Threat mapping is a necessary tool for identifying and abating direct threats to species in the ongoing extinction crisis. There are known gaps in the threat mapping literature for particular threats and geographic locations, and it remains unclear if the distribution of research effort is appropriately targeted relative to conservation need. We aimed to determine the drivers of threat mapping research effort and to quantify gaps that, if filled, could inform actions with the highest potential to reduce species' extinction risk. We used a negative binomial generalized linear model to analyze research effort as a function of threat abatement potential (quantified as the potential reduction in species extinction risk from abating threats), species richness, land area, and human pressure. The model showed that threat mapping research effort increased by 1.1 to 1.2 times per standardized unit change in threat abatement potential. However, species richness and land area were stronger predictors of research effort overall. The greatest areas of mismatch between research effort and threat abatement potential, receiving disproportionately low research effort, were related to the threats to species of agriculture, aquaculture, and biological resource use across the tropical regions of the Americas, Asia, and Madagascar. Conversely, the threat of linear infrastructure (e.g., roads and rails) across regions, the threat of biological resource use (e.g., hunting or collection) in sub‐Saharan Africa, and overall threats in North America and Europe all received disproportionately high research effort. We discuss the range of methodological and sociopolitical factors that may be behind the overall trends and specific areas of mismatch we found. We urge a stronger emphasis on targeting research effort toward those threats and geographic locations where threat abatement activities could make the greatest contribution to reducing global species extinction risk. Purpose: This article aims to highlight the existence of an Anthropocene feedback process originating from the pressures of human actions on Earth, particularly the adoption of novel technologies that bring risks and negative environmental impacts in two strategic economic sectors: energy and agriculture. Originality/value: We defend the argument that each technological advance generates new associated risks, increasing the negative pressure on terrestrial ecosystems. This argument draws inspiration from the discourse on the “risk society” (Beck, 2011), which deals with the unquantified uncertainties linked to technological progress. It also aligns with the concept of the Anthropocene (Crutzen & Stoermer, 2000), which examines how human actions and organizations impact the Earth’s system. The discussions demonstrate that uncertainty remains an inherent facet of human activities, thus perpetually subjecting such actions to risk. Design/methodology/approach: We employ a theoretical essay approach to discuss evidence that underscores the challenges posed by technological advancements in the energy and agriculture sectors, notably expressing human-induced environmental impacts. Findings: By analyzing technological advances in energy and agriculture, we substantiate the existence of the Anthropocene feedback process. This analysis contradicts the notion of a favorable “good Anthropocene” (Asafu-Adjaye et al., 2015) and challenges the misconception that technological progress alone can sufficiently mitigate the repercussions of human activities on Earth. The aim of this article is to determine why the prototypical form of high/epic fantasy cannot effectively address the present environmental, social and political problems gathered under the umbrella term of the Anthropocene. Drawing on Marek Oziewicz’s concept of planetarianist fantasy and scholarship on the Anthropocene, as well as on examples of selected fantasy series (J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, Stephen R. Donaldson’s The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, Guy Gavriel Kay’s The Fionavar Tapestry, and Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time), this article investigates the sub-genre’s most persistent components and juxtaposes them against issues related to ethnicity, species interconnectedness, non-human agency, sustained urban development and urban ethics which are raised by Anthropocene debates. This analysis will illustrate why the form of high/epic fantasy requires reconfiguration so that it can continue to evolve together with the needs of contemporary readers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Contemporary conservation science requires mediating conflicts among nonhuman species, but the grounds for favoring one species over another can be unclear. We examined the premises through which wildlife managers picked sides in an interspecies conflict: seabird conservation in the Gulf of Maine (GOM). Managers in the GOM follow a simple narrative dubbed the gull problem. This narrative assumes Larus gulls are overpopulated and unnatural in the region. In turn, these assumptions make gulls an easy target for culling and lethal control when the birds come into conflict with other seabirds, particularly Sterna terns. Surveying historical, natural historical, and ecological evidence, we found no scientific support for the claim that Larus gulls are overpopulated in the GOM. Claims of overpopulation originated from a historical context in which rising gull populations became a nuisance to humans. Further, we found only limited evidence that anthropogenic subsidies make gulls unnatural in the region, especially when compared with anthropogenic subsidies provided for other seabirds. The risks and consequences of leveraging precarious assumptions include cascading plans to cull additional gull populations, obfuscation of more fundamental environmental threats to seabirds, and the looming paradox of gull conservation—even if one is still inclined to protect terns in the GOM. This article seeks to develop a literary theory based on Vinciane Despret's Autobiography of an Octopus. Our aim is to read the narrative in a way that combines the main premise of its creation, the Anthropocene, with instruments developed by Bruno Latour and Donna Haraway, such as the war between Earthbound and Humans, sympoiesis and speculative fabulation. In this context, the Anthropocene takes on the character of "times of urgency", favourable to innovative relationships between beings and between disciplines and contrary to eschatological narratives of the end of the world. In this sense, we intend to outline a theoretical practice that allows the emergence of paradigms that value cognition through the body and the senses, diminishing the prominence of learning or reading traditionally understood as exercises of reason. Discussions on the Anthropocene have surpassed the limits of geosciences and are incorporated into fundamental themes in the field of environmental humanities. Thus, the present essay aims to evaluate the contradictions of the Anthropocene concept and situate other possible nomenclatures. It employs a narrative revision of theoretical and methodological bibliography concerned with the discussion or alternative proposals of the prevailing lexicon. Face the anthropocentrically universality of the dominant term, it demonstrates that other concepts propose to situate ways of mobilizing against the global environmental crisis. These ideas converge in the necessity of surpassing the exclusive usage of the Anthropocene to refer to the current epoch of eco/geosystem derangements caused by geophagic activities of production. Therefore, it discusses the contributions of many others examples of ‘cenes’, indicating what are the specific critics of each theorization in accordance to a classification in meta-propositions, diagnostic proposals, spatial proposals and postulative proposals. It concludes that the multiple ‘cenes’ present complementary or counternarratives that converge in ways of understanding and situating possible solutions to the pluralization of worlds, places, territories and activisms that rebel against the environmental crisis. Each in its own way, they conform means of cultivating irreverent imaginaries that challenge the modern occidental separation of culture and nature. This article investigates, theoretically and empirically, the proposition that beauty—I consider experiences of beautiful places in the natural world in particular—can contribute to the emancipation of modern persons (and thereby developed societies) from instrumental rationality. The article begins by theorizing instrumental rationality as a major driver of the socioecological crises of the Anthropocene. After elucidating the effects of instrumental rationality through Horkheimer's work, the article draws from Buber's concept of the I–Thou relation to conceptualize ideal noninstrumental relations. It then draws from recent scholarship on beauty to claim that beauty is not merely an aesthetic experience, but also a relational one: When not conscripted into serving unscrupulous ends, beauty can produce profoundly mutual I–Thou relations between an individual, the beautiful entity, and all manner of more-than-human beings. Remote interviews and focus groups with thirty-five residents of Juneau, Alaska, suggest that experiences of beautiful places in the natural world do indeed possess the theorized emancipatory potential, precisely because they invite humans into meaning-making I–Thou relations of which many citizens of the modern world find themselves bereft. Conservation references have long been used in conservation biology to compare current biodiversity processes and states with past conditions. However, beyond the paucity of data for the construction of ancient, even prehuman, references, the relevance of these ancient references for studying ecosystems radically modified by human activities is questionable, particularly when the notions of conservation references and conservation objectives are confused and when several conservation ethics coexist that require distinct references. Because of this implicit heterogeneity in the nature of the references and their temporal baseline, conservation references not only have different meanings, but also deliver different messages. I propose establishing a common framework for conservation references to approach past biological systems and build comparable references between studies and projects. The selection of these references (distinct from conservation objectives) should be an early, explicit, standardized, and transparent milestone in any conservation process and these references should be based on state, pressure, or process dynamics, rather than fixed states. Finally, the importance of the diversity of temporal baselines used to build conservation references and to measure anthropogenic impacts should be recognized to understand the biodiversity crisis in its entirety. Based on the stories "Abel" (2013), "La incompleta" (2015) and "La esperada" (2019), by the Costa Rican writer Anacristina Rossi, this article explores the ways in which this narrative trilogy draws from science fiction to reconfigure the notions of identity, nature, and what it means to be human. Drawing on the theories of ecocriticism, postcolonial ecocriticism, and ecofeminism, Rossi's discursive strategies to interconnect anthropocenic concerns about the sustainability of civilization with the idea of the end of the world and a new genesis are analyzed to unravel her critique against all systems of domination that prevail today: patriarchal, economic, colonial, racial, and gendered. A little over ten years ago, the anthropological academy of the global North baptized with the name "multispecies" a mode of study and writing that de-centers the human and that, in research, pays attention to the socio-cultural and affective force of multiple bodies and materialities. However, these kinds of multiple and diverse relationalities have been a constitutive part of many peoples in the global South, subalternized peoples whose historical, situated, and embodied experience account for epistemologies and ways of life obliterated by the modern-racist-colonial system. In other words, these peoples have been able to recognize and name our fragile and precarious condition, which requires more-than-human beings to become possible, in intimate affectation and interdependence, and in collaborative survival; so "multispecies" is just one more word, among others, to refer to the intricate space of relationships that give shape and content to what we call "society", "culture", and "nature". In the time of the Anthropocene, this era of life annihilation driven by rapacious capitalism-speciesism, it is necessary to acknowledge our vital connections with multiple human, animal, plant, mineral, and other kinds of bodies - and their particular ways of being named - in order to propose politics of collaboration and interdependence from which it might be possible to imagine other, more-thanhuman futures; futures that, in fact, might already be imagined and contested right now, from and in the South. So, the objective of this anthropological essay-manifesto is, drawing from Robin Wall Kimmerer, to think about "multispecies grammars of the animated" as an alternative to these times of ruin and necessary creativity to converse with other forms of life and non-life and to reorient ourselves from other epistemologies situated in the margins and embracing that other world that walks with us towards plural futures beyond the Anthropo-capitalocene. In the short book “O Antropoceno e as Humanidades” (The Anthopocene and Humanities) published in 2023, José Eli da Veiga explores two acute symptoms of the dissociation between the knowledge produced in the natural sciences and the humanities or social sciences today: the widespread ignorance of the important contribution that Charles Darwin made to the latter in his second great work, The Descent of Man (1871), and the rather heterogeneous, but generally vague and late reaction that they had to the question of the Anthropocene. The author questions the extent to which the problems that were identified as current in the first issue of Derechos y Libertades remain challenges to the human rights discourse. The conclusion she reaches is that even today it is necessary to discuss universality, participation, inequalities, the degradation of social rights, the role of rights in international relations and the environment. In addition, to the above problems are added the threat of terrorism and the response to this threat, as well as the rise of right-wind populism, and the impact of the technological revolution. Currently, a context marked by the Anthropocene, climate change and the impact of new technologies makes the discourse of rights and, above all, the extension of this beyond academic environments through education in rights, peremptory. The purpose of this article is the technical-legal analysis of the rights of nature. Starting from the ecocentric conceptual framework in which these rights originate, the article exposes, in the first place, the States that have recognized rights to nature as a whole. In relation to these States, the article examines which are, specifically, the rights that are recognized, how these rights are protected, who is responsible for guaranteeing them and what practical results, from the jurisprudential point of view, said protection is having. This first part culminates with an analysis of the accommodation that these rights would have in the Spanish Constitution of 1978. Secondly, the article directs its attention to those States that have proceeded to the personification of specific ecosystems, taking as reference the personification of the Mar Menor, in Spain. In relation to them, the article explores the legal instruments that have carried out these personification processes, the characteristics of the personified ecosystems, the legal implications that personification represents, the bodies that will act as guardians of these ecosystems, the rights that are recognized and the procedural instruments for their protection. The problem of the anthropogenic destruction of nature fundamentally links the notions of Anthropocene and ecocide. It not only implies a crime against biodiversity, but also a form of environmental self-destruction that involves human beings. Humanity, which in its development has built history and left symbolic advancements based on the degradation of the environment, is an agent of the nature it faces, just as (by extension) a microcosm affects the macrocosm in which it is inserted without being outside or independent of it. The aim of this article is to explain how, thanks to an understanding of nature and to nature itself as reason, it is possible to analyze in depth, from the global complex of self-destruction addressed, the need for an ecosuicidology. This study analyzes agricultural technification in Brazil's Southern Border during the Great Acceleration, arguing that conflicting episodes involving human and non-human elements exemplify disputes in the scientific, technological and industrial field between elements such as the dominant - but "decadent" - lard versus the versatility of vegetable oil from soybeans. This battle between oils and fats has also produced social struggles and new hierarchies, not only regionally, but at multiple scales. Methodologically, this study intersperses the analysis of regional events with national and global changes, connecting to economic, political and scientific debates and their claims to manage pigs, soy and viruses. In theoreticalmethodological terms, from an approach that combines environmental history, history of science and environmental studies, this article articulates the relationship between humans and non-humans in the construction of historical processes such as the technification of agriculture in the region. This article analyzes the narratives and geographical imaginaries of the Anthropocene through an examination of two hydroelectric milestones in Argentine Patagonia: the construction of the Chocón-Cerros Colorados complex (1968-1977) and the Cóndor Cliff-La Barrancosa dams (since 2013). Using the perspectives of Political Ecology and Latin American Ecofeminism, we problematize the energetic interconnections between work, nature, and development in Patagonia, where the Anthropocene has been characterized by the persistent imaginary of Patagonia-energy and its connotations of civilization and development. The analysis is based on short films produced by the government, businesses, and unions, as well as other artistic and activist-artist productions. Finally, this work also discusses a resistance movement that grew out of worker-led Choconazo protest in 1969, and has since expanded to include Indigenous and ecofeminist resistance movements against Terricide. In addition to its climatic and environmental features, the Anthropocene is also a time characterized by an exhaustion of classical models of Western political imagination. This article presents an overview of the contemporary scholarship on the Anthropocene and the Human Sciences, and analyzes the potentialities of a cosmohistorical regime of historicity for producing historical narratives that are more centrifugal, multiple, and attentive to the silences imposed by Western modernity. In this sense, this article supports the argument that Cosmo History is capable not only of giving voice to other subjectivities, but also of incorporating non-anthropocentric epistemological principles into its methodological practice, configuring a symmetrical theory of history that recognizes an irreducible plurality of experiences of historicity as an active part of the production of knowledge. The aim of this article is to reflect on the relationship between the Anthropocene and potential "regimes of historicity" that emerge in the present. It discusses the possible appointment of an "anthropocenic regime of historicity," questioning its heuristic relevance, as well as its political implications. Then, briefly and broadly, this article presents a possible reading tool for mapping the potential regimes of historicity that are emerging in the present, investigating their elaboration, as well as how they relate, interact, coexist, and compete with one another in an effort to assert new forms of temporalization in the face of the new climate regime. White supremacy and human exceptionalism are the epistemological and political foundations of contemporary geosciences. Disciplinary norms and ways of being call forth the geoscientist as "man of reason." How do we, as educators, invite students to analyze and act on the interconnected political ecological challenges of the current environmental crisis without reinforcing the man of reason, now refashioned as the reformed and greener "ecosystem man-ager"? What do we need to unlearn, to unbecome? Where and how can we do this unlearning and unbecoming? This article positions pedagogy as a site of disciplinary and institutional transformation. We outline an antiracist, anticolonial pedagogical framework—what we call a pedagogy of unbecoming—that nurtures an extrarational, embodied, and relational geosciences otherwise. We share our experience, as white settler educators in persistently white disciplines, of enacting this pedagogy of unbecoming and outline specific protocols we used in course design. In the end, our efforts to transform the look and feel of geographic knowing are pragmatic attempts to walk alongside endeavors led by marginalized communities—inside and outside of academia—to build worlds otherwise. What does it mean that plants—soy, coffee, wheat, cotton, lettuce and more—are growing in Near-Earth orbit? What histories account for their presence beyond the terrestrial, and what futures might they be incubating? In this paper, to address these questions, I describe four very different planetary vegetal thresholds, which I understand as geohistoric events thick with potentials for realigning worlds. First, technoscientific cultures of space science. Second, the allying of crops and elites in late neolithic plantation agriculture. Third, the cosmic and global travels of the kumara, figuring Māori plant alliances that take us beyond colonial ideologies of space exploration. Fourth, a science fiction art installation growing plants in a prototyped Martian House. Drawing on vegetal geographies, critical plants studies and Anthropocene geophilosophy, the paper is a work in speculative planetology which argues that plants are seeking to stretch out beyond Earth and enable other planets to become otherwise: photosynthesis is a vegetal gift to the cold cosmos. Climate change has been related to production losses in crops. This process has been intensified by human action about transforming different compounds, including those based on Carbon, and their emission into the atmosphere. Logically, the possibility of ecological change is also based on the way this environment interacts in its properties with its biotic and abiotic factors. In this sense, the role of this manuscript was to synthesize information that relates to climate change, the microbiota, and sensations. As a result of this research, information can be gathered on the following points: 1) there is a natural interaction between sensations and the microorganisms that survived in them and their surroundings, which allowed natural selection and co-evolution between these groups of living beings; 2) the possibility of ecological changes promoted by climate change can cause several problems in natural environments; 3) poorly managed agroecosystems are not resilient to climate change and 4) literature that deals with sustainable production conditions to climate change is incipient, with an emphasis on seeds and microorganisms. The possibility of studies that relate the factors described in this research can be useful for improving the conservation of ecological environments, even in production processes, and agroecosystems as they can be described. This article seeks to discuss the educational field in the Anthropocene, a time when human presence, especially in the last 2 centuries, has been causing catastrophic impacts on the life of the planet. To this end, it problematizes the modern Western tradition of thought, which places the human (a type of human) at the center of the world and does not consider that other beings have historicity and, therefore, as agent beings. It takes the forest as an in-between place that allows the elaboration of other and new subjectivation strategies in this world in ruins. Finally, it explores some possibilities of composition between the educational field, notably governed by a Eurocentric view of the world, and Amerindian thought, as a way of conjecturing another possible world for humans and extra-humans. We will structure this work in four fundamental moments. A first moment, where we will expose different narratives of the Anthropocene. All of them start from different epistemological assumptions and approach different political proposals to think about the alternatives. We will also propose how we understand the Anthropocene and what potential it holds for thinking about transitions. In a second moment, we will talk about the ambivalence of the Anthropocene, that new condition that gives the human being the ability to be a geological force which implies an unprecedented power, but ambivalent, to the extent that it may imply its own destruction. The conscious understanding of the status of this ambivalence is a condition for the possibility of beginning to think about responsibilities in a different way. In a third moment, we will propose the figure of the decentered anthropos as a symbolic expression to perceive, both the importance of the human being to think about other ways of living and transiting, as well as to apprehend the radical vulnerability that characterizes us, a necessary condition to think about any form of responsibility. We will lay special emphasis on "biocentric paradigm", as a place from which to enunciate the criticism of "anthropocentric paradigm", its demands and proposals. Finally, and in a more proactive way, we will try to formulate the normative foundations of the responsibility(es) in the Anthropocene, starting from the moral universe that the ecosystemic fracture with which we live shows us. Technology can be used in pedagogical ways to improve the research skills and critical thinking of college students when they reflect on the causes and effects of the Anthropocene and climate change. This article analyzes a strategy implemented in the second semester of 2021 with twenty-seven (27) students enrolled in a lecture course entitled Saint Albertus Magnus: Science, Technology, and Bioethics, which is part of the Bachelor of Engineering program offered by Saint Thomas Aquinas University in Tunja. First, this article discusses some definitions of the Anthropocene and climate change, giving the reader some context about their impact and consequences in regions in South and Central America. Second, it presents arguments for using certain technological applications as pedagogical mediators that enable students to get closer to research from a pragmatic perspective. In conclusion, some technological applications such as Google Earth--accompanied by several types of questions--spark students' curiosity, interest, and amazement, bringing them closer to science. These applications, in combination, contribute to their critical-reflective thinking about these phenomena that threaten and put life at risk on a planetary scale. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The encounter with the new world is an important starting point for discussing the cultural bases of the Anthropocene. Consequently, this fundamental debate should start by relocating modernity and thereby providing a different cartography for the expression of certain ideas and values that have fueled the environmental crisis. Inside this debate, we present some differences with Arias Maldonado's position, especially regarding the place from which he expresses his ideas. Among the multiple aspects derived from this discussion, this paper ponders on some comments on the Cartesian ego--the fundamental pillar of modernity--from the decolonial perspective proposed by Dussel (according to whom coloniality is constitutive of modernity rather than derivative). From this point of view, this article suggests that the fundamental problem that prepared the ground for the Anthropocene is modernity in its colonial sense. In addition, it proposes that it would be more appropriate to refer to a modern Anthropocene or modern European Anthropocene instead of the universalist concept of Anthropocene. This article reflects on the Anthropocene against the backdrop of armed conflict. 2 To this end, it analyses two mining projects: one in southwestern Antioquia in Colombia and the other in the Luhwindja Chiefdom in the Democratic Republic of Congo. After examining the post-agreement and post-war political contexts of each country, this paper describes the extraction projects implemented in the territories, as well as the forms of resistance of the local populations. It also depicts the reconstruction of the territory as a place for cognitive production, affective participation, and discursive imagination. The Russian aggression against Ukraine is a conflict that goes beyond, in common perception, the "ordinariness" of wars and it strikes us because, in our not yet post-colonial consciousness, it is perceived as "European". Analyzes based on the strategy and characteristics of international systems are insufficient. A deeper, radical level is needed. Beyond the union between fear and boundaries, the real fault line in the world politics passes between geopolitics and biopolitics. The fundamental theme is that of man's life on earth, of his existence, of the conditions of the human dignity, of fundamental human rights, including the right to peace and the trans-generational right to planetary integrity. Assuming the intimate relations between nature and politics, this text analyzes the narratives and processes by which certain cosmopolitics relate in the geological epoch of the Anthropocene. Departing from recent news of a “climate crisis”, or “planetary catastrophe”, or “end of the world”, we present initially an a discussion about truth and denialism, relating it to a fictional ethics. Subsequently, aiming to emphasize composition as a strategy for shifting the centrality of certain knowledges which roots are set in modern paradigms, we gather the perspectives from ecological, amefrican and amerindian ways of thinking, in order to reflect about the incidences of such problems in a Brazilian context. This article presents a philosophical reflection on the concept of respect as the foundation of moral obligation, from which the principles of consideration, responsibility and solidarity are derived, which must be reformulated in the context of the Anthropocene. In this, the negative human influence on other elements of nature on a global scale threatens fair and supportive relationships with other species and with other human beings. Consequently, this should lead to questioning and redefining the concept of obligation -- foundation of morality -- within the framework of human relations with the various forms of life existing on the planet, as well as with the inanimate environment. This article aims to discuss the relationship between neoliberalism and environmental education. Since the 1970s, the neoliberal agenda has modified economic, political, cultural, social, and educational structures in the countries that adopted it. Environmental education was not left out of these changes, becoming, in many cases, a tool that instrumentalizes nature and simplifies environmental problems. The theoretical-methodological perspective used in this text is based on sociological and historical analyses of neoliberalism, the crises of capitalism, and aspects of critical environmental education. The Anthropocene has been considered a geological period of high risk due to the indiscriminate use of natural resources and the lifestyle assumed by the world population, to the detriment of ecosystem conservation. The set of problems requires a transdisciplinary scientific approach due to its complexity. But despite considerable advances, the anthropocene model is still considered controversial by the social sciences and humanities. Fauna, flora, environments and living beings, as well as the ecological, cultural and social relations between them and us humans, and, equally, everything that happens to them/us in given times and spaces, are articulated with what we call Science and/or Biology education in the scope of school and university education. In this essay, I offer a description of the way in which the future is imagined within animal rights literature, specifically by authors who are located within the so-called political turn in animal ethics. In the Anthropocene, a term that designates our geological era, characterized by the influence of the human species on the Earth System, the future seems to have been eclipsed, so much so that it is only conceivable for many as catastrophe. Through the exposition of different multispecies political imaginaries, concretized in the theoretical construction of zoodemocracies of the future, here I give an account of an emerging literature about political utopias characterized by the criticism of human exceptionalism. Global pandemics and natural disasters have changed the ways of living and thinking and have given rise to various discourses on the collapse of the world. The omnipresence of the idea of "crisis" has led to several questionings that cut across different areas of knowledge. This article explores the challenges that the present time poses to the ways of thinking and writing history and undertakes a problematization of its assumptions, methodologies, and practices. It aims to conduct an exploratory route around some authors and ideas, susceptible of translating a conjuncture marked by transformations. It questions themes such as "human exceptionalism", rethinks the division between history and theory, questions modernity's time and the notions of direction, end and meaning of history, but also poses the hypothesis that there are histories connected to different temporalities, other ways of perceiving time, and re-signifying human agency. The expansion of Human Beings in the Brazilian Amazon has produced a range of anthropogenic transformations within their natural environments, which, considering the temporal-spatial amplitude of their occurrences, have aroused prominent interests, diversity, and durability of its effects. The objective of this work is to map anthropogenic evidence and propose indicators that can be associated with the precepts of the Anthropocene throughout the Holocene. The research started from the identification and spatialization of a set of archeological evidences, under retrospective, holistic, and integrative approaches of variables, related to natural, anthropic, and socio-spatial aspects, measurement and periodization of the patterns of use of natural resources, considering, as a substrate of spatial analysis, the Natural Domains of the Brazilian Amazon (DNAB). The study revealed a broad and diverse socio-spatial dynamic, with a significant anthropogenic level of approximately 70%, represented by humanized systems and semi-natural landscapes; these are often embedded in apparently natural ecosystems. In this article, we analyse how Northern Irish playwright Stacey Gregg’s Override (2013) can be read through the lens of the Anthropocene, a term from the geological sciences that has been appropriated by the humanities to question issues of human exceptionalism. Firstly, we examine the ways in which the play, by means of Vi and Mark’s failed attempt to escape technological misuse, challenges the nature/culture dichotomy, which is central to the instrumentalisation of nature for human domination Secondly, we consider how ecogrief comes with the loss of social and humanistic elements that were once grounding and grounded, but are now unstable and murky, such as the idea of what entails a human being. A Plantationocene is a threshold for understanding planetary change. Rather than attributing environmental transformations to the universal agency of humankind, a Plantationocene grounds the alteration of landscape in histories of colonialism and race, and takes the plantation to be a pivotal engine for producing novel but fraught natures. This article develops a vegetal geography of a Plantationocene, engaging relations between plants and people as well as the role plants play as mediators of habitability in a landscape. It argues that such geographies influence and are underscored by the exploitation of labor, violent enclosures of land, and the quest to profit from both human and other-than-human life. Vegetal geographies are tracked in three conceptual registers: the vegetal agency of plants put into circulation by plantations, vegetal economies centered on labor power and the work plants do, as well as the vegetal politics of landscape change proceeding though an ecology of relations and the asymmetric exercise of power. This reading of a Plantationocene and its vegetal geographies brings scholarship on planetary transformations into closer dialogue with colonial history and postcolonial political economy. The paper focuses on deep geological repositories, designed for safe long-term storage of nuclear waste, and analyses the RK&M project, which considers how these sites could be marked and remembered for imagined futures. The project, it is argued, mirrors some of the universalising problems of the term “Anthropocene”. Counter to this, the author describes the ongoing art research project Pazugoo, which draws on myths of flight and the earth, local to specific radioactive burial sites, generating digital designs for composite demons, which are figures of personification for the waste, buried for future unearthing, unknown by whom or by what. The addressee of the work differs from the imagined addressee of the RK&M project, offering a speculative viewpoint on the present moment, in its entanglement with deep times past and future. This experimental article departs from the current controversy of the Anthropocene to reflect on alternatives to modern Western rationality, highlighting the need to develop non-modern ontologies to face the current climate and environmental crisis. A series of heterogeneous examples are used – from contemplative practices, altered states of consciousness to planetary models – to reflect on the connection between humans, terrestrial systems and their bodies. These examples are seen as allegories that put us face to face with the disruptive character of the Anthropocene, contrasting with the dominant ontologies of Western modernity. The article aims to carry out a performative and provocative exercise to produce alternative ways of “reacting” to the Anthropocene beyond cognition and representation, combining different epistemological and disciplinary registers – sometimes within the limits of conventional academic language – that are understood as lines of escape, thus launching the motto for this issue of e-cadernos CES. This article identifies a remarkable degree of consilience between aspects of classical Jungian theory, dual-aspect monism, Earth System science and deep ecology, despite their mostly independent formulation. The resulting synergy offers a radically different and urgently needed worldview based on respectful relationship with, rather than hubristic domination of, the other-than-human world. This metanoia, rooted in psychology, science and metaphysics, informs practical change without being conventionally political or moralistic. Circumscribing the Pauli-Jung conjecture to our inner and outer worlds - the human psyche and this planet respectively - reveals qualitative correlations between their dynamics, structure and pathologies. In particular, the comparable roles of ego in the psyche and of humankind in the Earth System link our modern monotheism of consciousness, that Jung decried, with the advent of the Anthropocene epoch. This connection is explored over time by applying Jung's stages of life developmental theory, with its crucial mid-life enantiodromia, to our civilization. It contrasts our heroic development to date with future adaptation through what I call frugal individuation, and attributes our persistent failure to address dangers such as the climate emergency to a combination of inertia, nostalgia and hubris. The paper discusses seclusion experience ("social distance") during covid19 pandemics from an autoethnographic situation. It faces the challenge of some reduced multi-species ethnography within standard space/spacialization typical of Western modes of existence - a room and its window in a flat. The question of Anthropocene and zoonosis brings up the context of eschatological impasses and necessary postponement of the end of the world. The event summons up related themes from hummingbirds and other species agenced by their ephemeral presence, namely: illness experience, solastalgia, discursive drive and cloister theory revisited. Confinement or isolation, which became political - opened up to an unavoidable minimalist landscape apparently poor in animals or plants, emulating some zen garden or even a desert. Equally, it suggests growing emphasis on multi-species ethnographies involving endangered animals, 'edge' experiences, but also regarding unnoticed or undervalued urban species. In this article I turn to creative practice as a way to focus attention on Anthropocene unsettledness within more mundane and everyday circumstance, what I frame as the "everyday Anthropocene." For this I explore the potential of generating sensibilities helpful in attuning to ongoing uncertainty and distress. Drawing on existential philosophy and mindfulness practices, I employ a speculative design framework to design everyday artefacts with troubling qualities. Such work, I suggest, demonstrates the "polyarchic" capacities of creative experimentalism in devising quotidian strategies within ongoing vicissitudes of Anthropocene dwelling. This article submerges theory into the ocean in order to shed light on how the dissonance between lived experience and the epistemologically complex data of climate change can be culturally mediated to become a recognizable form of reinterpretation. By attentively and imaginatively situating critique in polluted milieux, this piece intends to close-read how photography, time lapse and slow-motion techniques might help us foreground the emergencies and environmental changes of the present by considering past experiences of extinction due to capitalist accumulation. That is, how these emergencies and multispecies injustices woven through the knots of life of the current epoch are portrayed, the political implications how they are presented and the contradictions that arise from them. This will be done by placing theory in the images presented in Chris Jordan's Albatross (2017) and Jeff Orlowski & XL Catlin Seaview Survey's Chasing Coral (2017). Finally, this text tries to exemplify how we might be living in the Necrocene, the age of extinction, which leaves nothing but ruins in its wake. In this article, we take the notion of ruination beyond crumbling built structures and use it to explore contemporary trashscapes. With the waste produced by humanity scaling up to encompass the entire planet, we examine life with and in the ruins of the Anthropocene, where there is no Away to which the rejectamenta could be expelled and thus set apart from humans. On the one hand, we scrutinise waste as matter in a ruined state, subject to and resulting from a process of ruination; waste is a trace of an anterior presence that remains and continues to haunt us. On the other hand, we argue that collective wastage is turning the natural environment itself into ruins and landscapes into trashscapes. Towards the end of the article, we also stress the disruptive qualities of ruination and decay and discuss the renewed sensibilities evoked by waste. The work of Jesús López Pacheco (1930-1997) has always been conscious of the environment surrounding its characters. It will be, however, in the last work of his lifetime, Ecólogas y Urbanas: Manual para evitar un fin de siglo siniestro (1996), where this concern is manifested in all its splendor. This neologism (which combines "eclogue" and "ecology") hides a lyrical activism that goes from personal to collective experience, and tries to bring us back to sustainability as a paradigm for subsistence in the third millennium. From an ecological materialist perspective of North American origin, it analyzes human relations with other animal species, the critique of savage economic mercantilism and the environmental degradation of urban landscapes. Therefore, showing a sharp sense of humour linked with vis poietica, a possible postpastoral scenario is drawn, tinged with hope, as the only solution to humanity in the years to come. The places in which people live and spend time are steeped in history, memory, and meaning from the intersection of daily life, environmental interactions, cultural practices, and ritual. Geologic features, plants, animals, and ecosystems merge with these cultural histories, forming critical parts of the landscape and areas of "high cultural salience," or "cultural keystone places" (CKPs). We identify Kumqaq' (Point Conception) and the surrounding area in California as a Chumash CKP. Ethnohistoric accounts and contemporary Chumash community members have long demonstrated the importance of Point Conception in Chumash worldview and identity, whereas biologists, ecologists, and conservationists reference the area's rich biodiversity and significance as a biogeographical boundary. Recent archaeological survey of the coastline surrounding Kumqaq' highlights these connections, identifying over 50 archaeological sites--including shell middens, villages, lithic scatters, and rock art--with at least 9,000 years of occupation. Ongoing collaborations among archaeologists, the Nature Conservancy, and Chumash community members help document and understand the long-term linkages between cultural and biological diversity and how integrating these perspectives can help ensure the resilience of this nexus of human and natural history in the Anthropocene future. This paper aims to introduce a critical reflection on the 2019-new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). It hopes this discussion could be useful to other researchers in science and technology studies (STS), to better understand the multispecies landscapes emergence and its relations with current socio-environmental and sanitary crisis. Although the COVID-19 pandemic may be seen by some groups as the ultimate manifestation of a civilizational model in crisis, or an inflection point in the linear and uncritical trajectory driven by the modern technoscientific project; this paper emphasizes the importance of thinking about the conjuncture from the possible more-than-human alliances, collaborations and arrangement that could have appeared in this period. It concludes with an invitation to pay attention to new affective sensibilities emerging from multispecies relationships in the context of lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The objective of this work is to bring the concept of Anthropocene closer to historians and humanists of Spanish linguistic scope. To achieve this, the basic readings that have shaped it will be analyzed since the term was proposed by Crutzen and Stroermer. They are very disparate readings from a disciplinary point of view, but they give us the idea of the extent of its infiltration into academic knowledge. However, there is a clear majority of philosophy, history, anthropology and archaeology, fields where the concept seems to dominate and from which an interpretative synthesis is proposed.
