in terms of shape approximation and lack physical significance. The search process involved in stability analysis of multi-level slopes is complex and a large amount of calculation is required. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a new sliding surface form based on physical interpretation of the brachistochrone, and establishes a search model for the brachistochrone sliding surface of a multi-level loess slope. At the same time, in order to further expand the search range and find a more ideal potential sliding surface curve shape and position with a lower safety factor, we recommend continuing the sliding-surface search after the brachistochrone is improved. We compared the calculation results for the position of the potential sliding surface and the stability safety factor with the corresponding results for an arc sliding surface (in combination with a calculation example) to verify its rationality. The approach offered here not only provides a new choice of sliding surface curve form for slope-stability analysis, but also significantly improves search efficiency for potential sliding surfaces of multi-level loess slopes. The study of interaction proteins of the pathogen A. phaeospermum effector protein is an important means to analyze the disease-resistance mechanism of Bambusa pervariabilis × Dendrocalamopsis grandis shoot blight. To obtain the proteins interacting with the effector ApCE22 of A. phaeospermum, 27 proteins interacting with the effector ApCE22 were initially identified via a yeast two-hybrid assay, of which four interaction proteins were obtained after one-to-one validation. The B2 protein and the chaperone protein DnaJ chloroplast protein were then verified to interact with the ApCE22 effector protein by bimolecular fluorescence complementation and GST pull-down methods. Advanced structure prediction showed that the B2 protein contained the DCD functional domain related to plant development and cell death, and the DnaJ protein contained the DnaJ domain related to stress resistance. The results showed that both the B2 protein and DnaJ protein in B. pervariabilis × D. grandis were the target interaction proteins of the ApCE22 effector of A. phaeospermum and related to the stress resistance of the host B. pervariabilis × D. grandis. The successful identification of the pathogen effector interaction target protein in B. pervariabilis × D. grandis plays an important role in the mechanism of pathogen–host interaction, thus providing a theoretical basis for the control of B. pervariabilis × D. grandis shoot blight. Purpose: This study was to test the hypothesis that intramedullary (IM) nailing fixation of midshaft clavicle fractures could result in better clinical outcomes and lower complications rates than plating fixation.Methods: PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library database were used to search all English language published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of midshaft clavicle fractures using plating versus IM nailing. The characteristics of the study participants were collected. Outcomes of postoperative shoulder functional measurements, operative data and complications rates were meta-analyzed.Results: Eight hundred and ninety-five patients in ten RCTs and three quasi-RCTs were involved in the meta-analysis. The results of meta-analysis of these studies showed that the functional outcome evaluated by the Constant Shoulder and Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) scores after accepting IM nailing was significantly better than that of plating fixation at one year post-operatively (P < 0.01), with the heterogeneity of 43% and 91%, respectively. Sensitivity analyses of the pooled results of Constant and DASH scores displayed that the functional advantage of IM nailing fixation comes from the subgroup of locked IM nailing. Further, regarding the operative statistics, operative time, blood loss and wound length were significantly less in the IM nailing group than the plating group (P < 0.001). The rates of infection, major complications and complications-related revision surgery were significantly higher in the plating group than the IM nailing group; however, there were no significantly statistical differences in other complications, e.g., nonunion, refracture after hardware removal, implant failure, symptomatic hardware, etc. (P > 0.05).Conclusion: The observations in this review suggested that IM nailing, especially locked IM nailing, could provide better shoulder functional outcome at one-year follow-up. Moreover, IM nailing fixation could effectively reduce operative time, blood loss, rates of infection, major complications, and revision surgery than plating. Aiming at achieving the high-purity recovery of ethanol (EtOH) and tert-butanol (TBA) from industrial waste with low carbon emission, the processes intensified by hybrid reactive distillation combined with pressure-swing distillation (PSD) and extractive distillation (ED) are proposed in this work. The optimum procedure of the sequential iterative method is applied to select an optimal pressure for these hybrid reactive distillation processes. From the economic and environmental impact perspective, the results indicated that the reactive-extractive-/pressure-swing hybrid distillation has significant economic and environmental advantages. The REPDC-REPC (reactive-extractive-/pressure-swing hybrid distillation) process is the most potential and competitive, saving 56.47% TAC and reducing 69.23% CO 2 emissions, and has 67.51% thermodynamic efficiency, minor exergy destruction, and most enormous total exergy efficiency. As a new type of lightweight structure, metallic lattice structure has higher stiffness and strength to weight ratio. To freely obtain 316L lattice structures with designed cell structure and adjustable porosity, additive manufacturing combined with investment casting was conducted to fabricate the 316L lattice structures with Kelvin cell. The compression simulation of 316L lattice structures with different porosities was carried out by using the finite element method. The numerical simulation results were verified by compression experiment, and the simulated results were consistent with the compression tests. The compressive mechanical properties of 316L lattice structures are directly related to porosity and independent of strut diameters. This article presents a reference-based genre knowledge model for Quechua folk tales (kwintus) based on an in-depth analysis of referential categories with the potential of characterizing a genre. Embedded in a cognitive framework, the study combines a datadriven approach, analyzing both discrete and non-discrete units as well as constructions, with a top-down approach starting from (genre specific) conceptual structures such as the role types proposed by Propp. By examining six folk tales related in Cuzco Quechua, shared linguistic features are hypothesized as central features of the genre of kwintus, while features determined by individual or stylistic choices are less representative. A simple and general red light-induced oxidation of organoboron compounds to obtain hydroxyl has been developed with spinach as the photocatalyst in alcohol. This mild protocol shows broad substrate scope and provides a wide range of aliphatic alcohols and phenols in moderate to excellent yields. Notably, the robustness of this method is suitable for B(OH)2, Bpin, Bneo and BF3K substrates that respond to different lights, including red, blue and sunlight. A larger scale experiment and green chemistry metrics analysis prove that this is a robust and green approach, which can even be carried out using only kitchen equipment and ingredients. Metal-oxide arresters (MOA) are widely used to protect equipment against transient electromagnetic disturbances (TED) like very fast transient overvoltage (VFTO), high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP), lightning pulse, et al. Researches on the performance of MOA under microsecond level rise-time TED are abundant, such as lightning pulse. However, when MOA is subjected to TED of rise-time at nanosecond level, the voltage/current responses of MOA are not fully studied due to the lack of a standardized and reliable test setup. In this paper, a test setup is proposed for acquiring the response behavior of MOA under nanosecond level pulse. The setup is comprised of a pulse generator, a two-branch transmission line system and a high voltage power divider. The generator can provide stable double exponential pulse with tunable rise-time ranging from 5 ns to 100 ns. The divider ensures an even distribution of voltage/current surge wave along the two-branch line. Through the numerical analysis, both impinging and residual surge waveforms could be retrieved from measurements. Movement intention inference for non-cooperative evasive targets in urban environments is difficult due to the lack of a priori knowledge of the possible target's movement intentions set. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a multi-level intention inference approach to construct and infer the movement intentions of a non-cooperative evasive target in urban environments. Firstly, to reasonably represent the possible movement intentions of the target, we decompose the target's movement intention into different regions at multiple levels according to the urban environment and the location of the target. At the same time, we divide the region at each level into several different sub-regions to represent the different movement intentions of the target at that level. Thus, the possible target's movement intentions are constructed as different regions at different levels where the target intends to go. Secondly, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-based intention inference models are developed, which can fuse the urban environment information and the observed target's trajectory to infer the target's movement intentions. Extensive simulation experiments results show that our proposed multi-level intention inference models can accurately and timely (with 79% accuracy and 84% timeliness) infer the region where the target intends to go when the possible destinations of the target are unknowable and maintain a robust inference performance when the target's behavior changes. Methane steam reforming will still account for most of hydrogen production in the coming decades. Membrane reactor can play a key role in both energy saving and process/equipment compactness, particularly for its decentralized applications. Here we design a particles-based packed-bed membrane reactor and explore the operational window and design challenges by conducting systematic study experimentally and computationally, particularly emphasizing geometrical scale of membrane reactor and catalyst activity. The results show that membrane reactor presents maximum hydrogen flux by consuming unit methane under the optimized operation conditions of GHSV (i.e., 1134 hr−1) and steam-to-carbon ratio (i.e., 2), and computational study shows that optimal operation window is around 30 atm and 773.15 K. Moreover, the design criteria of "Catalyst activity – Membrane performance – Radial depth" is revealed quantitatively and catalyst activity is identified as the key limiting factor for further process intensification. Quantum key distribution, initialized in 1984, is a commercialized secure communication method that enables two parties to produce a shared random secret key using quantum mechanics. We propose a QQUIC (Quantum-assisted Quick UDP Internet Connections) transport protocol, which modifies the well-known QUIC transport protocol by employing quantum key distribution instead of the original classical algorithms in the key exchange stage. Due to the provable security of quantum key distribution, the security of the QQUIC key does not depend on computational assumptions. It is possible that, surprisingly, QQUIC can reduce network latency in some circumstances even compared with QUIC. The shoot blight of Bambusa pervariabilis × Dendrocalamopsis grandis caused by Arthrinium phaeospermum made bamboo die in a large area, resulting in serious ecological and economic losses. Dual RNA-seq was used to sequence and analyze the transcriptome data of A. phaeospermum and B. pervariabilis × D. grandis in the four periods after the pathogen infected the host and to screen the candidate effectors of the pathogen related to the infection. After the identification of the effectors by the tobacco transient expression system, the functions of these effectors were verified by gene knockout. Fifty-three differentially expressed candidate effectors were obtained by differential gene expression analysis and effector prediction. Among them, the effectors ApCE12 and ApCE22 can cause programmed cell death in tobacco. The disease index of B. pervariabilis × D. grandis inoculated with mutant ΔApCE12 and mutant ΔApCE22 strains were 52.5% and 47.5%, respectively, which was significantly lower than that of the wild-type strains (80%), the ApCE12 complementary strain (77.5%), and the ApCE22 complementary strain (75%). The tolerance of the mutant ΔApCE12 and mutant ΔApCE22 strains to H2O2 and NaCl stress was significantly lower than that of the wild-type strain and the ApCE12 complementary and ApCE22 complementary strains, but there was no difference in their tolerance to Congo red. Therefore, this study shows that the effectors ApCE12 and ApCE22 play an important role in A. phaeospermum virulence and response to H2O2 and NaCl stress. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The global regulator LaeA plays crucial roles in morphological development and secondary metabolite biosynthesis in filamentous fungi. However, the functions of LaeA in basidiomycetes are less reported. The basidiomycete Pleurotus ostreatus is a well-known fungus used both in medicine and as food that produces polysaccharides and cellulolytic enzymes. In this study, we characterized three LaeA homologs (PoLaeA1, PoLaeA2, and PoLaeA3) in P. ostreatus. PoLaeA1 showed different expression patterns than PoLaeA2 and PoLaeA3 during different developmental stages. Silencing PoLaeA1 decreased the intracellular polysaccharide (IPS) content by approximately 28–30% and reduced intracellular ROS levels compared with those of the WT strain. However, silencing PoLaeA2 and PoLaeA3 decreased cellulase activity by 31–34% and 35–40%, respectively, and reduced the cytosolic Ca2+ content, compared with those of the WT strain. Further analysis showed that PoLaeA1 regulated IPS biosynthesis through intracellular ROS levels, whereas PoLaeA2 and PoLaeA3 regulated cellulase activity through intracellular Ca2+ signaling. Spintronic heterostructures consisting of ferromagnetic (FM) and nonmagnetic (NM) have become increasingly important devices for terahertz (THz) pulse generation, named as spintronic THz emitter (STE). The recycling of the laser pump energy is known to have a key impact on further improvement of the THz emission. Here, an efficient and practical approach to enhance and manipulate THz generation based on a cascaded Pt/CoFe/Ta trilayer fabricated on a flexible polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate is shown. Considering the refractive index n of PET is ≈1.61 at 1.55 eV and ≈1.75 at THz frequencies, it is anticipated that the femtosecond (fs) laser pulse propagates with a similar group velocity as the generated THz pulse. Therefore, the cascaded design enables all THz emission from each PET/STE propagating almost in-phase and yields a 1.55 times amplification compared to a single PET/STE. Two proof-of-concept demonstrations are experimentally presented. First one, a metasurface can be assembled with the cascaded PET/STE to manipulate the THz signal. Second one, the cascaded PET/STE is used to perform a spectroscopic measurement of riboflavin. These demonstrations highlight the potential of flexible PET/STE for building blocks of advanced functionalities, such as compact THz emitters, THz spectroscopic, and imaging systems. To investigate the influence of imidazole ionic liquids (IILs) on the whole process of coal spontaneous combustion (CSC). Three IILs, [EMIm][BF4], [BMIm][BF4], and [BMIm][NO3], were selected to carry out thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry (TG–DSC) thermal analysis experiments on long-flame coal. The mass change curve (TG) and enthalpy change curve (DSC) of the coal oxidation process were determined. The characteristic temperatures and stages of the whole process of CSC were also divided by TG and DSC curves, respectively. The influence of IILs on the mass and enthalpy changes were analyzed. Then, the inhibition effect of different IILs on the whole process and each stage of CSC were calculated based on the thermal release, and the inhibition strength of anion and cation was discriminated. From the TG curve, the characteristic temperatures (except T2) and stages of the treated coal moved toward the high-temperature region of the CSC process compared with the raw coal, the whole mass loss behavior lags behind the raw coal significantly, and the mass loss in the combustion stage is smaller than that of the raw coal. From the DSC curve, the characteristic temperatures (except TD4) of the treated coal are higher than that of the raw coal, and the thermal release at each stage is lower. Although IILs have a slight facilitating on the accelerated oxidation stage of CSC. However, in general, IILs not only inhibit the occurrence and development of CSC mass loss behavior, but also cause the thermal behavior to end earlier and thermal release reduced. The inhibition effect of the three IILs on spontaneous combustion of long-flame coal is as follows: [EMIm][BF4] > [BMIm][NO3] > [BMIm][BF4], with inhibition effects of 26.5%, 19.4%, and 4.8%, respectively. The inhibition effect on CSC of cation [EMIm]+ is better than that of [BMIm]+, anion [NO3]– is better than that of [BF4]–, and the inhibition strength of cation was superior to the anion. However, turning it to reality is hindered by controllability and scalability in high-efficient, cost-effective preparation, particularly when combined with state-of-the-art encapsulated catalysts. Herein, in-situ hydrothermal coating method is developed to achieve tunable incorporation of Pd@S-1 catalyst into micro-structured confined space, and the trade-off between catalyst loading and confined micro-structures' availability towards the best performance is revealed, e.g. 10 ∼ 50 °C lower T 50 with balanced control. Moreover, systematic experiments and CFD simulations prove that (1) flow-through flow pattern, rather than flow-over, in confined space enables better catalyst utilization and performance (>10 °C lower T 50), thus optimal micro-structure design is proposed; (3) a loosely bundled scale-up method is the best. Smooth blasting is an important excavation method in tunnel construction, creating a smooth and even excavation profile during the excavation process. In this study, the influence of in-situ stress, hole spacing, and radial decoupling coefficient on the superposition of blasting stress and the cracking characteristic between holes were investigated by using integrated analytical and numerical analyses (FDEM). Based on those results, the design of smooth blasting parameters considering the influence of in-situ stress were suggested, and verified against the data collected during the blasting excavation of diversion tunnel at Jinping II hydropower station. The results indicated that the propagation of blast-induced fractures are significantly influenced by the insitu stress conditions, tending to extend towards the direction of the maximum principal stress thus the holes should be arranged along the direction of the maximum principal stress to ensure the formation of cracks between holes and smooth excavation of the wall.
