- Abstract
Studies related to the feasibility of using alternative materials to the copper black globe have been carried out, mainly due to the high price of copper. In view of this, it is justified to evaluate the efficiency of using an aluminum mug, with a capacity of 50 ml (model for a spray gun), as an alternative material to replace the copper black globe. The mug was painted with matte black paint in two layers and a mercury thermometer was inserted in the center. For the thermal behavior test, a copper black globe and an alternative black globe were placed side by side, at the Precision Animal Science Laboratory, Universidade Brasil. The temperatures of the globes were collected over five days in three periods (morning, afternoon and night) totaling 15 minutes/period with a 5-minute interval. For statistical analysis, the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test was used, at a 5% significance level. The thermal behavior of the alternative black globe was similar to the copper black globe, proving to be satisfactory. However, during the experiment it was observed that the heating times of the materials in each globe differed, therefore, the study will be continued to investigate resistivity and hysteresis effects. It is concluded that the thermal behavior of the alternative black globe is similar to the thermal behavior of the copper black globe. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
