Lip print analysis has been proposed as a new human identification technique that allows the estimation of various individual parameters, such as population affinity. However, more consensus among the scientific community regarding this topic is needed. This study aimed to conduct a systematic review to gather evidence that might clarify whether cheiloscopy can be used in population affinity estimation. The systematic review was performed following the PRISMA guidelines. A bibliographic survey was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, restricted to articles published between 2010 and 2022. Studies were selected according to eligibility criteria, and the study data were collected. The risk of bias in each study was assessed and applied as additional inclusion or exclusion criteria. A descriptive approach synthesized the results of the articles eligible for analysis. Out of seven included studies, six demonstrated differences in lip patterns between different population groups, and one obtained inconclusive results. Several methodological flaws in the studies and variations in the collection and analysis methodology applied, which may have conditioned the results obtained, were identified. Although almost all studies exclude lip conditions because they would affect furrow patterns, some authors maintain that they should be considered temporary or permanent disabilities, all of which require further research in this context.We present a study in which we associate lip conditions with lip print patterns to associate both morphological elements for fieldwork purposes. Fifty-seven women and 48 men aged between 19 and 38 years who resided in Temuco (Chile) were included. The lip conditions and their prints were recorded, and an analysis, comparison, evaluation, and verification protocol (ACE-V) for lip prints was applied. Of the participants, 27.4 % had healthy lips, while 71.7 % had some type of condition. Although patterns related to temporary and permanent lip conditions were recognized in the lip prints in a non-significant way, the diagnosis of "healthy" or "altered" lip status could be made significantly by a calibrated examiner. Although these conditions do not represent identifying variables without empirical studies to validate them, they can affect the quality of the evaluated lip print; therefore, they should be recognized during the analyses considering the prevalence of these conditions. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the lip prints of Indian twins and non‑twin siblings to evaluate the existence of heredity in the lip prints of these individuals. Materials and Methods: The study employed a blind, cross‑sectional, quantitative approach with an inductive method and extensive direct observation. The sample consisted of 30 twins and 30 non‑twin siblings, divided into three groups based on gender with 10 subjects in each subgroup. All participants were aged between 10 and 30 years and were instructed on the methods and techniques involved in the study. Results: The lip prints of participants were recorded using dark‑colored lipstick, bond paper, cellophane tape, and a brush, and were examined for lip thickness measurement (in mm), classification of lip commissures, and assessment of groove patterns. The findings were then analyzed to determine the pattern of lip prints among twins and non‑twin siblings. Conclusion: Cheiloscopy, the forensic investigation technique based on lip trace identification, could benefit from this study’s findings as it explores the existence of heredity in lip prints of Indian twins and non‑twin siblings. Cheiloscopic examinations have long been conducted, and many scientists have reported the usefulness of cheiloscopy for personal identification with a characteristic and individual pattern of furrows on the vermilion lip. For almost 40 years, research conducted in Poland has determined the patterns of these furrows and the separation and development of their individual features. This was the basis for forming expert opinions and presenting them in court as evidence. In Poland, cheiloscopic expertise is performed and the results of precise procedures that are accredited and assessed serve as evidence. Although the legal system in Poland (continental system) is completely different from the American system, cheiloscopic expertise was also assessed in detail according to the American standards of evidence. This narrative review presents the problem of cheiloscopic expertise as a scientific and practical issue and provides a brief historical overview of this field and the foundations of the Polish cheiloscopic identification method. We conclude that Poland has sufficient historical background and a robust development of cheiloscopy in the field on a scientific and legal basis; however, due to its reports being in the Polish language, its absence from the most relevant specialized literature, or simply a lack of cooperation between countries and experts, the country has unfairly been left out of the discussion. We believe that a new look at the Polish contribution to lip print identification is necessary to reinsert this topic into the current discussion of a new identification paradigm. Purpose Lip prints are unique and have potential for use as a human identifier. The purpose of this study was to observe possible cheiloscopy differences of individuals with and without parafunctional oral habits such as smoking, vaping, playing a wind instrument or using an asthma inhaler. Methods This IRB approved blinded cross-sectional observation pilot study collected lip prints from sixty-six individuals, three of which were excluded. Participants cleansed their lips, then lipstick was applied to the vermillion zones of the upper and lower lips. Adhesive tape was applied to the lips and prints were transferred to white bond paper for viewing purposes. Each set of included lip prints was divided into quadrants and dichotomized into a group of those with an oral parafunctional habit or with no such habits. Each quadrant sample was then manually analyzed and classed according to the gold standard Suzuki and Tsuchihashi system. Results A total of 252 dichotomized lip print quadrants (with habits n=76, 30.2%, and without habits n=176, 69.8%) were analyzed. Type II patterns were the most common for examined quadrant samples; however, no statistically significant differences (Pearson's chi-squared test, p=0.366) were observed between pattern classifications of samples with and without parafunctional oral habits. Conclusion There is no statistically significant difference of lip print patterns between individuals with and without parafunctional oral habits. Introduction: The aim of this study is to find out the difference in lip print pattern among live and dead individuals. Materials and Methods: A total number of 200 individuals (100 live and 100 dead individuals) were taken for the study. The live individuals were between 18-25 years of age and for dead individuals the lip prints were taken between 24-48 hours of death from the dead body. The lip prints from live individuals have been taken by traditional lipstick paper method described in the literature while for dead individuals it was taken by DIGITAL METHOD focussing camera on the lips. Results: The lip prints for live and dead individuals were studied by Suzuki & Tsuchihashi classification. In live individuals the lip patterns were Type I, I', II, III, IV and V while in dead subjects the same lip patterns of Type I, I', II, III, IV and V were found with significant difference. Conclusion: The study of lip prints for dead individuals has been for first time in the field of forensic odontology and this study is first of its kind in the academic literature. Hereditary lip prints have been studied by several researchers. However, the literature shows no consensus among the scientific community regarding this topic. In the seven included studies, methodological variations, including the definition of similarity, that contribute to the heterogeneity of results were identified. The data gathered allowed to conclude that there is no strong scientific evidence to support the hypothesis of the existence of heredity in the surface structure of lip prints, since it was not proven that similarities between parents and children occur systematically in all families. Background: The knowledge and importance of blood groups emerged from transfusion medicine and its relation with certain malignancies has been proven. Its importance in forensic medicine was brought to light when its association was found with the distribution of finger patterns. Thus, few studies exist proving the relationship between dactyloscopy and blood groups. Cheiloscopy on other hand is the study of the irregularities present on the lips forming a unique arrangement called the prints of the lip. Aim: Our paper aims at elucidating any unique combination if any that exists between prints on lips, prints of fingers, and blood grouping in a specific population, which might help in the identification of an individual. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 subjects of age varying from 15 to 40 years were included in the study. Subjects comprised of 50 males and 50 females. All the subjects were examined and their prints of lips along with prints of their fingers were taken. Blood groups were determined for each patient using the ABO system. Results: Type I was found to be the predominant pattern of lips and whorl arrangement was the most recorded type of fingerprint in males whereas Type II arrangement along with loop prints of fingers was most observed in the case of females. The most common blood group in males was B+ and in females was O+ . Correlation between three parameters was obtained by Pearson correlation statistical analysis. Conclusion: The prints of the lips and fingers of an individual have never been similar and they tend to remain the same from a person's birth until his death. An association between the three things of an individual that is prints of lips, fingers, and his blood group has been tried to be elucidated through the present research to aid in forensic identification. Cheiloscopy may not be as well-known as other techniques of identification, such as fingerprint or DNA analysis, but it has its own impact in the appropriate circumstances. Cheiloscopy has been recognized as an important tool for human identification. A manual approach of studying lip prints was utilised by many researchers (magnifying glasses). Nonetheless, the current study relied solely on a mobile phone camera to visually capture lip prints for sex determination. 377 samples of lip prints were analysed with Adobe Photoshop software and classified into six different types of lip print patterns, according to Suzuki and Tsuchihashi classifications. Lip prints were divided into six sections including upper left, upper middle, upper right, lower left, lower middle and lower right. Pearson's Chi-square test revealed significant differences between male and female lip prints (p < 0.05) among the Malaysian Malay population of the Klang Valley, with Type V (irregular pattern) lip prints being the most prevalent. This study presents the synthesis of V 2 O 5 :Eu3+ phosphors in concentrations ranging from 1 to 9 mol %, using a solution combustion method with Areca Nut (A.N) as a bio-fuel. The samples exhibit an orthorhombic crystal structure, confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and rod-like morphology as shown by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). Photoluminescence (PL) studies reveal that the emission intensity of the 5D 0 →7F 2 transition at 619 nm increases with the Eu3+ concentration up to 5 mol %, where it peaks before quenching due to quadruple-quadruple interactions, according to the Van Uitert relation. To improve luminescence, Li+ ions are added, with the V 2 O 5 :5Eu3+ co-doped with 4Li+ (V 2 O 5 :5Eu3+, 4Li+) ions showing the highest PL intensity, about 5.03 times higher than that of Eu3+ alone. This optimized phosphor has Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates of (0.6022, 0.3963), closely matching commercial red-emitting phosphors and demonstrating a colour purity (CP) of 88.69 %. Thermal stability assessments indicate that these phosphors have a high activation energy (E a) of about 0.224 eV, signifying robust thermal properties. The optimized V 2 O 5 :5Eu3+, 4Li+ phosphors efficiently reveal level I–III features in latent fingerprints (LFPs) and accurately identify lip prints (LPs) groove patterns of type I–VI under 365 nm UV light, providing high resolution and contrast. Introduction: India is one of the largest countries which is inhabited by diverse populations of different tribes, castes, religious, and migrant groups. In forensic investigation, personal identification plays the greatest importance. Lip prints are considered as one such tool for personal identification. Study of lip prints is referred to as cheiloscopy and they are considered as unique in every individual just like fingerprints. Materials and Methods: Three hundred randomly selected specimens were taken in our study comprising of both the genders and of various regions from Odisha, West Bengal (WB) and Bihar was considered in the study. The age selected in our study ranged from 18 to 25 years comprising of 151 males and 149 females. Lip impression was made and viewed for different lip prints pattern under a magnifying glass of 10X. Results: There was a total of six lip print type identified in the present study. The type of lip print pattern found more in males was Type 2 and in females was Type 1. The type of lip print pattern found more in Bihar and WB was Type 2 and Odisha was Type 1. Conclusion: As the lip print is unique for every individual, Cheiloscopy is considered as a useful method of identification in forensic odontology. Introduction: Cheiloscopy is the forensic investigation method of utilizing lip prints for personal identification. It has been proved that lip prints are unique for each individual and can be of use in criminal investigation. Latent lip print can be seen on surface such as glass, cigarette butt etc. Many studies have shown a number of ways to develop latent lip prints using fingerprint powder, Sudan III, Oil Red O etc. Aim: The present study was conducted to compare the efficacy of three different materials to develop latent lip print -- Fullers Earth (Multani Mitti), Indigo and Vermillion (Sindoor) and to see under the stereo microscope. Material and Methods: A total of 60 individuals belonging to the age group of 18-34 years were included in this study. Latent lip prints of lower lip were recorded and consequently developed by Indigo blue, Vermillion and Fullers earth. Subsequently a standard lipstick print was taken from the same subject and compared. Subjects having lip deformity, active lesions and surgical scars were excluded from the study. Each sample was assessed and graded according to Renauds classification. Results: Lip prints were analysed and compared for efficacy of reagent. Statistical analysis showed significant results between vermillion and indigo blue, and between indigo blue and fuller's earth. Introduction: "Cheiloscopy" deals with the identification of humans based on lip traces or prints. The patterns of lip prints are unique for every individual and do not change with time and can be used for the purpose of forensic investigations. Material and Methods: The sample size of 200 (100 males and 100 females) aged 18years and above have valid identification proof. Lip prints were collected and analyzed as per Suzuki's classification. Result: Partial length groove running vertically across the lip (Type I') is the most common (28.5%) lip print that is seen in the whole lip of the New Delhi population in visible lip prints. Conclusion: The study was conducted with the aim to determine the most common lip print pattern on the whole lip. According to the findings, each individual's lip print is unique, and the lip print pattern can be utilized as an additional means of identification of an individual. Introduction: People possess distinctive individual characteristics that help in the identification and elimination of evidence during a crime scene reconstruction. This is a study that focuses on the reviews regarding particular aspects of odontological and facial recognition systems influenced by the integrity of forensic science and related studies. Forensic Odontology is the permissible application of odontological studies which include studies about teeth, gums, palatals, and lips. It is a branch of forensic science that deals with the standard collection and examination of dental marks and the appropriate assessment and demonstration of this evidence as a form of an expert witness in court. Under odontology, there are variance sequences of sub-topics that have been discussed so far including Cheiloscopy, Rugoscopy, and Dentistry. Moreover, this paper also discusses molecular biology and facial forensics which are evenly contributed to odontology. The essential uses of forensic odontology in the determination of human remains are grounded upon the exceptional features that prevail in the teeth of different individuals. Objective: To assess for any peculiar lip prints in relation to the lip shapes of individual, and determine the most common lip print type among the members of biological families. Study Design: Descriptive study. Setting: Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Women Medical & Dental College, Abbottabad. Period: January 2018 to June 2018. Material & Methods: A total of 216 individuals (father, mother, both children's), who underwent descriptive study of lip impression collection without any anesthesia or drug, were enrolled into the present study. Father, mother and two babies of each family were selected. Lip prints of Father, mother and both babies of each family were recorded. Each lip of 54 offspring's was compared with the corresponding lip of his/her father mother and other baby. The segments of each lip of the offspring's that matched/ resembled with either of father mother and biological babies were recorded. Results: Out of 54-total families, biological babies of 19(35.18%) families observed resemblance with father, whereas biological babies of 35(64.81%) families observed resemblance with mother. There was no definite identical lip print observed in any of the children. Furthermore, the prevalence of Type II lip prints was higher type present in males and in females. We observed that lip shape 7 was the most frequent lip shape type in most of individuals. Conclusion: Lip prints of study participants did not clearly match with each other, evenly distributed in both genders and distinctive similar to finger prints. Introduction: The human lip holds a considerable variation in the groove pattern and have been used as a tool for identification as commonly found on many surfaces (cups, glasses, cigarette butts, etc.). This study was done to identify the pattern among the population and also to evaluate the relevance of the impression left on different surfaces with the standard lip prints using superimposition technique by Adobe Photoshop 7.0. Material and Methods: The present study is comprised of 100 subjects of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh between 18-30 years. Results: The predominant lip print patterns in male subjects are (TYPE I') followed by (TYPE III) whereas in female subjects, it is (TYPE II) and (TYPE I') and (TYPE V) is the least and rarely found in both of the male/female samples also white clay cups had shown highest percentage of matching with first attempt prints, while steel tumblers had the lowest. Similarly the results were observed during the second attempt. Conclusion: The present study showed that the lip prints have a great potential to be used as an added measure in sex determination. Cheiloscopy is the analysis of the lip prints, grooves, thicknesses, angles, and other structures of the lips that differentiate each individual in a similar way to biometrics. This study aimed to observe these lips characteristics and to verify if there is a labial pattern among the students of the UFVJM Dentistry course of that distinguishes them in genders. Fifty students were selected, photographed, and had their samples collected by printing their lips on transparent tape with wine 01 lipstick, evenly distributed with the aid of a flexible rod and attached on white paperboard and later classified for obtaining the data required for statistical analysis. When analyzing lip thickness, it was found that most of the students had thick lips - 78%, whereas regarding the position of the labial commissure, 50% of the students presented horizontal disposition. Through the classification system of Suzuki and Tsuchihashi the types of furrows were classified, type II being the most common in this research. Despite the evidence that, among the volunteering students, female lips are thinner than male lips, there were no statistically significant differences between men and women. Introduction: Cheiloscopy is the identification of humans based on lips traces used as a forensic investigation technique. Lip prints can be used as a reliable forensic tool, considering the consistency of lip prints over time and the accurate correlation of indirect prints to direct prints. Aims & Objective: The aim of this survey is to identify the awareness and knowledge of cheiloscopy among dental students. Materials and Methods: The cross sectional survey was done among 100 dental students in Chennai city after obtaining their informed consent. The survey instrument was a self designed questionnaire with 13 questions eliciting information about demographics of the participants and knowledge and awareness regarding Cheiloscopy. The questions were sent through a link which was passed around online through survey planet. The responses were collected, tabulated and analysed. Observation & Results: 94% of the students were aware of cheiloscopy. 75% of the students were not aware of the Suzuki and Tsuchihashi classification of lip prints. 84% of the population were aware of the obligations of cheiloscopy. 63% were aware that lip prints were subjective to change. 74% were aware of latent lip prints. Conclusion: This study concluded the awareness and knowledge about cheiloscopy was adequate among the dental students. Lip prints permanency, finger print as well as the number of easily observable and measurable characteristics have been one of the most suitable parameters for studying personal identification. The study, aimed at determining the relationship between lip and finger prints with relation to sex among Ebira Ethnic Group of Nigeria Four hundred and . ten subjects (205 males and 205 females) aged between 18-65 years, participated in the study. Fischer's formula or infinite population was used to calculate the optimal sample size. Lip prints of the participants were collected using lip gloss and microscopic slides pressed gently on the lips, ink powder is slightly blown on the slides to show the prints.A HP G3110 Scanjet Scanner (9000 x 4800 dpi resolution) which is a classical type of scanner was used to determine digital patterns of the fingers. SPSS version 20.0 was used in analysing the data. Statistical significance was put into consideration using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) when (P = 0.05 or P 0.05). The predominant lip print pattern of the upper and lower lip of both sexes distributed as Type II and Type IV which are sexually dimorphic, on both hands the most prominent finger print pattern was the loop for both female and males which shows no significant sex difference. Cheiloscopy is the branch of forensic dentistry studying the patterns and the systems of the lips' grooves for identification purposes. Different authors have studied different ethnic population but no research has been carried out specific to the Italian population. This study aimed to describe the pattern and the system of lip grooves in an Italian population composed of 96 subjects. The lip prints were taken as follows: a thin film of lipstick was applied onto cleaned and dried inferior and superior lips. The impressions of the lips were taken using a transparent adhesive tape. The grooves were identified and classified according to the classification of Suzuki and Tsuchihashi and a pattern was assigned. Sixty-eight different patterns were detected in the superior lips and 53 different patterns in the inferior lips. The most frequent pattern was the III-IV-IV-III and II-I-I-II for superior and inferior lips respectively. Background: Lip prints are seen to remain the same for an individual throughout his/her life. Cheiloscopy can be used as an effective tool in the identification of the persons from pieces of evidence that may be left behind from lip prints. Aim and Objectives: The aim of the current research was to evaluate the predominant lip groove pattern among Calicut population, Kerala. Materials and Methods: The study involved 2112 individuals (1056 males and 1056 females) in the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, KMCT Dental College, Calicut, Kerala. Lipstick was used to record the lip groove patterns and the patterns were visualized by magnifying lens after the institutional ethical clearance and informed consent from the individual. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS software 22.0. Results: Among the study population, Type 1', Type 1, Type 4, and Type 5 were found to be common lip groove patterns. Males showed predominance on Type 1' and Type 1 lip groove patterns, whereas females showed predominance on Type 4 and Type 5 lip groove patterns. The results were similar when analyzed on upper and lower lips separately on males and females. Conclusion: Cheiloscopy is a reliable tool in personal identification and gender determination of an individual. The geographical prevalence of lip groove patterns was reported in the current research and is added to the database of the anthropological data. Lip print pattern (LPP) is unique to each individual. For decades, forensic experts have used LPP for personal identification to solve criminal cases. However, studies investigating ethnic variation in LPP are scanty. Our study wanted to investigate variation in LPP between two ethnic groups, Oraon tribals and Bengalee Hindus, residing in West Bengal, India. A total of 280 participants included 112 Oraons and168 Bengalee Hindus of both. Prints were taken using dark shaded lipstick and transparent cellophane tape and recorded into white A4 sheet. Prints were divided into four quadrants and examined by magnifying glass. For analysis of results, classification of Suzuki and Tsuchihashi was followed. A p value of 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. It was observed that Type II pattern was dominant in first and second quadrants in both ethnic groups, irrespective of sex. Combination of Type II+III was found to be the most common pattern in males among both Oraons (16.2%) and Bengalee Hindus (12.2%) whereas in females Type II pattern (25.0%) among Oraons and Type III pattern among Bengalee Hindus (11.4%) was the most common. Chi square test showed statistically significant difference among females (p<0.05) and in third and fourth quadrants among males (p<0.01) of both ethnic groups. Our investigation clearly demonstrated sex and ethnic variations in LPP. Background: The wrinkles and grooves on the labial mucosa called sulci labiorum forms a characteristic pattern called as lip prints. The study of lip print is cheiloscopy it is used as an identification tool in the forensic department these days since lip prints are unique as fingerprints in each individual’s. Aim: The aim of the study was to compare the lip prints of North Indians and South Indians and to analyze its uniqueness. Materials and Methods: The study group consists of 100 people, which included both 50 North Indians and 50 South Indians. The subjects had no lesions on their lips and they were not sensitive to lipsticks. A single coat of lipstick was applied on the subject’s lips evenly, not too thick. The subjects were asked to keep their lips in a closed and resting state, and a strip of cellophane tape was used to take the lip print impression. The grooves and furrows in the impression were clearly examined using a magnifying glass, and the type of lip print was identified. The number of lines and furrows, length, branching, and combination was noted and recorded. Then, the lip prints were compiled, analyzed, and interpreted. Results: Lip prints are unique like our thumbprint and in correlation of lip prints among North Indians and South Indian, Type 2 was dominant in North Indian upper right lip; Type 1a was dominant in South Indian. Type 1a was dominant in both North Indian and South Indian upper left lip. Type 2 was dominant in both North Indian and South Indian lower right lip Type 2 was dominant in North Indian lower left lip; Type 1a was dominant in South Indian lower left lip. Personal identity is an attribute of a mankind which makes him or her unique. Cheiloscopy is one of the sciences which is used to study and examine the lip prints pattern in order to establish the personal identity in Forensic Medicine. Objective: To categorize lip patterns in female population of different divisions of Punjab, Pakistan according to Suzuki and Tsuchihashi's classification. Study Design: Descriptive, Cross-sectional study. Setting: The present study was conducted on 357 female medical students of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of University Medical and Dental College, Faisalabad in the department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology. Period: March-June, 2018. Materials and Methods: After obtaining informed consent students were asked to stand erect and their lip prints were taken on the glass slide. Next carbon black powder was dispensed on the slide and the latent lip print pattern was obtained. The slide was preserved by using cellophane tape and lip print patterns were scanned. These patterns were then categorized according to Suzuki and Tsuchihashi's classification by using Software Adobe Photoshop version 6.0. Results: The results showed that most participants were from central Punjab (70%) followed by Southern Punjab (19%), Western Punjab (9.6%) and Northern Punjab (1.4%). The most common lip print pattern was Type I (66%), second was Type II (17.3%), then Type IV (7.1%), after that Type III (5.1%), Type I'(2.5%) & last was Type V (1.7%). Aim: The aim is to study the different patterns and uniqueness of the lip prints in relation to gender significance. Objective: The present study is to analyze the different patterns, uniqueness in different individual on the basis of lip prints. The objective of the study was to specify the method with the highest probability of correct sex identification based on lip furrow pattern. Three methods were verified: Vahanwala's method, identification based on the mid-section of lower lip print and our own method. The examined group included 242 persons aged 15- 30 years, 68.6% females and 31.4% males. Cheilograms were taken with the method proposed by Vanahwala, modified in such a way that the prints of lower and upper lips were taken separately. The lip furrow patterns were classified according to Suzuki and Tsuchihashi, modified to include horizontal furrows which were considered by Renaud. In all the quadrants patterns II, III and VI prevailed among males and patterns I, I' and II among females. Females were more frequently diagnosed correctly than males. This study aimed to develop and to assess an algorithm to facilitate lip print visualization, and to digitally analyze lip prints on different supports, by superimposition. It also aimed to classify lip prints according to sex. A batch image processing algorithm was developed, which facilitated the identification and extraction of information about lip grooves. However, it performed better for lip print images with a uniform background. Paper and glass slab allowed more correct identifications than glass and the both sides of compact disks. There was no significant difference between the type of support and the amount of matching structures located in the middle area of the lower lip. There was no evidence of association between types of lip grooves and sex. Lip groove patterns of type III and type I were the most common for both sexes. On the red part of the human lips there is a system of grooves which creates a characteristic pattern that is unique for every person. Based on its uniqueness, durability, constancy and rehabilitation capabilities, lip prints are recommended as an appropriate method in the process of personal identification. We focused on determining the most frequently occurring pattern and on intersexual differences in lip prints in the population studied. We obtained the lip prints from 100 individuals (50 men and 50 women) at the aged of 18-40. We took the prints on the paper with a lipstick and an adhesive tape and evaluated them according to the Suzuki and Tsuchihashi classification. The most common pattern in the entire sample was type II (branched grooves), which also dominated by men and for women it was type I (complete vertical). Overall, we recorded the lowest occurrence in type I' (incomplete vertical) and type V (indeterminate). By statistical analysis, we found the difference between men and women, which has shown mainly on the upper lip in the first and second quadrant. Background: Establishment of individuality is the basic concept of the humanity, which formulates personal identity. Forensic medicine is basically the science of identification and during last few decades multiple research work has been conducted for detection of different methods of identification to establish a baseline of identity e.g. dental data, fingerprinting, DNA analysis, anthropometry, identification of sex, assessment of age, determination of height and blood groups identification. Among these, DNA analysis and dental data provide easiest identifications, however, these techniques are expensive and not readily available necessitating additional techniques for identification. One of such novel approach is cheiloscopy i.e. study of lip print patterns. Methodology: In order to investigate the lip prints-based identification, a study was conducted in the Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical College, Lahore. A total of 125 female and 125 male student subjects were selected from all years of MBBS students Session 2016. Results: After detailed study and evaluation of lip patterns of 250 subjects, 96 males and 105 females were correctly identified based upon lip prints. lip print patterns, fingerprint patterns in relation to gender and ABO Rh blood groups among a semi-urban population of Sriganganagar, Rajasthan. Materials and methods. The study was conducted on 1200 healthy volunteers aged 18-30 years. The cheiloscopic and dermatographic data of each subject were obtained and were analysed according to the Suzuki and Tsuchihashi and Henry systems of classification, respectively. Two forensic experts analyzed the patterns independently. The ABO Rh blood group was also recorded for each subject. The Chi square statistical analysis was done and tests were considered significant when p value <0.001 and Cohen kappa test was applied to analyze inter-observer reliability. Results. The B+ blood group was noted as most common in both genders while least common were A- among males and AB- in females. Type II lip pattern was most predominant while the least common was Type I' in males and Type I' and Type V in females. The UL fingerprint pattern was the most common, while RL was least noted in both genders. All the fingerprint patterns showed correlation with different lip print patterns. A correlation was found between different blood groups and lip print patterns except Type I (vertical) lip pattern. A positive correlation was observed between all the blood groups and fingerprint patterns, except for RL pattern. Conclusion. There is an association between lip print patterns, fingerprint patterns and ABO blood groups in both the genders. Thus, correlating the uniqueness of these physical evidences sometimes helps the forensic team members in accurate personal identification or it can at least narrow the search for an individual where there are no possible data referring to the identity of the subject. Background: Lip prints are the normal lines and fissures in the form of wrinkles and grooves present in the zone of transition of human lip, between the inner labial mucosa and outer skin. Yasuo Tsuchihashi presented a standardized classification of his own, for different types of lip print. He has classified lip prints into five types, which forms the basis of categorizing lip prints. Personal identification plays an inevitable role in forensic investigation. Lip print is one of the evidences that can be left in the crime scene, which helps in identification purpose. Aim: Present study was undertaken to provide deeper inside view of use of cheiloscopy in personal identification, focusing on sex variability of lip print patterns. This study was conducted to identify the pattern of lip prints and whether any sexual difference exists in lip prints in north India. Materials And Methods: Among the medical students studying in SGRR medical college, Dehradun who were native of north India were selected for the study. The cross-sectional study was conducted among 119 (65 males and 54 females) subjects of age 20-28 years, residing in different areas of north India. Frequency distribution and Chi-square test were used for data analysis by SPSS software. Applying the Chi-Square test, statistically significant differences (p < 0.001) were observed between male and female lip print patterns in middle 10 mm of the lower lip. Results: The most common lip print pattern in entire population was Type I (38%). Significant difference was found in the distribution of lip print patterns among males and females in the entire population, group I and group II, respectively (P < 0.001). Conclusion: This study shows that there is significant relationship in the pattern of lip print with sex which can serve as an important tool in forensic for personal identification and criminal investigation, thus, narrowing down the scope of investigation to almost half. Lip print analysis, or cheiloscopy, has the potential to join fingerprints and retinal scans as an additional method to determine human identification. This preliminary study sought to determine agreement among 20 raters, forensic odontologists, using an often referenced system that categorizes lip prints into six classes related to the dominant pattern of vertical, horizontal, and intersecting lines. Lip prints were taken from 13 individuals, and raters categorized eight distinct regions of each print. In addition to ratings made while viewing the actual prints, the raters repeated the exercise using photographs of the lip prints. Multirater kappa, a chance-corrected measure of agreement, ranged between 0.15 for the actual prints and 0.25 for the photos, indicating only poor to fair levels of inter-rater reliability. Advanced forensic applications and optoelectronics both heavily rely on rare earth (RE) element activated luminous phosphor materials. We have used a single-phase green-emitting Sr 9 Al 6 O 18 :Er3+ (1–11 mol%) (SAO:Er) nanophosphor to detect latent fingerprints (LFPs) and white light-emitting diodes (w-LEDs). The X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement were used to examine crystallographic data. The phosphors showed vivid-green luminescence when stimulated by 378 nm, a near ultraviolet (nUV). The concentration of Er3+ ions is observed to affect the photoluminescence emission (PLE) intensity, reaching its highest value for 5 mol% doping. The optimized phosphor is used in latent finger print (LFP), lip print (LP) and anti-counterfeiting (AC) applications. Under 378 nm excitation, multilevel features of the phosphor-attached LFPs could be clearly identified. The high colour contrast between the ridge and valley lines made for an excellent observation. We have developed simple brush and screen-printing methods for creating a variety of patterns using our custom anti-counterfeit security ink. In addition to this, the obtained AC tags exhibit high resolution and long-term durability. Alanine is used as a novel fuel in the solution combustion method (SCS) to produce nanocrystalline Co2+ (0.25–5 mol%) doped gahnite (ZnAl 2 O 4 : ZAO) nano pigments (NPs). A thorough investigation was conducted to comprehend the interaction of dopant (Co2+) and ZAO host matrix, as well as the influence of doping on their structural, optical, and luminescence properties. The powder samples were thoroughly characterized using XRD, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopic techniques. SEM micrographs of clearly exhibit the formation of dense particles, voids, and pores in the sample. In addition, tiny aggregates were detected on the surface of more prominent clusters. The nominal composition of Zn, Al, Co and O was assessed using Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (EDS). The optimized ZAO:5Co2+ phosphor powder demonstrated levels 1–3 fingerprint (FP) features and groove patterns (types 1–5) of lip print that can be clearly recognised, with excellent resolution and contrast, under 320 nm UV light. The appropriate thickening agent and defoamer were added to blue pigment during fabrication to generate anti-counterfeiting (AC) inks that mark on multiple surfaces with high resolution without spreading or tracing. Background: The lip print pattern is a unique among individuals and thus helps in the identification during the forensic investigation. Lip print analysis in the forensic scene may help in the personal identification. Thus, correlating the lip print with the finger print and gender will create a new room in forensic dentistry investigation. Aim: This study aims to identify the lip and finger print pattern and to correlate lip and finger print pattern for gender identification. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 students from dental institution were included in this study. Of which, 50 were male and 50 were female.. Their aged range between 18 and 28 years with a mean age of 21.3 years. The physiological rest position of the lip print was recorded by the application of red or dark pink colored lipstick over the lips and the imprint was transferred over a white chart sheet through a transparent tape. The imprint of the finger was taken directly on a white chart sheet. The lip and finger print pattern was examined with magnifying lens. The results were analyzed using SPSS software 19.0 (Armonk, NY, USA) and presented as a descriptive statistics. A correlation of lip print with finger print and gender variation was analyzed by Pearson correlation test. Results: The study identified higher prevalence of Type II (34%) lip print pattern in the overall study population. In males, Type I lip print (42%) and plain loop finger print pattern (44%) was frequent in the study. In males, the correlation of lip and finger print patter showed weaker correlation and statistically insignificant (P = 0.436). In females, Type II lip print (34%) and plain loop finger print pattern (42%) was frequent in the study. In females, the correlation of the lip and finger print pattern showed weaker correlation with approachable statistical significance (P = 0.083). The correlation of lip and finger print with gender showed weaker correlation and approachable significance (P = 0.07). The association of lip and finger print in the study showed statistically insignificant. However, the association of Type III lip print pattern with loop finger print pattern showed statistical significant association (P = 0.05) by Chi-square analysis. Conclusion: Lip print analysis is a challenging area in the personal identification during forensic dentistry examination. The study revealed the weaker correlation and approachable significance of lip and finger print pattern in gender identification. Future studies should be encouraged in the direction of software based identification for lip and finger print analysis in gender identification. Background: Cheiloscopy is a comparatively recent counterpart to the long established dactyloscopic studies. Ethnic variability of these lip groove patterns has not yet been explored. Aim: This study was a collaborative effort aimed at establishing cheiloscopic variations amongst modern human populations from four geographically and culturally far removed nations: India, Saudi Arabia, Spain and Nigeria. Subjects and methods: Lip prints from a total of 754 subjects were collected and each was divided into four equal quadrants. The patterns were classified into six regular types (A-F), while some patterns which could not be fitted into the regular ones were segregated into G groups (G-0, G-1, G-2). Furthermore, co-dominance of more than one pattern type in a single quadrant forced us to identify the combination (COM, G-COM) patterns. Results and conclusion: The remarkable feature noted after compilation of the data included pattern C (a bifurcate/branched prototype extending the entire height of the lip) being a frequent feature of the lips of all the populations studied, save for the Nigerian population in which it was completely absent and which showed a tendency for pattern A (a vertical linear groove) and a significantly higher susceptibility for combination (COM) patterns. Chi-square test and correspondence analysis applied to the frequency of patterns appearing in the defined topographical areas indicated a significant variation for the populations studied. Background: The study of lip-print pattern (cheiloscopy) is a scientific method for personal identification and plays a major role in forensic and criminal investigations. Objective: To compare the lip print patterns in Kerala and Maharashtra population and correlate between ABO blood groups. Materials and Methods: Two hundred subjects, 100 from Maharashtra and 100 from Kerala were considered for the study. Lip prints were recorded, analyzed according to Tsuchihashi classification. The lip print patterns were compared in the two populations, correlated in ABO blood groups. The data obtained was statistically analyzed with SPSS software using chi-square test. Results: In our study, predominant lip print pattern observed in Kerala population was type IV (53%) and Maharashtra population was type II (42%). The difference between the two population was statistically significant (p<0.001). Subjects with A+ and O- blood groups had type II lip print predominance. Subjects with B+, AB+ and 0+ blood groups had type IV predominance. The lip print patterns do not show any correlation in ABO blood groups. Conclusion: Lip prints are unique to each individual and are different even in two persons. Human identification is one of the most challenging sciences. Recently, study of lip prints has become slightly fashionable in forensic field. The aim of the present work is to determine the pattern of lip prints and evaluate its uniqueness in a sample of Egyptian population. The study included 955 subjects (2-65 years old). Lip prints were taken by direct rolling methods against hard background and each lip print was divided into six areas to be examined by magnifying hand lens. Thereafter, they were scanned and examined by the Microsoft office picture manager program. The results revealed that the lip print for each individual was unique and the complete vertical pattern was the commonest type among males and females living in Dakahlia Governorate, Egypt. Sex could not be differentiated from the lip print. It can be concluded that lip print analysis is an ancillary tool for personal identification especially in criminal investigations. Lip prints are thought to have the ability to distinguish individuals and, hence, have a potential use in human identification purposes. However, questions remain regarding their utility for sex determination. This study aimed to classify lip prints for different individuals in a Portuguese population and to determine whether sex differences exist. Lip prints of 25 females and 25 males were obtained using dark-colored lipstick and cellophane tape. Lip prints were analyzed using a magnifying lens and classified according to the Suzuki and Tsuchihashi classification. A Type II pattern was found to be most common. A comparison of lip-print patterns between males and females showed results with a statistically significant difference: Type III pattern was most common in males, and a Type II pattern in females. Lip prints are unique to each individual. They remain the same throughout life and are uninfluenced by environmental changes, diseases and trauma. The present study was conducted at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, India among 200 randomly-selected medical students belonging to age group of 18–25 years. The sample consisted of 100 north Indians (50 males and 50 females) and 100 south Indians (50 males and 50 females). The lip prints were documented as per Suzuki's classification. Type II was the most commonly occurring lip print pattern and type V was the rarest. Type I and type I' patterns were more common in males and Type II, type III, type IV and type V patterns were more common in females. Type III and type IV patterns were predominant in north Indians while type II was predominant in south Indians. No significant relation exists between the lip prints and blood group pattern of an individual. Results of the study showed that lip prints are individualistic, and bears a relationship with sex and geographical distribution of the individual. With freely available knowledge on the investigating techniques utilised by the crime branch officers, the crime rate is increasing with less fear of being caught, hence it is becoming necessarily important to try and adapt new techniques for investigations, especially for identification. Establishing distinctiveness of lip prints for forensic investigations. The study group comprised of 100 subjects aged 18-25 years. The materials used were dark coloured lipstick, paper, cellophane tape, a brush, and a magnifying lens. In males, the most common lip pattern is Type III and Type II, while in females most predominant is Type III followed by Type I'. The most common lip print in all blood groups are type III followed by Type II. Abstract: Establishing a person''s identity can be a very difficult process. Dental, fingerprint and DNA comparisons are probably the most common techniques used in this context, allowing fast and secure identification processes. However, since they cannot always be used, sometimes it is necessary to apply different and less known techniques. In this paper, the authors describe two unusual techniques: cheiloscopy and palatoscopy. It is known that due to their special features, both lip grooves and palatal rugae can be used successfully in human identification. Introduction: Individual identification is a significant and difficult task in forensic search; it was based on logical values. A lip print is different in every living individual and does not change with time so it can be used as a tool in forensic investigations. The present work aimed to find out the correlation between lip prints and lip competence in the pediatric population of Davangere city. Materials and Methods: The study sample comprised of 103 children that is, 49 males and 54 females of aged between 4 and 14 years. The lip impression was made on a strip of cellophane tape on adhesive portion; it was then placed to a white bond paper. This serves as permanent record. In this study, we are followed the classification of patterns of the lines on the lips proposed by Tsuchihashi. For recording lip competence, we considered Ballard criteria. Results: Chi-square test was used to find out the degree of association between variables and to check out whether statistically significant differences exist. Conclusion: Lip prints are unique for every person and show differences according to the race and the ethnic origins of a person. Identification plays a major role in any crime investigation. The pattern of wrinkles on the lips has individual characteristics like fingerprints. Cheiloscopy is a forensic investigation technique that deals with identification of humans based on lips traces. In the past decades, lip-print studies attracted the attention of many scientists as a new tool for human identification in both civil and criminal issues. The lip crease pattern is on the vermilion border of the lip, which is quite mobile and lip prints may vary in appearance according to the pressure, direction and method used in making the print. Chelioscopy is a forensic research technique that deals with the study of lip prints, their elevations and depressions that form a distinctive pattern on the outer surface of the lips. Importance of cheiloscopy is associated with the fact that individuals differ lip prints. Identification of individuals is one of the most challenging part of modern forensic medicine. The aim of the research is to measure the vertical and horizontal dimension of the lips, and to check the gender differences between males and females. The study was conducted on 31 male and 44 female subjects randomly selected from the Croatian population whose lips were photographed using a digital camera Olympus μ-mini and further measurements were done on digital photograps. Maximal horizontal dimension of lips in males was 48.05 mm and in woman was 44.90 mm. Men had statistically significant higher maximal horizontal dimension (p=0.00014). There wasn't statistically significant difference in maximal vertical dimension between males and females. Lip prints are the normal lines and fissures in the form of wrinkles and grooves present in the zone of transition of human lip, between the inner labial mucosa and outer skin. Yasuo Tsuchihashi (1974) presented a standardized classification of his own, for different types of lip print. He has classified lip prints into five types, which forms the basis of categorizing lip prints. Keeping the above classification as a basis, the present study was conducted to identify whether there are any other types of lip prints apart from these five types or to identify any subtypes available within these five types. Among the outpatients and their accompanying persons who attended the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Saveetha Dental College, Chennai, 750 (348 males and 402 females) individuals were selected for the present lip print analysis study. From the present study it can be concluded that there are no new types of lip prints be identified, but there are subtypes present in Type II and Type V lip prints which can serve as an important tool in forensic dentistry for personal identification and criminal investigation.
