Background: Mangoes (Mangifera indica L.) are a widely grown fruit tree crop across the world, but breeding new varieties can take 15-20 years due to its long juvenile period and high heterozygosity. Marker-assisted selection can accelerate breeding new mango cultivars with desirable traits for fruit quality, storage, horticulture, pest and disease resistance, and nutrition. Results: To achieve this, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was conducted to discover molecular markers for 14 morphometric and economically important fruit traits of 161 mango accessions with diverse genetic backgrounds. These traits included pulp and brix; fruit weight, length, thickness, and width; stone weight, length, thickness, and width; and seed weight, length, thickness, and width. In this report, we employed the fixed and random model circulating probability unification (FarmCPU) model for conducting GWAS using 135,079 high-quality SNP markers. These analyses revealed 103 SNPs that were significantly associated with these traits. Of these markers, 7 were commonly associated with different traits, while 96 markers were uniquely associated with specific traits. Conclusions: To choose the most promising mango accessions for future breeding and for closing genetic gaps among the accessions and increasing genetic diversity, a new selection method is suggested based on phenotypic traits such as high-yielding mango fruit cultivars, number of reference alleles, and genetic distance among the selected genotypes. Based on these criteria, 20 accessions were identified as the most promising parents for crossing to produce high mango yield. Background: Blueberry (Vaccinium spp.) fruits are rich in flavonoids such as anthocyanins and have a high nutritional value. The zinc finger protein transcription factor B-box (BBX) plays important roles in plant growth and development, hormone response, abiotic stress, and anthocyanin accumulation. However, studies on the BBX family in blueberry are lacking. Results: In total, 83 VcBBX and 24 VdBBX genes were identified in tetraploid and diploid blueberry, respectively. A correlation was observed between the number of BBX genes in blueberry and chromosome ploidy. Gene loss and specific replication during blueberry evolution may lead to an imbalance of quantitative relationship between VcBBX and VdBBX genes. The analysis of transcriptome and quantitative reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction data revealed that the expression pattern of BBX genes depended on the developmental stage of blueberry fruit. Gibberellin inhibited the expression of most VcBBX genes. Abscisic acid promoted the expression of some members of the BBX family. The expression levels of VcBBX15b4, VcBBX21a1, and VcBBX30a in blueberry leaves were significantly downregulated under blue light treatment, whereas that of VcBBX15c3 was significantly upregulated under red light treatment. Conclusion: In total, 83 VcBBX and 24 VdBBX genes were identified in 2 types of blueberries. Fruit development and transcription profiles under different stresses were analyzed. These findings will support further investigation of how BBX genes are involved in regulating hormone treatment and light stress during the growth and development of blueberry. Sugars will eventually be exported transporters (SWEETs) are essential transmembrane proteins involved in plant growth, stress responses, and plant–pathogen interactions. Despite their importance, systematic studies on SWEETs in blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) are limited. Blueberries are recognized for their rapid growth and the significant impact of sugar content on fruit flavor, yet the role of the SWEET gene family in sugar accumulation during fruit development remains unclear. In this study, 23 SWEET genes were identified in blueberry, and their phylogenetic relationships, duplication events, gene structures, cis-regulatory elements, and expression profiles were systematically analyzed. The VcSWEET gene family was classified into four clades. Structural and motif analysis revealed conserved exon–intron organization within each clade. RT-qPCR analysis showed widespread expression of VcSWEETs across various tissues and developmental stages, correlating with promoter cis-elements. VcSWEET6a, in particular, was specifically expressed in fruit and showed reduced expression during fruit maturation. Subcellular localization indicated that VcSWEET6a is located in the endoplasmic reticulum. Functional assays in yeast confirmed its role in glucose and fructose uptake, with transport activity inhibited at higher sugar concentrations. Overexpression of VcSWEET6a in blueberries resulted in reduced sugar accumulation. These findings offer valuable insights into the role of VcSWEETs in blueberry sugar metabolism. Light serves as an energy source for cell division and expansion during fruit development. Cell expansion significantly influences fruit size and is closely linked to endoreduplication, a unique cell cycle variation characterized by DNA replication without cytokinesis. Paradoxically, under conditions of ample photosynthates, light signaling suppresses cell expansion. The intricate regulation of endoreduplication in response to light signaling during fruit development has remained an intriguing question. Here, our study revealed that Tubby-like F-box protein 8 (SlTLFP8) orchestrated endoreduplication to facilitate fruit cell expansion. As an Skp1-Cullin-F-box (SCF)-type E3 ligase, SlTLFP8 promoted the ubiquitination and subsequent degradation of CYCLIN-DEPENDENT KINASE B2 (SlCDKB2), thereby elevating DNA ploidy. The light signaling component PHYTOCHROME-INTERACTING FACTOR 1a (SlPIF1a), identified as a pivotal negative regulator in the plant's light response, was found to directly interact with the promoter of the SlTLFP8 gene, thereby stimulating its transcriptional activation. Indeed, SlPIF1a contributed to a faster expansion rate of tomato fruit during nighttime. Late-maturing hybrid citrus is a significant fruit that combines the best traits of both parents and is highly prized for its unique flavor. Not only can organic acids alter the flavor of citrus pulp, but they are also essential for cellular metabolism, energy conversion, and maintaining the acidbase balance in plant tissues. Although organic acids play a key role in the quality formation of citrus fruits, there is still insufficient research on the metabolic processes of organic acids in late-maturing hybrid citrus varieties. In this study, three late-maturing citrus varieties with different acidity levels, namely 'Huangjinjia' (HJ), 'Kiyomi' (QJ), and 'Harumi' (CJ), were selected to systematically investigate the metabolic regulation mechanism of organic acids in late-maturing citrus through transcriptome sequencing technology, combined with physiological and biochemical analyses. This study revealed gene expression differences related to organic acid synthesis and degradation. Through gene expression profiling, several genes closely associated with organic acid metabolism were identified, and a preliminary gene network related to the regulation of organic acid metabolism was constructed. The results showed that there were significant differences in the organic acid metabolic pathways between different varieties and growth stages of the fruit. Specifically, HJ had a higher TA content than QJ and CJ, primarily due to the significantly higher citric acid and malic acid contents in HJ compared to the other two varieties. Further analysis revealed that four gene modules showed a high correlation with the levels of major organic acids in the fruits. The genes involved in these modules are closely related to organic acid synthesis, degradation, and transport. Additionally, we also identified several key genes (AS1, BZP44, COL4, TCP4, IDD10, YAB2, and GAIPB) that might be involved in the regulation of organic acid metabolism. The functions of these genes could have a significant impact on the expression levels changes of enzymes related to organic acid metabolism. This study provides a foundation for exploring the intrinsic mechanisms regulating the organic acid content in late-maturing hybrid citrus fruits and contributes to the functional research of organic acids in late-maturing hybrid citrus and the molecular design of high-quality varieties. Background: The plant-specific YABBY transcription factor family plays several activities, including responding to abiotic stress, establishing dorsoventral polarity, and developing lateral organs. Cucumis sativus L. commonly referred to as cucumber and one of the first vegetable crops with a fully sequenced genome. Results: In this work, we examined the application of NAA, CPPU, and GA4 + 7 to inflict parthenocarpy in the cucumber ZK line. The expression pattern of YABBY genes throughout fruit development and performed a genomic census of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.). Based on peptide classification, we discovered eight CsYABBY genes and divided them into five subfamilies. Similarities in motif composition and exon-intron structure were also observed. The cis-elements and gene ontology (GO) analysis revealed the involvement of CsYABBY genes in vegetative growth and the transition of vegetative to the reproductive phase. The expression analysis revealed the differential expression response to NAA, CPPU, and GA4 + 7. In particular, the CsYABBY1 was induced sharply by NAA and CPPU but not GA4 + 7. The transient expression of CsCRC disclosed that it is localized in the nucleus. Conclusion: These findings point to the possibility that CsYABBY1 and CsCRC may positively affect fruit development and could be utilized to generate parthenocarpic cucumber fruits. Polyamines (PAs) are low-molecular-weight compounds that contain amino groups. PAs are present in a variety of organisms, including plants, animals and microorganisms. In plants, the main PAs are putrescine (PUT), spermidine (SPD) and spermine (SPM). They play crucial physiological roles in plant development, including flowering, fruit set, growth, ripening and metabolic processes. In addition, PAs are components of the diet and have a role in health and disease. Furthermore, PAs have been demonstrated to help overcome the negative effects of adverse environmental factors of both biotic and abiotic stresses. Thus, the main objective of this review was to examine the recent literature regarding the mentioned effects of PAs apart from the impact of preharvest PAs treatments, applied at different stages of fruit development, on fresh fruit crop yield and fruit quality properties at harvest, and in their maintenance during storage, with a special emphasis on the fruit content in bioactive compounds with antioxidant activity. To explore the effects of different pollination methods on the physiological characteristics of early fertilization, fruit dynamic development, and fruit quality of pear (Pyrus bretschneideri cv. Dangshansu), in this study, artificial pollination was used as the control group, and honeybee pollination was used as the treatment group, a microscope was used to observe the differences in pollen germination between pear flowers after artificial pollination and honeybee pollination, paraffin embedded ovary slices was to used to observe differences in ovary development, combined with the dynamic monitoring of fruit development and quality detection, the effect of the two pollination methods on the growth and development of pear fruit was revealed. The results showed that compared with artificial pollination, pear flower pollen germinated earlier after honeybee pollination, germinated at the stigma 2 hours after pollination and reached the base of the stigma 48 hours after pollination. The integrity of oval embryo sac was better. The observation of ovary development slices showed that compared with artificial pollination, the ovules developed faster after honeybee pollination, and the ovules developed into more seeds in the later stage. The inflorescence and flower fruit setting rate of artificial pollination and honeybee pollination could achieve the production needs. After honeybee pollination, the contents of malic acid, citric acid, and quinic acid decreased significantly, the contents of glucose, sucrose, and sorbitol increased significantly, and the content of total phenols increased significantly. By using honeybees to pollinate pear trees, pollen germinated and reached the base of the ovary earlier than artificial pollination, it could also significantly improve the fruit quality of pears. Tomato is a model system for studying fleshy fruit development. After fertilization, cell division and expansion in the pericarp are crucial for fruit development and determine the final fruit size. TKN3 was found to be expressed in the tomato ovary wall/pericarp of zero to two days post-anthesis fruits as a KNOX I class member, but its function in fruit development was elusive. Here, we found that mutations of TKN3 by CRISPR/Cas9 caused fruit developmental defects, and fruit weight was dramatically reduced in the tkn3cr mutant. Histological observation of fruit pericarps revealed that mutation of TKN3 repressed cell expansion after fertilization, leading to flattened cells in the mesocarp and thereby thinner pericarps in red fruits. Moreover, tkn3cr mutants also displayed pleiotropic phenotypes including enlarged leaves and floral organs, indicating conserved functions in meristem maintenance and leaf development. Yeast two-hybrid and BiFC assays further showed that TKN3 could interact with Solyc10g086640 (a homolog of Arabidopsis PNY), which has a similar expression pattern as TKN3. Genome-wide identification of genes regulated by TKN3 indicated that the auxin and gibberellin (GA) pathways might mediate the function of TKN3. Ascorbic acid, also referred to as vitamin C (Vc), is an important nutrient found in fruits and vegetables that promotes produce quality and human health. Rosa roxburghii is an underutilized natural fruit that contains very high levels of Vc. However, the Vc content of R. roxburghii varies considerably during plant development and ripening. To better understand the molecular mechanisms that underlie fluctuations in Vc content of R. roxburghii fruit at different developmental stages, we performed transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses and identified two significant gene networks/modules and 168 transcription factors directly involved in Vc synthesis. Promoter analysis of two core genes involved in Vc synthesis, RrGGP and RrGalUR, revealed the presence of a retroviral long terminal repeat (LTR) insert in the RrGalUR promoter. Using yeast one-hybrid and dual-luciferase assays, we demonstrated that the transcription factors RrHY5H and RrZIP9 bind to the promoter of RrGGP to promote its expression. RrZIP6 and RrWRKY4 bind to the LTR in the RrGalUR promoter to promote its expression. Our results reveal a molecular mechanism that controls Vc synthesis and accumulation in R. roxburghii fruit. The physical and chemical properties of wild berry fruits change dramatically during development, and the ripe berries host species-specific endophytic communities. However, the development of fungal endophytic communities during berry ripening is unknown. We studied bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus L.), valuable natural resources in northern Europe and richest sources of phenolic compounds, to characterize dynamics of the fungal communities over fruit developmental stages (raw, veraison, and ripe). Our focus was to examine the changes in the fruit phenolic compounds associated with the fungal community structure using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry for phenolic compounds and high-throughput sequencing technology targeting the internal transcribed spacer 2 ribosomal DNA region for endophytic fungi. We found that the fungal diversity increased with the ripening stages. The fungal profile changed dramatically through fruit development, and the veraison stage was a transition stage, where the core mycobiome of fruits changed. The fungal community structure and abundance of the most dominant genera in raw and ripe stages, Monilinia and Cladosporium , respectively, were driven by the bilberry phenolic profile. We conclude that sampling time, tissue age, and phenolic compounds play important roles in the development of fruit fungal community. BACKGROUND RESULTS CONCLUSION Purple passion fruit (Passiflora edulis f. edulis) is a highly appreciated fruit typically consumed in fresh or processed into various food products. The peel and seeds, which are by‐products of fruit processing, are rich in nutrients and bioactive compounds with potential to be valorised into food applications. However, raw material variability is often a major obstacle to successfully achieve such valorisation. The present study aimed to contribute to a zero‐waste valorisation strategy of purple passion fruit by evaluating its temporal variability and provide a comprehensive insight into the nutritional value of fruit fraction powders.Fruit analysis demonstrated similar characteristics between three consecutive harvests because variation observed on maturity parameters, fruit mass and dimensions, fractions fresh weight, moisture, total phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity was not significant. This was attained despite variable weather conditions, as long as irrigation was provided during fruit development to avoid water stress. The development and subsequent analysis of the nutritional value of minimum processed powders of the fruit (peel, pulp and seeds) revealed that they can be used as a source of several macronutrients, essential minerals and vitamins. A single serving (10 g) of these fruit powders provide enough fiber (peel and seeds) and vitamin C (peel and pulp) to sustain nutritional claims.The present study provides valuable insights into the maintenance of physicochemical properties of all fruit fractions across three consecutive harvests. Background: MicroRNA (miRNA) is a crucial post-transcriptional regulatory factor in plant growth and development. Duplicated genes often exhibit functional divergence due to competition for the identical miRNA binding sites. Kiwifruit (Actinidia spp.) is an economically significant horticultural crop renowned for its distinctive flavor, which is largely attributable to elevated citrate levels during fruit development. However, the mechanisms through which miRNA-targeted modules evolve following duplication events and regulate citrate biosynthesis, thereby influencing the unique flavor profile of kiwifruits, remain poorly understood. Results: In this study, we examined the expression patterns of miRNAs and interactions with their targets in kiwifruit fruit samples from various pulp tissues and developmental stages. Our analysis identified 46 miRNAs, comprising 44 known miRNAs and two novel/kiwifruit-specific miRNAs, which targeted a total of 1,474 genes. Correlation analysis revealed weak relationships between the expression levels of miRNAs and their target genes. Among these targets, 27 tandemly duplicated genes, and 782 whole genome duplication (WGD) genes exhibited a loss of miRNA binding sites in one of their duplicated copies. Furthermore, weighted gene co-expression network analysis demonstrated that most duplicated genes clustered into distinct gene modules. These findings suggest that the loss of miRNA targets following duplications contributes to expression divergence among gene duplicates, thereby facilitating stable gene expression within the miRNA-targeted network. For instance, the aconitate hydratase genes AchAco4 and AchAco6 were each targeted by different miRNAs, ach-miR-3774 and ach-miR-10371, respectively. Notably, these genes exhibited distinct expression patterns compared to their duplicated counterparts. Conclusions: This study enhances our understanding of how the miRNA-AchAco module regulates citrate content and provides insights into the molecular network that influences the flavor profile of kiwifruit. 【Objective】The expression pattern, subcellular localization and sugar transport activity of (Hylocereus polyrhizus) SWEET HpSWEET4b gene are investigated to provide the scientific basis for regulating soluble sugar accumulation in red pitaya.【Method】The sequence alignment and phylogenetic relationship of HpSWEET4b gene cloned by RT-PCR from fruit pulp cDNA was analyzed. The expression pattern and subcellular localization of HpSWEET4b gene were analyzed by Real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR) and transient expression of fusion fluorescent protein in tobacco mesophyll cells respectively. The sugar transport activity of HpSWEET4b gene over-expressed in the hexose uptake-defected yeast strain was assayed by yeast growth complementation and extracellular acidification method.【Result】The ORF length of HpSWEET4b gene was 744 bp with encoded 247 amino acid residues. The protein relative molecular mass and theoretical isoelectric point of HpSWEET4b gene were 27.34 kDa and 9.41respectively.HpSWEET4b protein contained two ‘MtN3＿slv’（PF03083.19） structural domains and seven transmembrane domains. Phylogenetic analysis showed that HpSWEET4b and Arabidopsis AtSWEET4-AtSWEET8 were clustered into the same group belonging to class II of SWEET family. The expression level of HpSWEET4b gene was very low in stem. The expression level of HpSWEET4b gene was the highest in fruit pulp on 20d after pollination and significantly decreaseed with fruit development. The subcellular localization assay demonstrateed that HpSWEET4b gene was mainly localized on plasma membrane according to expression of fusion fluorescent protein in tobacco mesophyll cells.HpSWEET4b gene had the transport activity to glucose, fructose, 2-deoxyglucose and mannose, and no transport activity to sorbitol, mannitol and galactose by yeast growth complementation assay. Glucose and fructose both could promote yeast extracellular acidification, which further indicated that HpSWEET4b gene had the transport activity of glucose and fructose.【Conclusion】HpSWEET4b gene of red pitaya belonging to class II of SWEET family is located on plasma membrane and has the transport activity to hexose (glucose and fructose). Proanthocyanidins (PAs) is a kind of polyphenols widely distributed in plants, and their astringent properties can protect plants from herbivores and regulate fruit taste. There is a great difference in PA composition between astringent (A)‐type and nonastringent (NA)‐type persimmon. Here, we studied the potential of DkDTX1/MATE1 in regulating PAs composition through its preferred transport in persimmon fruit. The results of fluorescence microscope showed that the DkDTX1/MATE1 green fluorescence overlapped with the blue light emitted by PA. Overexpression of DkDTX1/MATE1 in persimmon leaves not only significantly increase the concentrations of PA, but also upregulated the expression of PA biosynthesis pathway genes. Further overexpression of DkDTX1/MATE1 in persimmon fruit discs and stable genetic transformation of DkDTX1/MATE1 also led to PA concentrations increased. Molecular docking and transporter assays showed that DkDTX1/MATE1 preferentially transported catechin, epicatechin gallate and epigallocatechin gallate. DkDTX1/MATE1 mainly bound to the PA precursors via serine at position 68. Our findings indicate that DkDTX1/MATE1 play a role in the accumulation of PAs in early stage of fruit development and affects the astringency of persimmon through preferential transport PA precursors, which provided a theoretical basis for the future use of metabolic engineering to regulate the composition of PAs in persimmon. Summary Statement: The differential expression and preferential transport activity of DkDTX1/MATE1 promote the accumulation of more epigallocatechin gallate in the early stage of fruit development, which leads to the high astringency of fruit in persimmon. This study explores the correlation between soil nutrient elements and pepper fruit quality in Guizhou Province, highlighting regional variations in nutrient influence. Guizhou, with its unique mountainous and karst terrain, provides a distinct ecological environment for pepper cultivation. Our analysis of three major pepper-growing regions—Dafang, Guiyang, and Zunyi—demonstrates that the nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium levels in the soil significantly impact pepper quality. Potassium plays a particularly vital role in fruit development, as deficiencies in potassium often result in flower and fruit drop and reduced yield. In Dafang, AP (available phosphorus) and TK (total potassium) were most closely linked to amino acids, reducing sugars, and capsaicinoid content, while in Bozhou, SAN (available nitrogen) was most influential, and in Qingzhen, TP (total phosphorus) and AK (available potassium) were predominant. The findings suggest that key soil elements, such as available phosphorus, available potassium, available nitrogen, and organic matter, influence the quality indicators—amino acids, reducing sugars, capsaicin, and dihydrocapsaicin—in pepper fruits. Further analysis indicates that Guizhou's distinct soil composition significantly contributes to its peppers' unique flavor profile. The combined effects of soil nutrients, pepper varieties, and cultivation practices underline the superior quality of Guizhou peppers. This study provides a foundation for understanding the soil–quality interaction and enhances the market recognition of Guizhou's pepper varieties. The phytohormone ethylene plays an important role in climacteric fruit ripening. However, the knowledge on molecular regulation of ethylene biosynthesis remains limited in pear fruit. Herein, a new basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor, PbbHLH164, was identified based on the transcriptome analysis of different developing and ripening fruits of two pear cultivars 'Sucui No. 1' and 'Cuiguan'. PbbHLH164 was more highly expressed in ripening fruit than in developing fruit and positively correlated with ethylene production in both cultivars. PbbHLH164 could directly bind to the promoter of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate synthase , PbACS1b , to enhance the expression, leading to the increase of ethylene production and the acceleration of fruit ripening. Interestingly, PbbHLH164 physically interacted with an ubiquitin-like/ubiquitin-associated protein PbRAD23C/D.1, and the interaction of PbbHLH164 with PbRAD23C/D.1 attenuated the function of PbbHLH164 in enhancing the activity of the PbACS1b promoter. Notably, PbRAD23C/D.1 was involved in the degradation of PbbHLH164, and this degradation was inhibited by an ubiquitin proteasome inhibitor MG132. Different from PbbHLH164 , PbRAD23C/D.1 was more highly expressed in developing fruit than in ripening fruit of both cultivars. These results suggest that the increase of ethylene production during pear fruit ripening results from the up-regulated expression of PbbHLH164 and the down-regulated expression of PbRAD23C/D.1. Summary: Fruit development can be generally classified into a set of biologically sequential stages including fruit initiation, growth, and ripening. Cucumber, a globally important vegetable crop, displays two important features during fruit development: parthenocarpy at fruit initiation and prematurity at harvest for consumption. Therefore, fruit growth plays essential role for cucumber yield and quality formation, and has become the research hot spot in cucumber fruit development. Here, we describe recent advances in molecular mechanisms underlying fruit growth in cucumber, include key players and regulatory networks controlling fruit length variation, fruit neck elongation, and locule development. Orange peel, a physiological disorder, has been reported in Chilean sweet cherries (Prunus avium (L.) L.) after 35-45 d under modified atmosphere packaging (MAP). The ontogeny of the disorder is unknown, and preharvest factors have not been thoroughly investigated. This study involved two experiments to elucidate the association between environmental factors and the incidence of the orange peel disorder. In the first experiment, plant water potential, fruit position on the tree, relative humidity (RH), and radiation of sweet cherry trees were studied in 'Regina', 'Kordia', and 'Lapins'. The second experiment focused on the interaction effect of heat during fruit development and the RH during storage in 'Lapins'. The first experiment showed no clear response of orange peel incidence to natural variations in air temperature, vapor pressure deficit, and transmitted solar radiation (PPFD) within trees. However, significant differences in the incidence, severity, and timing of the disorder detection were observed among cultivars. In 'Lapins', orange peel disorder began before harvest in the green stage, 33.7 %, while 'Regina' and 'Kordia' showed negligible incidences of 1.25% and 0%, respectively. At postharvest, no differences were found among tree sections, either in incidence or severity of the disorder. For the second experiment, no differences in incidence were found in heated fruit during preharvest or postharvest RH treatments. However, it was observed that the higher the RH (100%), the lower the severity index (3.6) was for the orange peel disorder. The high incidence of the disorder during postharvest under natural or induced environmental conditions in the three cultivars evaluated demonstrates that RH mainly affects the orange peel disorder. Key message: Polarized auxin transport regulates fruit shape determination by promoting anisotropic cell growth. Angiosperms produce organs with distinct shape resultant from adaptive evolution. Understanding the cellular basis underlying the development of plant organ has been a central topic in plant biology as it is key to unlock the mechanisms leading to the diversification of plants. Variations in the location of synthesis, polarized auxin transport (PAT) have been proposed to account for the development of diverse organ shapes, but the exact cellular mechanism has yet to be elucidated. The Capsella rubella develops a perfect heart-shaped fruit from an ovate shape gynoecium that is tightly linked to the localized auxin synthesis in the valve tips and provides a unique opportunity to address this question. In this study, we studied auxin movement in the fruits and the cellular effect of N-1-Naphthylphthalamic Acid (NPA) on the fruit shape determination by constructing the pCrPIN3:PIN3:GFP reporter and live-imaging. We found PAT in the valve epidermis is in congruent with fruit shape development and NPA treatment disrupts the heat-shaped fruit development mainly by repressing cell anisotropic growth with minor effect on division. As the Capsella fruit is unusually big in size, we also included a detailed step-by-step protocol on how to conduct live-imaging experiment. We further test the utility of this protocol by conducting a live-imaging analysis of the gynophore in Arachis hypogaea. Collectively, the results of this study elucidated the mechanism on how auxin signal was translated into instructions guiding cell growth during organ shape determination. Bartlett, Hongnanguo, Korla Xiangli, Dangshansuli and Housui are representative cultivars from the five cultivated pear species that were chosen to identify aromatic compounds in fruit during developmental, mature and storage periods. We explored the expression levels of aroma formation-related genes during developmental and storage periods. The concentrations of the aromatic compounds first decreased, then increased in all five cultivars. For the climacteric pears, Bartlett and Hongnanguo, the increase continued to optimal sensory quality (OSQ), whereas those for the non-climacteric pears, Korla Xiangli, Dangshansuli and Housui decreased. Aldehydes contributing the 'green' odour and 1,4-benzoquinone were the primary components during early and middle developmental periods. Esters contributing the 'fruity' and 'sweet' odour, were the primary components in Bartlett, Hongnanguo and Korla Xiangli fruits during storage and at OSQ. Methyl- and ethyl-(E, Z)-2,4-decadienoate (pear-like odour), ethyl caproate (liquor odour), and hexyl acetate (fruity odour) were the key characteristic odorants in mature pear fruits of Bartlett, Hongnanguo and Korla Xiangli, respectively. Alcohol dehydrogenase (PbrADH-1 and PbrADH-2) and lipoxygenase (PbrLOX3) might participate in the formation of C6 and C9 volatile aldehydes and alcohols. Fruit color is a crucial trait for bell pepper. To investigate the mechanism of color formation, three bell pepper lines with different color (yellow, orange and red) were used as materials to conduct comprehensive targeted metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses. During the process of fruit development, 54 carotenoids metabolites were discovered, exhibiting unique accumulation patterns and notable variety specificity. The types and content of carotenoids in orange fruit (OM) were notably greater compared to the other two varieties. Red pigment (capsanthin and capsorubin) was specifically enriched in red fruit (RM), and yellow pigment (lutein and zeaxanthin) is the highest in yellow fruit (YM) and OM. Five modules positively correlated with carotenoid accumulation and one negative module was determined by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Additionally, transcription factors (TFs) and hub genes related to carotenoid synthesis were predicted. By elucidating the regulation of 7 key carotenoid metabolites by 14 critical genes and 5 key TFs, we constructed a comprehensive carotenoid biosynthesis metabolic network that comprehensively explains the pigment changes observed in green and mature pepper fruit. Overall, the results not only provide important insights into carotenoid synthesis pathway, but also lay a solid base for revealing the mechanism of bell pepper color transformation. SUMMARY Fruit morphogenesis is determined by the coordination of cell division and expansion, which are fundamental processes required for the development of all plant organs. Here, we show that the regulation of TEOSINTE BRANCHED1/CYCLOIDEA/PCF (TCP) LANCEOLATE (TCP2/LA) by miR319 is crucial for tomato fruit morphology. The loss of miR319 regulation in the semi‐dominant La mutant led to a premature SlTCP2/LA expression during gynoecium patterning, which results in modified cell division during carpel development. As a consequence, La mutants exhibited elongated ovary and fruit shape, and a reduced number of ovules and seeds. Elongated fruit shape in La may be partially due to the SlTCP2/LA‐mediated repression of OVATE activity in young floral buds. Further analysis showed that the de‐repression of SlTCP2/LA decreases auxin responses in young floral buds by directly repressing SlYUCCA4 expression, but SlTCP2/LA also acts in parallel with ENTIRE (E) to orchestrate fruit morphology and seed production. Our study defines a novel miRNA‐based molecular link between the domestication‐associated OVATE gene and auxin responses. Given the striking variation in fruit morphology among members of the Solanaceae family, fine‐tuning regulation of gene expression by miRNA coupled with modulation of auxin dynamics may be a common driver in the evolution of fruit shape diversity. Abscisic acid (ABA) is a crucial plant hormone that plays a decisive role in regulating seed and fruit development and is becoming increasingly important in agricultural applications. This article delves into ABA's regulatory functions in plant growth, particularly during the stages of seed and fruit development. In the seed phase, elevated ABA levels help maintain seed dormancy, aiding seed survival under unfavorable conditions. During fruit development, ABA regulates pigment synthesis and sugar accumulation, influencing the nutritional value and market quality of the fruit. This article highlights three main strategies for applying ABA in agricultural production: the use of ABA analogs, the development of ABA signal modulators, and breeding techniques based on ABA signaling. ABA analogs can mimic the natural functions of ABA, while ABA signal modulators, including enhancers and inhibitors, are used to finely tune plant responses to ABA, optimizing crop performance under specific growth conditions. Furthermore, breeding strategies based on ABA signaling aim to select crop varieties that effectively utilize ABA pathways through genetic engineering and other technologies. Sand rice (Agriophyllum squarrosum (L.) Moq.), an annual psammophyte, is a promising wild plant for de novo domestication. Although many related studies have been documented recently, a basic phenological scale describing its growth stages is lacking. To address this gap, we have defined nine principal growth stages, each subdivided into several secondary stages according the international BBCH coding system. The growth stages mainly include seedling emergence, leaf development, formation of the primary branches, main stem elongation, inflorescence emergence, flowering, fruit development, ripening and senescence. Importantly, the growth sequence of sand rice reveals a distinctive stage, coded as BBCH21, characterized by the elongation of the first pair of primary branches, which occurs prior to main stem visible (BBCH30). This branch priority phenotype in sand rice strongly challenges the generally recognized growth pattern of 'apical dominance' in dicotyledons. The sequential and chronological progression of principal growth stages of sand rice was further determined in an experimental field with a representative genotype from the Tengger desert of Northwest China in 2023. The establishment of BBCH scale of sand rice lays a methodological foundation for morphological assessment among different germplasms and between wild‐type and mutant plants. Highbush blueberries (Vaccinium spp.) are cultivated crop plants worldwide and they are still gaining importance. However, a common uniform description of the phenological development was missing so far. In this work, a specific code is presented, based on the decimal BBCH scale. The BBCH scale comprises the macrostages 0–9, with macrostage 4 being omitted here, because it has no relevance for blueberry crops grown in the field. Each macrostage is subdivided in several microstages, each describing a notable developmental stage. The BBCH code takes special reference to the fruit development, fruit ripening, and several fruit pickings, which are typical for blueberries. For each macrostage the main development as well as cultivation characteristics are explained in more detail. The new BBCH code is compared with other descriptions of phenotypical development of highbush blueberries and transformations are suggested. The hormonal variation essential for fruit set differs regarding crop species. Parthenocarpy is a key trait to reduce the climate dependency of fruit crops. Two distinct molecular mechanisms lead to a gibberellin-induced fruit setting. Transcription factors and miRNA interactions control parthenocarpy in several species. Fruit development is essential for flowering plants' reproduction and a significant food source. Climate change threatens fruit yields due to its impact on pollination and fertilization processes, especially vulnerable to extreme temperatures, insufficient light, and pollinator decline. Parthenocarpy, the development of fruit without fertilization, offers a solution, ensuring yield stability in adverse conditions and enhancing fruit quality. Parthenocarpic fruits not only secure agricultural production but also exhibit improved texture, appearance, and shelf life, making them desirable for food processing and other applications. Recent research unveils the molecular mechanisms behind parthenocarpy, implicating transcription factors (TFs), noncoding RNAs, and phytohormones such as auxin, gibberellin (GA), and cytokinin (CK). Based on a collection housed at LWG (Herbarium of CSIR–National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow, India), collected by Singh et al. on 25 June 2017 from Nagaland state of India, Pouzolzia friisii A.Gupta & V.Wagh sp. nov. (Urticaceae) is described and illustrated. The species resembles Pouzolzia sanguinea var. fulgens, P. niveotomentossa and P. australis in its serrated leaf margins and the indumentum on the abaxial leaf surface however, P. friisii is quite distinct in its grayish or pale yellowish indumentum, 4‐merous sessile male flowers and densely pubescent fruiting perianths without wings and ribs. Increased output per unit area is the main goal of cotton producers worldwide, and the determination of biomass for high-yield cotton production is most important index. Cotton plants were grown at five densities (2.25, 3.0, 3.75, 4.5, and 5.25 × 104 plants ha−1). The relationships between the lint yield, construction of vegetative and reproductive organs and the population biomass were investigated. The results indicated that the maximum lint yield could be obtained at an appropriate population biomass before peak flowering and that the maximum lint yield increased with the biomass after peak flowering. When a lint yield above 1875.0 kg ha−1 was achieved, the biomass was at 657.0, 2317.3 and 5398.0 kg ha−1 for peak squaring, early flowering and peak flowering, respectively, whereas it surpassed 11,977.4 kg ha−1 and 15,365.8 kg ha−1 for the biomass at peak boll-setting and during the boll open period, respectively. This study indicated that moderate biomass accumulation before peak flowering and higher population biomass accumulation after peak flowering could achieve high lint yield because of the construction of optimum plant height, maximum and suitable LAI, maximum fruiting branches and boll weight before peak flowering, the highest effective fruiting node number and the population boll number after peak flowering. Superoxide dismutases (SODs), as the first line of defense against reactive oxygen species (ROS), play an essential role in protecting plants from adverse elicitors during plant growth and development. However, little is known about the SOD gene family and their response to salinity stress and fruit development in cultivated strawberries (Fragaria × ananassa). In this study, 32 SOD genes consisting of 16 Cu/ZnSODs, 11 FeSODs, and 5 MnSOD were identified, which presented three well-resolved clades in the phylogenetic tree. Each clade had similar motifs, and exon–intron structures, which in turn supported the evolutionary classification. Cis-acting element analysis suggested that FaSOD genes might be involved in the plant response to abiotic and biotic stresses, hormones, and light. The analysis of previously published transcriptome data revealed that FaSOD genes are expressed variably under salt stress. Among these SODs, FaMSD5 was expressed at relatively high levels in strawberry root and leaf, and its transcript abundance significantly increased after salt treatment. Some transcription factors related to photomorphogenesis, hormone signaling pathways, and hyperosmotic salinity response were predicted to bind to the FaMSD5 promoter. These outcomes implied that FaMSD5 might play an important role in protection against salt stress. In addition, the comprehensive transcriptome analysis of FaSOD genes in strawberry fruit showed that almost all FaCSDs and FaMSDs were more highly expressed than FaFSDs at different developmental stages, and the expression patterns of FaCSD1, FaCSD2, FaCSD7, FaCSD8, and FaCSD10 suggested that they were likely to be involved in fruit development and ripening. Plant-specific APETALA2/Ethylene-Responsive Factor (AP2/ERF) transcription factors are involved in the regulation of genes associated with the growth and developmental processes of numerous plants. Although AP2/ERF proteins from other species have been intensively studied, no studies have been reported on the AP2/ERF family of Luffa cylindrica, an important vegetable of the cucurbit family, and one of the most popular vegetables in the world. In this study, 133 genes (315–6696 bp) encoding LcAP2/ERF proteins with complete AP2/ERF domains were identified according to the luffa P93075 genome. These LcAP2/ERF genes were subsequently classified and analyzed for their gene structures, chromosomal distribution locations, promoter cis-acting elements, conserved structural domains of encoded proteins, and responses to abiotic stresses. The LcAP2/ERF genes were identified and divided into five phylogenetic groups (AP2, DREBs, ERFs, RAV, and soloists). These genes were unevenly distributed across 13 chromosomes. An analysis of gene structures indicated the LcAP2/ERF genes contained 0–11 introns (average of 4.4). Additionally, 16 motifs were identified in the LcAP2/ERF proteins that were conserved across different phylogenetic groups. Moreover, 11 cis-acting elements associated with response to the environment were analyzed in a 2000 bp region upstream of the LcAP2/ERF gene promoters. A transcriptome analysis involving RNA-seq data revealed tissue-specific LcAP2/ERF expression profiles and the diversity in LcAP2/ERF expression. The effects of low-temperature stress on LcAP2/ERF expression were determined. Furthermore, fruit-development-related and low-temperature-induced expressional changes were verified by RT-qPCR analyses of 14 differentially expressed LcAP2/ERF genes in luffa. Lycium chinense is acknowledged for its substantial nutritional benefits, particularly attributed to the high levels of ascorbic acid (AsA) found in its fruits. The "Mengqi No.1" variety of L. chinense, which is cultivated in Qinghai, is known for its high yield and exceptional quality. We utilized the "Mengqi No.1" variety as experimental materials and combined metabolomic, transcriptomic, and physiological analyses to investigate the metabolites, genes, and enzymes related to AsA metabolism in L. chinense fruits. The results revealed nine differential metabolites associated with AsA metabolism in L. chinense fruits across three stages, including 1D-Myo-Inositol-1,4-Bisphosphate, D-Fructose, L-(+)-Arabinose, I-Inositol, L-Arabinitol, D-Galactose-1-P, lactose, α-D-Glucose, and D-Glucose-6-P. Notably, the contents of D-Glucose-6-P, D-Galactose-1-P, and D-Fructose were increased as the fruit developed. Additionally, fresh weight, longitudinal length, and radial width were increased, while the contents of AsA and DHA were decreased. GalDH and DHAR are critical enzymes for the accumulation of AsA and DHA, exhibiting positive correlation coefficient. Furthermore, PMM1, PMM5, GME2, and GME3 were identified as key regulatory genes in the L-Galactose pathway of AsA synthesis, influencing D-Galactose-1-P, D-Glucose-6-P, α-D-Glucose, and D-Fructose. DHAR1 and DHAR2 are considered key positive regulator genes of AsA and DHA in the AsA-GSH cycle. However, the majority of genes (nine) act as negative regulators of AsA and DHA. These findings provide a foundation for the understanding of the regulatory mechanism of AsA metabolism in L. chinense fruits and offer insights into the utilization of AsA from L. chinense. Flesh firmness is an important quality of pear fruits. Breeding cultivars with suitably low flesh firmness is one of the popular pear breeding goals. At present, SNP markers related to pear flesh firmness and genes affecting flesh firmness are still uncertain. In this study, a QTL analysis was performed, and the result showed that the position of 139.857 cM in lineage group 14 (LG14) had the highest average logarithm of odds (3.41) over two years. This newly discovered locus was identified as a flesh firmness-related QTL (qFirmness-LG14). The 'C/T' SNP was found in corresponding Marker1512129. The 'C' genotype is the high-firmness genotype, which is a dominant trait. The average firmness of fruits with genotype C is 21.4% higher than genotype without the C genotype. Transcriptome profiling was obtained between 'Zaoshengxinshui' and 'Qiushui' at five time points. Three candidate genes in the interval of qFirmness-LG14 might affect firmness. A gene of xyloglucan endotransglucosylase 1 (PpXTH1) was upregulated in 'Qiushui' at all five time points. Two transcription factors (PpHY5 and PpERF113) were upregulated in 'Zaoshengxinshui', which might be negative regulatory genes for high flesh firmness. The transcriptome results also isolated a large number of cell wall-related genes (e.g., Pectate lyase, Pectin acetylesterase, Pectin methylesterase, and 4-coumarate-CoA ligase) and transcription factors (e.g., ERF, WRKY). These genes are all potential upstream and downstream genes related to flesh firmness. 【Objective】The ARF4 gene of wax gourd (Benincasa hispida) was cloned and its expression patterns in different tissues were studied by bioinformatics analysis, thereby providing a reference for further exploration of the function of BhARF4 in the development of wax gourd fruits.【Method】With the cDNA of the fruits of B227 on the day of flowering as template, specific cloning primers were designed according to the CDS sequence of BhARF4 in the reference gene. At the fruiting stage, samples of B227 were taken from different tissues (root, stem, leaf, female and male flowers on the day of flowering, as well as fruits on different days after pollination (DAP) (0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 DAP). The expression patterns of BhARF4 in different tissues of fruits were analyzed by qRT-PCR.【Result】The BhARF4 gene contained 12 exons and 2 introns, with its CDS sequence length of 2 412 bp. Motif and conserved domain analysis revealed that the BhARF4 protein contained 9 motifs and conserved ARF, AUX_IAA, and B3 domains. The phylogenetic analysis revealed that the BhARF4 protein exhibited the highest degree of similarity to the ARF4 protein derived from cucumber and melon, while displaying the most distant relationship to those from Arabidopsis thaliana and Cucurbita moschata. The gene expression pattern analysis revealed that the expression of ARF4 was highest in melon, while lower in wax gourd and cucumber among the four Cucurbitaceae crops. In addition, it had specificity in the expression level of ARF4 in 11 wax gourd germplasms with different fruit sizes, and its expression level in B227 was significantly higher than that in other wax gourd varieties. The expression level of BhARF4 was highest in B227 fruits, particularly those on the day of pollination, followed by leaves, stems and roots. In contrast, the expression level of BhARF4 was lowest in male flower. Subcellular localization analysis showed that BhARF4 protein was located in the nucleus.【Conclusion】The gene structure of BhARF4, the conserved domain of the BhARF4 protein and other biological information characteristics, as well as the gene expression pattern were identified. Apples (Malus domestica) and plums (Prunus domestica) are important fruit crops belonging to the Rosaceae family. The edible parts of fruits and seeds contain phytochemicals; however, the seeds are rich in cyanogenic glycosides (CNGs), which release toxic hydrogen cyanide (HCN) upon the loss of plant cell integrity. This review aims to explore the quantitative and qualitative CNG profiles in apples and plums, focusing on their distribution in different parts of the fruit, changes during fruit development, and environmental impacts on their biosynthesis. It also discusses the intricate dynamics of CNGs in processed fruits and waste‐derived products and the effects of the processing methods on CNG content. There is considerable variation in the CNG content of fruit crops, as well as in its distribution in fruit parts other than seeds and shifts during fruit maturation. Although several studies have attempted to explain this variability by the influence of cultivars and exogenous factors, there is insufficient evidence to draw reliable conclusions. Furthermore, due to the lack of studies, the dynamics of CNGs during the storage of fresh or preserved fruit remains unaddressed. In the context of reusing plum stones from waste to produce distillates, it is recommended to monitor the HCN content in the products during storage, as it can increase significantly over time. Processing methods influence CNG levels, with strategies like seed separation, soaking, and microwave heating showing promise in reducing cyanide (CN−) presence. 【Objective】ABFs（ABRE binding factors）/AREB（ABA responsive element binding）transcription factors, which not only participate in the plant stress response, but also affect the development of plants and fruits. Understanding its role in jujube fruit development provides a basis for further study of jujube ABF gene function.【Method】We conducted genome-wide identification of jujube ABF gene and analyzed the physicochemical analysis, subcellular localization, gene structure, motifs, phylogenetic relationships, promoter cis-acting elements and expression patterns.【Result】Five ABF genes were found in the jujube genome and located on five different pseudochromosomes. The length of the coding amino acid sequence of ZjABF was 321 to 474 aa, the isoelectric point was 7.75 to 9.85, the hydrophilic coefficient was between -0.807 and -0.592, and all five members were hydrophilic proteins. The instability coefficient ranged from 35.62 to 61.51. Gene structure and motif analysis showed that all ABF family members had UTR, containing 3 to 5 exons and 6 to 7 motifs. Phylogenetic trees grouped the ABF family into three large classes. Promoter cis-acting element analysis showed that jujube ABF gene family promoters had multiple cis-acting elements related to response hormones and abiotic stress. By analyzing the transcriptome data at different stages of fruit development, all ZjABFs. except ZjABF4 were differently expressed, indicating that the ABF family played a regulatory role in fruit development. 【Objective】To investigate the function of tomato SlYABBY2b and elucidate the mechanism of fruit size regulation, thus laying the foundation for enhancing the gene networks involved in fruit development and uncovering valuable tomato（Solanum lycopersicum L.）gene resources in China.【Method】Using CRISPR/Cas9 technology, yabby2b mutant lines were generated by editing the SlYABBY2b gene in tomato ‘Ailsa Craig’. The phenotypic changes of the yabby2b mutants were analyzed, followed by quantification of fruit cell numbers through paraffin sectioning. Expression changes of candidate genes in the yabby2b mutants were assessed using RT-qPCR, along with the analysis of promoter regulatory elements of these genes.【Result】Chimeric or biallelic mutants were identified in the T0 generation, while three homozygous mutants were isolated in the T1 generation, devoid of transgenic elements. Phenotypic observations revealed that yabby2b mutant plants demonstrated the reduced height and smaller fruits compared to the wild type. Further investigation into fruit development indicated that the ovary of yabby2b mutants was smaller with decreased ovary cell numbers during early fruit development. Analysis of candidate gene expressions revealed an upregulation of SlFW2.2, a cell division suppressor, in response to the SlYABBY2b mutation, along with the presence of regulatory elements of YABBY transcription factors on the SlFW2.2 promoter.【Conclusion】These findings suggest that SlYABBY2b may play a role in regulating plant height and fruit size in tomatoes by modulating SlFW2.2 gene expression, thereby influencing cell division in early fruit development and ultimately determining fruit size. WRKY transcription factors play key roles in plant resistance to various stresses, but their roles in fruit ripening remain largely unknown. Here, we report a WRKY gene PpWRKY14 involved in the regulation of fruit ripening in peach. The expression of PpWRKY14 showed an increasing trend throughout fruit development. PpWRKY14 was a target gene of PpNAC1, a master regulator of peach fruit ripening. PpWRKY14 could directly bind to the promoters of PpACS1 and PpACO1 to induce their expression, and this induction was greatly enhanced when PpWRKY14 formed a dimer with PpNAC1. However, the transcription of PpNAC1 could be directly suppressed by two EIN3/EIL1 genes, PpEIL2 and PpEIL3. The PpEIL2/3 genes were highly expressed at the early stages of fruit development, but their expression was programmed to decrease significantly during the ripening stage, thus derepressing the expression of PpNAC1. These results suggested a PpEIL2/3–PpNAC1–PpWRKY14 module that regulates fruit ripening by modulating ethylene production in peach. Summary: Amphicarpy is an unusual trait where two fruit types develop on the same plant: one above and the other belowground. This trait is not found in conventional model species. Therefore, its development and molecular genetics remain under‐studied. Here, we establish the allooctoploid Cardamine chenopodiifolia as an emerging experimental system to study amphicarpy.We characterized C. chenopodiifolia development, focusing on differences in morphology and cell wall histochemistry between above‐ and belowground fruit. We generated a reference transcriptome with PacBio full‐length transcript sequencing and analysed differential gene expression between above‐ and belowground fruit valves.Cardamine chenopodiifolia has two contrasting modes of seed dispersal. The main shoot fails to bolt and initiates floral primordia that grow underground where they self‐pollinate and set seed. By contrast, axillary shoots bolt and develop exploding seed pods aboveground. Morphological differences between aerial explosive fruit and subterranean nonexplosive fruit were reflected in a large number of differentially regulated genes involved in photosynthesis, secondary cell wall formation and defence responses.Tools established in C. chenopodiifolia, such as a reference transcriptome, draft genome assembly and stable plant transformation, pave the way to study amphicarpy and trait evolution via allopolyploidy. Isatis indigotica Fort. is a famous medicinal plant that is also used as a natural dye and functional vegetable. The characteristics of the I. indigotica fruit during development are largely unknown, information that is essential for the exploitation and seedlings cultivation of I. indigotica. In this study, the biochemical, metabolite characteristics and gene expression profiling of I. indigotica at four developmental stages were investigated. A total of 428 metabolites were detected and categorized into 17 categories. High contents of anthocyanins, especially cyanidin 3‐glucoside, might contribute to the purple colouration of I. indigotica fruits. Moreover, dozens of flavonoid components, including taxifolin, quercetin, astragalin and isovitexin 2″‐O‐beta‐D‐glucoside, and several other active components were also up‐regulated in mature fruits. The abundance of antioxidants might endow a significantly stronger antioxidant activity of mature I. indigotica fruits compared to many other reported species. Enrichment analyses revealed that flavonoid and anthocyanin biosynthesis genes were mostly enriched in up‐regulated gene sets during fruit development. The up‐regulated structural genes, including IiCHS, IiCHI, IiF3H, IiDFR, IiANS, IiFLS, IiUGT, and transcription factors such as IiMYBs, IibHLHs and IiNACs were identified as candidate regulators of flavonoid and anthocyanin biosynthetic pathway. Furthermore, biosynthesis of amino acids was enriched in all pairwise comparisons of metabolites in fruits at four developmental stages. The differential accumulation of amino acids might result from the differentially expressed genes involved in amino acid biosynthesis. Taken together, these findings provide a comprehensive understanding of metabolite profiling and gene expression patterns in I. indigotica fruit during maturity, which is useful for pharmaceutical extractions and seedling cultivation of I. indigotica. Description of aims and systems used: Olive (Olea europea L.) is one of the most economically important tree crops worldwide, especially for the countries in the Mediterranean basin. Given the economic and nutritional importance of the crop for olive oil and drupe production, we generated transcriptional atlases for the Greek olive cultivars "Chondrolia Chalkidikis" and "Koroneiki" which have contrasting characteristics in terms of fruit development, oil production properties, and use. Our analysis involved 14 different organs, tissue types, and developmental stages, including young and mature leaves, young and mature shoots, open and closed flowers, young and mature fruits (epicarp plus mesocarp), young and mature endocarps, stalks, as well as roots. The developed gene expression atlases and the associated resources offer a comprehensive insight into comparative gene expression patterns across several organs and tissue types between significant olive tree cultivars. The comparative analyses presented in this work between the "Koroneiki" cultivar, which performs better in olive oil production, and the "Chondrolia Chalkidikis," which grows larger fruits, will be essential for understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying olive oil production and fruit shape and size development. The developed resource is also expected to support functional genomics and molecular breeding efforts to enhance crop quality and productivity in olive trees. Outline of data resources generated: The transcriptome data were generated using paired‐end Illumina Next‐Generation Sequencing technologies. The sequencing yielded approximately 13 million reads per sample for "Chondrolia Chalkidikis" and around 24 million reads per sample for "Koroneiki." The transcriptomes were comparatively analyzed to reveal tissue‐specific and differentially expressed genes and co‐expression gene modules within and between cultivars. Summary of key results: The comparative analysis unveiled tissue‐specific and differentially expressed genes within and between cultivars. Hierarchical gene clustering revealed intra‐ and inter‐cultivar expression patterns, particularly for the endocarp and fruit tissues relevant to olive oil production and fruit development. Additionally, genes associated with oil production and fruit size/shape development, including those in fatty acid metabolism and developmental regulation, were identified. Broader utility of the resource: To facilitate accessibility, the GrOlivedb (www.GrOlivedb.com) database was developed, housing the comprehensive transcriptomic data for all of the analyzed organs and tissue types per cultivar. Background: Grapes are highly valued for their nutritional and economic benefits, and have been widely studied for their biological attributes such as fruit development, quality formation, and stress resistance. One significant threat to grape quality is gray mold, caused by Botrytis cinerea, which can infect the flowers, fruits, leaves, and stems. The quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), known for its high sensitivity and quantitative accuracy, is an essential tool for analyzing gene expression related to the pathogenesis of gray mold, thereby providing deeper insights into the disease. Result: In this study, we aim to identify stable internal reference genes crucial for accurate gene expression analysis via qRT-PCR. Utilizing transcriptome data from grapes under various disease stresses, we identified twelve candidate reference genes with consistently high expression levels. The stability of these genes was assessed through delta-CT, geNorm, NormFinder, BestKeeper, and RefFinder analyses after establishing the cycling thresholds (Ct) in different grape varieties treated with Botrytis cinerea. Conclusions: Our findings reveal that VIT-17s0000g02750 and VIT-06s0004g04280 exhibit stable expression and are suitable as new reference genes. The olive fruit is a drupe whose development and ripening takes several months from flowering to full maturation. During this period, several biochemical and physiological changes occur that affect the skin color, texture, composition, and size of the mesocarp. The final result is a fruit rich in fatty acids, phenolic compounds, tocopherols, pigments, sterols, terpenoids, and other compounds of nutritional interest. In this work, a transcriptomic analysis was performed using flowers (T0) and mesocarp tissue at seven different stages during olive fruit development and ripening (T1–T7) of the 'Picual' cultivar. A total of 1755 genes overexpressed at any time with respect to the flowering stage were further analyzed. These genes were grouped into eight clusters based on their expression profile. The gene enrichment analysis revealed the most relevant biological process of every cluster. Highlighting the important role of hormones at very early stages of fruit development (T1, Cluster 1), whereas genes involved in fatty acid biosynthesis were relevant throughout the fruit developmental process. Hence, genes coding for different fatty acid desaturase (SAD, FAD2, FAD3, FAD4, FAD5, FAD6, and FAD7) enzymes received special attention. In particular, 26 genes coding for different fatty acid desaturase enzymes were identified in the 'Picual' genome, contributing to the improvement of the genome annotation. Pomelo is an important tropical fruit with a high nutrient content and economic value in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD). The Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS) helps determine the leaf nutrient status of various plants worldwide. However, the DRIS-based nutritional balance in pomelo leaves remains to be established. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to (i) construct the DRIS norms and indices for nutrients, including macronutrients (N, P, K, Ca, and Mg) and trace elements (Cu, Fe, Zn, and Mn) in pomelo leaves, and (ii) establish nutrient sufficiency value ranges for sustainable pomelo cultivation in the VMD. We collected 270 leaf samples at three stages of pomelo growth, i.e., flowering, fruit development, and postharvest, and calculated DRIS indices for various nutrients. The DRIS indices established for various nutrients in pomelo leaves were accurate and reliable, as indicated by the high coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.43–0.93, p < 0.05) between nutrient concentrations and their DRIS indices. We observed that pomelo leaves were deficient in N (IN = −6.82), P (IP = −24.0), and Fe (IFe = −0.40) at the flowering stage and most deficient in P (IP = −15.6), K (IK = −11.7), Fe (IFe = −0.50), and Mn (IMn = −2.31) at the fruit development stage. However, only N (IN = −2.64) and P (IP = −13.4) shortages were observed at the postharvest stage. Thus, in this study, we evaluated nutrient value ranges (deficient, balanced, and excess) in pomelo leaves at their different growth stages and established DRIS indices for various nutrients. Sugar is extremely important for the growth and development of fruits, and it is also vital for the improvement of fruit quality. In addition, its content, species, and proportion determine the sweetness and flavor of fruits, which in turn affect the acceptance of fruits by consumers. Sugar is not only the carbon source and energy source of plants, but also acts as the signal molecule involved in the regulation of embryo formation, seed germination, fruit vegetative growth and reproductive growth during fruit growth. The soluble sugars in fruit are mainly sucrose, fructose, glucose and sorbitol, while the insoluble sugar is mainly starch. The changes of sugar synthesis, transport, metabolism and content during fruit development and ripening are affected by enzymes, genes, transcription factors, transporters, phytohormones and environmental conditions. Among them, phytohormones that regulate sugar metabolism during fruit development and ripening mainly include abscisic acid (ABA), auxin, ethylene (ETH), gibberellins (GA), brassinosteroids (BR), salicylic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA) and melatonin (MT), etc. In addition, fruit color is one of the key characteristics of fruit quality, which is crucial to the nutritional and commercial value of fruits, and is mainly affected by anthocyanin and carotenoid accumulation or chlorophyll degradation. Meanwhile, there is a complex relationship between sugar metabolism and the synthesis of anthocyanins and carotenoids. In this study, it reviews the role of sugar metabolism and its signal transduction mechanism during fruit development and ripening, and introduces the relationship between sugar signal transduction mechanism and the regulation of hormones and pigments, to provide important theoretical basis for fruit quality change and postharvest storage. Using plant biostimulants to enhance crop productivity and improve fruit quality is an effective, environmentally friendly approach. This research aimed to assess the effects of combining humic acid (HA) with salicylic acid (SA) on the growth metrics, yield, and fruit quality attributes of commercial tomato cultivar BARI Tomato 16. The current research was conducted with humic acid (H0: 0 mgL-1, H1: 30 mgL-1, H2: 60 mgL-1, H3: 90 mgL-1) and salicylic acid (S0: 0 mgL-1, S1: 40 mgL-1, S2: 80 mgL-1, S3: 120 mgL-1) were applied three times at 30, 70, & 90 days after transplanting. Their combined application increased the early flowering and fruiting of tomatoes by 17% and 12%, flower and fruit number by 60% and 40%, and total yield per hectare by 88% respectively to control. Additionally, the brix content, lycopene content, sodium content and vitamin C content resulted in a 10%, 9%, 48% and 48% increase respectively from the control groups. Based on this investigation, it is found that the simultaneous use of HA and SA enhanced production, fruit development, and nutritional content. Furthermore, the tomato plants subjected to a combination of humic and salicylic acids (90 mgL-1 HA with 80 mgL-1 SA) exhibited better effects than the other treatment groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For precision agriculture, agricultural development planning, and regional food security, accurate crop mapping is essential. The GF-6 satellite offers novel approaches for crop identification. As Jinzhou, Hebei province, China, comprises a mix of grain and fruit trees, this research has selected the area for a case study. First, spectral, index, and texture features are combined in various classification feature schemes. Second, the random forest algorithm is employed to ascertain the significance of these features. Optimal features are then chosen to accurately identify winter wheat, summer maize, and pear orchards. Concurrently, land cover for wheat and maize seasons is mapped. The results demonstrate that: (1) multisource features considerably enhanced the accuracy of crop classification based on GF-6 WFV data. Among these, index features have the greatest contribution, followed by spectral features, while the contribution of texture features, is almost negligible. (2) The classification effect utilizing random forest feature optimization is superior, with an overall accuracy of 94% and a kappa coefficient of 0.91. The extracted land area for each scheme exhibits an accuracy of over 70% when compared to the statistical area. (3) The critical time phases for extracting winter wheat, summer maize, and pear orchards are identified as, in sequence, the leaf-out and jointing stage, the tasselling stage, the leaf-fall stage, fruit development, and the first flowering/full flowering stages. The BARLEY B-RECOMBINANT/BASIC PENTACYSTEINE (BBR/BPC) protein family is one of the smallest transcription factors that binds with GAGA motifs, and it is reported to be involved in growth and development in plants. Even though, the BPC protein was identified earlier its characterization has only been reported in a few plant species. Moreover, no comprehensive genome-wide analysis in tomato has been reported until now. In this study, we identified six BPC genes in the tomato genome and classified them into four groups based on phylogenetic analysis. All the genes had a GAGA domain along with four additional domains found in rice, tomato, and Arabidopsis. Only one segmental duplication gene pair was identified among the tomato genes. In addition, collinearity analysis revealed three duplication pairs between tomato and Arabidopsis, while no duplications were observed between tomato and rice, or rice and Arabidopsis. Environmental stress and hormone-related cis-elements, miRNA, and phosphorylation sites were also identified. Organ-specific expression studies showed that the genes SlBPC2 and SlBPC6 were upregulated in B5 fruit tissues. Additionally, three genes SlBPC1, SlBPC2 and SlBPC6 were upregulated in response to salt, heat, cold, and ABA treatment. The predicted 3D proteins and GO ontology of BPC genes revealed their putative function and their interaction with ligand-binding sites. Subcellular localization fused with GFP protein to the nucleus and the co-expression of SlBPC genes with various defense-related genes, and transcription factor suggest their role in various biological processes. Our findings provide fundamental information about the gene structure and its function which may be helpful for further detailed studies on tomato fruit development, fruit ripening, and abiotic stress tolerance. Since the discovery of brassinolide in the pollen of rapeseed, brassinosteroids (BRs) have consistently been associated with reproductive traits. However, compared to what is known for how BRs shape vegetative development, the understanding of how these hormones regulate reproductive traits is comparatively still lacking. Nevertheless, there is now considerable evidence that BRs regulate almost all aspects of reproduction, from ovule and pollen formation to seed and fruit development. Here, we review the current body of knowledge on how BRs regulate reproductive processes in plants and what is known about how these pathways are transduced at the molecular level. We also discuss how the manipulation of BR biosynthesis and signaling can be a promising avenue for improving crop traits that rely on efficient reproduction. Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) is a model plant for studying non-climacteric fruit ripening regulated by abscisic acid (ABA); however, the signaling of ABA in the regulation of fruit coloration is not fully understood. In this study, we identified the transcription factor BASIC HELIX-LOOP-HELIX 3 (bHLH3) as being key to fruit coloration via yeast two-hybrid library screening using the bait SUCROSE NONFERMENTING 1 (SNF1)-RELATED PROTEIN KINASE 2 (SnRK2.6), which is a core ABA signaling component that negatively regulates ripening. The interaction was also confirmed by firefly luciferase complementation assays and pull-down assays. RT-qPCR and western blot analysis confirmed that bHLH3 is expressed ubiquitously in strawberry tissues, and it is expressed stably during fruit development. Overexpression and RNAi of both bHLH3 and SnRK2.6 demonstrated that bHLH3 and SnRK2.6 promote and inhibit strawberry fruit coloration, respectively. Using EMSAs, we showed that bHLH3 promotes the expression of UDP-GLUCOSE: FLAVONOL-O-GLUCOSYLTRANSFERASE (UFGT), a key gene for anthocyanin biosynthesis, by directly binding to its promoter. We determined that SnRK2.6 can phosphorylate bHLH3 and that this inhibits its binding to the UFGT promoter, consequently suppressing expression. Altogether, we propose that increased ABA content during strawberry fruit ripening leads to decreased expression of SnRK2.6 , which in turn releases the phosphorylation of bHLH3 and thereby enhances UFGT expression, ultimately promoting the coloration of the fruit.
