This article analyses traditional and modern forms and methods of higher education that are implemented as a common part of educational process at universities and colleges. The main goal of this study is to determine current priorities in these methods and forms and to characterise the role and importance of e-learning in the overall process. In order to conduct this analysis we had to find out to what extent the discussed educational methods are part of the scientific and research activities, i.e. to what extent do university pedagogues see these methods as a subject of their research. Moreover we had to define what significance university pedagogues attribute to e-learning. Empirical basis for the analysis of above mentioned processes consisted of data gained through conducted research of academic publications dedicated to various aspects of university pedagogy, including the issue of e-learning and the frequency of its use in the pedagogical process at public universities and colleges in Slovakia.
