People living in situations of homelessness and drug use experience significant barriers when seeking to access services in the Danish welfare state. Yet rarely are journeys to services examined in depth with attention to the factors that may either support or prevent their completion. Towards this aim, the article employs a ‘service journey’ approach by unfolding an ethnographic case study of a service journey pieced together at the street-level. This is achieved through the collective efforts of outreach workers and a man encountered at a drug consumption room in urgent need of medication. The article highlights the role of serendipity in the construction of such ‘street-level’ service journeys. It thus shows how possibilities for initiating or pushing a particular service journey forward occur through serendipitous outreach encounters. Further, it is shown how service journeys of unstably housed people who use drugs are both conditioned by and come up against other shifting everyday ‘itineraries’ of clients as they seek to piece together a living at the urban margins. Relative Rota–Baxter groups are generalizations of Rota–Baxter groups and share a close connection with skew left braces. These structures are well-known for offering bijective non-degenerate set-theoretical solutions to the Yang–Baxter equation. This paper builds upon the recently introduced extension theory and low-dimensional cohomology of relative Rota–Baxter groups. We prove an analogue of the Hochschild–Serre exact sequence for central extensions of relative Rota–Baxter groups. We introduce the Schur multiplier M R R B (A) of a relative Rota–Baxter group A = (A , B , β , T) , and prove that the exponent of M R R B (A) divides | A | | B | when both A and B are finite. We define weak isoclinism of relative Rota–Baxter groups, introduce their Schur covers, and prove that any two Schur covers of a finite bijective relative Rota–Baxter group are weakly isoclinic. This study assessed the influence of socio-economic variables and extension inhibitors on food sovereignty in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. This study identified and proffered solutions to extension inhibitors to food sovereignty. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to select one hundred and twenty respondents used for the study. Data analysis comprised the use of percentages, frequency, means and Tobit regression model. The result of the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents showed that 27.50% of the respondents were from 41 and more years of age, while 25.00% were within the age range of 31 to 40 years. 8.33% of them were in the age brackets of 20 to 30 years. Majority of the farmers were very strong, agile and could adopt extension teaching methods easily. About 49.17% of the respondents were at tertiary level of education, while 23.32% had primary level of education. The result showed the mean (x") response rate of extension inhibitors on food sovereignty as follows; inadequacy of funds (x" = 4.65), use of poorly trained personnel (x" = 4.04), ineffective research extension linkage (x" =4.21), lack of evaluation (x" = 4.422), poor policy (x" = 4.04) among other factors. The hypothesis showed that gender, marital status and farm size were positive and significant at 1% level of probability. The result of the HO1, showed that any increase in farm size led to a corresponding increase in the probability and intensity of extension inhibitors on food sovereignty in the study area. Also, the coefficient of education was positively signed but not significant. This showed that education though very important but had no severe influence on the extension inhibitors. In the result, there was significant relationship between socio-economic variables and extension inhibitors on food sovereignty in the study area. The study concluded that some of the inhibitors of extension on food sovereignty are; inadequate funding, lack of extension service evaluation on food sovereignty situations, ineffective research extension linkage and use of poorly trained personnel. The study also concluded that majority of the farmers are of age and well educated to positively influence extension inhibitors with the view to improving food sovereignty situations in the study area. Opinion leaders play a significant role in promoting innovation and technology adoption through effective information dissemination to potential adopters. However, personal traits that define effective opinion leaders, as identified in existing literature, may not fully align with followers' desired attributes of an opinion leader. Additionally, little is known about how varying degrees of influence may impact the spread of knowledge. To bridge the gap, first, we conducted focus group discussions in 10 villages within the banana farming community in Rwanda to assess the critical attributes that farmers seek in opinion leaders. Results indicate that honesty, commitment, social, knowledge, and leading by example are the top five attributes that farmers value the most from an opinion leader for the control of Banana Xanthomonas Wilt – a major banana disease. Second, we collected data from 100 nominated opinion leaders, including 10 farmer promoters, using a structured questionnaire to determine how they transmit knowledge about disease management to farmers. The opinion leaders were categorised into low, medium, and high levels of influence based on pairwise comparison. We found that honesty, leading by example, and justice are significant attributes that distinguish opinion leaders with a higher level of influence and who are more effective in transmitting knowledge. Farmer promoters are not distinct from other opinion leaders in terms of access to farmers but are more active in knowledge transmission than any other opinion leader. Our results suggest that having access to farmers does not indicate influence. Therefore, we recommend engaging those farmer promoters and opinion leaders with a higher level of influence to disseminate information to farmers at the village level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Start Strong, a 4-week culinary nutrition education and obesity prevention program designed for rural family care providers in low-income areas of Minnesota, was initially an in-person training program and was recently adapted into a virtual version. Using a quasi-experimental design, this study examined within-group and between-group (in-person versus virtual) changes in culinary skill confidence and familiarity with food assistance programs after Start Strong participation. Additionally, we examined post-program participant experiences. The in-person program (n = 12, mean age of 45 years, September 2019) took place at community locations. The virtual program (n = 27, mean age of 41 years, Fall 2021–Winter 2022) used online learning and videoconferencing. Following data collection pre- and post-program, we used t-tests to examine within-group changes after Start Strong participation, repeated measures analysis of variance tests to compare outcomes between the in-person and virtual implementations, and Fisher's exact test to compare post-survey outcomes. The in-person and virtual programs demonstrated similar improvements in cooking skill confidence and familiarity with food assistance programs. Compared to the virtual program, in-person participants reported significantly greater connection with other providers. This evaluation is relevant to addressing disparities in obesity prevention and provides an initial model for public health and community partnerships with ECE providers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite the huge potential of aquaculture in the Amazon, several producers have abandoned the activity due to a lack of assistance, technology, and innovation. Thus, the objective of this study was to identify factors that have contributed to the withdrawal of aquaculturists from the municipality of 'Vigia de Nazaré', state of Pará (Northern Region of Brazil). This case study took place in 2022 through a quanti-qualitative survey, applying structured questionnaires to former aquaculturists. A total of 30 fish farms were investigated, with 11 of them being abandoned. They are distributed across 10 rural communities that have developed fish farming, with 'Vila de Itapuá' (18.2%) being the most representative. When active, fish farming was practiced by men (100%) aged between 51 to 60 years (54.5%) with an incomplete primary education (100%), who carried out the activity for an average of 5 years (81.8%), quitting fish farming between the years 2019 and 2020 (72.7%). All former aquaculturists owned small properties, with excavated ponds in an extensive system and used family labor. The absence of technical assistance and the high cost of feed were pointed out as the main problems in the production chain. It is worth noting that the monoculture of Tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) accounted for 63.6% of the species produced in rural communities. In conclusion, former aquaculturists express the desire to return to fish farming due to its socio-economic importance. Introduction: The assessment of seal pressure or leak pressure in supraglottic devices has commonly been used to confirm device functionality and for research purposes regarding laryngeal mask airways (LMAs). When used for controlled ventilation, the LMA Protector provides a better oropharyngeal seal pressure. Materials and Methods: In this cross-over study, thirty-five patients of either sex, aged 18 to 70 years, American Society of Anaesthesiology (ASA) class I and II, with a weight range of 50-70 kg, scheduled for elective surgery under general anaesthesia where a supraglottic airway device was indicated, were enrolled. In all 35 patients, the position of the patient's head and neck was changed from neutral to flexion, extension, and right and left lateral rotation. The primary objective of the study was to compare the differences in oropharyngeal leak pressure (OLP) with changes in head and neck positions using the LMA Protector airway device. Results: The mean age of the participants was 42.26 years, and the average weight was 63.34 kg. The LMA Protector was placed in 18 females and 17 males. A Mallampati grade of I was noted in 16 patients, while a grade of II was observed in 19 patients. The OLP achieved in this study was higher, providing adequate ventilation and oxygenation in all positions. The OLP and tidal volume in flexion were higher compared to the seal pressure in the neutral position (31.89 cm H2O, SD 5.080 cm H2O vs. 34.49 cm H2O, SD 4.804 cm H2O, p<0.05). No significant difference in OLP was observed when changing to different head positions, i.e., in extension, right lateral, and left lateral positions. Conclusion: The LMA Protector is an effective device in terms of achieving high oropharyngeal seal pressure. Extended simple regions have been the focus of recent developments in philosophical logic, metaphysics, and philosophy of physics. However, only a handful of works provides a rigorous characterization of an extended simple region. In particular, a recent paper in this journal defends a definition based on an extrinsic notion of least distance. Call it the Least Distance proposal. This paper provides the first assessment of it. It argues that Least Distance faces difficulties and drawbacks. The paper then goes on to suggest a different proposal, the Diameter proposal that is able to handle such drawbacks and difficulties. The Collatz conjecture is an open problem involving the 3x +1 function. The function belongs to a class of generalized 3x + 1 functions of relatively prime type. This paper focuses on exploring periodic cycles for an extension of a generalized 3x + 1 function of relatively prime type. By extending its domain to R, the result shows that every integer periodic point is isolated in the usual topology on R. Before the rise of the Northern Andes in Cenozoic time, Triassic to Jurassic extensional basins in northwestern South America accommodated predominantly continental strata partly intercalated with volcanic rocks. Coeval plutonism is attributed to a magmatic arc related to the subduction of the Farallon plate beneath South America. The basins later became involved in the Andean orogeny and are now partially exposed in the Eastern Cordillera and Middle Magdalena Valley of Colombia. We have employed (U/Pb) geochronology on zircons from Triassic-Jurassic felsic to intermediate volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks. Most of the ten samples have a substantial proportion of detrital zircons, but only three had no Mesozoic grains. The Mesozoic ages obtained range from ca. 201 Ma to ca. 177 Ma and overlap with published crystallization ages (K/Ar; Ar/Ar; U/Pb) from plutonic bodies. Volcanics from the Jordán and Girón formations are latest Triassic to Early Jurassic and synchronous with major plutonic activity. These ages constrain the early evolution of the extensional basins that formed from about the Triassic-Jurassic transition in an intra-arc position and facilitated the preservation of sediment and arc-derived volcanics. Middle Jurassic ages from the Noreán Fm. are synchronous with sparse plutonism west of the Middle Magdalena Valley. At this time, the magmatic arc had migrated westward, while intrusive activity in the Eastern Cordillera ceased. A geochemical rift signature only appears in scarce Early Cretaceous mafic intrusions that resumed magmatic activity in the Eastern Cordillera. This magmatism, now in a back-arc position, coincides with maximum subsidence of the large Cretaceous basin that extended across the older intra-arc rift basins. Background: Compliant pneumatic actuators possess many characteristics that are desirable for wearable robotic systems. These actuators can be lightweight, integrated with clothing, and accommodate uncontrolled degrees of freedom. These attributes are especially desirable for hand exoskeletons, where the soft actuator can conform to the highly variable digit shape. In particular, locating the pneumatic actuator on the palmar side of the digit may have benefits for assisting finger extension and resisting unwanted finger flexion, but this configuration requires suppleness to allow digit flexion while retaining sufficient stiffness to assist extension. Methods: To meet these needs, we designed an actuator consisting of a hollow chamber long enough to span the joints of each digit while sufficiently narrow not to inhibit finger adduction. We explored the geometrical design parameter space for this chamber in terms of shape, dimensions, and wall thickness. After fabricating an elastomer-based prototype for each actuator design, we measured active extension force and passive resistance to bending for each chamber using a mechanical jig. We also created a finite element model for each chamber to enable estimation of the impact of chamber deformation, caused by joint rotation, on airflow through the chamber. Finally, we created a prototype hand exoskeleton with the chamber parameters yielding the best outcomes. Results: A rectangular cross-sectional area was preferable to a semi-obround shape for the chamber; wall thickness also impacted performance. Extension joint torque reached 0.33 N-m at a low chamber pressure of 48.3 kPa. The finite element model confirmed that airflow for the rectangular chamber remained high despite deformation resulting from joint rotation. The hand exoskeleton created with the rectangular chambers enabled rapid movement, with a cycle time of 1.1 s for voluntary flexion followed by actuated extension. Conclusions: The developed soft actuators are feasible for use in promoting finger extension from the palmar side of the hand. This placement utilizes pushing rather than pulling for digit extension, which is more comfortable and safer. I defend Spinoza's claim that extension is an attribute that an indivisible substance, such as God, could have. However, in order to explain why, we must abandon two long held orthodoxies in Spinoza scholarship. First, Spinoza acknowledges only parts that do not depend on their whole. Second, God, considered as natura naturans, has no parts of any kind. Against these orthodoxies, I show that having parts which depend on their whole, for Spinoza, does not entail divisibility and that God, considered as natuara naturans, must have such parts in order to be extended. Along the way, we will have a closer look at Spinoza’s mereology and address apparently conflicting statements that Spinoza makes about the relation of part and whole that have long vexed commentators. They indicated that the level of service is high, and it was found that there is a significant correlation between the farmers’ views on the quality of the extension service provided by agricultural extension to citrus growers and each of (education, size of the household, number of years of experience in citrus cultivation, ownership of agricultural land, and informal social participation). WE INVESTIGATE THE DEFORMATION OF AN ELASTIC ISOTROPIC ROD in the framework of a simplified micromorphic theory introduced by Forest and Sievert. In contrast with the classical micromorphic model, which includes 18 elastic constants, this theory is characterized by constitutive equations which involve 6 constants and a material length scale parameter to describe microstructure-dependent size effects. First, we formulate the equilibrium problem of a rod subjected to a resultant force and resultant moment acting on its plane ends. Then, we generalize the method of construction of the solution avoiding a priori assumptions proposed by Iesan in classical elasticity. The method leads to the decomposition of the general problem into the basic problems of extension, bending, torsion and flexure. The analytical solutions are obtained in a closed form and reduced to their classical elasticity counterparts when the microstructure effects are suppressed. The results are useful to obtain explicit solutions when the shape of the cross section is assigned and are preliminary to the solution of the problem of cylinders loaded on a lateral surface such as the Almansi--Michel problem. The Yinggehai Basin is situated at the junction of Indochina and the northern South China Sea (SCS). The origin of the Yinggehai Basin is generally believed to be controlled by the rotation of the Indochina block along the Red River shear zone (RRSZ), which was formed by the collision of India with Asia during the Oligocene. However, the Eocene structural mechanisms of this basin remain debatable. Some studies suggest that the Eocene reactivation of the palaeo‐suture zone (which serves as a precursor to the RRSZ) has influenced the region. In contrast, others propose that the NNW–SSE extension of the northern SCS caused by the subduction of the palaeo‐SCS towards Borneo in the Eocene has played a significant role. To address these controversies, our study takes into account these two crucial factors using physical analogue modelling. The experimental results, including slow sinistral strike‐slip along the palaeo‐suture zone and the adjacent NNW–SSE extension, successfully explain the observed fault pattern during the Eocene period. It is noteworthy that the former primarily controlled the Eocene structure in the northern region of the Yinggehai Basin, whereas the latter played a pivotal role in shaping the ENE–WSW Eocene structures on the eastern slope of the basin. The westward propagating faults of the Qiongdongnan basin are cut off by the Yinggehai Basin structures at later large‐scale rotation stage. The experiment indicates that the basin evolution exhibits diachronous characteristics, with subsidence in the south occurring later than in the north. Our modelling results provide valuable insights into the key controlling factors that shaped the evolution of the basin during each stage. The timing of extensional events in northern Gondwana remains elusive. In relations to this event, a new zircon U-Pb age and Hf isotopic compositions, and whole-rock geochemistry provided here for the amphibolites in the basement unit of the Menderes Massif (MM) within the Anatolide-Tauride Block (ATB). LA-ICP-MS U-Pb zircon dating of one sample yielded a crystallization age of 367.0 ± 2.5 Ma, providing the first record of Late Devonian (Famennian) mafic magmatism in the Menderes Massif. This sample contains inherited zircon grains with ages spanning from 588 Ma to 541 Ma, likely sourced from late Neoproterozoic country rocks. Chondrite-normalized rare earth element patterns exhibit enrichment in light rare earth elements and flat patterns for heavy rare earth elements, suggesting affinities with tholeiitic EMORB and ocean island basalt. The geochemical data, coupled with the positive εHf(t) values ranging from 0.5 to 7.8, indicate that the amphibolite likely originated from juvenile melts generated by partial melting of the asthenospheric mantle. This melt was subsequently modified by crustal contamination and fractional crystallization. Contemporaneous EMORB- and OIB-like mafic rocks are identified in the eastern Taurides and Iran, respectively. Both regional geological and geochemical evidence proposes that Late Devonian magmatism in the Anatolide-Tauride Block occurred in a within-plate tectonic setting. This magmatic activity might have been triggered by the northward subduction of the Paleotethys beneath the Pontides during the Devonian, a process that would produce a slab-pull force, creating an extensional tectonic regime along the northern margin of Gondwana. [Objective] It is of strategic significance for Minqin’s industrial development to screen out the high-yield and high-oil cyperus rotundus suitable for planting in Minqin’ s desert areas. [Method] Ten different germplasm resources of Cyperus esculentus were introduced, their emergence rate, yield and oil content were observed, and the yield and oleic acid content of C. esculentus germplasm resources from different provenances were analyzed by SPSS Software, as well as the linoleic acid and linolenic acid contents, which could not be synthesized by the human body but must be supplemented from the diet. [Result] The yields of C. esculentus from different provenances were different. Their contents of oleic acid and linoleic acid were significantly different. For the 10 C. esculentus germplasm resources introduced from different provenances, their germination rates were all beyond 90% and the yields were all more than 6 000. 0 kg / hm² . Among the 10 germplasm resources, the oleic acid contents of 4 resources were within the range of optimal edible oil fatty acids. Their contents of linoleic acid and linolenic acid were in the order of Henan species>Spain species> Chinese Academy of Sciences No. 6 > Wuhan No. 1. [Conclusion] Therefore, Henan species, Spain species, Chinese Academy of Sciences No. 6 and Wuhan No. 1 were the optimal C. esculentus germplasm resources adaptable to Minqin desert area. In the community in La Virgen de Sarapiquí, community outreach projects have been carried out from 2018 to 2024. The projects had the purpose of providing the participants with professional skills for the potential tourist visitation in the area due to the opening of El Ceibo of the Braulio Carrillo National Park. In the last three years, English courses have been taught in the community with the aim of promoting linguistic competences in their tourism ventures. This qualitative research evidences the lived experiences and perceptions of two participants in the process of learning and Practicing English in socio-productive activities, developed under this community outreach framework. For this descriptive case study, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, collages, and reflective narratives. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis and using NVivo as software for data coding. The results obtained include the context of the participants before taking the English courses, the perceptions of these people about the English courses, the experiences lived in the implementation of the language and job projections in relation to English. It was concluded that the learning of English was effective and its use in the socio-productive activities of the participants. Also, extension projects are key in the development of rural communities along with the implementation of project management principles such as quality, complexity, adaptability, and resilience; In addition, rigorous qualitative research allows a systematization with perspectives from the experiences and perceptions of the participants. Background: Drawing from the different farmer participatory and farmer-managed trials, morphological characterization of farmer's pearl millet variety-Sulkhaniya Bajra was investigated for facilitating registration under PPV and FR Act with performance and suitability evaluation under different agro-climatic zones of the country for its wide-scale dissemination. Methods: Researcher managed and farmer implemented trails (RMFITs) constituted under randomized block design having five treatments with four replications were conducted at two farmers' fields under Jaipur conditions. During 2016-2019, Farmer-Managed and Farmer Implemented Trials (FMFITs) in Gujarat and Rajasthan with Farmer-Managed Trials (FMTs) in Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Maharashtra were also conducted. Result: Sulkhania Bajra was superior in both grain (30.6 q/ha) and fodder (63.q/ha) yield as compared to the checks and was characterized by distinct long earheads (64.95 cm), higher plant height (193.13 cm) with early maturity which took 46 days for 50% spike emergence. The unique characteristics coupled with adaptability to harsh environments also enable the variety to serve as suitable breeding material. Grillet (Semigroup Forum 50:25–36, 1995) introduced the concept of stratified semigroups as a kind of generalisation of finite nilsemigroups. We extend Grillet's ideas by introducing the notion of the base of a semigroup and show that a semigroup is stratified if and only if its base is either empty or consists of only the zero element. The general structure of semigroups with non-trivial bases is studied and we show that these can be described in terms of ideal extensions of semigroups by stratified semigroups. We consider certain types of group-bound semigroups and also ideal extensions of Clifford semigroups, and show how to describe them as semilattices of ideal extensions by stratified semigroups and provide a number of interesting examples. The magma sources, origins and precise forming ages of the miarolite from Qishan and Kuiqi intrusions are still uncertain. New results reveal that, miarolites from the Qishan and Kuiqi intrusions yield crystallization ages of ∼101 and ∼98 Ma, and they have a high formation temperature (∼910°C) and low oxygen fugacity value, indicating crystallization condition at low pressure in the upper crust with temperature of 678°C. The Qishan and Kuiqi miarolites are characterized by enrichment in SiO2 and high‐K alkali, depletion in Ca and Mg, and belong to the high‐K weak peraluminous rock series. The samples are enriched in HFSEs (i.e., Ta, Zr and Hf) and LILEs (i.e., Ba, P and Sr), depleted in Ba and Sr with the negative anomaly of Eu. In the primitive mantle normalized trace element spider diagram, the samples show a right‐inclined 'seagull‐type' pattern, combined the ratios of (La/Yb)N, 10000 × Al/Ga, Rb/Nb and Nb/Ta etc., they were proved to be alkaline A‐type granite. Combined the characterize of the trace elements, they were derived from clay‐rich source accompanied pelite melting, and subjected to K‐feldspar crystallization fractional. The values of εHf(t) and tDM2 are distributed in the range of –2.8 to 3.3 with ∼1.2 Ga, and –6.0 to 4.0 with ∼1.2 Ga, revealing that they were generated from the Mesoproterozoic Cathaysia basement rocks. The comprehensive research reveals the Kuiqi and Qishan intrusions derived from crust‐mantle mixing and partial melting of the crust, respectively, resulting from lithospheric extension generated by the Paleo‐Pacific Plate subducted into the European–Asian Plate. This study aimed to identify the status, determining factors, and challenges in adopting climate smart livestock production practices by farmers. Three-staged sampling techniques were used to select the research sites and 233 sample farmer household respondents. Data were collected mainly using a pre-tested structured questionnaire. Key informant interviews and focus group discussions were also conducted to complement the household survey data. Descriptive statistics and an ordered logistic regression model were applied to analyze the quantitative data. The result revealed that the most adopted practices were composting (85.41%) and manure management (70.39%) while the least adopted technologies were biogas generation (3.86%) and rotation grazing (22.32%). The adoption status of the sampled farmers was also categorized into low (19.74%), medium (67.81%), and high adopter (12.45%). The high cost of improved breed, use of manure for fuel, free grazing, lack of information and awareness were the major constraints to adopting the climate smart livestock production technologies. The result also revealed that education, grazing land, total livestock holding, and extension agent contact contributed significantly and positively to the adoption of smart livestock production technology, while the distance from the water source had an insignificant and negative effect on the adoption status of climate smart livestock production practices. Mabel Creek Ridge, in the northern Gawler Craton, is a granulite‐facies domain recording early Mesoproterozoic metamorphism, flanked by less metamorphosed rocks and dissected by crustal‐scale divergent structures. The nature of early Mesoproterozoic events is poorly understood due to the lack of basement outcrop. Calculated metamorphic phase diagrams and geochronology are used to decipher the tectonic regime of a potential gneiss dome. Pressure–temperature (P–T) modelling of metapelites from five drill holes across Mabel Creek Ridge suggests it has experienced conditions of ~6.4–7.4 kbar and 800–850°C and the growth of suprasolidus cordierite after garnet indicates subsequent decompression. In situ U–Pb monazite and Lu–Hf garnet geochronology constrains the granulite‐facies metamorphism of Mabel Creek Ridge to ca. 1600–1560 Ma. In contrast, drill hole GOMA DH4 located to the north of Mabel Creek Ridge records conditions of 2.2–5.4 kbar and 710–740°C at ca. 1520 Ma, with no evidence for 1600–1560 Ma metamorphism. Our new P–T pseudosection results and geochronology data from Mabel Creek Ridge and adjacent crust, coupled with the regional seismic and airborne magnetic data, reveal that Mabel Creek Ridge represents a record of early Mesoproterozoic extension in the Gawler Craton, during which thermally perturbed lower crustal rocks were exhumed within a gneiss dome. Early Mesoproterozoic extension took place within a complex geodynamic regime resulting from the interplay between final Nuna convergence along the margin of northeast Australia at ca. 1600 Ma and subduction to the southwest at ca. 1630–1610 Ma. Problem-based learning (PBL) has the potential to enhance both cognitive and affective engagement but has been criticised for being unsuitable for learners with low levels of knowledge and skills, such as South African learners from poor backgrounds. In such cases, guided problem-based learning (GPBL), which includes direct instruction and teacher prompting, may be more effective. However, little is known about the extent to which GPBL can replicate the cognitive and affective benefits of PBL for such learners in the context of middle-school mathematics problem-solving. It is also not clear what the optimal granularity of teacher prompting should be within GPBL. To address these issues, this instrumental case study was conducted with 26 higher-achieving Grade 8 and 9 learners from schools serving poor communities. These learners participated in a GPBL week-long extracurricular holiday mathematics programme in which they were guided to use trigonometry to determine the maximum height reached by a water rocket. Data were collected through video recordings, field notes, written work, and audio-recorded group discussions, and were coded using the multidimensional problem-solving (MPS) framework to identify cognitive and affective behaviors. The learners' affective responses suggested general positivity towards effortful problem-solving. Their cognitive responses suggested successful engagement in some, but not all, aspects of problem-solving. Although fine-grained prompting did not promote exploratory discussion, it was found to be necessary to guide productive mathematical activity. Medium-grained prompting, which did lead to exploratory discussion, did not appear to be directly productive, although it did appear to enhance learners' receptivity to subsequent fine-grained prompting. Conducting surveillance of agricultural injuries and fatalities in the United States has been an ongoing challenge, with many cases falling outside the criteria of national and local surveillance systems. In this research, capture-recapture analysis was used to estimate the number of fatal agricultural injuries in Indiana between 2016 and 2020. A limited analysis of non-fatal injuries is also provided. This analysis was possible because of two publicly available datasets containing incident descriptions with sufficient detail for case matching. The first dataset consisted of summary lists of fatal and nonfatal agricultural injuries in Indiana published in annual agricultural fatality reports produced by the Purdue Extension. The second data source was AgInjuryNews, which gathers reports of agricultural injuries and fatalities published in news media and other publicly available sources. Results of the capture-recapture analysis estimate that, every year in Indiana, the Purdue Extension misses 18% of fatal incidents and AgInjuryNews misses approximately 60%. AgInjuryNews identifies approximately 3 fatal incidents per year that are missed by Purdue Extension. Analysis of nonfatal incidents was limited by the fact that both data sources only included nonfatal injuries that were extremely severe and/or connected to a fatality. The Purdue Extension is estimated to miss 22% and AgInjuryNews is estimated to miss 25% of nonfatal agricultural injuries meeting that narrow definition. While capture-recapture analysis only provides estimates of true injury rates, the results provide evidence that Purdue Extension's surveillance captures most agricultural fatalities in the state. AgInjuryNews has been able to identify cases missed by Purdue, and this research takes an important step forward in quantifying how media reports found in this data source differ from extension surveillance. This research also highlights the continuing limitations in the surveillance non-fatal injuries and the ways in which publicly available data can aid researchers in filling gaps in surveillance. The paper introduces the analysis results over a selected number of small-scale farms in the Western Romanian agriculture, more precisely in the counties of Arad and Timis. The purpose of the investigation is linked to the assessment of need for advisory services input in solving the problems of the farmers, particularly for the ones operating in small farms. Analysing the returned answers in connection with the fields of interest or needed expertise, accounting for the forms of mutual or directional help, compiling any forms of advice inputs, including the specialised structures other than public in absence of a function Farm Advisory Service allow the development of a structured image in terms of current problems, the way of solving and the interactions among the farmers inside or outside their communities. Background: Different endoscopic scoring systems for assessing ulcerative colitis (UC) severity are available. However, most of them are not correlated with disease extent. Objectives: Our study aimed to compare the predictive value of the PanMay score versus the endoscopic Mayo (MES), Ulcerative Colitis Endoscopic Index of Severity (UCEIS), and Dublin score in predicting long-term outcomes of UC. Design: This retrospective study enrolled consecutive UC patients who underwent colonoscopy before at least a 3-year follow-up. Methods: The PanMayo, MES, UCEIS, and Dublin scores and the baseline clinical and demographic characteristics of the participants were assessed. Endpoints were disease flare that required novel biological therapy, colectomy, and hospitalization. Patients were stratified using baseline clinical activity. Results: Approximately 62.8% of the 250 enrolled patients were in clinical remission. In these patients, the PanMayo, MES, and Dublin scores were positively associated with the risk of clinical flare. The MES score increased with clinical flare. The PanMayo score (>12 points), but not the MES score, was associated with the need for novel biological initiation and biological escalation. Furthermore, the Dublin and UCEIS scores of patients in remission who need novel biological treatment had a similar trend. Colectomy risk was associated with PanMayo and Dublin scores. Conclusion: The combined endoscopic assessment of disease extent and severity can be more accurate in predicting outcomes among patients with UC. PanMayo score can be utilized in addition to the existing scoring systems, thereby leading to a more accurate examination. Summary: UC endoscopic scores do not assess extension. Our study aimed to analyze the predictive value of the PanMayo score. Let E denote the set of all unital entanglement breaking (UEB) linear maps defined on an operator system S ⊂ M d and, mapping into M n. As it turns out, the set E is not only convex in the classical sense but also in a quantum sense, namely it is C ⁎ -convex. The main objective of this article is to describe the C ⁎ -extreme points of this set E. By observing that every EB map defined on the operator system S dilates to a positive map with commutative range and also extends to an EB map on M d , we show that the C ⁎ -extreme points of the set E are precisely the UEB maps that are maximal in the sense of Arveson ([1] and [2]) and that they are also exactly the linear extreme points of the set E with commutative range. We also determine their explicit structure, thereby obtaining operator system generalizations of the analogous structure theorem and the Krein-Milman type theorem given in [8]. As a consequence, we show that C ⁎ -extreme (UEB) maps in E extend to C ⁎ -extreme UEB maps on the full algebra. Index spaces serve as valuable metric models for studying properties relevant to various applications, such as social science or economics. These properties are represented by real Lipschitz functions that describe the degree of association with each element within the underlying metric space. After determining the index value within a given sample subset, the classic McShane and Whitney formulas allow a Lipschitz regression procedure to be performed to extend the index values over the entire metric space. To improve the adaptability of the metric model to specific scenarios, this paper introduces the concept of a composition metric, which involves composing a metric with an increasing, positive and subadditive function ϕ. The results presented here extend well-established results for Lipschitz indices on metric spaces to composition metrics. In addition, we establish the corresponding approximation properties that facilitate the use of this functional structure. We discuss the tectonic structure, seismic stratigraphy and evolution of the NW Sulu Sea using reprocessed 2D reflection profiles. The NW Sulu Sea is located between the Palawan continental shelf and the Cagayan Ridge and represents the northern part of the Sulu Sea, a marginal sea resulting from Paleogene extension and subsequent Neogene contraction due to convergence between the Palawan and the Philippine blocks. The basin consists of six seismo‐stratigraphic units overlying crystalline basement. Syn‐orogenic depocenters contain calibrated Middle Miocene to, possibly, Lower Miocene units, while rift‐related depocenters consist of uncalibrated but tentatively dated Paleogene to Lower Miocene units. Thickness and depth maps of the main units and bounding horizons differentiate the Piedra‐Blanca and the Rasa domains, separated by the NW‐Sulu‐Break major tectonic structure. Fault‐bounded rift‐related depocenters are strongly segmented. We interpret that NW‐SE and NE‐SW trending zones accommodate shape and trend variations of these depocenters. We suggest that these zones may link rift segments, recording different extensional deformation. Miocene thrusting and folding in the Piedra‐Blanca Domain and mudflow with associated gravitational structures in the Rasa Domain influenced the deposition of syn‐orogenic units. Rift structures inherited from rift segmentation may have conditioned the style and distribution of contractional deformation during the subsequent incipient reactivation during contraction. In the context of SE Asia, our results support that the timing of rifting of the NW Sulu Sea overlaps with the opening of the South China Sea and the North Palawan margin, which may indicate a common geodynamic driving force triggering extension. Plain Language Summary: The SE Asia region includes several basins partially floored by oceanic crust, frequently containing or bounded by volcanic island arcs. These basins are known marginal seas and, although it is critical to decipher the geodynamic evolution of the entire region, the structure and tectonic history of most of these marginal seas are still insufficiently known. The Sulu marginal sea lies between the Sulu Archipelago and the Palawan, Mindanao, Negros and Panay islands. The Cagayan Ridge separates the NW and SE Sulu seas, which show a contrasting seafloor morphology, resulting from Paleogene extension and subsequent Neogene contraction. In this work, we study the structure and tectonic evolution of the NW Sulu Sea based on the re‐processing and interpretation of seismic reflection profiles acquired in 1982 and 1987. We analyzed and calibrated the seismo‐stratigraphy of the sediment infill, determined the main tectonic and gravitational structures and the geometry and spatial distribution of depocenters. Our results show for the first time the basin‐wide overall structure and constrain tectonic models, describing the opening and, particularly, the contractional deformation of the NW Sulu Sea. This provides further information to understand the formation of the Sulu Sea and the evolution of convergent systems in SE Asia. The main focus of information and communication technology applications in agriculture is to fulfill farmers' information needs. Cyber extension is not only for information seeking but also for disseminating agricultural technology innovations. This study aims to examine the readiness of agricultural extension workers in Semarang City to apply cyber extension in the era of digital extension and analyze the factors that influence their readiness to use cyber extension. The research was conducted from November to December 2022 at all Agricultural Extension Centers in Semarang City. A method of census was used in this study. Data were collected by interviews, observation, and documentation and analyzed descriptively using multiple linear regression. The results showed that the readiness of extension workers in Semarang City to apply cyber extension was high. Age, formal education level, training, experience, motivation of extension agent, and environmental factors have a simultaneous influence. Field Agricultural Extension (PPL) has a role in national and regional economic development as agents of change. Extension activities carried out by extension workers are closely related to communication. The counseling method delivered by the extension workers involved conveying issues/information that was achieved by changing farmers. This research expects that extension workers and farmers will get information to find out how extension communication runs optimally in their extension activities and has a positive impact on counseling for farmers. This research was conducted in Kubu Raya District, with 65 extension workers and 110 farmer respondents using purposive sampling and proportionate stratified random sampling methods. The results showed that extension media was the attribute with the highest sensitivity, for this reason, optimization efforts were made by presenting pre-planned extension materials according to the conditions of farmers in the field using diverse, interesting, and interactive media field conditions. Increasing the competence and skills of farmers as recipients of information also needs to be done as an effort to increase absorption, mindset, and behavior change, so that extension activities can run optimally to achieve the goals, vision, and mission that has been made. Modern wheat varieties developed since the 1960s have increased yields but have also brought with them serious ecological, social and health problems. Local wheat varieties must be produced, developed, conserved and disseminated by farmers. In this research the pioneering farmer/consumer communities in Çanakkale, Balıkesir and Kars provinces and some community supported agriculture groups in Izmir province active in dissemination of local wheat varieties and breads and other products are examined. Participatory action research methodology was used among producer groups and food communities. The research question was developed through common problems and solutions by involving producers and consumers during the field research in line with participatory action research. The local wheat production of producer groups and the processes of supplying their products to the market were carefully analyzed and this information was shared with food groups. In the food groups, ways to increase the consumption of local wheat products were sought with the information shared. As a result, it is seen that pioneer groups that ensure direct marketing of products from farmers to consumers, organize farmers, work holistically and increase women's participation are more successful in the geographical dissemination of local wheat varieties and ensuring seed sovereignty. In consumer groups, it was observed that understanding the production process and identifying problems related to consumption through focus group studies initially increased the consumption of local wheat products. However, the high cost of bread made from local wheat varieties constitutes one of the biggest obstacles. Collaboration between consumers and food groups with local producers can increase the spread of the production and consumption of local wheat. Weeds have a significant impact on vegetable production worldwide. These intensive cropping systems feature frequent tillage, fertilization and irrigation, providing ideal growing conditions for crops as well as certain weeds. Integrated weed management (IWM) can reduce reliance on herbicides by encouraging a systems approach to weed management. Using insights from global research and industry literature, we investigated the effectiveness of prevailing weed control methods, and evaluated emerging management practices and technologies for ongoing research and adoption. Weed control relies primarily on a relatively narrow range of herbicides as well as frequent tillage. Herbicides have negative impacts on soil, water and human health, while tillage impacts soil quality and function. Intensive cropping on smaller plots facilitates IWM, relying on multiple strategies including hand weeding, mulches, cover crops and cultural methods (e.g., crop rotations, timing). New herbicide options are suggested as an industry priority but are constrained by the lack of new chemistry and potential herbicide resistance. Refinement and adoption of non‐herbicide and emerging precision control methods into farm IWM in vegetables is more likely to be sustainable. The paper proposes the design of a seven-level reduced switch multi-level inverter (7LRS-MLI) topology. The design produces a seven-level staircase output waveform with fewer components (seven power switches), thus reducing the cost and area and improving the performance of the design, i.e. increasing efficiency and reducing switching loss effectively. Both symmetric and asymmetric configurations have been implemented and the results are discussed in the paper. A comparison of the proposed structure with other recent seven-level structures has been illustrated. The simulation (using MATLAB/SIMULINK software) and experimental validation of 7LRS-MLI also have been performed for R, RL load, change in load and change in a modulation index (MI). Field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) have been used for digital implementation of the switching waveforms which reduces design time and improves flexibility. For switching devices, the alternative phase opposite disposition pulse width modulation (APOD-PWM) technique is used at 500 Hz and 5 kHz. Discussions on the Anthropocene as the geology of mankind imply the question whether globalized technology such as energy technologies or A.I. ought to be first and foremost conceptualized as a strategy of the human in relation to nature or as a strategy of some humans over others. I argue that both positions are mirrored in the philosophy and sociology of technology through the concepts of technology as an extension and as a fetish. The extension concept understands technology as an extension of the human body and its capabilities, resulting in a local ‘inward’ perspective. The fetish concept offers a contrary ‘outward’ perspective by drawing attention to the global socio-material context of modern technology. Despite their differences, I argue that both concepts share an underlying operation principle of technology as functional simplification. Technology always involves a functional simplification of physical as well as social causality. Sociologists and philosophers of technology would do well not to give primacy to the former as it leads to the belief in technology as a universal tool that neglects how technology is not embedded in but consists of (unequal) social arrangements. We construct inhomogeneous isoparametric families of hypersurfaces with non-austere focal set on each symmetric space of non-compact type and rank ${\geq }3$. If the rank is ${\geq }4$ , there are infinitely many such examples. Our construction yields the first examples of isoparametric families on any Riemannian manifold known to have a non-austere focal set. They can be obtained from a new general extension method of submanifolds from Euclidean spaces to symmetric spaces of non-compact type. This experience report presents the extension project Minicourse Shared Hosting in Community-Based Tourism (CBT), by the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina, whose objective was the professional training of CBT groups to offer accommodation in their residences. The self-instructional course, which lasted one month and had a workload of 20 hours, was created by an extensionist student of the Specialization in Technologies for Professional Education, under the guidance of the teacher, and addressed introductory subjects about tourism, hosting, sustainability and operational practices to be used in the day-to-day activities at CBT. A learning platform was organized with videos, infographics, podcast and others. The elaboration of these materials took place during the Specialization, mainly in its practical classes, using educational authoring tools. We had 47 registrations, and 16 participants were certified at the end. This report presents the context of the extension project, the process of creating and offering the Minicourse, the activities developed and the evaluation of the participants. The extensionist student experienced the creation of didactic resources for the digital environment and online teaching, in contact with the external community. We analyzed qualitative and quantitative data sourced from the Pro-Rectorate for Science Outreach, Arts and Cultures of the institution, based on two documents published in 2021 and 2022. Thus, we explore key parameters and references essential to science outreach in Brazil, situating the analysis within the current context of Brazilian higher education institutions, focusing on their academic and social relevance, as well as potentials and challenges encountered. We then identified and analyzed science outreach actions, taking into consideration thematic areas, registered and carried out actions, collaborations with academic units, engagements with civil and political agents, alignment with sustainable development objectives, methods of registration and assessment and project-specific needs. In 2016, the Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de Santa Catarina (IFSC) published Resolution CONSUP/IFSC nº 61, to regulate its extension activities. From this, in order to encourage the development of these activities by students, since 2018, the Pró-Reitoria de Extensão e Relações Externas has launched public notices aimed at student protagonism. Therefore, the general objective of this research is to analyse the contribution of student training strategies to the qualification of the extension projects of these public notices. To this end, a case study was carried out with an applied qualitative approach, of an exploratory nature, using as a technical procedure the collection of data through bibliographical and documentary research and the application of experimental studies with student participants of the implementing teams of the selected projects. It was concluded that there was a significant contribution of student training strategies to the qualification of the extension projects of the public notices analysed. It was possible to observe this perception through the use of assumptions put forward by active methodologies, with a view to giving the institution's students a leading role. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Messina Strait is a narrow fault-bounded marine basin that separates the Calabrian peninsula from Sicily in southern Italy. It sits in a seismically active region where normal fault scarps and raised Quaternary marine terraces record ongoing extension driven by southeastward rollback of the Calabrian subduction zone. A review of published studies and new data shows that normal faults in the Messina Strait region define a conjugate relay zone where displacement is transferred along strike from NW-dipping normal faults in the northeast (southern Calabria) to the SE-dipping Messina-Taormina normal fault in the southwest (offshore eastern Sicily). The narrow marine strait is a graben undergoing active subsidence within the relay zone, where pronounced curvature of normal faults results from large strain gradients and clockwise rotations related to fault interactions. Based on regional fault geometries and published age constraints, we infer that normal faults in southern Calabria migrated northwest while normal faults in NE Sicily migrated southeast during the past ca. 2-2.5 Myr. This pattern has resulted in tectonic narrowing of the strait through time by inward migration of facing normal faults and rapid mantle-driven uplift. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Research has shown that poverty simulations are an effective tool for teaching about the lived realities of poverty. In the Community Action Poverty Simulation, participants simulate the roles of adults, children, or community workers. This qualitative study analyzed college students' reflection papers to assess their experiences simulating the child's role. Three themes emerged from the analysis: helplessness, the impact of childhood poverty, and future actions based on the experience. Students who simulated the child roles reported feeling helpless, developed more compassionate attitudes toward poverty, and cited specific antipoverty actions they planned to take due to the experience. This study demonstrated the importance of experiencing a child's perspective to help understand poverty and has implications for financial counselors, planners, and educators. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study is an investigation into two experiences related to deprivation of liberty, developed at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, that consists of an extension program and a research project on sentence remission through reading. In this investigation, we aim to understand how research and extension complement each other in the training of undergraduate students. To achieve this, we draw from our experiences as research or extension students through an autobiographical approach and develop our narratives on the educational dimension, in which we are immersed as students of Pedagogy and Social Sciences. Initial results indicate the importance of the dialogue between extension and research, as we perceive in our experiences that both are in a dialogical relationship. Research contributes to mapping data, laws, theoretical frameworks to be used, and the practices that are developed. The article presents the results of a university extension project that provided financial education to the workers of the municipal fair La Placita in Encarnación, Paraguay. The project used workshops and training to promote the economic and social progress of the participants. The results showed that the workers have different levels of financial knowledge and use different sources of financing. The importance of providing education and collaboration between financial organizations to help the workers better manage their finances is highlighted. [Extracted from the article]

The Chemistry Leveling Courses, of an extension nature, aim to review the basic high school chemistry contents that will be worked on by teachers with university entrants. To this end, we sought to qualitatively characterize three of these actions, proposed in 2021, presenting their target audience, the chemistry courses organized and the feedback from course participants regarding the activities developed. The leveling extension actions were developed by university tutors and IQUFU teachers. We identified a diverse audience in the three versions, mainly composed of basic education students and those recently entering higher education, as well as some working professionals. The students come from different courses at the offering institution, with emphasis on Chemistry and Engineering students. A total of seven Chemistry Leveling Courses were offered during this period and based on the narratives of the course participants, their completion was essential for reviewing essential chemistry content. Thus, the development of these activities proved to be a promising path towards strengthening relations between the community and the university, in order to promote actions that improve the learning of the people involved.
